We'll just go through all the Seattle calls while we cat. What's up, Giuseppe? You there, Giuseppe? All right. I am, and I'm shocked that you said my name correctly.
Thank you.
Okay. I appreciate it. I'm from Staten Island, New York. I grew up with a lot of Giuseppes. What's going on, man?
I see that. I'm a triple New Yorker myself, born in the county of New York, city of New York, state of New York.
So, yeah, there you go. What are you doing? Living in Seattle, obviously. How are you doing, David? I'm doing great.
How are you? All you know, living the dream, obviously, living in Seattle. Living the dream, hi TJ. I'm not going to acknowledge that main hole over there in the corner.
So I don't hear anybody laughing over there.
So good job, JFL. It's okay. I just wanted to throw out there and say that I really feel That um Drake May was super overrated this year. Oh, wow. He played the worst schedule ever.
I mean, you could bring up that graphic anytime you want about all the coaches that got fired that he played. I mean, he played a horrible schedule. He got into the playoffs against actual decent teams. And we saw what it looked like. He won his games.
Basically, by defense, and Mike Ravel did a fantastic coaching job. Nobody's taking that away from you. Giuseppe, let me just jump in here because Steve Young's about to join us.
So, did you see him beat the Bills on a Sunday night? Did you watch that game? He did. He was spectacular. He was spectacular beaten.
No, I get it. Henry fumbled as well. Not exactly what I would call a defensive juggernaut either. No, but they were a top defense in the NFL towards the end of the season as well. Listen, all I'll say is this, because I call back.
Let's have more of a conversation on this. You've got to play who you play in the NFL, and the Patriots did what they did, and they just got. And joining us here on the Rich Eisen Show is a guy who we saw on the field before the game with a bunch of returning Super Bowl MVPs. We'll chat about that. He also watched Roger Craig go into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
The 49ers had a nice moment about that. He is a. Hall of Famer and one of our favorites, Steve Young, back here on the program. How are you doing, Steve? Good to see you.
Sorry, I missed you last week. Man, what a buzzaw that was. Oh, good. No, I'm not. I'm no, what are you apologizing for?
I'm thrilled to have you here. What did you see watching Super Bowl 60 last night, Steve? Uh kind of like it went chalk on my mind like The only thing I thought How do I put it? The Patriots had run uh last play schedule you said they played who they played so it's fine And the AFC has not a ton of, I mean, Texans and the Broncos. I just didn't feel like they'd run into someone like the Seattle Seahawks.
And the Seahawks. Look, the way the NFL works today is that it kind of grows on you, right? Like with the team that you see in Halloween, it's kind of not the team that you see at Thanksgiving. And then even at Christmas, you're like, wow. And that's what happened with the Seahawks.
They just got better and better and better. And by the end of it, when they played the 49ers, you know, for the to for the to for the bye week to uh to get the to get the buy I I Watching them in person, I'm like, man, these guys. These guys are killers. And they're killers because they're smothering the event. It's not, they don't take huge risks, they kind of just smother you.
But then they can bring forward and put the pressure on you.
So it's like. the best of both things.
So then I thought against the Patriots, they saw a little bit against the Broncos. And then I saw him struggle against the Texans. I was like, this is. This is going to be really hard to score 17. And as they kicked fielders, I'm like, look, you guys just keep hanging around.
They're going to give a chance to come back and win.
So I think the Patriots, I mean, the. The Seahawks, in many ways, gave them a ton of opportunities to stay in a game that they were out of. But I feel like the feeling of the game was exactly what I thought it would be. Is that that's how good the Seahawks are right now? And then you wonder how good can they get?
Because they're just kind of figuring it out right now.
Well, obviously, being a quarterback-driven league, the question is: what happens with Sam Darnold from here?
Now that he's gotten, I guess to borrow a phrase, even though it's total apples and oranges in terms of what the monkey on the back for you meant and what he's been dealing with since he was the third overall pick and it's gone now to five different teams. But now he's got a ring. He's got a ring. He's got a championship. He's got the experience.
The story feels familiar. Like, it's just like it's an odyssey. It's a. It's not a straight line. And he found finally uh the the fruit of the most innovative minds in football today uh the roots you know the with coaching trees of Andy Reid and Kyle Shanahan and Sean McBay and And once you find those guys, the clouds part and the sun comes out.
And we found that in San Francisco two years ago, three years ago. Then you went to Minnesota, same kind of root of the tree again, and then obviously in the Seahawks.
