I want to talk about that face mask from last Thursday. You know what's also that's been going on too as you've been seeing it in college football. The targeting calls they come in and they some of them are well-intentioned others are just playing football man.

Yeah I feel like that happens a lot. There was one called against the Buckeyes they called against the Buckeyes and Michigan State. Michigan State lost its captain against Michigan for something that looked like playing football and just flag them and be done with it. Why do we have to kick them out? Yeah why do we have to eject these kids and then they have to sit out right yeah they have to sit out the first half of the next game.

Yeah there should be a difference between what is a 15-yard penalty and kicking you out of the game right? Yeah I think so. So it's a lot there's a lot to talk about with Mike Pereira um and that'll be on Tuesday show. Who's your guest for no contest wrestling this week? I don't know if we actually I don't want to say it yet but it's it's a good one. I'm pretty sure we've got one and if you know wrestling and you think of strong men yes this man is the strongest of them all and I'll leave it at that. Seems like you've described most of the wrestling world to be honest.

But there but there's one who's strong there's one who is stronger maybe the strongest of all time. Those are all available through the Rich Eisen show uh podcast network through the Cumulus podcast network appreciate that is our next guest right is he is all situated he looks he's all suited the hair looks perfect he's getting ready to go to Jeff pass and how are you you're ready to go huh you're ready to go that's world's world series rich I gotta be I have some guesses on the wrestler I'm not gonna I'm not gonna do it I was just about to say I bet you're passing those oh yeah talk about for sure go ahead Jeff just give me and then it's fine what do you got is it is it's either Mark Henry or Braun Strowman hmm it's one of the two it's one of the two my guy Jeff pass and see I didn't get it I didn't want to give it away but just say you know like a little bit of a tease I like that I like your style Jeff I like this very good thank you you know I'm always looking out for you guys passing man uh all right let's just jump in here is Otani playing tonight what do you think yeah I think so I mean unless something happens pre-game it looks like he's going to and considering like how he was on the ground right writhing in pain it was like oh boy this is this is not good and you know I I think when we a couple of reporters including my colleague Jesse Rogers saw him walking out of the Dodgers clubhouse after game two without a sling on and without any accoutrements on his arm and at that point it was like all right maybe you know maybe it's not as bad as as we thought it was going to be and it's not like they had to take him out of the game because he's the DH and his turn in the order didn't come up again so we really definitively didn't know how bad it was but then Dave Roberts yesterday told our Karl Ravitch that it looks like he's going to play and here we are and look the Yankees need every advantage that they can get at this point and not having Shohei Otani in there would have been pretty advantageous for them now uh because the the Fox microphones embedded in the bases I think picked up um a conversation between Shohei and uh what the interpreter that came out with the trainer and I think a trainer or the trainer came out you could hear him basically say his shoulder popped out and so do we know what he actually suffered in game two yeah it's it is a subluxation which is not a a full dislocation of the shoulder just a very slight one and you know guys have come back from sublux shoulders pretty quickly now the problem is once that happens once you are at risk of it happening again whether it's on a swing or if you play in the field you know you dive for something I don't think we're going to be seeing Shohei Otani steal any bases anymore in this World Series but the fact that he's not playing a position right now really does help his cause he's going to have somewhere between four and five at bats tonight and as long as he feels like he can swing at full strength because look it's the World Series man like you can't be going 70 or 80 or 90 you have to be at 100 to be your best and the Dodgers have enough good options otherwise where if Shohei Otani needed to sit out their lineup would be just fine. Jeff Passan here on the Rich Eisen show why did why did Aaron Boone go to Nestor Cortez instead of Tim Hill why does he go to a guy who hadn't pitched in 37 days to try and get Otani and Freeman and and not the guy that maybe earned his stripes in the first two previous series in the playoffs and Tim Hill Jeff? Yeah I don't think that's the right question to ask Rich I think the right question is why didn't he stay with Luke Weaver and that's the question that Aaron Boone is himself asking at this point Luke Weaver had only 19 pitches and I understand it's not typical for relievers to have two up downs you know you finish anything you go down you get back up and then you finish that inning and get back up one more time but the reality