Download the Odyssey app today. We are back with the Patriots after what was a bloodletting last year. Do you guys remember? Did the Patriots put up 53 points or something like that in their last game against the New York Jets? And we know that Bill Belichick takes every opportunity that he possibly can to smash the Jets' faces in. Preverbially, not literally because that would probably be against the rules. If you get caught, it's definitely against the rules. It's really against the rules if you do it to a quarterback. It's an explanation for what happened. Wait, I think, okay, don't quote me on this. I feel like the score was 53 to 14.

Jay's googling it. I remember a big score, but I can't. It was bad, and people were laughing or yelling or everything in between about the fact that the Bill Belichick-led Patriots were running up the score.

Now, I have zero problem with piling on. Why? It's professional sports. Are you really going to tell your coaches, your team to stop performing at their best so they don't score?

Like, that's just stupid. It's not up to us to take it easy on another professional opponent. If you don't like that you're getting smashed or beaten or steamrolled or embarrassed, then how about play better? I have zero, no, zero, zero empathy for a team that is watching another team pour on 53 points or however many points or yards. No, you don't like it, then stop them. That's professional sports. You get paid to play. This is not youth soccer, for heaven's sakes.

So I don't have any problem with it. If you can score 53, then score 53. I just know it had to be embarrassing, and it's always personal when Belichick faces the Jets. So it was 54-13. Oh, I was so close. Oh, my gosh. The Patriots were up 34-11. Excuse me. The Patriots were up 34-13 entering the fourth quarter, and then the Patriots decided to score 20 more points. Yep.

Like I said, if you don't like the way the game is going, then do something about it. You're also professional athletes. It's After Hours with Amy Lawrence here on CBS Sports Radio. We're live from the Rocket Mortgage Studios. Whether you're looking to purchase a new home, a new home, or refinance yours, Rocket Mortgage can help you get there for home loan solutions that fit your life.

Rockets can. Yes, we'll see Minnesota play this weekend. The Vikings, you want to talk about, go to the radar.

He's a five-and-one team, and steady Eddie Kirk Cousins. But no one's talking about the Minnesota Vikings, and I'm not sure people actually believe in the Minnesota Vikings. It's funny because you are what your record says you are in the NFL, and yet people still ask the question, are these teams for real? Minnesota has Arizona at U.S. Bank Stadium coming up on Sunday.

We've got a bunch of QB news that we're going to do. We'll have an AFC version, and we'll also run through the NFC. But Jay, I'm thinking this is crazy, but the Giants and the Seahawks might be one of our candidates for Game of the Week. The New York Giants don't look now, but they're six-and-one. And Seattle is the only team with a winning record in the NFC West, which also blows me away. I think it's got to be in contention, right? Two of the hottest teams in football, as we speak. And maybe Green Bay and Buffalo isn't the game of the week because people are a little bit leery that the Packers are going to lose 54-13.

That's a distinct possibility. I think whether the Packers are double-digit underdogs in this game, actually. For the first time since Aaron Rodgers became their quarterback.

It's taking place in Orchard Park, so it does not surprise me. And the Bills, aren't they coming off a bye as well? They're also coming off a bye, which means they're rested, and they've had multiple weeks to play.

Oh, dear, it could be bad. Sunday Night Football. I hope they have plenty of prep. They're going to trot out their prep. But I don't know that it'll be like it was, let's see, going back to the game when Kenny Pickett started for the first time, and it was the Steelers at the Bills, and it was 35-3 at halftime or something like that. I don't know that it'll be that bad, but I don't have much faith in the Green Bay offense, nor do Aaron Rodgers and Matt LaFleur right now have a whole lot of faith in Green Bay.

In fact, this is their come to Jesus week, and it's leading them right into Buffalo's path. So that will probably be in our poll, but I don't know if people actually want to see that on national TV. Maybe I'll take a nap. You want to take a nap instead?

Always. I'm kidding. I know, but just no, don't start that rumor. So I'm thinking, though, if we go off the beaten path, I don't think Cincinnati and Cleveland.

