Yes, whatever you do, keep a straight face. I love to laugh. Loud and long and clear. I love to laugh. Uh oh.
It's getting worse every year Before I left. Oh. The more I Bill Whit Oh no. Oh no, The more I'm a merrier me, it's embarrassing The more I'm a merrier me Yeah. Let's talk Packet High!
I can hold it. A daily program powered by the Truth Network. This is kind of a great thing, and I'll tell you what. Where pop culture, current events, and theology all come together. Speak your mind.
And now, here's today's Truth Talk Live host. When was the last time you laughed So hard that you Cried. I've got... Doctor Date the word Carson with me. Candy uh Yeah.
He asked me this morning, he said, How many senses do you have, Robbie? And I said, Well, I know the straight answer is five, but I'm thinking there's something else coming. And and Nick's n looking at me. Do you how many senses do you have, Nick? Oh I I think there's five, right?
There's regularly five, but you need to have six. And the sixth one is what, Dr. Carson? A sense of humor. Oh, geez.
Oh, boy. Anyway. That's going to be a great shot. Yeah, I'm looking forward to it all the way.
So. Here's the question today. I want you to think about it. As much as it is fun to laugh with my friends or my wife with Dr. Garson, which we do all the time.
The funnest thing I can think of is to laugh with Jesus. When he. He has a sense of humor like And to me, people that I know that have a wonderful relationship with can relate to when did they, did Jesus just pull something on them? You just went, oh, oh, oh. And you laughed with Jesus.
When did you have that experience where you just were just, okay, you got me. Like, that's it. Call us 866-6666. 348-7884. 866-348-7884.
So here's a perfect example for me, and I've got so many. It's, you know, because he. He loves to do stuff like this. About three years ago, I get a word of the year, and my word of the year was to engage. And so it became quite obvious the way he wanted me to engage was to memorize certain pieces of scripture.
So I started out: Robbie, I want you to memorize the 16th Psalm. And at first I thought, well, that's just wonderful, because I really need to anyway. I love the last verse of the 16th Psalm. I really do. In his presence is fullness of joy.
That might have something to do with laughter. At his right hand are pleasures, laughter, forevermore. I was I thought, well, how cool. I'll I'll memorize that so I'll know how David got to there. Right?
Which is a marvelous song, just wonderful. And I got done with that one, and I said, Okay, Lord. Where are we going now in this idea of engagement? He goes, Well, I want you to memorize the 13th Psalm. And I went, and these were my exact words, like The thirteenth Psalm, What in the world is the Thirteen Psalm?
I hope it's not long.
Well I flipped to the thirteenth Psalm and the very first verse is How long, O Lord?
Well, you hide your face from me, actually. But nonetheless, I'll never forget the look on my face. I know that I was just laughing like you got me. How long?
Well, after I got done with the 13th Psalm, he had one last laugh because then it was like, okay, God, I memorize the 13th Psalm. It is awesome. And I can't tell you how many times I'm so grateful I have that in my heart. Then I said, Lord, now what? And he says, Well, I want you to memorize the 119 Psalm.
Lord, how often Yeah, right. Why not Psalms 117, Lord? Are you sure? Not 119. It only has 176 verses, Lord.
Yeah, but it turned out just to be one of the most glorious experiences of my life: memorizing that psalm because it had so much to do with Hebrew, which I love. Nonetheless. He laughed and I laughed and and I've laughed forever.
So I know that that's probably he's done something. That just got you. 866-348-7884.
866-348-7. 7884. What about you, Doc?
Well, I just I want to Say that I'm not sure if our listeners could have heard, but when you asked, when's the last time you laughed with Jesus? We just had a loud clap of thunder here. It's like, whoa, what's he trying to say right there? We're having a little bit of a thunderstorm here in Winston-Salem. Um Yeah, you know, uh laughter can can uh be a great medicine.
And um I I Read Ecclesiastes that it does. It says there's a time to laugh. And I think the person that helped me the most with this idea of having laughter in your life is Chuck Swindahl. And he wrote a book called Laugh Again. And part of it was: it seems like we got stoic in our churches.
And you talk about. Laughing with Jesus. And I can remember hearing people talk about there's nothing in the Bible that talks about Jesus laughing.
So I don't know why we should have any laughter in church.