Now, the Seahawks aren't. You know, they're gonna now they've got their guy, right? Because Sam. Is figuring it out too. Like, wow, how good could I be?
How good could I really? And I don't think he had to be great yesterday just because the defense was so great, but that's okay. He's been great before. And I think he's proven himself, look, I I can hang with the big boys. I can run around a little bit and get the extra yards.
I can throw it all over the field. And he settled down, you know, he made a lot of mistakes this year. And still survived it.
So, those are all scars that are gonna pay huge dividends in the future. And he has even finds his game. Sam, I mean, you could, anyone who wants to try to think that you know Sam Darnold. you know I think he's just going to continue to improve and And somebody that the Seahawks, I think, have the guy for now, next 10 years. I think they'd be fools not to.
I mean, Minnesota must, they must be dying right now. But But what do we do? Why do we What are we doing? We had a guy that won 14 games and won the locker room and you know that locker room loves Santa. He was the man.
Like, see you later, bro. You know, I just, that's gotta be hard. But Seattle's not that dumb. I mean, they're gonna, they got a guy now for 10 years. And if they can, I just feel like who's gonna beat those guys in the future?
Jeez.
Well, I mean You also won a boat race Super Bowl causing a national conversation to be had about the NFC championship game was the de facto Super Bowl and Sam Darnold in the final two games against the Rams, the playoff game and then certainly in fourth quarter and overtime of the week sixteen, they got past arguably their toughest opponent within their conference and division thanks to Sam Darnold's arm. And 100%. Rich, I think we really Stop now, right? Let's let's Let's not It's not regency bias. It's not something that you can't see coming.
Sam was drafted where he was because of his talent and who he could be. He couldn't find that measure. And you can look, he'll own it. You got to own it. But he was in some terrible places for quarterback.
And And then he got the help that he needed. every quarterback we were talking about last night in that room with joe and And Tom and we were just kind of hanging out before we went out. How much help you need to be great? And that doesn't mean that you can't do it like it's not on a lone game. And so in that way, to really find the full measure of yourself, You gotta f find the partnerships.
And when he found him, he thrived. He thrived.
So that's Sam Darnold. That's who he is. That's who he's going to be as long as he, as all of us, receive the partnerships that make a difference in the NFL. I just anyone that wants to Try to define Sam. Any other way than somebody who's ascending to be one of the top quarterbacks in the league is just wrong.
voicing their breath like why why You know, you could well all you could say is, look, Sam's got to clean up the mistakes. Yeah, he's got he's more of a he's a little of a riverboat gambler. And, you know, like, oh yeah, I think that was Patrick Mahomes in 19 and 20. Yeah. I think that's and then what did Patrick do?
He kind of like refined it and cleaned it up and had the opportunity and the support. Yeah, look what happened to him. Like, that's the only... That's it. Otherwise, Sim, I I mean, Rich, I want you to just Hang up on everyone else.
Just hang up. I don't even want to have a conversation about that. All right, Steve Young. I was going to follow up on other questions about Super Bowl 60, which I hope to be able to do later on in this conversation. But you're like, okay, so I'm sitting around with Joe Montana and Tom Brady talking about quarterbacking, what it takes to succeed, which I want to be a flyer.
On the wall in that conversation. Please.
So, what I know that the league Had a bunch of Super Bowl MVPs returning for Super Bowl 60, similar to what happened at Super Bowl 50 in San Francisco. And all right, so you're in the room waiting beforehand to go on the stage with Green Day? I mean, like, what, what, and you're having a Green Day was warming up in the tunnel.
Okay. So, yeah, they were doing their own thing, which is, I mean, that's a Bay Area icon. Right.
So, when we walked out and saw him, I mean, you think about Tom growing up right here down the street, and everyone knows in San Mateo, and Joe and I have been here for a long time. It's like, You know, and then you get Green Day out there, like it was like it was all of that, right?
So it's like, ah, Bay Area.
So that was fun to see them. But in the room, Just kept chopping it up around. the game today and um and the people who are thriving. And they could and again, we were just talking about what you need. And the support, and then how much the game is, how fun it would be to play today.
And Tom was talking about that. He's many times said to me, You know, the difference between before they changed the rules for launching your body towards defenders is before it's just changed the game, made made that made the. Feel bigger, right? It just made a Canadian league feel because defenders couldn't control the way they'd done before. And he said, that's so much fun because the flats are always open, the middle of the field is unpatrolled.
