It is. The JR Sport Brief Show here with you on the Infinity Sports Network. 855-212-4227 is the number.
855-212-4227. That's if you want to call and talk to me. I appreciate you for listening up.
At work, at home, on the road, the highways, the byways, on vacation, in the front yard, the backyard, doing work, no work, doing something else. Thank you for listening. This show gets started every single weekday at 6 p.m. Eastern, 3 Pacific. So if you're on the West Coast, thank you. You're on the East Coast, thank you.
You're in Canada, thank you. We got a lot to get into over the next two hours. You've already done a lot. We talked about Paul Skeans. Man was throwing a no-hitter. Seven innings, 11 strikeouts.
Derek Shelton, his manager, pulled him. Says he looked tired. Your night is over.
Afternoon is over. Pittsburgh beat the Brewers one to nothing. People are angry about it. You can't pull a guy throwing a no-hitter.
Yes, you can. We talked about Jalen Brown, angry Jalen Brown. Not on Team USA. You took them people off, man. They didn't want you.
They did not want you. Oh, thank you to our guests. Gary Washburn from the Boston Globe. Jared Dubin joined us. Talked some NFL action.
How about this? In about 20 minutes, we're going to be joined by Bill Bender from the Sporting News. Going to talk some college football. We just did talk some college football before the break. I dug in my memory bank. I guess my memory bank doesn't work. I couldn't say it properly. I dug in my memory bank and I remember the beat down I saw at Rutgers in 2016 as Michigan smashed them 78 to nothing.
You know, Hickey, we wouldn't be. Tamar wants me and it's all in fun. Tamar wanted me to just cut it out on Rutgers. And then all he did is help me bring more attention to like when they got their asses won. Like this is the reverse of what he wanted. That's Rutgers football for you.
Right? Like, why are you poking the bear? Why are you poking me? Like, you didn't know I went to a game, did you? You didn't know I knew people that went to the school, did you? Come on, now.
I can sit here and give experience. What's the worst game that you went to, Hickey? You got a game that you went to and you're just like, oh man, this is the pits? Oh, I've been to a lot of Penn State losses. I hate to say it as a student. They lost to UCF with Blake Bortles before anyone thought that UCF was any good.
Central Florida, my God. Yeah, the first ever game as a student I went to in 2012, they lost to Ohio. That was pretty bad.
Bill O'Brien, like 28, 17, something like that. It was not even like they lost in the last second. They got kind of handled. And all the weather is always crap? I mean, these good weather games, are they garbage? The sun was out that game, so the team stunk, but at least we had a nice sunny day, so we're not in the rain like you.
Okay. Well, I think I was in the rain a little. Well, it was pouring. I was covered. I don't know how I did it, but I was. I wasn't going to sit out in that stuff and be miserable. I will tell you this. I don't know what year it was.
I have no idea. It was at Shea Stadium. I guess this had to have been.
Mo Vaughn was a Met. Was it from one season? Yeah, two, three maybe at the most. It was very little time. I don't even think that many. Infancy days of Mets fandom. Oh, good. Good for you.
Well, I went it will. Mo Vaughn was on the team. Roberto Alomar was still on the team.
Wow. I think Derek Bell was playing. Maybe he wasn't.
I know he was stealing money. So this had to have been in the early 2000s. I was at Shea Stadium and I sat on my I sat kind of I don't know if I was behind home plate or the third baseline, but I was literally a couple of rows. And this thing I'm saying, thank God. I got to be honest. I understand the safety aspect of the Nets, but I don't like the Nets in baseball.
I don't like the fact that they go all the way around. And so I was sitting right there. There was no net and it was amazing.
It was beautiful. And so me and my friend get to the game and we sit down in our seats and hickey. I'll tell you this. We're going through the game. It's not boiling hot outside, but for whatever reason, we switch seats when we get there. At some point throughout the game, sixth, seventh inning, like I catch a T-shirt, you know, Mr. Matt is doing T-shirt toss.
I catch a T-shirt and then like the half inning later, he bought a new Mets hat at the game and a bird crapped on him. Oh, no. Yeah. That's how I knew I was on a good path in life. OK. I knew my life was going to be good after that.
