The Chicago Bears' head coach, Matt Eberflus, has been let go after a disastrous game against the Lions, where the team's clock management was heavily criticized. The team is now looking for a new head coach, and Caleb Williams, the young quarterback, will be a key factor in the decision-making process.

As many of you clearly know, I love going to watch football live.

There's nothing like it. Whether it's college football or professional football, there's nothing quite like the excitement of being in the stadium. And game time tickets and game time picks through game time is exactly your way and your gateway to getting the seat that you want and the experience that you'll never forget. Game time picks is a new curation feature that filters out the fluff to show you only incredible deals on great seats so you don't waste a single second searching through thousands of tickets. The all-in pricing feature, that's my favorite. You get to see your total up front, no surprise fees at checkout. With game time, you'll always get the lowest price guarantee or game time will credit you 110% of the difference. Take the guesswork right out of buying tickets right now with game time. Download the game time app, create an account, use my code of Eizen for $20 off your first purchase.

Terms apply. Visit gametime.co for restrictions. Again, create an account, redeem my code, E-I-S-E-N, boom, $20 off. Download game time today. What time is it?

Game time. Being a marketer is no sweat. You just have to manage dozens of channels, launch hundreds of campaigns, score thousands of leads, and okay, fine, it's a lot of sweat. Unless you have HubSpot's AI-powered marketing tools to help you do all that and more.

Get started at HubSpot.com slash marketers. Oh my God, you guys are my favorites. This is the Rich Eizen Show. I know what I'm talking about.

That's the headline. The Rich Eizen Show with guest host, Dan Schwartzman. OMG. Live from the Rich Eizen Show studio in Los Angeles. Oh my gosh. And now, sitting in for Rich, it's Dan Schwartzman.

That is correct. Black Friday here on the Rich Eizen Show. Dan Schwartzman in for Rich. Glad to be here.

Art Martinez on the other side of the glass. Oh boy, oh boy. Do we have a lot to talk about after the NFL triple header on Thanksgiving that we all witnessed. And I've scratched my head so much.

My scalp is raw. And I think the Matt Everflu's watch as to if he still has a job past Sunday has begun. Maybe we can do it over and under here, Art, on that because my goodness, what was up with the ending of that Bears game.

The Idiocracy in the NFL that never ceases to amaze me. Oh my goodness. Oh my goodness. It's unbelievable. Look, I gotta be honest with you.

First of all, hopefully everybody had a great Thanksgiving holiday, enjoyed your turkey, ate the stuffing, had an amazing pumpkin pie, filled your bellies, got to spend time with the family. You saw my pictures from yesterday. No, I didn't. That's what I did.

That's what we did here. Alright, I don't care about your Instagram. I'm sorry. Thank you.

I look at your Instagram for pictures of your dog. I don't care about you. Well, obviously neither.

It's probably neither does anybody else. Exactly. We like the dogs, Art. We don't like you. We like the dogs.

That's the soft spot we have for you, Mr. Martinez. Great. But I will tell you this. I am glad Thanksgiving is over because I am sick and tired of the social media posts of I'm so thankful for this. I'm so thankful for that. So thankful for the family.

For those I talked to and those I wish I talked to more. Can we please stop? You know what I'm thankful for? You know what really I am thankful for?

What are you thankful for? It's the Bears. The Bears. Listen, we got to get to that because, you know, Matt, there's no easy way to look at this, right?

And be nice about it. But Matt Eberfluss yesterday showed that he's not qualified to be an NFL head coach. Now, sure, Caleb Williams himself probably needs to look at the clock as well. Although I don't know how the timeout system works with the Chicago Bears. Does he have the power to call it himself? Does it have to come from the sideline?

I have no idea. He's also a rookie quarterback, but still he's an NFL player. He's the number one pick overall.

He's got a lot of talent. Is the responsibility there as well? But it lies, of course, with the head coach. And what happened yesterday in the final 36 seconds of that game was frankly criminal.

It was frankly criminal. Let's take a listen here for those who may not have had an opportunity to watch it or listen to the broadcast of that ending of that Lions Bears game, which turned out to be a heck of a game. The Lions are leading 23 to 20. Chicago is closing in on field goal range to at least send it to overtime. Potentially take a couple of shots at the end zone. Here is what you may have missed.

Take a listen. Williams at the line, tapping his head. We're down to 15 seconds here. Caleb Williams out of the shotgun. Third and long. Time is moving. Gotta go under 10 seconds now.

Oh my goodness. Back to Williams. He's ready to throw.

He'll throw it down the middle of the field. Incomplete at the horn. The game is over. The Bears won't even get to fourth down. They leave Detroit with a timeout in their pocket. And the Lions, for the first time since 16, have won on Thanksgiving. 23-20, the final score. How in the world can that happen?

There you have it. Jason Benetti with the call on Westwood. It's the Bears. It's the Bears.

