It is a wonder that we make it here without melting. I know this is not a dire issue and a major problem, but I have thought about it. What if, what if, when I'm using the elevator to come up to the 10th floor in our building in lower Manhattan, which is where our network studios are located, what if that elevator that we ride every night and again in the morning on our way out somehow breaks down and we're stuck in there without air condition? Am I the only one that is nearly melting in the, what is it, five minute ride? Okay, it's not five minutes. The two minute ride, because it takes a minute for the elevator to get started.

Ryan knows, he's nodding. Why in the world do they not put AC in the elevators? What if something goes wrong? It is so hot and steamy in there, it feels like a sauna and I'm not claustrophobic, but I could see being claustrophobic if the elevator somehow got stuck between floors and you were in there attempting to breathe and just feeling as though the walls are closing in in that humidity. Oh, so why don't they air condition the elevators?

Is it, is it really difficult to do? We're just a very, very bad building at saving energy. If you, have you read the grade?

We have like a B grade, like a 79 on the 100 scale and saving power and energy. Where did you find that? It was on the glass door we enter.

It's always there, it's in the bottom. Oh, I didn't have any idea that buildings were rated on their ability to conserve energy. Interesting.

The things you learned from 23 year olds. Wow. You're going to have to show me where that is.

Well, I know, but I've never read it. That's it. I didn't realize buildings had conserve energy ratings either way.

Okay. So right. And I have had this conversation because what's happening right now after for me, 11 and a half years of coming in the front door of the building, the lobby's certainly gone through a bit of a facelift, but after 11 and a half years, they're doing construction. In fact, most of the building, the public spaces are being gutted. They did the construction in the back of the building, and now they're doing it in the front. But in order to do all the construction they want to do, they have to completely shut down the entrance. So we are now being funneled all of us through the back entrance. We have to snake our way through the building and I'm not kidding. It's maybe 10 turns that you have to get to, to, to get through the building and to the elevators, which are in the front. But like I said, we can't use the front entrance. We have to use the back.

So Ryan said to me that he thinks it's creepy, which I hadn't thought about until he said that. And now they have all these false walls up. They're essentially on stands, right? So they're big wooden platforms with this very, very modern mural type of feel to it. And they are supposed to make you feel as though you're in this incredible space where there's lots of windows and people enjoy being there. And yeah, they're essentially just, they're paintings though. They're murals and they are up on wooden feet. They're not the actual walls. They're up on wooden feet. So they're false fronts. And Ryan pointed out to me that it's creepy because there could be people hiding behind there.

So great. Now I'm freaked out when I walk by those wooden murals and, and it's not air conditioned. The air conditioning is the worst part though. And, and that, and as I noticed walking through a couple hours ago, it smells like an animal died behind the wooden murals.

And so now you have the heat and the humidity and we're in the dead of summer. The fact that it's creepy and there could be some scary person hiding behind the murals, ready to jump out at any point. So I'm definitely not wearing headphones. I don't know if you guys are wearing headphones when you're walking through, but I wouldn't, if I were you, you need that extra couple seconds to be turning around to go, hi-yah!

Like, you know, the, the neck, the neck chop anyway, or, or the kick to the midsection. So you need to be aware and on your toes at all times, but also it's not air conditioned. Well, I don't understand why. Do you think it's air conditioned in the daytime when there is far more foot traffic?

Definitely not. It smells like paint. It smells nasty paint. I think it smells like a small animal crawl back in there and, and never came out. And then also they have fans set up outside the hallway. So the air is being blown in and trapped there.

All it's doing is blowing around the hot air. Right. It's so it's, it's a great scene that I asked a colleague recently, how long is this going to go on?

And she said, oh, I think about a year, a year, a year. I'm going to find a new job between now and then. I'm not going to do that for a year, but yes, there's just one security guard in the lobby. And I don't know that he would hear us if we yelled really loudly.

