Coming up, we will chat with a former Broncos player and Derek Wolf, who now hosts radio out in Denver, as the Broncos are an embarrassment.

They are two and three. Nathaniel Hackett last night said, Russ, we'll let you cook. And Russell Wilson burnt the meal. Oh, that was terrible.

That was awful. And somehow the Colts, I guess you could say, benefit from it. But in reality they don't because the apex for the Colts this year is just to win the AFC South. And I think Tennessee is better. I think Jacksonville is better. So a win, even though in the win column, yeah, oh yeah, Colts. They're now two, two and one. Salvage their season.

You just distance and distance yourself further and further and further from a good draft pick and you still don't have a franchise quarterback. So anyway, you got five questions, five answers. We play this game every Monday and Friday on the Zach Gelb show on CBS Sports Radio. It's called Onside's Offside. Hot take, Hickey? Hit it! He's live. He's nationwide on CBS Sports Radio. Hit it! Zach's taking on the most polarizing issues in sports. Which side of the line of scrimmage will he end up on? Offside, defense number 69. It's Onsides Offsides with Zach Gelb on CBS Sports Radio. I forgot what this feeling is like. Now I've experienced it in other sports. Football, hockey, a lot more recently. But my baseball team is playing tonight.

The New York Metropolitan's up against the San Diego Padres. I'm usually a guy that is full of energy, Kiki. My nerves are shot right now. Like my chest is tight. My arms are tight. I feel as if I can't speak right now.

So some people may actually be happy with that. I'm like, I'm just ready to go. But all my energy and all the feeling in my body just feels shot right now. And I forgot what that feeling's like. I'm ready.

I'm jacked, waiting for this moment for seven years. We're not even gonna count 2016 for the one-game playoff. Let's go. You gotta count that.

Let's go. I was in the building for that game. That was a game that they lost.

Like I don't consider it a playoff appearance, but it was the right to get into the postseason. And they lost them what was a classic duel between Noah Syndergaard and Madison Bumgarner. But let's hope the Mets win tonight and then I'm in the building tomorrow. Nice little sweep for the Padres would be a very, very, very, very, very much appreciated. You got a feeling that it's probably gonna go to Sunday, right? I think they win two. Two in a row. I have not even envisioned Sunday as a possibility. Oh my god. Let's go. Yeah, but whenever you're very confident with one of your teams, it never ends up well. Can you just please be negative?

No reason to me. 101 wins. Best regular season of my life. Stop. Let's go. But this is what you do.

Let's go. You always get so optimistic and then it never works out for you. You told me the Colts were going to Super Bowl last year. And I also said they played the Rams.

They didn't make the playoffs. Of course, I did not say the Colts were going to the Super Bowl. I did not say that. I did not. You said they were gonna win the division and the Tennessee Titans suck. I absolutely did.

I was still on that until they were mathematically limited. And who was your Super Bowl pick this year? The Broncos. Broncos, Rams. And you were confident about it.

I'm looking good. But the Broncos getting there. Like told me I was an idiot more than a dope for telling me they wanted to make the playoffs. I felt good about the Broncos.

Yeah. And now you feel good about the Mets. And you felt good about the Rangers as well. And the Rangers lost to Tampa when they were up 2-0. You're like, oh, the series is over. You even, you tweeted out, I can envision the parade down the canyon of heroes. I said envision. I didn't say the series is over. I didn't lock it up. Moron.

And I was like Jacob Truba. Talking about a parade before they even get to the cup final. Taking five penalties in a row.

We have something special here, go. When you want to walk into a street when it's one of your teams, that's fine. When it's one of my teams, don't jinx us. Because you are a mush. I'm not jinxing anyone.

Just you are a mush. Sorry for being fired up. You could be fired up, but don't say that they definitely win in the series. And don't say that it's gonna happen in two games because nine times out of 10, eight times out of 10, when you say something, the opposite usually happens.

Alright, what do you got for me? Don't mess with my teams. I like when we're on the same page. You don't mess with my teams. I like when we're on the same page. I've been optimistic all year on the Mets, and that has not failed me so far. I enjoyed the Rangers playoff run until you talked about the canyon of heroes. Because I know what you do. It's almost as if you have a direct line to the sports gods, and whenever you say they go, screw Hickey. Alright, what do you got? One day I will be rewarded, that is for sure.

