Whether you want to buy a home or refinance your current one, Rocket, Rocket can. It is the JR Sport Brief show. I'm being joined by super producer and host, Dave Shepherd. You've been hanging out for three hours. What have we talked about? Sports, obviously. This is what we're here for, right?

This is what you're here for. We talked about the Dallas Cowboys. We talked about Aaron Donald swinging helmets. We've talked about video games. Yeah, one of our callers was 10 and I said, hey, you know what a game boy is? He's like, no, I don't know what that is.

Of course he doesn't. Why would a 10 year old know what a game boy is? And then we had a 15 year old call. He's like, I play game boys from my mom. I mean, I had so many other questions, but I wanted to be respectful. As we continue on with this show, as I'm here for another hour before I got to shut up, we're going to talk about the Lakers and Patrick Beverly going to that squad. Hilarious.

Chet Holmgrum we know is out for the season, officially done a Liz Frank injury. And then I'm going to get some more of your calls. So if you're on the line and you can hold on and damn it, do it. I will get you on the air. And we're just going to roll on. Listen, if you want to give me a holler, the number is eight five five two one two four CBS.

That's eight five five two one two four CBS. You can also find me. I am at JR sport brief. That is on Instagram. That is on Twitter. That is on Facebook.

I opened up my Instagram a couple hours ago when I'm like, what is this? And I go, Oh, Tracy McGrady shared an interview that we did a couple of months ago. Well, shout outs to Tracy McGrady, a good guy. By the way, you missed a minute of the show of which we had Tracy McGrady on a couple of months ago.

Simple hit rewind on the free Odyssey app. The show is also available via podcast. Just search JR sport brief, wherever you listen and a big shout outs to everybody all over North America. I don't care where you at. I love America.

I do. I was just in Detroit. I'm just everywhere. Like I'm looking at the calendar for the rest of the year. I'm like, Oh, can't wait to go back to Tallahassee. Can't wait to go back to Texas.

I'm, I'm being California in a little while. I mean, I love it. And Chef, for all these places I go, I don't, I haven't had a beer with nobody yet. And you owe about a hundred. And you owe about a hundred. Listen, I may drink a hundred.

Well that, no, that's, that'll be alcohol poisoning. Right. It'll take me some time, but I could get there. I love it.

I'll get there. Yeah. Game boys, game boys and beers. I should start a party promotion. Would you want to participate? Absolutely. Why wouldn't I? If I do like game boys and beer, you think we could do that across the country?

A hundred percent. If you had like a game boy party on a particular Friday night, maybe like before the Superbowl and we did it in like the NYC palatial, like something of that nature, I would be, I think our fans would be so down for that. Well, let's, we got to do like game boys and beer and then we do the show. And yeah, just like one week we go to Houston and next week we go to, uh, go to Cleveland and other weeks, Chicago, San Diego, Milwaukee, Baltimore, and Portland.

It's like, hey, come to hang out with JR. Like we got game boys, we got beer, and then we could do the show. I think I may look into that shot. Great idea.

I think I might. Uh, and there's no swing of any kind, right? No, I'm not swinging no helmets. No, no.

That's the kind of swing and I was referring to. Not, not, not, not the others that some people might think of this time. Well, it did. Well, it depends after the show. I mean, who knows? But anyway, 855-212-4CBS. Let's get out of that conversation quickly. Let's go pick up the phones and then let's get a couple of calls in and then I got to talk about these Lakers. Daniel's calling from Corpus Christi, Texas. What's up, Daniel? What's up, my man? Really enjoy the show, brother. Thank you.

Okay. So, uh, previous caller kind of stole my thunder, man. I was, uh, I was on the Aaron Donald thing.

You know, I know we talked about it. It's a career murder saying, you know, you file assault charges because I mean, somebody can go and file an assault charge. That's just saying it was, it was, uh, uh, uh, undrafted rookie that's on the team. And, and he, he, he, he had a, uh, probably not being cut. He filed that assault charge. Now does that fall on the NFL's conduct?

