And people are flooding into the churches right now in Cuba. And the other problem that comes along with that is because there's so much turmoil on the island, that so many people are just, they're escaping the island, they're leaving the island.

Over 2 million people have left the island in just the last five years, which has brought their population down from 11 and a half million down to less than nine and a half million. And with that, a lot of pastors have left. So lay people are being raised up to, you know, to be able to preach.

How are they going to get their education? Well, they can grow deeper in God's word through Trans World Radio's radio station on the island of Bonaire that broadcasts into Cuba. It's a 450,000-watt station, Robbie. And this blowtorch, compared to any other radio station in the entire Western Hemisphere, it's the largest radio station in the Western Hemisphere. And God has put it in our hands to preach the gospel. Right.

And you can imagine, I mean, as everything is crumbling around you, and you can't, you know, sort of take care of your family or whatever, and you begin to, you know, really reach deep for questions, you know, how amazing is it? And I remember when we've, it seems like, I don't know, it wasn't terribly long ago that we were funding a new transmitter or something for Bonaire, you know, that originally Trans World Radio got there just not terribly long ago, was it, John? That's exactly right. Like I said, it's the largest one in the entire Western Hemisphere, and God has put it in our hands to use. You're exactly right. One of the guys I met when I was in Cuba, his name is Luis. And Luis stands probably about, oh, five foot three, five foot four, he's a small man, but yet he's one of these guys that when he talks, he bubbles, you know, he's, you know, the kind of people I'm talking about, who kind of, you know, when they're talking, they bounce up and down.

Yeah, yeah. And they're using their hands a lot. Well, Luis had found Jesus by listening to TWR and of course he had to tell his wife and she listened and she found Jesus. Well, then they started inviting people over into their apartment and I was in his apartment. Their apartment was probably, I don't know, 800 square feet.

Everything was made of concrete, concrete walls, concrete floors, concrete ceiling, no glass in the windows. That's how very, very simple this place was. But yet the place was overflowing with people because they kept inviting people. And because it was overflowing, they decided we need to make another Bible study in another part of the complex. So they started another one and it started overflowing. Then they started another one. It started overflowing. Then they started another one in the next complex over. And he kept on doing this. Well, then they decided to go into all the world thing.

It pertains to them too. And so they decided to start hitchhiking over to the next town. Well, when I had met Luis, and he lived right there in central Cuba, when I met Luis, he had started—are you ready for this, Robbie?—17 churches. He was mentoring a leader in every one of these churches and it's a good thing that he and his wife were hitchhiking because Luis was blind. Oh my goodness.

Oh my goodness. You can see what Jesus does when he touches his soul. And we have a chance really to help out the church while it's getting some movement there in Cuba. Again, the number to call is 888-988-5656.

There you go. And so there's a lot of politics that are going on right now, too. And, you know, people are getting fed up with the politics, and that's why they're looking for answers. That's why they're turning on the radio, and that's why they're finding TWR. Listen to this great thing here that says, you bring light to those who walk in the shadows, the spring of living water, to those of unsatisfied thirst, and you are the tool in the hands of our Lord. That's one of the testimonies.

Here's another one. I greatly enjoy the sermons from all pastors, and I always learn something new to reinforce our study of the living and effective Word of God. How about this story?

So there's a family that has, they wanted to listen to some of the children's programming, and so each night they would ask their dad to turn the bicycle that they had upside down, then they would hook a generator to it so they could power their radio. They're ingenious, I'm telling you.

They're great folks there. And so the dad did not really agree to, you know, he didn't believe in God or anything like that, but every night they would turn the bicycle over, hook it to the generator, hook it to the radio, and he was listening to the children's programs too. Well, then he started listening to this and find out, you know what, this is pretty interesting, and he would listen to the next program and the next program, and before long that dad also came to know Jesus Christ. Wow, they were peddling for Jesus. You know, that's just, I just pictured that scene.

He's no longer an old crank, is he? Well played, John, I like that. But, you know, that's right. You know, it's amazing because, again, you were talking about they have blackouts just constantly.

Constantly. And wow, and so they found a way to get past that and, you know, isn't it amazing that God would provide such a thing? Because I imagine that not only is there not any other Christian programming available, there's probably not much programming available at all that wouldn't be, you know, communist written of some kind.

