From the Mighty 990 Broadcast Center, you're waking up in Starnes Country with Todd Starns. And good morning, everybody. Welcome. Welcome to Starnes Country. I'm Todd Stearns, and we are broadcasting this morning from the Principal Toyota Memphis studio.

If you are looking for a great car, I want you to go and visit my friend Todd Lochner. We have so much, so much to talk about today. Of course, a lot of news happening on the national level where Senate Republicans and majority leader John Boone is pushing back now against the president and the American people over the SAVE Act.

Now, this act would require voter ID. If you wanted to go and vote in an election, you would have to show your ID and you would have to show programming. Proof of citizenship. And for whatever reason, and I have a theory about why, and I'll share that in just a moment, but the Senate Republican leadership is simply not going to budge. And that means you're still going to have voter fraud.

You're going to have illegals voting in your elections. And this is a piece of legislation that an overwhelming percentage of the American people actually support. 83%, as a matter of fact, an overwhelming number of minority voters also support. Voter ID laws, and the reason why is they understand that a lot of people coming across that southern border are voting in our elections. Here's the homework assignment for today, because Senate leadership has to go.

At this point, if they're going to stand in the way of not only the President's agenda, but if they're also going to stand in the way of securing our elections, They got to go, and you need to call Senator Blackburn's office, you need to call Senator Haggerty's office, and you need to tell them to take the lead in removing Senate leadership. This is a very dangerous thing for the Republic, ladies and gentlemen. And I am telling you: if the Republicans keep fooling around, they're going to find out in the midterm elections. It's really that simple.

So, look, we've got a beautiful story to share with you, a couple of things happening in the mid-South. I'm going to get to those. In just a moment. But I do want to take just a moment and talk about something that has been on my mind and something that's just been bothering me. That's okay.

It's I don't want to I don't like taking moments of personal privilege too often on uh th this uh program, but Uh today I just I need to get some things off my chest and You know, one of the, you know, it's been six years, almost six years, since I purchased. K-Wham. And when I bought the radio station, I knew right away that I wanted to give conservatives a platform here in the Mid-South because when you look at all of the media outlets, and this is nothing against, I'm not disparaging any of the media outlets. I'm just saying that most of the people they hire are liberals. Therefore, they never give conservatives a fair shake.

And most, I think pretty much all of them. And that's unfortunate. And therefore, Republicans, especially, had no platform to talk about the big issues of the day, to promote their candidates, and to get their message out.

So, one of the things I promised to do when I bought K-Wham was to provide a platform to become the conservative blowtorch of the Mid-South. And I knew. I knew That was going to anger people. I knew that was going to set off the Democrats. It was going to trigger the Democrats.

But I had no idea that it would also Trigger the establishment Republicans and some of these so-called Christians who say they are Republican as well. I had. No idea. That to me came as a surprise. But you know what, lesson learned.

So over the years There have been some in the Republican Party locally that really got upset. I think they got the clinical term perhaps is butt hurt. Over the fact that we were encouraging People to join the party, that we were encouraging the Republicans to stand firm and to speak out. and to get off of the get off of the country club plantations. and get out into the community.

And I remember early on at one of the very first Republican meetings, they invited me to come and speak. And I'm looking out over the crowd, this huge crowd of people. I'm like, where. Where are all the black folks? What this looks like, I don't know, it d it looked like a country club.

And I've been a huge proponent of going into all the communities and all of the neighborhoods. In the Mid-South and bringing the conservative message. And why is that?

Well, it's because I believe in the conservative message. I I believe in the precepts of what it means to be a conservative. I also happen to be a Christian, and my faith flavors everything I do, including politically speaking.

So it's been a long slog. And it's at times it's been frustrating, but I think we've done the right thing. But there are a lot of people within the Republican Party locally who really loathe the mission of KWAM. They can't stand what we do. Because the establishment Republicans would rather sit back on their apple teenies and play golf and do whatever.

That's fine. You can do that. But you're not going to win elections. And that was especially evident a couple of years into being back when I think Republicans pretty much lost every single major race here in this area. And you know what happened?

This is what blew me away. They applauded themselves. I'm sitting going, wait, what just happened here? We just got our butts handed to us and we're applauding ourselves. We're throwing another shindig?