Plus Ryan, the elevator is now on the complete opposite side of the building from the security guard. So if we get stuck in the elevator and start to melt and there's no hope for us, because no one can hear us screaming at the top of our lungs, what are we to do? Nothing. That's not hopeful at all or helpful.

Just accept defeat. Nothing. Carlos, be careful as you leave the building. It's a little bit disturbing is all we're saying. The fact that there's no AC, there's no real security guards outside of that initial entryway. And yeah. And if you are to yell or scream or deliver a scissor kick to the throat, then you're so far away from the back entrance that, that you help is not on the way.

I watched too many crime dramas. I know, but help is not on the way. Right. Let's hope the elevators continue running. They're not a part of the construction zone. And then the first day we had construction, I was here for the morning, but the elevator pad wasn't working.

So security guard had to know, bring us through a different entrance, through the loading dock, through a separate back room to find the elevators. Yup. Yup. Yup. Yup. It's terrific. A year, a year negative ghost rider.

That's incentive to find a new gig or to start working from home. Hello. It's after hours with Amy Lawrence.

I hope that you had a terrific Tuesday. It's our hump show, middle show of the work week. And I have another question for Ryan after he's already freaked me out with his talks of how creepy it is downstairs.

The mainstay of this show on the hump show, the mainstay, you ready? Is asking me anything, which I, I actually don't know if you've been a part of in the past. Thumbs up, thumbs down, thumbs up. You have? Did it once.

You posed the questions. How long ago is that? Had to be last year. February. It was like right at the Superbowl.

It was clearly very memorable. No, I just thought time blends. For me. It does. Oh, that's right. Because producer Jay got back from Vegas and then one day later took off on vacation.

Yes. It was something. Costa Rica. He went to something like that. It was Costa Rica.

And if I remember correctly, he told me after the fact. They had plans to do a bunch of hiking in the mountains and it was rainy season and it poured every day and you couldn't even really see because the fog was so thick that they ended up scrapping that and, and changing their plans and going to the beach, which is neither here nor there. So we did do ask Amy anything one time, apparently producer Ryan and I, and I had mostly decided to table it until we found a regular producer in part because we don't have the post up on social, but also in part because I don't know, I don't want to make a mockery of something that you all appreciate so well. So why don't we do what we did last week?

Now, last week, Ryan wasn't here, but you can help, right? I'm just going to throw it out there and see what kind of questions we get in return. People, if they're listening to the sound of my voice and they want to send a question in, they can do so.

We won't put a separate post up on social, but they can do so whether it's at a law radio or our show account at Amy after hours, or it's our Facebook page. And if you can hear me and you want to put a post up, terrific. If we get some questions, I'll answer them. If not, then I won't, or maybe I will put up a post.

We'll see. I guess I'll decide during the break, but we do have a lot to do. So I, I want to make sure that we have plenty of time. And like I said, I want it to be at least somewhat representative of our typical Ask Amy Anything, which has been running now for the better part of 11 years. So I'll consider, maybe we'll put a post up on our social, but our phone number is also 855-212-4227.

That's 855-212-4227. Let's see, what else do we have on the brain? Football, football, football, as you know, almost every NFL training camp is now in full swing. That means veterans and rookies. And so we're hearing from a lot of the different teams now as they do set up to, to what will be their next five weeks or so getting ready for the NFL season. I cannot believe that we're in the final days of July.

That is astounding to me. It blows me away, but yeah, we're gosh, sitting on just over a week until hall of fame game, the hall of fame game in Canton and hall of fame weekend. We're closing in on it fast. So don't panic. The summer isn't over, but you have about a month to go. So you better make the most of it. Goodness.

All right. So either on Twix or Facebook, you send us questions and we will try to find some time to answer them. We usually do that in the third hour of the week, third hour of the week, third hour of the show. There goes the perfect show here on the home show. Ryan just turned and laughed at that.