The middle field used to be a death zone, right? And people would just get yourself killed in there. And now it's unpatrolled, and no one can hit me. And I'm overstating it. But so we were just talking about.
where the game is where it was and where it was going where it's been and now where it is today. And how much fun? it would be to play today just as a quarterback especially if you learned in the more sophisticated era You're like, man. And so we just yeah, we're just chopping up around what what it used to be like, what it is today, and and in the NFL and and the people that support you and coaches, the great coaches that that are around and then really just No one's perfect, right? The coach, you know, we were talking about Bill Walsh and some of the stuff he was done.
It's like, yeah, then, you know, he plus he pissed me off about this and that.
So it's like, it's a, it's a fun conversation of, you know, Real Openness around relationships and things that you would have been. Any football fan would have loved to, it would have been like a dream to just sit there because we're talking about. All the stuff that you wonder about and think about, and it's fun. You know, we rarely get with people that understand what you've been through. you know and uh when when we're together that's four or five people alive.
that understand what what your life is like. And that's it's fun to have those moments, yeah. And look at the the the running back and two wideouts for you guys, for your quarterbacks. Look at that. Swan and Rice out out wide and Emmett, Emmett behind you.
You know what I mean? And it was, it was. It was all that. And that was funny because we were all taking pictures of all the quarterbacks. And Jerry goes, you know, you guys can't do it alone.
You guys know that, right? You know, he's. Is that what happened? Is that why you all got together in one shot? That's what we were going to get.
Well, no, no, no. The first shot, I give Tom credit for bringing us together. You know, it's like, let's get some pictures. Like, all right, cool, let's do it.
So we got the pictures, and then it was like, let's get some pictures with all the quarterbacks, all the quarterbacks got together. And then that's when Jerry's like, you know, you can't do it alone. And uh we're like, yeah, bro, that's for sure. That's the point about football that's the amazing thing about football. is that you it is there's too many guys.
It's too it's too it's insane. The idea that you can put 22 on a field and find some No. Beautiful. choreography and and and detail and dance step and and timing and And do it, like, it's kind of amazing. And so, I think that's why football is so much fun to talk about.
Because it's irrational that you got that many guys out there ramming into each other, and you can come up with something that's. That's beautiful. And that's what that's what we're kind of celebrating in many ways. Dan, connected, right? And connected.
And that's what we saw from Seattle, right? And certainly with that defense. It's got to be connected, back end, front end, side to side. And you say that it it Really? Like Drake may have nowhere to go.
He had nowhere to go, Steve. That's what happens. You know, the Seattle defense is built kind of like town like you know, it's a small it's like if you want to score, you're gonna have to put fifteen plays together and be very patient and we're gonna slow you down and make you be really efficient. But then they bring forward with pressure. And so now you're like Yeah.
I gotta be patient because there's not much happening out there. That guys aren't just roaming free. And now I'm like always ducking and diving, trying to throw for the three-yard check down. And so y it really puts it puts you in a place where you just take the air out of you. And that's what happened.
And they had nowhere to go. I mean, they had one first down in the first half. Who where does that happen? I mean, you know, that just you have to be either a real terrible tee. or playing somebody who's amazing.
And I think it was the latter, right? It was you're playing someone who's amazing. Yeah, no question about it.
So, Steve Young, a few minutes left here on the Rich Eisen Show after Super Bowl 60 in Santa Clara. What advice would you give Drake May, sir? Clearly, a guy who uses his legs. Also has a beautiful touch. Great deep throw ability and clearly has his life together.
When not playing football, what advice do you give this kid after what you just saw in Super Bowl 60, Steve. Drake is all that. I mean just He's all of it. And you I think he was hurt. Even during the first half of like, something's not right.
So that happens a lot towards the end of the season.
Something can go a little haywire. You're not over, you're not. You're not like hurt, hurt, but you're like, hey, I'm not full. I'm not. Or not myself.
And so there's part of that too, that you have to just Kind of own right, like I just wasn't 100%, uh, and then just Everything he learned this season, including the Super Bowl, he's now seen it. He's now seen. You know, the killer teams that are like, he went to Denver, like, he saw it. He went, played Seattle, like, I've seen it. And with that knowledge.
There's a sharpening of a saw that happens. Like, I'm a pretty good player. I'm young. I'm trying to figure it out. But now I know.
