Brandon Chilldress joined The Drive with Josh Graham and BDaht in studio to discuss how he would have preferred his collegiate career to end, if BDaht really did help him before the Duke game, and more.

Okay, we need to get to the bottom of something. B-Dot's in studio with us. Brandon Childress is joining us on the line, former Wake Forest guard. And after B-Chill had the dagger shots at the end of overtime against Duke, I started talking to B-Dot and he said, man, I gave him the blueprint. I told him exactly what he needed to do in order to beat Duke. And it was just so bizarre to me that you were taking credit for Brandon Childress and Wake Forest's win against Duke.

And what's even crazier than that is you even backed it up when you came in studio the next day. So B-Chill, I got to know, thank you for spending time with us here on Sports Hub Triad. How much did B-Dot help you against Duke? I'm going to be honest with you.

B-Dot helped me out a lot. He didn't help me out a lot. Even when we played Carolina, he was giving me advice, telling me, hey man, this is your time, this is your year. But we had a long conversation, like two days before we played Duke, and just telling me, man, just go all out. Do what you got to do to win. Don't matter what you do, no matter how many points you score, how many minutes you play, do what you got to do and come out victorious. And I promise you, you're going to have the biggest smiley face that you will ever have in your way forward career. I swear, yo, like we went out to dinner.

We were just out there chilling, grubbing. I told him like, I was like, man, y'all can beat Duke, man. They're not as strong as their ranking. And I just was telling him different weaknesses that I saw in that Duke team and different strengths that I thought with two of the guys who are gone now and Sean D, well three of the guys is gone now, and him, Sean D, and Olivier Saar. And I was just telling him, y'all three are strong enough to beat Duke, yo. And I'm telling you, if you just – and what sucked about that game is he was playing like trash all the way up until the end, and then he just went on fire, and he won, and it was crazy. That went crazy. Yeah, you have instant amnesia. That's what that is, B-Chill, right?

You forgot about all those other shots until the end of that game where you had to hit one at the top of the game. I did. Hey, man, listen, my last name Chill just for a reason, man. Tell him Chill. Tell him Chill.

I'm chillin'. This is how I like to picture it. Brandon, you're a good enough basketball player.

You don't need to pursue any other sport to be a multi-sport athlete, but if you were a boxer, I'd like to picture you coming into the ring with B-Dot right by your side. He seems like the loud-height man that would be perfect to have next to you. I don't know what the theme song would be. Oh, man, I wouldn't lose a fight. I wouldn't lose a fight. Would not lose a fight, baby. I'm right there in the corner. I wouldn't lose a fight. That's fantastic.

I wouldn't lose a fight. Brandon, have you had a chance to speak with the new coach of the Duke, Steve Forbes, yet? I know he's been trying to reach out to a lot of former guys.

Honestly, I have not. I showed him a text when he first got the job. Told him to congratulate him. He was walking with open arms.

Welcome to Wake Forest. Just kind of kept it simple. I'm sure a lot of people texted him throughout that time. He hasn't gotten back to me yet. My father actually told me the number of text messages that he got during that time.

I wasn't tripping off of him not responding because I know eventually I'll catch up to him. How much did it mean to you for him to retain your dad on staff? We know what Wake means to Randolph Childress, but to you personally, seeing what Randolph poured in day after day, not just for Danny Manning's staff, but also for Jeff Bezdelic before that, what did it mean to you to see that news? It's not necessarily for me.

It's for my father. If you want to be honest about the whole situation, you got to look at the type of person, the type of coach, and the type of leader that my father is. I say that because anybody who's been on the assistant staff on the three different coaches, it just shows you the type of person he is. It just shows you the knowledge of basketball that he has. That's no knockoff on all the other coaches that's been at Wake Forest at all. It's just something about Wake Forest that Randolph Childress just belongs there. His name is in the Raptors. You've seen what he does. The stats speak for itself. Obviously, he's arguably the best player to ever play at Wake Forest.

I can argue that with anybody. Former Wake Forest guard Brandon Childress is here with us. Does it still sound weird to you to have former a part of that title? I just graduated two days ago, man. Don't say former, yo.