Whatever one of these days, I'll have a perfect show, or you can call them in directly to Ryan 8 5 5 2 1 2 4 2 2 7. So we've got everything from the NFC West with the San Francisco 49ers and the Los Angeles Rams to the Patriots, who've got maybe the most high profile coaching change in sports this year from Bill Belichick to Jerrod Mayo, one of his players and one of his assistant coaches. I like hearing from Jordan Poirier.

Now I'm a Jordan Poirier fan myself, a big fan of his game. Love the role he played with the Bills for years, but what an interesting perspective. After leaving the Bills and ending up with the Dolphins, we hear what the Bills really thought of the Dolphins behind the scenes and behind closed doors.

But now he's a part of the Dolphins and maybe can help get them where they want to go by bringing a veteran presence and a winning presence to their roster and to their locker room. There's quarterback battles all over the place. Think about all the different teams that drafted rookie QBs. So in most of those cases, not the Bears, they're going with Caleb Williams from the beginning, probably not the commanders, although I'm nervous about what happens as they reboot and start over again. But then from that point on, there's a bunch of rookie quarterbacks that are competing for jobs, I'm using my air quotations, competing for jobs.

We don't actually know if their teams want to throw them out there as rookies or would prefer to hold them back, but all will be revealed in good time. So yeah, lots of football for the hump show here on After Hours with Amy Lawrence. In addition, more Olympics prep. Now I loved hearing from so many of you, a wondrous variety of the sports that we have on tap coming up for these Paris games. Did you hear this? This is actually just a snippet. I've been doing some research, Ryan, because that's what happens in this business.

You have to do research. I've been doing some research about events and dates and athletes to watch simply because there's hundreds, well there's thousands of athletes, but hundreds from the United States and I wanted to kind of see, other than Simone Biles and other than Steph Curry who's making his Olympic debut, the easy ones like Diana Taurasi who's trying to win a sixth consecutive, well the US women are going for eight straight gold medals, but she's going for six which is unheard of and so there are some notable names that everyone will be paying attention to, but I was kind of looking for some other maybe off the beaten path storylines and what I discovered is that beach volleyball is going to be one of my favorite events to watch. It's in the shadow of the Eiffel Tower. They've built a beach volleyball court and the backdrop is the Eiffel Tower.

It's not that far from where the Eiffel Tower is located. But it's not the beach. Well that's true. So it's just sand volleyball.

Yes that is true. Why did you have to rain on my parade? I was all excited to share this with people and your initial reaction was better. Oh because it is cool. Yes. Also did you see the fact that the pieces of the Eiffel Tower are being put into the medals? So they're using like old metal from the Eiffel Tower and they're putting it in the gold medals or it's bronze and silver medals. Wow that's really neat. Let's see Ryan's done his research as well.

I had no idea. So yeah kind of fun to think about some of the different venues and we've confirmed it the surfing is in Tahiti which I think is uh pretty is maybe one of the more interesting wrinkles of these Paris games. We've also got baseball because things are happening. As we get closer to the trade deadline things the big things they're all happening. And we've got some rivalries this week which are a lot of fun in division. So Dodgers and Giants that will get you coming up. Also Subway Series.

I hesitate to call them rivals but Subway Series it's it's a manner of rivalry I suppose for fans in New York. And then straight ahead the return of Paul Skeens. Pushing the envelope going where no Paul Skeens start has gone before. So we'll dive right in to chart how fast the fastball was moving and we'd love to hear from you. Now before we get to our break did you see Joe Burrows new do?

If not go do some research. Come back after the break and we will talk. 855-212-4227 at A Law Radio or our show account at Amy After Hours. I guess Ryan if you want to put up a spot where people can send their questions on our show account.

And then our Facebook page as well. We're just getting started. We're going to usher in a Wednesday Your Hump Day Our Hump Show. It's After Hours with Amy Lawrence. You are listening to the After Hours Podcast.

This is After Hours with Amy Lawrence. We're waiting. We were waiting to see the phenom Paul Skeens get back on the mound after a start in the National League All-Star Roster. He was the one that they picked to come out there for an inning. And we did get to see him against Aaron Judge though it lasted just one pitch. So not enough of Paul Skeens probably for baseball fans.