I got no problem with shindigs. As a matter of fact, Haywin throws some mighty good shindigs. And I will say this. No. I participate.

I was a member of the Republican Party and gave a lot of money. And I'm not saying that to be boastful at all. I'm just saying I had skin in the game. And I wanted candidates to win. Isn't that the whole point of having a political party to elect?

Candidates to office who share your political viewpoints? But I think one of the big problems And maybe maybe the uppity ups, they didn't realize this. Is that KWAM is a grassroots radio station? We're always going to be that way. We're not highfalutin' around these parts.

We're just not. That's not who we are. That's not to say we don't have high-falutin people that listen to the radio. We do, and I love that. But you know what?

We're we're a radio station for the people. And we wanted to give those people a voice. And you know what happened? Something m wonderful happened. Over the past several years, Hundreds of people have joined the local Republic.

And we're not talking about we're not talking about the super war. I'm talking about regular Joes. I'm talking about working class folks. I'm talking about middle class folks. Talking about young people.

that were attracted to the message. And I got to tell you, that really blessed my heart. I had no idea. That such a thing Would anger and infuriate the establishment. I it's beyond me.

But a lot of people like their private country clubs, and that's okay. That's okay. But that's not who I am. But when you start going after the KWAM listeners. When you start going after My friends, the people that are Out there on the front lines working their Ans is off?

That's when I draw the line. And over the past couple of weeks, there has been a lot of turmoil within the Republican Party locally. And you know who's gonna you know who's gonna ultimately be hurt? The good people of Shelby County. That's who's going to be hurt.

You know who's going to be hurt, those kids. in those schools. that deserve to have a fighting chance. But we're too busy trying to Keep the grassroots down. that we really don't give a damn if kids read in this in this community.

That that's who gets hurt. But I just want to say, uh personally, thank you to Luke Symbol, Who is done a remarkable job and I think has truly revolutionized the communications wing of the party. And the and and Kristen Hicks and Kristen New. We call them affectionately the Germantown housewives, the real housewives of Germantown. Those two women.

And they're friends. And I apologize for not listening to everybody, but They have worked their butts off. and they found themselves not welcome in their own party. And I can't abide by that. That's just not right.

So, anyway, last night, Luke Simbel officially. Said that he was not going to run for reelection for his position within the party. And we also understand that Ms. Hicks uh stepped away from the party as well. And there are others who are doing the same.

And I will say this. That I too have added my name, and I have for the very first time, and gosh. Wow, it's been a long time. I am no longer a member of a political party. I have rescinded my membership in the Republican Party.

And you know what? That's okay. Because I just I believe you can do a lot more not being a part of a political party. We're still going to fight the good fight here on K-Wham every single day. We're not going to work off talking points.

You're not going to bully us. And that's the thing that got me was the bullying campaign. And that's just unacceptable. It really is. Shameful, actually.

Shame on you. But we're going to keep fighting the good fight here. And you may not like it, and that's okay. You know what? Here on this radio station, I want you to think about this for a moment.

There is literally only one radio station in this city where both Republicans and Democrats. can come on and talk about the issues. in an intellectual and fun way. But there's also only one radio station that will let you call in and attack the host. And the reason why is: number one, it makes for pretty darn good entertaining radio, but number two, I believe in my positions and I feel like I can defend my positions.

I'm just gonna tell you, it's sorted. Damn it, it's sad. It really is sad. Because all of these folks, Luke and the Christians and many, many others, have worked their butts off. Work their butts off.

They weren't looking for adulation. They weren't. They weren't even looking for Adarasa. They were just out there because they believed in the conservative message. I think about people like our good friends out in Whitehaven at the Republican Club.

Grinding it out every single day. In an overwhelmingly blue neighborhood. That's what we ought to be focused on. But instead, we're focused on power. And that's unfortunate.

That is unfortunate. But I will say this, you don't have to be a member of a political party to make a difference. And we're going to keep telling those stories and we're going to keep fighting that good fight. 901-260-5926, if you'd like to weigh in this morning, that's 901-260-5926. Let's go to Linda in Germantown.

