Did you ever think of doing that? That would have been a reach for me. Earlier on the show, CBS podcaster and the voice of the Brooklyn Nets, Ian Eagle. WBC Interim Lightweight Champion Ryan Garcia. Coming up.

Actor Lou Diamond Phillips. Plus, co-host of Peacock's brother from another, Michael Smith. And now. And You're rich. Jaisen.

All right, hour number three of the Rich Hodgson Show is on the air. In case you just missed it, Ryan Garcia. Your WCBC interim lightweight champion of the world. Said he wants, in fact, Tank Davis next. Did, in fact, confirm that he is.

Going to retire at age 26 to fight, as he says, quote unquote, hate and confusion in the world. But did say that he would allow a possibility to come out of retirement, as fighters have done. Fight those. He says, who say that he could not Beat them. And I imagine that they'd have to be of a certain quality because Del Tufo, if you say he, you know, Ryan Garcia can't beat me, I don't think he's going to come out of, you know what I mean?

Like, it's got to be a certain caliber of fighter, right?

Okay.

So I was excited for the final fight. Like, that should be your thing now: just start calling out all these great fighters. I mean, I've done enough boxing now that I could. And then he said something that an interviewer. Loves to hear.

Saying, I'm going to say something I've never said. Or I've hardly said before. Great. What is that, Ryan?

Okay, Todd. He finished his sentence saying that he would maybe at age 26 not retire. but prove that he's the greatest fighter of all time. And go. To the world of MMA.

And it to the UFC. We also told you you asked a great question.

Well, I mean, that's the other thing that we want to hear. But, you know, it's not about me here. It's about us. It's about the show. It's about spell our name right: Rich Eisen Show.

So that we're going to be talking about. And so much more. This is the Rich Eisen Show. Remember that, everybody. It's not some sports show somewhere that's on TV and somewhere else.

It's called the Rich Eisen Show. Act like you know. TV radio show. TV atrocity. That's what it was actually.

If we're being accurate, Urban Meyer has been spotted getting off a private jet. Oh, baby. WJXT Channel 4 in Duval County. Whoa. has a shot.

Four? Oh, I love it. Urban coming off a private jet, walking its way to a courtesy SUV. One must assume Not going to a Publix. Yeah.

They have great crab legs, I've heard. Not heading to the old Piggly Wiggly to pick up something to eat. Man, Urban looks casual in these photos. He's going, he's got dress pants, he's got dress shirt, he's ready to go. He looks like a man who's ready to coach in the national.

Football League and sign his name to a big fat contract that I would not be surprised if it surpasses. the one that John Gruden signed a couple of years ago. I would not be surprised at all. You think it's over one hundred million or you think it's like eight years one hundred million? Bruden got 10 for 10.

Yeah, 10 for 10. Whatever it is, it's going to be over. It's going to be nine figures, and he's going to set the record. And Shad Khan's going to show up at the next owner's Zoom and basically sit there and say, How do you like me now? Urban.

Notice that Trevor Lawrence Jaguars placement after they got a bottom of their jet there. Please, yeah, looks good. He's just not going to step on anything burlap that they just throw down. And it's got to be Shad Khan's Air Khan. Air Khan.

And Trevor's next. But at least it's not. It can't be Conair. It could be, right? Con Air.

It's not Con Air. It's Eric.

So, guys, I have a question for you guys. Rich, earlier, you were speaking about all the things that Urban Meyer could accomplish. That's correct. Having the number one pick. Picking his GM.

Yes. The state, the no taxes, everything set up for him to succeed. Owner that's not going anywhere, owner that's got business ventures outside of this, also potentially international. Same? The Jaguars, once the pandemic's over, is going to play a ton of games over in London.

Urban, sir, Sir Urban Meyer. Sir Meyer.

So he's going to get knighted too? What the hell? He's stepping out on special carpets. He wins a Super Bowl? Knight.

So, my question being: we said, if with all of that given, And he wins. Does he Go up on a Mount Westmore.

So, not to be contrarian, but I'm going to play contrarian. Let's just look at the flip side and say, giving all of that. What happens if he does not succeed? Then, how is he? Excellent question.

How is he viewed as one of the greatest college coaches of all time? And he will then show back up. On Fox, or whoever wants to hire him, he'll be a free agent, Fox and ESPN, and he'll show up and say, let's talk college football. Because guess what? Guess who's known as one of the greatest college coaches of all time, if not the greatest college coach of all time?

Pop Warner.

Somebody who did not succeed in the NFL. Bill O'Brien. Many have, wow, by the way, we'll get to him in a second. I assume he's part of your news update, Chris. But yeah, I mean.

When Nick has got the confetti all over the place and he's smiling and he's, you know. Bein' Nick Sabin, On occasion, I'm going to mention, yeah, you know, he went to Miami and the Dolphins didn't work out.

So what?

So what?

Urban will pocket a ton more money than what he's pocketing on the set from Fox. And he'll still whatever he does in Jacksonville. Chris.

Well You know, bookmark his college football career page. Will you please? I want to see that next football. fall after the Jaguars lose their first game or few games. I want to see if it changes his record in college.

It won't. On the screen, what's on the screen right here, his college resume will remain unchanged. With what happens in Jacksonville. And if he does not succeed in Jacksonville with Trevor Lawrence, and if it's a disaster, guess what? This on the screen Every single word, syllable, and number does not change.