Well, I I think there's a component of Inappropriate laughter. But there's there's components of joy. And it's expressed through laughter. And as you're experiencing the goodness of God, and you just can't help but there's a laughter that comes out. Again, not laughing at someone.
but laughing about how God works. I and it's a medicine. And so when did you enjoy that medicine? Hours ago. I'll take me back to the question.
Well, I I I'll have to say that there's there's too many times to really tell. Um Uh I think one of the times that it caught me off guard is as I was going through a difficult time. Um something happened with their dogs in our house and uh they were just carrying on big time and and and and I started laughing. And I didn't realize because of the stress of what I've been facing over a couple years. Wow.
That um Katie, my my daughter, says to Mom, Mom, It's good to hear Dayett laugh again. And I I didn't realize I had I'd lost joy. because of the trial and the turmoil. And that laughter as it came back and I I realized one of the things that was now hurting me physically was I I wasn't having those times to laugh. And And there is You start getting some of the good jokes that are clean.
And what I've enjoyed about you, Robbie, is that you're able to tell a joke.
Now, one of the jokes on me is I can't tell a joke. If you ask me to tell a joke, the joke will be that I will blow the. Punchline, is that the word? I don't even know what the word is. Nick, I don't even know what punchline is.
And you knew I would have some for you, Nick, didn't you? You knew that it was going to happen, right? Oh, yeah.
Well, I hope you have a cannibal joke. I need to hear that. I love cannibal jokes, by the way. Anybody that knows me well knows I may save some of those for.
Well, I'll just go with one. Do you know what you get when you show up late to the cannibal party? If you come late to the cannibal party, you know what you get. Oh, I think I know, I think I know, I think I know. I'm looking for Nick's answer here.
You knew because I told the Joe Cron. I don't know about that one. You get the cold shoulder. Oh. Well, Robbie, when you show up at my house, when you show up at my house, I hope you come with the finger food.
No, yeah. That's a good one.
So You know, if you Gone to making them Boats in his attic, do you know what the problem may be? In making boats in your attic, you know what the problem might be? I don't know. Do you know Dr. Carson?
Sails go through the roof. Yeah. Just to show you that we got a few. Maybe you got some. Maybe you cut a story where you laughed where God got you.
866-348-7884.
866-348-7. Yeah. I'd love to laugh. I do think we need to talk about... Does the Bible encourage laughter?
Oh, oh, we're going to get to that. We're even going to get to the Hebrew word. He does. Listeners, you got to come back and you got to call us. I bet you most people, if they think about it, most people that know the Bible would know the word laugh in Hebrew.
I bet they would know, and they'll get it in a second. I'll bet. We'll be right back. 866-348-7884.
866-342. You're listening to the Truth Network and TruthNetwork.com. Last time it took us three dies to get him down.
Some people laugh through their noses Sound is something like this Yeah. Red foot.
Some people laugh. Through their teeth, goodness saints. Hissing and fizzing like snakes. We love to laugh here. There's no doubt about that.
And how about you? When did you laugh? With Jesus, and we we have a very special caller before and you can call. We would love to hear from you too. You would be very special if you called, I assure you.
866348-7884-86634 TRUTH, Stu Epperson. You're on Truth Talk Live. Guys I love the show. I love the topic. And it's a relief.
Everyone is so amped up nowadays and so intense and angry. And you got all this politics. And so to hear. you guys going back and forth, two very funny people I love that. Another question, like maybe sub subheading of the show today could be Christians take themselves too seriously.
Yeah. Have you ever noticed that? No, where are the smiles? Where is the laughter? And like Dr.
Carson, that's a great word. You know, we're not talking about b you know, just being dismissive or making turning everything into trivial sarcasm. But it does say a merry heart doeth good like the medicine in Proverbs. That's exactly right. And I know this one.
Uh you know, from a guy who Was taking himself too seriously. He had a girl said that he had a face like the back of a boat. Did you know that one, Stu? No, whatever. Yeah.
He gave her a stern look. Yeah, yeah.
Well Well, and then there's the other, then there's the other hitchhiker story about just assuming. Just uh just assuming everyone is okay when they're not. You know the the hitchhiker guy You know, he he finally got picked up. Finally, after hitchhiking for hours and sticking his thumb out there, his thumb was getting tired. Guy w pulls over, picks him up.
And the first thing the young man said when he got in the guy's car is, man, I can't believe.
Someone finally picked me up. He said, Why'd you do it? I mean, He said, What if what if I was a serial killer? And the driver said, Well, I figured what are the chances of two serial killers in the same car. That'll wake you up.