It's the Bears. You're looking at a second and 20 at Detroit's 35-yard line. At that point, you're talking about a 52-yard field goal.

Now, Caleb Williams gets sacked for a six-yard loss, okay? And at that point, they have a timeout. They're still at the 41-yard line of Detroit, which is at that point, yes, a 58-yard field goal. But in today's NFL, that's a makeable field goal.

At least it gives you an opportunity to try. And they have that timeout in their back pocket. But the clock's running and literally, I believe, it was double-digit seconds by the time they even got back to the line of scrimmage to snap the ball for one final play. And they have one timeout left.

They have it in their pocket. You never want to end the game. Listen, even if you're up in the game, very rarely does a team leave a timeout unused.

You use it. Give your guys a breather, strategy, whatever it may be, you don't leave timeouts. And especially, it's criminal when you leave a timeout when you need to stop the clock because you're driving for at least a game-time field goal.

There was absolutely no excuse for the sheer stupidity of how the Bears handled that final 30 seconds of the game. And I think the Detroit Lions are sitting there saying to themselves, what is going on? I mean, are they trying to give us the win here? Are they trying to help us win our 10th straight?

Are they trying to help us to get to 11-1? Because frankly, there's no other reason that you can point to for how that clock was managed. Now, after the game, when heads were being scratched and people are wondering what the heck happened and who's responsible for the fact that that was obviously a major screw-up, many, of course, wondered what Matt Eberfluss, the head coach of the Bears, would say.

Now, take a listen in the postgame press conference when he's asked about clock management at the end of that game. I like what we did there. Again, once it's under seven, you're going to call timeout there, or actually under 12, and then really you don't have an option. Because it's third to fourth, you got to throw it into the end zone then. So to me, I think we handled it the right way. I do believe that you just re-rack the play, get it in, bounce, and call timeout, and that's why we held it and it didn't work out the way we wanted it to. What is that?

What is that? I like how we handled it. What do you mean? Look, of course, you're not going to sit there and go, man, wow, was that a massive screw-up that a high school coach doesn't even make. I get it. No one's going to actually flat out come out and put it that way.

But in fact, that's exactly what it is. A high school football coach wouldn't screw up clock management the way that Matt Eberfluss screwed it up yesterday for the Bears. I cannot believe this guy is a head coach. Well, he's not going to be for much longer. No, no, no, he's not. I can guarantee you he's not going to be a head coach for much longer.

It's the Bears. But here's what bothers me about his response there. If you don't want to flat out be critical, don't blow smoke up our rear end, okay? Don't tell us that that's how you wanted it played out, that you're happy with that result, that you're okay with how that game ended, because there's no way you can be happy about that.

You can't. Now, he's meeting with the general manager Ryan Polz and the team president slash CEO Kevin Warren apparently this afternoon, and there's a possibility he doesn't make it past this meeting because why would you? If you ever needed evidence that somebody wasn't worthy of being a head coach in the NFL, there you have it, folks. I like what we did there.

Hand it to you on a silver platter. Don't tell me I'm stupid, which is what he's doing. If you're an NFL fan and you sat there and tens of millions of us sat there and watched on turkey day, what you're in essence telling us is we're a bunch of idiots, right? That we're wrong to think that he handled that incorrectly. If you're a Bears fan, how mad are you today or after that game? No, I think you're numb to it at this point. You're numb to it?

You're numb to it. They fired their offensive coordinator a couple weeks ago. Things seem to be a little better. Dan Walden, of course, wasn't getting the job done.

But this is year after year after year. And at this point, I think the biggest worry for a Bears fan isn't the clock management at the end of the game. It's are we screwing up Caleb Williams' future already the way that we may have done with Justin Fields? Now, to be honest, I never thought Fields was very good anyway. He was a system quarterback at Ohio State. I was not a huge Justin Fields guy. I don't think the NFL is enamored by him. Hence, he was traded for what a six-round pick I think it was to Pittsburgh. He's not a starter in this league. If he is, he's not a very good one. Okay, let's get that out of the way.

But still, it wasn't as if the Bears gave him an opportunity to really grow. And with Caleb Williams, I do think you have something special. I have to... Look, it's a Friday after Thanksgiving.

People spend time with the family. There is one positive I will take out of this, Art, that no one's really talking about today, okay? First of all, give Caleb Williams a lot of credit for how he brought that team back in a game that could have very easily have gotten out of hand. It looked like Detroit was rolling. He was sacked about like four or five times.

And you know what? He bounced up. He kept coming. And here's a guy that was down at one point by 23 to 7 in that third quarter. And he brought that team back to 23 to 20 with an opportunity to tie or win it, which would have been an amazing comeback and would have spoiled Detroit, by the way, on a Thanksgiving. The first one they've won in, I think, seven or eight tries. First one Dan Campbell's ever won, by the way, as a head coach of that team.

They had no luck on Thanksgiving. And that final throw he made, Art, and again, I'm taking a positive out of a major negative here. The final throw of that game that he threw to Rome, Odunze, was a brilliant pass.