Let's go process of elimination. So Baltimore and Tampa Bay, that's Thursday, so it won't be part of the poll. No Cincinnati and Cleveland on Monday night, though it is an AFC North battle, but you know how these Monday night games tend to go. Boomer Esiason is going to be on with Peyton and Eli. I heard that.

I cannot freaking wait. I texted boom and I was like, oh my gosh, I'm not going to miss the second course. Then I was like, I love Peyton Eli. Oh, but I love you too, Booms. You're my favorite. Yeah. Yeah. Yes.

No. Anyway, he laughed at that. So I'm telling you what, the reason you want to watch Cincinnati and Cleveland is because of the Monday night mainings and Boomer gets to be on the show.

He was already worried about whether or not he had a clear Zoom signal and if it was good audio and he actually, here's the funny part. He doesn't like that show. He doesn't watch it. He feels like it's too distracting from the actual football. It's a little fair. It is fair, but it's also highly entertaining when the game sucks.

Oh, absolutely. It saves Monday night football sometimes. So anyway, we're so excited that our buddy Boomer will be on with Peyton and Eli on Monday night, but I'm totally jealous of course.

I would never get invited to that show, but oh my gosh, that would be phenomenal. Do we know when he'll be on yet? I do not know that. I just know because it's the Bengals and that's obviously the team that he played for when he went to the Super Bowl. So that will be in our poll. Let's say Denver Jacksonville. That's in London. Poor London. Poor London is right.

Maybe Jacksonville will end its losing skit at Wembley Stadium. Wait till you hear what Russell Wilson had to say about the plane flight over to London. Is he for real? That's the question that people should ask. Is he for real? I want to take him at face value, but I don't know how. I think everything he says is 100% real. I really do. Do you think I'm for real? Yeah. Because there are people who think there's no way that this is really me, but I don't have time to pretend to be someone else. So I get it. We don't always identify with other people and relate to other people, but I have a hard time relating to him for a bazillion reasons.

He paid $25 million for a house. There's that. But yeah.

Okay. So no Denver Jacksonville, Carolina, Atlanta, thumbs up or thumbs down, Jay, give that one of thumbs down probably Chicago, Dallas. It's interesting because Chicago did show us something on Monday Night Football this week, but I got to hear the other ones.

Wait until you hear what Micah Parsons had to say about trying to track down Justin Fields. That was good stuff. So Miami at Detroit, Arizona, Minnesota. It's okay. That's okay. You know, it'll never win, right? No, that will never win. It'll never win. Game of the week. It's a filler. Don't say that.

Oh my goodness. That could end up being a Super Bowl champion. And actually we're going to be in Glendale at the home of the Cardinals for the Super Bowl. Las Vegas at New Orleans. We know Andy Dalton will be starting in that one. Josh Jacobs is a beast. He could have a field day in the Superdome. Alvin Kamara gave the Saints a pep talk. So we'll get to that as well. Are we going to put Patriots jets in there?

It's a pretty good game. Oh, not if the Patriots don't play better than they did on Monday night. Oh right. But the vision game in New York coming off that loss, especially Belichick's not gonna let that happen again. I don't think.

Mack Jones is starting and you'll hear from Mack in our AFC edition of QB news, Pittsburgh at Philadelphia. It looks better than it is. It's juicy. Yes. It's juicy in name only.

Right. Like on paper, it looks like, oh wow, that's a pretty cool matchup. But the Steelers aren't any good. Tennessee at Houston.

I didn't have anything to add to that. Tennessee at Houston. This could be the fifth straight win for the Titans.

I'm telling you, don't reinvent the wheel. Run the freaking ball. You have Derek Henry run the ball. That's all you have to do and then play strong defense. However, I'll have to take Robert Woods off my starting lineup for my fantasy team because he's not getting a whole lot of of play right now.

Washington at Indianapolis. It's Sam. Ellinger's first start. Yeah. It's something. You should see Jay's face.

I have to be subjected to Jay's faces, so I sometimes have to choke out, choke down my laughter. Let's see. San Francisco at LA for sure. Yeah.