Uh, um, uh, no, no, no. When, when under practice and all that would fall under the team. And if you're Aaron Donald, I mean, who the hell is going to find or suspend him?

Nobody. Yeah. I mean, it's just like, they say like, not everybody's untouchable, but I mean, we know that's not true, but you know, I, I definitely think something should be done internally through the team, you know, find a guy and, and, you know, I, I don't think they'll suspend them. I mean, but I mean, let's just say he does it again on the national television, you know?

Well, there's a, there's a, there's a massive difference. We saw what took place with miles Gary. He was suspended indefinitely. Uh, when you're Aaron Donald and you're swinging your helmet at a guy in practice, it's unlikely that you're going to be suspended. I'm sure he's gotten some type of talking to or a nod and a wink and just chill out, relax, but man, ain't not going to happen. I'd be shocked if they docked him out of his wallet.

Like ain't happening. Jim is calling from Wisconsin. You're on CBS sports radio, the JR sport reef show. Yeah. Hello? Yes, I'm here. I unplugged my phone.

I had to plug it. Okay, great. Go ahead. I was just wondering if you'd ever be interested in doing a top six of the worst actual on field ice court or incidents, uh, a top six ass whoopings in sports.

Probably not. No, just accidents. Well, well accidents, accidents like what? Getting, uh, getting cut on the field. I mean, what's that? Like that's, that's pretty morbid.

Remember what I do? Paul, Paul George breaks his leg. A Ronnie lot chops off his finger. Like, well, I mean, that's kind of tough, man.

You know, I'm, I'm talking about like stuff where who was it from Vancouver cannot, was it Keith to Chuck that got his neck slid open? Yes. Yeah. That's, that's pretty morbid, which is why I wouldn't stand for or not stand, sit or stand and talk about it for an hour. No, I wouldn't do that.

No, you don't need to talk about it for an hour, but well that if I'm doing a top six, it would probably be a, a one hour segment. Jim, you like, you like horror movies, Jim. Are you, are you like gonna hunt me down at night?

Oh, I love Halloween. Oh, I can tell. Hey, let's get, let's get this guy's numbers. So if I go missing, we know what happened. Okay. It's a deal.

It's already locked and saved in the vault. Hey, Jim, don't, don't come looking for me in Georgia. All right.

You know, and I'm like, when, uh, Matt Lawrence Taylor hit Joe Theismann's leg. Okay, Jim. Hey, Jim. Oh my God. Yes. I know. Oh my God.

Oh, what is he going to do? Tell me about legs now. Hey JR, do you remember when Joe, when, when, when Lauren, yes, I know. Yeah. I remember when he broke and snapped his leg.

I do. I mean, damn, what was he going to do? Take us through the entire list of, uh, of tragedies and sports. If I, if I heard of Aaron Hernandez, I was running.

Hey JR, why don't we do a top six list of, uh, of accidents and sports? Oh yeah. Well, no, no, no, no, no. Why? Yeah.

Number one, this guy had his skull broken. Like, come on, man. Man. Mike is calling from Illinois. Go ahead, Mike. How you doing JR?

Thanks for taking my call. Uh, back when I'm 67 years old, back when I was 12 years old, 13, I made a mistake and dropped an F bomb on the football field. I got touched. I got suspended for two games. My dad was so disappointed in me.

It really took me a really long time to get back with my dad. Now this McDonald guy here swinging a helmet and doing all I just, I, I cannot fathom that. What is his people going to think about him? His parents and you'll, I understand money makes it all, but come on, come on. It was always a game to me. Yeah, well, it's, it's, it is, it is a game. I'm pretty sure he's hearing nothing. May I'm sure that people close them to like, Hey, just relax. And what, what more can you say after that?

Just say, Hey, just, just, just keep it calm next time. Mario calling from Atlanta. You're on the JR sport reef show. Hey, what's up JR. Thank you for taking my call, man. Hey, if you ever have that game bowl party, man, I want to be invited, man.

Well, if I do the game boy party here in Atlanta, where would you want me to do it? Blue flame, man. You want me to do a game? Wait a minute. What'd you know about the blue?