Yeah, your friend, that's that is the one to in the span of 20 minutes is brutal. Yeah. I catch a T-shirt.
He catches crap. Literally, literally on a new hat, nonetheless. Yeah, I don't. That's when I knew there was God. I knew at that day. That day I knew.
And I knew he liked me and not him. If I was your friend, you pack it up. I don't care.
It's the top of the first inning and this happens. OK. Not my day. I'm going home.
I didn't know you stay. Who knows what could happen. Yeah, I don't know what to do. What final destination stuff on the way back home.
Right. I don't know. Anyway, some fun sports stories. I wish I do. I have one at Madison Square Garden. No, I don't. I don't. Lots of pain in Madison Square.
Lots of pain here. All the games in Atlanta, too. But anyway, let's not get into that.
Eight five five two one two forty two twenty seven. I did tell you that Bill Bender is going to come through to talk some college football with us. We won't discuss blow outs.
I mean, there could be some blow outs with all this conference realignment and teams jumping and skipping and leaving. But we'll get to that in about 15 minutes. I did tell you before the break, as we talked about some football. That there's going to be a new panelist on inside the NFL. Now, you might remember inside the NFL used to air.
Hickey, help me out. Was it Showtime they used to have it on? Yes.
It's now on the CW. OK, don't ask me. I don't know. That's over the air television.
That much I know. Ryan Clark, Chris Long and Chad Johnson. That's quite an eclectic group.
You want to know who the hell they're adding to that group? One of the greatest football minds of all time. He's currently without work in the NFL. His name is Bill Belichick.
Yeah. Once a week throughout the course of the NFL season, you can watch Bill Belichick, Ryan Clark, Chris Long and Chad. Chad Johnson. Talk about football.
Now, I don't know if Chad Johnson is a smart guy, but he's he's also I've never seen a guy be serious. This is going to be comedy hour. Is he just bringing a comedy? Is Bill Belichick going to tell a man shut up?
Like what? This is going to be an interesting show. Am I going to watch it?
No, no, I'm not. No, I don't know. The last time I watched CW. I don't know what comes on CW live golf.
Hickey, help me. Do you know anything? Do you watch CW? So, yeah, I don't think so.
The Mets are on Channel 11 here in New York that used to be CW. But now I think it's picks. I don't know if it's the same. I don't know if it's one of the same. If it's the same, then I guess technically I've watched the CW recently. If it's not the same, then I couldn't tell you last time.
Decades. I haven't seen CW in the same. I don't know, man. Do you know what the CW stands for? Because I got no idea.
People don't even know what it stands for. Is the W stand for Warner? Sure. Claire Warner.
I have no idea. CW network. Come on. These are things that we have to the CW television.
Come on. What does it stand for? They don't even know. We don't know. We don't. Nobody knows.
The co-founding owners, CBS Corporation and Warner Brothers, who no longer own it anymore. There you go. There you go. Now we got answers. Now we get answers. So now we can watch Bill Belichick, or at least I can see the highlights on the Internet.
That's how I'm going to see it. Bill Belichick is great on TV. He might have stunk as a what do you call him? A head coach, or at least on the microphone. He was an excellent head coach, one of the best of all time.
But on TV, he's great. Remember, I mean, at the scouting combine, you know, well, not from the combine, but from the draft. Bill Belichick was sitting down with Pat McAfee and he was talking about all the quarterbacks. He sounded like a genius.
Listen to a happy Bill Belichick. You know, McCarthy generally mechanics are pretty good, but they could definitely be better here. He's got a relatively easy throw and puts it out of bounds. Drake May is his footwork needs a lot of work.
You can see here, he's just all over the place. Never resets his feet. Never really gets in position to throw. Gets strip sacked.
Too much hopping around. Step up and throw. Penix, a good example here of just where he needs to hit the open man, right? He's got a, you know, here's a back checking out of the backfield. He's got some pressure.