Right now, that is not the day. Especially with my Broncos pick, because boy, Zach, is there plenty of blame to go around after yesterday's ugly loss to the Colts on Thursday Night Football. Russell Wilson, well, he was just horrible. 21 of 39, threw two awful picks in the fourth quarter, and then with a game on the line, fourth of one, decided to stare down, Courtland Sutton threw it to the best player on the Colts defense, Safon Gilmore, knocked it away, and that is how the game was over.

You're welcome. By the way, Mr. Penn State legend, KJ Hamler, wide open, walk-in touchdown, probably easiest touchdown of his career. Take it easy on the legend. Russ didn't want to look his way, and there we are, sitting with a 2-3 football team through five weeks.

Now, if they don't hack it, he's not, you know, clear blame either. His play calling was questionable, his timeout usage was questionable as well. Onsides or offsides there, Zach. Russell Wilson deserves the most blame for Thursday's loss.

Oh, absolutely. Onsides, it's not even a question. I know Nathaniel Hackett had some bad decisions in that game, but this one was on Russell Wilson. On third down, you could have ran for a first down. You may have been able to run for a touchdown towards the end of regulation. You throw a pick. Then, you got positive yards on first, second, and third down.

Yeah, you could say they've run it on fourth and won. They elect to put the ball in Russ' hands, let Russ cook, and you had KJ Hamler wide open, you didn't even look at him. That's on Russell Wilson. They lost that game last night because of Russell Wilson. Your defense only allowed 12 points. If I would have told you that before the game last night, Hickey, that the Colts had only scored 12 points, and you're a Colts fan, you would have said the Colts lost by how many points? Luckily, I would have said probably by a touchdown.

But you're guaranteed losing the game. If I told you last night the Colts had only scored 12 points, did you want to lose the game? Lost. Yeah, you won. No touchdowns. You won.

Somehow. So, Russell Wilson deserves most blame for Thursday on sides. Speaking of Nathaniel Hackett, let's turn our attention to him because he had another rough game in the national spotlight. Broncos were up three points in field goal range just before the two-minute warning in the fourth quarter. He decided to call a pass play. Russell Wilson threw a terrible pass, but he called a pass play. Ended up getting intercepted in the end zone by Stephon Gilmore. Broncos country, let's ride.

Got some energy. Drove down the field, scored a game-tying field goal. And overtime on fourth and one at the Colts' five-yard line, field goal to tie touchdown to win the game. Nathaniel Hackett rushed to the line or had the offense rush the line of scrimmage.

Seemed to be a cortex leak available, did not do. Instead, they called a timeout. The Colts were able to get lined up, dialed to a pass play.

As we know, that pass play did not work and complete. On sides or off sides, Zach, Nathaniel Hackett will be fired by week ten. By week ten? Week ten. Five more games from now.

Now, I think I was the originator of the fire Hackett bandwagon. After week one, I said Sean Payton should be on the line right now with Broncos ownership and management. So you're saying by week ten, so he's the Chargers, the Jets, the Jaguars, a bye week, and then coming out of the bye they have Tennessee. He will not be the coach next year, but I think he makes it to week ten. So you say Nathaniel Hackett will be fired by week ten? I'm going offside.

Offside. Your thoughts on that one? Mr. Nathaniel Hackett's better than Belichick this year and he's going to be a top three coach in the league? Week ten is a little bit of a stretch. With that said, I think he's actually going to get fired in season.

This is looking. I will wave the white flag on that take. I would be surprised if he makes it through the season. I think it's a lock he's not back. At this point with how it gets worse, I would be surprised if he's still the coach.

That could be your worst take of all time. That Nathaniel Hackett was going to be a top three coach at the end of the year. It comes from a good place in the sense of I just thought that Bronco was going to be a really good team.

It comes from a dumb place. He was basically, I didn't think it was going to be that hard to basically let Russ cook. Just basically say whatever plays Russ wants to run, let's just do that. I thought that was going to be easy. So now I thought Nathaniel Hackett was this great coach.

It's just basically. Russ can't cook though right now. No he can't and I just thought he'd let him do his thing and Russ would be this great quarterback and boy is that not the case. And the Mets just allowed a hit. You said the Mets are going to sweep this series. See, you say a lot of things. Are you kidding me?

It's the first pitch of the game. Get out of here. Get out. You and Frank the Tanka watch a game and just talk about the Mets demise. Whose show is this?

Holy smokes. Get out? You're trying to kick me off my own show?

No. You know I'm going to come to the hot take a key hour today at 2 a.m. and tell you to get out. I'll go home I guess. Boss says I gotta go fellas. Sorry.