That's in there. Repeat of the NFC championship. New York at Seattle. I'm telling you. It's looking good.

It is. It's a game between two winning teams, two, well, not first place because the Eagles are in first place. Green Bay at Buffalo. So I'm thinking those three, San Fran at LA, New York at Seattle, Green Bay at Buffalo, but we need one more. Chicago at Dallas.

Chicago at Dallas. No, no, no. We're going to go to England, New York, right? Oh, right.

I do like that one. New York teams. Hold on. Hold on. I was just about to say the same thing. How, how can we put two New York teams in our Game of the Week poll?

When the hell has that, it's never happened since I've been sitting in this chair. What year is this? The two New York teams have been hideous for most of the 10 years that I have been with CBS Sports Radio. It's a new age.

It's a new era. Whoa. It's, I mean, they're the two, two of the hottest teams in football. Whoa. That's yeah.

You're right. Which is why James Robinson was raving about going from a two and five team to a five and two New York Jets teams. Same number of wins as the Bills. Oh my God.

What is happening this year in the NFL? I don't think I've ever heard a player be excited to be traded to the Jets. I'm not even joking.

That's true. I wonder if Elijah Morris changed his tune about wanting to be traded out. You be careful what you wish for, Elijah, because you may end up on a one and five team or a one.

No, the Detroit already had it's by a one in five team. You just be careful what you're asking for. Do you know what you're acting acting? I made that word up. Do you know what you're asking? Axon there.

That's what I was trying to do. It didn't really work. Okay. Your host is not so funny. It's after hours with Amy Lawrence on CBS Sports Radio. Oh, we are funny in our latest YouTube video.

It's the latest episode in our Stairway to Seven series. It's all about Halloween candy, but there's a star fruit. That's all I'm going to say. You're going to have to go check it out. So the link is up on Twitter, Alaw Radio.

It's pinned to the top of our Facebook page. And many of you are already responding. It's funny. I can tell when people have watched it and when they haven't watched it, would I have to read you this one comment about my favorite, uh, my favorite, uh, Halloween candy. Candy corn is Amy's. Okay. Clearly you did not watch the video. Did we even remotely reference or mention or think about candy corn?

No, that's like the lamest guess I've ever heard. It's so gross. It's so gross. All right. It's all right. No, it's gross. I mean, I don't want to, I'm not going to die on that hill, but it's okay.

I mean, no, but it's not even tasty sugar. It's, it's all right. I think I, you know, I'll pass on it, but once in a while, like on an October day, I'll take a handful of candy. Okay. We look like candy corn actually because of what we're wearing good, like put us together and we'd look like a candy corn sideways, you know? Absolutely.

All right. So it was in honor of national pumpkin day and Halloween. It's one of the two videos we're going to share with you this week.

We've got a double feature actually, like you're going to the drive-in movies, featuring a gorgeous piece of fruit and candy. And so this is our stairway to seven series on YouTube. The thumbnail's awful. Please do not be afraid of the video because of the thumbnail. Jay, Jay always looks fine in the thumbnail. I look like an idiot in the thumbnail. I like the thumbnail, but there was only, it only gives you a couple options. Was there not a better one of my face? Well, I, I couldn't do the other ones because it would have revealed too much of the video in the thumbnail. Meaning the star of the show would have already been uncovered.

Exactly. Oh, so you chose to put a thumbnail up where my face looks distended. That was YouTube's decision. They, they gave me that option. They liked that picture. They thought it fit their algorithm. They don't like that picture.

They liked it. Oh, I, I look like a, I look like a, I don't know what I look like, I look like something's wrong with my face. I don't, I disagree. I looked, it's because you have to, you work with me. I look, I look like something's wrong with my face. Like I'm stuck in this weird position. And just the whole thing is blah anyway. So please watch the video despite the fact that the thumbnail is awful and is literally the worst moment that they could have posted.

So whether it's on Twitter or Facebook, or you can go straight to our YouTube channel after hours with Amy Lawrence. So we're going to do a little baseball coming up next, but here's the crazy part. I work in this business and I forgot multiple times this week that we haven't crowned a world series champion yet. Seriously.