He was back in action then on Tuesday night. It's After Hours with Amy Lawrence. Ryan continues to impress. He found our old clip art that we've been using for 11 years now. It's the Ask Amy Anything Thought Bubble. It's bright orange. Ryan brownie points if you know why the clip art is bright orange. Favorite color. Whose favorite color?

Yours? Yes orange. Orange is my favorite color.

Now see I have to give him brownie points. Orange is my favorite color. That's why the big old clip art box is orange. And I have asked various producer types in the past do you think we should change it? Do you think we should update it? No no no it's a throwback.

So we remain throwing back to the original. That one that one's more than 10 years ago. 10 years old when we first started it.

It was back when I was working weekends hosting Friday, Saturday, Sunday nights. And so it's up on Twix at Amy After Hours and once I log into our Facebook page then Ryan will post it there as well. We'll try this. We'll see how it goes. We didn't give you much of a heads up. Instead you're gonna have to work your magic in the next couple hours.

So yes Paul Skeens speaking of working magic. He and the Pirates were facing the St. Louis Cardinals. Even some Cardinals fans amazed at what they're seeing tonight from the Pirates rookie wonder. Here's the one two. Swing and a fly ball to left.

Deeply hit. Back out at Reynolds to the track. Makes the catch. Skeens has given up just two hits and one run over eight innings. Pretty terrific and remember the last time he started a game before the all-star break he went deeper than he'd ever been before. He pitched into the seventh inning or pitched the seven innings and so here they are stretching him out even more and he goes through eight innings and at that point now we were charting this out in the news we were watching a highlight package. He had only thrown 91 pitches. So he's through eight innings. He's thrown 91 pitches. He did give up a home run to Nolan Arenado and then the Pirates were able to answer themselves in the eighth inning and get an RBI single to tie the game. So that sent them to the ninth inning and lo and behold Paul Skeens runs back out to the mound. Now if you haven't heard the reaction from the Pirates fans there at PNC Park which is one of my best or one of my favorite parks in all of sports. My favorite baseball stadium to be sure. The fans went crazy. It was awesome.

It was awesome to hear. He is, don't yell at me, don't at me. He is a little bit like what Otani was to the Angels the last few years where despite the Angels for the most part not being a contender. Now they started out a couple of different seasons and maybe spiked a couple times during those seasons where they appeared as though they might be a contender and never could sustain it.

The Pirates are in fact above 500 but I don't know that you could call them a contender although it feels like pretty much everybody in the National League is alive for a wild card but it's Paul Skeens that will put butts in the seats. They show up to watch him regardless of whatever else is happening with the club. Who they're facing they want to see Paul and so when he ran back out there for the ninth inning it was as though they'd had a walk off of some sort. Also he lost his shoe at one point trying to do the old hop over the line on the way back to the dugout. He hopped right out of his shoe that was earlier in the game and so yes he got a ton of support even before he was out there for the ninth inning. There were fans who were going nutso and cheering him as a dare I say the three letters together MVP. It was awesome especially on a Tuesday night kind of just shows where we're at as a team where the city's at was really really cool.