Now I've like uh you can't Yeah, there's no more learning. I can make mistakes and learn from those, but there's no more, I don't need to see anything else. I've seen it. I've experienced it. I've viscerally felt it.
I've been there. And now I want back. You know, and now we know what Dan Reno happens, you don't get back.
So you just gotta you know, we recognize that that doesn't always happen, but But as far as where he is as a player, as a second year guy, you couldn't be in a better place.
Now, did it go perfectly? No, but. Lick let's stand stand back. And let again hang up on anybody who wants to take a piece of Drake May right now. What are you nuts?
Kids gotta you know, he's not and talking about ascending. And you're like, uh well what about the su like they ran into a buzzsaw. Trust me. It happened. And so Drake May is one of those guys.
Now, and the thing that I think what makes him... really built for twenty twenty six and onward. is that he he can run around and spit out 70 80 yards. And that's part of his game. And I think that's why those are the guys that run the table.
And I think Drake's put himself start in the conversation to be where I said three years ago, four years ago. The next 10 years is going to be Joe Burrell, Lamar Jackson, and Patrick Mahomes. They're just going to run in a circle. And I didn't realize it was going to be just Patrick. But I think Drake can now join that.
Justin Herbert might with Mike McDaniel might join. Right? Like he now can find the sun's going to part. I mean, the cloud's going to part, the sun's going to come out for him, too.
So there's. There's four or five guys in the AFC that are gonna be kind of battling each other for the next 10 years about who goes to the Super Bowl, which is. Tough. No doubt. Before I let you go, Steve Young, the people That I saw in Santa Clara and San Francisco living their best lives are.
Anybody who roots for the Seahawks, anybody who plays for the Seahawks, and Roger Craig. He seems to be living his best life, Steve. Finally getting the call to join you and so many other 49er greats. In the hall, and I would love to give you the floor on seeing that. Steve.
Um Roger I've never seen Roger do without a smile on his face. even in pain. I mean, he's the kind of guy that just reflexively It was joyful. And so then this is the, you know, for as a player. The ultimate joy is to be recognized in that way.
And so that's like. I don't know, you just describe it as like Joyful Square? I'm not really sure how you talk about that. But that's who Roger is right now. And remember going back.
The game today, Christian McCaffrey, and back a few years ago, Marshall Falk, as the game changed and transitioned. the the running back position changed and there were pioneers for that. And Roger Craig was the pioneer. Roger Craig was the one that showed the future, hey, this is who you need to be to be great. And I think that that's you know that that's a heck of a statement for somebody that and she's in the hall of fame because he You know, you can't write the book about the NFL's arc, especially the running back position, without talking about the pioneers of the game.
And so he was that guy, a thousand, thousand receiver and runner. But as a person Rich, you just It's a people. It's like last thing I'm with the guys last night, you know, before we went out. Just the people. It's the relationships.
It's watching people thrive and excel, yet. Be kind and burdened, human and real and and And I just I love Roger for that and you know I couldn't have hugged him harder. than when I saw him yesterday at the game. Right, and and the Bill Walsh system, right? He the the he perfect, just a perfect marriage.
Well that's the thing. Like in nineteen eighty, that's when it changed. That's when Bill came in with an offense that was two generations at three generations ahead of everybody. It was a tactical advantage all the way until he handed it. to Mike Holmgen and Mike Shannon when they left town.
with it. And then they came back, and then it started to spread around the league. But Roger was the guy that was the epitome of what Bill. Like Bill was the genius, right? He's the one that's like, how do I do this?
Who are the kind of people that I need? It's like, oh, Roger Frey is one of those pieces for how this is going to work. And so it sh again, it showed everybody. This is what the future looks like. And you watch Roger Craig highlight, you're like, oh yeah, he could play today, like nothing.
And that's not true for a lot of them. Yeah, no doubt. And I I don't want to be uh too uh I guess Piggish with your time here. One last one for you, Steve. Is your two cents, your two cents.
Offered to the San Francisco 49ers front office coaching staff about what to do. to get back to the promised land. Is what?
Well the biggest challenge is right, you know, all politics are local. It's like looking your division. And you're like You know, Matthew Stafford's coming back. They're going to reload, and they're and they're already kind of made the transition. We're in that transition period, but we need.
five to ten Rookie contracted. Starts. like people who are above average in the league. in different positions. And we have the look makings for this year's draft classes, but we are maybe.