Jay, actually, wait, what did you say to me earlier? You use that. I forgot all about baseball.

Yeah. I mean, it's just haven't really, hasn't been in my mind since you know, days all week really in sports, out of sight, out of mind. That's how quickly the news cycle spins and they just, they, I know they had to leave time for games five, six, and seven in the ALCS if necessary. And obviously game six and seven, which would have been back in San Diego had the Padres pushed the Phillies past game five, but it just, oh, baseball sometimes sucks. And already the ratings were way down for the league championship series.

They're actually not good. I'm hoping there's a bump here, people rooting against the Astros want to see them lose. Phillies got a passionate fan base for better or for worse, and certainly a major city on the East coast.

I'm hoping that we'll see a bump. It's just any momentum they had from the Astros sweeping and people being so ticked off that Houston's back in the world series or the Phillies. And it's been a dynamic and dramatic run that eighth inning home run by Bryce Harper. I mean, all of that, it just crashed and burned cause it's been, it'll be almost a week by the time we get back to baseball and there's so much that's happened since then. We do not yet have any fresh audio from the Astros. I believe they are scheduled to speak on Thursday, but Rob Thompson has revealed his first two starters and has also spoken about facing the Astros and the extra incentive to take on Houston in the world series. So we'll do a little baseball.

Plus we now know the fate of one Aaron Boone after the Astros sweep the Yankees in the ALCS. And then at the back of the hour, QB news, which one AFC or NFC, Jay, AFC to start, AFC to start producer, Jay, he's the ball football season is here. They want you to judge. Brown ball, weakly hit. Presley has it. Jocks part of the way in the first. Underhand, so you'll be inside. Starts front of the news. The Houston Astros break out the rooms in the Bronx and they're headed back to the World Series for the fourth time in six years. Your 2022 American League champions, Houston Astros. Suarez kicks. Here's the bench. Breaking ball.

Popped up. Shadow right. Segura going out. Castellanos coming on.

Castellanos has it. And the Phillies have the National League Championship. They have beaten the Padres four to three and they celebrate on their home turf as the Phillies are the 2022 NL Champs.

This is After Hours with Amy Lawrence. First you hear the final call of the ALCS, the Astros sweeping the Yankees, Robert Ford and Steve Sparks on Astros radio, one of our favorite tandems. And then on Phillies radio, we've heard Scott Fransky, Tom McCarthy as well. The Phillies with that dramatic eighth inning home run in game five against the Padres.

They moved to the World Series and win the National League pennant for the first time since 2009. After Hours here on CBS Sports radio and we know that Justin Verlander will start game number one, even though it's not officially listed on any of the schedules for the World Series Friday, game one, Saturday, game two. And we also now know the two starters for the Phillies in Houston.

So they do a two, three, two format and it will be Aaron Nola who had a phenomenal run late in the regular season, even early in the playoffs. His brother who started that big rally against him in game number, was it two? Game number two that the Padres won.

They were down for nothing and then they came back and won that game in San Diego. And even the series at that point, the series was one, one. But then the Phillies ended up winning games three, four and five at home. But that was really the roughest start for Aaron going back, gosh, weeks. He was instrumental in the Phillies locking up the last wild card in the national league. So it will be Aaron Nola in game one, Zach Wheeler in game two. The way they've pitched recently has been lights out a huge key to their late season surge and becoming that third team from the NL East to make the playoffs.

And we've seen this not that long ago. Well, of course, the Braves from the NL East are the, are the defending, we're the defense, are the defending for another couple of days. They are the defending World Series champions, but they were always a big dog and they had run into the Dodgers a couple of times, but they were playing from a position of strength. They were not like the Nationals in 2019 who barely got into the playoffs. That story with Washington, the way they faced elimination a dozen times in the playoffs before they ended up winning the World Series, that story is much more like what the Phillies are doing now because they've been playing on the edge.

