And let's get into the program. Will Dalton, the W. D. Signing in. Checking in.
I've entered the chat.
So has Morgan producing everything. You ready for some hockey? Let's fire it up. Keynes, Canadians, game four tonight. Yeah.
But that can wait for just a minute. Aha, teased you. Gotcha. I want to talk about the Carolina Panthers. I want to talk about Bryce Young.
Because Yeah. I don't know. You can still have questions. about Bryce Young and how good you think he's gonna be. and whether or not you think he's going to be the future for the Carolina Panthers.
But you don't have to be disrespectful about it. Don't be disrespectful. Bryce Young doesn't deserve that anymore.
Now there's some fans out there. Panther fans who No matter what Bryce does. Like, unless he gets to the Super Bowl and wins one this year. Like They're just And I bet you they'd like that, though, despite all the things they've had to say about Bryce. Outside of a Super Bowl win or maybe getting to one, there's nothing he can do.
There's nothing that can happen that are gonna change, that's gonna change their mind about Bryce. Nothing. It's just closed-minded. Shut it down. Nothing to see here.
Despite the growth over the last couple of years, since his return from being benched in week two in 2024. I don't really take those people all that seriously. The people like, oh, price sucks. I just don't. 'Cause like...
One of my favorite things. That David Glenn of NC Sports Network. It says Everything has nuance. Like clearly Bryce has demonstrated by now he does not suck. He's demonstrated that.
He went toe to toe. And Really out-dueled Matt Stafford in that wild card game against the Rams. Not his fault. The defense had a little soft coverage. Just throwing that out there.
Um So you got that. But when it starts to get to, that's the fan perspective of this in terms of people like, you don't really take all that seriously. You know who else I don't take all that seriously? National talking heads. National media members who won Don't cover the Carolina Panthers closely.
Don't follow the Carolina Panthers closely like we do around here. Really could care less and have nothing to do with that, they got nothing to do with the Carolina Panthers. don't really know what goes on. I don't really take those people all that seriously when they say things, especially like what you're about to hear. From Chris Sims of NBC.
So He put out a list. He put out a quarterback ranking. the other week. And it's just disrespectful where he's got Bryce. This is all the active quarterbacks in the league, all the way to Carson Beck.
Who registers last on the list, by the way? I think 43rd. I think that's as far and back as he went. He has Bryce Young at 31. Thirty first.
After everything we've seen. after the the improvement every year. Going toe to toe with Matt Stafford in a wild card game that the Panthers should have won and they lost, and it had nothing to do with Bryce. If anything, he did everything to make them win. 31st.
Let's listen to Chris Sims. in this clip here. Why he has bra just listen to it. Number 31, a former number one overall pick. It felt like there were moments of moving forward for Bryce Young last year, Chris.
But the question is, after re-watching the film. Where did it ultimately land? Did we get too far over our skis that Bryce Young has arrived? I think so. I do.
It was better. No doubt about that. Sure. You know, there is. And is he.
He's just a good little athlete. You know, he does have good feel for the position. And anticipating throws and doing stuff like that. But yet, at the end of the day, this is still a guy that, because of his size, there's plays turned down because of not hanging in the pocket or not seeing it. At times, it's too conservative because it's like, well, he can't really see that guy down the middle, and there's somebody there, so it goes underneath, right?
So that's an issue. The aggressive decision-making is not quite where I would want it to be. And at a base level, the throwing is just not good enough for me to rank them above this. Mm-hmm. A good little athlete.
Maybe a dig at the size thing. Again. still doing this in 2026. These are things, again, you have to look at people's track record on things. And Chris Sims has a bit of a track record of.
kind of Ragging on the Panthers, Bryce Young a little bit. We'll get to another clip that I thought was pretty comical from Chris Sims about Bryce. Um Here in just a second, but Let me go over some of the quarterbacks here. that are ranked ahead of Bryce Young on this list. Just want you to Take a gander with me on this.
Bryce at 31. He's got Kyler Murray at 30. I'm not going to argue too much with that one. I mean I could nitpick and say Kyler Murray's only played in five games since 2024, but I won't do that. I mean, he's a very talented quarterback.
He is. Uh but this is where I start to have an issue though. At number 21, Mac Jones! The backup Quarterback for the nine, the backup quarterback. is higher ranked than Bryce Young.
Who took his team to the playoffs? That's what we're doing. Let's continue on, shall we, class? Number 28. Joe Flacco.
