Earlier on the show. Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray. Still to come. NFL network analyst Maurice Jones Drew. WWE Superstar Drew McIntyre.
Pro Football Hall of Fame finalist Charles Woodson. Plus three-time Pro Bowl quarterback Carson Palmer. And now. Yeah. Mr.
Rich Eisen. All right, hour number two of the Rich Eisen Show is on the air, and we've got ourselves four guests over the next two hours, but still more than enough time to not only give you my top 10 storylines for Super Bowl 55, ones that you will be hearing about all week long, I'm going to front-load it for you. And still more than enough time to take your phone calls at 844-204-Rich being the number to dial. Maurice Jones Drew, my colleague from NFL Network and the local Rams radio color analyst, will be joining us in the matter of moments. Jared Goff out, Matthew Stafford in, two first-round picks, and a third-round pick out.
Matthew Stafford in. That's the way it's rolling for the Los Angeles Rams in a trade that just. Took everything by storm over the weekend. He's going to be calling in in a matter of moments. Drew McIntyre, the WWE superstar, WWE champion.
Fresh off of dusting off Goldberg last night. He will be joining us on this hour as well. Charles Woodson, Hall of Famer to be. He's going to hear his name this weekend for first ballot in Shreinman in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. And Carson Palmer.
Who knows a thing or two about winning playoff games with Bruce Arians, who said that Brady was perfect. for the offense. He said that to us. Over the spring. when Brady signed, said this is going to work out.
Just fine, just great. Look at us now in Super Bowl 55 week with all of that. At Rich Eisen Show, Chris Brockman, Mike Del Tufo in their spots. TJ Jefferson, who monitors our social media at Rich Eisen Show for both Twitter and Instagram, has settled into his seat. What do you have over there, Christopher, for our poll question right now?
All right, so it's the anniversary of the Malcolm Butler pick in Super Bowl 49 to beat the Seahawks.
So looking back at just the Tom Brady Super Bowl era, so since 2001. What's the most jaw-dropping play in Super Bowl history? The butler pick. David Tyree's helmet catch from Super Bowl 42. James Harrison's pick six right before the half in Super Bowl 43 or the Philly special.
From Super Bowl 52. What say you, Rich? Oh Jaw dropping. Jaw dropping.
Okay. Philly Special When you're going fake field goal. Right. Correct? That where instead of going field goal, you're going for it.
Instead of going field goal, you go for it and you uncork that baby. And you throw it to your campus. Against New England. Against the Pats right before the half. You're going for a field goal at the very least.
Instead, you throw pick six, my buddy Kurt Warner, and then a guy picks it off and just keeps running. And the number of people that could tackle him, and then the half is over. Unbelievable. You lose track of it. 14-point swing.
Tyree Catches one off his helmet after You think Eli's in the grasp? And you keep saying that Patriot defenders are in the grasp of uh offensive linemen. You even brought up to Eli Manning this year that you thought that linemen were holding to allow him to throw on a Tyree, and he laughed, saying holding he goes They didn't block anybody. Was his response. By the way, best response I've ever heard to you saying that there was holding not called on that play.
Usually Sean O'Hara just shows me his ring. I know, he shows you his ring. And Eli's like, what are you talking about? Everyone, they didn't block anybody. Funny.
But I've never seen anything switch like Malcolm Butler. I've never seen anything like that in my entire life. Malcolm Butler leads 38%. Yeah, man, it's the anniversary of it. We'll delve into it a little bit more, but my buddy from the NFL Media Group is here.
Maurice Jones Drew, former Raider, former Jaguar, and of course, always a Bruin, now currently calling Rams games on the radio locally here in Los Angeles and part of my team at NFL Network. How are you, MJD? I'm doing well, Rich.
Sorry that I'm a little late, man. I ran to the restroom and took a little bit longer than I thought.
Okay. All right. Look, Maurice, you're strict about that. Maurice, Maurice, Maurice, you're supposed to say you were getting an IV. That's the way it works.
I'm here. I'm on this whole thing of telling the truth, you know.
So I figure I know the people, they want to know why I'm on time.
Okay. You know, it. All right, Maurice Jones Drew here after getting an IV on the Rich Eisen Show. Let's get into it. Why was Jared Goff traded, Maurice?
Why was he traded? It's it's so funny, Rich.
So, um It's not funny, but like my phone's been blowing up constantly because obviously, with the Rams, you talked about calling the games there. The issue is this. The last couple of years, Jared's play hasn't been up to par. And You know, I the Rams are in a win-now mode. They've been in a win-now mode for a long time, and as you saw with Todd Gurley, uh when he wasn't playing, they they, you know They moved on from them.
That's kind of been their forte. If you're not putting up the numbers, they don't see the production, or if they can't project your production. being high, they try to move on. Brandon Cooks he had uh concussion issues. he was kind of coming close to the end there, so they removed they moved on from him.
And really what it came down to was that they felt like they had a team this year that probably could have made a run at the Super Bowl. Um, and Jared's plague just wasn't enough to par. Um we heard the comments obviously from Sean McBay, who's had those comments Since the Miami game, the Miami Dolphins game, where Darrett had four turnovers. You started to hear the rumblings in in some of the press conferences. Um And and and you know I don't think Jerry gets enough credit.
It may not look the part like the Mahomes and the Aaron Rodgers of the world, but he's a winner. He's won. Uh, he's one here in LA? He's won the big games. He's won AMC Championship games.