They've been near extinction, ha ha, going back now for months and they had to fight out of a hole. They even changed managers to Rob Thompson. And so for them to be in this position is so improbable and unlikely. And yet we saw it with the Nationals in that same NL East division in 2019. Now let's hope the Phillies don't end up in the same place the Nationals have since then because it has been rough since they won that World Series in 2019. It's funny because I think most of the world who plans to watch that, that sounds like I mean the whole world's going to watch baseball, probably not. But most of the, the world of this kind of the baseball, just I got all kinds of awkward baseball fandom, those who will be watching the World Series there, see, that's all I get to say.

I get way too complicated. Thank you, Jay. There will be some casual fans because it is a World Series, but I don't know how many. But those who are watching, there is some motivation to see the Astros go down in a, you know, in a ball of flames. There is some motivation to see the Astros get beat and to get beat handily if that is the case.

But Rob Thompson couldn't care less and I appreciate his honesty. It has nothing to do with facing the Astros. That's not just the Astros. I think we're constantly looking at our pitchers, our infielders, our catchers as to are they ever giving something away, whether it's pitches, whether it's location, that type of thing. And for me personally, there's no extra motivation just because of that to beat the Astros. I just want to win a World Series.

Always evaluating, always looking for an edge, always trying to find a move here or an adjustment or a tweak there that could give them that added advantage. The Astros are a juggernaut, let's be honest. They were 50 games above 500 this year. And the only reason they flew under the radar is because, and they easily bypassed the Yankees as the best team in the American League, but they flew under the radar because they didn't have some big dramatic high profile story playing out like Aaron Judge chasing the American League home run record, or Albert Pujols, Yachty or Molina, the end of their careers with St. Louis. And then of course Yachty, excuse me, Albert, well in Yachty too, he's part of it, but Albert chasing 700 home runs. Still my absolute favorite story of this baseball season.

It's such a bummer that we won't see him again until his Hall of Fame induction. But when it comes to this series, you've got a big bad in Houston, a team that has not yet lost in this playoff run, which is crazy, right? Because you're talking about some real hot teams that they ran into. And yet here are the Phillies who have taken on every challenge and they've done it in heart stopping fashion, which is amazing, right? They already knocked out the world series champs, the Atlanta Braves in the division series and they did that by winning both their games at home. If I'm not mistaken, the Phillies haven't lost at home since this playoff run started. They were on the road for the wild card, right? So they did not play, they had to just to play two games in the wild card.

And so they did not play at home because they were the last team in, but then split the two games in Atlanta, won the two games in Philadelphia, split the two games in San Diego, won the three in Philadelphia. So they are five and oh, if they can take one game in Houston, where the Astros are really good, well, then to get that series back to their own park, Citizens Bank Park would be massive. And you know how it goes in baseball. Some people don't love this format, but the two, three, two does actually give you that home field advantage.

If you can steal one on the road, that's tough to do because you're talking about the two hottest teams still remaining. Bob Thompson and the Philadelphia Phillies have the unenviable task of facing Justin Verlander on the mound in the opener. I think you approach it like any other guy, you know, can't think of him as like a future Hall of Famer. I think he's another pitcher and you figure out what he's doing and how he's going to attack you.

And then, and then you go to work on him. Vince had some blow up games in his last, say eight postseason starts. I know this has been a resurgent year for him, and it's obvious that he's one of the best pitchers of this generation. But going back to their loss in last year's World Series, he's not been lights out. And even his first start in this playoffs, he said it was a tweaked calf, but he was chased pretty early and gave up a bunch of runs. It turned out that the Astros came back, wasn't that the Ordan Alvarez walk off? So he was not the pitcher of record, but he got blown up earlier in that game and said that his mechanics were off because he was dealing with a calf tweak. But those numbers lined up more with what we saw from him last year. Not last year, sorry, the year before he was out last year in the playoffs.

So we'll see. Are we going to get the Justin Verlander that we're accustomed to in the postseason or are we going to get the guy who in the more recent years, the more recent playoff starts, they've been able to figure him out. I love this answer from Rob Thompson, the manager of the Phillies.

