You're listening to the Truth Network and TruthNetwork.com. We're raising the roof today on Truth Talk.

I'm Stu Everson. With me is the founder of Red Letter Roofing. And you hear that, you think, what is that? What do these folks do? Well, you're about to get the whole dose right here because we are raising the roof and Steve Burns is helping us do it. And you're giving back in the Give to the Giver program.

I want to get into that, Steve. But tell us, what is Red Letter Roofing and what is it about roofing that connects people to the Lord and the kingdom of God, even in your name? So Red Letter Roofing is obviously the name of our company, but we rebranded our company about four years ago. And just to keep it short, Red Letter Roofing was brought, the name was brought to us by one of our employees' wives. And we thought that Red Letter Roofing would be a wonderful name to honor God in what we do, but not to carry Jesus on our sleeve as a salesman kind of deal. So it's an opportunity that when somebody asks who we are and where we came from, it allows us to share the gospel through the name.

So you have this name. And so, I mean, obviously, you know, I love the verse in Peter. It says, be ready always to give an answer to him who asks you about the hope that is within you. So you probably get a lot of questions just like that verse about Red Letter Roofing. Like what is, what is really going on here? We do, we get, we get questions. Who is Red Letter Roofing?

Why Red Letter Roofing? And again, that, that allows us an opportunity to introduce, tell our stories and tell people about Christ and what he's done for us. Yeah, it's interesting because I think in my mind, all the, the verses about how he's our shelter, right? Our hiding place in a time of need. And you're literally providing shelter and, but you're, you're not hiding the fact that you love Jesus. And how, how are you able to be, to intercreate the gospel and to be a Christian in the roofing space? You know, where maybe some folks had a bad experience with a roofer, right?

Or someone says, oh no, one of these Christians, you know, I don't know if I want to deal with them, but tell us about how God's used that as a blessing. Yep. So, we started the Give to the Giver program several years ago and we partnered with Certain, Certain Teads, Certain Teads, a local company in Oxford.

So the products made right here in North Carolina. And I said, hey, look, we, we want to, we want to use our platform to help some people and others do similar, similar things, but we're, it kind of came to us and we wanted to help folks who truly had a need. Like the kind of person that is always doing for other people.

But yet they're, you know, their house is, their house is leaking and they can't, maybe can't afford it or for whatever reason. So we, we put it out there and we ask people to give, give nominations for somebody like that. And we've had, we've had a couple really amazing stories. We had a woman in over in the Wilson, Wilson area, Eastern North Carolina, that was a widowed wife. She had a grandbaby that, that she was taken care of. And we won't go into all the specifics of that, but she was, she was the only provider and she was always, the way that it came to us was she was always helping her family.

She was always giving to them. And when we went in there, we not only put a roof on her house, but we felt like we needed to help her other way. So we kind of rallied up with some of the friends and contractors we know, and we were able to do some other really nice things for her too.

There was a, a wife in, in the Benson market that, that we were able to help her and her, her husband, just a normal family, hardworking guy, but just could not get ahead. But again, a family that had a true need for a roof and we went in there and replaced all their decking and gave them a new roof. And, and it's not only are we giving back, but it also shows our employees that this is, this is how we, this is how we can serve others. And a lot of those guys will volunteer their time or, or they'll donate not just their time, but they'll say, Hey, we can, can we give our, the money we're going to make today back?

So we've done a little bit of that too, which is, it's amazing. So I'm Stu Everson. This is Truth Talk. I'm with Steve Verns. Why in the world, Stu, would you be talking to someone who is a roofer who goes all over the country, helping repair, you do commercial, you do residential. You're based here in North Carolina in the Garner area, Raleigh.

We're sitting in Raleigh at a cool little cafe here with a little bit of soft music and some hot tea being served. Well, we like to showcase the answer to my question and your question. We like to showcase businesses who are kingdom minded, who really want to advance the gospel through what they do. And Steve Verns at Red Letter Roofing, you know, that's your commitment. You just described this wonderful program. It's a, it's really a kind of like our Jesus labor love. You know that Robert Dilmore does with Keenan pursuits and Christian car guy, helping those who can't help, you know, who are struggling, who are in a mess and a bind. And you go in, you love them with the love of Jesus.