Just go back if you haven't seen it or if you were too shocked to really follow it or watch replays of it. But that throw he made at the end of the game, under pressure, with the pressure of a win or a loss right there, was a brilliant pass. Only where his receiver could get it, there was safety help coming for the cornerback and he put it out of the reach of the safety.

And if Rome, Odunze doesn't stop and turn the wrong way and slow down and watch at the end there, because that's exactly what happens. He turns, I believe, to the left instead of the right, slows down by doing so, and the ball's about three yards in front of him. If he looks over the right shoulder and just keeps running in stride, that ball is perfectly in his hands and he's in there for a game-winning touchdown.

Art, look, again, people are shocked by the ending. They may not have looked at the actual play closely, but watch the throw from Caleb Williams. If you have a doubt if he's any good or not, don't look at the fact that he's had a rough season. Look at the fact that he's playing for an inept organization like the Bears with a terrible head coach, a terrible offensive coordinator, got fired, and he's still doing what he did yesterday, giving them a chance to beat a team that was 10-1 coming up on a nine-game winning streak, okay? They've now won 10 in a row and he had them in a position to win and that was a beautiful pass, Art.

Beautiful pass. Well, he comes from a great program at USC and he won a Heisman Trophy, so yes, yes, I do expect that from him and he did perform well. Unfortunately, he's got a bad team, yes. He's got a bad team, but that's the positive if you're a Bears fan that you take from that game. You have a quarterback that I think is actually really good and it's not as if the Bears have developed any quarterbacks. Look at the long line of pathetic quarterbacks they have either drafted or brought in. If I sit here and tell you that Jake Cutler is probably the best Bears quarterback, and no offense to Jim McMahon, but Jake Cutler is the best Bears quarterback since Sid Luckman, by the way, I'm probably correct, right?

They've tried. They drafted the Cade McNowns of the world. They've drafted quarterbacks in the first round and none of them pan out.

The only guy that actually was half decent was Jake Cutler and they had to trade a couple of first round picks to Denver to get them. But I'm telling you, Williams is legit and I know people are like, well, they drafted the wrong guy. Jayden Daniels is fantastic and this guy's, you know, the next coming of Lamar Jackson and so on and so forth. Caleb Williams can play football at a very high level.

He's a heck of a player. He's a Heisman Trophy winner. Well, I can give you a long lineage of Heisman Trophy winners art that didn't amount to squat, but I do believe- Especially USC Heisman Trophy winners.

Yeah, where do you start with that list, right? But overall, look at other ones, Eric Crouch, Jason White, the list goes on and on of Heisman Trophy winners who didn't amount to anything in the NFL. I don't think Williams is going to be that guy and people have been very critical of him and I understand that he's kind of a strange guy, right? He like paints the fingernails and he's a renaissance man type of thing.

I get it, whatever. All I know is he can play football at a very high level and he's actually very good and you saw that yesterday in a game that they could have lost. They could have lost that game 42 to 10. They really could have, but he kept going and going and he led eight yard, seven, eight play, 70 yard drive, eight play, 65 yard drive, 12 play, 58 yard drive that of course ended with the stupidity of clock management from the head coach. But in reality, he played at a high level and made a tremendous throw on that final play. That third down throw that he made was good enough to literally win them the football game. And if they do, yeah, we'd be talking about the clock management, but to a point you'd be excusing it like, yeah, yeah, they script the clock management, but man, what a throw from Williams to Udunze.

That's why they drafted those guys both so high. That's the future of the Bears organization. It's the Bears. It's the Bears. We have to get to the Giants as well.

Oh man. We have to get to the Giants as well because bad teams just do bad things. Bad teams find ways to lose games. Bad teams will back themselves up with penalties. And we clearly saw that with the Giants yesterday.

We'll get to them, of course, coming up on the show as well. But we got a lot of football talk coming up this hour. Mike Sandow, he will join us, the athletic NFL senior writer. We'll get his thoughts, by the way, on what we witnessed with Matt Everflus.

And does he survive into next Sunday? Look, you know, the Jets fired Robert Sala. Heck, they even took out the GM while football is still going on. It's not unheard of for teams to fire head coaches in the middle of a season. But here's the funny thing about the Bears.

They're four and eight, right? They haven't won a road game this year and they probably won't. But they're not in the market for a quarterback. They're not in the market for a number one receiver. It's not a bad job. They just have to get the right guy to want to take that job and finally turn things around. If Dan Campbell can do what he's done with the Lions, an organization that probably has a lot of fans, an organization that perennially was one of the worst in football.

And here they are at 11-1, best record in the NFC. And his IQ is not the highest either. No. Look, I mean, he was... Look, I like the guy. Colorful character.