For good reason, whenever you get to a championship round or a championship series, a lot of players, and I've interviewed so many of them after the fact, even they'll admit it. There's so much that you have to deal with because every single friend that you have, high school classmates you haven't heard from in 40 years. Okay. Not 40. They're not that old, but years, guys, guys and gals that you don't even have a relationship with anymore. You don't know how they got your number. They'll reach out to you on social media if they have to asking for tickets.

Hey, remember me, la, la, la. Everybody's asking for favors and then there are the demands on your time. There are interview requests, not just from your standard media, but from other outlets. It becomes so much to handle when you're one of the last two teams standing. So how do you deal with outside distractions? Me personally, I have a wife that knows how to say no and she's very organized, so I have a lot of help. Now I don't know about the other guys, but my wife's pretty good at it. Oh, I would be so good at that.

Not that I ever would want to marry an athlete, but I would be so tremendously good at being like negative ghost rider. Nope. Only so many. What are we doing with them? Just leave my husband alone. I'm the gatekeeper here. Negative.

Actually, that would be kind of fun. So good for him. I'm glad he's got a wife who's taking care of him and she must be really excited and proud for him too.

Because this is potentially a career defining moment and I would assume that the Phillies are completely, well, he got a contract, didn't he? I'm going to have to go back and look because it was not that long ago. See Rob. Oh, I typed in rib. That's not going to get me where I did the same thing just now. That's so strange. You typed in rib. I was typing Rob and I typed in rib.

How did you do? I think I got the McRib on my mind because it's going out of business or it's going extinct. That's funny.

Okay. So he's Canadian, which I did not know. And he took over for Joe Girardi and things really changed, of course, because for Rob Thompson, he wanted them to just be loose. He wanted them to enjoy the experience and he felt like they could perform better when they were loose. That was the major change when they went from Joe Girardi, who of course came out of the Yankees organization.

So it's much more professional and buttoned up. But yeah, Thompson, Thompson got a, I know he got a contract. He's a baseball lifer, took over on June 3rd, and I don't know why I can't find the terms of his contract. Two years.

Thank you. I guess the money doesn't matter because it's all money that most of us can't really identify with. But good for Rob Thompson. I'm glad they've committed to him.

He doesn't have to answer questions about whether or not he's going to keep the job in Philadelphia. And certainly he's been really good. The perfect pairing of those Phillies and Rob Thompson, and you got to love it when a guy has spent his life in a sport or in a business. And finally the door opens and the sun shines down and oh, it all comes together so perfectly and you get to be a part of it.

It's really a reward and validation for all the years that you spent working in anonymity, right? Just such a cool story. Not quite like Brian Snicker, but close and Dusty Baker. I want Dusty Baker to get a ring.

I really do. Even if that means the Astros end up with another world series. So I haven't given it a lot of thought during this week. Baseball set us up that way. But Friday, Saturday, the games began at seven oh three, seven oh three, not seven oh four seven oh three Houston time, which is eight oh three Philadelphia time.

All right. Let's set up the AFC version per producer James of QB news to help you get set up for week eight. You are listening to the after hours podcast. Football season is here. Murray back to throw, and it is, is it lost, oh my goodness, it's on, DeAndre Hopkins, Joe Burrow back to throw, looking firing deep for Chase in the end zone, he's got it, touchdown, Joe Burrow in the back goal. LaHomes fires for the end zone, touchdown, Kansas City. And off the back door again, no, Herbert keeps it, end zone, touchdown, charges. Herbert with his second of the day.

Here's the snap. Josh, going to keep it himself and run it again inside the five, into the end zone, touchdown Buffalo. Josh Allen, nine yard touchdown run, the Bills respond and then some. It's time for QB news on After Hours. It's that time of the week again. Are you ready for some week eight prep?

OMG, how is that possible? Forget week eight. How about the fact that we're staring at the last weekend of October? It's After Hours with Amy Lawrence on CBS Sports Radio. Let's go AFC version of the QB news that you need to get ready for the weekend. Bill Belichick, I've told you a bazillion times, he operates on a need to know basis and he never believes that we need to know, but it's just funny to hear him emphasize and underscore that point over and over again before practice on Wednesday. He was asked repeatedly by the media, who will start?

