Got USC and Penn State here as well. We got NFL news as well with Niko Collins on IR and out for the year. With Aaron Rodgers saying he didn't fire the head coach. With Drake May as the new official, now quarterback for the New England Patriots. With Kevin Stefanski, no surprise, saying he's still calling plays. Did not think that was going to happen. I can't hear you, Hoskin.
Say that again. Niko Collins, not out for the year. Out four weeks. Oh, did I say out for the year?
Yeah. I'm sorry. Niko Collins, I apologize. Rewind that. He is out four weeks. Not out for the year.
My apologies. So those are your NFL headlines. But let's get to the Aaron Rodgers thing because a lot of people just said, oh, oh, he fired the coach. He didn't fire the coach. Now, do I think his play and the average overall play of the offense got the coach fired? Yes.
So if you want to say he fired the coach because, well, the offense didn't play well, then sure. But do I think that he ordered the code red? No, I don't. I do not think that. You can call me crazy.
Call me anything if you want. But I don't think that happened. Aaron Rodgers, we now have the audio tape, was on with Pat McAfee earlier today. And here is what the Jets quarterback said. Yeah.
I mean, yesterday was a day that reminds you of the simple fact that all of us who played know all too well. And that said, it's a tough business. It's a beautiful profession. It's incredible.
It's done so much for our lives, but it's also a really tough business. I love Coach Sala. We have a very solid relationship.
We have since I met him in 2021 and had a nice conversation when they came and visited us for joint practices. He was a big reason why I came to the Jets. I felt like the team was a solid team, had a relationship with Coach Hackett, obviously. And I really liked Coach Sala, everything that Matt Lafleur said about him, the few interactions I've had, the times that we went against him. I just had a lot of respect for him.
So he likes him. He didn't fire him. I don't think he did. I really don't think he went to the owner and said, we got to do this. Yeah.
He also didn't go to bat for him either. This is true. This is true. It sure sounds that way. It sounds that way.
I don't know for sure, but it sounds that way. But you also heard the statement from Jets owner, Woody Johnson, referred to in the statement as Ambassador Johnson, that he was fed up and he probably should have done it earlier. That sounds like, I mean, that's what I read with that statement is I probably should have done this sooner. I don't know why I let him coach this year. I'm reading through the lines. To me, that's what the owner said.
Here's more of Aaron Rogers today. As far as any of the ridiculous allegations out there, I'm not going to spend more than one sentence in response to it. And that is that I resent any of those accusations because they're patently false.
And it's interesting the amount of power that people think that I have, which I don't. I mean, they're literally bringing in his friends year after year. What is he talking about? They are bringing in his friends to play football. He does have influence.
I mean, I guess we're playing the semantics game here, influence and power. There is a level of influence that Aaron Rogers has. If he didn't have that influence, the Jets wouldn't have gone out. And let's say, for example, last year, gotten Randall Cobb and Allen Lazard. Now there were others who wanted Allen Lazard, certainly more than Randall Cobb, but yes, they went out and they got his buddies. They did.
Did they fire the coach because of him? I don't think that's the case, but I laid out these numbers earlier. The offensive numbers this year are not dissimilar to the offensive numbers last year through five games with Zach Wilson. Rogers is playing better, clearly. But the overall offensive performance, the numbers are kind of sort of similar. Now, through all of this, I do think it's a bit early. He's two and three.
Salah was. They play Monday night against the Bills. They win.
They have a share for first, a share for the lead first in the AFC East. I think it's a bit soon. But if you're convinced he's not the guy, you know what? Then do it. But you should have done it in the off season. You should have. You should have.
You should have. Because what is Jeff Ulbrich going to do? They've given up 29 points the last couple of weeks, three weeks, last three weeks, 29 points. What is he going to do that's that much different? Rogers said, well, we need guys held accountable.
Okay. Who do you want held accountable? Are there players that you think Ulbrich will bench that Salah would not?
Are there? Is is holding people accountable, taking play calling duties away from Nathaniel Hackett? I don't know that Rogers wants that and give them to Todd Downing. Now, that hasn't happened yet. But the reports are, if you believe them, that they were going to rather Salah was going to do it yesterday before he got fired. I don't know.
Is that the answer? Is that the holding people accountable that Aaron Rogers demands? It's fascinating now because we can already have the conversation. Who's next? Is Jeff Ulbrich?
I hope he does. Because look, I got to know Jeff a little bit, just a little bit. I know Tom probably said the same thing last year at the Senior Bowl. Tom and I covered the Senior Bowl together for NFL Network. I called the game. Tom was on the sideline doing great reporting all week.