But no one ever thought of him as an Einstein, right? And he screwed up last year in the playoffs. Oh, yeah. Not sure I trust him in a big Super Bowl type of matchup against Andy Reid and the Chiefs, but still, or, you know, Nick Sirianni, although I think Sirianni is also kind of a strange cat. But I'll be honest with you, I think that it comes down to the fact that this Detroit Lions team showed us a lot yesterday. They've buried a lot of demons and winning on Thanksgiving is one of them because they hadn't won on Thanksgiving in so long.

All right. Plenty of football to go. It is our number one here. Dan Schwartzman in for Rich Eisen, the Rich Eisen Show. Of course, Colin, if you'd like, give us your thoughts. 844204 Rich.

That's 8442047424. Does Matt Everfluse survive a week? We should do an over and under in that. Mike Sando, the athletic NFL senior writer, will join us next.

Dan Schwartzman in for Rich on Black Friday. It's the Bears. Let's talk sleep number people. There's a reason why sleep number is the official sleep and wellness partner of the National Football League, because in the NFL, there's no margin for error. One mistake can change the outcome of a game and science proves quality sleep can help boost reaction time, recovery time, and overall athletic performance. Imagine what it can do for you. I know about it. My sleep number setting is 60.

My wife's is 70. It's just 10 numbers of different, but it really does make the difference. We can adjust our side of the bed the way that we want and get the perfect quality sleep that we need to be more ourselves and work around the kids. It's awesome. Get ready and get yourself to a sleep number store. If you're in the market for a new bed, you should stop at a sleep number store.

And why not? It's awesome. Again, is a reason why it's the official sleep and wellness partner of the National Football League.

844-204-RICH, that's 844-204-7424 the number. Your thoughts on the bears. How long does Matt Eberfluss last after that debacle of a finish to yesterday's loss of the lines 23 to 20? We should set it over and under. Week? Two weeks? Whatever it is, I'm taking the under. If he survives this meeting today with the GM and the team present slash CEO, something's wrong.

All right? Because there's no way he deserves to keep his job. The one guy that's not going to have a job probably at the end of this year is Brian Dable, the head coach of the New York Giants. Because they also, look, they had a valiant comeback. They had a terrible third quarter. They're down 27-10. And then the Giants come back. They make an interesting game 27-20. But bad teams find ways to lose.

They do. And you saw that yesterday as well. You know, they're down 27-13. They had just gotten the field goal to make it a two touchdown game. They get that 29-yard pass completion from Drew Locke to Malik Nabors, the impressive rookie wide receiver out of LSU.

And what happens? It comes back 10 yards because of a holding penalty. They're backed up to the 10-yard line.

Completely different story. First and 10 at your 49-yard line after a 29-yard gain. And now it's first and 20 at your 10-yard line. See, good teams can't do that. Because at the end of this one, losing by a touchdown, you can point to something like that and say to yourself, we completely screwed ourselves. You get a big game like that and it comes back because of a holding penalty. Guys have to be smarter.

They have to be smarter. And that's why a team like the New York Giants are 2-10. You are what your record is. They're a bad team. And they've been a bad team for a decade now. In fact, both New York teams stink. And I'm a jet fan. Rich is a jet fan.

He'll tell you. They're just a bad football team. Bad football teams make bad plays. Look, I'm not going to sit here and tell you the Cowboys are a good team. I don't think they're a good team. They're 5-7. They finally won a home game. It took them six tries to actually win a home game this year. How is it that an NFL team can't win at home?

You got Jerry's World, right? AT&T Stadium. Massive place. Beautiful place.

High-tech. As nice as it gets. Maybe it's too nice for them. Maybe they get there and it's like, wow, we're in the lap of luxury. And they relax themselves a bit because I don't understand it. They're 1-5 at home if you change that and you put them in a position where they're at least, I don't know, 4-2, which is respectable.

That's pretty good. You're talking about a team. You know, you're talking about a team that obviously would be right up there battling Washington for second in the NFC East behind Philadelphia.

But because of the fact they cannot win at home, they're 5-7. Dak Prescott's out. Not that he was playing very well this year. And by the way, how about Jimmy Johnson saying, when he's talking about the state of the Cowboys, saying they shouldn't have paid him that money. What four years, $240 million contract they gave him before the start of the season.

Maybe he's right. I never thought Dak was great. I thought he's a good quarterback.

I'm not sure he deserves to be the highest paid player in the game. And I understand the way that the dynamics work, by the way, in the NFL where the quarterback position, it's who's next, right? Whichever quarterback comes up with a big contract, if he's available, he's going to get the highest paid contract regardless of the fact if he's the best player or not. The two best quarterbacks in the NFL are what? Pat Mahomes, Josh Allen?

Aidan O'Connell? Aidan O'Connell, of course, is in that conversation as well from our Raiders fan who somehow still has hair after all these years of pulling it out being a Raiders fan. I'm a Jets fan.