And ladies. Go ahead. Alright so you said offsides there.

Okay so number three. Bryce Young. He'll be a game time decision. Tomorrow's Alabama does take on Texas A&M. The defending Heisman Trophy winner sprained to shoulder last week against Arkansas in the second quarter did not return. His backup Jalen Merrill did step in play nicely combined for two touchdowns in Alabama's 23 point win. Now the spread even with Young's status questionable for the game is the Crimson Tide favored by 23 points over the Aggies at home.

And in some books I've seen it as high as 24 and a half. Wowza. Wowza. Onsides are offside Zach. Alabama should not play Bryce Young on Saturday. I never bet against Alabama and I do not like Jimbo Fisher.

I don't get how you don't plus the points here. If I'm getting 24 and a half I know A&M's 3 and 2 and A&M they lost to App State. They just got crushed by Mississippi State.

Here's the thing. So it's an AC joint injury for Bryce Young. I know he's a game time decision. They know by now there's one report that he's not going to play. If he's not healthy enough I think you could survive this week against A&M without him. So if they think there's further damage if they think he's not healthy enough then I would say yeah he should not play. Coming up on Saturday. So I'll go onsides on that one.

Video emerged from TMZ. What's your thoughts on that by the way? I would not play him. Throw in the same pager. Let Jill and Mero play and I honestly would take down the minus 23. Would you minus the 24 and a half? I would.

Wow. I don't think A&M is very good. They have their own backup quarterback and offensive issues.

I would start Wigman but they're going with King. Are they going to score two touchdowns? A&M?

I don't know how. Yeah. They will. They'll score 3. Yeah.

They'll get a garbage time one. Wow. 21 points. I don't know if I'm actually going to bet the game but Vegas is begging you to plus the points. And I kind of feel a little bit like I'm going to challenge Vegas right now. Wow. Z-man taking on all of Vegas. On Monday.

Wow. Did you see the Alabama game? They won 58-3. Jimbo had to take a field goal at the end of the game with 30 seconds left.

And you know Nick Saban is going to run up this baby. I wonder if that has to be a factor into the spread, right? No juice in this game. No hype in this game for where we thought it was going to be in the summer.

No. That is absolutely for sure. I kind of wish that A&M would have won last week.

Because then I know that the quarterback injury but at least it would have been a little bit more of a compelling watch. When you just get blown out by Mississippi State and you also factor in the loss to Abt State as well. Just the product of A&M goes right down the tube. That it does.

That it does. Video emerged on Friday's act from TMZ that showed Draymond Green striking Jordan Poole at Warriors practice. Now the two were about 20 feet apart on the court before Green sauntered over to get in Poole's face. The former Michigan player then shoved Green out of his face.

Green then responded by swinging. I like that. You like that? Yeah, I thought you would just say like walk over, run over.

I didn't know you had the vocabulary. Yeah, he's just taking a leisurely stroll. Wasn't charging over. There wasn't a lot of assertiveness in the walk. He was trying to stir up the pot. Let me just meander over here. And Jordan Poole said get away from me and he pushed him. Which I had no problem with Poole doing that. You got face to face.

Get out of my face. And then Green responds by swinging, connecting. It looked to be in the chin area of Jordan Poole's face before the two eventually were separated. Onsides or offsides Zach, the Warriors should trade Draymond Green. And we have audio from Draymond Green, right? Because Draymond Green, new media. He definitely, honest, he definitely addressed this today, right? And held himself accountable as now the leader of media. He's the new media guru.

Where is Draymond now? Why aren't you on your podcast today? Come on, Mr. New Media. Technical difficulties? Is that a problem? Can't cut the mic?

Batteries ran out? It's so weird. I really vacillate on Draymond. Like there's some years I can't stand them.

Some years I like them and I'm back to can't stand them. That was so weak and gutless by Draymond. Now how'd that get leaked? Did someone get the bag from TMZ or did someone in the organization just go, this isn't right? And they're trying to sweep this under the rug. Oh, we'll handle this internally.

We need to put this out there so people see what actually Draymond Green did. I'm very conflicted. I am leaning towards...

It could be both. Someone wanted it out and they went to TMZ and go, yeah, I'll take a little cut. I would think I'm going to lean towards the Warriors wanting this out.

