Hi, it's Delilah. I believe every child deserves enough food to grow healthy and strong. Right now, children are dying from hunger. Through World Help, a Christian humanitarian organization, thirty dollars will feed one starving child for an entire year. Give monthly and provide a year of meals for another child every month while sharing Christ's love.

Call eight three three three hunger or visit WorldHelp. dotnet/radio. From the principal Toyota studios, it's morning in Memphis with Todd Starnes. And a very good Thursday to you. A busy day here at the Mighty Nine Ninety, and a busy day across the mid south as well.

We are so happy that you have chosen to hang out with us today here on the Mighty Nine Ninety. We have a very special guest coming up a little bit later in the program. The president of the Southern Baptist Convention is going to be joining the program, and he is a very special. Message and a warning to people of faith across the mid south. Doctor Willie Rice is going to be joining us at the bottom of the hour, so you're going to want to be be sure to be a part of that great conversation we're going to have with the president of the nation's largest Protestant denomination.

Also, a little bit later on today, Memphis City Council is going to do it again. They're going to resume the. Session that ended in that violent protest earlier this week. By the way, I don't know if you guys have seen this, but Memphis is now national news, national headlines. Good morning, America.

CBS News, TMZ. Everybody is covering the chaos that unfolded at the city council meeting. All of these far left renomab agitators, led by Justin Pearson, they are they're. Causing mayhem because of the data centers, and they want the data centers shut down. They want Elon Musk run out of town.

They say they want Elon's money, but they don't want anything else.

Well, Elon's not just going to come to Memphis and drop millions of dollars, right?

So, anyway, we're going to see how all of that plays out.

Meanwhile, the the city council chair released a statement last night, and it's really interesting. They're trying to appease this renter mob, and it's not going to work. Also, you've got city councilman. Of Ford Canali, who wrote a statement obtained by Fox Thirteen, and said that he is deeply appalled by what unfolded, and said the council fell short of ensuring the safety of people in the council chambers.

So he's calling for a full internal review. He's calling for an investigation. He wants to know whether the appropriate level of police presence and security was requested beforehand.

Well, of course it wasn't. He's also reaching out to the district attorney's office to review what happened with MPD and other officers. You know, this is what gets me. Oh, and here's he also wrote this. Ford wrote this.

Charges should be brought where the evidence and the law supports them. Quite frankly, they need to haul in Justin Pearson. And by the way, all of you far left agitators, can I say something about your your? And Savior, the the Afro Jesus. Can we talk about this for just a moment?

Afro Jesus was standing in the back of the room. This is something you need to pay attention to. This guy, he agitates and stirs up, but then he positions himself so that others will take the fall. You watch. Go back and look at all the protest, and you'll see what I'm talking about here.

Afro Jesus has. Absolutely, I think he's a coward. That's what I think he is. I think this guy is a coward. He's got the loud mouth, but he doesn't have the moral courage to stand alongside the mob that he riles up.

So if if they're going to investigate, they need to take a look at this guy. And if you watch the videos, you can see Afro Jesus Justin Pearson, and he's back there with a big grin on his face. This was this was what he was hoping for, and quite frankly, put everybody in that council chamber, everybody inside City Hall in danger. But but can we just let me ask you about the the security there? Who in their right mind would let anybody into the building with a with a megaphone, right?

Who, and I know some people are like, well, maybe they hid them, you know, in their. I mean, they're talking about megaphones.

So at some point, let's just say for the sake of the argument that the the rent-a-mob actually hid the megaphones on their on their person. You would think that the security guard would say, "This is either I don't know a Dolly Parton convention or somebody sneaking something in here." I mean, really, come on.

So anyway, we'll see how all of that plays out. I don't think anybody's look. They were fist fighting. Fist fighting in City Hall, and nobody got arrested. They were literally those those city council members were in danger.

Nobody did anything about it, and that is something that has to be addressed. Nine zero one two six zero five nine two six our telephone number this morning, if you want to weigh in on that. Nine zero one two six zero five nine two six.

So all that to say, they're going to have a do-over. And we'll see what happens. I would presume that city the city hall will be filled with law enforcement. We will see. The meeting starts at four o'clock today.

Council committee meetings start about one o'clock this afternoon, and all of the meetings are going to be available to the public via live stream.