Will it be Mac Jones, will it be Bailey Zappi against the Jets? Look, we're not doing anything here. We haven't practiced. We're going to go out and we're going to see how it goes today, all right? What will you decide? It will see how it goes today. But what are you going to see today?

We'll see how it goes today. I'm sorry, I shouldn't laugh because it encourages him. You know, Aaron Rodgers wants to be Bill Belichick when it comes to press conferences someday. Jack Jones has no problem with the way that Bill Belichick communicates because he's on the inside.

But here's the funny part. They actually didn't find out who was starting until Monday. So I guess Mac is not necessarily in the category of you need to know, but he's happy to wait until Belichick tells him what's going on. He's done a good job, you know, being very open with me and I think that's the important part and that's all you can ask for, right, is just clear communication and going out there and putting all the other, you know, rap poison away and playing as best I can play and become the best quarterback that I can beat. He got that from Bill Belichick or Nick, oh, actually, you know where he got that from? Nick Saban. He's an Alabama product. Nick Saban loves to talk about rap poison. He absolutely got that from the Alabama head coach. Oh my gosh. I mean, he's putting all the other, you know, rap poison away and he said that communication is all you can ask for.

Well, you can ask for it, but the media can't because we're definitely not getting it from Bill Belichick. I really can't control that. Jones does believe he's starting on Sunday. The reports are that he will be starting on Sunday. I plan to start every game that I've ever played in. So whether that was, you know, in Pee Wee football or third string in Alabama, I always try to prepare as a starter and, you know, like I always say, if it's one snap or 70, I'll be ready to go. And that's all you can do, right? You can't really control anything else. And, you know, I work really hard and put myself in position to do that.

And yes, I think I deserve that. I do think he's the better option for the Patriots. According to Tom Curran, who's a Pats insider for years, this is not a quarterback controversy. Bailey Zappi's not threatening Mac's job. And Mac was never going to play the entire game against the Bears. According to Tom, who appeared on the Dan Patrick show this week, really the only reason that Mac played is because he campaigned for it with Bill and Bill allowed him to go out there and play.

But he was never going to be on that ankle for the entire game. There are other reports out there, those who watched practice on Wednesdays. Remember, we heard from Bill before practice. After practice, the reports were Mac took 90% of the reps with the first team and is expected to start against the Jets in week number eight.

It's after hours here on CBS Sports Radio. There's no mystery for the Indianapolis Colts. The veteran Matt Ryan has been benched.

Now he does have a separated shoulder, but that's not the reason why the Colts are going to the unproven Sam Ellinger. Matt spoke to the media and answered the questions about getting benched on Wednesday. Individually and personally disappointed, you know, as a player, as a competitor, you want to be out there.

You want to go. And so it's part of the deal in this league, you've got to produce and you've got to go out there and play and, you know, frustrated that we weren't able to do that in the first seven games, but, you know, you move forward, you know, life in this league is week to week and the production has to be there. So obviously disappointed personally, but here for the team. Matt's only missed three starts his entire career. He's never been a backup. So it's a different role for him as a backup. It's just one injury, one hit, one wobble, and he would be back on the field. So he needs to be ready.

Also I think Nick Foles is backing up Sam this week because Matt does have the separated shoulder to deal with. As for Sam Ellinger, he brings mobility. He brings energy. He's going to move around in this offense behind what's been a porous offensive line. And obviously he's thrilled.

He'll get to take his first ever, well first ever throws in the NFL. I'm excited. You know, I think as I've told you guys, you know, I'm always preparing to be the starter. And regardless of when that opportunity was going to come, I was going to be ready and do what I could to be prepared.

And that's alleviated a lot of the stress of, I mean, I can't imagine if I weren't preparing the way that I was. And it's like, Hey, you're up. And that's the thing about this business.

So I'm staying on top of it. Obviously there's a lot of excitement for the opportunity and just going to take it one day at a time. I like that Sam approaches it that way because there are backup quarterbacks who are not ready. I'm going to back up QBs and I won't go through a list of names that were called on and screwed up the opportunity because they were not ready to go.