Right? Jeff Ulbrich won a lot of people over Jeff Ulbrich's. Cool guy curses a lot if you watch Hard Knocks.
Oh yeah, big time. There's a lot of cursing. Like, Jeff Ulbrich couldn't coach the Bears because they didn't like cursing and Hard Knocks. That wouldn't have been a good fit, but he's with the Jets.
Okay, that works. He's a good coach. He's a good defensive coach. You've heard all the stories. The Niners wanted him to be there, D.C. last year when D'Amico left.
Right? He's a good coach. But if they don't make a run of the postseason, let's say they don't make the postseason because Jeff Ulbrich, is he going to snap his fingers and fix the offense? Let's say they don't make the postseason. Who's your next Jets coach?
Go ahead, say it. Mike Vrabel. Mike Vrabel is a decent choice.
Consulting with the Browns now. Yeah, why not? It's not going to be Bill, even though that would be pretty fun. Why not? Why would he say yes to that? What are his other offers? Well, there's going to be at least six, seven other openings. That's what we thought last year. He would have all these offers. There was really only one serious conversation, right?
Yeah. It was with Atlanta. Look, I'd hire Bill Belichick, right? As coach, more so than GM. I think Bill's done great on the TV media side thing. There's a lot of Bill Belichick content right now. I mean, he went from a guy barely giving complete sentence answers in press conferences to now on every imaginable media platform there is, right?
Every last one of them. And he's entertaining. And there he is when he was visiting his son, Steven, who is the DC for Jed Fish and the Washington Huskies. That's when he was visiting. I happened to be in town that actual day, that same day.
I was covering the Seahawks that day for Sirius XM NFL radio. Yeah. And by the way, congrats to Jed for that big win over Michigan. Sorry, Rich. Yeah. Bill Belichick to the Jets.
I know there's a lot of animus there. Why not? Unless he says, I don't think we could win with Aaron Rodgers, would that be it?
If we could win with Aaron Rodgers, would that be fascinating if that happened? But if you're Woody, forget Bill wants it. If you're Woody, you have to make the call, right? Oh, you have to. Yeah.
Previous ownership, right? Just, just move on. Yeah. Just move on. Have to call. You've got to make the call. Gotta have to definitely make the call.
Vrabel Goodwin as well. Sure. Absolutely. But you have to make the call. The question is, is Aaron Rodgers back?
And the question is, do you have to go get, and this is a long, we're a long way from this. The Jets still have a good team. They have a talented team. They still have Aaron Rodgers, a quarterback. Who am I to doubt whether or not this team can A, make the playoffs or B, get in and do something in the playoffs. I think they can certainly make the playoffs and I think they can make some noise with Rodgers. You're going to bet against him in January?
Packer fans stop. I would like to see it. Yes. Sure. You've made a lot of money betting against Aaron Rodgers in January.
I know. I would like to see it, but let's assume it isn't Jeff Ulbricht next year. Does the new coach want Aaron and does Aaron want the new coach? And then does it become a, well, do we really want him back or do we just dare him to retire right now? And do we hire a coach that we think is better for the team moving forward long-term and go find another quarterback, whomever that is, they're not going to be in position. Look, regardless of what you think of the Jets season, unless Rodgers gets hurt, they're not going to be in a position to draft one of the top guys. They're not. They're going to be in that no man's land.
You'd have to think right in the middle or right in the, like the, the, the low twenties where they're not going to be in position to get one of those guys that Bruce Feldman was just talking about that could be a franchise changer at the next level. They're not. So then where are you? And I, I know this is way down the road here, but you have to, you have to start thinking about that stuff. Don't you? Yep. Yep. Absolutely. Also three now, three coaches fired after losses in London.
Everyone thinks it happens all the time. It really doesn't. Can you name the other two? One of them is easy.
Go ahead. No, you I'm asking you, can you name the other two? I don't there.
I mean, I, they're probably on the top of my head. Who did urban get fired after one? No, he did not. He got fired after Columbus. Well, other things.
Yeah, go ahead. What one of them is Dennis Allen, Dennis Allen. And to be fair, joking aside, he was not fired immediately after the Columbus thing, but Dennis Allen with the Raiders, his first head coaching job fired on the plane or on the way home or after they landed, whatever the other one, the other one, you're probably not going to remember Joe Philbin.
Ah, yes. So he is now the third coach, at least by my memory, fired immediately, immediately after a loss. So are we keeping tabs on Doug Peterson? Is that what we're saying? Well, they won last week. I'm, I've seen them in person this year, week two, they didn't look good.
There's a lot going on there. I mean, the owner came out shot con and said, this is our best team time to win. And he said, well, I've never said this before. I'm saying we're a really good team and we're going to win.