is Luke Weaver has been the best pitcher in the Yankees bullpen this postseason the guy who has gone multiple innings multiple times to close out games and while it would certainly have put him down for game two putting in somebody like Jake Cousins and and having him get into trouble which is what prompted the decision to face the top of the lineup with Nestor Cortez the the whole thing was a real mess now I think the Cortez has over hill decision has been a little bit overblown in the sense that if you feel like he's good enough to put on the roster then you feel like he's good enough to put into leverage spots his logic when it comes to first and second one out Otani at the plate Tim Hill is a ground ball guy Shohei Otani does not ground into double plays so after that you have Mookie Betts you're not going to want to pitch to him even even with Tim Hill being more of a ground ball guy and then you have Hill versus Freeman we hadn't seen going into this series any power from Freddy Freeman so that ambushed fastball that he hit 400 feet for the walk off grand slam I think that was surprising to everybody including people in the Dodgers dugout but this is the kind of decision that has the chance to haunt Aaron Boone because every choice that you make rich in a world series game is magnified and is dissected exponentially more than the ones during the regular season and in this case he chose wrong and we will be hearing about this the rest of our natural born baseball lives and beyond right Jeff that moment from game one right it was it was so cool here's here's the way that I know a moment in a baseball game is cool okay it's when I stand up and curse like I did it for Roger Davis like I just stand up and I was like I'm not gonna say it but you can imagine what I would say right in that instance and and with Freddy Freeman it was it wasn't quite to that level because it was game one not game seven but it was an epic moment and and just the the cap of a really great baseball game and I hope that fans not just the ones who are tuning in to watch the Dodgers and Yankees and root for them but the the fans who were tuning in to see good baseball felt like they were treated to that because there's been some really good baseball in each of these first two games. Jeff Passan here on the Rich Eisen show so what was what what do you what from what you're hearing the conversation about what ails Aaron Judge for I mean he's chasing pitches he would spit on any any day of the week throughout the rest of the regular season he's a he's uh he's his timing's off he's out on front feet where he never would like and and you know do you tip your cap like what are the Dodgers doing differently or or what like what are you hearing right now what's the what's the general conversation Jeff you know what he's in a slump and he's in a slump in a really inopportune time and when you compound all of these factors rich number one his swing does not feel great right now so when your swing doesn't feel great maybe you're getting a little antsy and you see Glaber Torres and Juan Soto and Giancarlo Stanton the guys who surround you in the lineup all having really good post seasons and you feel like you know I'm not contributing right now I need to like I need to do something and he hasn't been doing anything at this point and so he starts pressing a little bit and when you start pressing all of a sudden that takes you out of the things that brought you there right Aaron Judge is where he is going to win his second American League MVP award because he does not go chasing on pitches and because he hunts those mistakes in the middle of the plate I thought maybe the most telling one of all was he had two accounts on Yoshinobu Yamamoto in game two and he watched a fastball go right down the middle past him Aaron Judge normally takes pitches like that and and sends them into orbit and he didn't even trigger his swing at this point so when you have the physical his swing not where it needs to be his timing not where it needs to be and you compound that with the mental which is I have to be doing this I've got to I've got all of it is a recipe for absolute disaster he needs to hit the reset button and hitting the reset button Rich in the middle of the world series is an extraordinarily difficult thing to do even for the guy who has proven himself over the last few years as the best hitter alive and I guess you know obviously Judge gets the focus Jeff but the bottom third of the lineups right now the Dodgers are dominating that right now you know the Kiki Hernandez and I know Edmund bats a little higher sometimes uh Lux sometimes you know obviously Muncie's down around six it depends on Will Smith right like it's so those guys getting on base for Otani, Betts and Freeman and Volpe, Wells, Verdugo not getting on base for Torres, Soto and Judge that might be the end of it too right I mean that might be the difference yeah yeah Rich what you're doing is essentially laying out the case for why the Dodgers have a two games sit on the lead right now and and these are all things that the Yankees can fix I don't think the Yankees are out of this series yet I just think they haven't played the level of baseball that they need