So we'll keep you updated. Any breaking news, we will break into programming this afternoon, here on here on KWM.

Now, when you get back to Afro Jesus, which is what we're calling Justin Pearson now, so this guy, I just have a question for you, and this is really for the Democrats. Does this guy really represent your values? Does this guy really? Really, just Ows Ninth Congressional District, and I say that because Justin Pearson. There's a video that surfaced, and we've got it on KWM's website.

We've got it on our social media platforms. Justin Pearson preaching at an Episcopal Church here in Memphis, Calvary Church in Memphis, and during this, it was a massively long sermon. And the guy is not that good of a preacher, but he opens the he opens the service with a prayer, and he says he prays in the name of Mother God. And that in and of itself is sort of like, wait, what?

So Justin Pearson prays in the name of Mother God, and then he goes on to quote the founder of Black Liberation Theology, who says that Jesus is a gay black woman, and we've got the video and we've got the audio. Here's Justin Pearson. Jesus is black. We would talk. We could also say Jesus is gay, and any other identity being humiliated.

One of my students, Jacqueline Grant, said Jesus is a black woman, and she is right. Jesus is a way of talking about God's solidarity with people who are hurt and despised. This is Reverend Dr. James Cone, the father of black liberation theology, and this is in his final book. Said I wasn't going to tell.

Nobody. Jesus is a black woman, and she is right.

Well, I hate to break it to Afro Jesus, but but Jesus Christ is not a lesbian. Unbelievable.

So Justin Pearson. By the way, have you noticed he's back to his white man voice? You know why? Because he was speaking at an Episcopal church. Everybody there was about ninety years old and Lily White.

So again, this is Justin Pearson, Afro Jesus, who cosplays. That's what he does, and he shifts his tone and tenor and his voice depending on what audience he's in front of. But that guy is insane. And I just ask a sincere question here, and especially you, because and here's my here's my observation that even even Black Democrats in Memphis are pretty conservative when it comes to culture issues, and I'm. Not sure that even some of the more liberal black churches would say, "Yeah, Jesus is a lesbian." I I don't know about that.

All right, let's go to the phones this morning nine zero one two six zero five nine two six. Let's say hello to Dean in East Memphis. Dean, good morning. What's on your mind? Afro Jesus.

Oh my God. That's that's hilarious. Was it too much, Dean? Was it too much?

Well, I'm on my second cup, so it's starting to resonate a little bit. I just wanted to say that after watching the the debacle at the city of Memphis or whatever, I I guess you couldn't say pinned an email, but I sent an email to Philip Spinoza. Saying that the bullhorn things need to be banned from being able to be, if they want to bring in a small sign, they can bring in a small sign, but no bullhorns. Yeah, Dean, that's what gets me: is how did they, how did they get the who, who allowed the bullhorns into into the city hall chamber? We knew what at that point, you know what's about to happen.

Exactly, exactly. It's just more. Sabrina Brown calls them activists, not activists. Activists—they're paid people to show up. You know, Dean, that's a it's a fair point you raise.

And again, when you step back, everybody's complaining about the data centers.

Well, you know what? Every single person in there was filming what was happening on their smartphones.

So, you you know, all right, fine. You don't want to have data centers? No problem. Turn in your smartphones. Exactly.

Thank you, Todd. Dean, have a great day there in East Memphis. Let's go to Coy listening to us in Memphis this morning. Wants to weigh in on Pearson. All right, Coy, what say you?

Great day to y'all. First of all, let's don't get it out the way. Good God, person, stop trusting these people. God showing us every day. I'm born and raised in Memphis.

I'm a country main. I'm Tennessean for life. Out of Big Hampton, went to Trailview. All this stuff ain't number the last days. We, I'm gonna tell you what we making our number one mistake.

Stop entertaining them. They do what they want to us, and then we got to show up and put these shows on. Justin, I once I caught on to Justin. Justin sold us out with that oil. That was all the distraction.

He flip flop. I know his brother was sacrificed by him. See all this stuff ain't number the same scenario over and over. They knew Elon was coming here. When Elon did that interview with that man, said a new guy gonna be at Memphis.

All this stuff ain't number the mark of the beast. We ain't got to do number one thing: stop trusting man and trust God. Do what God said because that's where we fellin'. All this stuff, Justin ain't number the bucket. His whole contract is to keep up this.