I think Peter Schrager, another one of our colleagues, talked about. He's beat Drew Brees in the Dome, and he's beaten Russell Wilson in Seattle multiple times.
So he has that winning pedigree. I just think that uh The Rams feel like there's much more the offense can be a little bit more with a different quarterback. They went out and got a guy who they feel has a better arm talent. And, you know, all we can do is wait to see. uh what Stafford has for them.
So before we get to the Stafford part of it, so so you're saying The Tua first career start was a game where he didn't perform very well, but the number of turnovers and special teams touchdowns that the Dolphins were able to put on the board. Just boat race the Rams right out of South Florida. That was where things. Took a turn, or were they already turning before all that between McVeigh and Goff?
Well, I think twenty nineteen kind of was like the start of it. Right? Not playing well in Chicago. And there were a couple games where he just didn't play well. And it was kind of like.
the year before, he went on that Mackless run where he was rolling in the playoffs you'd throw this you'd beat the Saints, throwing the ball. And so everyone there was high expectation. 2019, the offensive line gets hurt. Todd's not the same. There's a lot of pressure on Jared to compete and win games.
He doesn't do it. uh they missed the playoffs. This year was kind of a a Okay, we're going to bounce back, see what's going on. And then you just saw there were some games where he was just so inconsistent. There were games where he played lights out.
Then there were games where, you know, he didn't play well. And I think that Dolphins game was kind of the start of when you started to hear the stuff come out, right, from the organization. Normally you don't hear those things, but I think a lot of it was like We don't know what else to do. There are some times in those situations where I just think, you know, the football relationship kind of was just ruined in that point. I wouldn't say I can't say ruined, it just started not to work for either side.
And so the Rams are since I've been calling their games and been working with them, they have moved on from top talented guys They don't have a problem doing it. And, you know, this has kind of been their track record. Maurice Jones, Drew, here on the Rich Eisen Show.
So, how does Stafford fit in a better way? than Goff. How does he how is he the upgrade That Les Need was hearing about and seeing as necessary. And then went ahead and mortgaged two more first-round picks out of the future. They're going to go seven years without a first-round pick unless it gets replenished.
Well, I'll tell you this much, Rich. They don't believe in, you know, um So for example, the Jalen Ramsey trade, they knew for those two years there wasn't a guy that was going to come out and be like Jalen Ramsey for him. And we've seen Jalen Ramsey lock it down, right? And so I think they believe, again, that there's no quarterback that's going to come out in this draft and be a Matthew Stafford. And so if you're I would if that's how you see it and that's what you think, then you make you pull the trigger and you make that trade happen.
Matthew Stafford, and we all know this, is one of the better arm talents in the game. He throws it from all different angles, very similar to Patrick Mahomes and Aaron Rodgers. Um Tyler Murray and Russell Wilson to get throw the ball from different platforms. And I think Bucky Brooks has talked about it. A lot of guys have talked about it, but I believe when you see Matt LaFleur's offense flourish with Aaron Rodgers and what it looks like, you're kind of like, oh man, Um And so, you know, Sean McVay wants to know if Matthew Stafford can be that guy for them to help them get over the hump.
Also, we have to know this. Aaron Donald's in his prime and Jalen Ramsey is in their prime. And you don't want to waste those guys who will probably be first ballot Hall of Famers, Aaron Donald for sure. you don't want to waste their prime, right? You want to try to get to as many Super Bowls as possible Um and the Rams they're very confident that they can get to the Super Bowl.
They feel like they have a team. That is built and ready to go. Um and so they they wanted they wanted to make a push at it. And as a player, you have to respect that. I know for Jared, it doesn't feel good to be like cast away and those type of things, but you're in a situation where a team wants you and you'll be able to go and play for another team.
And guys on the Rams, you know that when you play for the Los Angeles Rams, they're trying to win now all the time. And that's very similar to how the Pittsburgh Steelers have been. That's very similar to how uh a lot of teams that have been perennial winners have been. And so the Rams want to be in that category. In the few minutes I have left with you, Maurice Jones, Drew, break down Super Bowl 55 for me.
Who wins it and how does that happen? What to look for?
So on and so forth. Rich, I've said this before, and I'll say it again. Unless you can score 40 points in a game, you're not going to beat the Kansas Chiefs. They're 15 and 1. The one loss that they've had is when the Raiders beat them, the Las Vegas Raiders, they beat them.
Excuse me, the Lost Oakland Raiders, because they still got some stuff in Oakland there. The Lost Oakland Raiders. Uh They scored 40 points and they played lights out that game. And so when you look at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, as good as they are, when you watch that NFC Championship game, they've dropped them. They dropped a lot of passes.
Tom didn't have the best second half. Their defense created turnovers. But I just believe that the Chiefs showed in the AFC Championship game that no matter who they're going against. because the Buffalo Bills are one of the hottest teams coming out. uh are coming into that game.
They just boat raced them. And so when they get on when they start playing the way they played the last couple of weeks, the the Chiefs are a tough team to beat. And so for me, if you can't score forty points, Yeah, it's not gonna be close. Yeah, but Brady can, right? Brady can definitely score 40 points in this game.
Why not? I don't know because I saw Brady in the second half throw three turnovers, three picks. that becomes a problem. Because if you throw if you throw the ball over against the Chiefs, It is gonna be uh different and I'm gonna go w back and watch the um the Bucks, Chiefs game, but from my memory, I want to believe, like, in the third quarter, the Chiefs were up by, like, 14. It was like the end of the third quarter, they were up by 14.