to over the first two games to beat a team as complete as the Dodgers and and there are things that are going to be happening over the next few days that are going to be worth watching today how deep into the game does Walker Bueller go and if he doesn't go deep is Dave Roberts sit there and say well I'm not going to punt this one but I'm not going to chase a win either because I have a bullpen game in game four and I don't want the Yankees getting more and more and more looks at my relief arms because you know there there are numbers that show over the last decade in seven game series the league championship series in the world series when a reliever is seen multiple times in a series you know three four five times in a series which is possible because you have those off days between two and three and five and six when a reliever is seen that many times in a series his performance gets worse and worse and worse over time and the the batters they they look at it like I've seen this before I know this I know the shape of it I know the speed of it I know where it's going to be I know how I have to swing and so the Dodgers want this series to end as quickly as possible because for a team that is as reliant on its bullpen as they are it's going to be imperative that Dave Roberts manages this correctly so that the Yankees don't get those comfortable at bats with relievers in high leverage spots and laid in it. Love a great insight there Jeff and you know after seeing the beginning of game two where cube came out of center field and essentially ended the game before it started that was that was the coolest thing right I was yeah that was it if you've ever been in the Dodgers press box it is it is very cramped quarters yes and so I enjoyed it so much that I was wrapping along knowing that there were like dozens of people like right next to me who would probably be staring at me and judging I didn't give a damn it was okay it was like it was a good day yeah like what could you say if I'm if I'm Hal Steinbrenner I was on the phone to Jay-Z before the first pitch and ask him what he's doing in game three like we gotta we gotta we gotta marshal the forces here you know um any idea what the Yankees have planned over the next few days Jeff yeah I do not but remember Jay-Z Jay-Z and Alicia Keys uh performed I believe in the two yeah in the 2009 world series last time the Yankees were in it all right and and the fact that that song has been out for as long as it has is staggering to me but uh yeah they need something look then that's I mean do you go get Nas I don't like I know Nas doesn't doesn't like Nas doesn't hit for the wide audience in the same way that cube necessarily does but if you are a hip-hop ed then you know Nas uh and Illmatic might be the best rap record of all time also Fat Joe Jeff he's from the Bronx get some of these Bronx rappers out there Fat Joe going on I know or finesse or don't mess with success the Yankees won the 09 world series get Jay-Z and Alicia Keys back I don't think Cube was dropping any new hits when he came in from center field on game two like just go back to go back to what works you know what I mean it wasn't it wasn't just the song though it was the presentation of the whole thing like like ice cube just walking in from center field all the way to the center of the diamond it was it was incredible it was one of those moments I've tried in recent years not to be the phone guy like oh my god something cool is happening I'm gonna take out my phone and video it no I was just enjoying the moment and what a great moment that was yeah I'm glad I wasn't the phone guy when Freddy Freeman was up thinking I'm gonna get the flat the last out of the world series and video my 13 year old son's victorious moment at his first ever world series game I didn't I'm glad I didn't do that womp womp indeed Jeff uh enjoy game three and uh and beyond and obviously if it comes back here to LA um uh look me up okay look forward to it take touchdowns one or more rushing touchdowns and no interceptions in the game elway didn't do it three quarterbacks in broncos history have had three or more passing touchdowns one or more rushing touchdowns but threw an interception elway did it twice manning did it once and brock osweiler did it osweiler nix is doing it guys the broncos are doing it and doing it well right they're five and jaden daniels and in super bowl 59 we'll learn that running backs matter because our running back will win the super bowl mvp since the first time since tarell davis okay dylan in vancouver i was ready did you have one more because or did we get them all last last one here last one here yeah rich eisen will join the nfl competition committee okay and make no ground on the funnel to the end uh dylan you're the best dylan in vancouver everybody thanks for calling dylan i appreciate the moxie i mean i love the first two i'm not making the competition committee in my entire life uh i've never seen them it seems unlikely but you never know yeah anything can happen i should though and you guys know it well i mean i think you should be on it i just think some of your views are wrong mike in know a squadron leader for top gun when you're still in the fight school it's not