With the Malcolm X hair and the afro and all that Black Power stuff, that's racism. Show me the sinners. Show me the sinners, and I'll show you the children of God. That's the division right there. Stop dancing with these sinners.

Get over here with the. If you're a child of God, be a child of God. See, God is in control.

So, Coy, I take it you don't believe what Pearson was saying about Jesus being a a lesbian. I don't play like that. That's the only reason I got on her. When I saw that the crazy thing, I'm like, see, this is this going. See, people got to stop being stupid.

Yep. See, that's see, he he he is good at what he do. The devil is a great deceiver. I know. Come on, look at the patterns.

Deception, lies. God said the devil is the father of lies. Hey, Justin, what is all this? Look, Coy, it's a great point you raise, and and I appreciate your point of view. We're going to have to take a quick break here, Coy, but thank you for calling and thank you for listening to KWM.

Hang tight; you're going to want to hang around because Ben Dieter, our great alumni, is on the phone. We're going to get to Ben. Got to take a break. Commander Chuck, standing by with a look at your traffic and also your reaction to Afro Jesus Justin Pearson saying Jesus is a lesbian. Nine hundred one.

Two six zero five nine two six. We'll be right back. Hi, it's Delilah. I believe no child should have to suffer from hunger. Yet children around the world are starving because of circumstances beyond their control.

That is why I'm asking you to give thirty dollars monthly to World Health, an organization I trust. Each gift will feed one starving child for an entire year and share Christ's love. Help a new child every month. Eight three three three hunger, or visit worldhelp dot net slash radio. All right, welcome back, everybody.

I'm Todd Stearns. Great to have you with us. Busy, busy, busy news day here in the mid South. By the way, you folks in Olive Branch getting ready for a big free fall block party that's happening next Thursday. Olive Branch Chamber of Commerce organizing the event, and you're going to want to get more information about that over on the chamber's website.

Also, the million-dollar quartet—you're going to really want to see this great new show over at Theater Memphis, bringing Sun Records history to the stage. The musical recreates the famous gathering of Elvis, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Carl Perkins, and it opens at seven thirty there at Theater Memphis.

So that's October 16th. You're going to want to go ahead and get your tickets to that. Let's get right to The phones nine zero one two six zero five nine two six. The great Ben Dieter from Washington D.C. Dieter, what is going on?

I'm speechless, but but I shouldn't be. But I tune into the show this morning. I'm listening to you tip the segment. You hear Justin Pearson? Did it know what audio?

And I'm in the showers pod. I'm getting squeaky clean, getting ready to go to work, walk to the nation's cap, and and you play this audio of this man talking about Black Gay Jesus. Of all the literal things I thought was coming up, of all the things that man has said, that may have been the funniest thing he has ever said.

So I'm hearing your commentary, I'm screaming, laughing, I can't stop, and I was like, of course, I got a call into the show, and then you start talking about the AI thing. The data centers, Todd. You guys are all the way in the nation's capital. I go into work yesterday. I'm not kidding you.

It was on the TV. The kids in my office say, "Oh my gosh, Ben, aren't you from Memphis?" I said, "No, I'm not. I've never been there. What are you talking about?" I'm kidding. I was like, "Yes, I know all of them.

They're crazy, Todd. What is going on?" Then it's people have lost their ever-loving minds. This is this is how crazy it is. And what's what they're not talking about is that Elon is coming in and just dumping millions and millions of dollars to put air conditioning in public schools, build gyms. They're actually even cleaning up all of the the tires on the side of the roadway, and they want them out.

They would rather live in squalor.

Someone asked me at work. They said, "Do you think they know what they're protesting?" I said, "No, not one bit." They, I've been in that city hall. I've been to all the meetings. They have no idea why they're protesting. They protest to protest.

No justice, no peace. No justice, no peace. I go to sleep and I still hear them. And the fist fight, the the fist fight in city hall was off the charts. Everybody was accusing me of being racist.

How dare you bring up the weaves? I'm just telling you, it literally happened. That somebody snatched a weave off a woman's head. It wasn't Amber Sherman because Amber Sherman looked bald as a bat. I'm Amber Sherman.

