This is the United States Champion. He became my first self. Ladies and gentlemen, the ball is a little bit more. contest is set for one flaw. Introducing first from Lithuania, he weighs 123 kilos, the Russian nightmare, Nikita.

Now the devil's nightmare. Welcome back to another episode of It's Time to Man Up.

So let me ask you a question. What... What excites you? Like, what do you get excited about? What lights of fire underneath you?

What are you passionate about? Or maybe I'll ask it this way: what is it that would ignite Ignite something inside of you.

Well, that okay you just heard was my guest today in studio, Scott Kidd. Welcome to the Man Up Show.

Well, thank you, and thank you for having me.

Well, it's great to have you here. Of course, we were just with each other not long ago. You're over in Asheboro, North Carolina, and you were just sharing with me before we came on air that was born and raised in Asheboro. Yep, that's right. Yep.

Okay. And so didn't stray too far from home? Not too far from home, nope. Went to East Carolina for a year and a half and lived in Randoman, but that's about as far as away from home as I've ever been. Like for living.

Yeah, like living purposes.

So right away I got to ask, so what, just out of curiosity, a little sidebar, what is the furthest place you've ever traveled to or ever? Did you go out of have you been out of countries? I have. I've been to Europe as a kid, yeah.

Okay. I've been to a few places. But in growing up at the time, East Carolina was the. The extent of it. I did get to go with a group of pastors last year to Korea on a South Korea?

Yes. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, I had to. You know, hey, yeah, that's right. I think.

I just clarify that. Yeah, just clarify. Yeah, that was a great experience.

So, so, we, yeah, we could share some stories there perhaps. They did a. the actually the the army Brought me and I know you grew up well. If you grew up in the Carolinas, you're probably a little familiar with wrestling, I'm guessing. A little bit, yeah.

Just like I've heard of it before. You've heard of, so you probably heard of the Road Warriors. Oh, yes. And so the military brought. brought myself and animal and hawk over to seven different army bases in South Korea.

Oh, okay. To do prayer breakfasts. Prayer luncheons, and then we did a couple chapel services on a couple of the bases in the evenings there. Oh, that's cool. That's really cool.

It was. How long ago was that?

Well, of course they're both passed and Hawk passed in 2003.

Okay. So this would have been the late the the the late nineties. Um Yeah. No, no, I'm no, I I you know what? I'll tell you what it was.

It was in 2000 in Two.

Okay. It was in 2002 that we we made that trip. Wow. That is really cool.

Now, they were one of my favorites as a kid watching the Road Warriors. I had to go out and get me a necklace with the spikes on it. You know, with the collar. Come on, dog collar. Yeah, the dog collar.

With the spikes. Yeah. Oh, my gosh. That's awesome.

Well, you were one of many who they were a fan favorite over the years. Legendary career, I mean, as a tag team. I think, I don't know, the wrestling fans are the greatest when you need to know information. I think they were together as a tag team longer than any other. tag team ever.

There's been a lot of great tag teams. Oh yeah. Than any other team. Oh, that's right. Ever.

Who would you say would the like the. When you think of tag teams, who do you think would be like the tag team of wrestling?

Well, I mean, in my era, you know, I don't follow the modern stuff nearly as much. And we were talking about that back then. Yeah, yeah, yeah. What is called the golden era of wrestling? Many fans have told me that was the gold, that was the best era.

So everyone has their own opinion. But. That said, I mean, you know, I got the ring with, you know, the Midnight Express, the Rock and Ricky and Robert, the Rock and Roll Express. You know, they were, I mean, if you want to go back a little further, the Minnesota wrecking crew, Ole and Gene Anderson, you know, had an incredible run as a tag team. And there have been other teams, but again, I don't think other teams lasted nearly as long.

So I don't know that I would qualify them as a real dominating tag team. But if you're talking about just longevity, in my view, I'm a bit biased, but because Mike and Joe were personal friends, that they're on the top of the list for me. What about you, Audio? I would say the Red Warriors, of course, Rock and Roll Express. When I think of tag teams, of course, you guys as well, the Russian Nightmare and the three cruise ship.