So what?

His bank account changes and he gave it a try. He will be able to say, I tried it. Like I said last hour, when all of the Ohio State Buckeyes that he has put into. The professional ranks. of those people that are in the NFL.

Michael Thomas, let's just choose him.

Okay.

Can't guard Mike. He has gotten off to a remarkable start in his career this year, obviously. We remove. But prior to this year, history, he made history. He got off to an historic beginning to his career.

Let's say he keeps doing Marvin Harrison type things, like breaking Marvin Harrison's single season receptions record as he did last year. Let's say he keeps doing that. Let's just say he gets to go into the Pro Football Hall of Fame one day if he is so lucky. Urban sitting there. You know, is a man in his mid-60s smiling and getting a shout-out, and he'll wave to everyone in Ohio who loves him because of who he is, and that's his state, and all that.

Or Does he have an opportunity to be standing on that stage with him? The only way you could be standing on that stage with him is by getting off that plane today. Pen in hand. Hydrated from whatever Con water that's in the bubble water. In the con SUV.

This is bubbly. You know what I mean? Mr. Ben in the bubble. There you go.

That's the only way. Urban has I think it's a very good idea. I am the only plan, I'm the only man on planet Earth. To have won not one. But two.

National Championships With two different schools. We know some other people have done that, including the so-called greatest college. Coach of all time. But Nick never hoisted the Lombardy trophy, too. Nor has anybody else who's ever won national championships.

At two different institutions of higher learning. Nobody's ever gone either in between or after to the NFL. and lifted the Lombardi trophy. Nobody. Oof.

Urban could say, I did it. He can't do it if he's like Kicking it with Rob Stone. Yeah. By the way. You know what I mean?

I'm going to buy Peacock this fall. By the way, I should have said with all due respect before that. You know what I mean? Like, he and Brady Quinn can make some great television segments. But that's not going to get him to the podium in Canton.

I'm not saying he's going to get there either. Trevor Lawrence, pretty good. But to beast be to be able to say, of course. My peers are. Nick and Bill.

Of course, my peers are them. I mean, look what I've done. I mean, and, you know, he is known as one of the best coaches of our. and his generations.

So Now here comes the next part. Cannot wait, and it's a smart Smart move. Smart move, man. It's a smart move. How many coaches say, all right, I'll dip my toe in the pool and Don't have the quarterback yet.

I'll tell you, man. I love what Matt Ruhl did in his first year in Carolina. I love it. And obviously, his resume at Baylor doesn't even hold a candle to what Urban did, but the only Way that I'm comparing this as apples to apples is you're talking about a college coach who's never coached in the NFL before, coaching in the NFL before. His quarterback situation right now is Okay, who?

Who? Is it Teddy Bridgewater who you benched in week 17? Is Teddy going to get the shot next year? And guess what? He does not know.

Right now. You could have him in a private moment. Matt, who's your guy? Who do you think? I love this kid from such and such and such.

Can you get him? I don't know. The draft's going to have to shake out. Urban, who's your quarterback? Trevor Lawrence, do you know?

Oh, I know. Heard of them. Right? That's the difference. That is the difference.

The greatest photo of all time. You cannot. Say to Urban Meyer, You didn't have the quarterback. It's such a shame. That's the job you took.

Herbie knows what the hell he's doing. He just needs to. You know. Understand the losses are coming. He knows.

He knows. I don't know if the Wouses are coming. They're coming. Chris, let's put it this way: they're coming. Far more frequently.

They're filming far more frequently, but I'm not going to rule out Jacksonville making the playoffs next week. A four-year loss for Urban Meyer was an off year. A four-year loss season for Urban Meyer right now is maybe one seed. You know, I mean, he's in the running for a one seed with four losses. They have Trevor Lawrence.

They have $73 million in cap space. They have 11 draft picks. They are going to get. Very, very good, very, very fast. And they also have La Visca Chenault.

And James Robinson. And James Robinson, one of the best wide receiver and running back rookie tems in the NFL. Baby Chark, DJ Chark? Right. Sure.

Oh yeah. They're going to be contenders next year. Man, I hope fans were allowed back in that stadium is filled. I mean, that's where he's played the world's largest cocktail party. He's been in this, I mean, he's played in Jacksonville before.

Crying out loud. It's such a great hire. I can't tell you. All this business of it, he's never done it before, and he's been wherever he's been, he's created these issues to get out, wherever, whatever. It's a great hire.

He's going to be a CEO of the situation. I'm sure his coaching staff is going to be first rate. And congrats to the Jaguars. They got their man. Man.

They got him. Men. What are you talking about? Trevor. And Trevor.

Don't remind me. That's why I was throwing that out. Again, again. I just want to say this one more time. All right.

No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. I know we got to get to the news update. I just want to say this one more time, one last time, because, again, it's going to come up and. I do want to say this one last time, and I know I'm lying. Don, put the shot of Urban Meyer up.

Put the shot of Urban Meyer up. Of him coming off the plane. Pardon me. The shot of Urban Meyer coming off the plane today. That photograph does not happen if the Jets lose in Los Angeles in week 15 and lose at home to the Browns in week 16.

That photograph is like Marty McFly. In Back to the Future, it fades away. He's not getting off that plane if Trevor Lawrence isn't already in hand. Doesn't matter how much money Sean Khan is paying him. Doesn't matter, that's a beautiful plane.

