To experience Kingdom Health, one must develop a mindset that allows for food discipline and temperance, which enables self-control and a willingness to make healthy choices. This mindset shift is crucial for achieving spiritual health and well-being, as it allows individuals to operate in the fruits of the Spirit, including temperance. By exercising food discipline and temperance, individuals can enjoy more freedom in what they eat, including being able to indulge in celebrations and special occasions, while still maintaining a healthy and balanced lifestyle.

The thief comes to kill and destroy. I have come that you may have life and have it more abundantly. Bodies in Christ. It is time for Kingdom Health Transformation with Mike James. Good afternoon, good afternoon out in the light land. This is Mike James with Bodies in Christ, a Kingdom Health Transformation. And we're glad to be here today and I hope everyone is having a wonderful afternoon.

It's a gorgeous day outside where beautiful blue skies, a nice cool little tent to the air. So we're going to get back into what we've been talking about over the past few weeks and we have been getting quite a bit of feedback. And in this session, I'm going to talk a little bit about mindset.

We had started that the last time we were on. But also there's a couple of questions that I've gotten from people here over the past few weeks. And I want to share some of those questions and give you because you may have some of the same questions and give you some of the answers to those as well. But now for those of you and I've been reached out to by a number of people, I appreciate you all reaching out.

Don't hesitate to continue to text me if you're interested. We do have several churches as well as individuals that's interested in the Healthy Church Challenge. So I'm going to give you the number to text, which is three three six six three eight one zero zero seven. And you can just put your information, your church information, and then also that is it's in reference to the Healthy Church Challenge. I look forward to hearing from you again.

That's three three six six three eight one zero zero seven. Healthy Church Challenge that we've been talking about for a while now. So I want to get into mindset. And as I mentioned, I'm going to get into some questions that I've been asked over the past few weeks as it relates to health and how to go about this journey.

And we'll talk about that a little bit in a few minutes. But back to mindset, because that's one of the key things as it relates to making changes around health. And one of the things we know from experience or anything that we try to change, everything is not going to happen overnight. It's not going to be a quick fix overnight to where you see drastic changes happen.

But it does take some being intentional. And it takes some some work and some what I call food discipline. Because in almost every other area that we operate in, discipline is required. If we work a job, there's a certain time we have to be at work. There's a certain time that we have to get things done. There's a certain time that we go to lunch. There's a certain time that you're expected to be back from lunch. And there's a certain time you get off work.

In most cases, a certain time that you take vacations, a certain time that you come back from vacations. So all of this and why I'm mentioning this is because those are things that's required as it relates to your working environment. And the same thing applies to almost any other area. You have different disciplines around things that we do in everyday life. I mean, it can be something as simple as your routine before you go to bed, whether it's take a shower, brush your teeth. You know, put on your night clothes or whatever.

You know, get in the bed. You may set your house at a certain temperature. But whatever the routine is, there are certain disciplines that we do around a number of different things. And so as you're thinking about this health journey, as we're talking about this health challenge and going down this road to what I call Kingdom Health, there are certain disciplines that has to be practiced as well. And that's one of the first mindset changes is to know that there are certain things as it relates to eating that you're going to be required to do in order to experience Kingdom Health. One of the things you can still eat a lot of what you love to eat. But again, we just want to apply some some disciplinary measures to it so that you can enjoy those things where you can have your celebrations around food, where you can do a number of different things that you're accustomed to doing. That's a part of your life that brings you joy. We're not trying to take those things away. And a lot of times when people begin a health journey, they feel like they're going to be deprived of all of the things that bring them joy. Because there's a lot of things that revolve around food that brings us a lot of joy.

And so even when you're setting out to do something like this, one of the hesitations a lot of times is what am I going to have to give up? I don't want to start this because Thanksgiving is coming. And I know Thanksgiving is not going to be right unless I'm able to eat everything I want to eat.

Unless I can get two or three plates. Eat until I pass out while the football game is on. Then when I wake up, eat some sweet potato pie. Again, we're not we're not trying to take those things away.

Right. But there are certain food disciplines that if anyone will apply, you will be able to eat just about anything that you want to eat, as long as you have some food discipline around it. And what I mean by food discipline is when you eat, what you eat, how much you eat.

And then having periods of time where you're not eating. Seeing all of those will work together for the good. If we're willing to apply those things, that will allow us to still enjoy food, just like we always had. But now one thing about mindset, and this is where mindset has to change, because I mentioned this on another episode, is that there are certain foods out there, though, that you may love, that are absolutely not good for you at all.