You know, in a world that is ever changing, and I hate that everything's changed. One thing has not changed: Memphis is going to be Memphis. And that is why I missed it because of all the craziness happening in Washington. Nothing compares, or will ever compare, to the city of Memphis. And that is why I'm proud to be a Memphian, and I still have my nine to one tattoo despite the craziness that I saw on my TV last night.

Come on, Maine. Come on. Come on, Maine. You need a Maine tattoo. I know, I know.

You know, it's funny too because this data center thing is a big controversy all around the nation. And before all the members of Congress, before cussed off all the delegation, before they all went into recess, Todd, they had a vote on the floor of the House, and it was to protect people like yeah. All of those women that were screaming from the rising cost of utility rates when these data centers like XAI are built in the neighborhoods, and basically the bill would say we're not going to transfer that cost of building these massive buildings onto the consumer. And because the Democrats are going to be Democrats, they voted against it.

So next time they talk about lowering costs. They actually voted to raise the utility bills in Memphis, so remember that when you go to the ballot box, people. Dieter, you know how it is. We got to take a we got to take a break. You've got a lot of fans in the live stream over on Facebook, Dean and the Christians, the Real Housewives of Germantown.

Everybody is saying hello to you. It's good to hear from you, my friend. I'll be listening to this. Be listening to the Todd Stern show coming up at twelve o'clock today. Twelve o'clock Eastern, eleven o'clock Central.

Nine zero one two six zero five nine two six.

We'll be right back. All right, some serious news out of White Haven this morning. Two men shot last night. Memphis police investigating the shooting. This all happened about 8:45 last night over on Winbrook Winbrook Drive.

That's just south of Brooks Road. The one of the one of those that was shot in critical. Condition investigators say they've got one person detained, no charges just yet. We'll keep you updated on that story. Also, Memphis police are reporting a higher homicide clearance rate, so that's good news.

According to the M.P.D., the homicide clearance rate reaching eighty-eight percent through September, no doubt because of the Memphis Safe Task Force. All right, let's get back to the phones. A lot of folks wanting to weigh. On Justin Pearson this morning, Justin Pearson now saying that that God is a well that Jesus is a black gay woman also prayed in the name of Mother God. Does he represent the values of the ninth congressional district?

Let's go to the phone lines. Renee is calling in from Memphis this morning. Renee, what say you? Good morning. Good morning, Mr.

Todd. I would just like to thank you for hosting this platform, and I just also would like to see what part did he say exactly that God was a gay black woman because he said that he could represent that, but he didn't necessarily say that she was a gay black woman. He and then he also referenced other people.

So sometimes I. I have troubles listening to your show because it seems like you try to spin things to cause confusion. And when I look at the city council meeting episode that they had, it seemed as if It seemed as if the lady walked out saying that all someone does is cause causes confusion, and I feel like this also adds to it.

So, could you just clarify which part he consistently said that she was a gay black woman? Yeah, absolutely. As a matter of fact, let's go back and let's go to the tape, and that's one of the first things when someone told me this had happened, they sent me they sent me a clip. I said I need to see the whole clip so I can see it within the. Context.

First of all, he did pray to Mother God at the at the opening of the service, and then he said this: Jesus is black. We could also say Jesus is gay, and any other identity being humiliated. One of my students, Jacqueline Grant, said Jesus is a black woman, and she is right. Jesus is a way of talking about God's solidarity with people who are hurt and despised. All right, there you go.

You you heard Justin Pearson say, and this is right.

So Renee, if you know again, if you're speaking at an event like that, and I do a lot of public speaking, and if I say something I know is going to be controversial, I'm going to either qualify it or I'm going to be very Very deliberate, so the audience is not confused.

Now, what Justin Pearson could have done and should have done is say, you know, that this is absolutely outrageous. Jesus is not gay. Jesus is not a woman. But he didn't say that. He didn't say that, Renee.

He he said that he affirmed what this individual was saying.

Well, Tates, a great point you bring up. But sometimes I remember them saying that Jesus could be your doctor and a sick room, your mother, your father. Jesus also could come in different forms. That's what they said that he sometimes like just came amongst the regular people as a commoner, and they didn't know he was Jesus.

So I still think they're taking it out of context. And yeah, he should have said something along the lines of this was what so and so said. He also did name the people who said.

