Family policy matters in engaging and informative weekly radio show and podcast produced by the North Carolina family policy Council hi this is John Ralston, presidency, family, and were grateful to have you with us for this week's program is our prayer that you will be informed, encouraged and inspired by what you hear on family policy matters and that you will fold better equipped to be a voice of persuasion for family values in your community, state and nation, and now here's our house to family policy matters. Tracy Devitt Griggs thanks for joining us this week for family policy matters in a bizarre time when even calling someone a man or woman can be politically incorrect. We need more than ever strongman who understand and embrace their unique calling as leaders and defenders stand courageous is a ministry of family research Council aimed at helping men become better leaders. Husbands, fathers, church members and citizens as they strive toward Biblical manhood will retired Lieut. Gen. Jerry Boykin serves as the family research Council's Executive Vice President and a key player in the stand, courageous ministry. He was one of the original members of the US Army's Delta force later commanded the Green Berets and served as deputy undersecretary of defense for intelligence before retiring from military service. Gen. Boykin welcome to family policy matters very much.

I'm glad to be your own sword would lead to be owned in large holes to all right will welcome back to the Tar Heel state tell us why it was so important to start the stand, courageous ministry, we do the research Council individually about what you what to build a better we watched how society has tried to denigrate the masculinity tried to give them at best a secondary role in the family of the and how they are being told no different than the woman will God created for more than just their genitalia. God created them for different purposes and created them with different skills so we believe that if we can get the men back on track to where they understand their masculinity and they understand that it's okay to to be a masculine man, so long as it comports with the teachings of the Bible. We believe that will help the country as a whole if the men get it right. We think country as a whole. Get it right, you mentioned the shift in our culture's understanding or view of masculinity. Talk about that a little bit more what is the shifts that you seen the shifts that we are saying here, or the big lie is a big lie. Doesn't matter what gender you're born. As you can change that.

If you choose to do so. That's a big lie. That's probably the biggest flaw that we remember promulgated a solution so we also see the the salt own masculinity has become even an academic thing now where you have colleges or universities. Teaching overcoming toxic masculine UK. When you combine the term toxic with masculinity. You are setting America failure because masculinity when practiced according to God's word is very important to the health of our society and it is not being done that way right now there's an all-out assault: masculinity in men are told essentially that they are no different on a woman and this is this is part of the big lie think the chart will America charting our society shorting our families call their families to disintegrate in many ways not think this is what we are trying to to go after and get it back on track. We mentioned a lot of roles that men play leaders, husbands, fathers, church members, citizens are there certain parts of these roles are certain roles that are most affected by this what you call the assault on masculinity.

You are encouraged based on the book of the road called dialogue five things men are supposed to be a defender defense what he holds dear members, pulling their provider. He provides not only the physical needs of his family, but it provides an ability. It provides what direction they provides training third thing is a management battle buddy. A man needs to be a battle but you know God says is not good for man to be all and then you look at some of the greatest stories in the Bible and it was about people like Joshua and Caleb or David and Jonathan stood over Timothy, and Paul and so we know that a man needs another man to that he can rely on. So manners is called a beer bottle but Manitoba be an extra instructor. He is supposed to teach each other's understand the world of the lives of like the sons of district. He understands the times and he's got to be able to share a vessel managing structured and finally managing chaplain and the man has to be a chaplain not only in his home, but it is community and the circle of friends of the man has to be ready day in and day out, ready all the time. Not not just part of the time, but to be ready in season analyses in the Bible says so those are the things that we focus so we are seeing couple things your number one mentor distracted or distracted by things like pornography, gambling, sports, and in that type of thing and those those things.

So much of a man's time to do so.

He is not spending his time doing what he needs to do as a father is of a contributing community member and and then the other thing that we are worshiping is not reading the Bible better not to not enter routine prayer life and they read the Bible and read the law. There past originals on the mark but they don't have a routine reading program and that is one of the things that we believe that we need to try and get them excited about is reading the Bible, which is why we put out a report out a two-year read through the Bible program is not overwhelming and it gives them time to contemplate and ponder what they read. If you look at Ephesians 6.

The two things on occasion six low low low low God are all about reading the word and having a good prayer life so short of the things that we think mentor supposedly in the summer.