I have a lot of respect for Joe Flacco. Loved him in the Ravens days. Very impressive taking the Cleveland Browns to the playoffs a couple of years ago when he stepped in. He is not better than Bryce Young at this point in his career. He's well on the decline.
He's 41 years old. What are we doing here? Tyler Shuck. Of the New Orleans Saints comes. He's higher than Joe Flacco.
If you want to know what this list is all about. And Tyler Shuck had the Saints playing pesky at the end of the year. But he didn't win the division. Price Young did that. I like Bryce Young better than Tyler Shuck, I like to think.
So I mean, just looking at some of these numbers, Bryce ranked 22 in the league in QBR. That's higher than Jacoby Brissette, who was higher than Bryce on this list. Higher than Joe Flacco, higher than Tua Tunga Vailoa, higher than Geno Smith, Cam Ward, Mac Jones. Oh, by the way, he has Cam Ward higher on this list as well.
Now, to be fair, Cam Ward did throw for more yards. Then Bryce did. But I think that ranking right there, having Cam Ward higher than Bryce, that's completely on what he thinks Cam Ward is going to become. But Price had a higher QBR. But this, again, like I said, this is not the first time we've heard Chris Sims do this.
He ragged on Bryce, and the Panthers had nothing good to say. Going into the regular season matchup with the Rams. Towards the end of the year? You know the one that the Panthers won? Uh the 11th.
of the 11 fourth quarter comebacks that Bryce Young has. youngest player to have that many. Boy, he changes tune after that game, listen. He's grown in a lot of areas, Bryce Young. And I think the biggest one is his feel in the pocket and not panicking in the pocket.
You see him now, or maybe last year, first year in the NFL, he got people around him. He wanted to throw it. He wanted to not take a hit.
Now he's very comfortable. He moves the right way, and he's seeing the field and making big throws down the field. Nah, stay over there, Chris. Just stay on that side. And it sounds like he's going to because now that, you know, the dust has settled and we're on to a new season, he's just right back to, you know.
Oh, geez. Bryce Young, number 31. on this list. There are questions. There are questions about Bryce still.
But 31 and having People like Joe Flacco. And Mac Jones, that's the one that really got Mac Jones, you have better? Or are higher on this list? Like in the fourth quarter, who do you want, Mac Jones or Bryce Young? I think I'll take Bryce.
I think I will. Yeah, Mac Jones' career ended after that Grady in the Pro Bowl. It's gross. It's just gross. Thank you for bringing that back up.
I really didn't want to think about that. Winning time is what matters most. And 11 fourth quarter comebacks. Like it got to the point, and I was at these games, you guys. It got to the point.
Where if the Panthers were down And Bryce got in the game with two to three minutes left. It was almost like it was automatic. It was almost like you knew what was going to happen. And for the most part, it did. It happened in the Rams game in the playoffs.
It would have been 12 had the defense done their job.
So. Yeah. 31. On this l I I couldn't believe it, but at the same time, I absolutely could believe it. Unbelievable.
Morgan Corson, executive producer of the show. I'm fired up today. Yeah, I can tell. Fired up. Rare and a go.
Chris Sims getting on my nerves. Yeah, Mac, as a Patriots fan here, Mac knows the Mac attack has faded. It was here for about three-fourths of a season, and then he gritted his way on down to average. And um He's not where he needs to be at to be above Bryce Young. There are still, like you said, a lot of questions for Bryce Young.
Sure. What were they? I think eight and nine last season.
So, and he put them into a lot of tough situations down the stretch, which young quarterbacks do. That's not uncommon. But I'd say he's at least the top twenty. At least. Sure.
I don't know much about him, so I'm not going to say top 15, but I would bet probably a top 15 quarterback also. Depending on your opinions of him. But I mean, yes, the shortness, depending on how you like your quarterbacks, could play him, how you view him, but he hasn't shown that that affects him. And honestly, it kind of. helps him in the way he plays and his nimbleness.
Yeah, and I mean He tried to use the example not going downfield.
Well, a lot of that has to do with play calling too. Like Again, just Trying to find all these angles. It just, I don't know. We'll get back to it a little later on. I'd like to turn the page.
I'm getting a little frustrated here. Let's talk about those canes. Yeah, yeah.
Okay. Yeah, Keynes Canadiens. Game 4, Montreal tonight.
So the Cains I feel like, in a way, have become this year's Florida Panthers in the East. Just in the way they're built, the way they play, the way they're. They have so many different ways they can win. Is it stank? Is it slaving?