I still have my hair, but it's clearly changed some colors probably because of the stress of being a Jets fan. But, you know, when Dak Prescott's making $60 million coming off a contract that paid him, I think $140 million, you just say to your self, okay, this is getting sick now. This is getting unbelievable. It's not like Dak Prescott is getting this team even closer to a Super Bowl.

He's not. And yet every quarterback out there, when he sees that his contract's coming up in a year or two, starts salivating because he knows regardless of being great or pretty good, he's going to end up being the highest paid player in the league for a short period of time until the next guy comes up. And here's why. Because teams are desperate for quarterback help, right? There's no position that is overdrafted in an NFL draft than quarterback. Guys get drafted as first round picks who clearly don't have first round grades, and that's because teams are desperate to try to find themselves a franchise quarterback. Why is it every year you can draft three to five quarterbacks, right?

When it happens every year, that's because teams are missing. You look at my Jets, for instance, right? You draft Sam Darnold third overall, it doesn't work out. You draft Zach Wilson second overall, it doesn't work out. You have to import a guy named Aaron Rodgers, who's obviously clearly past his prime, that's not worked out.

And now the Jets, one of the worst teams in football, and they're going to be looking to draft a quarterback in a draft that's not very good at the position, and they're going to probably have to overdraft a player who probably doesn't even have a first round grade. Is Shadore Sanders really that good to where he should be a number one pick, number two pick? I don't think so. Is Ward at Miami a guy that deserves to be picked in the top five?

No. Jalen Milro. He's terrible. There's no way Milro's a first round pick.

No way. I mean, but again, in the overdrafting in the NFL today, he probably is. He's athletic. You'll go to the combine, put up some ridiculous numbers, and next thing you know, oh my god, Jalen Milro's the best. He's great. Oh my goodness. You gotta bring in this Jalen Milro kid.

He's awesome. That's what happens. It's the overdrafting of the position. Quinn, you were at Texas? I don't know.

Although watch, this is what's going to happen, Art. I'm going to tell you right now. You know, last year you had Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, you know, J.J. McCarthy, who I do believe was overdrafted. Bo Nixis played well for Denver, by the way, and I thought he was... Surprisingly, yeah. Surprisingly. He's been pretty good.

I did not see that one coming, I will admit, readily on the show here. But watch one of these guys in this draft that we are talking about. I'm not disparaging these guys. I'm just telling you how it is.

They're not really that great. All right, to go off on the tangent, now, if somebody takes Sidor Sanders, do they make a package deal with Deon? Nah.

Well... Yeah, think about it. That's up to Deon. You know, Deon can manipulate this any way he wants.

Absolutely, he can. Yeah. See, this is the worry I have. The Giants, they can need a new head coach. No, but Art, here's the worry. Raiders probably can use a new head coach. Yeah, because Antonio Pierce is not the guy.

But here's the thing, though, Art. I think when you break it down and you decide you want to draft Sidor Sanders, even if Deon is not your head coach, you are going to have to put up with that overbearing father at the high school game. Yeah, so you might as well make him the head coach. You might as well make him the head coach.

Why not? But no, because here's the problem with that. If Deon doesn't work out in two or three years and say Sidor Sanders is actually a pretty good player at the NFL level and he truly is your franchise quarterback, you fire his father, are you turning off Sanders from signing an extension with you?

Yeah, pretty much. Are you angering him to where he doesn't want to be with your organization anymore because you may have wronged his father in your eyes? It may be a lose-lose situation because I don't think Deon's a head coach in the NFL right now.

I don't either. Let him keep going. Look, he's doing a nice job at Colorado this year. I'd give him credit.

I didn't really see this coming. He's got himself a heck of a quarterback recruit, the kid that they just flipped, highest recruit Colorado's had in years, five-star, legit number two rated recruit in some of the publications. Legit player here? Okay, like Lewis is the kid's name. Let's see what you do with the guy. Let him stay at Colorado.

Build that program up a bit more. I have been impressed. Listen, I've sat down. I've talked to Deon more than one time. I like Deon. He is a thoughtful guy. He is not one of these guys that blows smoke up your you-know-what. He's not a guy that just sits there and goes through the motions with short answers and yes, no, because you can tell he doesn't want to be there.

He'd rather be getting, you know, his fingernails pulled, which some guys, by the way, are like that. Deon will sit there with you and he will be thoughtful and he will think about the answers. He will give you very good answers. He will not rush you. You feel like you know the guy. I like Deon.

I do. But let's not jump ahead of you and think he's head coaching material yet in the NFL. He may be one day. He might. I'm not going to turn it down and say, not going to happen.

He might. But I'd rather see Deon cut his teeth a bit more at the college level to make sure he is 100% prepared to make that jump. But if you're a team like the Giants, you're looking for a quarterback. You're a team like the Jets, you are clearly looking for a quarterback. The Raiders. You're a team like the Raiders, you are looking for a quarterback. You're the, you know, Cleveland Browns might be looking for a quarterback, although they're paying Deshaun Watson literally till 2050.