Doesn't matter. Plot out. Does not matter. We can get in the DeLorean and go back to week 15. And I can fly back there, okay?

I can fly back there with my walkman, okay, and go there and change the future, and that photograph goes away. That's a fact. That is a fact, that's a hashtag fact. And you can start calling it the Trevor wormhole because I'm gonna go down it and it's gonna be tough to get me out of it because it just pisses me off. Because everybody, everybody on that Jets team, congratulations.

I'm happy for you and your pride. But that's your pride is messing with my football mind.

Okay.

And you're New Jersey privileges have been revoked. Welcome to the party, pal. No, I mean, no, that's another, that's another Bruce Willis movie. I'm mixing Back to the Future and Pulp Fiction, and you throw in the world's greatest Christmas movie. In your ears.

Do you want to just run through a couple of things? Yeah, I just want to run this stuff and I want to play some Sean Marks down. Nets CM from Suez. Go for it. No, it's all right.

We don't need the Eagles. Oh, yeah. Go ahead. Because we don't need to waste this time. The Chargers are expected to bring in Robert Salah for a second interview.

Yes. Salah will have second interviews now with the Chargers and the Jets. Why would the Jets let him out of the building? And he's going to interview with the Eagles coming up. The Lions, they've hired Brad Holmes.

He was the Rams director of college scouting. He's their new GM. Yes, yes. Multi-ear deer from him. And the Rams, because of this, they get a.

Two third-round compensatory picks because Holmes was developed in the new minority efforts that the league has been. Right. And by the way, to take somebody from the less need. Yeah, really good. Tree is a brilliant move.

Less is so good. And I'm not just saying that because I'm. you know, friends with with him and and and his outstanding wife. you know, who I've known for 20 years. Honestly, he is so good at his job.

Just look at that roster. They're the youngest roster in the league, they are prideful. Jalen Ramsey is Of course. By the way, he'll miss the first round selection this year. Is it true the Rams?

But I think so. The Rams haven't chosen first since. Since choosing Goff, Goff is the last first-round selection that they've had because they've traded away and.

So, you know, I mean, that's an excellent hire for the Lions.

Okay.

Some other coaching stuff. Alabama is close to finishing their deal for Bill O'Brien to be their offensive coordinator. Did you see about their special teams? Coach? I did not.

Yeah. Texas. Steve Sarkeesian hired away the special teams coach, Jeff Banks. You know how much the buyout is? A million dollars.

I mean, McConaughey, green light and everything, right? It's all green lights. It's green lights for Jeff Banks, man. Texas, somebody in Texas's booster program like. Ripping off a bar.

Is he a special teams coach that Sarkesian wants? Right. A million-dollar buyout for a special teams coach. What the hell is happening? Should have been a college coach.

They better punt and they better kick. Does that come with Devin Hesser? They better tackle today. Right? Some coordinator news.

So, two days after the Seahawks let Brian Schottenheimer go as their OC, the Steelers not renewing offensive coordinator Randy Fickner as his. Yeah, and this one is just, you know, we're doing it. What does that mean for Big Ben? That's Big Ben's, that's his man. That's his man.

Randy Finkner out. I don't know. The run game was a disaster this year. What an unmitigated disaster. And you could sit here and say it's personnel, but clearly.

Offensive line cage also now coming up. I mean, they are. That's a lot of changes. Fourth and one. Pokemon.

Hunt. I mean, you didn't think for a second they're going to pick up that one yard on the ground. Quarterback Sneak, Big Ben 6'5. What are we doing? All right, so let's hear from Sean Marks, Nets general manager.

He was asked today on a Zoom with reporters. If Kyrie's situation was a factor in kinda ramping things up here to trade for James Hardy. Any update on Kyrie Irving and Yeah. tangent tangential that are related to that. Did the situation surrounding Kyrie, the ambiguity or any lingering concerns there?

have any impact on the timing or urgency of making this trade? Yeah, so to answer your second part then, no, they're completely separate from one another. You know, Kyrie's absence and the personal issues that he's dealing with has nothing to do with us going after and attaining James Harden in this. Regarding Kyrie and when he'll be hopefully back and rejoining the team, part of that is going to be up for the NBA, and we're waiting for them to come out with their ruling on the health and safety protocols. Hopefully, we'll have a ruling soon.

I have talked to Kyrie, so I know he's excited about getting back on the court with his teammates as soon as possible.

Okay.

So, by the way, in case you're wondering, Sean Marks is from New Zealand. That wasn't, they haven't changed their accent in Brooklyn. Mm-hmm. And so he says he's talked to Kyrie, and Kyrie is excited to come. And did he say that?

Kyrie's return is potentially protocol-related because of the video, I guess, of him partying without the master. Which is why he's not there. That first Zoom with Kyrie is going to be lit. If he does it, I mean, I know that's true. That's right.

That's how he started this whole season. That's how it all started, didn't it? And then lastly, a baseball note: Theo Epstein is a new job, guys. He is going to be the join the commissioner's office as a consultant regarding on-field matters. All right.

All righty then. One step closer to Commissioner Epstein.

Sorry, I guess he's not coming back to the Red Sox. Deep down you're hoping that, right? I mean, of course, I would love that, but Yeah, there was I'm just calling this up and then we'll throw it a break right here. There was a great tweet I saw yesterday. I don't follow.