Right. And Trevor Lawrence looked, looked good last week. Looked good last week. Yeah, he looked good last week. He kind of stopped me when he made Joe Flacco, you know, look like a hall of famer.
Correct. The previous couple of weeks, Trevor Lawrence, I thought looked good. They've had injuries. Evan Engram pulled a hammy week two pregame.
That was an interesting situation, was there for that. He was not on the list of inactives. Inactives have to come out 90 minutes before the game. He was going to play, but he then pulled his hammy.
And the Jaguars, from what I understand, like, Hey, Hey, Hey, Hey, can we swap a guy out? I'm like, not too late. Like you're, you're past the deadline.
You've already submitted. Yeah. Like we already know who's up and down. So they had to play without him that day. Browns beat him.
The Browns only win of the year. And the Jaguars have had to survive without him. They've had injuries on the defensive side, Tyson Campbell, their best and highest paid corner. Darnell Savage is safety. Former Packer was out for a while. The Jaguars today opened up the 21 day window for Tyson Campbell to come back in. Yeah.
They have issues as well. Who do you go to if you get rid of Doug Peterson? Press Taylor, the offensive coordinator, the offense has had plenty of issues.
Who do you go to? I think that's a pretty good bill spot. Not mid season, obviously.
Not an interim basis. Everyone thinks it's a good bill spot. It's in Florida. He owns a house in Florida. Who doesn't, by the way, own a house in Florida these days. If you're in the NFL, coaches and owners included, most notably here.
So yeah, that is a good spot. Do you want the Jacksonville roster? Do you want to go to the Jets and that? I'd rather probably go to Jacksonville.
That's just me. But you're also going into a division with CJ Strad and with Anthony Richardson, or are you going into the division with Josh Allen and Tua? Who knows what the dolphin situation is going to be like.
Yeah. I can't believe we're already at that spot where we're trying to put coaches in spots after only five weeks. And the situation in Indianapolis is interesting because look, Joe Flacco comes in and does what we've seen him do. What we saw him do last year, he comes in and he stands in the pocket. He doesn't move much. He's going to throw some picks, but he's going to throw some darts as well.
Going to put up big numbers and score touchdowns. And Anthony Richardson can't stay healthy. I love the kid and I think he's got a bright future, but it is a legitimate concern. And that is unfair to him a bit. It is, but it isn't.
A lot of it's bad luck. He hasn't played a lot of football. He hasn't played a lot of football. Like we were talking before about Dylan Gabriel, right? Bo Nix, same thing. Dylan Gabriel, if he finishes the entire season healthy for Oregon, and like here's hoping he does, will pass Bo Nix and have the most career starts for a college football quarterback. And when he does, it'll still be like three times the number of career starts Anthony Richardson has in the college and the NFL game combined.
That's great. Something like that. Like what'd he start? 13 games in college and only four or five last year. So that's at like 17. He's already banged up this year. He's played less than 20. Right. He's played less than 20.
Dylan Gabriel is going to get to 60. I mean, that's, that's bonkers. Bonkers.
Bonkers. So the amount of experience that certain guys have over others, you have to give Anthony Richardson more time. You got to keep him healthy as well to give him more time. I'm going to make a Trey Lance comparison. We've seen more wow from Trey, from Anthony Richardson than we've seen from Trey Lance when it comes to the NFL game. But Trey Lance came in very little experience in college and then he kept getting hurt.
It looks kind of similar right now with Anthony Richardson. Like I was there last year, the week the week after he got hurt. I cannot tell you how despondent the Colts fans were. This season is over, but Gardner Minshew kept him a flight.
Gardner Minshew kept him afloat and they were fine. They were a fun brand of football to watch because Shane Steichen's a heck of a play caller and they made it interesting. Didn't think it was going to get off on a Colts sidebar here, but yeah, something to keep in mind. Also one last quick NFL note, one last quick one.
One of the longest active streaks of consecutive games in the NFL is coming to an end. It's from a name that many of you have never heard of. His name is Charlie Hewlett. He is the Browns long snapper, has played 152 consecutive games, but he couldn't finish the games. He got a rib injury. He's going on IR. That's almost 10 years. 152 games. He's one of only seven NFL players to play in every game since 2015.