Obviously wish I could have finished it but yeah it was a cool moment. The 0-2 pitch here for Alec Burleson a swing and there's a drive into right that's a hit Burleson drives in Siani on an 0-2 pitch Burleson gets a hit to right to put up the run against Paul Skeans. That's the call on Cardinals radio so it subdued the fans there in Pittsburgh a little bit but still pretty incredible to see Paul pitch into the ninth the ninth inning longest outing of his major league baseball career and gives up just the two runs though he does end up earning the loss because he's the pitcher of record. Cardinals double up the Pirates two to one of course the Cardinals they're trying to beef up their resume a little bit coming out of that all-star break and I think in this case as much as the Pirates end up with the loss more than that for them it's about knowing that Skeans is fully stretched out now I would say halfway through his rookie year maybe you're not worrying as much about an injury or especially not in the heat of the summer but an injury or putting too much on his shoulders too quickly the investment of course he's the number one overall draft pick he's still pretty young we talked about him a month ago or so we were talking about best athletes under the age of 24 he's 22 years old you got to be careful with an investment like that even if you are the Pirates and very rarely do you actually keep your top dynamic draft picks for for much longer than a few years but there's always going to be some trepidation early on we were talking about this with rookie quarterbacks you don't want to throw them out there before they're ready because what can happen well in in the case of football they can be like a deer in the headlights and get flattened by a pass rusher who can take advantage of the confusion behind the line or you know the the quarterback's just not ready for the speed that he'll encounter at the pro level well in the case of a pitcher maybe you don't have that type of concern at least you hope there's no contact or not much contact maybe now and then running to first base to cover the bag otherwise for a pitcher you're wanting to make sure that his arm is fully stretched out now remember these are college in his case just coming right out of college didn't do much of the minor league baseball and and so for him you're wanting to be sure that his arm is ready for the extensive workload this always happens when athletes go from college to pro you got to be careful how you work with them and then there's always something called the freshman wall or the rookie wall where an athlete is playing more games and spending more days at the sport specifically than they have at any point in the past and that's the case with skeins ninth inning for him at the major league level and what a performance it was you can imagine they're thrilled about it allows just four hits though one is the home run to nolan a couple of earned runs did strike out eight and still only 104 pitches and had i dare say had he not given up the run from the couple of hits there in the ninth we're talking about a complete game which would have been amazing well uh i guess not unless the pirates would have scored right because otherwise uh they they were not going to send him out for the tents it's the pirates come on hey you might need to change your opinion about the pirates is paul skeins changing opinions about the pirates no they have two hitters that are actually major league capable brian riles and o'neill cruise everybody else is bad you don't think andrew mccutcheon is a world-class hitter he's not world class anymore if it was 2012 2013 all right then well anyway paul skein still put butts in the seats and not like that i don't know why excuse me i have to get a drink talk amongst yourselves i have to call hi manny i mean garrett cole couldn't even get the the pirates to do anything when he was a pirate charlie morton garrett cole joe musgrove a whole bunch i don't know why i'm dying all of a sudden just had to cough i'm not sure why the pirates they get you ha ha so i say talk amongst yourselves and ryan does exactly that yeah just says hello does exactly that yeah just says hello man his ability follow instructions is amazing all right so that's why we love him pirates end up losing this one um and there wasn't a lot of run support which i can imagine as a rookie pitcher you want to be really careful how you answer a question about no run support there's less room for error for sure uh you look at that that uh that outing against the dodgers really scored seven in the first two i think um it's easier to pitch there and the goal there is more to give us length um because the margin for error is a lot greater margin for error isn't quite as big so just gotta execute pitches a little bit all right the only thing is the pirates actually out hit the cardinals in this game and did have seven guys left on base so right they they got a couple of table setters out there just weren't able to capitalize on the opportunities uh still skeans is worth the price of admission we were just talking about it last night your events or sports at the olympics that are must watch and isn't that what you would say about paul skeans his starts are becoming must watch into the ninth inning that's not even common for guys who've been in the league now for 10 years that's rare in major league baseball for the starter to go into the ninth inning i like it i like it he's a bit of a throwback at 22 plus the mustache