That's pathetic. At this point. Jacksonville's not looking for a quarterback. If you're Tennessee, you might be looking for a quarterback at this point.

Right? If you're Carolina, you're not unless you decide to trade Bryce Young, but I don't see that happening. But there's teams obviously that are quarterback hungry. Do they get so desperate if Chidor Sanders separates himself from the rest of the quarterback field via the pro day and the combine that maybe you do say, look, maybe you're not looking at us as a destination because Deon said it a couple weeks ago or last week, right?

He wants to make sure it's the right fit for his son. Well, I hate to tell, tell you the Jets ain't the right fit for any kid playing quarterback because all they do is they ruin quarterbacks. Right? Cleveland kind of similar as well. No offense to the Raiders. See the Jets, the Jets don't have a head coach though.

Well, they will. They first need a general manager. Let's not bring them both in. Bring Deon and Chidor in. Deon can be the GM and the coach if he wants, right?

Of the Jets, yeah. He can be the Belichick without actually having an NFL win. As a coach, assistant, or head, I don't see it happening.

Well, here's the other thing. What if Chidor dictates that his dad gets a job with him? I still don't see that happening.

Are you still drafting him? If he says, I'm not going unless you hire my dad as a head coach. That's the leverage.

Look, they both have incredible leverage here. Here's the problem with that. Look, the Jets brought in Aaron Rodgers and the perception, reality or not- He's 40 years old, 45 years old. No, but they've let him, he's 41 I think this week. Happy birthday, Aaron Rodgers.

But here's the problem. When they brought in Aaron Rodgers, they handed him the keys to the GM's office as well, right? He went out, they brought in Randall Cobb. They brought in Allen Lazard. Devante Adams.

Devante Adams. They brought in Turner, the left tackle, Billy Turner. They brought in other guys because they brought in Tim Boyle as a backup quarterback because that was his buddy there. They brought in all his buddies. They assembled the band and they stink, right?

That's the problem. So if you do that and you bring in Shadore Sanders, and by the way, Rodgers is a four-time MVP, one of the greatest players in the history of football. It's a little bit more understanding than bringing in a kid fresh out of college who's never thrown an NFL pass and you say, here's the keys to the castle.

If you want to bring your dad, we're all for it. Can Deon maybe work at the quarterbacks, help them out as well? I mean, he's one of the greatest in the history of football, but all kidding aside, look, I do think this is a legitimate conversation we're having here because there is that potential that Deon, if he does want to bounce to the NFL as a head coach right now, this is the easiest way for him to do so. If there's no Shadore Sanders, I don't think Deon Sanders is getting an NFL head coaching job next year. Maybe he gets an interview here or there, but he's not getting the job. But because he's got the leverage of potentially the top quarterback pick in the NFL draft, that's a heck of a lot of leverage for teams that are desperate. Look, a quarterback changes your fortunes, right? Denver's seven and five and Bo Nix has been pretty good.

Washington is seven and five. No one has seen the commanders. No one saw this coming with them. I know they've lost three straight, but Jayden Daniels has turned the fortunes of that organization around. A quarterback that has a future, that has talent changes the entire face and dynamic of an organization. Look at the Texans from last year. Yes. Look at the Texans, exactly right.

Their fortunes changed instantly. And then guys who don't really work out, you see it in the results of the team. Look, Trevor Lawrence has never lived up to being as hyped as he was, right? He's never lived up to it. He's good. He's got great hair though.

Great hair. Ridiculously overpaid because he's a quarterback. He's never earned that contract he got, but you can't lose to Trevor Lawrence, right? He was it.

He was the best quarterback to come out of college since Andrew Luck. I think it was undefeated. Wasn't he undefeated? At Clemson? I think he, well, he was like 33 and one or something.

Something ridiculous like that. I don't think he was undefeated, but I don't think he lost more than one or two games in his entire college career. And by the way, he was the number one overall recruit coming out of high school. He lived up to it in college at Clemson. He was the generational quarterback talent coming out. And rightfully so at that point. Look, at that point, Trevor Lawrence deserved the moniker of being a generational talent at the quarterback position.

Hard to argue based on how good he was at Clemson and his talent level. But here we are a few years later and what are we looking at, right? Okay, we've got breaking news coming in. We've got it. It's coming in. Remember fluce fired?

Yes. I like what we did there. Again, once it's under seven, you know, you're gonna call time out there or actually under 12. And then really you don't have an option. You know, because it's third to fourth, you got to throw it into the end zone then. So to me, it's, I think we handled it the right way.

I do believe that, you know, you just re-rack the play, get it in, bounce and call time out. And that's why we held it and didn't work out the way we wanted it to. I'm seeing it everywhere. It's, okay, let's take a look here. What we got. We know you had the meeting today, obviously, with...

The score is breaking in. Is it coming up? Okay. All right. We will try to... We will confirm this. We will try to confirm this report, but no surprise.