Just give it to him. But he extends the play, runs around, and the back gets killed for a two-yard gain. So these guys are all really talented, but they all have things they need to work on. And when you look at Manning, Brady, Mahomes, guys like that, the elite quarterbacks in the league, you see a gap between where these kids are and where they need to go.
Not saying they can't get there. They just got some work to do. I can count on my hands the amount of times I've heard him put together that many sentences in the past 20 years.
He sounds like a normal human being, not a grump. When he was an NFL head coach, and we know they lie and they don't want to talk, and the gentleman, everybody lies in the NFL. They lie in professional sports. They got to do what they need to do behind the scenes. They need to manipulate the media.
The media tries to manipulate them back. It's like a relationship. But either way, remember when Bill Belichick had that, uh, hey, on to Cincinnati, on to Cincinnati. I mean, he explained that on NFL films.
Listen to his personality some more. Were you thinking of having a 37-year-old? We're on to Cincinnati. There's nothing about the past, nothing about the future. Right now we're preparing for Cincinnati. Do you feel like the talent you have here is good? We're getting ready for Cincinnati. We got to turn the page. I mean, we're going to sit there and talk about the Kansas City game for the rest of the season, any more than we would talk about any of our big wins for day after day after day. You know, it's 24 hours after the game.
You got to move on. Yeah. He's he's good. So he's going to be on inside the NFL. Bill Belichick will be appearing on Pat McAfee's show, I believe once a week. Maybe he can replace Aaron Rodgers. I doubt it, though. And then also he's going to be contributing to ESPN's Manning cast. And so we got a lot of I thought he was just going to be hanging out with his new 23-year-old girlfriend. But Bill Belichick is still going to work.
I love it. And honestly, I hope he doesn't coach again. Like it's small sample size and he's done right.
Limited TV. But whether it's college game day, even the clip we just heard before, but him breaking down the quarterbacks. He I think he has a personality when he wants to let it shine. And I think if he's not coaching and can kind of just be happy talking football, I think I think we the viewer would benefit from it. And he would be very good. Yeah, he is. He's he's great.
He's amazing to listen to. I still ain't going to sit down and watch the CW. And how is this show going to work? Well, I used to watch the inside the NFL at times. It was like 40, 45 minutes. They had no commercials. And they, you know, they talked about the past week's games and upcoming games. And it was some deep analysis. It was a fun show.
Like how it operates on network television. Are you going to slap commercials in the middle of it? Like, that's not entertaining. Like, I'm not watching that. You going to tune in? I don't know. I'm definitely more likely to tune in now that Belichick is there. But honestly, probably I'm with you. I'll see the highlights on Twitter and maybe a little bit longer version on YouTube. But like, I don't know.
I mean, can't find the CW. Number one. Number two. Are we going to be sticking around for Chad Ochocinco's tease, you know, about the fastest receiver in the game? I don't know.
I don't know. Yeah, he's he might, you know, he might be overkill. Ochocinco might be doing a show. Well, he don't need to be there. Let me put it that way. They're doing him a disservice by inviting them on. It's just too much. And then the commercials, who would have thought that Bill Belichick would equal ratings?
And I think he will. Like, who the hell else would there be no other reason to tune into the show? It's not like I'm missing Ryan Clark. He pops up like every other day, you know, is the pivot. Not like I miss Chad Ochocinco.
Just like the area is making funny jokes about McDonald's. Now, Chris Long. I know his dad. I don't know what Chris Long is doing or saying, but congratulations to Bill Belichick.
He found something else to do by hanging out besides hanging out with 23 year old women. Let's see if he's the Cowboys coach next year. OK, we'll find out soon enough. It's the J.R. sport we show here with you on the Infinity Sports Network. We're going to take a break because that's what we have to do, too. We're not inside the NFL, but we must take a break.
And on the other side of said break. It's time to have a conversation. We're going to be joined by Bill Bender from the Sporting News. I'm not going to discuss Rutgers football, but we are going to talk about some football teams that matter a little more. Like Clemson and Florida State, the Seminoles, because there are a couple of teams that want to leave the ACC reportedly. I think I know what they want to do, but reportedly we'll get into that with him. Talk about more of the things that took place over Big 12 media day.