What'd you know about blue? I've been there for the last 20 years. If I do a game boy and beer party at blue flame lounge, where are you going to put your hands? Where do you think I'm going to put my hand? I don't know. You're going to have options and choices. So, I mean, what are we doing? You have a second choice. We can do it at club trapeze off of Fulton industrial Boulevard.

You ever heard of that place? Listen, you, you, I'm not answering your, your questions on the air. Okay. What else you got to say? Hey, you got the best voice at broadcast.

I just want to get that in. Anyhow, the Aaron Donald thing. I love it, man. I mean, heck that's football. It's entertainment, man.

Breads and circuses, man. I mean, I don't want to see nobody die out there, but hey, I don't mind seeing some blood. Let it go on, man.

Well, if you want, well, you watch, you watch, you know, you watch UFC, you watch UFC. Oh yeah. All that. I mean, in high school, we played on a gravel field in Chicago, man. I mean, it was rough.

We didn't play on those simple grand fields like they got in Atlanta and Georgia. Should we play on gravel, man? You ever got hit in the head with a helmet, Mario?

I got hit in the head with a baseball bat a few times. It sounds like it. Yeah. Hey man, he, well, why is he calling? He's calling me about strip clubs in Atlanta. Listen, we have more here in Atlanta than strip clubs, please.

Well, hey, let's do the game boy party at a strip club. No. And listen, I know this to be fact.

This is an entire, this is a, this is a, this is a, this is a fact. Shout outs to everybody going to and from blue flame right now. Cause somebody listening. I know they are. I ain't going 8 5 5 2 1 2 4 CBS, or not Dawn thinking about blue flame. Hi, Dawn. Dan is calling from Connecticut. You're on CBS sports radio. What's up, Jr. Big fan. What's going on, man? What's going on, man? What's going on?

What's up, Jr. Big fan. Quick question. Did Aaron Donald actually connect with anybody when he was swinging his helmet?

As far as it was in the scrum, I believe he connected with somebody, but not no clean shot to a dome. No. All right.

Nothing clean. One more question. Has he ever had a history of doing something like that before? As far as I know, he hasn't. No, not swinging a helmet, but we have seen Aaron Donald kind of losing on the field every now and then.

Yes. All right. Well, I'm just going to say he's not going to get in any trouble at all because one, it was practice. Two, you said he didn't really physically hurt anybody a little bit. And then just one other quick point I wanted to make. Mason Rudolph took that shot to the head pretty good.

And to me, it looked like Miles Guy, you know, swung it pretty hard. So I'm going to get off the phone. Have a great night. Well, thank you, Dan.

Well, plenty of people who get hit all the time and it only takes an inch or centimeter between a serious injury and just getting dinged. Mike calling from Cleveland. Go ahead. Hey, what's up, man? I love your show.

Thank you. I would, I look training camp things happen. And I remember it was a couple of years ago, well, some years ago, the Washington commanders, I think they had a fight where two teammates got into a fight and one guy injured another guy's eye or something crazy. Stuff like this happens during training camp, man.

I played sports my whole life. Training camp is terrible. Two days are terrible. It just is what it is. It's the difference between doing and the pun. And I mean, the crime has to meet the punishment too. You know what I'm saying? The punishment has to be crying, bro. Like what miles Garrett, who I love, I'm a Browns fan, but miles Garrett did on that was on national TV, 10 games in the Browns are trying to make a late push to try to try to get a playoff spot. And he messed up and he messed up on the biggest stage on prime time television. Everybody knew the hammer was going to get dropped.

It's going to get dropped. Training camp scrum happened all the time. Well, this was not just a training. This wasn't a matter of being just a training camp scrum.

It is very few and far in between that someone takes not just a helmet, but two helmets and goes, you know what, on the opposition, that doesn't happen all the time. Do guys push and shove and fight? Yes. Do you have fights amongst teammates?

Yes. That happens all the time to have someone go out there. And the reason why he was able to do it is he's the best player on the team. And so it's not an all the time thing. And I agree with you, of course, on a higher level with more exposure, there's going to be an issue. But this is training camp. Yeah, so the NFL has no jurisdiction over it. That doesn't mean it's right, man. Come on.