Uh what was uh Kresha Khrushchev yeah yeah Uncle Libun yeah well hey well you know maybe we could throw the superpowers in there but but we only we were only together for about two and a half years Dusty and I That's right. That was closer to the end of your Yeah well, no, it was about uh mi mid mid. Uh we we te Ivan and I teamed up in from 84 to 86 seven-ish. And then and then Dusty and I formed when I saw the light, you might say. Yeah, when you started making friends with them.

Came to the other side. He and I teamed up at the tail end of 86. And then so 87, 88, Part of 89, him and I would have run the roads together. and leading into it's a whole other show and story for another time when I walked away from wrestling uh to take care of um uh uh a wife who was dying of cancer. And so I I made the executive decision to to just step away from the limelight and and main events.

Um, and and take care of her until her passing, and so and then would re-emerge uh in 91 again in WCW.

So, but uh, but let's get back to you. It's not about me today.

Okay, I want to highlight you and what you do now.

So, you're over in Asheboro, North Carolina, and uh, I know you sent me a couple cliff notes here. You, your lovely, lovely wife, Molita. That's right.

Now, now 31 years, 31 years. Congratulations, because that in today's world is a milestone. And how did you and well, first of all, Molita, what's the story on that's not a typical right. I believe that was a family name.

Okay, I think it might have been one of her aunts or great aunts or something like that. Gotcha. Yeah, but it is a very pretty name. It is, it really is. And you guys met where?

Well, she went, we both went to Coleridge Elementary School together. No way. You guys were all the way. She didn't get away longer than third one year.

Well, actually, we weren't. We weren't together. But you've known her. And that was a K-8 school, so it was elementary and middle school.

Okay. I remember one of my best friends always picking on her and so forth. But it wasn't until I got into high school. And uh they had a a school dance there and we uh We connected there. She was there.

I was there.

Okay. Yeah. Okay. So at a school dance. Yep.

And I can't remember who asked who, but we ended up dancing together that night. And the rest is history.

So to speak. Oh, yeah. We've been together for a while.

So it sounds like she would technically qualify as a high school sweetheart. Oh, absolutely. Yeah. Yes. Yeah.

Oh, that's amazing. And I know you got, I guess, three adult children now. Yes. Yeah. Isaac, Elijah, and then my oldest is Faith.

There's some pretty good biblical names, Scott. You got to go there. Oh, yeah. Yeah, I'm very proud of you. Intentional on.

The motivation behind naming them is that. Of course, yeah. That's pretty cool. And, um They live near you? They live around Asheboro.

They can spread out. Where are they at?

Well, Faith is, she works with UNTO, which is a ministry arm of crew down in Orlando, Florida.

Okay. And she. Uh she's been down there for a while. And then my middle son, Isaac, he just graduated from pharmacy school, so he's local still. And then my youngest son, Elijah, he's in the Air Force and he's stationed in Guam.

So he's uh yep. He's doing well over here. I have wrestled in Guam. Oh, yeah. Oh, wow.

I have wrestled in Guam and Zaipan.

Okay. As well over there on the other side of the world by Japan. That's all. Zaipan, yeah. Like, I remember when they first said you're going to Zaipan, I'm going.

Like like where is that? Like that's right. Wait, what? And that was quite a Guam and Zaipan were were quite a quite an experience, actually. Yep.

Yeah. Wow. Well, I thank thank you that you got a A son serving in the military, by the way. Thank you for that. And so, so, so, no grandchildren as of not yet, not yet.

Isaac's our best hope right now because he is. Destined to be ma married, scheduled to be married in October.

So hopefully. Oh, fun. Hopefully, it won't be too much longer. All right. Yeah.

And of course, you'll probably a hundred thousand people have told you what it's like to have a grandchild versus raising a child. Yeah, it's incredible, incredible blessing.