He's an author. It just got tweeted into my timeline. Um about the uh the Brooklyn Nets. About the, oh, geez, I shouldn't even go down this road without the thing already teeth up. Oh, I know what you're talking about.

About the three different types of Brooklyn people. Yeah. All right, we'll get this in a second. He's a skinny guy, a weird guy with a beard, I know, a guy who loves astrology. I know, it's a great tweet.

It's very funny. All right, we'll set that up for after Lou Diamond Phillips. Lou Diamond Phillips, I'm a big fan of his work. He will be joining us next on The Rich Eisen Show. What a day.

I had no idea we're now having an Ask Mike Del Tufo social media Twitter segment. The first one was: what's a good first date? Helicopter ride to Catalina for dinner, then back again if we don't stay overnight. Is this a million-dollar matchmaker? Like, that's high-rolling.

You want to tell Emmanuel what your idea great for a first date is? Helicopter ride to Catalina, dinner. I'm back. Yes. Really?

For a first date? Wait, a first date? Do you want to date?

Somebody that you've just met? Hell yeah. Really? You want to make an impression? You wouldn't be totally freaked out if somebody no, I would be like wow This is your first date?

I can't wait to see what the second date is that would be a flight to San Francisco Now it just gets creepier. I mean, listen, if that person is into all of those things, yeah. Oh my. All right, Delta, you're in. Wow, wow.

I have no conversation. No, you're so sweet. What would be a no-no for you? You want to know, like, lame? Yeah, sure.

Like, if the first date was like, yeah, so let's go get dinner and go see a movie. I'd be like, no. Really? A movie? You can do that like when you've been dating for six months.

What if the movie Super Troopers 2?

Okay.

Tell Michelle Beadle what your answer was to somebody's question of what's your perfect idea of a perfect first date. A helicopter ride from Los Angeles to Catalina for dinner and then back. Ow. For the first date? Thank you.

Yeah. Thank you, Michelle. Who is this girl? That's a lot. I don't want to die with some stranger on a first week helicopter.

I'm wondering. I'll take my one. I'll take the 500. Emmanuel Shrieky said she loved it. I mean, she's more a woman in the industry.

No, take my word. I take her word now. I'm back on board. Thanks, Michelle.

Now you could take him in the unnamed boat. See, they both. Yeah, 26 miles straight out to Catalina. We don't need to. Could you take your boat to Catalina?

I've done it. Oh. Yeah, 26 is easy. Oh. It's like a mile.

That's like a marathon. It's a marathon. It's a marathon in there or but in a boat, it's a sprint. It's a sprint. They both.

Michelle did do it if you notice. I noticed. She did. That's not so creepy, man. It's not.

It's not!

So I don't know, man. If you really, really, really, really. You guys have, like, first date. It's aggressive. It's a first date.

It's aggressive. But if you really like somebody, now I'm not saying everyone. No, but it's got to be a lot of time. No, it's not. No, no, no.

It's not, it's not. No, it's from the point of view: if you really do like somebody, you don't want to scare them off by saying, hey, here's a first date that's straight out of the bachelor, right? I mean, it's elaborate. Sean brought. Urban to the boat, that's true.

And then he's now he's the coach.

Okay.

Think about it look, he's not. I'm not totally wrong. By the way, Mike, his boat has a name. Yeah, it's called uh Kismet. I said Kismet.

I said Kismet. You're both done. Back here on the Rich Eisen Show.

Okay.

Michael Smith from Brother from Another will join us shortly, but I'm genuinely excited for this one. Is Lou Diamond Phillips on the phone, Christopher? Yes, he is. His show, Prodigal Son, on Tuesdays at 9 Eastern on Fox, season two, premiered this past week. But we have enjoyed his work in so many great TV shows and films.

Certainly back in the day, Stand and Deliver, La Bamba, and so much more. He is Lou Diamond Phillips here on The Rich Eisen Show. How are you, Lou? I am great, Rich. Thank you so much for having me.

No, thanks for coming on the show. Normally, I can look at somebody's hometown and where they were born and try and figure out what sports team they might be affiliated with or love. But you were born on a naval base in the Philippines, is that right? Blue? I was indeed, but I grew up mostly in Texas because the Cowboys were my team of choice for the longest time.

But after having four daughters, I'm afraid I've fallen off the sports dad grid.

Okay, so then let's talk about back in the day. Are we talking about like like how how far back, Cowboys, are we talking about for you? Oh my gosh. Uh with uh We're talking 70s, 80s Cowboys, you know. Stauback?

Is that what you're talking about? You're talking about Roger Stauback back in the day and those. 100%. Yes, Roger Stauback. You know, something I shared with my dad, who was also in the military.

So, yeah, every Sunday we were in front of the tube. And unfortunately, you know what? I mean, like a lot of old guys, I go there's. There's no crew like the old crew, you know? Sure, of course, you know, no doubt about that.

So, because again, I'm a lead pipe wielding professional, even though we just met.

So, I looked up much of your history and your filmography.

So, to have appeared in an episode of Dallas, even for a split second at the very part of the beginning of your career, that had to be pretty big then. Since uh that Oh, it was huge. I mean that was that was abs abs absolutely one of my first jobs. And it was uh the the moment where, you know, I thought, wow, I've I've arrived, you know, I'm I'm working with L you know, Linda Sue and on a on a nationally televised, you know, show and uh Uh it it just became um Uh A side host that I was on the right path. Certainly, yeah.