Not at all. It's the JR Sportbree show here with you on CBS Sports Radio. We're going to take a break. And when we come back, we're going to talk about the other team in Los Angeles, the ones that wear the purple and gold because they just brought on a guy that everybody hates. And his one of his teammates, he hates his guts. And I'm sure they'll love each other.

I'm talking about Patrick Beverley and Russell Westbrook. It's the JR Sportbree show, CBS Sports Radio. You're listening to the JR Sportbree on CBS Sports Radio.

You're listening to the JR Sportbree on CBS Sports Radio. I love your show. Love listening to you on a regular basis.

Thanks for taking my call, man. I really like your show, dog. It's a great show that we listen to up here whenever we get the chance. Man, let me say, I love your show, man. I live in Brookhaven, Georgia, right? And I'm a truck driver. You make my night every night that you on the air. I want to say that.

Call in now at 855-212-4CBS. Yeah, every single weeknight. I get started 10 p.m. Eastern time, 7 p.m. Pacific.

And thank you so much to everybody who listens. You could love the show. You could love me. You could hate my guts.

I think there are very few people, but there are few. I love the fact that you hate my guts. I love it.

I sleep good at night regardless. Just coming out here having fun. That's it. Hanging out with super producer Dave Shepherd. We're tag team. Whoop, there it is. We have to figure it. Shep, what's the name of the tag team?

What is it called? I'm trying to think of the best tag teams ever. I'm not a wrestling guy, and I'm not going to make it up that I am.

No, but you don't need to be. But if you're just a tag, what's a good tag team? I mean, who are they? Bubba Ray and Dave Van or Devon Dudley? Something like that? Wasn't there that tag team once? The Dudley Boy? Do you understand that I know one of them is from New York.

Gotcha. You might catch an ass-whooping if we use that name. We can't do that. He's from Long Island. Bubba Ray?

Bubba Ray's from Long Island. He would whoop our ass. We can't do that.

Fair enough. But wait, he's no spring chicken now though. That man is maybe I don't know, 47 years old? Oh, he's not whooping my ass. Oh, he would whoop your ass. He's 47 years old? He ain't whooping my ass there.

He might be 47, and I'd say he's maybe, I don't know, 6'1 to 6'4, maybe 300 pounds, give or take. He'd whoop both of our asses. He may be stronger, can lift more, can do all that good stuff, but he's not whooping my ass.

Good stuff. But he is not quick enough to catch me in a fight scene. He wouldn't be able to whoop my ass.

So here we go. I'm not trying to be silly, but Bubba Ray cannot, he's 47 years old. I'm not going to get my ass whoop my ass. He's 51 years old.

Oh, come on, come on, man. JR, he's not whooping my ass. I think Bubba Ray is in excellent shape. At 51? He's going to catch a 35-year-old that's running marathons? By the way, Bubba Ray does, I guess, fight.

I listen to him from time to time. Aside from B-Hop, because I don't think Foreman was 50. Oh, Bernard Hopkins. I don't think Foreman was, I want to say 47, 48.

Was there any legitimate individual that could legit fight on a top-notch level at the age of 50 or over in the confines of a 15-by-20-foot ring or octagon for those in the MMA? Wait a minute. Whoa, whoa, whoa. Let's slow down here.

Are you changing the parameters? If we put you and Bubba Ray in a wrestling ring or a boxing ring or an octagon, you're saying that you would whoop Bubba Ray's ass? No, I'm saying he would kick my ass. But if Bubba Ray ever saw me, if I was ever within his proximity, he would not stand a chance in hell of getting his paws on me. That's the point. Oh, okay. All right. Well, let's ask him.

You got to catch me first. Bubba Ray broadcasts on Sirius XM. Does a great job. Doesn't he do a show with Dave McGregor, Busted Open, right?

Yeah, Busted Open Radio. Yeah, Fight Nation. They do a good job. And that show has done very well for themselves. I have actually seen them in Times Square.