Yeah, no doubt. Yeah, so anyway, that'll put the corn flake in you right there if you're not careful.
So, yeah, there's a good question. Maybe you can answer that one. 866-348-7884.
Do Christians take themselves too seriously? But we got one more for you, Stu. And since we got the music ready, I heard it in the background just a little bit.
So. Right? Before surgery, the anesthesiologist offered to knock me out with gas or a boat paddle. I'm not even going to try to guess what it is. It was an either-or situation.
Either or. You know, Sue, only Robbie. Only Robbie. Oh, my soul. I'm really hoping at some point we'll meet Eileen.
I lean on the Lord. I'd learn that Gilbagetti. Amen. Thank you, Stu. God bless you, man.
You guys are a blessing. Just remember, Stu. He who layeth layeth. And last and last and last and last. Man, and that's amazing.
And you know, the smile, I mean, it's true that it takes more muscles to frown than smile. But it's also true that just smiling at someone can chemically impact their brain, just smiling at someone. And you know, the other thing I've often talked about has the reason to smile, it's believers. Right. And then when you think about a smile, and I do this, you know, I do a lot of devotions at nursing homes where I also tell my jokes.
And uh What I'll do is I'll say, Did you know that that A smile It's one of the fruits of the Spirit. You know how I can show you? I said, because any fruit has got seed in it for more fruit. And if I'll get in anybody's face and smile, they cannot not smile back. Right?
You just kiss him a big old smoke. Look, you've been on the air so long, I still have people that call me and say, I just love to hear Robbie laugh. I don't even listen to his jokes. I just love hearing him laugh. And they're like, I turned that.
And if by the way, shameless plug for your Kingdom Pursuits, your Christian Car guy, your weekend shows, which are spectacular, which I listen every Saturday I can. You are given some of the you are creating some of the best stuff that rivals the tonight show. And it's just it's it's Hilarious. And so keep it up, brothers. And Dr.
Carson, oh my, I tell you right now, you're. your ministry and your date, the word, and You guys are both witty, and I love you. And I'm going to hang up and listen as I'm driving in the rain here. All right. God bless.
I love you, man.
Well, you know, Stu said about being healthy and um I I read that it's bad to suppress your laughter because when you do, It goes back down and spreads to your hips. No. Yeah, that can happen. Don't suppress the laughter. It'll leave a mark.
866348-7884-866-34Truth.
So I promised it Hebrew on laugh.
Okay.
So you might know that one of the first mentions of laughing in the Bible is Sarah. And she laughed. It didn't go too good for us. Yeah, but Yeah, you did.
So she named her son He laughs, and his name you may know is Isaac. And so you can hear. And and by the way, you know, when you think of it, That zik part of Isak is, you know, there's a yud before the zach, which is laugh.
So it's he laughs.
Well, A picture of Christ in so many ways, certainly in the picking of his bride.
Okay.
And so If you don't think You know, Jesus laughs.
Well, let's just think about. Isaac's name for a minute, okay? But then what amazes me more inside of that, inside of the word Isak or just Zach. Is of two of my favorite letters in combination in the Bible. King David, as I memorized in 119 Psalm, you could see the statutes were very near and dear to his heart and his life.
There's only two letters in the word statue, and it is a het. and a kuf, and those two letters make up the word statute. And both letters are very intimate and very holy. The kuf is the word that begins holiness, kadosh. and the het is the word for marriage itself, for union.
And so you get this idea of this holy union is inside of the idea to laugh.
Well, when you get into that group of people and you are laughing so hard that you feel like Ed Wynn, that you're going up to the ceiling, It is intimate. You know, something happens between you and another person when you're laughing so hard that neither of you, you know what I'm talking about? It's one thing to laugh on your, you know, which, by the way, the whole reason that I started laughing on the air so much was that I was in the studio and nobody was there laughing at my jokes.
So I was like, man, somebody here has got to laugh. And, and, and, and. You know, that was The idea of telling these jokes, which is so much fun. But nonetheless, it's a very, very, very. intimate, close to God's heart thing from my standpoint.
Especially when you have him in prayer. in the process. In other words, you're not just laughing me and Dr. Carson, but we're laughing me and Dr. Carson and the Lord at the same time because believe me, in his presence is fullness of joy.