there's very few pitchers that are marketable and he is one of the few you could say garrick cole because he's in new york but even still he's not you could ask him on the street who's garrick cole they would have no idea you say paul skeans like oh the person dating livy dune or it is done done wait can you go into our our drops folder i told you about the little kid oh yeah even a 12 year old he's a fifth grader and he well of course he was at a game so presumably he knew about paul skeans before he got to the game um but i love that ryan first says his girlfriend before he mentions the mustache is that is that what's more impressive the girlfriend than the mustache well she's more famous than him true she definitely is although she won't be for much longer if it's kind of talking about a power couple in sports though she's a national champion in gymnastics and he was the number one overall pick for the pirates and has started the all-star game i mean just makes makes you manny's rolling his eyes and nodding makes you wonder what we missed out on at 22 actually ryan's here ryan's already living the dream i need to go back it's over now ouch i unfortunately there's a wiffle ball bat somewhere in these studios and i unfortunately made the realization about a week ago at the unfortunate age of 27 that i might be a left-handed swinging bat did you say unfortunate age of 27 i mean again if i if i had known this information 15 years ago i probably wouldn't be sitting here i'd be you know hitting home runs yeah i'd be you know looking for the short porch at yankee stadium switch hitter i can just lefty you know what i might just go left-handed i mean i grew up playing baseball right-handed but again i just picked up the bat and just kind of swung left-handed and i thought to myself oh this feels a little bit more natural that's unfortunate it's a wiffle bat yeah but still it feels it just feels smoother for whatever reason i don't feel like i'm rolling over on my wrist we can get real technical about the the the how a swing should look like but i'm not going to bore anybody with that but it feels a lot more natural left side of the plate you thought maybe you could be ken griffey jr again but again i i noticed that about 15 16 years too late if i didn't get hurt if you get hurt you know a long time ago all right let's see i could have been the guy with the mustache with the gymnastics cheerleader she's not a cheerleader she's a gymnastic cheerleader what the with the gymnast with the national champion i heard that national champion gymnast excuse me gymnastics gymnastics cheerleaders gymnastics and cheerleaders are not the same thing so although i bet there are a lot of gymnasts who are also cheerleaders both very athletic not anymore yeah cheerleading is oh it's a competitive sport no these days no joke they have yeah there's no thank you i i do know that the competitions generally leave uh lots of bumps and bruises and i i think there are documentaries out there on netflix about what it means to be a competitive cheerleader these these competitions are crazy yeah there's a there's a what's it called i think it's called cheer on netflix something like that yeah it's like a whole a whole documentary almost like um well uh like last chance you almost it feel like it has that same vibe on netflix i'm a big fan of that last chance you i gotta watch cheer oh yeah the coach of last chance you was a guest on our show which one couple years ago the football or the basketball version football oh okay uh which one jason brown or yes oh yeah oh yeah he promised we had him on the air because he promised he would not drop any choice words yeah no he's a fan of those words i've been on his show and he dropped as many words as he wanted oh i'm sure he did i'm sure he did all right coming up we'll talk dodgers and giants dodgers about to get some reinforcements in the pitching realm which they desperately need and then we'll jump into some football as well as olympic prep after the top of the hour also going to welcome our friend michael duarte from nbc la just because it's been too long my goodness i looked back at the hours with amy lawrence the dodgers have won five in a row including the last two against the arch rival giants taking place in los angeles coming out of the all-star break and this is kind of an interesting line for otani as you hear there on dodger's radio otani goes two for five with three rbi and three strikeouts that's not easy to do i mean he's batting top of the order so he does he did have an extra at bat in there but two for five with three runs batted in and three k's it was either all or nothing for otani in this game and gavin lux who's hitting well coming out of the all-star break two for four with him also knocked in a couple of rbi and it's always good when they get the win i think just a lot of it mental approach um trying to be more aggressive uh get a good pitch ahead and the at bat there try not to get the two strikes and um i think overall just as the year goes on get more at bats feel more comfortable and um you know just kind of roll from there the second baseman right in the heart of that dodgers order and yes they are hitting better and now up to 61 wins which puts them at second best in the major leagues i think there are three teams in the al that have 60 wins right now and then you've got the phillies who are out in front uh in terms of winning percentage in most wins in baseball and then the dodgers kind of creeping they're at 61 wins