Now, you're over in Asheboro. More recently, you had invited me over once a year. I kind of teed up the show with using the word ignite, your shirt right there. Yep, ignite. And so take a minute first.

I know you're pastoring over Union Grove Christian Church in Asheboro, but tell us about Ignite, a little bit about Ignite, what your vision is there, what you're doing there.

Well, first off, the mission is very simple, is to unite the churches of Randolph County in order to reach the lost. And it's really to. It's great commission-minded. It's great commission based on our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, who directed us, the church, in Matthew 28:19, to go. And make disciples of all nations.

Great commission, right? Absolutely, absolutely.

So. We I would say most biblical churches are concerned for the lost, but are we really doing a good job of reaching the unchurched and the lost? And so This was something that was placed on my heart as well as Brian Pierce's heart, our chairman, our co-chair. And he we both came together and Um I was seeking the Lord's guidance and doing something. The Lord had put it both on our hearts to do something to reach the lost and to see revival.

How long ago? That was 2018, 2019 was when the Lord was speaking into his heart as well as my heart and speaking to us through a mutual friend that we had. Of course, Chuck Powers was instrumental in this as well. And so the Lord was really just bringing us to this point. And as we were praying about it and talking about it.

In fact, Brian is one of my dearest friends of all time. I'm blessed to have a friend like Brian Pierce. He was um He has a heart for revival. And He was wanting to do something for Randolph County for revival. On the other hand, I'm over here and I am burn out on what we call unquote unquote revival in the churches.

We have a revival budget, we have a revival week, we have revival speakers, and at the end of the week, we pat ourselves on the back and we said we have revival. And As a pastor, I felt I felt that I was contributing to this idea of this being revival, which that is not revival, especially when you. when after you go through that week, there's no change. When there's no change, there's no revival. When people are too tired to come back to church on Sunday morning the next week or to plug in somewhere else because they've came extra the week before, And they applaud themselves for For coming up.

For showing up. Yeah, if they do, but yes.

So that's not revival. Anyhow, so I'm at that point where I'm kind of disgruntled with myself and the church as a whole. Church as just the church as usual. And there's a lot of great things that happen through revival meetings and revival weeks, but true revival, I was really hungry to see that.

So Brian and myself, we got together, we were talking about that. I said, I feel led to stop doing revivals like this for a little while at church. We did something at Union Grove called A month of Sundays, which went very, very well, and then the year after when I was seeking the Lord, is this what you want us to do again? I felt directed in a different direction. Brian was speaking into me, and it was on his heart to do something.

So I said, Hey, let me hear what you got. And so. Uh we Our hearts just joined together and said, let's try to do this. then Ignite came from that. You're listening to the Truth Network and TruthNetwork.com.

And and and so, you know, I was making a note here while while while you were kind of sharing your heart, sharing your story there, because and I and I have done Many at church revivals. Hey, let's do Sunday through Wednesday night, or kick it off Sunday morning or wrap it up Wednesday night or whatever. I've been a part of.

some even extended revivals and you know long longer ones and whatnot. And uh but as you were speaking, I'm like, yeah, do do we just revive somebody uh during during for for a week or dur during the week or or or is is that revival that fire that's lit inside, ignited inside of us, does it become a Is it there for a lifetime, not just plugging in for the fall revival, spring revival? And, oh, here we go again. You know, let's check that box. Scott, let me ask you this: you know, you mentioned uniting the churches as part of the vision for Randolph County there in North Carolina.

And I know in my travels, have you found it? difficult or or and or challenging to Get pastors to to Collaborate together, to work together. I've got to be careful what I say here. I know, but as transparent as you can be. Yes, yeah.

Um, There is a challenge there for sure. But I will say this: that God is doing something in Randolph County. We have a group of pastors that cross denominational lines. We agree on the important things, the foundational things that are peripheral. Exactly.