Not them themselves, but on billboards. Well, let's do this. Let's send this audio to Bubba Ray. No, why not?

Why not? Do you want to reach out to Bubba Ray or do you want me to do it? You can reach out. I can reach out.

It don't matter. He's great on the air. Dave's great on the air.

They do a great job at Fight Nation. A 51-year-old is not catching me in any vicinity unless it is a closed circuit. I like you, Dave. We don't need Bubba Ray whooping your ass. Okay. He's got to catch me first. Let's make some calls and let's talk to Bubba Ray about this, okay?

That works for me. Okay. I mean, I don't want to put him in a compromised position. He's 51 years old.

Doesn't he have to look after his own wellbeing and health in this situation? We saw what happened with Ric Flair and that was staged and then some. Hold on a second. Have you ever seen Bubba Ray put an elderly woman through a table off of a stage? By the way, in all seriousness, JR. This is serious, by the way. No, I understand. The Rock, he's maybe the highest paid commercial actor in the world.

There's a direction I'm going here with this. And he may be the greatest star in the history of wrestling. The Rock couldn't even make a practice squad in the NFL. So let's not act like these guys are world-class athletes, second to none, one of one. They're pretty good athletes, but they're not all world. They're not invincible is my point.

Whoa. They're not. It's not about being invincible.

Okay. It's about being tough and being able to take an ass whooping and hand one out. These wrestlers are some of the toughest, you know, what's on earth, man. These guys, they are not, they ain't no softies, man.

I'd be pretty good if I had state-of-the-art choreographers as well. I'm just saying. Yo, if Bubba Ray going to put the pause on you, I'm just going to, I will stand and watch until, until it gets too violent.

Oh, okay. We can call Taz too. I know Taz. Let's get Taz. I'm not scared of Taz. I'm not scared of Taz for one second. Come on. We'll get Taz's son. I see.

I can't comment. And I, and I think Taz is a nice guy. I got nothing against Taz. I don't, I've never seen Taz's son. Taz's son may be able to whip my ass, but I'm not going to get my ass whipped by someone older than 50 years old. Okay.

All right. Well, we'll come up with a tag team name, but it will not, it will not be the, uh, the Dudley boys because, uh, yeah, Bubba Ray and Devon would both have a problem with that. But I think you've set yourself up nicely with a problem with Bubba Ray.

It's not a problem in my eyes. We'll see. We'll see. That'll be a nice, uh, it'll be a nice conversation. We'll, we'll, we'll talk to Bubba Ray.

Sounds good. But speaking of, of tag teams and combinations, you know, last night we brought this up on air that the Los Angeles Lakers were bringing in Patrick Beverly. Yes. They traded, uh, what was his name? Shep Horton Tucker.

Yes. Did they throw in Stanley Johnson as well? And he had some moments for the Lakers last season. They actually, they traded one guy who plays defense for two. And now, so Patrick Beverly is a Laker and can knock down some big outside shots as well. Yeah, no, he, he, he can play point guard. He's a type of dude.

I know this sounds crazy. He's, he's the type of guy you want on a championship team, but is he enough to be on the Los Angeles Lakers? The other element is the Lakers still have Russell Westbrook on the roster. These two. And when I say these two, I'm referring to Patrick Beverly and Russell Westbrook.

They have a history of sniping at each other, insulting each other, being a pain in the ass with the, with each other. I mean, it was, I think two, three years ago, Russell Westbrook, it had to be three. He was on the Houston Rockets and James Harden just scored about 47 points on Patrick Beverly. And one of the callers or not one of the callers, one of the media members asked Russell Westbrook, what did you think about Patrick Beverly? What do you think about his defense?

And what do you think about the game? And Russell Westbrook basically said, man, this man ain't doing nothing out there. He's, he's out there tricking y'all. Take a listen. And like he played defense, he don't guard nobody, man, just running around doing nothing.

It's not, as you've seen what happened, 47, all that commotion to get 47. Yeah, he running around doing nothing. He tricked y'all.