I mean, I remember that show and how you'd saw Texas Stadium in the open, you know, on the flyover. They would look into the stadium and that just always used to get me so excited. But for everybody, spoiler alert, you were not the one who shot J.R. Ewing. Correct, Lou.

That was not you. Just to be clear, that was not me.

Okay, it's not you, so we can move on.

So, then, how did you first get the gig, your breakout role with Labamba? How did that go down? Oh my goodness, that you know, I mean, that's that's kind of a lightning in a bottle legend now, but uh I I was uh working in the Texas film industry, I was doing a lot of small gigs like the one on Dallas. And they actually did a national talent search to find Richie and came to Dallas, Texas for one day. I was put on videotape and flown out to Hollywood a couple of weeks later.

Where I won the screen test, and the rest is history. I was actually literally. Still living in Texas working as a local actor when they quote unquote discovered me there.

So you kind of like hit the lottery. Is what you're saying. it's huge. I mean, uh the the the the funny the funny thing is I've taught acting uh, you know, off and on for a number of years and everybody's going, Well, how do you make it? And I said, Well, you know, a big part of it is the luck.

You just have to be in the right place at the right time, and that was the case for me. But that luck always comes with a great deal of preparation.

So I had to be ready to accept that role when the opportunity came. But you really cannot control You know, what comes down the pike toward you? You just have to be ready for the chance when you call it off the bench, you know? Sure, that's the, you know, and to use another sports phrase from Branch Ricke, the great general manager of the Brooklyn Dodger days, luck is the residue of design, is the great sports phrase.

So, obviously, so how did you prepare when you're when you know, look, look, you just got to take a chance? I mean, I got my start. In television, sending a big, thick, three-quarter-inch tape. To a headhunter, you know, and putting a first-class postage on it to make sure it got there right away and put it in the US Mail. And ESPN found me.

I mean, like, I felt like I was struck by lightning in that. But so, how did you prepare for this role for such an open, wide Uh countrywide casting. Lou?

Well, I mean, once you know, once again, it it it's it's all about to to continue this course analogy, you know, you train and you train and you train for that moment when, you know, it it it happens. I mean, what was it? Bruce Lee says, uh, you know, I'm uh I'm not afraid of the guy that can throw a thousand kicks. I'm afraid of the guy that's practiced one kick a thousand times.

So, you know, at that point, you know, in my life, I had a degree in theater. I was training film acting with Adam Rourke. I was teaching film acting. And all of that was a confluence that came together when I had the audition of a lifetime. And there it was.

So um Do you sing karaoke? Lou?

I do, I do. And sadly enough, there's plenty of video footage out there on the internet.

Okay.

And most of it is good. I'm pretty happy about that. You should be. You should be. But yeah, no, that that that happens on occasion.

So then when was the last time you sang La Bamba? When was the last time you actually did that? Lou Devil. Wow, the last time I sang La Bamba? Yeah, when was the last time?

Probably. You know what, I had a birthday party for prodigal son. Was a karaoke night. Bellamy Young, who's on the show, and Michael Sheehan and I all are within a couple of weeks of each other. And we threw a big karaoke party.

And just to appease the gas and crew, I sang La Baba. I was about to say, appease is a great word because you must be just like, really? Are you going to really ask me to say? You must be like, really? I can't walk into a Mexican restaurant with a mariachi band because I know it's going to happen within four songs.

That's true. Within Four Song.

Okay, that's kind of like name that tune. That's amazing. Lou Diamond Phillips here. And before we get to the here and now, just lingering in the past a little bit, Young Guns. I mean, you know, that is a tremendous movie with a tremendous cast.

What was it like to be with all of those fellow actors at such a height of so many different moments and careers for everybody at such a young age? What was that like?

Well, I have to say, Rich. Stepping onto that set. I had done La Bamba, I had done Stand and Deliver. Stepping on that set for me was the moment where I realized I had arrived. You know, La Bamba was a negative pickup through the studio.

It was a low budget film. Standard Deliverable was a micro low budget film. And then suddenly I'm on a set with Emilio Estevez and Keeper Sutherland and Charlie Sheen. And I thought, okay, that's it. I'm the ethnic member of the Brat Pack.

And uh and is there A safe for work story, you could tell me. A good safe for work story. From From that safer work story. Wow. You know what?

Emilio is a massive prankster. The very first day of filming, we all got these FedEx packages that were supposedly from Fox Studios that said, Hey, here's what we think of you. Thank you so much for being a part of this. Emilio had sent them, and when you opened it up, it was a cow pie.

So it was after that moment, it was on.

Okay.

The practical jokes came back and furious after that.

Okay, now here's a not safe for work story. Go for it. No, you don't got one. I'm sure. No, I'm not going to do that.

I mean, because, quite honestly, back in the day, thank goodness TMZ and camera phones didn't exist. I mean, a lot of us might have been brilliant there. Is it true that extras on that film? Were John Bon Jovi and Tom Cruise? Is that a true story?

Or is that false?

Well, number one, they weren't extras, but it is 100%. Cameos. Cameos in this film. Cameos. Okay, absolutely true.

Tom Cruise is in the first one. We heavily made him up because he'd never been shot before and he wanted to be. And that was in the first one, and in the second one. John Bon Jovi got his SAG card by getting shot on camera coming out of the pit. No kidding.