Linda, good morning. What's on your mind today? Hey, good morning. Because of Kristen Hicks and Kristen News' tenacity, at one of the events, Bartlett, I believe, sh she talked this gentleman and his wife who just came up to see what was going on because it was so much fun with the Trump and and she talked him into joining the party and he was going to join and then she talked him into upping his membership. Um anyway, long story short, he Has a business, and one of his workers was a grandmother to this girl, twenty one twenty year old girl that was being trafficked.

trafficking sex trafficking anyway He reached out. Uh Because of who he met In that tent, he was able to find somebody to go rescue those girls, 21 girls. are now free. From being sex trafficked. in part because of Kristen's Tenacity.

And salesmanship, as you will. And think how many people are grateful because of her.

Well, they're wonderful people, and they're great American patriots, Linda. And I know you are as well. And it's just really sad. That's all I can really say. It is incredibly sad what is happening because it takes us away from the mission.

And to be perfectly honest with you, this was an opportunity. I think this coming midterm election was an opportunity for the Republicans here to make a serious statement. Linda, I've got a skedaddle for a break, but God bless you. Thank you so much for that story. 901-260-5926.

This is Stern's Country. All right, it is now 24 minutes past the hour. By the way, the city of Memphis announcing trash collection resumes today. Any of you folks getting mail yet? I got one letter.

We haven't had mail for like 12 days. And no, it was 10 days. But we got one piece of mail yesterday.

So something tells me that we're not getting all the mail just yet. Welcome back, everybody. Good to have you with us here in Sterns Country. Folks, we have the best law enforcement in the nation right here in the Mid-South. And on January the 30th, deputies with the Shelby County Sheriff's Office responded to a call involving two kids in a pond.

I want you to listen to part of the press conference. You're not going to be able to play the whole thing, but I want you to listen to what happened and the incredible bravery of the Shelby County Sheriff's Department. Take a listen.

So I arrived first at the apartment complex. When I exited my vehicle, I heard a lot of screaming coming from the back of the apartment complex towards the pond. Um Realizing that this might be a real life or death situation, I got a rope out of the back of my truck, ran around the apartment complex. There was a bunch of bystanders screaming and pointing. I did notice the 12-year-old was in the water hanging on to the ice, head was bobbing up and down.

And as I was trying to get the rope out towards the 12-year-old, I noticed that the 7-year-old was in the water. Mm-hmm. pretty far out there.

So I undid the rope, threw the rope to the 12-year-old because I gotta make a decision which one I can go after. Threw the rope to the 12 year old. And then jumped in the water, swam across the pond, and got the seven-year-old. I was too far out to come back, so I swam to the other side of the pond. got up on the bank and started doing CBR.

And that's when my partner Mohammed arrived on the scene. Prior to arriving on the scene, I was met by a bystander that directed me to the pool. We both ran full-fledged to the pond. I seen my partner, Deadley Owens, swimming in the middle of the pond. and I seen the 12-year-old bobbing on the side of the ice.

At that moment I rushed straight into the water, grabbed the rope. And with the assistance of the bystanders that was near me, I was able to pull the 12-year-old out of the water and they assisted by pulling me out. Miles holding room. After that I ran over to my partner. We didn't have much time to react at all.

There's children in the water.

So with two of them being in the water You just gotta go. Mm-hmm. Yeah, it's cold. It was very, very chilly that night. It's dark.

Okay. You know, kids' lives are at stake, so just do what you do.

Well, I didn't have any time to react at all, so I just act right away. I want to thank God for giving me the the strength and courage and the instinct just to act immediately to just go across that breaking ice for the 12-year-old. I'm a man of faith and I believe the Lord has those children in his hands. Mm. And No.

what may come of it would be in his plan. I would say all glory to God. You know, I don't. You know, I would say that God took over. and gave me the strength and courage to do everything I did that day.

You know, I feel like the title hero is kind of beyond me, and I'm just thankful that, you know, God gave me the strength to be a hero. Lord, give me an opportunity. Could be in the right. situation, the right timing. And I was willing.

I've got good partners to back me up, so I really didn't think about much. I know they're coming for me. Yeah. That's the nature of this job. these partners that you see behind me.