And could these two teams join the Big 12? We'll get into it all. Bill Bender coming up on the other side.
You're locked in. It's the J.R. sport we show on the Infinity Sports Network. It's been a three year wait, but the Olympics are back and the CBS Sports Podcast Network has you covered with everything happening in Paris. It's a new era for the U.S. women's national team and attacking third will tackle all the women's soccer action. Follow and listen to all CBS Sports Podcasts for free on the Odyssey app and wherever you get your podcasts. You know, got to get rid of this old Backstreet Boys T-shirt. Tell me why. Because it stinks, boys. Tell me why. I've watched it so many times, but the odor will come out.
Tell me why. No, you tell me why I can't get rid of this odor. Have you tried Downy Rinse and Refresh? It doesn't just cover up odors. It helps remove them. Wow, it worked, guys. Yeah. Downy Rinse and Refresh removes more odor in one wash than the leading value detergent in three washes.
Find it wherever you buy laundry products. You are listening to the J.R. sport brief. I cannot. I'm retired.
I do nothing. I stand here in the studio and talk about sports because I ain't playing them. It is the J.R. sport brief show here with you on the Infinity Sports Network.
Speaking of people who actually can go out on a field. Man, we got Big 12 media day or it took place over the past couple of days. We got plenty of rumors following that. Waiting on these teams to hit camp. I'm waiting for games to start next month. I cannot wait. I need to do something on my Saturdays to talk about some of the news that has come out over the past several days.
What may happen over the next several weeks. We're being joined by Bill Bender, who covers college football for the sporting news. Hey, Bill, thank you for taking the time to join us.
It's good to be on. Hey, I returned one kickoff in my life in high school and I got lit up. So that was a very short lived life as a kickoff returner.
But, you know, that was many, many years ago. I know I can't do it now. Hey, listen, we're in the same boat. I am.
I'm not catching the football to run anywhere. Those days are over, Bill. They're over. They're over. But speaking about the guys who do and can.
I want to I want to talk to you about this. There's been a lot. This is this is a wild summer. I can't keep up with the transactions and the transfer portal and the teams that it's like we got teams that move. We have coaches that move. We have divisions that like this is crazy.
Let me let me start here. What has been the biggest story between the national championship and today? I think Nick Saban retiring, you know, obviously, and the hole it creates and the expectations on killing the boar. They had a bunch of guys transfer Caleb down, maybe the best player in the country goes to Ohio State. But I'm starting to come around the other way on Alabama. You start to realize, hey, Dylan Monroe was very efficient once he took a hit a hold of that starting job. They have a lot of four and five star talent coming back. And killing the board took Washington to a national championship game in two years. So I might. And oh, by the way, they won the SEC last year.
So I'm. I'm like back around and I know Nick Saban is a huge presence, the largest presence that we miss on Media Day. I actually have a question for you.
I was asking some people today with Saban gone. You have the biggest presence on the podium. I think he does. I can't come up with somebody else that does. Your name, the name. I missed the name. Say the name again. Oh, of course.
Of course. And I was thinking about that today because Saban had such a presence on the podium at SEC kickoff where everybody listened. That's the way I could describe it, because he was going to say what he was going to say. We all listened. And I felt like that about beyond this week. Dion wasn't over the top, but he says something. We all listen for better or worse in between.
Yeah. Dion Sanders is like it's like going to church. Every press conference is like going to church and everybody has to take communion and listen to Dion. And how do you think he's going to perform with all of these these new transfers that are coming in? He raved about the new offensive line. He's he's bigging up his players.
Of course he is. But I mean, what are they going to do in the new Big 12? Well, I think I've been making this analogy with the new video game. They're probably going to be the most popular team on it because they have the highest ranked quarterback in Chidor and the best receiver in Travis Hunter. So if I'm playing video games, I'm throwing deep every play. And I can't wait to play that, by the way.
Real life can be interesting to see. I think on their starting projected starting lineup, two guys that haven't transferred at some point going to need and they did address the offensive and defensive line. That's where it starts. That's what caught up with them in October and November last year. If that improves, I do think they're going to grab hold of the consciousness again like they did last year. I think September right up to go that Thursday night opener against North Dakota State. We're going to tune in. We're going to be interesting. And Chidor, I mean, I think he absolutely is going to be a top five pick.