He's running around doing nothing. Patrick Beverly, it was only a couple of months ago, at the end of the season, Patrick Beverly was on ESPN and he wasted no time. And I guess he has a crystal ball. He wasted no time talking about the Lakers and what he could add to the team. And guess what? Now he's a Laker.

Listen to this. I guess he's going to be bossing around, bossing around LeBron. Listen, if I was a free agent and I played for the Lakers, I'm going to the playoffs, going to the West conference finals. So you believe if you were a member of the Lakers, they'd go to the Western conference fund as presently constructed or with the team as presently constructed or would somebody have to go?

No, no, nobody goes. It's that same team, Western conference finals. Cause they have no one that's who's in no discredit to LeBron James, no discredit to LeBron James, but he's doing so much. Who's the leader. They had success because it was a leader there. Rondo was there at the time.

He was the leader. Who's the leader who's telling LeBron LeBron, you got to be low man, bro. That ain't, that ain't your help out.

You got to X out. No one's telling them that not on a consistent basis. And Patrick Beverly's going to tell him that everyone that okay. Cause I want to win. Cause it's not about me scoring 20.

It's not about me having 15 dimes. I want to win. I want to beat everyone. I play. If I put in you playing cards right now, I want to win.

That's it. Patrick Beverly is going to join the Lakers and be the leader. Is that what's going to well, listen to hell might freeze over and I might have to, you know, kind of eat my words.

Hi, Makai Becton. But I mean, damn, but now you are a Los Angeles Laker. You're going to be the leader of the team. You're going to tell LeBron what to do. Short's teamwork. You might say, Hey, LeBron do that.

You might point out because short you will teammates. You the leader now. I know LeBron watched that and just laughed.

And then he went and put more peanut butter on his sandwich or whatever he's doing. I mean, damn, it's going to be fun. And you know, a lot of this can be overblown guys have to beef with each other when they're, you know, opposing players and then they get together and they have to work as a team.

And here's the other element. There's still no guarantee that Russell Westbrook will be a Los Angeles Laker by the time the regular season starts. There's not to say that this move getting Patrick Beverly from the Utah Jazz isn't the first step in another move that gets Russell Westbrook the hell up on out of town. And LeBron James, he did go on Twitter today. He responded to a tweet that basically said, yeah, Russell Westbrook, he's going to come back better this year. Some fan or reporter or media guy tweeted that out and LeBron James responded, yeah, I can't wait to see people see or watch Russell Westbrook bounce back.

And maybe it'll happen, but how about everybody stay healthy first and slim the nut, man. This is, I'm not expecting, I'm not going to say I'm shocked. I'd be shocked, but the Lakers aren't my number one choice to win the championship. Now you bring in a Patrick Beverly, just, just give me drama. Give me drama.

Give me stories. Give me fights. Russell Westbrook and Patrick Beverly will act perfectly fine if they are on the same team together.

And if not, let's get them fighting some more. Let's get insults on the court. Let's get Russell Westbrook tricking everybody about Patrick Beverly. Oh, he doesn't do anything.

He tricks you guys. And then let's get Patrick Beverly, you know, talking about again, hey, I'm on the Lakers now. I'm going to be the leader. I need to hear him say that when training camp starts. I need them looking at LeBron when he says it too.

Patrick Beverly isn't even going to be any of the, uh, he's not even going to be in a shot with LeBron James when they do media photos, maybe a team shot, not next to him. I love it. It's the JR sport re-show here on CBS sports radio 8 5 5 2 1 2 4 CBS. We're going to take a break. We're going to come back.

I'm going to get to every human being that calls me up and then we're going to roll out. You're listening to the JR sportbrief on CBS sports radio. You're listening to the JR sportbrief on CBS sports radio.

CBS sports radio start off by saying you're one of the best in the game, man. I really enjoyed listening to the show. I love the show.

I've discovered it last year when there was actually no sports going on and I'm loving it ever since. I genuinely love your show. Your takes are great. I may not agree with all of them, but they're on point.

Call in now at 8 5 5 2 1 2 4 CBS. Well, thank you. Be kind of odd. If you agreed with everything I said, that'd be kind of freaky.