Now to be clear, I don't know. Bob Myers didn't want this out. I don't think Steve Kerr wanted this out. Someone though in that organization wanted this out because they thought Draymond Green was skating free. And remember Draymond cost him a finals with the whole LeBron James thing. And Draymond got into it with KD as well. So it's not something that is unheard of with Draymond Green. But the Warriors to trade Draymond Green, I would love if they traded him. Like to basketball Siberia would be great, but I don't think they will. And really the tough part is can he reconcile that relationship with Jordan Poole? That's the big question.

So the Warriors should trade Draymond Green. I'm going to go offsides on that one. And finally playoff baseball started today. The Dodgers are the betting favorite according to Caesars. They've won 111 games. Followed by the Astros, Yankees and Braves to round out the top four betting odds.

Zach, onsides or offsides? The Dodgers will win the World Series. So you're telling me the Dodgers are the field?

I'm going to take the field. Braves are going to be really strong. We'll see if the Mets can bounce back. Dodgers have a lot of questions even though they've won 111 games this year.

Astros are also a force to be reckoned with too. If the Dodgers win the World Series, it has to be Dodgers or the field. I'm going to take the field on this one.

So I will go offside. This is Zach Gelb's show on CBS Sports Radio. We will take a time out when we come on back. A new member of the Broncos media doing an afternoon talk show in Denver.

And a former Broncos plier, Derek Wolfe, will stop by. on the Odyssey app or wherever you get your podcasts. New episodes on Thursdays. Do you ever wonder about dreams or deja vu? That feeling on a first date? Yes. Yes. The spark is real. Maybe about where the aliens are, if they exist.

The universe could be infinite. So where is everybody? My name is Mike Simpson. My podcast is called I've Got Questions. How do some animals change color?

What's the best cure for the hiccups? Do you wash your denim? I usually wait four to six months. Kind of feels like a long time. Search for I've Got Questions on the Odyssey app or wherever you get your podcasts. New episodes on Thursdays. You're listening to the Zach Gelb show.

It's been the biggest story of the day. What in the world has happened to Russell Wilson? The Denver Broncos are two and three to start the year. And Russell Wilson just looks lost right now.

Let's go out to the guest line. It is the Zach Gelb show on CBS Sports Radio. He played for the Denver Broncos from 2012 to 2019. Did win a Lombardi Trophy with the franchise. And now you can hear him on the afternoon drive on 104.3, the fan in Denver.

And that, of course, is Derek Wolfe. Derek, appreciate the time. How are you? I'm doing great. How are you guys doing? I'm doing alright. I'm not a Broncos fan. You just hosted a radio show.

Congratulations, by the way, on the new gig. What kind of the field today in Denver after that catastrophe last night? Oh, it's been just overcast, 50 degrees, balls kicking in. I mean, after like, it was a beautiful night yesterday, too, which is... blows my mind that we had fans just leaving the game. Going into overtime. Blows my mind. Yeah, I couldn't believe.

I've never seen. We've seen fans leave early. The game stinks or the game's over pretty much. It's a blowout. You want to go beat the traffic.

That game was that bad that at 9-9 headed into overtime, fans go, Thanks, but no thanks. I've had enough. And I can't really kill him for that.

No, you really can't. People got to go to work on Friday. Gonna hang around and watch this dumpster fire. What's going on with Russell?

It was bad. Yeah, what's going on with Russell Wilson? Because he just looks lost right now. He didn't even look at the right side of the field that moment last night.

Where do you see him with Russell Wilson? Well, I'm seeing him try to be somebody he's not. He's not using his legs. He's not getting out of the pocket. He's making, I think he was a little banged up going into the game. His shoulder was hurting him and bothering him. But for the most part, I think there's a disconnect between him and the players. He's living this different lifestyle.

He has his own office in the building with his own coach that he hired. I mean, to me, that is just, you got to understand, I played with Peyton Manning. Peyton would never do something like that. And Russ isn't Peyton Manning.

Let's be real. And let's be honest, he's not. Yeah, he's not. We don't have to even, he shouldn't even be mentioned in the same breath as Peyton Manning. He's just not. He's not a Hall of Fame quarterback.

And he's not playing. The problem is that there was so much hype surrounding the signing of Russell Wilson and coming to Denver. And it was going to be like, you know, that 2012 to 2016 when we had Peyton. We were just winning games. We were number one seed every year. But, you know, 2012 we did start out two and three. But we didn't see it like this.

It didn't happen this way. It wasn't no touchdown scored. It was, I mean, that was, it's bad football. For him to just, you know, that interception he threw, that first one that he just threw up in the air. I mean, come on, man.