Is it svetched like it was in game three? Is it aho? Is it eelers? They got a lot of ways to make it happen. And Another way I feel like the Kanes have become the Panthers a little bit.
Specifically looking at the Eastern Conference finals is because I mean, you guys remember they would lose those games, tight games, tight contested games. To the Panthers, but like a goal.
Now they're winning b games by a goal. The last two. Both in overtime. It's been They've been the best team so far in this series. And that's not even just me saying that.
In the state of North Carolina, P.K. Saban, who. Who people feel like hates the Kanes. He went on Pat McAfee today and said. that much.
Not this series up tonight. Two, two? There They're gonna need I mean, they're going to be playing fast.
So, what they're going to need to do is to play their game in that way, but not too aggressive, because they're going to be aggressive. They're going to be on full tilt tonight. I think they're going to be desperate. as they should be. But They got to be careful not to Be too aggressive, too desperate, to where the Kanes take advantage of that the same way the Canadians took advantage of the Kanes being very.
Overly aggressive in game one. We see how that turned out. 4-1 after the first period is how that turned out.
So But that's when the Canadians are at their best, is when they're playing fast like that, but controlled fast. Dovish is going to have to play out of his mind tonight for Montreal. And I don't think that happens. I don't think that happens. I thought about this.
I'm like, man, you know how the playoffs go? I feel like it's just back and forth. Montreal, nah. Keynes, they win another tight one tonight. They take a 3-1 lead and they take it with them right back to Raleigh as I punch my mic.
Fire it up! All right. That that that they that gave me some juice right there. Make some noise, make some noise, let's go! If you've ever yelled at a ref, this show's for you.
You're on the drive. And about 10 minutes. I want to talk about a A team in the NFL. That it's a little surprising to me that They're being slept on and not... really viewed as a contender.
any more. We'll get to that in just a little bit, but We gotta react to what we saw between the Thunder and the Spurs last night. Thunder taking a 3-2 lead in this series.
Meanwhile, the Knicks Up in Gotham City, they're just waiting. They're waiting. Watching Getting ready. to take on to be very well rested Taking on either of these two teams on. Um Wednesday night of next week, that's when the finals officially get underway.
And The thing that really stood out to me Wimby had a rare off night. Relatively speaking. Like The Thunder, they kind of were better on the glass. than what the Spurs were. Like just taking a look at some of these numbers.
Like Wimby. This is what we consider an off night. Twenty points. 20 points and six rebounds. That's a bad night in Wimby standards.
And it was. He was 4 or 15 from the field.
Meanwhile, Chet Holm grinned. Six of nine from the field had 16 points. But 11 boards. That's... That's where some of the separation came from.
Hartenstein. He had 15 boards.
So The glass, that's where things became a bit of a problem. For San Antonio. Also Caruso He might go into the role player Hall of Fame. Alex Caruso, man, I tell you what. Like, after playing the role that he did to lead the Lakers to a championship.
By my man's going for ring number three. He led the Lakers to a title in the bubble. I don't care what you say. It was legit. Don't care.
A title is a title. One with the Thunder last year, of course. And now he's out here like last night, putting up 22 points, five of 10 from the field. He's a solid glue guy. He doesn't care how he gets done as long as he'll do whatever he needs to do, whether that's shooting, passing, whatever.
It really is. Like, I love the way Alex Caruso plays, I love the chip. that he plays with, like... In game four, I remember one of the cameramen were like, In the uh as the timeout was beginning, like one of the cameramen For NBC was like panning up towards the bench. And the Caruso like pushed the camera away, like, get that out of here.
Yeah, yeah.
Chip event.
So The Thunder, they go up 3-2. How about this? Jared McCain. Uh he got his first start. With the thunder.
No J dub. No J-Dub, so he was in place of him and he had 20 points. Seven of 19. Man, what a If you just want to find reasons that Daryl Maury was fired from the Sixers. Look no further than Jared McCain.
and dealing him the way they did. Like just Just malpracticed the way they did that.
Now we're a little bit biased around here because we cover Jared McCain and Duke. We know what he's made of. We know what he's all about. He's a bucket, man. Like when he puts up a three, like I remember at Duke, when he would put up a three, I pretty much thought it was going in.
And guess what? It did. Just shocking the way Philly traded him the way they did. and now the thunder as if they needed more help. They're benefiting from it.
They're benefiting from it. Did um Did you see that Victor Wemanyama didn't meet with the media last night? I did not know this.
So. He didn't meet with the media. And according to Shums. The NBA has warned him. about that because you got media listen.