Well, how do you express joy? Victor Burgo said, laughter is the shortest distance between two people. It's just something about laughter that creates a bond of friendship. I mean, who can you laugh with? Exactly.
Yeah. Exactly. And I can tell you, if, you know, and I hope a lot of you listen to Masculine Journey, but that group. I it's a rare Tuesday night. We record Masculine Journey on Tuesday nights.
And it's a rare Tuesday night that we don't get into something that we just cannot stop laughing about. And, you know, that's just the way that group is. And it's, um It's a treat, right? To have friends like that. That you can really, really.
And of course, I'm blessed because I got three of these friends sitting right with me. I got Randy and Nick and Dr. Carson, and we all laugh. Constantly, all the time. And that's why we're healthy.
Because it's a great medicine. You know, you were talking about Sarah, and I just want to throw it to our listeners again is how this plays out. Genesis 21, 6, Sarah said, God has brought me laughter. And everyone hears about this will laugh with me. Again, how is God Brought laughter to you.
We want to hear from you. 866. 348-7884. Oh, I would love the calls. You know how I love them.
And Make My Night. Give us a call. 866-348-7884.

Whoops, don't you two start? Come back down here. Free. Let's provide the warning. Wait, get up my nose.
The forward America Yes, we are. We're Marrier Me, 866-348. Seven eight eight four What do you think? Do you love to laugh or d do you think that Some Christians take themselves too seriously? Or when was a neat time that you laughed?
with Jesus. We would love to hear any of the above. 866. three four eight seven eight eight four. You know, just since you got my music there, Nick, we We want want you to miss this was Since I love the whole pirate thing pirates and cannibals, they make good their good humor.
So A young man joins a pirate ship and he notices that the captain has a peg leg, a hook, and an eye patch. This is Captain. How'd you get the peg leg? And he goes, Aw lad, I lost me leg. The cannonball took it clean off.
And the hook? Oh, lost me aunt in a sword fight with the Royal Navy. And how about your eye? Seagull wrappings led. The young man frowns.
Seagull droppings. How could that make you lose your eye? Hi, this is me first day with the hook. Yeah. Eight, six, six.
Three, four, eight. That's a good one.
Seven to eight, eight, four. We got Mike. In Dayton, Ohio, I know he loves to laugh. Mike. You're on Troop Talk Live.
I'm good. I'm good. Hey, um how do you what makes a Okay, um What do you call it? A dad joke? What makes a dad joke?
What makes a dad Joke. I can hardly wait. What makes a dad joke, Mike? It's apparent. Oh.
That is very apparent. Very good. Very apparent when it comes to it. And when I think of. You know, dads.
You can't help but think of Dr. Carson, can you? He just he has that dad joke. feel to him, you know, and he's got him too.
Well, what do you call a joke book about eggs. Probably some yolks involved. I don't know. My brain's trampled right now. A yoke book.
Oh, there you go. A goat book. It's not always cracked up to be, right? See? See?
And my kids would go, that's, yep, exactly that. Dad, that's a dad joke. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Be shelling out some more after a while. Mike, Mike.
Yes, sir. How? How. How important do you think it is it to really have a sense of humor? Oh, it's uh very ins important.
Um to be lo you know, you when you when you crack a joke, people's peop people bond with you a little bit and uh and they uh accept you a little bit more when you when you um just uh cut You know, you just cut a little bit on them or whatever. You know, you don't mean anything by it, but You're just trying to get. To get to know the person and by getting to know the person is really nice. You know, it's uh Nice to have friends, that's for sure. And um by by b not being so serious, it's it's it's easier to get along with the customer or the work work person or Or their pastor or What did you read a second ago, Dr.
Carson, about? Employers and empl Years ago, there was a survey done with seven 137 chief executives of large corporations and they found that 98% of the responders said they would hire a person with a good sense of humor over a person who lacks humor. It's just something about it's they're much better to be around. Yeah. No matter how much they are around.
866. I'm waiting. I may have landed for the joke. You did. That was a good one.
866-348-7884.
Thank you, Mike. As always. Yeah, go ahead. You got something else? Let it fly.
Let it fly. Okay, I I got I got my uh my w met my wife and we went on the first date and The whole time we went on the first date, it was it was the fourth of July. And we're laughing at the fireworks, and we're laughing together, and we're, you know, just enjoying each other the whole time. And I said, after that date, I said, man, I gotta marry this girl. She made me laugh the whole time.