They kind of. Called off the dogs a little bit, and that's how the Bucks came back. Um I think it's going to be a great Super Bowl, but I just think the Chiefs have too much. offense for the for the Buccaneers?
Well, I mean, the last three quarters of their week twelve game, they played them pretty much straight up, you know?
So and they they only they only gave up twenty seven. They just scored twenty four and a lot of them came late. That's what I'm saying. Like those late touchdowns, I don't think you're going to get those. I I I I truly believe the Chiefs kinda went into like, let's just get out of this game.
We're up by 14. Let's get out of this game and run the ball and try to get out. And that's when the defense locked down. Tom figured it out. and kinda made it go, but I I think if the Chiefs were still throwing the ball, I mean, Tyree Hill had 190 yards in the first quarter.
So let me just wrap it up this way then. Do you think if the Rams had Matthew Stafford, this. In January, they'd still be playing right now? What do you think? I think they would.
I think if, to be honest with you, I think if Jared Goff was completely healthy and Aaron Donald was completely healthy, they would have beat the Packers. And then they would have probably beat the Buccaneers if they did it early in the season with with the way their defense and the way they're playing. I believe, again, that I'm a Ramley guy, but if Cooper Cup is out there, Aaron Donald's 100%. And even with a nine-finger Jared Goff, they should have ran the package. Nine-finger Jared Goff.
I've never heard of that phrase before, but So then why does golf have to go? Maurice. I was once told this in the National Football League when I played. Like, some people just don't get along. Like, some people's personalities just don't match up.
And I think. it's I think this is more of a football personality because Jared is an awesome dude. Everyone loves him from what I hear. And I actually worked out. I actually rehabbed with Jared when he was a freshman at Cal, so I know Jared's a good guy.
I just think that his football personality is not what they're looking for. Right, they may want a more of a fiery guy. A guy that's gonna, you know bark back and and do some different things. Jared's Real even kill. He doesn't like water off of ducks.
In fact, that may be the issue. But also you have to remember this too, Rich. If I'm paying you $100 million, I need production. Because if you're not producing at that level, I can't convey that to the team that you should be the guy, if that makes sense. Maurice, thanks for the time.
Appreciate it. I'll see you soon, hopefully.
Alright. I got you. That's Maurice Jones, Drew, at MJD. Right here on the Rich Isen Show, he knows.
So he and McVay just. Their personalities didn't mesh. Worn out the welcome. I guess McVay just wants somebody to chest bump him back or something like that. No, look, man, number of times that Goff would throw that pick and then just would have that look.
He sort of had that Eli face, right? But Eli had two rings, didn't he? Sure did. Eli's got a Hall of Fame resume. I didn't get a sure data out of you right there.
Well look, if if Eli's going to the Hall of Fame, but Matthew Stafford is also going to the Hall of Fame. Is he? Really? What's the difference between him and Philip Rivers? Their stats are all going to be the same, eh?
All right. Well, I guess that's what the next two years could be about. Yeah. 844-204-Rich, number to dial, WWE champion, WWE superstar, Drew McIntyre. Here on Peacock and Moor, when we come back, and more of your phone calls, 844-204-RICH.

Right. I mean I weighed it more. Yeah, I think then he hyped up the box. His line, Irve's line was, he goes that memorable moment. are built on the word never.
Oh, I'm like, wow, that's a good one. It's like Miracle on Ice. Never. Michael on ice. Never before has it like.
I love that. Michael Irvin's on tomorrow's edition of The Rich Isaac Show. We'll talk about that with him. 844-204-Rich is the number to dial. Are you ready for this?

We have a bona fide WWE superstar. Getting set to join us here on the Rich Eisen Show on Peacock, which is becoming the exclusive streaming home of WWE in the East United States. Content starts rolling out March 18th. The first pay-per-view event is Fastlane on March 12th. This man defeated Goldberg last night to retain the championship, and he is part of his next big event, the Shack Bowl at the Super Bowl.
He's going to get out there and play some football on Team Tampa Bay with Nellie Offset, Tim Thibault, and Winnie Harlow. How about that? That's how shock's gonna roll. Coming up on Super Sunday.
So, Anthony Anderson's part of that team, too. Look at that against Team Kansas City, Diplo, Ezekiel Elliott, Olivia Culpo, Cuevo. Steve O and The Miz. I stopped listening after Olivia Cole.
Okay, sorry about that. My bad. He is none other than WWE champion, WWE superstar, Drew McIntyre, here on The Rich Eisen Show. How are you, Drew? Oh, fantastic, lads.
Thank you for having me. No, thank you for coming on this show.
So you dusted off Goldberg last night, huh? Uh certainly did. I mean, it was fast, it was frantic, it was hard hit, and they made the f Tackles as hard as he did in his Atlanta Falcon days. I took about three tackles to the stomach. My ribs are messed up today, but I'm still WWE champion.
That's right. Goldberg did have a cup of coffee with the Atlanta Falcons back in the day. He did play some football, Goldberg. I did. Did indeed.
I spoke to some of his former teammates, a few guys that used to play against him, and they described him exactly how he is. Still to this day, a very intense individual. I mean, I guess, what is it like for you, as you know, and I want to get into your ascension into the person you are today to look in the ring and that entrance last night? My gosh, there was more fireworks there than maybe we're going to see in the Super Bowl coming up on Sunday. But there's Goldberg standing in the ring waiting for you.
What is that like for you? True. Because that is surreal. Like, I used to watch Goldberg wrestle when I was about 13, 14 years old. My brother and I, biggest wrestling fans in the world.