You have a bad night. And listen, I Wimby He plays with a chip on his shoulder. Like he For as much of a physical freak as he is. Like it He carries a certain mentality with him. Like where he's got that edge, which makes him even more dangerous.
You know what I mean? And I mean, my guy's out here working out with monks. In the offseason. He got tortured. This ain't nothing.
The pressure of an NBA series, get out of here. He was training with monks. This is nothing. I mean, you see him take the deep breath at the free throw line. He's remembering back Ooh, Sah.
Like, he's, I don't know what they do with the ma. I don't know. I have no idea. Just taking deep breaths. That's what he's doing.
So Uh I can understand why he after a bad night like that. Drops a game.
Now the Thunder of One went away. from the NBA Finals. I get why a player like that wouldn't want to meet with the media, but you got to do it, man. You got to face the music, you got to answer the bell. You have to.
It's part of your job. And the NBA did warn him And Sam Amick. Who covers the Spurs and the NBA? He went a little further on social media saying that. Uh the reason they just issued him a warning.
They didn't fine him or anything is because they took into account that he's considered a first-time offender on this.
So this is twice in these playoffs now. That Wimby's gotten away with one without a fine or a suspension. You had the... Yeah. The elbow in the last series, if you remember that.
I'll never forget Dylan's Harper's reaction. Just, oh, this reaction to that. Just a blatant mwah! And now there's th and he didn't get suspended for that. I mean, to be fair, it happened nine minutes into the game, so they probably viewed that essentially a suspension.
Maybe they factored that in. And now you got this.
Now you got this. where he's not going to get a fine or anything like that.
So Wimby didn't answer the bell last night, but boy SGA did when it's all said and done. Did you see what he did? He balled out. He balled out, man. The Thunder needed him to look like this.
If the Thunder were going to go up against the Spurs, if they were going to. Be able to overcome the freakish physicality. That is Wimby. and this just elite youth that they have in Harper and Castle and the South. They needed SGA to be SGA.
And last night he was 32 points. Nine assists, two boards. He was that guy last night, and I think... Between him being awesome and Wimby having an off night, and then the s the difference on the glass, I think that was.
some of the X factors that has the Thunder up three, two. I'm gonna say something that's gonna ruffle some feathers. Uh-oh. I'm not impressed in this series I'm actually a little disappointed. I'm a little disappointed in this series.
I feel like every night one of the star players is having a down night and it turns into a blowout game where someone's not playing.
So you had the first game here. Double overtime. Great game. The second game. Nine point lead for the Thunder at the end.
Pretty good game. Not bad. Nine points, still attainable, still reachable. The next game Thunder win by fifteen. Not great.
Spurs win by 21. What are we doing? Thunderwind by 13. I mean, I would have thought that this series would have produced, the way it was being hyped up, closer games than this. I feel like every night somebody's just not performing or hurt.
And it's just not giving me the games that I was expecting to see. Not saying it's not great games, I just think it's not matching the level of hype that we were expecting to see coming into the series.
So, Morgan's not impressed. I'm not impressed with this back and forth series. in the Western Conference finals. You guys know what's going seven, right? It's gonna go seven.
And I hope game seven's good. It will be. It will be. Yeah, it's one game. It's just one game, and SGA is going to.
He actually spent more time on his feet last night than I'd seen the whole playoffs.
So that was pretty impressive, too. Speaking of that, though.
So there was a moment where Wimby. He as he was checking out in garbage time, And as Bismac Biambo. Didn't know he was still in the league. on the Spurs bench. And Mason Plumley, Hornet's legend, Yeah.
I always find that fascinating, by the way. Not to change the topic, this is the ADHD coming out. I When guys like start the year on what was a bad team to start the year, the Hornets 4 and 14, and then you get traded to a really good team and you end up in the NBA Finals or what have you, it's like, oh boy, what a change of scenery. You know, I don't know. I always found that interesting.
Um But Bismac Biambo And Mason Plumley check in in in garbage time and And Wimby can be seen. Whispering something to Bismack Biombo and Mason as they're checking in. And wouldn't you know it, they then both immediately picked up dirty fouls on Jared McCain. I I'm just saying that I think uh I think the league at large is getting a little sick of the flopping, and I don't Think Jared McCain's been a part of this. It's SGA.
I don't. I don't think the leagues I think The players among the league are getting a little sick of the The flopping and the the acting to get foul calls and some of these players are Enforcing things. I mean, they've they've been watching SpongeBob this whole time, and the intro says flop like a fish, so naturally they're gonna do that on the court. I mean. Oh, man.