going to happen he needs to sit he needs to sit now they need to sit him they need to play slack oh and they got to play it out that way i i understand that mike let me ask you this question because again by the way i love when you call because it sounds like i'm back home number one but number two it's just like you know uh hearing your passion um is is always great and that said heart of hearts is this a super bowl team mike heart of hearts no but okay even with flaco even with flaco even with the playoffs even with flaco is this with flaco played yesterday you probably would have won that game i understand that but i'm i'm asking you your heart of hearts is this a super bowl winning team and if you're jim ursay and you have handed off the caretaking of this franchise to chris ballard which i think is a smart move i like him and shane stryken who i think is really really good and really smart remember we interviewed him gents pre-season and was we love talking to him and you're doing that and then you could see the skill set that this guy has you've got to play it out you've got to play it out and i know that might be unfair to some veterans in the locker room like deforest buckner only have a certain amount of time left in their careers and they feel like they can win the super bowl ej speed is really you know what i mean like you've got some really good players but this kid has got to learn he's got to learn point he's got to get in if you get in you have a chance so i mean every year you see i mean the new york giants went to super bowls they had no business being in the playoffs really with eli manning i mean you play it out you the main point is you are hurting the player no because this is how quarterbacks get ruined he's not going to develop because he's steering the headlights clueless he can't get any better until he has to sit down you got to put joe flacko on the contract for next year and see if he can actually go through another whole off season and compete for the starting job chris ballad is all about competition competition you have one of the top rated quarterbacks sitting on the bench and you have a quarterback with a 44 percent completion percentage starting i mean compared to carston wince i mean carston wince looks like patrick mahomes compared to this guy so i'm praying for a jimerson intercession here if you've made them bench carson wince please somebody he's not ready there's no shame in it he's just not ready he needs more time to develop and he's not getting any better he's getting worse mike better as a rookie mike thanks for the time appreciate it that's mike at brooklyn yeah and that was my point last week when we talked about it on overreaction monday dude when you draft a quarterback in the top five you've got to live and die with him until it's it's 100 apparent he ain't the guy yeah but that's wilson though rich he was bent she's not bad she's benching now he's on a different team and looked pretty good with denver in the preseason so like you can't use him as that example why is that wilson is a million times better than anthony richardson as a player i i can't sit here and say that and i lived and died with zack wilson and you have to you have to play it out and the part of the the damn shame about it is is is this stuff that you saw where he's admitting he's tired or he gets tired or he throws the bad horrible game altering pass right before halftime doesn't run out of bounds when you need him to doesn't have that sort of situational awareness you you crush you have to have from your quarterback this is the sort of stuff that they missed him playing out and getting better at last year and that means they had to start again this year with a guy who is still a raw rookie who did not have a ton of time at florida and i know he said in his postgame press conference that he's been playing quarterback his entire life not at this level not at this level and if he is one of those guys who can play a type of game altering position like lamar josh allen cam newton where he can run you over he can run past you and he can throw from the pocket and beat you with the neck up if he does have that ability you've got to play out these moments right now he might be the worst quarterback in the league and he needs to be on jordan love plus plan like he needs to sit three four years before he can play he doesn't understand the basic fundamentals of the position that's the way it looks sometimes i'm not gonna i'm not gonna sit here and push back on that it's too bad they win that game yesterday they're five and three and they're the four five seed in the conference are they gonna are they gonna get past the chiefs they're gonna get past the bills but but to the but to the guy's point nobody thought that about the giants every year there are teams from who go on super bowl runs that you don't see coming why can't it be them they have a world-class running back they have a good defense they have playmakers at receiver a good line too they got a good you can't stunt the growth of 52 other men because one just isn't up to par you still have a full roster of of players who who are going out there busting their butts and i i understand what you're saying if you draft a