And I never thought one day twenty plus years later. I mean I thought I'd be WWE champion one day. That was my dream. I never thought I'd be WWE champion standing across the ring from Bill Goldberg in 2021. absolute fantasy situation for a lifelong wrestling fan like myself.
But as a professional, you know, I had to be up. One of my farmer heroes as a kid, so I didn't feel so good about that, but I'm still WWE champion, so I feel really good about that. Oh, I mean, my gosh, Drew. I mean, when Mahomes looks across the sideline and sees Brady on Sunday, you know, he might have a similar moment, but he's going to have to take care of Brady like you took care of Goldberg. That's a fact.
You know what I mean? That's what happens in competition. That's right. The current generation has got to prove their worth and show. you know, that they can top the the prior generation.
That's what it's all about, is showing You know, I belong at the top and not only could I hang with the previous generation, but, you know, I could beat their butt for getting the ring of Drew McIntyre.
So before the WWE, you wrestled in the XSBW. Do you want to describe what that is? For those who might not know, Dr. Guinness. Oh, you've really done your research.
The XSDW was my backyard wrestling federation when I was a kid. A lot of the listeners out there maybe wrestled with their friends in the backyard and had their own little wrestling leagues. I was one of them. My buddies and I would get together, put on our little wrestling matches, film it in a camcorder. We were the greatest wrestlers in the world.
I promised myself that food would never see the light of day.
Somehow, WWE got their hands on it and they released it to the world. What do you mean they got their so the camcorder? Footage of you wrestling in the extreme Scottish Backyard Wrestling. That's the league, correct? That if I'm not mistaken.
Yeah, that's correct. They got. I mean, how'd they get their hands on this tape? True. How'd that happen?
Oh, my good friend in Scotland was the holder of all that footage and uh he was working directly with them to get, you know, old pictures, old video clips of me for a documentary. Little did I know. He's going to release everything to them.
So, how did you get your start? How did that happen? How do you go from your backyard in Scotland to what we're seeing today? True. Oh.
It was quite the journey. When I wanted to get to WWE, I was from Air Scotland. A country of five million people, WWE is a faraway American thing that nobody really from the UK had ever done, nobody from Scotland had been signed to WWE ever. And I was going to do whatever it took to make my dream come true. I talked about it my whole life, I obsessed about it my whole life.
I asked my mother to let me go to the only wrestling school in the UK. which was a twelve hour drive. Where I grew up, she said no, age 12, no, age 13, age 14, and finally age 15. She said, okay, if you're keeping constant contact, I talk to the promoter. You go with your buddy and you can start the dream.
I used to travel 24-hour 24-hour round trip just to learn how to wrestle. There was nothing in Scotland at the time. That's what I did for the next year, as often as I could go, as often as I could afford. I would travel down 24 hours to that wrestling school. Fly my craft, started wrestling in the independence, started the modern day Scottish wrestling scene, and the whole time staying at school.
I went right through school all the way to college, got my degree in criminology. And that very year, my last year of university, I got signed by WWE 21 years old, the first ever Scotsman signed.
So, if you didn't get that s signature by the WWE, what were you going to do with your criminology degree? Drew McIntyre? As far as I'm concerned, there's no plan B. I've always been interested in that area, and I figured, man, wrestling spill is some really weird people, so I'll be able to profile them all and figure them all out if I get a degree in criminology.
So it's all part of the wrestling path.
So there was no plan so I'm glad plan A is unfolding, still to this day, Drew. I'm pleased to hear that.
So what's the craziest thing you did either in your backyard or whatever, that you wouldn't be able to attempt even now? Um as a wrestler. What's the craziest thing you've done? Yeah, I mean I used to jump off some high points. Our wrestling ring, just to clarify, was an old nasty ass mattress on the grass.
And in Scotland the weather's not good, so usually it was raining, it was muddy, there was this nasty mattress. Wait on hygiene to think back on it. I used to jump off of very high places and land on that very thin mattress. If I tried to do that today, I would not get back up if I took a 16, 17-foot fall onto a mattress. I probably would begin with taking out on the stretch.
WWE champion, WWE superstar Drew McIntyre here on The Rich Eisen Show.
Okay, so you're going to participate in the Shack Bowl. Coming up, it's a live three-hour pregame broadcast special at 3 Eastern on Super Sunday. And the crazy thing is that there's no mattress here. There's no dusty, or what do you call it, nasty, dusty old mattress here. He's actually building a tent.
Yeah. You're going to be playing football in it, Drew. How much football, American football, have you played, Drew McIntyre? Oh, I've played a whole bunch of zeros. I played a lot of football, like soccer.
You kick it with your feet, being from Europe. But no, I've never played. American football before. I've become a big fan of it over the past couple of years. Very excited to see Tampa Bay finally get some form and be in the Super Bowl.
I've grown up in Tampa, it's my American hometown for 13 years. I'm excited about that. The way I figure it, you know, I'm representing Team Tampa and the Miz WE Superstars on Team Kansas City. I'm sure he's played it his whole life.
So, no matter what sport it is, even if I've never tried it, I'm certainly better than the Miz.
Okay, so so let's just let's walk through it here. Do you want to I guess since you say you've played zero football, would you prefer to play defense or offense? Which one do you think you can bring your best ability to? Drew, let's walk through his. I feel like I could do a little bit of both.
If I was on the defense, I'd get the opportunity to run down some people. If I'm on the offense, I get the opportunity to run down some people. I feel like I'll be most effectively used the more damage I can do to everyone, being six foot five, 270 pounds. Whenever I can crush some people, I'm having a good day.