You're not, you're not helping yourself any. And then we could talk about bad coaching this, bad coaching that. Maybe Hackett should have calloused these guys a little bit more during training camp. And we wouldn't see these injuries happen like this because there's just no callous built.

They did. They had it almost too easy during training camp. Which I'm all for just like having a conservative training camp where you're not trying to kill guys. And you're trying to play for the, you're playing for a championship.

So you're trying to push them through to January, to peak in January and February. But you can't have, you can't have your defense hold an offense to zero touchdowns. Have five or six sacks and two turnovers and not win the game. When you have a quarterback like Russell Wilson that you just paid $48 million a year for.

You're right. It does seem like there's a disconnect in the locker room. Russ is now starting to come off as unlikable.

He's trying too hard. The Let's Ride thing at the end of the game was so cringe-worthy. You being a player that understands the locker room, what advice would you give to him? That whole Let's Ride thing has been cringey since the day he said it. It's been so cringey and people are just like, well, I guess Russ is a good dude.

He's a good person. So like, all right, we're not going to pick on him for it. We're just going to ride with it. But now it's like, come on, Russ, what are you doing?

Why did you even say that? Just like, I don't know. I just really think that he's having, I think there's an identity crisis going on with the entire team. Is this fractured beyond repair, Derek Wolf? Like, what's the future look like?

No, I don't think it's fractured beyond repair. There's still time. They're only a quarter of the way through the season.

There's a ton of time still. It's just like, let's see the sense of urgency because I'm not seeing that. I saw a sense of urgency from the defense last night. But from the offense, I didn't see it didn't seem like they cared. It didn't seem like he really like it was like, oh, we're just going to go, you know. It's like they're just going through the motions, you know, like they're not really they're not clicking. There's not they keep saying when we click, when we click, when we click.

All right, well, five weeks in, you still haven't seen we haven't seen any kind of flash of clicking. You know, there's a big play here and there. But the missed opportunities in the shooting yourself in the foot is just ridiculous. It's almost stunning, Derek Wolf, that they lost that game last night. I still can't believe they lost the game. Shocked.

I was shocked. I really was, because I had I thought I thought we were going to see, you know, like a 250 yard game out of Russell Wilson, two touchdowns, something like that. You know, like a respectable game. But I mean, I was a part of some bad Broncos football for four years. Bad. Really bad offenses. But at least we could score a touchdown.

Derek Wolf here with us. So the reason why I asked is it fractured beyond repair? And maybe that's taking it to an extreme. But I feel like now we get caught in this world where Brady plays, you know, late, you know, into his 40s. You see how long Peyton Manning did play, Drew Brees, et cetera, et cetera. You know, the last year and a half for us hasn't looked good. That's why I get concerned when you see the simple things not being simple anymore for him.

And he turns 34 in November. Well, his footwork was is off as well. That's why I think the coaching situation or the his head and having like this extra coach around, I think is a problem. I think that's a problem. I think that we need to take a really need to take a look at that. And I think the organization needs to take a real look at that. I think hacking to put its foot down and be like, look, Clint Kobiak is our quarterback coach. All right.

Not this. I think the guy's name is Jake Heaps. Yeah, he's been in our show before.

I don't know that. I don't know the guy, but whatever he's coaching him isn't working. So we got to try something new. Let's get the guy that we hired as our quarterback coach to be the quarterback coach. And let's get this guy coached up into the system.

How we want to coach him in this is not how this other guy that he hired coached him up. It's hacking. We're going to make it. It's clear.

Is hacking even going to make it to the end of the season? Let's see what happens at the bar. That's when you need to make a decision. Because first of all, when you have fans leaving the game at halftime or going into overtime, that's not good. That's not good for the shield. That's not good for the organization. That's not good for the city. That's bad. Really bad.

I think the viewership was the lowest Thursday night football game of the season. Which tells you everything you need to know. That's bad for the brand. So I think I think what needs to happen is there needs to be some soul searching going on. I think you need to take a breath. Take a breath. Try to bounce back here against the Chargers on Monday night. Great opportunity to bounce back.

I mean, very rarely do you get an opportunity like this to have this kind of time off. Get healthy. Get feeling right. Catch a breath and get it together.

Don't look at the things that you do well and look at the things that you don't do well. And make some changes. Make some real changes as far as play calling goes. And I can't even knock the play calling that bad because there was wide open guys at the end of the game to win. Your quarterback has to make those decisions and he's not making the right ones.