Some guys growing into it. And then we need more. And then, if we get that, we have the pillars of people that are not too old, that can still thrive. that can lead us there. Um, as long as they stay healthy, but we just have to find those because that's what Seattle's done, right?
That's what the Rams have done. And within a uh the And Puka Nukua shows up, right? We need we need Kind of all pros to show up out of the draft. kind of unexpectedly. And I think we can, then we, because we have the superstructure, we have the leadership, we have the coaching, we have the innovation, we have the ownership.
We got it, we are built for it to be in the mix. We will be in the mix, Rich. no matter what, we will be in the mix. But to take it take it away from everybody. We're going to need those rookie contracted guys to come in.
And it'll be great. And we look forward to that.
Well, Steve, thanks for the time here. Day after a great week, man. In the Bay Area. The weather was great, obviously, during the first few days when we were there, but it was awesome. San Francisco was just beautiful.
And a great time. The red carpet rolled out. Just an awesome week for the Bay Area, Steve. It was. It was beautiful weather.
I mean, people around the country are freezing their butts off, right? I feel terrible about weather that's happened all over the country. You tune in, and it reminded me when I was growing up in Connecticut. Watching the Rose Bowl, right? Watching the Rose Bowl.
Watch a rose bowl, and I'm like, and the cheerleaders, and I'm like, work. Where is that? I feel it here. I had that same feeling yesterday when you're watching the pregame and you're around the clutch, and you're like, What is this Mars? This is this place for you.
This beautiful place. It's like, yeah, that's winter, man. It's killing us right now. We're dying out here in the winter. And that was all of that.
The Bay Area thrived. We killed it this week. Killed it. It was awesome. Can confirm it.
Can confirm it. I was growing up in Staten Island, New York, Steve, watching the Rose Bowl seeing that Chamber of Commerce blue sky. And I'm like, where is that place? I've got to get there. I've got to see what it's like.
I see cheerleaders. You're like, You know what? And I was just saying to my kids, and anybody will listen. There is nothing like a football game, big-time football game, Rose Bowl. College bowl game, obviously a Super Bowl in California played outdoors.
Outdoors. Where it starts in the sunlight. And then at halftime, like a movie theater or a play, the lights go down, and now the drama's about to hit, and the second half's in darkness. There's nothing like it, Steve. Nothing.
I am so with you, Rich. I had the same you had viscerally the same reaction yesterday. And it was all of that. It was all of that. Look, the drama was defensive drama, right?
It was like, it was just smothering. Like, it was a different kind of feel. But there was still the drama of it. And then because the Seahawk didn't pull away, you're like, yeah. you know, is this another Tom Brady and the Falcon thing?
Is this like some weird thing gonna happen? But Alas and all. Steve, you're the best, man. I'll reach out to you over the next couple weeks because I'd love to know what you think of Mendoza and other guys that are up or anything you want to talk about. I love talking ball with you, and I really appreciate you doing this after the Super Bowl, buddy.
Great. I'm so happy we connected, buddy. Thanks. You too. Right back at you.
That's a three-time Super Bowl champ, Pro Football Hall of Famer, ladies and gentlemen. Steve Young here on the Rich Eisen Show. That was all. Aw awesome. Yeah, just me, Joe and Tom.
We're just talking about what what it takes to be a successful quarterback. And then, you know, Jerry Rice is like, Why are you all taking a picture together? And then Emmett and Jerry and Lynn Swan get in the picture and Then someone tried to crop out Jaywen Hurts.
Well, no, that was Steve's picture, actually. The one that I saw. That was Steve's picture, actually. Jawen Hurts was like cutting half of my gang. Try to crop him out.
I don't know. It just got cropped out.
Sometimes people don't know how to size pictures. I get it. That happens. Like right there. Like half a Hurts.
I guess he's only got one, you know. But that's that. Oh, there you go. There's a lot of stuff. That's icon.
Let's say Eli had the Eli had the game. Look at that. By the way, those are the jackets. Jackets are dope. Wear a jacket.
Those are now Super Bowl MVP jackets.
Okay. Get one of those unless you're not. No, you may not. You may not. It's not you can't, you may not.
Yeah, true that's a difference. But can't I mean you could get the there's signatures on the sleeves too? I don't know, but why does Tom Brady look cooler in his than everyone else? Come on. That's just a you thing.