Thunder, take a three-two lead. All takes, no breaks, and no chance you're bored. You're clocked out email off. Back to the Triad's longest-running live sports talk show, The Drive. We'll get to some interesting things you didn't know you needed to know here in just a minute.
But I'm fascinated how a team can go to the Super Bowl. Like the New England Patriots just did. And in the blink of an eye over the course of an offseason, Nobody views them as a contender anymore.
Now, I get it. If there's like major, major... Losses on the team. But see, this is where Morgan, the Patriots fan, comes in. Like, other than Stephon Diggs.
Who you even made the d the comment earlier today that he wasn't even like productive to the point where that should really shift things. Yeah, I mean, it is a hit. That's a thousand-yard receiver. Yeah. He didn't make any moves in the Super Bowl or in the playoffs.
So use a non-factor. But besides him, We really just lost some backups and some role players and Josh Dobbs.
So Not not a lot of stuff lost there, but... I mean They replaced Stefan Diggs with Romeo Dobbs from Green Bay, 55 receptions, 700 and some odd yards. Perfect role for him to step up and play with, in my opinion, a tier, the same tier or a tier up from Jordan Love. I feel like Drake May improved himself very well last year. But I mean There's not a lot.
of change on this team and actually When I was looking over it, it seems like they got better. Do explain. Eliya Vera Tucker says the 2021 Fourteenth overall pick has been riddled with injuries, but if he can stay healthy, He is a talented, talented guard. In 2024, the fourth lowest pressure rate. With 2.8%.
This is big for a team that struggled with allowing sacks, and Drake May was running for his life. Late in the season. Drafted Caleb Lomu can play left tackle. Hey, you know who can't play left tackle? Will Campbell.
So this works perfectly for the Patriots.
So you're with the Will Campbell criticism. You're in on that. He let somebody buy him every play during the Super Bowl. He did. I love Will Campbell's attitude.
He came in the draft and said, I'm ready to die. For Drake May.
Well, he may as well have because he wasn't there. He wasn't there. He might as well have just been playing me or you, Will. Like, that would have been more effective, but. I mean With digs gone.
And Dobbs in. We won't really know how good this team is. Until O T A's gets under way in their chemistry And once, I think, three or four days come around and the Patriots may acquire A.J. Brown. That receiver room with A.J.
Brown becomes one of the top three wide receiver rooms. In the NFL, which it's gonna happen. Hunter Henry, Romeo Dobbs, and Kayshawn Boot. It's gonna happen. Is it boot or booty?
I've heard it both ways. Yeah, I say booty. I think it's funnier. It is pretty funny. And I'm a child, so I laugh at those things.
I mean, this is a team that won four, they went 14-3 last year. And yeah, the Bills had a down season.
So did the Bengals and the Ravens and the Chiefs. Womp womp. It's gonna happen. Every once in a while, the AFC is gonna be the lesser of the two conferences. This year the conferences look very similar, a bunch of powerhouses.
And I'm ready for the Patriots to show the world not to be underrated. And I feel like This will happen once AJ Brown is acquired. Because I think people have forgotten that that's a move that's going to happen, and it depends on who gets moved for him.
Well, to your point, so OTAs are underway. And we actually heard from Drake May That run And um We're not the only one that senses this. Here he was on the team's mentality in OTAs right now, that he actually is liking the way they're going about things. One of the best things you're seeing about this team as we wanna, you know, um you know, get a give back and you kind of not feel like you know last year was just a you know, one-off year and we're trying to prove ourselves, uh, you know, to to ourselves. You know, really, and into this football, to this football league, that we're a tough team to beat.
So we're not the only one that smells this in the water. And yeah, the Patriots in recent years have had a great quarterback for one year, and then they kinda. Falling off Mac Jones, but better than Bryce Young, according to Chris Sims. Wild take. Anyway, not to get side railed, but.
Yeah, Drake May still has more to prove.
So, do all the young quarterbacks and the young team. This is a young team that has a strong veteran presence. The best of both worlds. They've got a coach that, if they can move past the distractions off the field with Mike Rabel. that the team will take up his he Smash Head Cam Scataboo style.
Which I thought they did last year. Like that that's the other piece of this. I wonder. I think it's because it's all the reasons you just said. Plus, the AFC is loaded.