So, just being a listener to your show, Ty, I would like to request or just ask that you make sure you really, really clarify and stop spinning things for alternative agendas because sometimes that's what it seems like is done on this show. And I really like to listen in because I feel like there's a lot of information that could be spread, but also it seems like it's an agenda. And if we're gonna just stay for the people, let it be for the people. Renee and and look, we just we gave you an opportunity a platform to to say what you just said, and and I appreciate you calling in, Renee. The we have no spin here.

This is really what he said, and that's why it was important for us to have the audio so you could hear it for yourself, Renee. Thank you for calling in, and thank you for being a part of the program. And folks, this is the only radio station in Memphis, the only one that has. Republicans and Democrats, people who agree or disagree, we have a platform here, and that's the whole point of of the mighty nine ninety. Let's go to Justin in Collierville.

I thought this was going to be Justin Pearson, but it's Justin in Collierville. Hey, Justin, what's going on? Hey, good morning, Todd. Has somebody that lives and votes in the ninth congressional district and has watched Justin Pearson because I grew up in his old house district? He is a threat to civilization himself.

Like he's did this same behavior has been in the Tennessee General Assembly the whole time. He's got nothing accomplished, and he's a Marxist socialist. He was put in that race not to win, but to build the socialist movement across Tennessee. You know, we have no choice in the. Race like we got to get out and vote for Brett Taylor for Congress.

He's a common sense. He's a conservative. You know, he's a proven winner and he's a proven fighter. He's done more for Shelby County. In my lifetime, than any legislator from the Tennessee General Assembly, so I can only imagine what it's going to be like sending him to Congress.

So, we need to get out. We need to vote for Brent Taylor, and we need to put a full stop to Justin Pearson because he's a threat to civilization. He's going to burn everything down wherever he goes. He divides, he conquers, and more. More important than that, him preaching—he's a heretic, and he's going to send a bunch of people to hell.

With his ungospel heresy message, it's not Christian. I don't know what the hell that is, but he needs to be shut down. Yeah, this is insane, and I'll say this, Justin. There's, I just find it hard to believe the people in Collierville, the people out in Fayette County, believe that that Jesus is a is a black a woman, and I also have a hard time believing that the good people in the ninth congressional district pray to Mother God.

So again, I don't, I don't see how this guy reflects the values of the ninth congressional district. But, but here. Here is what folks need to pay very close attention to. Brent Taylor, I believe, is going to win and win big in that ninth congressional district race. Justin, we could be looking at the next mayor of Memphis.

Talking about Justin Pearson.

Well, if you've walked around downtown, you know that place is a ghost town. It smells like piss everywhere. You will see all the rest of those businesses empty out of downtown if Justin Pearson is the mayor of Memphis. You want to? That'll be a full destruction.

I don't agree everything with Mayor Paul Young, but he. He is a he's pragmatic, pragmatic mayor, and he does understand. And he's doing the best he can for Memphis. And I'm not a Paul Young fan, but I believe he he's doing the best he can for Memphis to attract businesses. And when you have people like Justin Pearson acting like that, if you're a business owner that's thinking about relocating to to Memphis and you're seeing on the national stage what's happening in City Council, why would You want to be a business and relocate like that if you don't feel you know you can get a share fair shot with city council with all that division and chaos.

Yeah, it's a fair question. It is a fair question. Justin, gotta leave it there. Thank you. Good to hear from you.

Nine zero one two six zero five nine two six is our telephone number this morning. That's nine zero one two six zero five nine two six. We had the opportunity to sit down and talk with Doctor Willie. Rice, president of the Southern Baptist Convention, a lot of Baptists here in the mid South. Let's take a listen to that conversation.

You know, Doctor Rice, you have been making national headlines over a recent call you made on pastors to step up politically ahead of of the midterms. What do you mean by that?

Well, you know, just kind of what you were talking about there—that we need to be active. We don't need to be afraid of being engaged. We need to be to be able to articulate, you know, our Christian convictions on the most important issues of the day, and we need to be able to disciple our people. We need to help them think rightly and biblically from a Christian perspective about the pressing issues. And when we don't speak to those issues, our people are left without that guidance.

Left without what we call in the churches, you know, discipleship. They're not being taught how to engage those cultural issues.