100% true.

So John Bon Jovi got his Screen Actor's Guild card by getting shot in a cameo and Young Guns. That is a true fact of pop culture. And the beauty of it is. John wanted to hang around on set for a couple of weeks to write the soundtrack. He wanted to soak up the ambiance.

He wanted to get some first hand experience. And then one night he's like, Hey, let's throw John in there and shoot him. No.

So that happened. And so Tom Cruise at this point of his career. Had never been shot on camera before, is what you're saying. No, never had. And he was a friend of Emilio's from the Outsider days, and he came to visit.

man was hanging around and said and you know for a goof said hey man let's shoot me So they made him up so he was virtually unrecognizable. But if you breeze frame uh the the uh the big finale where, you know, uh Emilio bops out of the trunk at the end, uh one of the first guys he shoots is Tom. That is unbelievable, Lou. I mean, that is absolutely remarkable. Lou Diamond Phillips here on the Rich Hazard Show.

You mentioned you have four daughters. Have you shown any of your early work to them? Have you gone back in the day with your girlfriend? The older girls have seen some of the work, but I mean. When Grace and Bella and Lily were young, they saw La Bamba and it was so dramatic.

I haven't shown Indigo, who's now 13, that film just yet.

So, yeah, that's an occupational hazard. You know, you don't want to see your dad die.

Well, no, I understand that. I hear you. Let's talk about the here and now as well before, again, we get to. Prodigal son, you were fantastic in Goliath in the episodes that you were in. That show is dynamite, man.

And I wonder what it was like on this. I mean, you've been on the set. Uh with some fellow thespians before you mentioned Edward James almost, what about Billy Bob being on screen with him? What was that like?

Billy Bob.

Well, you know, it's so funny, man. I'm at the point in my career where if an opportunity comes up and it's somebody I want to work with, I really don't even have to look at the material. It's like, oh, I'm going to do a couple of episodes with Billy Bob. I didn't even read it. You know, I said yes.

you know, same thing with twenty four and working with Kiefer and Dennis Hopper in that first season. There there are there are actors that I just want to work with and and so uh uh because part of the life experience, you know, is is uh You know, one of the perks of it all. And I gotta say, man, from an artistic standpoint, working with Billy Bob, knowing that it was going to be a brief. It was just wonderful and his whole approach to the work, it's all about the acting, it's all about the story. It was, you know, it w it was just a gift.

And I I wish I could have done more, but I was happy to have what I had. Lou Diamond Phillips here on The Rich Isand Show. Let's get to Prodigal Son. What attracted you to this show to do it? Love.

You know, what's funny is that, you know, I'm playing a police lieutenant and those are a dime a dozen in procedurals. And this role was so unique and so original and had so much going on not only in the back story, but in the relationships that he has with the other characters. that that was a very easy yes. I was extremely happy to be involved with this and the fact that it's been so well received that it's a hit. And people are loving the entire ensemble.

It's you know, and now when I look at it, it's crazy because we got Michael Sheen, we got Tom Payne, we got Bellamy Young. We have a murderer's row of an ensemble, and Catherine Zeta Jones is joining us this year. I really, really just feel incredibly fortunate.

Well, again, thanks for joining me here, Lou. I've been a big fan of yours for many, many years. And as much as this show is about sports, it's about pop culture as well. And you have been in some incredible films and television shows throughout the years. And I'd love to just keep kicking it with you whenever you want to, you know, promote anything or come back on.

I appreciate the time. I'd love to come back anytime, Rich. Thanks for having me. You bet. That's Lou Diamond Phillips at Lou D Phillips on Twitter.

Check out Prodigal Son, Tuesdays non-Eastern on Fox, right here on the Rich Isaac Show. How about that Tom Cruise had never been uh shot before and now Wouldn't you say he's been shot at and shot in more movies than not that he's been in? He gets shot at a lot now with the mission and Jack Reacher. Jack Reacher and all that stuff. I went and looked up those scenes and I screenshotted them.

And when you screenshot the picture and you look, you can tell it's Tom Cruise. Except for them, right? I had no idea. I've watched that 20 times. I had no clue it was Tom Cruise.

That was so funny. What was it like on the set there, man? Could you imagine? Oh, please. Was it guns when Cruz was on set or just young?

Young. Young. Just young. It's got to be young because top gun is gun.

So you don't want to confuse gun with the guns. Yeah, but again, we had Rob Lowe here, and he's known crew. I mean, Rob Lowe was part of that set, too. I think he went to high school with half of them, right? Yeah.

And so he said that Tom Cruise always refers to his movies with just the one word.

So Top Gun was gun. Yep, gone. Mission. All the right moves was moves when he was on the set of moves. He said the way he would talk.

Yeah, when I was on the set of moves.

So, what would it be? Would it be young? I don't know. He's on the set of guns. That's different from gun.

When I was on gun, but was this before top gun? I'm not sure. It doesn't matter. Doesn't matter. After guns, I think it was 89.

You don't want to confuse it. I'm saying it does matter if it was before now they've already used this. For eyes wide shut. Shut. Shut.

When I was on a set of eyes. Fidelio. When I was on the set of eyes, you'd be on the set of shut. Come on. When I was on the set of eyes.