And you're, you're really doing that with a Red Letter Roofing. In a sense, you're not divorcing your faith from your business. You see, you see the two is one and tell, tell our listeners why that's so important because I got all kinds of folks listening right now. Maybe they're a mechanic, you know, maybe they're a seamstress, maybe they're a pro athlete, perhaps they have a bakery, they've got, they've got a gift and they're frustrated. Maybe they're, they're in a car dealership and they're just frustrated because they don't see, how do you see your faith in your work?

How do you connect those two? So, you know, we're all, we're all fallen. We're all sinners. And, you know, we're saved by the, by grace, you know, through Christ. And for, for me, you know, it's important that not only fellow brothers hold me accountable in what we do, but I'm, I'm intentional about letting folks for two reasons. Let other folks know like that we are, we're a Christian company because I feel like when you put it out there that you're held to a, you know, a higher standard.

I think that that, you know, many times we're, we're attacked for, for that, for doing that. But letting other people know helps to hold me accountable to you know, do what is, do what we should do as, as Christians. And, and I just, you know, I let people know that, look, I'm, I'm a sinner too. Like I'm not perfect. And you know, we, we have the, we have God's grace that, that will, you know, that has carried us.

So, yeah. So being a believer and having a business that you've totally dedicated to Christ, that you're, you're seeing it as a service, as a way to share the Lord out there everywhere. You don't see anything, you see it as, as part of your faith and it makes you want to put a better roof. It makes you want to fix that leaking roof. It makes you want to even work harder because the Lord drives it and you know, it makes it even more excellence involved.

That's true. So, you know, we, we don't we don't we always want to do the right thing. And there there's, I'm careful to not talk bad about other people, but you know, I think that if folks just talk to others who have done business with us, if they go on look at the reviews that people have done about us, that tells the story and it shares how we go to market and how we, you know, go above and beyond. Yes, we're in business to make a dollar and support the 30 plus families that are, that are in red letter.

But we always want to do the right thing and, and be honoring to God in that. I love it. I want to read right from your, your, your information, right from your website that you have right here. Red letter roofing specializes in commercial and residential roofing for projects of all sizes and types throughout the Southeast. Curious about our name?

Steve's like, I'm so glad you asked. We choose to, we choose it because red letter means memorable and of special importance, including the words attributed to Christ in the Bible. The name reflects our company's values and how we feel about each client. For us, your project is not just a business transaction.

It's personal. We are out to earn your trust and provide value that makes you feel the day you chose us was a red letter day for your business or home. I love how you all are presenting Christ in honoring him in your work. Red letter roofing real quick. One more plug for the give to the giver program.

It's going on right now. Just let our folks know how they can involve. They may want to enter someone who's, who's in a tough time. Maybe it could be a Western North Carolina person.

I mean, they're, they've been hammered by this hurricane. A lot of folks have lost their roofs completely, but how can folks subscribe to learn more about rather the roofing in general, but also specifically the give to the giver program that you're really promoting right now. Yeah. So, uh, if, if you go to our website, www dot red letter roofing.com on the right, right there on the homepage, there's a little button link that says give to the giver. Uh, you can click on that. Uh, there's a very short form that comes up where you can nominate someone.

And, uh, those nominations are going to be received through about Christmas. And, uh, at that time there's a group of us, not only, uh, in red letter, but outside in the community that we bring in to help, uh, pick the, uh, the right family, uh, to, to receive that. So yeah, red letter roofing.com.

And is it true? You care about every shingle customer, right? We care about all our customers.

I had to get a little pun in there. We're raising the roof. Good to talk to you, Steve. Thanks for your witness.

Thanks for what you're doing. And we love to showcase these kinds of things. We'd love to tell your story. Reach out to us.