And I feel like I feel like I'm saying that with confidence. I really do believe he'll be there. The Bill Bender is joining us from the sporting news. You talk about Dion and we talk about Saban being gone.
Somebody else is gone. And we discussed him earlier on in the show is Harbaugh. This man is now coaching the Chargers. Michigan is now has more lead in the ship. We know the formula up at Michigan.
But Sharone Moore, he didn't wake up yesterday. We know McCarthy is also gone. What's going to take place between Michigan and even Ohio State moving forward? How long is Moore going to get a leash? I think this year's a bit of a honeymoon.
And I realize which program I'm talking about. Just that they won their first national title since 1997. Sharone proved himself in the biggest state as possible. You know, they beat Penn State on the road. They beat Ohio State. He held it together and they've recruited well in terms of they're not getting a ton of recruits, but the recruits they're getting have high star ratings.
So I say all this. Their schedule is brutal. Texas comes to Ann Arbor. USC and Oregon come to Ann Arbor.
They've got to go to Washington. They've got to go to Ohio State. To me, 9-3 or 10-2 is a successful season this year with that schedule. And losing 13 guys for the NFL draft, including their quarterback. But, you know, they are a program where that's not going to last forever. If they go 9-3 this year, coming back to 2025, you're expecting 10-2 or 11-1 with that program that Jim Harbaugh and Sharone more.
Because more was definitely a part of that that they built there. Bill Bender joining us from the Sporting News. You mentioned Texas going on to take on Michigan. We know Texas, Oklahoma.
Old days are gone. They now come on over here to my neck of the woods and the SEC. With the college football playoff being expanded, obviously this is to their benefit. How do you think they're going to perform this first year in the SEC? You know, if you would have told me three years ago that Texas would be more prepared for this than Oklahoma, I probably would have shook my head in disbelief. But I think the Longhorns have the best quarterback range in the country right now with Quinn and Arch.
And they have guys behind those two. It's wild to me in that they have stability with SARS. They've really built a good program there. Oklahoma's not too shabby either.
They won 10 games last year. And yes, the bowl game was bad, but that's a proud program. And I think both of those programs are so psyched to wear that SEC patch on their uniform because it's going to help in recruiting.
You know, especially in the trenches. I think with Oklahoma, that's my big thing. In the playoff, got beat by LSU, Georgia, Alabama, and got beat up front. So do they make the necessary adjustments up front if the athletes that can win?
And no, I'm anxious to see it. I really do believe this 16-team SEC, it's going to come down to a war of attrition of sorts. Who can get through the toughest schedules? You know, some of these teams have absolutely brutal schedules, Oklahoma and Florida in particular.
Well, Bill, you mentioned those Bulldogs. I still feel kind of bad my next-door neighbors didn't get into the playoff last year. I would say it's a foregone conclusion they'll get in this year. How do you think they're going to perform with the new competition?
They're still going to be right there. And their schedule's tough. Clemson, Alabama, Texas, Ole Miss. They play them all. They play like four or five top 10 teams. Carson Beck coming back huge. He settled in last year.
Really good performance. They lose Brock Bowers and Ladd McConkie. They're going to have to find some answers there. Defense is loaded. Kirby Smart's got – he can play the underdog card.
He loves playing it anyway. Now he's going to definitely tell us that nobody believes in them because they didn't make the playoff last year. And they were one bad half away from possibly winning three straight national titles, in my opinion.
But it's going to be interesting to see. I think they're in that first tier of SEC teams along with Alabama, Texas and Ole Miss. Well, Bill, you talk about people being proud to have the SEC on their chest.
We know that people are proud to be in the Big Ten. I want to talk to you about the ACC because it's been rumored, it's been reported, and I think we've heard this for years now, honestly. That Florida State and Clemson, they're looking at all the money everybody else is making in different conferences and that they want to bail.