Okay, so let's just say, Drew, Drew McIntyre, you're lined up across from the Miz. And you know you're getting the football. What happens next? I mean, I'm just going to run him down anyway. Even if he's not directly in front of me and they're throwing me the football, I'll go out of my way and find him there, run his ass down, and then I'll score a touchdown.
And do you have a celebration all booked? You know, that's part of the NFL experience: you score and then you celebrate. Do you have something like that? already lined up, Drew. Oh, yeah.
Oh yeah, yeah. I've got a celebration I used to use in my soccer days when I was a kid whenever I would score a goal. You know, part of my wrestling matches, whenever I get knocked down towards the end, I do a nip up, you know, the move when you line your back and jump to your feet. And my size is visually impressive.
So I've got a little routine of forward rolls, into nickups, and whatnot. I used to do it when I was a kid.
So it's been about 20 years, but I'm still going to break it out. There you go. I mean, just it's like riding a bike, I'm sure. Celebrating a score is like riding a bike.
So were you six feet? A lot of people watching. I was about to say, that's right.
So were you like, when did you become 6'5? Were you a soccer player? I mean, pardon me, a football player at 6'5? Were you that tall? Yeah, I was.
I played it my entire life, and everyone always recommended you try rugby. You're literally twice the size of everyone, and you keep getting sent off at Red Cardi because. I was accidentally, I'm doing air quotations, challenging people too hard. I was legitimately twice the size of everybody on the pitch. My very last game.
In football, I started dressing to this point. I got a yellow card and then I probably should have been sent off red carded for the challenge for the yellow card, but for the second one, someone tried to run around me. He ran into my shoulder. This wasn't my fault. Knocked himself unconscious.
The referee sent me off. I took off my shirt, threw it at the referee, tried to fight the referee, and both managers have to drag me off the pitch. And that was the last game I played. It was 15 years old.
So I figured maybe I should start pursuing this, pursuing this wrestling thing a little harder. Yeah, so I'm assuming you got red carded. Drew? Brian? You got red cards?
Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's why I tried to fight the ref. I was a little upset. And yeah, yeah, let's see, I took off my shirt and threw it at him. That's a that's a you know, traditional wrestling move.
When you're gonna fight, you take off the shirt. Before you start fighting someone, and then I lunch for the fully grown man referee 15 years both managers and chief players to drag me off the pitch. And here we thought Zidane had the most dramatic send-off in the history of the sport.
Now I'm learning about the way Drew McIntyre walked away from his football, our soccer. TJ Jefferson, do you have a question for WWE superstar, WWE champion Drew McIntyre? Do you have one, TJ? I have many. If I'm going to give him one, I want to say, first of all, congrats to you, Drew, as someone who's followed your career for a while.
It's great to see you. Get to the point where you're at now. That's a it's a pretty awesome story. Um, you know, you and I have a friend in common, John Pirmarini, who used to be a writer for WWE. And yeah, and he told me uh a little tidbit, and I want to see if you remember this.
Before the Chosen One gimmick, they had another gimmick. uh laid out for you. Do you remember what that was?
Something to do with being a freaking male model. That's what he said. He said you were going to be a male model, and the ramp was going to be your runway. How did you feel about that? I mean, the chosen one was obviously the better move, but.
Yeah, I remember because I got told about it. I was about 260 at the time. We've got this great idea for you, Drew. You're going to be The runway man. You're gonna come out on a runway and you're gonna model all the latest underpants or whatever, and that's gonna be your gimmick 'cause you're the this model character and like all my dreams would just like crash before my very eyes.
But I couldn't register on my face. This is WWE is a huge opportunity. I just announced it, but that's a great idea. Eventually, you know, I had to cut down to 260 to get male models. I lost about 35 pounds.
To get the abs in, looking like an Abercrombie and Fitch model. You know, I was a lot younger looking at the time, a shaved face at the time, a bit of a pretty boy. I had myself look in the part, sat down with Vincent Mann. He asked me my honest opinion of the character. And I said, you know what, sir?
If it gets me on television, I'll make it work. He clearly saw that I did not like it at all and said, Just go out there and be yourself. And if I'd already lost like 35 pounds, I was like, damn it, I need to gain this weight bag somehow. I look like a male model, but I'm going to be a butt kicker. I'm glad that never saw the light of day, though.
Thank God.
So, literally, the idea was. To be a male model walking the runway to the ring. That was the initial. construct and then it morphed into the chosen one, which is You would have chosen that. I would have very much chosen anything where I can just kind of be myself.
The best characters are an extension of your real personality. Right. Male model is nowhere close to Drew's real personality. I was watching YouTube videos trying to figure out how to walk like a runway model and whatever. And I was like, My goodness, this is This is not the one for me.
That's awesome.

Well, yeah. I'll handle the running down. Join the football part, and I'll handle running down people. They're unstoppable.
Well, I think, hey, look, you could block Fornelly. There is such a thing as an offset offense.
So you can actually have one. That'll be great. It'll be terrific. We can get Drew back in there before WrestleMania rate. I look forward to it.

You said how Aaron Paul, you were thinking of killing off his character by the end of season one. The original idea was, you know, you always got to come up with a great season ender. You want a cliffhanger of an episode to keep folks watching next year. And my thought early on, before I even met Aaron, before we cast Aaron, was to have this young guy, former student of Walter White, played by Brian Cranston. Give Walt his entree into the business, sort of show him the ropes of criminality.