There's nothing stopping them from coming.

So, I don't have to worry about anything happening to me. They've got me. What an incredible testimony. And those two men you heard from: that's Deputy Edward Owens and Deputy Israel Mohammed. And those men showed up at the Southwinds Lake apartment complex and just jumped right in, crashed through the ice, this sheet of ice on the pond to rescue these two little boys who are one of them is still in pretty tough positions.

Pretty tough condition. They had to do CPR, but those young men are alive. Those little boys are alive because of the work of those deputies. And when you think about When you think about their selflessness, their training that compel them to run to the danger zone. I you know, it you you think about that.

Every time you hear a Democrat in this town belittling law enforcement or mocking law enforcement, you think about Deputy Owens and you think about Deputy Mohammed. Two men who put their own lives on the line to save those little boys.

Now, also moms, dads, Keep your kids off the ice. That is a message that so many police officers have been saying around the Mid-South. It is just not safe, so you got to do that. Be sure to pray for those little boys. Let's pray for a full recovery.

God bless the Shelby County Sheriff's Department and all of our great law enforcement. Hang tight, everybody. Got to take a break. We'll be right back. All right, have you guys bought out yet?

I this is insane. I will say this. You folks in Nashville, you guys are screwed. This is what happens when you hire diversity folks and the power is not going to be back on. They say now February 11th is when the power might be restored in Nashville.

The funny thing is, they did what they did to protect the trees. The canopy is what they were talking about. Unfortunately, the canopy's gone because all the ice brought down all the trees. Good luck. Good luck with that.

All I can say is God bless MLGW because maybe there were a few power flickers here and there, but man, they kept the lights on and the water running, and we appreciate that. I want to welcome in our good friends Adam Martin and Chris Loftus from Strategic Financial Partners. Guys, it's just good to see human beings again. It really is. You know, absolutely.

I was going a little stir crazy.

So, yeah, good to be here. Were you really? There are some people that are still stuck in their homes because they have those massive ice. The snow, what is it, the blowing snow, the snow drifts, and they froze solid. I spent the last week.

On the business end of a shovel and an axe trying to bust people out of their driveway.

So I'm happy to get back to normal. We tried to give Helena, I tried Helen, I need you to go downstairs, you know, because we do have, we had you guys coming out and said, I need you to go downstairs, take the pickaxe, and just, you know, chop up the she did not want to do it. Not a team player, not a team player, Helen. But anyway, great to see you guys. And I know a lot of people are just getting back into the grind and getting back to work, focusing on finances.

Of course, we've got tax season coming up. But today, we're going to be talking about risk tolerance. And a lot of people are not tolerant about risk. And so, so we're going to jump right into it. When you hear that term, what does that term mean in the financial world?

That's a great question. And it's all on your personal situation and what walk of life you're in.

So somebody who's just starting out in life is obviously going to have a different risk tolerance than somebody who's nearing retirement.

So a young person is. Going to be aggressive, they've got time on their hands to be invested in some things that are more volatile than somebody who's nearing retirement and can't afford to lose any kind of money that they need for retirement with big market swings.

So, the risk is really how much risk do you want to take in your investments. And just to pedal off of that, you know, people often confuse risk tolerance with risk capacity.

So, like, you might want to take risks, but whether you can afford to is a different story. But true risk tolerance shows up when things don't go as planned. Ultimately, let's talk about some examples of what happens when somebody's investments don't necessarily match. Their risk tolerance. Give us some examples of that.

Yeah, I see it pretty often. Let's talk about that pre-retiree, somebody who has kept their foot on the gas and they did it, you know, not really knowing. They just said it and forget it a long time ago. And now they're starting to, hey, plan a little bit more. I know I'm going to be retiring.

Will my money last? And the first thing that I see is, hey, you're 10 years from retirement or five years from retirement and you're in a super aggressive portfolio.

So my first question is, if the market corrects 10% and you lose 10% of your portfolio, how would that make you feel? And they would say, nine times out of 10, that would be detrimental. I can't afford to do that.

So that just tells me we need to reallocate your investments. Is there anything wrong with taking those risks, though? Not at all. Again, there's a lot of people out there with different situations that are perfectly fine with those risks. And that's the tolerance aspect of it, right?

