The religious leaders of his day believed Israel was under the rule of Roman subjugation the Roman Empire because the Jewish people were not serious enough about keeping the Sabbath. They were keeping the rules that rabbis were teaching the nation that was signed would not could not come, he would not come from them. He would not release them.
He would not arrive until they Perfectly the set. So this is not a trivial matter.
If this is a matter of national importance, and Jesus isn't helping the calls, noticing the crux of the matter. Verse two.
Why are you doing what is not lawful on the Sabbath. What you doing why you doing what are supposed to be doing. What are they doing walking through.

Here he doesn't get into a debate on the nuances of the technicalities of their application or misinterpretation of the law. He basically says you mentioned that we were doing is unlawful about much of the law because it brings the passage to my mind go back to first Samuel chapter 21. Let's take a look again at something that happened here. I'm sure you've read noticed with six verse three you not read. I know you've read this. So let's go back, have you not read what David did when he was hungry.
He and those who were with him how we entered the house of God took and ate the bread of the presence which is not lawful for any but the priest to eat but also gave those with not only the priests were allowed to eat this bread after it had been replaced. See, this is the heart of legalism. The Pharisees are going to use Scripture to justify whatever they want to justify and condemn whatever they want to condemn but Jesus is and let them play games with God's word so he will watch the sort of puts in our hermeneutical headlock here and effectively says look at David for eating consecrated bread condemn us for eating raw grain. By the way is little history lesson Jesus makes ever so slightly. The implication of the connection between David who was God's anointed, and himself, who was God's. The Pharisees now this moment are just sorta standing there in order mouths open, realizing that Jesus just checkmated them and their sort of mulling over the implication of this analogy between David and I went to Jesus you know and Jesus lots of you and I just sorta stood many moves from giving him a little history to dropping the hammer just giving them a little theology. And he said to them, the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath. Now the Son of Man happens to be a favorite expression. Jesus uses for himself. It's a messianic title of favorite title. He'll use and it means that that that the Son of Man is sovereign over the Sabbath. No way. The second who created the Sabbath God Genesis chapter 2 at the end of creation week. So Jesus is essentially saying here what happened to be the sovereign who created the Sabbath because I'm more the Lord over it at the creator is always greater than that which is created so just announcing to you. I am creator God, did they get better believe I got it. You can imagine the shock of the statement Jesus is essentially saying you've taken the Sabbath and you've twisted it all off with your traditions and your laws and your ordinances while untangling taking it back. It belongs to me while I am Lord, I am Jehovah, I am Jehovah over that which I created no were not given the reaction here. I think Luke wants to save it for the next event. So let's go to verse six on another Sabbath. Note that this it looks as well here we go again on another Sabbath he entered the synagogue and in this time is teaching, and a man was there. His right hand was withered and the scribes and the Pharisees watched him. Jesus, to see whether he would heal on the Sabbath so that they might find a reason to accuse him.
Mark's gospel Matthew also includes this by the Mark's gospel uses language. It informs us that this man was not born handicapped.
Something had happened that had caused him to lose the use of his right hand. In fact, only Luke, however, being the doctor tells us which hand it was it was the right hand, which made his condition all the more perilous the volume so Dr. Luke tells us that his right hand was with her that Greek term means dried up atrophy towards his muscles to that graffiti.

You know, to find a dentist or an available doctor usually don't operate on Sundays, but for them it would be unlawful. Anyway, that the rabbis taught cold water could not be poured on his sprained ankle or hand you said that you know suffer through it a cut finger. We we can all play the role Pharisee with great skill and precision. Jesus knew what was going on and notice rights. Luke does in verse eight, and he knew there thoughts of this original construction betrays that he knew their thoughts all along. He knew it all along. He knew what they were thinking before they'd even showed up. He knew what they be thinking at this moment, he knew that they thought this was going to be the perfect set up to catch him once again breaking the rules, but Jesus is going to set them up to reveal once again who we was verse eight. Luke records but he knew their thoughts, and he said to the man with a withered hand, and stand here and he rose and stood there had to slow down.
This is going to be a public demonstration.
Jesus is not you know I got a whisper little world of healing. At the end of the services people are filing out and in this man looks down. It was one my hand is healed. How that happened, who did know not that at all. This is a standup in the middle of the congregation in the middle of the service so that everybody can be great. It was going be right in her face is NBA all over him of these Pharisees and how great is this go get on ward. I ask you, is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good work to do harm to save life or to destroy it. That's helpful to understand that Matthew adds to this account that Jesus listed in the illustration about how one others. She fell into a pit when they bring it out rather than wait while it suffered in misery and then Jesus ends that illustration.

It's possible to appear religious and high heart of rebellion against God. I also imagine this place, erecting with joy and tears and hugs this man's family more than likely among them, and anxious wife perhaps wondering how they will ever survive the future. He can't hold his stonemasons tools. He refuses to bag what in the world are we going to do. Suddenly their lives are turned right side up. Miraculously, it's the authority it's it's the power of the word of this man who is indeed able to do on the Sabbath and with the Sabbath anything he wants to do can't miss the power of his word here strikes me. Jesus says to this man stretch out your hand and he believed and applied the word of Christ was life will change the rest of his life.
What about us. Jesus said to these Pharisees. Have you never read you will say that often have you read what he means is I know you read it, but you're not getting it. Your reading it, but you're not believing that your reading it, but you're not applying it to your alive, it's possible to read the Scriptures without applying the Scriptures to our lives. It's possible what is the tax and miss the truth what is it about God's word. You have difficulty applying to your own heart. If you come in today. You're finding it difficult to apply truth of God's faithfulness to God has said, I will never leave you nor forsake you. Hebrews 13 five. Have you never read that what you have read what you'll find it.
God will never leave me nor forsake me, have you never read are you doubting your salvation. Jesus said whoever comes to me I will not cast out. 637 did you come to him yeah but you know I'm really not sure. I came to them in the right way like they were the right words are given the right motive force. I came in the right spirit of you know was I really repented when I came that I really understand exactly what I meant to do or should do what I came with findings to the full impact of what would happen when I came did you come to him, he will not cast you out, you never read Jesus says to this man.
Reach out your hand. You can reach out his hand on work is muscles are gone, we can feel his hand, much less movement, Jesus tells him to do something impossible to go against everything he feels everything he knows everything. He is become everything he knows he can't do. Reach out your hand.
Much of that moment in the word of Christ is believed, and in that moment of obedience. He experiences a miraculous occurrence. Everyone's effort.the point Jesus is Lord of everything. Thanks for joining us today.