So there's that. Yeah, there's the Mike Vrabel stuff, off the field stuff and Maybe people think that's going to leak into the locker room. I don't personally think it is because I think Drake May is an adult. running things and I think Mike Brable uh Mike Vrabel Is also an adult, despite some of the things he's done off the field. Um, Yeah.
They add A.J. Brown. They're right back in the mix as a contender, in my opinion. 336, 777, 1600. Do you think?
The New England Patriots are being kinda... Forgotten right now? Or do you agree that they shouldn't be considered a contender? I want to hear from you. Let's Discuss.
Some things you didn't know you needed to know. Things you want to know, you should know, but you don't know. What? What? Oh my.
The game within the game. What do you mean by that? Let me give you an example. Time for stuff you didn't know, you needed to know. Really?
Oh, yeah. Only five this week, a little bit shorter, saving some for later down the road.
So Major League Baseball games last around two, two and a half, three hours. And there's only 18 minutes of actual action in the average MLB game. Oh, you mean like things happening? Yes, not just like pitches thrown, base action, the average 18 minutes. Interesting.
I didn't know that. The winners of the Olympics were originally not awarded gold medals. Winners were given silver medals and an olive branch.
Okay, I The winners were given an olive branch. Yeah. Yeah yeah. I feel like I had heard s I feel like I had heard that somewhere. Is that where the phrase give an olive branch comes from?
I don't know. I don't know. Yes. I think I'd prefer the gold.
So this is an odd one here. The World Record. For the most non-stop push-ups. Is performed by a Japanese man named Minoru Yoshinada. Nailed it.
10,507 push-ups. I did confirm this with multiple sites.
So this is. This is real, I don't have the year. That's a lot. That's a lot of push-ups, yeah. And I'm somebody that likes to do push-ups like.
If I'm ever like busy and like I just want to get like something quick in and I don't ha really have the time or want to make the time to go to the gym because I need to do other things, like I'll just pump out some sets of like 20 push-ups. Just and I mean it. It's a good workout, but that's a lot of push-ups. Sticking with Japan, they are home to the world's largest bowling alley, the Indwa Bowling Center. 116 consecutive lanes On a single floor, no supporting pillars in between the lanes.
Hmm. Interesting. I think the average one I see is about 16 to 20 lanes, maybe 30 if you're at a bigger one alley. 116 lanes. Can you imagine what that looks and sounds like?
Like, just. Because I mean, bowling alleys are pretty loud. They're pretty noisy because you got a lot of stuff going on. Like, could you imagine all those lanes? It's a lot of lanes.
It really is. Alright. We were talking about wings earlier, as we know, thang like a chicken wang. Anyway, nope. They were invented.
March 4th, 1964, at the Anchor Bar in Buffalo, New York. Teresa Bellissimo. Deep-fried leftover chicken wings and tossed them into a spicy butter and cayenne sauce as a late-night snack for her son and his friends. At that time, chicken wings were cheap. And they were the undesirable parts of the bird, used for stocks or soups.
So they weren't eating because there was a lot of work to eat that. And not a lot of meat on it. But this right here in 1964. Was where it came from. And that's why we are now paying $2 for tiny pieces of chicken.
Yeah. You you had a A not-so-great wing experience. You don't have to say where they were from, but like, you had a not-so-great wing experience yesterday, didn't you? Yeah, so the other day I had some wings, and I won't disclose. I should have gone to East Coast Wings.
Yeah, you should have, so we can check them off the list. It wasn't their fault. It was not East Coast Wings. Those wings are fired, the medium honeymoon. Anyway.
Um I'm so hungry again. Again, you're always hungry. Oh yeah. These wings were tiny. Dry Crunchy.
and had very little sauce on them, no flavor. I was extremely disappointed in these wings. And I should have dished out the few extra bucks and gone to East Coast Wave. You should have! You really should have.
But I didn't want to wait. They were closer, and I should have. Should have driven a little longer. Task, task. That's been things you didn't know you needed to know.
See I I'm more of a drumstick guy. When it comes to the w of course, that's a leg, though, right? Chicken leg. No, a drumstick is the leg, but then they have the little ones.
Okay. And th that's a part of the wing, I think. I think you're right. Yeah. Do you prefer the drumstick or the flats?
I'm a stick guy, not the flats. I I don't know. I honestly, I don't care. I just like wings. Supposedly, the flats actually have more meat on them.
Yeah, but it worked. Yeah, I don't know. But the drumsta, apparently, it's like deceptive. You think it has more on it, but it actually doesn't. I like the stick a little better, but honestly, if they're if they're sauced up and they're good, I'm eating them all.
