Is there something really absurd that skews you out? Getting a paper cut on my eyeball? A fear you can't shake? I'm gonna leak ocular fluid on my cheeks.

It's gonna go into my mouth and I will perish. Whatever scares you, I wanna talk about it. Join me, Larry Mullins, on my new podcast, Your Weirdest Fears. Listen and subscribe to Your Weirdest Fears on the Odyssey app or wherever you get your podcast from. And do we mention it's all free?

Download the Odyssey app today. Our number two of our radio program, that's right. It is the Zach Gelb Show Coast to Coast on CBS Sports Radio. And one of the best stories through the first eight weeks of the NFL season are the New York football giants who are six and two. And they're in their bye week. And now joining us is the first year general manager of Big Blue.

And that, of course, is Joe Shane. Joe, first off, congratulations on the hot start. Appreciate the time and how you've been. Thanks, I appreciate, yeah, doing well. Obviously, the start helps and the bye week here. So I'm looking forward to taking a couple days off and being a dad. So everything's going well, though. Appreciate you having me.

But yeah, what is Joe Shane like as a father during the bye week? I'm gonna be present. I'm gonna be present, finally. So yeah, kids got games. My daughter cheers. She has a game.

She'll be cheering at it. So I'll go do that. And then interestingly enough, the Bills, the team where I came from, they play at the Jets this weekend. So I have some little co-workers in town that I may meet up with on Saturday night. Where does Joe Shane go for a meal these days? What's the popular spot that you like to eat at? The place I like to go is a place called Chart House. It's down on the water, I guess it would be, maybe Hoboken, I think might be the address down there, but really nice. It's right on the river, beautiful views of the city.

It's a good spot. After a win, do you go there and you're kind of like day balls, like spark up a victory cigar and eat a steak or something like that? No, no, I try to get home after the games.

I try to get a home as quick as I can. And again, the hours you work, the chance to be home and on your couch by 4.35 o'clock and watch some other football, that's enticing to me. So we were talking before the start of the season. You said you would come on during the bye week. So I do appreciate you honoring that commitment. But to be at 6 and 2 right now, in those messages that we exchange before the season, if I were to tell you that you'd be at 6 and 2 headed into the bye, what would you have said? Sign me up.

Sign me up. Yeah, no, it's been great. Again, the guys are doing things the right way. We've got a really good group of guys on this football team, good coaching staff. They're doing a really good job with preparing the guys, executing. We're not beating ourselves. For the most part, we did a little bit on Sunday against Seattle. But a big reason we're 6 and 2 is the players are preparing like pros, good weeks of practice, good preparation. And the results are speaking for themselves on Sundays. And what does surprise you the most about this team?

I said it early on, I really think it takes four to five weeks or four to five games to really figure out who you're going to be, what the identity of your team is going to be. And I think what I'm most proud of that you don't really know until you get into these games is our guys are really resilient. They're tough. They're competitive. And Daniel Jones has five fourth quarter comebacks right now. We're scratching and clawing and fighting 60 minutes of these games and a couple of our games that come down to the last play.

And I'm just proud of the way the guys fight, the way they prepare. And like I said earlier, the results are showing us because of the makeup of the team and in their competitiveness. Now since you've seen eight games of this, how good can this team continue to be down the stretch?

Yeah, it's not going to be easy. I think going before the Seattle game, our average margin of victory was like 2.8 points a game. So it's going to be close.

It's going to be a dogfight. Again, if we keep doing what we're doing, I think, you know, we're going to give ourselves a good chance each Sunday. You know, again, we just we don't have a big margin for error in terms of beating ourself and turning the ball over penalties. And, you know, we've been able to avoid that stuff, you know, through much of the season. How would you describe this first year pretty much and just how the culture has really changed? I know you don't necessarily are all that familiar necessarily with what happened day to day in the past. But the culture in this building right now with you and Brian Dable is what? Yeah, there's only one way to do it for us that we knew.

So yeah, however it was before, you know, I wasn't here, so I can't speak on it. But I think I feel like the guys enjoy coming to work every day. We don't have a lot of rules for the players.

It's very simple. One of our mantras around the building is be a pro and, you know, everybody knows exactly what that means. And again, the guys like being around each other. They like playing for each other.

They hold each other accountable. And you know, again, it's fun to come to work every day, whether it's the coaching staff, the personnel staff, the players, a lot of good people in this building, a lot of people that are very good at their jobs, the people that are in the right seats. And you know, I think that's part of what the, you know, when you speak of the culture of what Brian and I want it to be, you know, we're kind of seeing that come to fruition. And you know, the positive thing is there's positive results early.