Nobody should agree with everything somebody. Disagree, please. Hey, Shep, do you think we can get through all of the calls on the board before we roll out? Do you think we can do that? I don't think I know we can. We can? Oh, I don't think. Oh, we will.

You will. I know you can. Well, let's start.

Brad in Colorado Springs. What's on your mind? Hey guys, I love your show and take this with a sense of humor, but like, I am 65 and I'll bet I could whoop your tag team partner. You want to, you think you can beat Shep in a fight? I know I could.

Why? Well, I just know who I am and I know where I've been. I know my history. And I mean, you know, tell us about it. What do you, did you beat a Predator up? Did you beat a Terminator? Did you fight Robocop?

Like what happened? Well, I can tell you this. Ron Lyle said that I hit him harder than Muhammad Ali.

Lyle Al Zayda was afraid of nobody, but he knew not to fight me because he'd seen me fight before and he walked away. What did you do in kindergarten? Beat up bullies. Okay, good. Thank you.

Any, anything else, Brad? Well, you know, the thing about, you know, violence on the field, you know, I mean, we're teaching kids that you can get away with anything and there's no real, you know, repercussion. And at some point, somebody's going to get off an airplane, get on a football field or a basketball court or a baseball diamond, and they're going to be violent on an opposing player. And some district attorney is going to say, screw the NFL, screw the NBA. They're going to send cops in there and arrest them. Well, maybe, maybe, you know, maybe, maybe in, in due time, Brad, maybe I don't, maybe eventually one of our callers is just like, ah, one day something will happen. Of course, one day something will happen, but, uh, not right now.

Soon, maybe. Tim is calling from Maryland. You're on CBS sports radio. Hey, JR. What's up? Uh, I've called a few times, man. A number of times, actually, lately.

I don't know if your memory, but it doesn't matter. Um, the one thing that, uh, that I think hasn't been mentioned that I think should be mentioned, you know, I'm going to get ready to turn 62 years old and I've been around sports a long time, man. And I'm going to tell you right now, back in the day, uh, when you had, you know, players like Aaron Donald, you know, throwing helmets at people or whatever, you know, coaches didn't tolerate that.

Okay. Uh, I think that's the biggest problem with the NFL today that, that, that coaches are just afraid to, you know, stand up to these, these guys that are making so much money and that are, you know, supposedly so, so good, but back in the day, they didn't care. Yeah.

It's like, I'll tell you one of the biggest ones, not only Joe Gibbs, but, uh, bill Parcells, you know, he didn't play that, you know, I remember seeing a video of bill Parcells, you know, one of his best defensive players came off the field cause he kept getting in fights and he, and he grabbed him and said, look, you get in another fight, you're going home for good. Well, the difference, the difference is this man, Aaron Donald is still playing football, not just because of the salary, but because the head coach is there and the head coach is still playing football. Yeah. And the head coach is also making buckets of money. And Sean McVay is making what, nine, 8 million, $10 million a season. He's, he ain't going to say nothing. Yeah.

And times are different, man. Everybody's making money and they're, they're, they're more together than they are separate. Paul is calling from Rhode Island. Jay, thank you for taking my call.

First of all, I like to say something I never said to you. And I, we spoke a few times, the special Olympics. I appreciate from the bottom of my heart, what you do for special Olympics all around when the diamond in the rough kid lands on your, on your family, you appreciate people like you it's in my family, but let's what the original call I wanted to say is the officiating last year was at this race. It was unbelievable how many teams ended up eight and seven.

Eight and seven issue, never been eight and seven. And I know some of these teams made their own bed with penalties. I understand that, but I'm begging for this year for them, for these Ziba brothers that put that $700 suit and go on that field and passionately judge the best they can for whether it's a high market team or low market team, they got to find the right crews. And I want your honest opinion.

Was it good last year? They're human beings. Well, thank you, Paul. I appreciate you and much love to all my friends at, at special Olympics.