Like we got lawsuits. How realistic is it that over the next several years Florida State and Clemson bail and the ACC looks like the Pac-12 of the East? I really hope this doesn't happen.
I really don't. I didn't like that the Pac-12 died. I wouldn't like it if the ACC did. I think Clemson and Florida State, I hope they can straighten it out, but I understand the revenue gaps. Particularly with Florida State, when you're competing with Florida, and Clemson, who's competing with South Carolina in their own state, and Clemson's won two national titles in the last ten years.
So I understand all that. I just wouldn't want to see this happen. If that domino were to fall, though, I know the Big 12 was being speculated about this, and that was just a scenario.
That's a long way off from that even becoming a real thing. I mean, what's stopping the Big 10 from going after those schools? At least Florida State. What's stopping the Big 10 from going from Florida State and Miami? And if you're really making an NFL-type cross-country conference, if I was the Big 10, this is speculation, there's nothing behind it. If I was the commissioner, that's what I would do. Well, Bill, I'm going to ask you this question. I ask this to everybody.
And there's no answer, nobody has an answer. But how are the conferences going to continue to evolve? Like, what is college football going to look like ten or fifteen years from now? I mean, are we looking at a group of five, a power five, a top two? What are we doing? I think it almost breaks down into three divisions, sort of, because to me, with the revenue sharing piece of this coming, how many schools can actually play like that?
I think 40, 44. And the talk of a Super League, that gets squashed a lot. But, I mean, I think there's gaps within the SEC. There's gaps within the Big 10. I watch some Big 10 games and I'm like, maybe it's unfair to use Ohio State, but there are some teams that simply don't belong on the field with them. And it's like that in the SEC.
You know that. You know it's like that in the SEC, too. So, how many teams can play like that? NIL, revenue sharing, paying players. How big are the coaching staff now?
I mean, you've seen the team pictures, right? I mean, how many schools can actually afford to do that would be the big question in the next five to ten years. Yeah, it's crazy. You think about the consolidation and what might happen. You know, why can't we just have the television distributors? They're the ones throwing around the money. Let them figure it out. It's quite interesting.
It really is. When you take a look at this upcoming season, who are you favoring to walk away with a national championship? Well, you know, all these preseason publications, ourselves included at Sporting News, have Georgia at number one. I think Ohio State, I'm a little surprised they're not number one on a couple of them. I think those are the two teams to watch, obviously. Who's built to win three playoff games? Who has the competitive depth to do that?
I think those two. Alabama. Oregon's really interesting to me. Because they're coming into the Big Ten.
Transfer quarterback, Dan Lanning has recruited well. They're going to be fast. They're going to score a ton of points. They're going to be aggressive. They're kind of that team I'm watching that, okay, they could come in. I watched them beat Ohio State a couple years ago in the shoes.
So I know they can come into the Big Ten right away and compete. Bill, appreciate the time. What the hell are you going to be doing between now and August? Do you get a break? You slow down a little bit?
We're going to the beach this weekend up on Lake Michigan for my son's lacrosse tournament. Then I got to get to work. I think summer's over and it's time to get to work right. And any time I get to talk to you, it's not work. This is so much fun.
Hey, I enjoy chatting it up with you all the time, Bill. You getting an exclusive copy of college football? What is the game called? College football what? Yay, sports college football 25. I'm looking forward to playing it, dusting off the old skills. It's been a while, but I know I can return kicks on that a lot better than I can in real life. Hey, I'm in the same boat.
I'll sign up for the video game violence and not the real ones. Bill, enjoy the beach and we'll be talking to you soon, okay? Hey, no problem. Thank you.
No doubt about it. That Bill Bender covers all things college football for the sporting news. You can go ahead and find him a Bill Bender 92 on X, on Twitter, or whatever the hell you call it. It's the JR Sport Reshow here with you on the Infinity Sports Network, 855-212-4227.
That's 855-212-4227. He said he's looking forward to that EA Sports college football game. It's kind of interesting. There's a player, I don't want to say he sold out, but there's a player who did kind of sell out to get in the game. I think that's EA's slogan, but I'll tell you who it is on the other side of the break. The phone lines open if you want to give me a holler.