And when the peripheral things go, you know, we get along very well. In fact, we call it the pastors' prayer group on Thursday morning. We get together and we'll lean on one another. We'll share prayer requests. We actually will go from one church to the next to the next and pray over that church.

Just trying to rotate churches on a week-to-week basis. Yes. Yes. Okay. And so Randolph County is very unique in that it is, for the record.

Keep going. Yes, yes.

So that does help with the network that we have there. Although you still have, it's really challenging with Ignite Randolph. And just to backtrack just a little bit. We We want to accomplish the great commission together. I believe we're stronger together.

I believe when we are divided or we're worried about our programs or our growth or whatever it might be, those things.

sort of divide us.

So being in the same area and working with the same people over decades now, I thought it would be really easy to pull people together. Of course, everybody's got their own thing going. They're busy, things of that nature. There's a lot of things that challenged us coming together, more so than what I thought it would be. But.

Over the next two or three years, God did a work and was bringing the church together, not just through Ignite Randolph. There's other things, and we see it's a God thing going on in Randolph County where the churches lean on one another, help one another, and It's a great thing, for sure. I know you recently invited me to a luncheon. I guess you do it once a year. I think you do the luncheon to just bless the pastors and those who come alongside.

And you had a great time there, certainly meeting some of the folks for the first time. And I'm excited for your vision because, and the reason I bring it up is because I'm at a lot of different communities. I've even done a lot of ministry in your community. You mentioned Chuck Powers. He had brought me in a couple.

Two or three different times, I think, to the prison there in Asheville. And just had an incredible time there in the prison setting. um and and sh you know share sharing with those those guys and And then a couple other churches and pastors. I've got a friend who's new to Randolph County, Gary Eller. Who's up in the little town right now will slip my mind as to but he's in Randolph County and he had moved down.

He spent the last 20 years up in Ohio. And ministering up in Ohio. And so he was excited, him and his wife, to come back. North Carolina was really kind of home for them.

So that's been a transition of sorts. But I say all that to say. I'm in a lot of different communities, and it just kind of blows my mind, to be honest with you, full transparency of how many churches just. and pastors will not Work together. And, you know, you mentioned the word divide.

I mean, in my mind, I'm like, Wait a minute. Are we on the same team here? Like, aren't we all fighting for the kingdom cause and the cross is before us, right? Like, that's right. That's right.

But for whatever reason, you know, I know there is an enemy out there who. who would love nothing better than to keep us all divided and You know arguing, fighting over, you know, some of the more peripheral things and instead of the Uniting under the foundational things. That's right.

So Well that's well that's good.

So what have been so I I know with Ignite you've done uh You've done some different outreaches. This September, end of September, you're doing a wrestling outreach. That's right.

You did it last year, had a tremendous turnout. Just take a minute here before we run out of time. Tell us about the outreach and Ignite and. Backtrack just a little bit too again. We began doing things in the park.

Um Where we had a Christian band, we had Christian speakers and stuff, and the idea was that the revival. would take place before the event. that we'd reach out to our churches and our church friends, that we'd come together, ignite this idea. That we're going to do this in the park, bring your unchurched friends, we're going to play the music loud enough to where people can come out and hear the gospel, right?

So the revival we were hoping would take place before the event. And then, when we experienced revival, the church experienced revival and togetherness, then we're going to see people get saved.

So we did that for a few years and had some success with that. Um But a couple of years ago the Lord put on our hearts to to to reevaluate if Are we doing what we the best thing to do? And so that's where the Lord opened up the door, just wide open for. The opportunity to do the wrestling event. Combine ministry with wrestling, right?

And And I knew you had Lodi, who I've had on the show here before, and other wrestlers, the guys out of Texas are coming in. Yeah, Rob Vaughan. Yeah, Rob Vaughn Ministries. Not Pierced Ministries. Excuse me.

I'm thinking about one of our drug rehabs. Programs in Randolph County. What is the, it'll come to me in just a second. Rob's.