The were in Calgary think it's important men recognize that they have a biblical mandate that there is a biblical definition of manhood well because society offering itself all alone the wrong track.

The Bible does not God's word never returned.

He is the same yesterday today and forever by Chuck Berkley are so if a man gets into the word. There comes a point where he's going to be challenged by different things. But if he has talked away the word of God in his heart he got make the right decisions don't do the right things because he knows the word is when you move from how you feel your heart to what you know your head and that's that's what were trying to do were trying to get these men showed up to where no matter how much their feelings might hurt them or failing they will ultimately go back to what they know because regret the word of God little bit more about this concept of being a battle buddy because I know in our churches. We hear a lot about being a good husband and being a father, but sometimes we don't hear a lot about being a good render an accountability partner yeah you know you need man in your life and you need to be the man in somebody else's like your battle buddy can come to you or you can go to him say I I am struggling. I have some fears. I have some apprehensions I'm dealing with a very difficult situation and I need you to calculate. I need you to pray for me now what you tell them that you know is not uncompromising. That's a battle buddy mother but is one of Sir Alfred Ford in the end he will and he will pray for your party with your right to pray for you.

Keep your pleasure snuggled around telling people what you're struggling with battle buddy is what you call us several failed and failed and and I don't what to do in your you the battle but is one that shows confession is one takes you back. First John 19 shows if we confess our sins he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. As your battle buddy gives you be the one that will remind you, you may be a golf buddy, but I just just a golfing pile is not a battle but you knew someone that you can be intimate with in terms of your sharing with him your your inner thoughts, your hopes and fears and struggles, and he can do the same with you a battle buddy is a concept that is goes back to the military gear when you go to battle buddy in the military that God knows where you are watching your six is always conscious of the world where you are and and by the way, if you get into a bad situation about what is going to be there and I have seen men do that. I've seen men go to rescue their battle buddies and die in the process of doing so, but they never answered. Never hesitated covering them up for the metals of modern shame receive the medal of honor because they their battle buddies were in jeopardy. And they went after him and the cost so much of what you're saying is countercultural these days is a network response. If you had to this new ministry from the man that good part of our ministry does that come to our events in all it's been overwhelmingly positive, not only would know about Megan ship. It had been very, very positive and like the rest of the world not paying attention to us and we pent up at least one comment on a report on Amazon. Somebody wrote a report I read the book and then Rosa thing about it and they should.

Don't let your children get near this vicious toxic masculinity.

That's exactly exactly what I want to hear from them because it is obviously hitting their bloodwork person. It is not about toxic masculinity. It is about this about love and your family loving your wife loving your God is love and look. To that you serve in the nation that she shook but were not good. Good feedback. Gen. Boykin, I hate to say that I am pleasantly surprised to hear you talk about your faith and to carry that.

You know the Bible the way that you do and having known you more from your work in the Army, but work for you how much your faith works for you there. I mean, was that something that you are able to just express freely what was that like for you. Well, when I came up to the Army looked, there was never an issue so that I I was never in your face, but it was never a problem but that has all changed since I got out of the Army have been the Army for almost 15 years and I will tell you that 15 years. I watch in the Army is changing now because there's this world society is doing everything he can to beat down any notion of a superior being, or any notion of freedom to practice your faith in the military is being beaten down so not shy. More males in the Army I was and I can print I could say guys to pray for you before you go and I think the you find pictures of me doing that. If you read my autobiography. Never surrender. If I'm thinking of me standing up for him before he loved operations. So things are different now since you mentioned the great conferences that you guys have the resources, where can our listeners go to find out more about the stand, courageous ministry go to stand courageous lookup stand courageous you find a website for the FRC family research Council website or you could just go to and that but you can find stand courageous in the tell you were going to be. It's got a lot of stuff in there what we trying to do is once we've had a conference. We try to hold the attention of those men in a variety of ways, not the least of which is weekly devotionals. The monthly phone call was somebody you know we have Franklin Graham and Ricky Skaggs had a variety of people are well known to talk to them and then we can we put coaching videos we could put out all kinds of things to to keep their interest of the that we believe will help them in their walk with Christ executing their role as well.