And then, you know, Brian and I being here that the positive results, you know, kind of show that the process is working. We know alignment is so big in the NFL and clearly you have that alignment with your head coach and Brian Dable. You guys work together in Buffalo. You also work together in Miami. Take me back to the first time you remember meeting Brian Dable and how did you guys really hit it off?

My first exposure to Brian Dable, it would have been 2011. So he came to Miami as the offensive coordinator and I was a national scout at the time living in Dallas. So it would have been our, you know, February meetings, pre-combine, you know, we flew in for meetings and, you know, he had basically evaluated, you know, all the offensive players on our board and his knowledge of the draft, his ability to evaluate, not just, you know, some of these guys can only evaluate the positions they've coached, but O-line, tight ends, receivers, quarterbacks, like he could evaluate all positions across the offensive side of the ball. And one of the players that sticks out to me was Charles Clay.

We took him in the sixth round out of Tulsa. Dave's basically identified, this is the type of player I'm looking for. These are the jobs he needs to do and this is how I'm going to utilize him. And he clearly defined that to our staff so we could go identify four to five players that fit that mold. Charles Clay was one of those players he went on to have a very good career. So I think that's one of Dave's strengths is, you know, one, evaluating, being able to articulate what he wants and then also taking the pieces that he has and developing an offense around those pieces.

So that was my first exposure and some of the strengths that I saw early on in our relationship back in 2011. So it didn't surprise you that this guy ended up becoming a head coach in this league is what you're telling me. No, no, not at all.

Not at all. When he was at Alabama and he was the offensive coordinator that one year, you know, we were in contact, obviously going through there, they had a lot of good players and, you know, going over, you know, what his thoughts were on some of the Alabama players. And then, you know, there was a chance that we would have an offensive coordinator position open in Buffalo and we stayed in contact and him and coach McDermott had actually crossed pass at William and Mary a long time ago so that a previous relationship, but he didn't know Brandon Bean at the time and, you know, once their season was over and we moved on from our offensive coordinator, you know, he came in and interviewed and knocked it out of the park. Joe Shane, the first year general manager, the Giants here with us on the Zach Gelb show. I know you touched on this briefly with the way that Daniel Jones has been finishing games, but give me your overall evaluation so far in your quarterback. Yeah, he's done a good job. He's done a good job for us. Again, a big reason we're six and two and, you know, I said this yesterday in my press conference like got to have it moments, you know, a lot of times that's a good ear marker for quarterbacks and, you know, those fourth quarters when you got to have drives, you need points. He's led us down the field five times.

He's done that well. He's done a good job on third down for us when we need it and he's taken care of the football. So, you know, I think he's had a through eight games.

We still have nine. You know, again, the evaluation is ongoing, but through eight games, I'm pleased with where Daniel is. I always wonder what people say on how they describe what a franchise quarterback is. For me, the two things I look for is just when I'm watching a game on third and whatever, do I feel like my quarterback can complete that? And then the final two minutes of games, can you go march down the field and either get a field goal or a touchdown?

How do you define what is a franchise quarterback? Yeah, a lot of what you just said, I mean, that's part of it is, you know, again, when everybody in the building knows you're going to throw it, can you throw it? You know, it's like, you know, can you, do you have confidence at the end of the half for him to take you down the field and get points or into the game? You know, can you add lib, can you make plays, you know, when things aren't perfect?

So there's a lot of things that go into it, not just what you see on film, but off the field, you know, off the field as well in terms of leadership, personality, approach to your profession. And, you know, Daniel checks a lot of those boxes from, you know, his off-field habits, his work ethic, his preparation, his communication, leadership, you know, all those are positives. It made 110% sense why you guys didn't pick up his fifth-year option, but is it safe to say that this year he's exceeded your expectations?

Yeah, I wouldn't say he's exceeded my expectations. Before I took the job, I knew he had physical tools, you saw that. And then, you know, once I got around the kid, the spring and summer, then you saw how his approach to the game was. And, you know, I think, again, he just, you know, was taking care of the football, which is, you know, was maybe a knock on him in the past.

He always had the physical ability. So I think he's playing, you know, probably at my expectations. Is it safe to say that you plan to have them on the roster right now when you review this team at the bye week next year? Yeah, there's a lot of stuff that goes into that.

I, you know, I'm not going to commit one way or the other. It's an ongoing evaluation, there's contracts involved, there's a lot of things that go into that. So that's an ongoing evaluation that, you know, we'll have, you know, probably those discussions this offseason. Joe Shane here with us, the giant general manager for a few more minutes.