We have so much more to get into. You're listening to the JR Sport Brief. It's the JR Sport Reshow here on the Infinity Sports Network.
It's explosive. 855-212-4227. That's 855-212-4227. Hey, thank you to our guests on the last break. Bill Bender came on through from the sporting news. We talked so much about college football, I feel like we went around the world.
Everything from my Bulldogs to the Seminoles to Michigan to Alabama. We went all over the place. Hey, thank you, Bill.
Appreciate you taking the time to come through. And one of the things we did discuss, well, two things I want to talk about now. A new video game.
And then the thought and the idea that both Florida State and Clemson one day could exit the ACC. For where? I don't know.
Big 12? Listen to this report. This was on the John Curt show. Ross Dellinger. This is a report that he had.
Take a listen. You look at the Florida State and Clemson's options. The first option would probably be to get into the Big Ten or SEC. The second option would be in some way to reform the ACC with a smaller number of teams where you would be financially, get a financial advantage because you wouldn't split the distribution, TV distribution with 18.
Maybe you would just split it with 10 so they could reform in a smaller group. In option three is to probably join another league. Right. Which would obviously be there's only one other power conference league. And that's the big 12.
So you look at those options. And again, they probably prefer number one. But I don't know that that's going to happen because the SEC has schools in those states already in Florida and South Carolina and the Big Ten. I don't know how interested they are in coming south. I mean, those things might happen. But I think there is at least early conversation between the big 12 in those schools about the possibility.
I don't know that it's anything serious yet because they do have to get out of the ACC, whether that's through a settlement or a court ruling. So we could be months, if not years away from from something. Man, who are we fooling? Like, they're going to leave.
Like, what are we talking? It's only a matter of time. Like with all the conference realignment and all the shifting going on, like they're going to leave.
Both of them. Unless they get better television deals and better television money, they ain't sticking around. Everybody's chasing the Bucks. They don't care about the rivalries.
They don't care about the history. These are. Come on now. This is a business. College football is a business.
How about I think we all know this. Colleges and universities, they are a business. Selling education. You got to buy it.
You can't have it for free. 855-212-4227. That's 855-212-4227. Let's go ahead and talk to Santos. He's calling from Arkansas.
Hey, Santos, you're on the JR Support Reshow. What's going on with you, man? Hello, sir. How are you doing? I'm excellent. How are you?
I'm having a beautiful day in the city of St. Louis, Arkansas. Lovely. What's up? Hold on, Santos.
I hear you breathing real hard, Santos. You OK? I do apologize. I'm good, sir. OK, what's up? I'm just a smart guy. I'm just a smart guy. OK. OK. All right. That's OK. I'm glad you're here.
What's up? I would say, number one, that Dallas Cowboys suck. OK. And my question for you is, do you think that New Orleans Saints could possibly make the playoffs this season? Oh, my God. Santos, you know the Saints stink. Come on, man.
Like, how about this? We talked about what we didn't. Hold on, Santos. We talked about this, this coaching list. CBS did a coaching list today.
It was released on CBSSports.com. You want to know who the last coach was? Dennis Allen. You like the Saints? You want to know who Saints fans don't like?
Derek Carr. Santos, you wanted me to tell you, do you believe the Saints are going to the playoffs? I'm hoping for the best. OK. You can hope for the best.
Do you think they're going to the playoffs? No. Well, there you have it.
I don't I don't think any different. Unfortunately, Santos, and thank you so much for calling from Arkansas. You got any other questions? You're good. I love your education. I love your speech on the radio.
Congratulations. And I look forward to speaking to you again one day. Listen, Santos, you know where to find me, OK?
It's 6 p.m. Eastern, 3 Pacific. I'll talk to you soon, OK? You be a favor. Have a good afternoon.
You as well. My brother, Santos, thank you. The Saints are one of these teams right now.
And thank you, Santos, for the kind words. The Saints are one of these teams that are going, they're nowhere. Like the New Orleans Saints are literally a team that's just they're waiting. They got Derek Carr. They don't want Derek Carr. The players don't want to play for Dennis Allen.