And then at the end of that first season, that character, Jesse Pinkman. Would get horribly killed in some very cinematic, graphic way that I never quite nailed down. But he would be murdered by some rival drug dealers, and Walt would feel very guilty, and then he would seek revenge, and that would propel us into season two. Then I meet Aaron Paul, and I cast this young guy, and he's. Fantastic in the role, and he's such a sweet guy to boot.
He's just a wonderful guy. But I think we're probably shooting the second episode, and I was hanging out on the set with him. You know, sitting in those chairs near the monitors, and I just make a conversation. I say, you know, I was going to kill you off. That was the original plan.
He goes, What? He gets all really nervous. He goes, What are you talking about? He goes, No, this is a good thing. It's a good thing.
And I tell him the story I just told you, but he's not hearing the compliment. Contained within, he's just thinking, oh my god, I might get killed off. And I told this story to Brian Cranston. I think he wandered by as he's hearing the tail end of this, and he was relentless for the next six years. He'd get every time he got a script for a new episode before Aaron did, he'd look through it and he'd read it, and then he'd go up to Aaron, he'd say, Buddy, he's put his massaging his shoulders.
It was this next one. At least you're gonna go out with a bang. Yeah. And Aaron, it never got old because Aaron, God bless him, his eyes would just go wide like a deer in the headlights.
Well, because anything could happen on the show. And that was what was such a great thing for me, consuming it, watching it. is you just really never. New. I see something off camera.
I'm wondering what that. What is that? Did you bring this? I did indeed. And this is a gift for you and your studio.
No way. This is, of course, The character of Gustavo Fring, played by the amazing Jim Carlo Esposito. And this is him post, spoiler alert, this is him post. Bad moment in the nursing home. Very bad moment in the nursing home.
Very bad moment. And a wonderful artist. This was part of an art show we had a couple of years ago where artists who were inspired by Breaking Bad came up with various artworks. And this is one of them. I love this one.
We're going to put this on the wall. Tell me where you'll always have a place here, Vince. But that's all. Watch us every day right here on Peacock. On our Peacock app, we're back here on the Rich Eisen Show.
The Peacock app is free. And again, Peacock Premium is the way that you can start watching the exclusive home of the WWE on streaming in the United States and all the content that comes with it right here on Peacock. Very excited. That was great with Drew McIntyre. Let's take a phone call here: 844-204-Rich.
Number to dial. Josh in Virginia has been hanging on for quite some time. What's up, Josh? Hey Rich, how are we doing today? What's going on in your mind, sir?
As a Lions fan, I'm ecstatic.
Okay. I think I'm going to miss Stafford, you know, but the draft capital is something you can't pass on. But this is an overreaction. I think with the trade that just happened, I don't think the market changes for Deshaun Watson.
Okay. I don't know. I'm curious, Rich, because the Rams, I think, overpaid for Matt Stafford, and I think the league knows that. I was a jet fan. You go Sam Darnold or five first-round picks now just because of how the league follows precedent on trade.
And here's the way, and I appreciate the call and the opportunity to unpack this a little bit here and how the. Stafford trade affects Deshaun Watson. You know, Albert Breer of Sports Illustrator had a great deep dive on all of this, and I read it last night. And he said that. that Deshaun Watson there was a tire kicked by the Rams on him.
Sam Farmer of the Los Angeles Times said that the Rams kicked the tires on Aaron Rodgers. And the general manager of the Packers, Brian Guticoots, called that not true. Sam Farmer is not a guy who just throws things around. Willy-nilly. Exactly.
Okay, so and the Rams are, if you haven't noticed, this just in, they're very aggressive.
So I wouldn't be surprised. if that call was made. And Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer said that the Uh cost of Watson, according to the Rams, too rich for the Rams blood, which that's the richest blood that's around. I mean, my gosh, that's really rich. That's like Bitcoin rich.
That's like Elon Musk rich. Too rich for the blood. Dumpstop rich.
So, no, here's the deal.
Okay, here's the deal. Certainly, if they're saying we want Jared Goff, you got to take Jared Goff off our hands. Do I think that Matthew Stafford is worth two first-round choices? Of course not. Straight up?
Of course not. Do the Rams, would the Rams have given up two first-round choices for for Stafford straight up? Of course not. Breer says the Patriots said we'll go we'll flip you a second round pick. And on top of the fact that they got Matt Patricia back on their staff, that was not going to happen.
And Tom Curran had a great article about that at NBC Sports Boston. I read about it. Reason why those two first-round picks are there is 'cause golf is absurdly expensive. You're going to take the rest of his deal on.
So that's why those are there.
So the Jets could basically say Sam Darnold has got two years on his contract left. One of it's a rookie deal. The other is a fifth year option. You can't even compare the two. He's three years younger than Goff as well.
Personally, I think the Jets and Darnold A first this year, next year, and the year after is something that the Texans will have to listen to. If Watson wants to go to New York and says, I want to go to New York and I want out, and I'm not going to be there. And the conversation right now, Texans were just introducing their head coach. They're not making a big trade like this right now. The Lions, it was go time, clearly.
So I don't know how you can compare the two situations. in terms of the compensation that the Lions coughed up. Or got. Pardon me. for Stafford.
and what the Rams coughed up for Safford, and what the the Texans are going to ask for. For Watson for the Jets. It's because The firsts don't even hit till Next year. Jets can say you're two overall this year. Uh far more enticing in my mind.