You're able to put yourself in a position where you say, hey, if there's a risk reward here, is the reward great enough to justify the risk? And that's. Where that conversation comes into play, where if you can be honest with yourself, instead of looking online and seeing what everybody else is doing, say, oh, go for big money, big money. And because that's where you jump into the hole of like, oh, wait a minute, you know, the stock market's a gamble, all that stuff. And this isn't necessarily talking about the stock market, but this is more so saying, okay, what is your capacity and capability to make your assets work for you?

Does risk tolerance change over time, or are you basically born with it? I guess that would make you, what, trans tolerant? Looking for a term. That's great. That's awesome.

No, it's not something that you're born with. Obviously, every situation is different. And your risk tolerance will change, or it should change. You know, I do have conversations with people where we're nearing retirement, and they're saying, nope, I still want to take on this aggressive risk. But what we want to do first and foremost is just educate you on where you're at in your walk of life and just say, hey, this makes a lot of sense for you to be aggressive.

But as we get next 10 years, maybe we scale that from an aggressive to a moderate risk tolerance, and then eventually we'll end up in a conservative risk tolerance. And Todd, that's why annual reviews are so important. I mean, you're going to get married. You're going to have kids. Life is going to happen.

But ultimately, it's one of those things where risk tolerance isn't something you set it and forget it. It needs to be counseled. It needs to be fostered. You need to be paying attention to it just so that when things do change in your life, you're able to take according steps. All right.

Our good friends Adam Martin, Chris Loftus with Strategic Financial Partners. Strategic FinancialPartners.com is the website that strategicfinancialpartners.com. By the way, I want to give you a quick traffic update here. The off-ramp toward the 101 connector north at US 51 is blocked.

So there is a massive, massive Traffic backup there, so be careful while you're in that area. And while our commuters are stuck in that big traffic jam, let's talk about something they need to be thinking about right now in their cars when it comes to understanding their own risk tolerance. I'd just say take a few seconds to reflect on where you're at in your working career. Are you getting close to your retirement? When's the last time you've looked at your investment assets?

And do you really know how much risk you're willing to take?

So if you've left yourself with some questions there, that's exactly what we're here for.

So give us a call so that we can help you think through it and figure out the right solve for you. I'd add to that: ask yourself, for those of you that have taken on risk, How soon will I need this money? Time plays a big role in how much risk somebody can comfortably take, and that's going to kind of separate the sheep from the goats a little bit in terms of what you should be doing right now. When you talk about risk, a lot of people think immediately stock market. You know, obviously we've been talking a lot about that.

It also impacts other areas of life as well. Yeah. I mean, we call like life insurance planning, long-term care planning, and disability planning as risk management.

So, you know, obviously death and taxes are the two certain things in life.

So there's risk associated with that. And, you know, what we want to make sure of, whether it's insurance, it's investments, or it's comprehensive planning, that we're addressing that risk, whether it's risk tolerance in the stock market, risk of losing our life, and what do we leave as a legacy.

So we handle all the risk mitigation on a comprehensive level. And risk is everywhere, right? I mean, career changes, life changes. You're starting a business. I mean, Todd, when you bought K-Wham, you took on a lot of risk doing that, which was phenomenal.

It's one of those things where even paying down debt versus saving. It's all about trade-offs. It pertains to a lot of risk. But financial planning helps people be able to justify and make those decisions intentionally instead of accidentally. This is, it's great.

It's great, Intel. And, of course, risk tolerance also, at least now we don't have to worry about getting shot at or getting our car jacked, you know, thanks to the National Guard.

So we don't have to worry about that risk anymore.

So that's a good thing. That's a great thing. All right, fellas. All right. Adam, Chris, give us your phone numbers.

How can people get in touch with you this morning? You can reach me at 901-260-2438. And you can reach me, Chris Loftus, at 901-657-3324. And you can go to their website. It's really a great website.

All sorts of incredible information there: strategicfinancialpartners.com. All right, fellas, good to see you. By the way, Super Bowl coming up. Are y'all doing anything for the Super Bowl? You know what?