Well, I know Rob. I've worked with him. He's actually brought me out to Texas to work with him. Power Cross Ministry. Yeah.

I know it was. Yeah. And so, what's your hope? In September for this outreach, what do you hope to accomplish this fall?

Well, September the 27th at Asheborough High School gymnasium from 5 till 7 o'clock is when the show is. And it's going to be a A professional wrestling show. It's going to be awesome. It was great, fantastic last year. I couldn't brag on Rob and Rob Vaughn and Bob Keller.

Yeah, everybody that Robinson went into schools and stuff too, last year. That's right, that's right. And we're going to do the same thing this year. We're going to be able to go into the school systems through the Asheboro City School Systems and bring in a speaker so that they can pump up the kids, give them a positive message, invite them to the event, the free event on Saturday night. They get to come.

They bring their parents. And our hopes is that. Yes, they're getting entertained, they have a good time, but they hear the clear gospel message of Jesus Christ. And here's where. Maybe it stands out a little bit from different events.

Then we. We have Uh we take their information. And we have all these partnering churches throughout Randolph County. If somebody gets saved, somebody comes forward, what have you, we look on the map where they are close to and we plug them into the church because Ignite Randolph is not. Church to disciple, even though we are all called to disciple to bring churches together.

But it's one thing to get someone to bring them to that point of salvation, but we need to see them discipled. And so that's where we have to come together as a body.

Well, I'm looking forward to being a part of it this year. And I know Lodi is tremendous on the school assemblies. You know, you mentioned the school assemblies. You know, they don't like you to talk about Jesus in the schools.

However, you'll invite them out to the wrestling outreach. And so put that, you guys, out there and listening to them. Put that on your radar, Randolph County, Asheboro High School in North Carolina. I've done a number of these in the past. It's going to be a great event.

And, Scott, I know you guys are a first-class organization. Just saw that just from your luncheon and being involved with Chuck in the past, as I mentioned, at the prisons. And, of course, you're over at Union Grove Christian Church. How long have you been? There.

I've been at this church for 13 years, and I love it. You asked me at the very beginning what excites me, what ignites me, and my passion. is being able to preach. And I count it a privilege and a blessing to be able to preach God's Word every week. And I have a wonderful, wonderful church family there at Union Grove.

God is letting me live my dream. Is there a website for the wrestling outreach, or how can people find out more about the wrestling outreach? We have Ignite Randolph on the Facebook page.

So that should be Ignite Outreach. Randolph. Ignite Randolph. Ignite. Ignite Randolph.

Ignite Randolph on the Facebook page. We do have a YouTube channel, and we don't have. We're going to launch some of the stuff from last year pretty soon. And so. Anybody that's out there, please go and follow us on Facebook, follow us on YouTube, and that will help us get the word out.

And if somebody's passing through Asheboro on a Sunday morning, what time service at Union Grove Christian Church? Come see us at 11 o'clock. Just be online on Facebook Live. Yes, we are. Yes.

Okay. On Union Grove Christian Church.

So you can find the church there. Find Ignite, Randolph, Scott, Kidd. Appreciate you. Appreciate you coming in today. Thank you so much for having me.

Yeah, just sharing a little bit of your heart and what's going on there in North Carolina, North Kakalaki. Yes, sir. That's amazing. And so I just want to encourage all of you, go check it out. Go check out.

Give us the Facebook page one more time. Ignite Randolph. Ignite Randolph. Well, we do want to unite Randolph as well as the rest of the world, but specifically Ignite Randolph Facebook page. I-G-N-I-T-E.

Okay. Randolph. Ignite Randolph. And September 27th, Saturday night, September 27th, right? Five o'clock.

Doors open at four. It's a free event. You can't beat the value. It's worth the money. It's free.

It's a free event. So tell all your friends about it. Come on out. And if you are passing through Asheboro, stop in and see there at Union Grove Christian Church. Stop in and see Scott King.