And they were not preparing as though they could be forced into the game at any point. Sam Ellinger, first career start for the Colts this weekend. I do not know whether this will be a game that you highlight on your schedule, but it's Colts against the commanders as Taylor Heineke will make another start for Ron Rivera. It's after hours on CBS sports radio, Sunday schedule kicks off with the Broncos in London against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

I'm so sorry, Wembley stadium, but maybe this will turn around the Jaguars, Russell Wilson. He's been dealing with the hammy injury. He didn't play last week, but he believes he'll be ready to go Sunday morning.

I feel great. I'm ready to, ready to roll. Um, you know, I'm super locked in and ready to, uh, hopefully get a big win in London. Obviously, uh, this would be a key game for us. It's a really good football team we're playing. I think both of our records don't necessarily represent who we are.

Well, actually in the NFL, you are what your record says you are. So how did you spend that time on the flight to London? I don't really get jet lag too often. You know, I don't, I don't really, um, you know, I've traveled enough to, to get, you know, kind of get my system down, but yeah, for me, I was on the plane first two hours. I was, uh, first two hours by eight was eight hours flight here as the first two hours. I was watching the film, watching all the cutups and everything else. And then for the next four hours, I was doing treatment on the plane. I was walking up and down the aisles. Everybody was knocked out. I was doing high knees and work on the legs and everything else, you know, make sure I'm ready to rock on a plane. So that was good. And then the last two hours of the last hour of that, I watched, I fell asleep for one hour and I watched the film the rest.

Okay. So I mean, I wish I could sleep on planes. I'm jealous of the other Broncos.

I cannot, but I can tell you one thing I've never done on a plane that's high knees over other people who are sleeping. He is unique. I will say that he's a unique cat. So yeah, we'll hear from Trevor Lawrence on our Thursday edition of QB news, but yes, Denver and Jacksonville, they are playing in London early, early. It's a quadruple header on Sunday, Josh Allen and the Buffalo bills host the green Bay Packers. And even though they're coming off a buy, they're fresh, they're chomping at the bit because Josh says this bill's team, it's special. There's lots of like, you know, I love how this team is gelled together, how we interact with each other, the communication that we have in the locker room and on the football field. You know, I think it's a bond in our locker room that's second to none in the league. Guys care about each other.

They care about doing their jobs. We got true professional football players here and it's an awesome environment to be around. I'm excited for this game. I hope the Packers show up week eight starts with Thursday night football and Amazon prime.

The Ravens at the Buccaneers, Buccaneers desperately need a win. Tom Brady's been talking about ownership all week. Well, John Harbaugh and Lamar Jackson, you know, they have the distinct pleasure of taking on the Bucks and Brady Tom Brady, you know, it's the same style and the same, the same basic kind of an offense that he's run over the years and it'd be a big challenge for those me to go, man, and like you said, you know, I'm always playing against the defense, not the quarterback. So I'm going to every game the same way, same mentality.

Just want to go out there and do what I supposed to do to win. I do say that a lot. I can't stand it when we talk about a battle of quarterbacks or these two quarterbacks facing each other because that's ridiculous. If Tom Brady plays defense, I will be stunned. I don't think they want him out there on the defensive side of the ball no matter how bad it gets. And as fast as Lamar is, they also don't want him taking snaps when Brady is on the field.

So that's one of those things. It's one of those pet peeves of mine when it comes to sports that and QB wins. What if the Baltimore defense picks off Tom Brady a bunch or what if the Buccaneers defense holds that Baltimore run game at bay and it has really nothing to do with Tom Brady. Now that would be a problem because they cannot win a title if Brady and the offense don't snap out of it. I'm just saying sometimes it's not about the quarterbacks and I don't want to see them playing defense because for heaven's sakes, they're already wrapped up in protective gear bubble wrap, if you will. So we don't need them playing defense as well.

Could you imagine the roughing the defender calls that we would get unnecessary roughness? It's after hours with Amy Lawrence on CBS for Tradio football season is here.