It is the Zach Gelb show on CBS Sports Radio. Saquon Barkley, we always knew he had the talent. It was just a matter of staying healthy. How about your evaluation so far, and your running back, who's just been really the heartbeat of your team? Yeah, he's, again, he's a great kid.

He fits our culture as well. He's a captain. He's done everything we've asked him to do, and then the play speaks for itself. He's off to a hot start here for us, and, you know, again, you know, that's a team deal. You know, the offensive line's done a good job, the receivers blocking for him have done a good job, and, you know, Saquon's back to, you know, he looks like he did his rookie year, you know, when he was before the knee injury, and he's been a pleasure to work with. I watched your press conference yesterday, and you said that you had one team call you about a player, and it was a quick no. Was it Saquon Barkley?

It was not. I have one more guess. No, that's it. You only get one.

That's it. I'm going to give you another guess anyway, Dexter Lawrence. It was not Saquon.

Wow. Oh, so how about Dexter then? It was not Saquon. How about your evaluation of Dexter Lawrence, because he looks like he's going to be in line for a long-term extension soon. Yeah, he's, I love Dex. He's a great guy. He's done a really good job for us. He cracks me up, but, yeah, he's a matchup guy. When you go to play the Giants, you've got to know where 97 is, because he's playing at a high level right now, big, strong, tough, physical, and plays a lot of snaps, so I love Dex. He's a good guy, and he's definitely a culture fit and a guy we're going to want around here for a long time.

Joe Shane here with us. You've been through these trade deadline days numerous times in the weeks leading up to them, but now being in the GM chair and being the point person, how was that experience when you look back on it? Yeah, it was no different than the kind of what I was doing in Buffalo. You're always making these phone calls, and I said it yesterday in my press conference, all the way back to August, some of the players that were identified or traded or the media was reporting were available. Those are calls we've had. We continue to have throughout the season just trying to find teams that have an appetite to move players, and if the value matches up to where we see the player, then we were open to do it a deal, and nothing transpired this year, but we were definitely active in our phone calls, and I know a lot of people were on the receiver thing, but it was several different positions that we were interested in, and the value just didn't work out. Specifically with Kedarius Toney, why was it in the best interest of the Giants to trade him now? It was just in the best interest for us.

Dave and I talked about it for the organization. It was the best move for us at this time. In terms of confidence, I know he's got to get healthy, but where's your confidence that Kenny Galla today could be a productive piece for this team down the stretch? Yeah, we need him to be. I want him to be, so we're looking forward to him coming back. He's been busting his butt to get back. He's done everything we've asked him to do since the day we got here, so we need him to perform well, and he's working towards that, so hopefully we can get him back soon. He can help us. Joe Shane here with us.

I know you didn't slam the door shut. You left it pretty open yesterday for a potential reunion with Odell Beckham. Have you guys had conversations with Odell's reps yet? Yeah, we have, and again, he's a free agent. We've talked to, again, there's several veteran free agents that are still on the market at different positions, too.

We're in constant contact with, you know, we call it injured, but tracking list, guys that are injured that we're tracking when they're going to be back, you know, guys that are on the street, so yeah, he checks the box of a guy that's a free agent this time that just needs to get healthy, and we're monitoring his health status and when he'll be back to, you know, football. Have you had any interactions with him in the past? I have not.

I have not. So if he's considering the Giants, and let's say he asks you because he wants a better understanding of you and Brian Dayball, why should he be interested in returning? What would you say to him?

Yeah, he can visit us, so like he can go on visits, he can do that whenever he wants, so again, we'll work through that when the time comes, I'll prepare my free agent speech if I need to before he gets here, but when that time comes, we'll sit down with him. It's got to, you know, it's like a marriage, it's got to work for both parties, it can't be a one-way street, you know, we got to make sure it's a good fit for us and a good fit for him if we ever get to that point. What have you learned about yourself in this first year so far? What have I learned about myself? That's a good question. Oh, wow.