Yeah. Why Derek Wolf did he not even look at KJ Hamler that that final play? I still just don't I can't wrap my head around the guys wide open. I think I think that on his on that interception pass that he threw when he just basically punted the ball up in the air and gave it to the Colts. I think that he got concussed on that play.

So I think that him I think he just was like, all right, I'm going to lock in on my number one receiver and throw the ball to him. Really? Interesting. Regardless, doesn't matter that it's Stephon Gilmore who is one of the best defensive backs of all time.

I mean, this guy was a defensive player of the year, what, three, four years ago? Yeah. So I'm going to keep trying him who's already picked me off. I'm just going to go at him again. That's a smart decision. Here's the biggest problem Derek Wolf. I think he was concussed. OK, here's the biggest problem.

And last thing I'll ask you. You talk about the fans leaving. We know a few weeks back they were they were counting down the play clock.

The fans. This is not only just bad like you've said it. You've been on bad football teams. This is turning into a clown show. And I just fear there's going to be a big divide in that locker room because there's got to be guys that don't believe in Hackett.

There's got to be guys that don't believe in Russ. This it's it's getting ugly early and it's not just ugly. This is a circus. Well, when you've got guys slamming their helmets on the ground after a game and, you know, instead of going and uplifting their their quarterback, you know, guys are looking sideways at him. Like, hey, man, what's going on here?

You get all this special treatment and we're not, you know, the juice isn't worth the squeeze. It's one of those things where I really think this year is a lost cause for them. I just don't see how they turn this around. I would be shocked if this team makes the playoffs. I think I think we just kind of try to win more than five games right now. Try to win eight games.

But I think at week eight, going into this buy, if things don't get better, Hackett has got to go. You've got a 60 billion. You've got an owner worth 60 billion dollars.

All right. This guy's not he's not worried about paying off a coach, right? He's not worried about paying off a coach and bringing in a Gary Kubiak or maybe a Sean Payton.

I'll see what happens. We know that the story's not going anywhere, especially when they do play in primetime once again next week. He's Derek Wolfe from The Drive.

On one of four three, the fan in Denver, former Broncos defensive end, did win a Super Bowl with the franchise. Congrats on the new gig and appreciate you carving out some time for us. Absolutely. Thanks for having me. No problem.

There's Derek Wolfe. So a lot of interesting things there. Do you ever wonder about dreams or deja vu, that feeling on a first date? Yes. Yes. The spark is real. Maybe about where the aliens are, if they exist.

You're listening to The Zach Gelb Show. 3-0. Padres up over the Mets.

Hickey, thank you very much. Told you not to mess with my teams. Don't toy with my emotions. And you had to say that the Mets are going to sweep this series and now they're down 3-0 so far very early in this game. What do you learn just to listen to me? Save all the takes, save all the bold claims for the Colts podcast, for all the teams that you root for that I don't root for, that we share a common interest.

So I don't have to be a jerk to you and a douche to you and start to tell you that this is your fault. You say they're going to easily, no doubt, they'll clearly take both these games and we won't even need a game on Sunday. And so far they're down 3-0.

I tried to warn you, Hickey. You do this to yourself. It's really disheartening. We're inning and a half in. I'm not worried. You just had a six-year-old throw a ball back on a home run.

Go for the kid. It's playoffs, baby. You're not worried, 3-0? We're in the second inning.

Hickey. Can we get some runs? No, they can't.

That's the problem. They can't hit. Well, they had runners on last inning.

It's got to get the one hit. And did they get any runs? See, Atlanta series right now, all over again.

Scherzer's not being Scherzer. They're allowing home runs and you get guys in scoring position and you can't take advantage of this. Man, I would love to be a sports fan like you and just think everything is just wonderful and we're going to have rose petals thrown at us and everything's going to be so easy. Down 3-0, man.

I hope they come back, obviously. But I don't feel good. I feel bad for you.

I do. Yeah, you feel bad for me. Living a world of pessimism. No, no, no. I'm not a pessimistic person. See, the game's over 3-0.

No, no, no, no. I'm saying that you thought this was going to be a walk in the park easy against a good Padres team and they were going to take both these games like it was nothing. I never said that. I thought they were winning two games. You said they were going to win the two games. That doesn't mean they're going to blow them out.

It's playoffs, man. Stop backpedaling. I'm not backpedaling.

I'm standing by. They'll win tomorrow. You're backtracking right now.

You're like a corner right now. I didn't say they're winning 10-0 in both games. Good pitching. Scherzer's looking great right now. Well, I'm saying, for the Padres, they have good pitchers.