33677 and 1600. Do you pre do you prefer drumsticks or flats? And your favorite flavor? Yeah. For a chance.
To win Hank Williams Jr. tickets. Ah, you didn't see that coming, did you?
So he's gonna be in Charlotte. In just three days, May 30th. Joe Nicholl's going to be a special guest. And we got tickets. Call us up, 336-777-1600.
Got two pair. All you have to do is Get in on this and tell us. Do you prefer the drumsticks or the flats when it comes to wings? And what's the flavor of choice? I wanna know.
Triad, I want to know. 336-777-1600 for a chance to win Hank Williams Jr. tickets. Real talky, but not real listening. Will Dalton has local takes, big opinions, and the triad's best sports talk.
This is the drive. Back at it on the drive, right here on WSJS. Where all good things must come to an end. We've been in the green. We've done pretty good with the picks in the last.
week and a half, two weeks after A bad stretch? and so far since we've started to keep a record here with our summer bets. 13 and 9. Not bad. And uh last night didn't go so well.
Let's talk about it. Stack it up, stack, stack, gotta stack it up. Get the money, get the money on the floor. It's time to cash in. Welcome to Dalton's Dollars.
Come in the money! Breaking down the board and building the bankroll.
So I put four on the card last night. Four. And It all started with. The Spurs? I was getting a little risky for the biscuit.
Oh bit. I had the Thunder, or I had the Spurs winning last night, stealing another one on the road. Probably shouldn't have done that. Probably shouldn't have. But I went with it 'cause some you know that That's the thing, when you make sports picks and takes and you Do this every day.
It's like you're going to miss something. It's going to happen. You got to keep swinging, as the saying goes. I took Spurs plus four and a half. Nope.
Not even close. I also took Vegas. Avalanche to go over six goals.
Okay. That was well off. Vegas, how about this? sweeping to move on to the Stanley Cup final. Vegas, they got on the board early within the first five minutes with that first goal.
Didn't get one in net again until. The third period. to make it to nothing and That was really the dagger. Just incredible. That they were able to sweep a team as good as the Colorado Avalanche.
Just incredible. Because I mean, that was a team that a lot of people had going to the Stanley Cup, and they got swept. Incredible.
So that didn't hit. Over two on that. Then. Took Cam Schlittler. To have over five and a half strikeouts against the Royals.
He had six. Show me the fire! The Yankees beat the brakes off the Royals last night. You see that? What was it?
15 to 2? 15-2, I believe it was, the final. That's the 13th straight win over the Royals for the Yankees. Not to brag or anything. And it was on the road, of course, in Kansas City.
Garratt Cole's on the bump tonight. That may or may not sway one of my picks I'm about to make, but that was the one that did hit last night. And the third was Kyle Schwarber. To go over one and a half, combined hits, RBIs, and runs at the Padres. He just had a hit.
Just had a hit. Said one and three last night. One and three. That takes our record to 14 and 12. Still in the green, but it's getting a little tight.
Little tight.
So let's make some picks for tonight's action. I mention Garrett Cole's gonna be on the bump. I like him to go over four and a half K's. Show me the flyer! I do.
Third game of the series with Kansas City. And He had a nice performance in his debut, although it resulted in a loss. Wasn't his fault. Had six Ks against the Rays on Friday night, so I like him to go over four and a half. Um I also like Bryce Elder.
to go under Two and a half ERA tonight. STROVE DIVEL! I like that. I like that a lot. Braves.
Taking on the Red Sox. And I like the Braves to win this game. That's not a money line pick or anything. I just like the Braves to win it. And I like Bryce Elder again to go under.
Two and a half. In terms of The Canes, the Canadiens tonight in Montreal. Game four. That was the first time. The Cana uh the the Canadians lost back-to-back games this postseason.
In games two and three there. With that said, give me the canes money line. How big? They're going back to Raleigh up 3-1. That's what I got.
So. After a one and three night last night, we got to get back on the right side of history here. Bryce Elder for the Braves against the Red Sox under 2.5 ERA. Garrett Cole against the Royals for the Yankees over 4.5 strikeouts. Keynes Moneyline against Montreal.
Three of them! Three of them. Gotta tell you better, uh Our website WSJS.com. The prizes are live. The prizes are live action.
Get it going. We'll do it live.
Okay. We'll do it live! Yeah. Okay. It always makes me laugh because I know what he says right after that.
Have you seen the clip? But we can't say that on FCC airwaves. But I always think it. Uh Sunnyside winning. That's what we got on WSJS.com.