That's a you thing. I think they all. I mean, that's a Joe Cool. That's his nickname is Joe Cool. Who never lost one of them things.
Yeah, well, but he doubled them up. It's funny. We were walking down in Barcadero on Saturday with Coop. Just a beautiful day. Awesome.
And Joe Montano was um Taking pictures. at some event that was right there. I mean right there on the street. And he's covered, and there's a long line of people. And Susie's like, You should go up and say hi to him.
And I'm like What do we mean? Just cut the line. Just no, not cut the line. Just jump in and say, hey, Joe. Hey, Joe.
Because you think it would be funny. Like, hey, Joe. And he's like, hey, Rich. And then we're at the end of that. And I just like, I just.
Didn't do it? I didn't come on, man. She gave me crap for that.
Well, she should have in that case. But I mean, there was music there and I'd have to jump in and I'm like, there's some people waiting online and maybe that Joe's got like one minute for one more person and I'm the idiot just jumping in. Hey, Joe. But it is Joe Montana. I mean, it's a nice guy.
It's a nice guy. But it's just be like, hey, it's me, Joe. Yeah, I know. What's up? I didn't do it.
All right. Next time.
Next time.

We're going to start seeing a lot of photographs of him riding rides. Talking about small worlds after all. Just waving on the parade. And Walker, you know, I love journeys. Yeah, man, I love the stories.
I love how people believe in themselves. We all do. This is, again, why we watch sports, why we. Follow athletes. Why we're inspired.
Because we all in our lives have doubts about what we're doing and figuring about life decisions and what would we do if faced with adversity when told no, or things happen like you're a. A stud High school athlete. To the point where your nickname is Thunder Shoes.
So Would you refer to me as Thunder Shoes from now on? No, not if we're about it. I just want to split second one in a front. Thunder shoes or vanilla wood? Yeah.
I think we all understand which one is more appropriate. Thunder shoes. Thunder shoes. Look at the logo of the show. Look at that right there.
Look at that. Shut up. We were all on that. Kenneth Walker is in Arlington High School. out there and uh From Tennessee, and he is Somebody who's runnin'?
And running and running. but not getting noticed. and then sure enough he's told he's got blood clots in his lung. Ugh, senior year. And the doctor tells him at one point, What do you do?
I play football. He says, not anymore. And they come up with some sort of a plan, medication plan. For him to overcome that. And there's only One Division one, if you will, to the old school phrase.
School that says we'll take it is it's Wake Forest University. And Apparently, his parents, you know, dad was working night shift, mom and dad couldn't drive him to an important meeting at Wake Forest.
So We were we We were wondering about Kenneth Walker's story a few years ago because we had an NIL deal. I tried to give him some free glue. Yeah. Well we'll explain why he Couldn't take that deal. I almost forgot about that.
Yeah, I remember.
Well, we looked him up because he was flashing. Yeah. Not at Wake Forest, but at any rate. Um he's a Coach, what is assistant coach in high school? Let's give him some love.
named Andrew Atkins. drove him the ten hours to Wake Forest so he could get hooked up with Wake Forest where he rolled. And after a couple years, he decides to enter the transfer portal, and unfortunately. For me. He did and wound up at Michigan State, where the day before Halloween in 2021, taking on an undefeated Michigan Wolverine team.
Ran and ran and ran. Against them. That kid right there He was Canine in green before he was canine and green last night. He ran for one hundred and ninety seven yards and five touchdowns against the Michigan Wolverines, and I had had enough of him. Oh, yeah.
The only loss Michigan suffered all year long until the Orange Bowl. Against The Georgia Bulldogs. Aiden Hutchinson tell you all about K nine. In uh East Lansing. This kid was all that.
And I tried to give him a glue deal, but the folks at Michigan State, I don't know if this was a Mel Tucker thing at the time or whatever, or the AD or whatever. The SID, like, yeah, keep moving on, Wolverine. We don't want your free stuff. That was crazy. That was ridiculous.
That happened. Got about that. Get the guy some money. That happened. But just telling this story in 2021.
Kenneth Walker's been on our show radar screen for a while. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. To the point when he was in the draft, I'm like, how was we? Why is nobody taking them?
Like wh where where where is he right now? Why is nobody taking Kenneth Walker? And then the Seattle Seahawks. John Schneider, because he's really good at his job. Very.