Right. Well, and like I said, Transworld Radio, TWR's programs are the only Christian radio that they can hear on the island of Cuba. They were tired. And the one says, let's give up. And the other one says, no, no, no, let's go up around the road here and around the corner, and if there's a house, we'll knock on the door.

But if not, we'll call it a day. And the other one relents. He says, OK.

So they walk up the dirt road. Sure enough, there's one more house. They knock on the door. The lady of the house opens the door and they introduce themselves.

Hi, we're here to share about Jesus. Well, she closes the screen door. She shouts to her husband, honey, they're here. Then she opens the door and invites them in. Now they're curious. They said, well, why did you say, honey, they're here? And she says, oh, we've been listening to Trans World Radio and we've been we've been praying and we've been saying we've been asking for someone to be sent here so they could share the gospel with our whole neighborhood. And we knew you'd come.

We just know when. Isn't that awesome? Right. That is the power, though.

Oh, you're bad. But nonetheless, I you know, when I hear that story, you know, how cool is it? I mean, really, how cool is it that once they they themselves had a relationship and knew how to pray that they'd been taught how to pray. And and then to see that answer to prayer. And unlike the lady that answered the door for Peter.

Right. These people answered in complete faith, like, oh, it's about time you got here, you know. And what you'd like to have been sitting in that room to see the look on the one that had been really tired.

Like, I don't know, we're about done for the day. And all of a sudden, like, oh, my goodness, you're an answer to prayer. And, you know, I don't know if you've ever had that experience where somebody said, oh, man, I have been praying that you would come. I've been praying that God would send somebody.

You know, how amazing. Because not only did it obviously affect that whole neighborhood, but I'll bet you those two missionaries will never be the same. You're right. In fact, that whole neighborhood had the opportunity to hear about Jesus because those two missionaries had come.

And because the missionary of radio was there even before those two missionaries had come. That's the beautiful part, I think. Oh, it's the airdrop that you're talking about. Right. And it's kind of cool when you think about it. I've always thought about prayer as an airstrike.

Right. And so, you know, the airdrop came in so that the prayer warriors could start the airstrike to open the door for the missionaries. Who then I know had to be so much more encouraged to do what God had called them to do there in Cuba. You know, they were there exactly where God had called them. And they just had to feel like, man, how awesome is it to be where you know God wants you to be? Like, you might be feeling that right now. And, you know, God's putting it on your heart. And, you know, what a neat thing, you know, to just to be able to obey, not understand exactly what God's doing.

And so many Spanish-speaking countries oftentimes will have trouble understanding their Cuban brothers and sisters just because of the speed. But listen to this testimony, Robbie, real quick. It says, in Cuba, we have not found a magic wand that changes our pain to joy, but we have found a God who gives us calm in the midst of so many storms. And that calm is so important.

And so when you think about those children's programming that's going out there in the evening, and they don't have access to other entertainment, clearly, if they're having power outages and all this other stuff. And so here's this children's entertainment. And we all know from many, many, many bus ministries and churches here in the United States, when children get Jesus, they naturally evangelize their parents, right? And that hope comes to the whole family through these children's programming. And children's programming costs money.

It just does because it requires people to speak the language. It requires different types of creativity and things to reach children. And clearly you can hear through the testimonies that that's working, right? And so what an opportunity, because there's something about a young child's enthusiasm, right, when they come to Jesus. But I bet you got one last good testimony to bring us out with, John. Well, you know, it's interesting.

I do want to finish my story. We were talking about Alex, who was the chef who had gotten fired and became the pastor. When Alberto, our director for Cuba, came down to visit him, he noticed every time that Alex was wearing the same outfit. And so he just quietly walked back into Alex's bedroom, looked in the closet and found no clothes in his closet. So he didn't say anything, but he went back to Havana. And next time he visited Alex, he brought a whole bunch of clothes with him and gave them to Alex. Well, a little time goes by and Alberto comes to visit him again. He's wearing the same clothes that he has always been wearing. And Alberto says, why aren't you wearing some of the clothes that I brought and gave to you?

And Alex sheepishly looked at him. He says, well, I gave them all the way to the people. They needed them. So that was the kind of church that Alex was part of. And this just shows you the kind of generosity and the kind of love they had for each other. And they're willing to give away just about everything so that people can hear the gospel.
