The Bible says true peace is possible in this world, and points us to the answer in Jesus Christ. Through the prophet Isaiah, God promises to multiply the nation, increase joy, and bring liberation from oppression. The story of Gideon and the battle of Midian illustrates God's power and victory, and the promise of a great assembly of people from every tribe and nation celebrating God. The joy of the harvest and the joy of plunder are a result of God's intervention, and the yoke of burden and the staff of oppression are broken. The answer to our longings for peace and unity is found in Jesus Christ, who sets us free from our burdens, relieves us of our beatings, and vanquishes our tyrants.