Well I know this. I'll say this isn't really about myself, but working with Brandon Bean and with the Buffalo Bills probably prepared me more for this job than I would have been in other sense, so what I mean by that is the general manager position is truly, generally managing a lot of things and when I came up through, you know, the NFL, you're doing the personnel stuff and you're at colleges and you're watching film or you're watching pro or you're making suggestions, but you're not dealing with trainers, you're not dealing with the strength coach, you're not dealing with PR, you're not dealing with media or whatever, you know, the ground screw, whatever it may be and, you know, being around Brandon for five years, really he allowed me to work with those groups across the entire football operations, which made me feel very comfortable in this seat from day one. I've never felt overwhelmed or if it was too much for me and that was something that was always in the back of my mind, are you ever truly prepared to sit in the seat and do that job and, you know, again, maybe that's a pat on the back to Brandon, but basically I learned about myself, my time with him was very valuable in terms of what I'm doing today and, you know, some of the success that we've had early on with Brian, being in lockstep in terms of how we want to build things, a lot of that's from what I learned from Brandon. Well, it's really remarkable what the bills have done because for years that organization has just had to rotate in new people after new people. Now you look at your organization like the Giants, they're trying to be like Buffalo, bring it in you, bring it in Brian Dayball, it speaks to what they've been able to build in Buffalo. Yeah, no, they've got a legit roster right now and again, that's their year six.

You know, people forget that again, you know, in today's day and age, everyone wants instant gratification and their year six of that build and, you know, they've done a good job of it. They started through the draft and they started supplementing with free agency. You know, they had a year in 2018, some of, you know, where we are now, they had over 50 million in dead cap money and you kind of had to take the hit and then they came out on the other side in good financial shape and stacked together a couple of drafts and, you know, now again, year six, you look where they are, they're going to be a tough team for anybody to beat. I went to college with Dion Dawkins. He's a close friend of mine and yeah, he's a great guy.

You know, he's never changed since the person I met his first day at Temple. But early on in like 2018, he tweeted this out that you just got to trust and believe because something special is brewing in Buffalo. For you, when did you realize that something special was brewing in Buffalo? It was probably once we got out of 2019 off season, you know, we had built a new facility, you know, where we added on, I should say to, you know, the weight room, the training room and then we also had money. So we signed some free agents. You know, we had a quarterback on a rookie deal, you know, we had a second draft class come in and you knew Josh was going to be a guy and then we were able to surround him with some talent and Buffalo is a special city. You know, the fan base is amazing.

Western New York is awesome. Love living there and it was probably 2019 when, you know, I could feel the momentum starting to turn and you know, we won 10 games that year and we were up 16 to nothing at Houston at halftime and ended up losing that playoff game. But that's when you knew, you know, they were going to be good for a long time. All right. I started you with food. I'll end you with food and I'll let you go run and be a dad and enjoy your bye week. Buffalo Wings. Where do you go to? My favorite is Bar Bill in Buffalo.

Bar Bill, that's it. That's the one. That's the spot. That's the house. So we would, we would go there where we, it's hard to get in there sometimes so we would order take out there. But that's, that's a great spot.

Wait, even tougher you to get into. Yeah. Yeah. I was just, I was nobody. I'm just an assistant GM. I loved it back then. I was, that was discreet.

Nobody. That was nice. Well, I appreciate the time. Thanks so much for carving out some time for us during the bye week and good luck the rest of the way.

Appreciate it. Thanks for having me. There he is. I probably didn't want to insult him because it would just be an insulting question. There's no way that he actually does so because he goes to Bar Bill. But I'll take Hickey. I think it's safe to say since he is a wing connoisseur that the Giants general manager and Joe Shane would not eat boneless wings that you prefer over regular wings. I mean, look, I there's not much of a difference if it's just if the wings are sold out difference you get the bonus. It's what do you mean? Now you're moving the goalposts here. If the wings are sold out, I'm just saying like you're saying it's like for boneless though over your regular without a doubt every day of the week.

I'm just saying like, you know, you're making it so that no one will every bonus ever. I'm just saying Joe Shane and I would love to know I would love to know if you had the option of actual wings from Buffalo. No shot.

You would be like shunned from the from the city of Buffalo. You walked in. Well, Joe is free now. So I feel like you can give an answer. He's free.

No. He'd be thrown in Buffalo when he's not a jail like you. If he was still with the bills and said, oh, I prefer boneless wings over bone in. I mean, I'm sure everyone would freak out and get fake anger about how, you know, we got fired Joe Shane. I mean, you might get fired for that in Buffalo.

I'm just saying that it's not fake anger. You're just they taste just as good. Nothing. One thousand percent less the mess. I am so so wrong that they taste just as good. I've had boneless wings before. So I'm playing them like compared to the actual wings anyway.

More for me. Yeah. You know, have fun.

Have fun at your your own party where you're the only one in attendance there. It is Zach Gil show on CBS Sports Radio. When we look back at this trade deadline, winners and losers. Let's go through the winners. The Miami Dolphins. I love what the Dolphins did yesterday, right?