They got Dennis Allen. Like what's what's exciting about the Saints? Nothing.
Nothing. Think about the teams that they have to compete with. Here in the NFC South, OK? And I'm not being biased. Falcons are better than them. We know that. I mean, if they got a saving grace, my bad, it might be the Panthers. But the fact is, they suck. That nobody wants Derek Carr now. And this is disappointing. I'll tell you this.
Me personally. I love I love going to the Superdome. I think the Superdome is one of the best places to watch an NFL game. That place is like a party, like they took Bourbon Street and dumped it into the dome. But the football that you have there.
It ain't up to par, man. So playoffs. I'm not trying to get all, you know, Jim Morrow on you. Tampa Bay and the Falcons are better options to go to the playoffs. If the Panthers weren't in the same division with you, I would say that y'all are the worst. I feel bad telling Santos the truth, but it sounds like he already knows the truth. That's good, at least. At least he's not delusional. At least he's like he's going to be let down and disappointed, but at least it's not going to be as bad as if he went into the season thinking we're going to make the playoffs.
And then you're sitting there two months in looking at a, I don't know, 4-8 team. You know what was cool, though? Earlier in the show when Jared was on, Jared Dubin from CBS, he said that he was high on your Colts. I don't know how he could be, but are you in the same boat with him? I feel right.
Hey, I am. Anthony Richardson has all the tools. Shane Steichen, by the way, on that list, grossly underrated. 19th? Come on. You got the Colts the one game away from the Plaza, Gardner Minshew. But I think what's going to happen in the AFC South, the teams are going to, it's competitive. Like the Titans at the bottom of the barrel. But this is like I'm not going to put it historically in the space of an AFC North of Baltimore, Cleveland, Cincinnati and Pittsburgh. But the top three teams here, I feel like they're just going to beat the living hell out of each other all year long.
So I don't know. It's probably going to come down to an injury as to who's going to own and come out of the AFC South. It just they're just going to beat the hell out of each other. I don't I don't want to feel that one team is more prominent. But of course, people are going to look for it to be Houston.
I mean, you are right. Look, all three teams are very close and very bunched together. But like the Texans do have now a first place schedule. And I do think there is something to say of they're not surprising anybody now. I know last year again, they won when later in the year when they're winning games, it's not like, oh, wow, we don't really take the Texans seriously. But now, like they are on everyone's radar and there has been a full off season of tape out there for defensive coordinators to look at to see what rattles or confuses C.J.
Stroud. Like, I'm not saying they're going to fall off a cliff, but I think it's just I'm interested to see if there is any improvement from last year and how much more difficult it's going to be for them this year compared to last year. Absolutely. Absolutely.
Well, I'll tell you who we don't have no tape on your quarterback. OK, that's right. I'll use it as a positive. That could be a negative.
I'm going to say that's a positive. No one knows what to expect that this is the he. I am so disappointed that Anthony Richardson really didn't play last year, because when you got a freak athlete like that, like I want to see the dude out there and he wasn't.
I want to see is he going to sink or swim? I feel like if you combine Cam Newton and who's who's Lamar Jackson, like you get Anthony Richardson. I just don't know if a guy like that is is able to play football like he's a tank. He's a he's a speedster. He's big. He's strong. He's fast. He might as well do backflips out of the huddle.
But what good is he if he can't go out there and play? Joe Flacco is going to be standing by with his helmet in his hand, collecting his eight million dollars. Picky, how many games is Flacco going to start?
Zero. Come on. You know what? You're right. He's going to start week 18 because the Colts are going to have the first round by locked up. They're going to play a little safe. He's going to play at the end of the year. Yeah.
When everything's wrapped up. OK, I can see this man playing in October, November. We'll see. I hope it's not the case. I think he chose playing there for a reason, but we'll see.
Anyway, I think they're paying him eight million for a reason. We'll see. It's the J.R. Sportbreeze show here with you on the Infinity Sports Network. We come back.
We got more to get into. I didn't forget about telling you about the video game. And by the way, Jalen Brown, he just walked the ESPY's red carpet. He looks pretty happy to me. I'll explain.