So I guess I was correct by taking the under, right, on every fluce lasting a week. Yeah. Congratulations to me.

I'm gonna go buy a lot of... It's the Bears. It's the Bears. It's the Bears.

It is the Bears and the offensive coordinator got the heave-ho. All right. There's a second. TSM is reporting it.

All right. I'm seeing it here now as well. Yep. Ian Rapoport is now reporting it as well. Chicago with the NFL's third head coach. ESPN is reporting it.

Yep. It's now being reported everywhere. So it looks like Ebru Flus can now take his family and get good deals at stores because it's Black Friday today because he does not have a job yet has a very high paying salary. Remember, you get fired, you still collect. I never want to see somebody fired. Let's put that out there. I don't want to see people fired, but this really comes as no shock based on what we saw.

You don't survive an absolute head-scratching way to lose a game that you frankly could have won or even tied to take it over time where anything could happen. So no surprise, but breaking news, Matt Ebru Flus has been let go by the Chicago Bears as the head coach after yesterday's debacle in that loss to the Lions. Let that sink in. We're going to take a quick break here and we will continue to bring you this story because again, no surprise, but the Chicago Bears making a big move today after the meeting between Ebru Flus, Ryan Polza GM, and the CEO slash president of the Bears organization. Dan Schwartzman filling in on Black Friday.

I think that means we're done for the year. I love this bunny. He's the hardest working helper the North Pole has ever seen and he wants all your gifts to have the power of the number one longest lasting AA battery. So, this holiday season, stock up on Santa's and the elves' favorite battery, Energizer Ultimate Lithium. Dan Schwartzman for Rich Eisen on this Black Friday, the Rich Eisen Show. You want to hop on with us? 844-204-rich.

That's 844-204-7424. Started the hour off talking about the pathetic clock management of the Chicago Bears and head coach Matt Eberflus yesterday. In a game they could have either tied or even potentially have won it. But I guess you want to keep that time out for winning in the locker room so you can tell guys, hey, time out.

Go in the corner. Didn't work out today. A little meeting with Eberflus, Ryan Polz, and the team president slash CEO as well.

And the breaking news that just came down is that Eberflus is out. No longer the head coach of the Chicago Bears. Pro Football Talk's Josh Alpert joining us first off. Josh, happy Thanksgiving to you and the family. Hope you did not overeat yourself yesterday. How are you, my friend? I'm doing great. Happy Thanksgiving to you as well. Thank you as well. Now, let's get right to it.

This job has opened up, I guess, really no surprise. I want to go back though to yesterday. You're sitting there probably enjoying some turkey. You're watching this game. What goes through your head watching the final 36 seconds of that one? I was kind of wondering if the Bears had lost all sense of time, space, and everything else. I couldn't quite figure out what in the world was going on and why they were not calling a time out.

At the very least, spiking the ball to give themselves one more chance to move the ball into field goal range and kick after that sack. It would have been more shocking, I suppose, if not for the fact that Matt Eberflus made a ton of in-game mistakes over the time that he was the Bears' coach. But this was one that felt so inconceivable to me that I was speechless, quite frankly. And probably to the point you weren't shocked to hear this news that just came down a few minutes ago that he is no longer the head coach of the Chicago Bears, I presume, right? No surprise to you. Only that the Bears have never fired a head coach during a season before.

That just shows you the magnitude of this error. That they let him do a press conference this morning is also the only other part that's mildly surprising that you wouldn't have just taken care of that first thing in the morning. I don't know if time management is a problem throughout the organization or what, but it was a strange sequence of events, if not a strange outcome.

What gets me is he has a meeting and maybe Ryan Polz has shown the door right after him, but he hasn't been there very long. But is it time? Look, the Jets just cleaned house, right? It hasn't worked out for them this year. So Salah goes first. Ulbricht comes in.

That hasn't worked out. So Joe Douglas goes next. Is it time for Chicago to go the full throttle clean house here, or is Ryan Polz a guy that you think they have confidence in that can actually make the proper hire next and get this team back on the right footing?

It'll be interesting to see if it goes that route. To me, one thing I remember all offseason is all we kept hearing about was how much talent there was around Caleb Williams and how good a job that Ryan Polz, what a good job Ryan Polz did putting together a roster around him. Now, I think in hindsight, that seems overly rosy. This is a bad offensive line and the defense isn't where it needs to be. But if you feel good about the pieces that you have in terms of guys like Caleb Williams and DJ Moore and Roma Dunze, and that defense was pretty good for large chunks of last season. If you feel good about those pieces and you look at the Hail Mary game against the commanders, you look at the block field goal that that lost against Green Bay.