Because they have a window here. And the NFL is more open this year than in years past, where we discussed this yesterday. There's only three great teams presently right now. And those three teams currently that are the three best teams in the NFL, the Eagles, the Bills, and then the Kansas City Chiefs. So if you're a team like the Dolphins and you have a window here. And you have a good team and you have a good roster.

Why not enhance it? And getting Jeff Wilson Jr. with familiarity and that's not the biggest move they made. But it improves their running back room and you now reunite, I guess, Raheem Mostert and Jeff Wilson Jr. with Mike McDaniel who they know.

You give another option for Tua Tungavai Lo who already has a ton of weapons in Tyree Kill in Jaylen Waddle in Mike Gosecki. And then oh yeah, by the way, you had a good defense. You made your defense even better, acquiring a player like Bradley Chubb, who is a very good player.

His only problem in his career has been staying healthy. I like what a team, even though no one went into this year saying Miami is gonna win the Super Bowl. And I'm not saying people are saying that now, but they've realized an opportunity and you adjust your expectations where maybe just making the playoffs this year.

Yes, that's the bare minimum for the Dolphins, but it could exceed that. And you never know how many chances you're gonna get like this, where if there's only two great teams in the AFC, if one of those teams get really injured, and then one of those teams, the other team gets picked off. If you're the third best team in the AFC, who knows, maybe you're in the Super Bowl. And Miami, not saying that they're the third best team in the AFC right now, but they have a chance to be. And look, we're talking about before the Phillies kind of get a little bit lucky with the bracket breaking the way it did for them. To avoid a team like the Dodgers, I mean, look at last year, you had the Chiefs bills in the divisional round of the playoffs. So like the Dolphins, let's just say, other side of the bracket, like you could have avoid at least maybe one will see how it goes. But it's like, you're right, like- They could be the Bengals.

They could absolutely capitalize. And it's right now in a jumbled NFL, good for them for going all in and good for them too. And you look at the draft, the first round picks they've traded for, and the players they've gotten back.

Boy, oh boy. Tyreke Hill, Jalen Waddle, now Bradley Chubb, if he could say healthy, it's a nice little bit. It's kind of crazy, the 180. That's going to be done on Chris Greer, because there was a lot of questions when Brian Flores was let go.

And I know that there was more to it. But a lot of people thought at the time, well, if you're letting go of Brian Flores, maybe also get rid of Chris Greer, because that Tuatunga Vailoa draft pick, it's starting to look better. It's starting to look good for the first time this year with the way that he's played. Because the games that he starts and finishes, they're 5-0.

And the games that he's not started and finished, obviously, they have not won their own three. And like you mentioned too, the past previous years, there was thoughts of who's actually in charge of Tuatunga playing. We thought he played too early. This is a Chris Greer decision. There was a lot of dysfunction around the Dolphins where you're right. Now Brian Flores is gone, Tuatunga is healthy, playing well, you're at a big 180. And I don't want to discredit Brian Flores, because Brian Flores was a good coach, but his one flaw was he was never able to find any sense of consistency and continuity on the offensive side. The only thing that was consistent was they had 9,000 coordinators. They had what, four coordinators? In three years, you may go, Zach, that doesn't add up, because they had the dual co-offensive coordinators that one year. And just like as you're seeing in Miami, where a coach gets let go, and I know that the Brian Flores situation was very controversial, it was clear him and Tuat did not see eye to eye. You look at it like Minnesota, which also won the trade deadline yesterday, going out and acquiring TJ Hockinson. You're seeing what happens where crazy thought the coach actually likes the quarterback. Because just like how Brian Flores didn't like Tuatunga by Loa, we knew Mike Zimmer was done with Kirk Cousins. And you see this team with the Minnesota Vikings, Zadaria Smith has been one of the better offseason acquisitions in the league. And now you have an offense with Dalvin Cook, Justin Jefferson, Adam Thielen, KJ Osborne's playing well. And you add TJ Hockinson, just like Miami, where you now look at Minnesota, no one into this year thinking Superball, and it still may not be something that you think is going to happen. But it is open, and you have a possibility, so why not leave?

Why leave there be an opportunity where you didn't exhaust all your options at the trade deadline? And I like what Minnesota did as well yesterday. And what it also does, if things, let's say, don't go your way, or the quarterback can't elevate his game, is there's no excuses, right?