Runs are going to be tough to come by, but I'm still staying where I am. OK. If they lose this series, it's on you. You're the one to blame. No, I'm not the one putting the balls over the plate. You're the one that guaranteed this series. And you said they were going to win in two games. I asked you, you know... Did you think the Mets were going to win this series? Did I think they were going to win this series? I thought they were going to lose tonight and then I thought they were going to win Saturday and win Sunday. OK, so you think the Mets are going to win this series?

Yes, I do. So if they lose, it's on you too. No, it's not. Because I'm not guaranteeing... I didn't guarantee anything. You asked me, do you think the Mets are going to win? I said they were going to win in two. And you said I guarantee they're going to win the next few games and it's going to be easy. I never said we're guaranteed. I thought they were going to win tonight, win tomorrow, and that's all.

Come on, come on, come on. Just like you guaranteed the Broncos were going to win the Super Bowl this year. You're a mush. That's what you are. You've become a mush. Well, Rams, I guess, say otherwise, but what are you going to do? That's the one thing.

I think he's going to be 75. I predicted the Rams were going to win the Super Bowl. All right, college football this weekend. Quinn Ewers is back.

I feel weird saying this because the game is kind of... I don't want to say irrelevant because Red River is a big deal. But Texas is no bueno.

Now you get Ewers back. We'll see if Dylan Gabriel is even going to play for Oklahoma, but they just... That was the team that you thought was going to college football playoff. Urinated their season right down the drain the last two weeks. I lean Texas in this game. I think timing is everything. Ewers coming back.

Questions about Gabriel. Brent Venables has not made the defensive impact that you thought he would so far. I'm going to go Texas in this one. How about yourself and Red River? This will be a good game. It's always a good game.

Always a good game. Yeah, the Kordak injuries do worry me right now for Oklahoma, so I'll go Texas. So that means Oklahoma is going to win.

Bryce Young. Does your gut tell you that he's going to play for Alabama? I know there's one report that he won't play.

Alabama is doing typical Alabama things. It's going to be a game time decision. I would be surprised at this point if I'm tuning into this game tomorrow night.

8 p.m. Eastern. A game that you thought was going to have a ton of buzz, a ton of juice before the season. And really this game, Vegas has A&M depending on what book you're looking at. Anywhere between a 23 to a 24.5 point underdog. So I'm going to think that even with that being said, Vegas clearly thinks Bama is going to win regardless of who the quarterback is. I'm going to operate under the belief that Bryce Young isn't going to play tomorrow.

Same. Yeah, I think at this point it's going to be Jalen Millerow. I think it's fine. They'll still win the game no matter who's a quarterback. The only question is will they cover the spread. Now the expectation for A&M is that Haynes King is going to start. Max Johnson hurt with the hand injury done for the year. If I'm Jimbo and I know you have a young quarterback, a lot of people have a lot of confidence in Connor Wigman and it's tough to throw him to Alabama, especially this Alabama defense. And I know you can't take it from the other games that happened in Texas. They had a quarterback go down Quinn Ewers and the backup quarterback was able to do a nice job. At this point, if you're A&M, you already have two losses in the resume. You already lost to App State. Going back to Haynes King here is a is a rough call. I know you don't want to throw your youngster to the to the wolves of Alabama, but you got nothing to lose. I would go Connor Wigman in this one. Here's a thought.

Yes. Now there's rumors about Jimbo Fisher or there's just talk about Jimbo Fisher's job security. How hot is a seat? Obviously, you know, we'll see. I don't know what Texas A&M is thinking.

If you're Jimbo, though, you obviously have to know the noise that's surrounding you. Do you use Connor Wigman and the five star recruit as like a chip to keep your job for next year or you don't play him this year? You go back to Haynes King. You basically say this is a developmental year. We're planning on playing in 2023 anyway. And you basically try to sell hope that, kind of like what Matt Nagy and Ryan Paisted when they drafted Justin Fields of, hey, you got to keep us because we're going to get this kid in the right spot. Just give me next year in 2023.

I want to be careful in how I say this. That'd be motivation to not play him this year. You could be on to something, but I think it's really a fabrication right now about how hot the seat is for Jimbo Fisher. I'm not saying he's not in danger of losing his job. I just don't think he's in danger of losing his job yet. I'm not even in the line of thinking that Jimbo is gone after this year. Now, next year, his tushy is not only on fire, but if he gets off to a bad start, he may not even make it through next season. For me, though, I have a tough time envisioning that Jimbo Fisher is not back next year. I would not think that way.