This might sound strange, but I'll ask you it anyway. When I played sports at the high school level, granted a lesser level than what you were competing at in the ACC, closure was very important to me. Closure was important to me in college as well. Even though the ending wasn't what you pictured, you at least were able to compete and things ended on your own volition. There's only bad options for people that were competing this year.

Do you look back and think, man, I'm glad if it had to end, I'm glad it ended with me on the floor competing as hard as I can versus if you were still playing two days later, everything would have got upended. Do you think that would have been the worst option? I mean, I just felt as if like it was supposed to happen. It wasn't. It wasn't. I was God's father. So God said, hey, man, today's one of those days where the season is going to end pretty early. I can't control it.

It doesn't. Yeah, there were certain things I could have done throughout the course of the game to help, you know, I think, you know, be successful. But for me, it was already written. Brandon Childress with us here.

Be.in Studio as well. I think he asked him, Chill, like, which is worse, losing, actually playing the game or not even getting to compete, like maybe like John Newman and them like Syracuse. They were not Syracuse Clemson. They were walking right on the floor and were told right then that they weren't going to get. And John really thinks that they were going to beat Florida State. And to add on that, John was actually on the floor along with the Clemson team applauding Florida State for winning the title. They got the trophy. They didn't even play a game.

Yes. So like from that position, which is worse, actually losing and knowing that you weren't going to win the ACC tournament or still or being canceled and there was nothing you could do if you had to choose one of them. I think it depends on how you look at it, to be honest. You know what I'm saying? Because knock on wood, I don't want to wish injuries on anybody. You know, you put in you say you play and we play in college basketball. There's a general a lot of wins here in your body.

You know what I'm saying? So obviously everybody wants to continue to play, you know, until that first week of April, which is usually where the final four in the national championship is. And in that situation right there. Yeah, I would be hurt, you know, especially as a senior to go out there and find I can't play one of my last. It could have been my last game at that time, depending on, you know, I reckon and things like that.

How I see the end it. But I mean, like I said, it also depends on, you know, how you look at it. So if you're a guy like Tranforged at the time, well, matter of fact, even even guys at Clemson, you know what I'm saying? Like, yes, I know they wanted to go out to play that game, but, you know, had what if they played that game with someone where they got hurt?

You know what I'm saying? I think it just depends on how you look at it. But I mean, it's obviously it's tough to be in this predicament right now that we're in. You know, a lot of people are affected by this, not just, you know, the basketball players, anybody, everybody is in some form, shape or way.

So but to answer your question, yes. I think how I how my season ended, I would prefer it to be that way. Okay.

I want to actually just going out there on the floor, then warming up, then move. I want to somebody tell me I can't play or finish my finish my last year. So I want to close with this. Brandon Childress with us here. Wake Forest Guard, former Wake Forest Guard, even though I know you don't want the former in the title there. Something you said after the Duke game resonated with me because my dad, he was my coach all throughout my all throughout my life. And I tried to outwork everybody when I played sports. And it bothered me more than anything else when anybody suggested that the reason why I was successful or the reason why I made a team or the reason why I started was because of my dad. And you, you made sure to point out that people doubted you, whether or not you could play at the ACC level. And you proved those people wrong with the way you scored, the way you assisted, the way that you played, your approach to things. How much of that was a fueling factor for you?

I mean, it's still a fuel to me to this day. Like to this day, everything I do, a lot of people say, well, I got this because of my dad. My father never touched a fingerprint in my recruiting process at all. Any unofficial business, my father didn't go with me. He wanted me to make a decision on my own.

If I earned the scholarship the way I would earn it. And before, you know what I'm saying, Coach Mann was hired. I actually was getting ready to have a conversation with Jeff Bezdelic about, you know, you know, being recruited by Wake Forest and looking forward to, you know, watching me play and things like that.

And obviously, you know, he part ways. And of course, Coach Manning gets the job during that time. And when Coach Manning got a job, I was a rising junior. And obviously, AAU was going on during that time. So I had some good games, especially playing in front of a lot of college coaches during that time. And Coach Steve Woodbury offered, you know, City liked my game and they offered me the scholarship. And then after that, throughout the whole summer, had a pretty good summer, more offers came in. A lot of big majors, but I knew I wanted where I wanted to play. And it was in the ACC.