Be wide. It's Fidelio true. By the way, we could play this game the rest of the show. Oh, yes. But we have to take a break.

And we have another guest.

So we cannot indulge ourselves any longer. I'm sorry. I was having fun, too.

Okay.

Certainly, before we get to the movie Cocktail, and we just, you know, we got to leave that one where it is. All right? Shoo. Michael Smith, the brother for another, when we come back. Why I'll break one right now if you need one. Do we have one anywhere? Can we get a plank for this? Don't break out the hot take plank. You can't plank.

I mean, why not? It's a two by that two by four that's right. What kind of wood is it?

Now you got me. I have no idea. Let me see it. Hold on. Standard playwood, I'm guessing.

Get ready to cancel my show at Morongo tomorrow. I have a broken hand. Oh, but the sweatshirt, we haven't taken it off in years. This would be amazing. If you could break this.

Is that a proper? I could break this. I haven't done this since I was 12.

Okay, do you want to give it a try if you think you can do it? But this is what I learned at the House of Empty Hands in Newark, New Jersey.

Okay, very good. There you go. Did it break? Hold on. Hold it down?

Would that be better? Yeah, that'd be good. Chris, you hold it on the other side. Hold on the side, Chris.

Alright, it's going. Hold it, pull it, pull it out a little bit more.

So the end is is on the box. You don't even have uh any You don't have any music from Karate Kid? If he gets it, Gloria Luck, I'll play Gloria Luck. Here we go. Forget it.

Damn it. I really thought I could do it, Rich. I really thought I could do it. That's okay, Jeff.

So love you.

Alright.

Now you know as well, Christopher, being a life partner of a lead pipe-wielding hilarious individual in Los Angeles-based comic. Jeffrey Ross is one of the most Wonderful human beings on planet Earth. He's fantastic. I love Jeff. Like just I knew his house.

His Instagram, like, Roast Me things. Oh, how great have they been? Hey, Roast Me! Oh, gosh. You got to do it.

They're fun. They're so much fun. And then you can respond yourself and help him roast. It's amazing. What a great idea.

That was brilliant. Hey, Roast Me. His Roast History show, right? That was fun too. I guess they stopped because of the pandemic.

Yeah. Yeah, you go roast me with Jeffrey Rusk. You have no idea.

Well, he has roasted you since he was on the show. No, he has been. He got us all. He is just about to be a good one. Ravens Bills, baby.

Ho ho ho ho ho. Snow. Snow. Lake effects. Lake effects.

Lake effects. We got snow. Bill's mafia. Lake effects, snow. Fire tables being broken.

Lamar. Lamar. Lamar. Mandalorian. Oh, baby.

We're showing Slake effects. We're on our radio. Back on our radio. Ravens Bills, man. Ravens Bills on NBC.

It's Alan Chris's in the Sunday Night Football Stellar Cruise finale. The NFL Divisional Weekend presented by. Intuit TurboText. Live. 7:30 Eastern is when you can watch the pregame.

After that, Saturday night wraps up. Let's go. I mean, this week. I'm pulling for Bill's mouth.

Alrighty. Here's the tweet I was telling you about. No, I thought you have it now. Yeah, the Brooklyn one. I don't know if we have it to show, but I'll just say it.

I don't know. Honestly, I'll give the gent some Jake Biddle, who's a reporter working on a book about climate migration. I don't know how it wound up on my timeline. But it got Twitter in mind. The Nets have now acquired all three types of Brooklyn guy.

A weirdly skinny guy, a guy with a huge beard, and a guy who's obsessed with astrology and conspiracy theories. That's pretty damn accurate.

So that's got as of right now, that is 54,000 likes. This guy, Jake, only has 7,000 followers.

So I love when people with super low total. And then when people do that with with less you know, less of a a total that for For a viral tweet like that, he then attached about His girlfriend's articles for the Wall Street Journal. He's like, hey, while you're here, while you're here, while everybody's paying attention to my tweet, read this. Phenomenal. Michael Smith of Brother from Another, right back here on the Rich Island show to help us take him.

And us to his show on NBC Sports on Peacock. How are you, sir? Good, man. What's going on with y'all?

Well, I mean, we're just hanging here. It was fun hanging with you and Michael Holly on the Brother from Another Peacock, first ever Peacock NFL playoff postgame show. That was fun. Let's do it again. Let's do it again.

Absolutely. That was a lot of fun. We've got a divisional playoff weekend coming up. As always. But the hardened trade, how do you think that's going to work?

How do you like to go work in Brooklyn? You know what, man? I like to see things from a positive perspective. I like to look at the glass half full. I actually think these dudes might overcorrect.

First of all. Kyrie's got to show up to work. By the way, how many blockbuster trades? Where NBA teams have created the super team that they feel is necessary to defeat. Whoever they think is defeating, LeBron in Miami or Durant.

Right, LeBron in LA, however you want to see. How many of these trades have ever started with?

Well, one of the stars that's already there better show up. You know, I mean, that's very 2021. For sure. That's some new dude stuff. Like, listen.

I think as a nation, we're grieving nobody been to last Wednesday. And if he's really Yeah, that broke. Yeah. because of where we are as a country right now, I respect it. I respect it.

I think more of us should take mental health sabbaticals. It'd be nice if he communicated his reasoning with his organization. Is that what it is, Michael? Is that really what it is that the attack on the Capitol?

Okay.