And if you look at yesterday and let's say, you know, maybe they don't win that game yesterday, but at least they should have pushed it to overtime, I think at the very least. And you say that those were coaching related issues and not talent related issues. Maybe that does give Ryan Polz another chance. I think that it becomes tough, though, if when you have Polz and you have a quarterback who is young, and clearly you're committed to Caleb Williams, and you're going to be committed to him, even though this season hasn't been quite as successful as you would have liked. Having those things in place may be less appealing to some coaching candidates because of the lack of that fresh start. But I could see where it's also that, you know, some roster continuity and a team that that maybe needed, you know, just a little bit of a boost akin to, you know, what we, you know, what we've seen in Washington this year with Dan Quinn or the Chargers with Jim Harbaugh, and say that that makes it a more appealing situation.

I, you know, I think it could really go both ways. But I think that Polz will be there through the end of the season, at least it doesn't seem like they're making a complete change right now. Pro Football Talk's Josh Alper joining us here on the Rich Eisen Show.

Dan Schwartzman in for Rich on this Black Friday. Look, I like Caleb Williams for what they've gone through as a team this season with obviously now a new head coach, the offensive coordinator, coordinator got let go, bad offensive line. He had an opportunity to win that game, made a great throw, by the way, on that final play. Tuesday kind of slowed down because he looked over the wrong shoulder, but it was a great throw.

Played, you know, played hard. I like what they have there. So let's look ahead now. You know, the Jets have an opening, the Giants may have an opening, there'll be a couple more openings as well. But if you look at the Bears, it's actually not a bad job because you mentioned the fact that there is that talent with Williams, Odunze, and of course Moore. Do they kind of go number one in your book in terms of potential openings because they have that young quarterback that people look at and say, I can mold him into a star? I think the quarterback, if you like Caleb Williams, then there will certainly be, you know, he was the consensus number one pick. Nobody was really making much of an argument otherwise.

I think you're going to find plenty of people who do like him and I think that that is appealing. However, you know, you're in a division where the other three teams all have eight wins right now and could all, you know, be coming off a playoff berth. It's a tough spot to be in when you are trying to come up and catch teams that have a big head start on you. The quarterback certainly helps.

Other pieces there certainly help. As of right now, I would certainly rank that as a better job than the Jets or the Saints, which are the other ones that we know are going to be open. And, you know, there are some other ones that could be more interesting, but you're not going to get a job opening with a quarterback like Williams anywhere else.

So I think that probably will leave it pretty high on the list. But it does feel like this organization has the same kind of issues that you might see with the Jets or the Giants or the Cowboys that limit some interest in the potential openings and an actual opening with the Jets. Last question, Josh, I believe you're a New Yorker. I think we actually went to high school together. I might be wrong, but I've had this image in my head for years. But, Josh, here's the thing. You know, Brian Dable, again, yesterday, the Giants sloppy. They lose the game. They have lost seven straight. Things are not going in the right direction. Is it time do you think that he's going to be looking for a new job or are the Giants who usually are fairly patient? Do you think he gets another year?

Because it may not be an appealing job because they don't have a quarterback. Well, you know, the Giants were a very patient team for for a long time. You're right.

I am a New Yorker and I believe I was in high school with your brother and a little bit older than you, but same high school. I was correct about that. Yeah, you were correct. I think I think that John Mara doesn't want to fire Brian Dable or Joe Shane.

I really think he doesn't. But I think this has been such an embarrassment of a season for them. And a lot of it, I think, stems back to that hard knocks in the off season. And to hear John Mara say how upset he'll be to see Saquon Barkley do well with the Eagles and to see Saquon Barkley doing what he's doing with the Eagles is it is something that is that when Daniel Jones is not going to finish the season on the roster, forget as the starter.

And these are the decisions that are the, you know, the linchpin of what this era has been. It's only been three years, but the team made the playoffs the first year with this duo. They won a playoff game and now they've completely fallen apart. And I think that it would be absolute that they're out if it wasn't for the fact that Pat Shurmur, Joe Judge, Ben McAdoo, everyone Post Coplin has been such a, you know, two years and done. Yeah, I think the Giants don't want to have, you know, they don't want to face a fan base and sell that. But this team's two and 10 came out, you know, Dave all said today, Dexter Lawrence is likely out for the rest of the season. You may be looking at a two and 15 team here.

It is very hard to justify bringing back the coach of a team that bad. No, no question about it. Pro Football Talks, Josh Alper. Josh, appreciate you hopping on short notice there and happy holidays to you and the family, my friend. Thank you so much. All right, absolutely.

There you have it. So you went to high school with my brother, a little older than my brother. I knew it, Art. He's like, I know that guy. I didn't really know him, but the name's familiar. Wow, you're popular. You know that? You know, I'm 46. My mind hasn't gone yet. How about that?

That's impressive, right? Taking something for that? I want to talk about these rankings of the head coaching openings of jobs that we know are there and potential jobs such as the Giants. We'll do that next hour, two of the Rich Eisen show. Van Schwartzman in for Rich on this Friday. That's coming up next. Coming out of the gate hot. Come react or overreact with us overreaction Monday, wherever you listen, it's game over, over, man.