But there's some time to have a conversation about all that. eight four four two oh four rich number dome. I do this every year. Pleased to do it right here, right now on the Rich Isand Show. I've been around a block on covering Super Bowls.
Been there, done that, as they say. First one I covered was Brady's second championship. First of his back-to-backs. First of his back to back wins in the Super Bowl. Calendar year 2004-2003 season.
That was the first one when he beat Jake Delome and the Carolina Panthers. In the city of Houston. First of two that he won in the city of Houston. Unbelievable. So I've been around a block.
I know what storylines are coming usually for a Super Bowl, and I've got the top 10 storylines that you're going to either hear or get sick of. Over the next few days, Super Bowl 55, starting at number 10. Number 10 is the pandemic Super Bowl. It was an unbelievable season. The Wall Street Journal even wrote.
Uh a piece. this past week. uh over the weekend about how the league uh has a better sense of What is a close contact now? More than maybe even a finer point than what the CDC was putting on it. over the first year of this pandemic.
The NFL is also filling up this stadium with 7,500 fully vaccinated healthcare workers. And we all are going to keep an eye on what's gone down with tests that are negative or not. Right now, knock on wood, if you're with me, everything's fine, but the fact that we've made it through this season... The pandemic season, and here's the Super Bowl. It's the first ever pandemic Super Bowl.
We're going to hear a lot about that and what the NFL's been through and what the NFL has learned. We're already hearing that. Number nine on this list. Steve Spagnolo, is he Brady Kryptonite? The defensive coordinator for the Kansas City Chiefs was the defensive coordinator for Tom Coughlin and those Giants in the David Tyree helmet catch Super Bowl.
Can he once again cook something up against Tom Brady? Is this guy the guy who can, with this defense, Confuse Tom Brady and get him off the spot in a way that we did not see Green Bay do very successfully, or obviously the Saints the week before that. or Chase Young the week before that. Steve Spagnola's done it before. You're going to hear it see a lot of 2007.
Super Bowl tape this week. You're going to hear a lot about the defensive coordinator as Brady Kryptonite. That's storyline number nine. Storyline number eight, whose weapons are better? You're going to hear about it.
Evans and Godwin and Gronk, and then Tyreek Hill, and Sammy Watkins is coming back for the Super Bowl. And Kelsey, two number 87s. We'll get to that in a second. But whose weapons are better? This is when you're going to be hearing a lot of that Scotty Miller talk saying he's faster than Tyreek Hill.
And then the running backs, Maurice Jones, Drew, we didn't have enough time to hit with him earlier this year. Hauer, he thinks that Leonard Fournette is the X Factor, X Factor, and the running backs and Clyde Edwards Elaire, whose weapons are better. That's storyline number eight. And then storyline number seven, deep down. Deeper drilling down and weapons are better.
287s at the tight end position. Gronk, an all-time great first ballot Hall of Famer, and Travis Kelsey, how he has been performing. At the tight end spot for the Kansas City Chiefs, Kelsey versus Gronk. You are going to see a lot of film about these guys and what they've been able to do career-wise and how they're going to be Hall of Fame worthy. And of course, their big, larger-than-life personalities.
That's a storyline. Storyline number six. Tampa Florida, city of champions. Yes, the lightning brought the Stanley Cup there. The Tampa Bay Rays won the American League.
Push the Dodgers to the limit until. Blake Snell was removed in game six. And then of course Tom Brady. Is going to be the man on the spot to bring the Lombardi trophy there. This is where you're going to see a lot.
Of Dick Vitale this week. Dick Vitale is on our screen right there. Dickie V will be the face of Tampa Sports, whether Tampa. Likes it or not, that's this week, our buddy Dickie V. Will be forefront of that conversation.
Top five now: Bruce Arians, the anti-Belichick. Yes, Bruce Arians is definitely going to be introduced to a lot of people who might not know who he is and the no risk it, no biscuit mentality and the guy who's coaching Tom Brady is definitely an old war horse and an old school guy just like Bill Belichick. But when Bruce Arians came on the show last Tuesday, this type of stuff being introduced to America will make everyone say, this guy doesn't sound like Belichick at all. What are you smoking, bro? Give me something.
That's it. If they win the Super Bowl, Bruce Arians will be on the front porch of many casual football fans, and they'll be like, okay. That's Brady's coach. Storyline number four here for Super Bowl 55 is Andy Reid focusing on his legacy. Is this a Hall of Fame game for him making a second straight Super Bowl?
H O F If he wins back to back, does that make this guy who has the ability, if he keeps going. To catch Bill Belichick in all-time wins. If Bill slows down and Andy keeps going all the way to. His early 70s? Is this a legacy game for Andy Reid?
Number three is the conversation off of Andy Reid legacy. Can Patrick Mahomes eventually match and catch Tom Brady? By the end of his career. Wow. Patrick Mahomes, like Tom Brady, sat his first year.
Up until week 17, Brady wet his beak a little bit in his first year, coming in in the blowout loss of a Thanksgiving game in Detroit. How about that? And then Brady, as we know, started in year two. He won the Super Bowl that year. Year two, then Mahomes started.
He almost made the Super Bowl, Brady prevented him from getting there. Brady won back-to-back Super Bowls in year four and five. Mahomes can do it in years three and four. Be ahead of Brady's pace. Can he catch Tom Brady?
Can he prevent Tom Brady from putting distance between him And Tom Brady. Allow Tom Brady to introduce himself as the goat. Can Mahomes catch him? Which leads to number two, the Brady legacy conversation. His 10th Super Bowl going for his seventh win in his 21st year as the first quarterback to ever play on his home turf at a Super Bowl.