Yes. Special Olympics.org how you can get involved, how you can participate. And it's not just a matter of, of having any type of disability or any level of ability. You can go out there and participate in, in many capacities. So if you love sports and I believe you do because you're listening to this radio show, you can find something locally with special Olympics that can not just benefit other individuals, but you yourself.

And so, yeah, I got some other projects kicking around and coming soon with special Olympics. So stay tuned, but here's the deal when it comes to any referee, any official, any zebra, it's not just a matter of last season or prior season. They're human beings. They're going to make mistakes. Every single one of these sports leagues need to better utilize technology to get calls correct. If I got to think about baseball, umpires don't want to go anywhere because they have a union, but we should be utilizing technology to pretty much kind of figure out what the strike zone looks like.

What exactly is the strike zone? And I think it also speed up the game. In the NFL, there's not a damn thing stopping the NFL right now from putting chips on the field or utilizing technology. Let's think about this. The NFL is still using a chain and a stick to measure first downs. You want to tell me that we can't speed that crap up?

Forget the officials. Let's use the technology, please. Kevin, call him from Louisville.

Go ahead. I'm sorry, JR. What are you sorry about? I dropped the phone.

I'm out here on cocktails. Hey, man. Oh, oh, oh. Yep.

How many? Well, I love you, bro. I love you, too.

The best sports show on the planet. Thank you. Many planets.

Yeah, any planet. Mr. Donald, he was making his statement known today. You know what?

I don't have to swing these things. Just let y'all know I'm here. I'm going to win in our Super Bowl. I think the Rams are going to do that. But God dang, they go through my Niners. JR, you know how I feel about my Niners.

My dang Aaron Donald, he's a beast. Yeah, he is. I'm scared of him. I'm scared of him, man. You should be. He's going to drink one of your cocktails and then hit you with a helmet.

You should be afraid. I don't know, but he should be doing that. But anyway, he's just making his presence. Hey, man, I'm here. I'm not going nowhere.

I'm going to be here this year and do my thing. So I think he was, you know, a little. What do you say, JR? A little. I don't think he needed help making a statement.

I mean, I think he's dangerous enough with his hands and his legs that God gave him. But Kevin, always a pleasure, man. Appreciate you for calling from Louisville. I love you, man.

Tell Super Producers to save a date. I love him, too. Yeah, we love Shep. He's right here.

Thank you, Kevin. Hey, Shep, you lied to me, man. That's not that you got it. No.

Oh, OK. It's impossible. There's nothing is impossible for JR. No, it is.

There's no way in hell I can get through all of our calls. It's impossible, man. OK, I had a face. No, I don't. I know the facts here.

This is no way in hell. Listen, I'm going to be gone tomorrow. You're doing the show, man. I love it. I love it. I appreciate it, JR.

Thanks, man. We're going to have some fun. Callers are welcome throughout. Just like your typical show, JR, it is no guess.

It is caller heavy. And I can't wait, man. Where can people follow you, Shep?

They can follow me at The Good Shepherd Underscore. And, JR, we're going to talk about a lot of what you hit on the last four days. And it's going to be captivating. It's going to be stimulating. And it's going to be celebration based.

So I can't wait for that. And you have such a well-deserved Friday off, my friend. Well, thank you.

And listen, just pray for Chet Holmgren, OK, in his foot while I'm gone. Yeah. Yeah.

Sam Pressy, mister. We'll spin it again. Yeah, sure. Tell everybody where they can get you again, Shep.

At The Good Shepherd Underscore. I'm going to miss JR tomorrow, but you will have him back Monday. And I know we're all excited for that.

Oh, you'll do amazing. Listen, I'm not going to forget about Bubba Ray. Damn it.

I'm not going to do it tomorrow, but we're going to find Bubba Ray. I want to clarify that Monday. OK. All right. Well, now you want to clarify before I hit him up. OK. Well, I'm having a little bit of fun with that. I get that the guy is all pro in what he does. He an all-pro ass whippler. I understand that.

It's tongue and cheek. JR Sportbreeze shows CBS Sports Radio's done. Shep tomorrow. Me next week. Amy Lawrence up next. Don't move. Thank you, Shep.