Like it's, okay, we got everything there. If Kirk Cousins struggles, we know, okay, you know what, everything else is there, we just got to find the guy. I also like what the Steelers did yesterday, because it was clear that they had enough of Chase Claypool. It's clear that Chase Claypool is a good but not great wide receiver. And Chase Claypool is someone that was most likely in Pittsburgh, wasn't going to get a second contract. So you trade him to a team in Chicago, and when they trade him to a team in Chicago, and they get the Bears actual second round pick, that is almost like an extension to the first round. Like you're going to be picking early in the second round. I think that's a good move for the Pittsburgh Steelers, who I think are starting to be honest with themselves, that they're in the retooling phase of that franchise, and they got a lot of work to do. And these next two drafts are going to be enormous for the Pittsburgh Steelers. I think it almost weirdly sends a good message to Kenny Pickett, that it's like, we will still support you, because we are trading away a guy that should help him.

Right. But I mean, you know, I mean, we're all talking about Zach Wilson, and it's like, oh, Zach Wilson is he in trouble. That's the Jets. The Jets have been synonymous with changes in chaos throughout the years. The Steelers are usually a respected organization or organization that preaches patience, and they get the benefit of the doubt.

I think the scenario is a little bit different. Well, I mean, with Mitch, they gave him three games. Come on.

But come on. That's Mitch Trubisky. No, I'm just saying, like, no one ever looked at Mitch Trubisky like he was a placeholder. Patience and young quarterbacks don't exactly go hand in hand. But in trading away Chase Claypool, it's almost like, all right, hey, we're taking away a weapon, but you know, we're going to try to use that and get a maybe a better weapon in the draft next year.

So they're giving him almost in a weird way a vote of confidence, like there's, we believe in you. Just give us enough time to get a good team around you. Now, let me get to the Bills. You consider the Bills a winner from yesterday? Because I knew, we all knew that they were going to get a running back. That was obvious.

You can't just, when you have an organization that is so close, you don't want to leave any stone unturned. And I don't know what to expect out of a guy like Devin Singletary. I like the draft pick of James Cook, but he's got to hang on to the football. I do think that they improve the room getting Naeem Heinz, who's going to be used in the short passing game, which is going to be an extension of the wrong game.

And we'll see if he gets more carries on his plate, what that will look like. But you look at Buffalo, I thought they were going to get a bigger name at the running back spot. I'm okay with this move. I'm not saying it's disappointing, but I did think they were going to get a bigger name at the running back spot with some of the names that were rumored to be available. Now, like you mentioned, if Heinz is a guy that instead of running Josh Allen, he just dumps it off and he kind of is an extension of the right game.

Okay, fine. I could live with it. That's the biggest thing. I need to take carries away from Josh Allen, because right now he is their best runner inside the tackles. And that's why I thought, okay, a name you've brought up a lot and Josh Jacobs would be a good fit for this team, because he's a tough runner inside the tackles, right?

That's the one thing the Bills don't have. The problem though with Josh Jacobs is he got really hot recently. And even though they didn't extend his fifth year option to him, I think now they may have no choice but to get a three year, four year deal done with Josh Jacobs this off season if you're the Raiders. That's why I don't think he ended up getting traded. I don't even know if he was made available.

When we started that conversation, I thought he'd be available. Then he really became that offense, which is wild with all the names that they have. And I think he played himself in a bizarre way out of getting traded similarly to Saquon Barkley. Now the Raiders don't have a good record. The Giants do have a good record. We thought for sure Saquon was most likely going to be dealt at like at week two when no one knew what the Giants were going to be. And then once they started winning games, you couldn't trade your best player when you're starting the initial stages of building culture and building trust in that locker room like Brian Dayball and Joe Shain are doing. You would have thought the record of two and five would still, like you said, you know, Josh Jacobs has been great, kind of lead them to be sellers, but I guess whether it's Josh Rick Daniels, whether it's Steve Ziegler, whether it's Mark Davis and we're not selling year one.

And that's what they did. Losers from the trade deadline. I don't know if a team lost more at the trade deadline than the Green Bay Packers.

You don't know how much longer Aaron Rodgers is going to play. They're relying on Romeo Dobbs and Christian Watson and Randall Cobb coming back and Alan Lazard. There were wide receivers available. You couldn't find a way to get a deal done for Brandon Cooks.

You couldn't find a way to get a deal done for Chase Claypool. Like there were guys that were available via the trade market and there were a lot of receivers available and you couldn't find the way to get one guy. It doesn't surprise me because this is what the Packers do. Once they got rid of Devontae Adams, before they got rid of Devontae Adams, they never really got Rodgers at the time.