I'm just wondering.

Well, I have no idea. It's just what I've read. I have no idea. I haven't talked to Kyrie Irving. And if it is that, I'd love to hear him say that not just to the team, but to everybody else.

Sure. I'd love to hear him express that messaging. Because we're at a time where we're really talking about mental health and trauma in a more enlightened and sophisticated way than maybe we ever have, but we still have a long way to go. And I think collectively, when you combine the pandemic with our political strife. I don't know that we truly understand Um you know, the damage that's being done to us psychologically.

And I'm not I'm not I'm no philosopher, don't get me wrong, but I just think it's a healthy conversation to have. And we saw a lot of that coming out of the bubble with people like Paul George. It's a healthy conversation to have about mental health right now. And if Kyrie needs a break for whatever reason, I mean, we do load maintenance for people's knees and ankles and back and do low need low maintenance for your brain too.

Well, I was saying that before, Michael, is that in our day and age, for sure, that if an athlete if he or she have a crutch Like a physical crutch, or have a cast, we can understand. But when it's a soft tissue injury, we don't see anything like that or The muscle between our temples, that injury, we do not, as fans, sit here and say, Anything but when the hell are you coming back? Yeah, we don't we don't treat brain health as a society. No, we don't. Like it's like toughen it up, Kyrie.

But but but but but it would be beyond helpful. Certainly since we have established that this is Writ large the general sports population's view of something like this about when you coming back, you know, what do you mean two to four weeks? What the hell? You know, with what's going on between your temples, figure it out that in order to combat that. He's got to talk about it if this is what's going on.

Yeah. No, I mean he ha he has our attention, uh kinda like, you know, the guy that you mentioned that has 5,000 followers but 54,000 likes. Yes. Uh he has everybody's attention. Uh he always has everybody's attention.

And if he were to speak to somebody. you know the media Post something on Instagram, something, I think it could do a lot of good. To bring to the forefront his reasonings for stepping aside. I mean, remember, this is a guy who did not want to play in the bubble because he thought it would distract. From The racial justice conversation and social justice conversation that was being had at a higher level than ever.

uh you know back in the summer So, having said all that, and it'd be nice if he at minimum communicated to Steve Nash and his teammates in the organization and Sean Marks, having said all that. Um If he shows up, I actually think they're going to overcorrect. Because And maybe this is wishful thinking. They've heard the jokes, they've seen the memes, they've seen the 2K simulations, they've seen all this stuff. about them fighting over who's gonna take the last shot.

I think it may at the early stages They might be too unselfish because it's not like Hardin. is not a gifted pastor and facilitator. You know, he has been, he can be what he wants to be. Kyrie Irving can facilitate. And we know the offense certainly can run through Kevin Durant, he can get everybody involved.

They like each other enough. And I think they want this to work enough to where I think at the beginning the issue is not going to be who's taking the last shot or who's taking the most shots. It might be actually overpassing and being too unselfish. The question for me is just really how are they going to handle it when things get tough? Because inevitably, Super teams always run into some kind of adversity, some kind of trouble.

And that's when you see what they're really made of inside. I would pay a member of the media on the Kyrie's first Zoom, if he does in fact have it, to say to him, Now that you've got Harden, how does he compare with Durant or LeBron in terms of the people you've played with who can make a last shot? What about control it now? I would pay. I would pay.

I would pay. I'm going to put a question on everybody's mind, so yeah. Do you know what I mean? I would pay. You need to know this.

And how many and or how many coaches do you have now? That's another one. I really want to kind of unpack things. And if you are playing so well, should Michael Holly and Michael Smith's fantasy basketball team, that's DFL in the Rich Eisen Show League, should you be acquired by them? How about that?

Is a question. Is that a good question or a bad question? Wait a second. Mm. Oh my God.

Wait a minute. Franchise mode, DFL. Frank, Michael. I hate to tell you. Wait a minute.

Yeah. So I. See, I gotta talk to my guy. In my assistant. He was supposed to be on top of that.

It's funny, Michael, because Holly. I threw him under the bus or anything like that. That's okay, because Holly threw you under the bus when I hit him on the same exact subject last week at this very time. But did he fix it? Though no, no, you're still wild.

Just keep doing what you guys are doing. You guys are good. Because you don't keep a TJ out of the basement. And why didn't you throw me under the bus? I mean, he just like, did he make any kind of moves or whatever?

I mean, I just, like, I'm a hands-off kind of owner. I'm a hands-off kind of older. I hire good people. I let them make decisions. Delegate.

You delegate. Michael, and here's the thing, and I know you've got to go, so do we too. I don't want me to stir up dissension before the latest episode of Brother from Another, but have a good show. Yeah, this might come up. Appreciate y'all.

Take care. You got it. That's Michael Smith. You and Michael Holly. NBA experts don't let the fantasy stuff undercut them.

Along with. Chris Sims to discuss the Upcoming divisional playoff weekend, including, of course, Bills Ravens. That's on NBC. That's how NBC sports on Peacock. Rolls.

I want to thank Ion Eagle, Ryan Garcia, Lou Diamond Phillips. And Michael Smith, our friend Josh Charles, Die Hard Ravens fan, will be on Friday's edition of the Rich Isen Show and so much more on Friday. We'll see you on the radio on Peacock. Stay right there. We'll back in a second.

This is the Rich Eisen Show.