That's just for starters. As you know, I think this legacy is already settled. The conversation is over. Just doing what he's doing this year for any argument that might have still been. around.
It's over because Brady's legacy Is the phrase too much? is never enough. He's already saying now on this very day at his media day, first media day appearance of Super Bowl 55, that if he's continuing to play like this at age 45, he'll definitely keep going. Too much is never enough. Legacy is already settled, but you still have a ton of legacy conversations.
And then the top storyline anybody could tell is Mahomes versus Braith. That's it. Every single possibility. Goat versus kid. Mahomes versus Brady.
Name it any way you slice it. Is this the greatest Super Bowl quarterback matchup of all time? Will we be talking about this decades from now? Remember when Brady. went against Mahomes.
Unless we'll be saying next year, remember when Brady went against Mahomes last year? It is the first ever matchup in the Super Bowl. in which The two quarterbacks are the winners of the two previous Super Bowls that were played. That's never happened. happened before and it's happening in Super Bowl 55.
Those are My top 10 storylines for the Super Bowl.
Well done, Rich. I have got Goosebumps just thinking about these. Which one, or two, or three is your favorite? Oh, gosh. Which one's my favorite?
Bruce Aaron's the anti-Belichick. I think, again, with each media appearance for. For Bruce, a lot of people in the country know, you know, obviously the casual fans saw Andy Reid last year and know Mahomes and they know Brady. They're going to get to know Brady. Bruce Arians, who is a special breed.
And I can't wait to see more of him. Um that's m you know, and Mahomes catching Brady. That is. If you, I mean, Brady, as you heard, as you said earlier, Brady's alone, right? Giselle took the kids out of the house for the week?
Out of the house.
Okay. Two weeks alone?
So he's sitting there. After he turns NBC Sports on Peacock off, right? And he's sitting there. Eating smoothies, he's watching film. He's got to be sitting there at some point saying, This kid thinks he can catch me, even though Mahomes is never saying that.
Mahomes is a very humble guy, and he would never say that. He would never even come close to saying something like that. But you know, Brady probably just in his own mind creating whatever edge he needs to create. This kid thinks he can actually catch me. He can get back-to-back Super Bowls before I got my back-to-back Super Bowls.
He can get two Super Bowls. In years three and four. And I got my third Super Bowl in years four and five. He can match me in terms of total Super Bowls in year. Four, but he can already beat me to the back-to-back punch.
He can actually make two Super Bowls, and all he needs is eight more to go to catch me. All he needs to do is win four more after this one to catch me. He could do that. That kid's a certain you don't think he's sitting there for a split second saying that's the added benefit, the cherry on top of him winning it. It's like Jordan making up stories about LeBradford Smith that never happened.
With the exception of Mahomes, is a little bit better than LeBradford Smith. Other than that, I totally pick up what you're putting down, sir. Hour number three. Charles Woodson, who's going to hear his name for the Pro Football Hall of Fame this weekend, and then Carson Palmer, who knows all about the Bruce Arians' anti-Belichick story that's coming up. All right, I love that picture.
Me and Charles up there doing the blue know it. That looks like our set in Minnesota, right? No, that was in Atlanta. Was that Atlanta? Yeah.
Okay. I can't. Charles. Yeah, so many supervisors. You've been to so many.
It's hard. You've been to many. I mean The greatest players. The greatest players. in the history of the University of Michigan football, offense and defense.
Meeting in one backfield in a New England snowy night is truly something you cannot make up.
Okay, when you say that, though, can you say Brady's the greatest in Michigan? Because he wasn't that great at Michigan.
So, would it be more like Elvis Gerbach was the greatest? Charles Woodson is one of the greatest. Oh, Woodson, obviously. After that, you need to bite your tongue, sir. Elvis Gerbach.
What the hell's the matter with you? No, I understand that Brady wasn't the goat at Michigan, but that's that experience. helped Churn. The fire within. Oh, that's fine.
Everything is the same. Yeah, I mean.
So But would you say he was, you wouldn't say he was the greatest Michigan football player? He is the greatest to come out player. Michigan's ever come out. I mean, yes.
So who would get that nod, though? You could say Anthony Carter. Oh, yeah. You could say Desmond. When Desmond was there, I mean, or Tom Harmon, you could name the Heisman Trophy winners, you know what I'm saying?
There you go. You know what I mean? Tim Thibault, people would say, was one of the greatest college football players of all time. He's not the greatest Florida player ever put into the pros. You could say Emmett Smith for that, right?
Well, I mean, you could say Emmett for all of those. Right. But when it all comes down to it, I could say the greatest players in the history of Michigan football. In the NFL are Tom Brady and Charles Woodson. I don't like what you're saying.
I'll be very honest with you. I'm not trying to start. No, you're not. You know, sometimes I am, but not. I just still can't believe that they met in the backfield for one of the greatest moments in the history of the playoffs.
In the Snow Game Rich in the Tuck Roll Game. A history-changing moment. The debt. And Seawood's going into the hall, same first ballot. Hall of Famer.
No doubt. Hall of Famer, first ballot, Hall of Famer. Gold jacket. I am so excited for this conversation. That's awesome.
I know. I agree. It's awesome.
Okay, and then Carson Palmer. Who told us back in the spring? Hey, Brady and Arian's are going to be great together. Just you watch. And now it earned a Super Bowl.
Wow. Charles Woodson, when we come back on Peacock. And