I would not be passive. Once you start thinking about how am I going to save my job and not get fired, how am I going to buy myself until next year, then I would get rid of the coach. But I think Jimbo knows, and Jimbo always has an arrogance to him, that Jimbo knows he's going to be back next year. So I would just go with Wigman anyway right now. What's the upside of going to Haynes-King? Seriously? Nothing. So that's what you go with Wigman, and even if he falls flat on his face, you could just use a simple excuse.

It's Alabama. If this catch-up must be that good, you shouldn't be ruined after one game. And you could always pull him if you need to. You could help him out a little bit.

You could have floaties on him a little bit. Tennessee-LSU at noon. I hate that this game's at noon. This should be a 3.30 p.m. Eastern time kick. Or an 8 o'clock kick as well.

Preferably 3.30 p.m. Eastern. Between Tennessee and LSU. This is a big spot for Brian Kelly. And for Tennessee, if you're still down and they're undefeated, not that this is the last test in terms of doubting them, but if Tennessee wins again with the way the Henton Hookers playing and Josh Heupel's coaching, I don't know how many more doubters there are about Tennessee. I think everyone realizes they're a really good team. Are they going to win the SEC? No. Are they going to win the SEC title game? No. But this is one of those last stands where if you still haven't jumped on the bandwagon, if they find a way to win this one, what else are you going to say at this point?

Realistically talking. I think it is important for them to play a full game. We saw against Pitt, they struggled and pulled it out late, but it was kind of back and forth and Pitt had to use a few different quarterbacks who got hurt. And Pitt just lost to Georgia Tech.

Yes. And we saw the last time they were on the field against Florida two weeks ago, blew them out and looked good for three quarters and all of a sudden the fourth quarter basically took the foot off the gas and had to hold on for dear life. Just play a full game against LSU and at least get that momentum going into Alabama next week. Season on the line for Utah. Season on the line for Utah every other, every week from here on out until they drop one because you lose that game to Florida early in the season, you then have to win out. This UCLA team, I'm liking them because I like their quarterback in Dorian Thompson Robinson. I think that Utah is a more complete team, but you know what?

Bleep it. UCLA coming off a big win against Washington. Utah's the better program.

No magic still in the works here for Chip Kelly. I'm saying Dorian Thompson Robinson gets the job done and UCLA wins. You're going with the Utes because you picked them to go to the college football playoff before the year started, right?

I also think they're a tough physical team. I think that's going to give UCLA problems and there's no home field advantage at all. Yeah, there's no fans there, period.

Oh my goodness. 12-30 nonetheless too. Local time. They would love for their fans to leave before overtime. That means people are there to watch in the first place. Because those fans don't even show up. TCU-Kansas.

I have no feel on this one. TCU comes off that big time win up against Oklahoma. Kansas, a magical job by Lance Leipold. They get two wins last year.

That was great. And then you see what they're doing so far this season. College game day is there. Noon Eastern kick.

Once again, that game should not be Noon Eastern as well. But no one thought this was going to be some big time game before the year started. Where do you lean on TCU-Kansas? I like both teams. I'll go TCU. Kansas had a magical season. Everything's lining up for them. This might be the week that TCU plays spoiler and just continues their red hot offense. So I've been there when the Cinderella darling gets college game day. And then it just doesn't work out for you. Where you have the lead in the fourth quarter and then you end up losing the game.

And it stinks. I'm hoping Kansas wins. But I do think the timing of this is tough. TCU looked awesome last week. So I'm going TCU. And finally, good spot here for Joey Maguire and Texas Tech. He's done a nice job so far. But I love what I'm seeing from Spencer Sanders. If I had one wish the rest of the college football season.

Well, that's actually not true. If I had two things that I could wish for. I want Michigan to be the highest state. And I want Oklahoma State and Mike Gundy to go to the college football playoff. Oklahoma State an upset alert? Close game as they are. I'll take the pokes, though. Alert.

Make sure you have your wits about you. I think they win close game. This is Zach Gelb's show on CBS Sports Radio. We'll give you one thought on each and every NFL game when we return. Mets have a man on third with two outs. They're down 3-0 into the Padres.

Hickey said the Mets would easily win this series in two games. Do you ever wonder about dreams or deja vu? That feeling on a first date? Yes. Yes. The spark is real. Maybe about where the aliens are, if they exist.