So now this is where the mindset shifts. If it's not good for you at all, if there's nothing good that comes out of that other than you love the way it tastes. Some of those foods we have to learn to do without. And I know that's a gradual process as well, because one of the things that the food industry, right now, one of the things they have done is they have hooked us on a lot of foods that are full of sugar that really is not doing us any good.

So now how do we, we got to break that addiction, we got to come out of feeling like we have to have something with sugar in it, which a lot of times those ultra-processed foods will keep us hungry all the time. So where we're eating every two hours, we're eating something, we're snacking in between meals, we're eating. And if you think about it, if you're out there and you're listening and you say, you know what, that's what I'm experiencing, pretty much every time I look around, I'm eating something, I'm snacking. You know, I'm grabbing a snack here, I'm grabbing a snack there, I'm eating a granola bar. And then some of you say, well, that's a good snack, a granola bar.

We'll talk about that another time. You know, I'm eating this, I'm eating that. I'm snacking on these things that they say, you know, should be good for me.

But again, it's going to take some time, it's going to take some practice to really operate in a different mindset that would allow us to have food discipline. Now, from a spiritual standpoint, and this is all spiritual as we're dealing with this health situation that we're talking about and walking in Kingdom Health is from a spiritual perspective, because again, this is the light. You know, even though I'm certified in health and nutrition and the science of it to work with anyone, you know, I'm called to the body of Christ to give this information to help move us forward in our health because we are promised good health. 3 John 2 says, Beloved, I wish above all things that you prosper and be in health, even as your soul prospers. Health is a given for the believer. So when we talk about food discipline, one of the fruits of the Spirit that I'm actually looking at the list of them right here, so that came in handy because now I don't have to recite them all from memory, even though I could, but I'm looking at them up on the wall. But love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, and the last one, but not the least one is temperance, which is also self-control. So let's talk about that last fruit of the Spirit, temperance or self-control. That's where food discipline comes in.

We have to access the grace of God to operate with some temperance. It's just some self-control. And that self-control, and I go over this in our Healthy Church Challenge as well as anytime I'm working with someone one-on-one on working with them to reset their metabolism and a number of those things, temperance is a big part of that, or self-control. See, in self-control, this is something that we can work on really at any time, not just around food, but food is a hard one because food is something that we have to do pretty much every day. We don't have to eat every day, but most of us do. And a lot of us feel like we have to eat at least three times a day. So sometimes it's hard to operate in self-control around eating because it's something that is necessary for our bodies to perform and to live.

But the other thing around that, it's easy to get off track with something that we have to do because then a lot of times we can take it too far. So where do we want to operate in temperance as it relates to food? Where do we want that self-control to be in place?

So now I talked about mindset. One of those areas is when we eat. That's one of the things we work on in the beginning, whether it's the healthy church challenge or anything else, anybody else I'm working with, is when you eat. We address that because a lot of times we're eating out of boredom. Sometimes we're eating when we get nervous or we get anxious, we eat. Sometimes we eat just because we saw something on television. We're sitting around and we're watching TV and that suggestion comes up to eat something. Sometimes we eat out of tradition. If I'm watching TV, well, I'm a snack on something while I'm watching TV.

Right? You know the saying when in the sports world, if something's going to be a real close game or something exciting sports wise to watch, you know, the old saying, get your popcorn ready. Because again, watching TV or doing something exciting goes with food. The movie theater, they built that, they built that in.

That's a big time. We give ourselves the permission to snack to the extreme, right? And to pay a lot of money for those snacks. I don't know where they get those snacks from.

Those are the most expensive snacks I've ever seen is in the movie theater. But it's the setting and we're willing to pay it. But yeah, we're going to get back into this, you know, mindset, temperance, self-control as it relates to eating and Kingdom Health. We're just going to take a couple minutes here and then we'll get right back into it.

So we'll be back with you in a couple minutes. This is Bodies in Christ. If you're in need of relaxation, rejuvenation will look no further than gifted healing, massage and bodywork owned by Anjurica Artis, a licensed massage therapist since 2021.

Again, this is Bodies in Christ at Kingdom Health Transformation. This is Mike James, and we're getting back into mindset and one of the fruits of the spirit, temperance, self-control, and how that plays a part in our health.