I don't have a dog in the hunt, Todd. I'm sad to say. Talk about risk. I'll be buying.

Some Super Bowl squares. All right, good stuff. Are y'all Bad Bunny fans by any chance? You know, the halftime show. Kind of never heard of it.

Never. I think it's a him, but that's all I know. It's a dude in a dress. We had a horrible conversation. It's a really funny conversation yesterday on Newsmax.

We do a ladies' panel. We're trying to come up with a name for it. They didn't like my idea. It was Todd's Hot Babes. They didn't like that.

And we suggested Todd's Cool Conservative Babes, and I think it's the Babes part of it. Anyway, we were talking to the ladies about Bad Bunny, and one of the ladies said, Well, you know, she goes, he's trying to honor gay people, queer people, and queer people don't watch the Super Bowl, which I immediately pushed back and said, well, what about the tight ends? That's terrible. Yeah, I know. Let's keep the topic consistent.

You run the risk of being canceled.

Well, well played. That's consistency. All right. We've got to take a break here, everybody. This is.

Starring's country. Adam Martin is a registered representative of and offers securities and investment advisory services to Imminent Investors Services, LLC, member SIPC, Supervisory Office, 949, South Shea Grove Road, Sweet 300, Minifest Tennessee, 3120-901-767-5951. And welcome back, everybody. Great to have you here in Starnes Country in the Principal Toyota Memphis studio. Looking for a great car, go visit my good buddy Todd Lochner over at Principal Toyota.

Real quick, let's go to the phones. Justin in Collierville. Hi, Justin. What's on your mind this morning? Hey, Todd.

Hey, I just wanted to call in and just thank the Kristens and Laura for all they've done for the Shelby P GOP. I mean, just the way we left is the way we came in.

So I'm not worried about any of the future. If I had to pick one memorable moment of as volunteer with the Shibo GLP, When the Shelby GLP during our presidential election didn't have anything going on, we took money out of our own pockets and we're passing out Trump signs all throughout Shelby County during our during our Presidential election. And that was probably one of the most fun things that we did uh that that nobody even had a a a vision for.

So Um, it may seem like things are bleak, but I don't think so. This is how we started with the whole partisan school board. You know, debacle getting involved, you know, a lot of good things came out of that.

So, you know, God, God is in control. He's got a plan for all of this, and this might just be the shake-up that we need right before the 2026 election. I have no doubt about that. And I know there are a lot of independent candidates that are running that are conservative.

So there are going to be lots of opportunities to hear their voices on K-Wham and really to get behind. I think a lot of people, a lot of donors are now looking for a place where they can get plugged in and put their money. And I'm excited. Look. Yes, Justin, don't get me wrong.

I am incredibly hopeful about the future. Certainly very sad what has happened, but you know what? It's okay. And even though I'm a Baptist, I do believe in karma. Justin, God bless.

Thank you. And we appreciate you calling in this morning. And we appreciate all of our great listeners. 901-260-5926. One of our great sponsors, Rosie's Pest Control.

And we're so excited to have Ashley Doherty with us. Ashley, good morning. Glad, you know, it's just nice to see human beings. We've all been snowed in or iced in over the past couple of days. Did you get out there?

Did you do any sledding or skiing? I did some sledding. We have a very steep driveway, so we got to slide down that and into the neighbor's driveway.

So it was like a long course that we got to do. At least maybe you didn't land in the neighbor's house. No, thankfully not. Thankfully. Oh, my goodness.

But it's slippery out there. You know, it really is. And hopefully, it's going to warm up and we'll be able to get the rest of the ice. But I think a lot of people are just ready to get out of their houses. Yep.

One of the great things about Rosie's, and we love promoting locally owned, family-owned businesses here on K-Wham, and that's what Rosie's is. How important is that family aspect of it?

Well, it's it's It's the root of the company. It's like a whole family, and I've been welcomed into the family. I started working there a year and a half ago as their marketing department. And it's a family in the office, and that translates over to our customer service and our Technicians, when they go into the house, it's a very family, small. Family values.

And that's well, and that's an important thing. And I think people appreciate that. And they know that, you know, when there is a family-owned company, they live here, they work here, and they're invested in the community.