So I do think it's important that pastors lean in and not lean out to step up, as we say. And really, over the past, I would, I don't know if it's fair to say the past decade, it seems as though Southern Baptists have not been as engaged. And I wonder was there an effort to to encourage parents or pastors to step back from from The culture at large. You know, Todd, I kind of think there was. I don't know if somebody ever cooked it up in a back room somewhere, but I think that was the practical effect.

You really, in the early 2000s, some of the most influential evangelical leaders, and you could name some names, some very good men who did some very good things, all began to distance themselves from some of what were sometimes referred to as the cultural and political debates, and you had a. Several streams of a movement, all of which kind of said this: in order to be missiologically effective, we needed to withdraw.

Sometimes it was called pejoratively the culture wars—to quit being so political, to quit being so divisive. That if we wanted to reach people in a pluralistic post-Christian age, we had to quit talking about those controversial issues. And I think the practical effect of that is that pastors did grow silent on a lot of those issues. And particularly, Baptist leaders grew silent on some of those issues. You know what?

What really fascinates me about this whole thing, and it's it's the Trump effect, I think. And I I would go into some churches, and the senior pastors would be like all engaged. They they know exactly where I'm coming from, why I was supporting the president. The younger pastors on staff a completely different vibe. Doctor Rice, almost, and and I I actually lost a.

Good many Christian friends, as a result of my my support, for example, for President Trump and his agenda.

Well, you know, you're right. I mean, the Trump era has been a complicated one, and because of all the things about President Trump, his past, and some of the statements he makes, and some of the way he does things, and but it came about in that broader. Kind of background of hey, let's not be controversial. Let's not talk about things that are divisive and polarizing. I live, for instance, in what would be called a swing county, a purple county.

You know, my county can go red or it can go blue, and in a in a swing state.

Well, Florida is not so much a swing state anymore, but the area of Florida that it usually would determine which way Florida went. And so I I want to reach all kinds of people. I don't want to be a red church. I don't want to be a blue church. I want to be a Jesus church.

I want to talk about the gospel. I want to talk about Jesus. I want to preach the Bible, and I think that's a good motive. And I think pastors were drawn to that. But in order to do that, many of them bought into the idea that these controversial cultural issues that deal with sexual morality, that deal with marriage, that deal with what it means to be a human, therefore we.

We cannot talk about those issues if we want to reach all kinds of people. I do want to reach all kinds of people, but in order to reach them, we have to deal truthfully—not just with the essence of the gospel, but with the implications of the gospel on all of life. We don't have to be arrogant. We don't have to be unnecessarily partisan. We don't have to be unnecessarily unkind or divisive.

But we do have to lean in. And engage the issues. People are asking questions. Our people are watching. They want to know how to engage these issues.

And so, I just think the what was often called the third way mindset—that we have to have a third way alternative of addressing this side or that side—it just didn't work. And the practical effect is, at the moment, we needed our voice so critically. Many, many evangelical leaders grew. Quiet, and our people did not learn how to process and think about these issues. I've I've been seeing the the the polling data and the surveys, and it seems that at least within Generation Z, there is a renewed interest in in Christianity and really a deeper dive into Christianity.

I'm wondering if if you were seeing that from the the pulpit, and if so, what do you think is behind all of that?

Well, I think I do see it to a degree. I I don't know that I would say we're in an awakening or that we've seen a widespread cultural movement, but you certainly are watching young people lean in, and we're seeing many many trends about that. I think it's a hunger for authenticity. I think it's a hunger for truth. I think they've seen the philosophies of the world, the materialism, the hedonism, all the you know sexual libertineism that is out there.

They've seen all of this, and it's it's left them wanting and hungering for truth. And here's the interesting thing: when they come into our churches, hungering for the truth, they're not interested in superficial. It's not going to capture them. It's not going to disciple them. They again, they don't want you to be overly partisan.

They don't want you just to wave a political flag, but they don't want you to be afraid of wading into the critical issues of our day and our culture. And by the way, those critical issues inevitably have political implications.

So while we are not political pundits, we Can't be afraid of engaging those issues head-on, talking about them, opening the Bible, and giving them the real answers that God's Word provides. All right, and that is just a bit of our interview. If you'd like to listen to the entire interview we did with the president of the Southern Baptist Convention, go to toddstearns. dot com and you can download that in our free podcast.