We got several prizes. Machine Gun Kelly. How about this one? This Sunday night. With Wiz Khalifa.
I kind of want to go to this. It's in Charlotte. Also got tickets to the TST soccer event in Kerry. Weird Al Yankovit gonna be coming to Greensboro? Smashing Pumpkins gonna be in Charlotte?
That's in October, so that's a list of prizes we have on our website right now, WSJS. Dot com. Drive home live. Sports talk that doesn't care about your feelings. This is The Drive, the triad's longest-running live sports talk show.
Back at it on the drive, right here on WSJS, where. Each week, each Wednesday, we have a segment called the Madhouse Minute, where we bring you some good racing content because we know how much you guys love racing around here in the triad. And this week, we're joined by modified driver Mason Lawson. Mason, how are we doing? Good, how are you?
I can't complain, man.
So you're 19 years old. Is that correct? Yes, sir, that's right.
So in addition to being a driver out at Bowman Gray, what's your day job? What do you do? I work for Richard Shilters Race, and I do all the suspension on both the cup cars.
Okay, um So I imagine, you know, with The passing of Kyle Bush, things have been a little bit heavy over there. What has that experience been like over at RCR right now? Yeah, things have definitely been quiet this week, and for sure it's been weird and odd. Everybody's a little bit down, but we've got to keep our spirits high and move forward. And we've got Austin Hill in the car now.
We'll give him the best car we can each week and hopefully he can do what he needs to do in the seat and Go chase some checkered flags for the team.
Now, did you ever have any type of interaction with Kyle personally? And if so, what was that like? Yeah, I've seen him a few times through the shop and we talked and He's a he was a great guy. He's not what was made out to be on T V and all the hating, all that stuff. He was really a personable and great guy.
Mm-hmm. Yeah, I I I saw um Actually, an episode that Dale Jr. did on his podcast that came out yesterday. And he was describing a conversation that he had with Kyle and the fact that, like, he is, he was kind of labeled as the villain. But He actually never really liked that label.
He didn't really like it.
So that kind of jives with the way you're. Describing him. Mason Lawson with us here on WSJS. It is the Madhouse. Minute.
So you drive the number 82 car, and I'm told you have an interesting story behind how you got your number. Yeah, so the number, everybody thinks it's I went with the 82 because I was always a fan of Tim Brown and it's right there with his number, but it's not true.
So actually the 82, I've got two grandparents that passed away that I was close to. One ohm was born in 1947 and one ohm was born in 1935.
So if you take the 47 and the 35 and you add them together, then you get the 82. I love that. I love stories like that. I'm always fascinated by how athletes or drivers get their number. Because I know a lot of times there's some sentimental reasons for that.
So that's a really cool thing. Mason Lawson with us here on WSJS. So. How did you get into racing? Because I know.
You're a rookie out at Bowman Gray specifically. You know, what was your journey like getting into racing? Yeah, so my cousin's grandpa. Puddin Swisher, he owned Modified, and so I hung out at his shop growing up and then was going to Bowman Gray since I was baby months old. And then so I just hung around it and got interested and I always wanted to do it.
And then a couple of years ago, we got the chance to go six hundred two modified racing.
So my first year I ever raced anything, I ran a six hundred two modified on the Carolina Crate Series tour. And then last year, we ran the six hundred two Series at Ace Speedway.
So that was my start in the racing. And, you know, now that you're out at Bowman Gray for the first time. You know, what's been some of the highlights of your rookie season? Because I know, I mean, we call them madhouse moments around here, like some of the correct, because I mean, it's such a high energy environment. I can't even imagine what it's like as a driver.
But what are some of the highlights in your rookie season out at Bowman Gray? Oh yeah, the fan atmosphere and just everything to go with Bowman Gray is unlike anywhere else. For sure, the highlights of my year so far is I think we've been able to put some very good qualifying times down. I think it's been impressive to some people. And then we got to get out in front and lead some laps in one of the twenty five lappers before getting spun out.
But Yeah, that's for sure been the highlight so far this year. What's the craziest thing you've seen happen out on the track so far? Oh boy. Oh, I've I've been going there a long time, so in the stands Probably when Tim Brown and Burt Myers got into it, and I think 2014, that was pretty crazy. Love it, man.
Love it.
Well, we appreciate you joining us. Mason Lawson, modified driver at Bowman Gray. Good luck to you on the rest of your rookie year, and we appreciate the time, man. Thank you. I appreciate it too.