that have stretched out that lead in the national league west so we'll talk to our friend michael j duarte in bc la he's coming up just after the top of the hour text me said he's walking the dog but we'll be ready when it's time to join us i haven't talked to him in a while it's been too long uh gavin lux by the way on what was the credit for gavin sportsnet la sportsnet la thank you rhymes after hours with amy lawrence if you want to send a question for ask amy anything we're just gonna try it we're gonna see what happens so you can send it uh either on twix at amy after hours uh facebook page two as ryan's put up the old familiar clip art from more than a decade ago sometimes i hear the production that we have here on the show the music and and some of the we'll call them original opens and rejoins which is how we return from a break and they're so old that i think at this point they're almost comical because they represent uh an age gone by here on after hours but i also would love to have some new imaging and some new production because it feels like it's it's outdated but that's a concern that we can't deal with at this point as we get closer and closer to football season and still need another full-time member of the team so it's gonna have to wait for a while back to the dodgers so the dodgers they're a team that has got one of the best run differentials in major league baseball and this is without looky bets actually but they only have one starting pitcher remaining from the rotation that they broke spring training with uh so gavin stone leads them in a bunch of categories they've run different rookies through there they are hoping to get reinforcements back this week we will ask michael about that as well now as for the complete opposite side of the country and the subway series the meds are an interesting story if they hadn't started in such a deep hole maybe just maybe they'd be a little closer to the top of the nl least although that is where the phillies reside braves are backpedaling a bit because of their injuries and some other challenges they're dealing with and so the meds are actually pulling closer to the braves they are above 500 now and one thing's for sure whether or not you believe in the meds they certainly have the yankees number tocken sets here's the pitch swinging a high fly ball well hit right center soto going back towards the track towards the wall has gone jeff mcneil a two-run homer into the yankees bullpen in right center field he's had the power stroke this week and he has just given the mitts a three to one lead two and two here's the pitch in there strike three called he throws him with a fastball jake deepman strikes out aaron judge looking two men away soto still at first the two-two pitch swinging a ground ball wide at second mcneil's got it set throws to first put it in the books what a character win for the new york meds tonight here at yankee stadium aren't they all howie rose on the uh the meds flagship here's something interesting about this game you weren't watching well you missed aaron judge walking four times because that was how they were able to get around him uh they did not want to give him an opportunity to hit really so they walked him in each of his first four plate appearances now the fourth time was on purpose um and every time left him stranded so if that's your strategy is will pitch to anybody else except for aaron judge it did work as the meds were able to hold off the yankees three to two and this one taking place at yankee stadium in the bronx and jeff mcneil all smiles after his big home run feel like i've been taking a lot of good at bats and um you know in a bat like that i'm just trying not to do too much trying to you know infield strong in so trying to get something i can i can elevate and uh sometimes pitchers are making good pitches and you know you don't get the right pitch to do it so you gotta you gotta battle fight and that's why i was able to be there if i'm aaron judge i am frustrated as all get out i get the strategy because so much of the rest of the yankees lineup is not performing the way that it's expected to or the way that it needs to but to be put on base four times whether intentionally or unintentionally intentionally just give you the chance to swing the bat that's where his teammates have to step up and make teams pay for that strategy that's not really too frustrating you know i wouldn't mind that day you know when it comes to the win so um it's part of it you know it's a team game you know even if i went four for four today you know we still might not win so just about if i get a pitch to hit i gotta do some damage on it the middle of the lineup struggling though behind aaron judge jd davis who struck out twice and went over uh ben rice who's the rookie he was in as a pinch hitter he goes over andrew volpe he ends up with a couple of hits and also scores one of the i'd say andrew sorry anthony volpe scores one of the runs glaber tores he ended up with a home run but yeah really the top half the yankees lineup did a whole lot of nothing even though aaron judge was there on base and waiting so the rest of the team has got to step up and make some changes to the game so the rest of the team has got to step up that's the whole idea now the mets are above 500 remaining active in that wild card race meanwhile the yankees sitting on 60 wins so not a bad place to be long way to go we're gonna flip back to the west coast next though and talk la sports it's after hours with amy