And I swear. I married my wife because she made me laugh. And my wife, I talked to my wife about this before I got on the air, but she's not going to tell you anything. She's just not. You married her because she gave you a merry heart.
That's right. Mary Heart. Yeah. I don't even think I kissed her before we got married. You know what I mean?
And it was. And it has been an awesome relationship Since day one, we've been co getting closer and closer every day. And laughter is a huge, huge part of it. I I swear it is. Yeah.
I just want you to know I kissed my wife for the very first time. at our wedding. Because our wedding was the first time she was my wife. Yeah. Well played, Doc.
So so when I so when I do weddings, I will say, and now you may kiss your wife for the very first time. And everybody's like, to kiss him for the very first time? Yes, because they just became husband and wife. There you go. I love it.
Beautiful. All right. Well, thank you, Mike. You have a great sir. Thank you.
God bless you. I appreciate that. That was awesome. 866. 3487884.
If you don't call, you're going to be subjected. Yes. Because I'm starting to tell jokes. 866. That could be as bad as my senior.
3487884. And so maybe. You want to take on the idea of, and I would love for you too, where Jesus laughed in the Bible. We know that he wept. Mm.
But is there a clear picture of when he left? And I told Doc, when I think of it, The one place He may not have been laughing so the boys could hear him, but there ain't no doubt in my mind he was laughing.
Okay, there you cannot hear this story and not think of the humor of it. That You know, he had Died. He'd been resurrected. You know, the boys. not knowing what else to do, being men, they went fishing.
There's a Bible verse that I love to apply. It's in John 21 where it says, I am going fishing. And that's what Peter said.
Now, they were supposed to be waiting on Jesus in Galilee, but he said, I'm going fishing, but now you carry on with your story.
So They went fishing.
Well, you know. Jesus is going to restore Peter, you know, with breakfast and all that stuff. But before that happens, Right. Here it's you know, it's They've fished all night long, and anybody that's ever fished all night long and caught nothing has this sense of. You know, this is drudgery.
And You know, they go by this little island. We don't know where he was, but it was on the beach. And Jesus hollers out, Catching anything? Obviously. I never really thought of it that way, but that's good.
Catching anything, boys, because that had happened to him before. Right. This is deja vu for Peter. I mean, big-time deja vu. But on top of that, just the whole idea of hollering out to the boat full of people that you know.
I mean, Jesus knew they had caught nothing. And so it's just like. Caught anything, boys. If you don't catch that as humor, you know, I don't know what to say. But to me, You know.
After they Picked up all the fish and whatever, and Jesus and Peter says that the other ones were just poking Peter like crazy. You remember, oh, I'm a sinful man. You remember that, Peter, the last time we went through this routine? You know, get away from me, Lord. It's a comical scene that sets up.
When you think about it, the restoration of Peter. And I know in my heart of hearts that there was a great deal of laughter that morning. Before it got serious, no.
Someone said managers who use humor in their presentations with employees come across as more approachable. I think that's true. I think that's true. And Jesus, as he gets these disciples back together, especially Peter. You know, I've got to talk to you.
We we gotta get some things resolved. Yeah, I could s I had never thought about Jesus kind of laughing at that point because there I've been told I've been told you won't find Jesus laughing in the Bible. He wept and Again, I think maybe Christians are taking themselves a little too serious. And that's why, again, I so love Chuck Swindahl. And that's why you ought to get his book on Philippians, because you know what it's titled, Laugh Again.
And it's the idea of not just laughter or laughing at someone, but it's the real joy in our heart, the real rejoicing in our heart. And so you've got me, Robbie, on the uh on the Genesis 21:6. I just keep coming back to it. Sarah said, God has brought me laughter. And everyone who hears about this will laugh with me.
They're not laughing in a negative, they're laughing in a great way. It's a time of rejoicing with her. And Isaac, what a word, laughter. All right. It's it's it in Psalm one hundred twenty six, two, our mouths were filled with laughter.
Right? So do you d what do you think? Is laughter just fun or is it deeply spiritual? Right. That's a good question.
And and isn't there a spirit of laughter? I mean, when you think about it, like, have you been affected by it? Like, you You find yourself walking into a bunch of people that are laughing, and what's so funny, right? And then all of a sudden you hear it, and then the next thing you know. It's like a fruit of the spirit.
It's got seed in it for more laughter. You all are laughing. And the next thing you know, it's just. It it it can take What becomes a difficult situation and make it variable, make people approachable, of course. Just think about it in your own heart.