So again, if you're listening out there, and I know some people have reached out about the Healthy Church Challenge, I'm going to give that number again for you to text 336-638-1007 and text that number and also text your church, your name, as well as any other information just saying, hey, I'm texting in relations or in reference to the Healthy Church Challenge. So now we're getting into temperance and self-control as it relates to eating and how that plays a big part in our health. Because when you eat, and I was getting into this, it's almost as important as what you eat. And then also sometimes the order in which you eat food, and that's a whole different subject matter we get into in detail in some of the teaching and some of the classes and things that we do, just how the order that you eat food can have a significant impact on your overall health, weight, and all those different things. But that's where food discipline comes in because if you know, hey, listen, I just need to eat XYZ. Let's say if it's a salad before you dive into a meal of pasta and you eating that salad before you eat a meal of pasta is going to cause your blood glucose to level off a lot quicker than if you didn't eat that salad. Then you just exercise some food discipline and eat a salad before you eat the pasta, even though you're still getting to eat your pasta, but just knowing some of those things that require you to exercise some food discipline can be the difference in you gaining a pound or losing a pound.

And those are some of the things that we teach you as well, but you have to have the mindset that, hey, you know what, I'll get to do those things I want to do a lot of those things. Again, ultra-processed foods, I'm not going to be in favor of you living on ultra-processed foods, but you still can eat them occasionally. And then when you eat something as well, like what time of day, how long of a period of time has it been between your last meal? Have you given your body enough time to really for digestion to completely take place and then you have used all of the glucose that's in your bloodstream and now your cells are looking for fat to burn instead of excess glucose and sugar. Because once that takes place, especially for someone that's looking to lose weight, these are some basic food disciplines or temperance that you have to exercise in order to reset your metabolism. So temperance is important, but you have to have a willing mindset. You have to have a mindset that, okay, I will get to do those other things that I really enjoy about food, but right now I have to eat those things between 10 o'clock in the morning and six o'clock in the evening.

I'm just using this as an example. If you were assigned a food discipline as far as you're eating windows, because that's a part of resetting someone's metabolism is eating in food windows to where you're giving your body an opportunity to burn fat instead of glucose, sugar. Your body's going into those fat reserves and that causes you to lose weight.

It's one of the things that causes you to lose weight. And then another food discipline, what you eat. Right, because even though you may still eat some of the things that you love and that you enjoy, other food disciplines, how you prepare that food, you may get to eat some of the same thing, but you may have to prepare it a little bit differently. That calls for temperance, food discipline, to where, yes, I still get to enjoy this particular food, but I just have to prepare it in a different way. And then being intentional about finding the way to prepare that's going to be most appealing to your palate, because we still want to enjoy food. We don't want food to just be this bland exercise that we do just to give our body fuel. Now, you can get to a point, mindset-wise, to where food becomes, I mean, a matter of function.

Where, yes, I'm eating strictly for fuel. Now, that's not a great way to live because, again, we do a lot of celebrating around food. We do a lot of things that food brings people together. A lot of things we do around food makes us feel good. So we don't want to take all those things away, but we do want to operate in temperance, self-control, which is one of the fruit of the Spirit. And in doing that, that will allow us to enjoy more food, really, if we're willing to exercise some discipline. Because, again, like I said, celebrations, that's a big part of what we do around food. A lot of things we get into as it relates to food is around celebration. So now, wait a minute, speaking of celebration, I'm going to do this because one of our sponsors, as a matter of fact, you hear the commercials, Crawford Cara Plaque Practic Clinic and Wellness Center, of course, their whole mission is to help you be well, stay well.

And then if you have any back ailments or anything that's out of line that's obstructing your nervous system from getting certain signals, they're there to help deal with that. And coming up on October 31st, I know one of the things as believers, a lot of us don't get into the whole wholesale trick-or-treating or whatever, but they have Trunk or Treat. No tricks, just treats. And they're doing this at 1109 Summit Avenue in Greensboro. That's Thursday, October 31st. This is an annual event that Crawford Chiropractic Wellness Center does for the community. And that's from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. And they have fun for all ages. So yes, come out and enjoy the fun. There'll be lots of treats.

No tricks, just treats. And that's Crawford Chiropractic Wellness Center. And you can reach them at 336-373-8344 or visit them online at CrawfordChiro.com.

That's CrawfordChiro.com. So back to what we were talking about in reference to just having some food discipline, self-control, temperance, and exercising. That temperance will allow us to actually have more freedom in what we eat. That's simply how we prepare food. That's one of the food disciplines. When we eat food as far as what time of day and then what order we eat food in as well can be one of those things. And then even some of the foods that we eat, some foods that we eat actually helps us burn fat. And then we can get into that as well.

And that's also a part of some of the coursework that we do is sharing with you those foods that will help you burn fat because they help turn unhealthy fat to what they call brown fat. Well, listen, as usual, this 30 minutes goes real fast. Be blessed. God bless and remember the best is yet to come. Is yet to come. Beloved, I wish above all things that you prosper and be in health even as your soul prospers. Tune in every Thursday at 3.30 p.m. and Saturday at 9.30 a.m. for a Kingdom Health Transformation with Mike Jakes On The Light. .