Uh he eventually did. Kenneth Walker by way of Wake Forest and Michigan State. Where, by the way, he won the Walter Camp and Doak Walker Awards. This running back thing is crazy how some people sometimes just keep passing up because he's 5'9. I don't know.
Finally, the 41st overall pick, second round 2022. John Schneider's like, I'll take him. Yeah, you will. Yeah, you will. And he got it done, man.
Last night Kenneth Walker what a night for him Um He Is the Super Bowl MVP? And he had 135 rush yards, 161 yards from scrimmage. That's now a record for a Seahawks player in a Super Bowl. Marshawn Lynch no longer holds those records. He had forty eight point one percent of the Seahawks' scrimmage yards.
In the Super Bowl. That's the fourth. Highest percentage by any player of their team's scrimmage yards in a Super Bowl win. You know, who's the only ones above him? Are named Marcus Allen, Larry Zonka, and Terrell Davis.
They're all in the Hall of Fame. Mm. Only Timmy Smith in Super Bowl 22 had more first-half rush yards than Kenneth Walker's 94 in Super Bowl 60. Timmy Smith, that you know, Rand. For 131 yards.
In that Washington victory, eighth running back to win. Super Bowl MVP. Last one to do it was the aforementioned Terrell Davis in 1997, and before that was Emmett Smith. This is Kenneth Walker, who was told, You've got blood clots, kid. You're not playing football anymore.
Yeah, he is. Yeah, he is. Dealing with those health struggles as a kid, Kenneth Walker. Talked about it last night after being named a Super Bowl most valuable player. The doctor told me I couldn't play no more uh I just thought, you know, football was over.
That's not what I was doing all my life. It was a shocking moment, but you know, my dad worked with me throughout that whole process. He was in the hospital with me as well and my mom.
So um just going through that it just made me grateful. For each and every day, to be able to go out there and strap up and play this game and just, you know, still be alive for real. And talking about his dad, you know, his dad was there last night.
Now, you'd be like, what do you mean? Of course his dad was here, it's the Super Bowl. His dad, apparently. Kenneth Walker Jr. Has Uh a fear of crowds.
Oh. Mm. And has been to his sons game cities But doesn't go to a game. This is the first game he's seen him play. as a professional.
Oh, wow. And he had this to say about that. It means a lot, especially my little brother and my dad. My dad, he comes out to Seattle all the time to watch games, but he never goes to the game 'cause he don't like crowds.
So this is first NFL game and you know we won a suitable host, so it means a lot to me and I know you're proud of me for real. Yeah. My buddy David Cantris's agent. I'll give you a shout out, David, said Mr. You didn't ask for it, but I'll do it.
He convinced him. Come on, says that? Oh, man. Say you gotta be there. Yeah, they were mentioning something about the Walkers on the broadcast, I think, but I couldn't.
The room was so loud, you couldn't really. Come on, man. Are you getting goosebumps right now? It's pretty awesome. I mean, dad's there.
It's pretty. You know what I'm gonna do? I'm gonna I'm going to, as I said at the top of the show, opportunity knocks on Super Sunday. It's best to open the door. He opened the door.
And he ran through it. He ran through it. He had a touchdown and he slipped on the turf. Right.
Right.
But he was. I think in the second quarter I tweeted out that if you've never seen a football game before today, you'd think Kenneth Walker III was the best football player.
Well, I think right from the jump, me and Cooper, I know, probably told you this. We knew this was going to be a problem. First play of the game, run left. Looks like he's going to be stopped for two-yard loss. He bounces, slips a tackle, bounces, gets around the corner, 10-yard, 11-yard first down.
I'm like, oh, man, we are going to have an issue all day with this dude. He had a little Levee on Bell in him during the game last night, which they pointed out how he's got burst. Watch the line open again. You covered what you see. And I saw a kid Who, with Michigan coming into town, said, It's my day today.
I was sick of him. I'm like, done, man. Where's nine coming from? I'd never heard of him before. And there's a reason why.
You're only offered by Wake Forest. Blood Clots where Doctor says you're done. Coach, thank goodness. Drives him. To get that opportunity, takes that opportunity, literally and figuratively runs with it.
Then has the opportunity at Michigan State, wins the Walter Camp and Doak Walker Awards, gets an opportunity in Seattle, gets an opportunity in Super Bowl Sixty. And good stock. Parents support him. Dad's like, all right, I'll go to the Super Bowl. And he wins the MVP.
Dad, you got to show up more often. All right. Enjoy the parade. Enjoy. Disney.