That You see this person up there, the very stoic or whatever, versus this person over there that's enjoying themselves and laughing. And which one do you want to walk up to and say, I got.
Something I gotta talk to you about. Yeah. Yeah. Working with Dr. Jerry Falwell at Liberty.
Very serious. Um but some of the best times we ever had with him He had a belly laugh. I'm telling you. And we'd be at baseball games, and my kids, he would grab them and tickle them and throw them around and just laugh. And we just had a blast.
And one of my sons walked up to him one day and just kicked him right in the leg and it's like, whoa. What in the world? You just left?
So again, like you said, it breaks down walls. but it also builds bonds. When did you do that? When did that happen? What's your story?
It's a testimony, actually, for other people to help them engage. 866-348-7884 is the number to call in and share. 866-34TRUTH. We'll be right back. Truth told.
You're listening to the Truth Network and TruthNetwork.com. Ha ha ha ha ha! We love to laugh Loud and long and clear We love to laugh So everybody can hear The more you are. Whoops, don't you two start? Come back down here.
The play And yes, we do love to laugh. And when you think about the picture of what they are showing there. Right, if you're familiar with the movie Mary Poppins, and you're familiar with the scene when. And Dick Van Dyke and Julie Andrews and the boys, boy and girl, they begin to fly as they laugh because they can become more light. hearted.
Light-hearted. And When you think about it. What did Sarah? Name. The first Jewish?
Board. The very first The boy of the covenant We'll recovet it. What was his name? Why did she name him not just Laughter, but she named him He Laughs? He laughs.
Not just laughs. But why Did she name him? He laughs. I don't know the answer to that necessarily, but I just. It's got to be from the Hebrew.
It's a beautiful thing that. Um The letter in Hebrew that it that it makes the word he is just a suffix. I mean, excuse me, it's just a prefix in this case. It's just a prefix, and it is the tenth letter of the Hebrew alphabet. It is the letter yud.
And it's the smallest, it's the little dot, and it's the little that means a lot. And it's like a God spark when you look at it. And it really means that in so many different ways. And so there is Just a spark of God and laughter from my perspective. But what is yours?
866-348-7884.
How about this one? If you had to sum up. The kind of laughter God gives in one word The kind of laughter not Jokes or anything, the kind of laughter that God gives in one word, how would you sum that up? I love it. 866-348-7884, Doc.
Well, with date the word. If you go to that date the word app, you look at 621, June 21st. Yeah. Luke six twenty one says, Blessed are you who hunger now, for ye will be satisfied Blessed are you who weep now. for you will laugh God knows how to turn the weeping into joy, into laughter.
Um That's Luke 6:21. As you were saying that, I'm just thinking about. And I think for so many of us, we project our father, dad jokes, our father on, like, you know, that he's the image, right? And I just was thinking How much I loved to watch my father laugh. Hmm.
And just like your daughter said, dad's laughing again. Yeah. Because. The father's laugh. Is a special thing.
You know, maybe you heard your father laugh, and maybe there was a time when he didn't, and it made you sad. But maybe there were some times that he just, you could, he was just having a belly, and I can remember when my father would get to the point, like Ed Wynn, there, that he was just. belly laughing. He was just he couldn't stop laughing. Mm.
Maybe I shouldn't tell this story, but I will. One of the first times I ever saw him do that was actually in church. And it happened as a result of his very Um Mischievous little boy. And we went to my Uncle Don's church and it was a Southern Baptist church and I had actually never been in a Southern Baptist church and I'd certainly never been in a Southern Baptist church like this one. And at this particular one, the preacher was standing up there and he was screaming, man.
I mean, he was screaming. And For whatever reason, he started, he took his Bible and he opened it. He goes, You see these right here? These are tear stains. Tear stains in my Bible.
Do you have tear stains in your Bible? And he's screaming at the top of his lungs. And for whatever reason, me being Robbie, it tickled me. And I began to laugh. And you know how it is?
Like Ed Wynn, like, And you're trying to hold it in. You know what I'm saying? There was no way everything was coming out laugh, you know, and all of a sudden my dad got tickled. And of course there's my uncle and he's embarrassed as he could be. Me and my father are sitting there just winking up.
This tear-stained Bible thing, to this day. Yeah. Not I mean, I I I think it's wonderful. I do. that that people have that kind of intense, you know, moment.