A legit number two to compliment Devontae Adams. There's always hope guys, wishful thinking guys, older guys, oh, maybe they'll finally be healthy. Oh, maybe they'll be able to find the fountain of youth and they were never able to do so. So now with Adams out of the picture, you'd think they would try to find a way to pick up some of that slack and they're relying on young guys unknown where the timing isn't there between Rodgers and those receivers. They should have found the way to go get someone at the deadline and they didn't. And I think the Packers could be miserable down the stretch here. They were a loser.

I'm with you. But I feel like they're a loser more in perception than even reality because if you bring back Aaron like the names, you Jerry, Judy, Brandon cooks, like are any of those guys taking this offense to a play out level? I think Brandon cooks would be a very big acquisition. I think he's a very underrated wide receiver. I'm not saying you're going to win a Super Bowl, Judy debatable.

I don't think Jerry, Judy's all that good. I thought Brandon cooks would have been a phenomenal move. His thing also is health. So I just with the receivers out there, I'm not buying anyone turning around this offense and all of a sudden unlocking Aaron Rodgers and now you're going to get, you know, the Packers scoring 30 points a game. With that said, when you bring back Aaron Rodgers, you go all in on him and basically this next three year window.

I think you have to make a move just to kind of show we're all in instead of sitting patch seeing a weakness and just saying, ah, we'll figure it out. The losers from the trade deadline detection should all be about getting the most picks possible since the Deshaun Watson trade crazy how they weren't able to find a way. I don't know if it's probably contractually, but I couldn't find a way to get Brandon cooks off this team. How about Zach Moss? You go from the bills to the Colts, you know, the verge of winning a Super Bowl or getting to a Super Bowl. And I don't know if he would have been active for the Super Bowl with the way that he'd been playing. But now you go to the Colts who really, they have no hope, they have no future for football this year.

Cam Akers. He was the loser from this trade deadline because he wanted out, did not get traded. Same thing could be said for Kareem Hunt. And then finally, this one, the Carolina Panthers, two first round picks they were offered from the Rams reportedly, but it wouldn't have been until 2024 and 2025. The Panthers already sold on run CMC that deservedly. So they got rid of Robbie Anderson, not the same conversation. I would have take Burns is a very good player. Don't get me wrong.

Brian Burns, very good player, phenomenal. But if you could have got two first round picks, even if you had to wait another year to get the first of those two first round picks, I would have done so because I think this team, even though defensively, they are really good and they can be really good. They have young pieces. This organization still feels as if they are several years away from fixing this. I know he's a young foundational piece, but two first round picks, I would, and who knows where the Rams are going to be two years from now, I would have pulled the trigger on this deal and traded Burns.

I don't mind it. I mean, if the Rams are like, if the Rams stink and they kind of, then I could be eating my words and trying to turn that direction years, like, you know, pick on the top 10. Brian Burns, a good player, London belt, keep them there. He'll be there for the next 10 years as an edge rusher, one of the most important positions you think so until he doesn't want to be a part of the organization anymore.

Well, that's partly on them to turn it around, which that's not a real stable, trustworthy organization, one that you could believe that's going to find the way to get it right. We get you caught up on the rumors, reports and reconnaissance from the day in sports. Let's listen up to Albert Breer. He details when Sean McVeigh could leave the Ramses courtesy of the Rich Eisen Show. I think the way the Rams feel it right now is they've got a core of four players. Really realistically, what we're talking about here is Stafford, Cup, Donald and Ramsey.

And I think there's also, you know, an acknowledgement and you know, it's just something that I've talked about the last few months. Sean McVeigh's future with the team is probably tied to those four guys. And in all likelihood, when those guys are gone, McVeigh is going to be gone too.

And so, you know, I think the way that they look at this is we have to do everything we can to maximize what we've got right now, because we've got a special, special coach and we've got a special core of players. And maybe that lasts for another year. Maybe it lasts for five, but whatever that period of time is, we need to get the most out of those guys right now. I don't think it's trending towards lasting for four or five years. I think this team, it could get ugly really quickly. And you're starting to see that this year. Now they could rebound.

Their season isn't over yet. But here's what I always think about Ryan, is that it's like, let's say Stafford, who right now is 34, let's say he only has like two or three more really good years. When he wants out or his contract runs up, don't you think Sean McVeigh, who could potentially say I'm done.

I'm tied with Stafford. I brought him here. Won a Super Bowl.

We'll see if we could do so again. Couldn't you then see McVeigh, who would get the benefit of the doubt to rebuild because he's such a young bright mind in this game. Couldn't you see him be intrigued by the opportunity to draft the quarterback or find then that next guy? No, because he's ready to walk away after the Super Bowl. Or we think like he was, how much was that was negotiations and things like that? He's got he got a new deal.