The wonderful world of Disney. It's like a Disney story. We take a break, 844-204-Rich, number to dollar. Burt Kreischer is going to be joining us at hour number three. The Rich Eisen Show, the podcast.

Correct? You do that sort of thing. There are we going here. Do you remediate potentially someone's locker room That has been celebrated in by a Long-standing hated rival winning a Super Bowl in your building. Can you work on that?
If there's enough water damage, yes.
Okay, good.
Well, apparently, there was some, you know, champagne popped and there's stuff on the floor. And I only asked for Terzo in Iowa, who joins us here on the Rich Isaac Show. Die Hard Niner fan. Terzo, are you okay today? Are we okay today?
What are you guys talking about? Did I miss some kind of sporting event or something? I don't know what's going on here. It kind of feels like everybody missed out on the Golden Girls marathon last night. No, no, no, no, no.
It was the Seahawks winning in the home of the Niners in the locker room of the Niners, celebrating winning in the home of the Niners in the locker room of the Niners. Turzo. Yeah, I think we're going to need more than just the mold mitigation. I think we need a few mitigation at this point. Oh, Jay, Jay.
Do you offer such a I'll make some phone calls.
Okay, can you know some people to the list?
Okay, 'cause I'm wondering if if Jed York's already on the phone right now saying like we gotta rip up the carpet, they have to build a whole new honestly tear the stadium down. Just start over. We might need a medicine man to come in and smudge the whole entire thing. They could send a shaman in to just extreme. That's an extreme one.
There we go. Exercise the demons because it seems to be something that we need. But shout out to Sam Donald, man. It's a hell of a story. I'm happy for him and the way he was able to turn this around.
I'm going to. As a Niner fan, take a little bit of credit since we kind of helped revitalize his career whenever he sat behind Brock Purdy.
So we'll take a little bit of credit in that. But I was pretty excited to see Roger Craig get in. I saw videos of Charles Haley and Ronnie Locke going up to his door. Yeah, he beat them to the door. That guy smiling.
He beat them to the door. He opened it before the knock. Did you see that? It was great. Yeah, I did.
I loved it, every minute of it. Yeah. Thanks. You guys did a great job last week, too. Thanks, pal.
There in San Francisco, that looked like a heck of a time. It was great. I might have to try and steal that rug from you guys. Oh, we'll get on that for you. And you're not referring to my new hair, right?
Turzo? Whoa, whoa, what is that? No, wait a minute. No, I got you now, really?
Okay, very good. Thanks for the call, John. We got to stay strong in the Ball Brotherhood. You got it, buddy. Thanks for the call.
That's Turzo Win Iowa, right here on the Rich Eisen Show. And again, San Francisco fans, man, they were obviously all everywhere as their town. And they're everywhere, even in our town. They travel. And Cooper.
He he he got there Friday night. And we're walking around town Saturday, and he's in his Pat the Patriot. You know, sweatshirt that's got the Pat to Patriot logo on the front. On one of the sides, on the back of the hood, it's facing you on the hood. It's everywhere.
And he says to me as we're walking around, he goes, Dad. I have a theory.
So I'm like, what? He goes the Niners fans are rooting for us. Because they don't want the Seahawks. to celebrate in their building. And I'm like.
That's interesting.
Okay, good theory. We then. walking down the Embarcadero. And everywhere else, run into one Niner fan after another after another, who every single time Cooper passed by in that sweatshirt said, Go Pats. Go, Pats.
And every single time, Cooper's like smiling, like, I told you, Dad, I told you. And one, one, one, um, A person was a city worker. uh working there, um, you know, making sure that the city looked great. And it did, I'm telling you. They crushed it, San Francisco crushed it.
And um Yeah. The guy stopped Cooper and said, Let me tell you something. You've got to win. You've got to win. You have to.
Do you basically like asked a 14-year-old, do you have this? You got this, or do you got this? 'Cause we don't want it. We want you to have it. He was so proud of seeing that.
Comment. Did any of those people, could they play offensive line? Is there any way that they could have? Yeah. Blocked anyone?
I don't think so. They didn't seem to have a good lateral step. They were walking straight forward. That's all I saw. We were walking past and they were all like go pats.
Yeah. Didn't happen. They couldn't block anyone.
Sorry, Niner fans. Yeah, I know. Burt Chrysler's coming up. The Rich Eisen Show Podcast. Mm-hmm.