And he is going on IR and the Browns will have a new long snapper this week. Coming up, there are four baseball games today. We'll mention them. Also coming up, the powerless rankings, not the power rankings because they are boring and everyone does them and all they are are just things. They're clickbait for you to argue over. Okay. for you know three months in training camp um go out there and try to make some plays I'm excited to see it I think the kids fun it was fun to watch in the preseason I don't know if the preseason translates to the regular season when you got D'Amico Ryan's defense coming to town or the four-and-one Texans the one of four Patriots the games in Foxboro but hey look sign me up it makes Sunday that much more fun I think it's the right move I love me some Jacoby Brissett it wasn't working he knew what he was signing up for they were gonna take a quarterback in the top five um time to do it and hate to say it like I told you so but like I told you in August it was gonna happen in October not in September people wanted it week one it was gonna happen in October checks it is October so here we are it's exciting I think this is the most excited uh the fan base has been in five years and that's since the other guy left yeah since the other guy left and I cam Newton had that really good game in Seattle yeah and then he got amazing he played awesome they lost but he was still he had 300 yards and a ton of offense they moved the ball they scored points then he got COVID and that whole season kind of you know went south fast I forgot that season 2020 yeah of course I totally forgot that yeah it went south really fast and after that it's been you know a lot of drag Mac Jones moment yeah it was a moment it was a moment he played pretty well made the Pro Bowl you know like the fourth or fifth guy down the line and you're like okay cool and then Bill hired Matt Patricia and then it was kind of over and so this is exciting now and he's an exciting player Drake May if you watch him in college and watch a little bit of the preseason he's got a big arm he can move uh you know there's Justin Herbert Josh Allen comparisons coming into the draft those are fun but those are names to like get the fan base excited fans should be excited is he going to get his butt kicked a little bit yeah probably yeah but he's going to be able to throw it down field we're going to finally see what Jalen Polk can do and Javon Baker and some of these guys last week well we need to change that rule by the way and uh you know DeMario Douglas will be more involved I got to imagine and so it's going to look different for a couple of weeks and then maybe we'll see what this kid's got it's gonna be fun yeah and at the minimum here's what you have if he throws a touchdown and throws three picks you as a fan base can go hey but that touchdown is really cool and it's something to build on yep yeah absolutely and and it's a different stage in life of fandom to enter yeah but welcome to it and it's great buckle up buckle up I am we'll still we'll still win a Super Bowl before the Jets I have that I can say that 100 percent confidently would you say that would you say that to Rich's face yeah absolutely he knows the Jets have been losers for 50 years and they'll probably be losers for 50 more okay that's the way it goes okay and you know what Jets fans know it too yeah don't disagree did you uh did you see any of Kyle Brand's sit down with Aaron Rodgers on Sunday morning I did not okay on game day kickoff they were on bright and early because the game was in London I understand why you didn't watch it I was on the east coast so I was up and early before before our game you guys were likely asleep it was good it was good Kyle does a good job and Aaron is Aaron you know he's certainly affable in the settings and gives good answers totally um but there's one part of the interview where you know Kyle said hey you had that shot with the towel over your head your shot like making the face and a lot of Jets fans said oh that was when you became a jet that shot of you on the bench the frustration and and everything the fan the fans feel and the franchise has felt and kind of the question was like what is it like living in this now right feeling this now like this this just negativity and just everything that is the the media vacuum and circus and jets negative all that right I texted Kyle and I did so in other words here was the question man jets fans suck don't they what's it like having to play for them and we had a funny exchange I won't say what but you don't say I'm not hiding anything but that was kind of the question and Aaron gave a good answer right but hey welcome to that that is kind of what you're in now and that's you know what other teams except that we have six rings and they have one as well do you want to do your a powerless round oh let's go let's do it let me pay attention for a moment and now it's Brockman's power less rankings are no fun no fun it's Wednesday normally rich does his power rankings and then tj we heckle him and have a lot of fun kind of telling him where he got it wrong everyone's power rankings come out on Wednesday these are way more fun yeah our less rankings this is the bottom 10 no everyone wants to morning well he's on he's on bench watch he's Trevor Simeon added to the practice my goodness every week he does one of those either with a clip from a few weeks ago or he was like what the f are you doing right what are you thinking yeah come on man he has one of those in every game every single game against Miami on the opening possession where you're like what what are you said before you're looking at you never go full match job he has a pick six in like every game and what we've also said before this is what happens when you eat mayonnaise but I mean I granted that's a bit but still don't do it don't even joke about it number 29 Andrew you see the this team every week as well the Cleveland Browns I'm not gonna put you in an awkward spot no it's okay I'll answer to it but it's been really bad DeSean Watson has been really bad he probably should be benched for Jamis hopefully Nick Chubb comes back soon Amari Cooper stopped dropping the football it's been bad the Browns are 29 all right let me say this and I've said this before the Browns have a lot of talent on the roster the Browns have more talent on their roster than the other teams that you have just listed I think that's true okay and I do think they have the ability to turn it around and I think the Browns have had more good moments more flashes of right there's that team that I saw last year this season they