They would have tear stains in your Bible. But the way he was preaching it, it was just He was screaming and it it this came off funny to me, I'm just saying.
Well, you just brought up a memory of my preaching that brought about a lot of laughter. Yeah. We were doing a series there at at Liberty and um Another man was doing a series at the same time, but his was on living pure.
Well, I'm in Colossians chapter three. and we had heard like, I mean, seven, maybe eight sermons in a row on sexual purity. And I'm now in Colossians 3, and the first thing it's saying in Colossians 3:5 is that we're to put to death. Fornication. And so I said Now guys, I know we've heard a lot of messages this semester on sex.
But we've got to get serious about sex. Yeah. And I can still see them laughing at me like, oh, why, yes, the bastard owners to get serious about sex. And they are laughing at this woodland. I can still seriously that's the problem.
They are serious. And I was like, Oh my, that did not come out the way I intended it.
So yes, we pastors can sometimes bring hilari bring some laughter. Dr. Falwell said one time, Moses was told by God to take off his feet. That we need to take off our feet. And I'm like, did he just say that?
Did he really just say we need to take off our feet? And it's like, do I laugh right now? Because everybody else is starting to. Like you, uh, giggle and Dr. F uh Dr.
Follow, I don't think you meant feet. Yeah, you got that story. Come on. 866-348-7884.
We want to laugh with you. 866-348-7884.
I love the story of your choir director and Dr. Falwell. That's hilarious. Oh, I. Again, Dr.
Falwell, if you know who I'm talking about, and if you ever knew him, a pretty serious guy with the service. But again, a lot of fun. But he always wanted to know who was doing what. And we had a new choir director at Liberty, first semester there, and he's out leading what's called the concert choir. And Dr.
Falwell leans over to me and says, Dwayne, who is that leading the concert choir?
Well, his name was John Hugo, and he was also my neighbor when he moved to Lynchburg, my neighbor.
So I look at Dr. Falwell, and just with a straight face, I said, Dr. Faldwell, that's Victor Hugo.
So Dr. Falwell walks up there when he finishes sing finishes the song and he says, We want to welcome Dr. Victor Hugo to Liberty University And all the students busted out laughing at him because uh Victor Hugo's, I think, been dead maybe two, three hundred years. It's one of the few times I really got him. And he really, he pointed at me like, what in the world did you just do?
And next week's series is going to be Le Miserab.
So I know you needed to hear one more of these. You you since you didn't call, you gotta you gotta listen. This is a fairly serious story about a guy who It was going to sail his boat to Russia. From England.
Now he started his journey and everything's just going great. until he starts passing the northern German coast and is Ship begins taking on water and in a panic he radios the German Coast Guard. Help, he says. Across the radio. Of course the German Coast Guard replies, what is it?
I'm sinking, the man says back. The radios go silent for a few moments before the Coast Guard replies.
Well What are you thinking about? Uh Oh no! Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, that didn't go over too good.
I like your accent, Robbie. Really good accent. It's fun to do anyway. I sure hope our listeners will look at some scriptures on laughter and I hope they'll watch Mary Poppins tonight. And last night we were out with a couple of wonderful friends and it didn't take, I mean, one minute together.
We were in bond together because we were laughing together. It was so good to see each other. And just... This show, the reminder. The power Of laughter to bring about friendship and bonding together.
Yeah, I've got to. Got to have a sense of humor, Robbie. Got to have a sense of humor. Oh, I I I couldn't agree more, obviously. And I I also think That You know, I've often said that one of the most beautiful pieces of the armor of In in Ephesians 6, Is the feet fitted with the gospel of peace?
Because blessed are the feet of the ones who bring good news.
Well, good news looks like a guy with a big smile on his face and he's laughing. Yeah. This is going to be good news. You're not going to believe what I have to tell you today. Right, right.
And, you know, I talk about that story and. you know, 2 Samuel were unfortunately, you know, David's son. Had passed, but here come these two runners. And, you know, here comes Aethafell. He looks like he's got good news.
I mean, You see these people running and when they're running, You can tell the kind of news that they have. Mm-hmm. And so You can look across the parking lot. You really can't. And you can see.
These people are having a good time. I want that. I don't want to have a bad time. I want to have a great time. And so I hope you have a Great time tonight.
We are so grateful that you listened to Truth Talk Live and Obviously Um You get the last laugh. And you will waste. Yeah. Yeah.