Just to prove, just to show people that, I mean, just to show a lot of guys that you don't have to be the most athletic to compete and play in the ACC. And so I did that. I outworked everybody that was in front of me.

You know, I silence the critics, but I still feel like I didn't silence enough critics. So, you know, I'm always had that chip in my shoulder regardless of what's going on and where I'm going to play at. But for me, it was just like, I know nobody. That's why I wear number zero, because I don't want nobody to give me anything.

Whatever. And that's part of the reason why I play with so much, you know, passion and emotion, because a lot of people really don't understand, like, you hear this every day. And at some point you do get immune to it. But then when that's your motivation, you kind of understand why I had so much passion out there in the pool. Whatever the next step is, B Dot is committed to be the hype man for you. Damn right. Oh, that's my dog for life. You know that, man. Hey.

My dog for life. It's good to hear from you, Brandon. Thanks for doing this. Man, I appreciate you guys. Thank you so much.

You got it. He's on Twitter at Agent Underscore Zero, former weight guard Brandon Childress, who graduated two weeks, not two weeks, two days. Two days ago.

Two days ago. Oh, wait. Brandon Childress has one last thing to say to B Dot on the way out. What's up? Hey, B Dot, you still coming over for Thanksgiving dinner, man? Absolutely.

Every year. Yo, you know I can't get enough of Tab's food. Stop playing. Hold one sec.

Hold one sec. How much is, what is your go-to dish on Thanksgiving? What are you eating? I'm eating Tab Cook's.

Like, listen, like Tab puts down over there, okay? You understand what I'm saying? And I'm definitely, and I ain't, listen, I'm not trying to wait till Thanksgiving, bruh. As soon as this whole quarantine stuff is lifted, I'm right there to the crib.

Man, I'm with it. You already know. Where you at now anyway? You in North Carolina? You still down in Miami training? I'm still in Miami, man. Get it in, bro.

Yeah. Stay, stay safe, B Chill. Thanks for doing this. Will do. Take it easy. There you go.

Now you have something to look forward to, Dot. Absolutely, man. That's the little bro, man. I like hearing that story because I'm in a situation where I have a bit of status and my son comes up under that. And I know a lot of times people view him in his little sector.

Your dad's on the radio and your dad's on TV, et cetera, et cetera. And it's so difficult trying to navigate him to be his own individual. So I'm glad that B Chill was able to get big wins like Carolina and Duke and silence certain critics and also understand that he still ain't silenced everybody. And that's gonna continue to drive him, man. Like, imagine what Bronny James is going through.

Oh my God, dude. He's named LeBron. Think about Michael Jordan's kids who actually tried to play basketball and sucked. I covered one of their games. I covered, I think Jeffrey Jordan, one of their games.

It was funny. I think UCF at that time was an Adidas school. So the entire team was wearing Adidas, except, except for Jordan's son.

I mean, yeah, we're going to make an exception there. And he had the goggles. Who am I speaking with, Robert? Let's go to Scott in Winston-Salem real quick before we let VDOT go. Scott, what do you got on Brandon Childress? I just want to let you know I'm a big fan of his. I'm a big fan of his dad's. And I remember Brandon when he was about two or three years old.

I was doing security for a Wake Forest basketball game and he and his dad and wife, his dad's wife, Brandon's mom, and Delaney Rock were sitting out in the crowd. And after the game, we chatted for a few minutes. And I asked Randolph, I said, do you think Brandon's going to be a basketball player?

And he said, possibly, but I said, it looks like right now he's more interested in football because he was acting like he was hiking a football in the arena. And he was just a cool young man. And he is a grown up. And I think he's going to be a role model in the future. Yeah, I think so.

I think he already is. Thanks for the call, Scott. That's great stuff.

VDOT, you got to get running. I do, man. Appreciate y'all. Thanks for doing this, man. It's good to see you as always. Yes, sir. Y'all be good to see you Wednesday.