I would just have to think I'm not ruling out TV. I think the guy's gonna if he leaves the Rams would get back into coaching down the road. But he never was able to find that young quarterback as a head coach. He acquired Jared Goff.

Then he realized Goff was a detriment to him winning a Super Bowl and he had to go get a veteran guy in Matthew Stafford. I would not be surprised. Maybe it's not in LA.

Maybe it is. But I would be surprised if Shawn McVeigh wouldn't even just contemplate getting two or three years to go find that next quarterback Brandon Bean on if he pursued trading for either run CMC with his Panthers connections or even Alvin Kamara. I know it started with McCaffrey. Yes, that was the last draft. I was there in Carolina know him well, you know, when you hear he's on the block, I wouldn't be doing my due diligence to not look into that.

That leads me to Alvin Kamara. You know, that was the scouts looking into, you know, they put something out, you know, maybe Philly was in or someone I can't remember the team and checked into it never actually got an answer whether he was available or not. And then Sunday has reported on one of the shows that we were rebuffed. Well, I never spoke to their GM about, you know, that's just how the process works.

So I want, you know, for all of us, that's how we work internally. I know you guys have a job to do, but sometimes when you hear we're involved now again, I did own Christian McCaffrey. I did speak to the Panthers GM never made him an offer, but did stay in touch through the process and ultimately it was going to be more than we were going to be able to do. So McCaffrey ended up going for two, three and four in this year's draft and then a five and next year's draft. If you were Brandon beam, you were the GM hot take kick.

You were Brandon beam. Would you have given up a two, three, four and five for run CMC? If you're a Buffalo to be honest, I probably would not. Why not?

Injury concerns with Christian McCaffrey. Sure. And that's right. It's a big hall.

And I was surprised. It was a two, three, four and five. And if you don't win a championship and who knows how many players end up leaving that roster, you could be screwing yourself if you are the, uh, the Buffalo bills. With that being said though, what's a two, three, four and five this year for Buffalo?

With the young roster that they have, I think Buffalo is one of the few teams that I would have say. Okay. I would have given that up. Now, what about this? If you were Buffalo, why not just make it one pick first round pick for Christian McCaffrey and you get run CMC or call up the, the saints.

I don't know if this is on the table. First round pick instead of getting up a two, three, four and five, just give up a first round pick. Cause you remember when Scott Fitter was explaining why they took this deal, they said all that added up two, three, four, five equal pretty much to what they had on their, on their point chart for a first round pick. Cause you want to trade a first round pick for either Alvin Kamara or Christian McCaffrey. If you were Buffalo, wouldn't you feel like you have to now say I'd rather have Kamara for sure a little less salary wise. That's something too.

But CMC good chunk of changes got on top of the draft capital, but like I said, they're all in. Got to make a move. Let's get to Kevin Duran. He gives his reaction basically lies to you on a Steve Nash getting fired. Shocked. I mean, you're always shocked when a move like this happens, but it's normal in NBA, you know, so it's about getting ready for the game tonight. So it's a quick turnaround always in the league, you know, especially during the season, you know, you got practice games coming up, so you can't think too much about it, but you know, it was on a mind full a little bit today.

Yeah. It's normal in the NBA. We get surprised when you request the trade and you wanted Steve Nash fired. If you were to stay, yeah, it's just shocking that Steve Nash eventually got sent back and TJ Hockinson.

And if he was surprised, he was traded at the deadline. I kind of knew I had a little idea. So I mean, I didn't expect here, but obviously super, super excited to be here honestly. So right when I got here last night, it was like, this is pretty sweet.

So like I said, just excited to be here for real. Stunning. It was in division, but good job on the Minnesota Vikings. Let's hear their GM, Kwasia Dofomensa, discuss his excitement in acquiring TJ Hockinson. TJ is a great fit. He's an incredible player in both days of the game.

He's competitive. He fits into our culture. He also gives us a lot of great roster flexibility with his ability to do things in the running past game. So I think we were just excited about the opportunity.

I think it embodies a lot of the themes that we've talked about living in today and tomorrow and all those different things. You look at that offense. What's not to like? I know Kirk Cousins is in a great quarterback, but he's a good quarterback. You got a dominant running back. You have a dominant wide receiver and you have a good cast on the offensive side of the ball, the line, the second and third deep ride receivers, the tight end to compliment those pieces that we just mentioned. I love what the Vikings did at the deadline getting TJ Hockinson. Talk about a big weekend in college football next with Aaron Murray.
