So that should be fun, especially when the voice of Charlotte FC and Super Met fan Will Pelagic joins us in about a half hour. But there's so much for for us to do today and we must focus on The latest? In Chapel Bill.

South Alabama quarterback. Transfer Geo Lopez. should be viewed as the Tar Heel starter Going into fall camp. Gio Lopez should be viewed as the frontrunner. to be North Carolina starter.

Against TCU. on Labor Day night. to open the season. He was announced as one of the Tar Heels' four Media Day invitees. Later this month?

In Charlotte? We will be there all three days. of ACC kickoff. That's a couple of weeks from now. It is going to be.

And for those watching on Our video streams, our various video streams, you could see.

Some of the attendees that are lined up for the Tar Heels, four players. It's GO, it's a couple of DBs, it's a wide receiver. that will be making an appearance in Charlotte. See, here's the thing. It wouldn't have been unusual.

to bring two quarterbacks. If you don't know who your starter is going to be. That happened a handful of times last year. There were a few teams that didn't want to reveal or give us an inkling on who their starter was, and they brought multiple quarterbacks to the event. You don't have to bring quarterback at all either.

Wake Forest! They're bringing DeMon Claiborne and a few others, Nick Anderson. Jake Dickert's not bringing a quarterback because he knows he's He's got a quarterback battle on his hands. Does it quite know? Who it's gonna be.

Starting for the Deeks.

So the fact that Bill Belichick in North Carolina decided We're going to bring Gio Lopez to this event and no other quarterback rather than doing an easy thing such as. Max Johnson's a vet.

Well spoken. We could just take him along with us too to throw people off the scent. It tells you Geo Lopez. Don't overthink this. He is The front runner to be North Carolina's starting quarterback.

And don't forget, he was a coveted post-spring ball transfer. Geo's not stupid. He's not going to a place when several schools were after him. that he feels he's not going to play at. This isn't to say he was given assurances.

But Geo Lopez. He's invited to the event. Gio Lopez. Transfers post-spring. The other choices would be veteran Max Johnson or the true freshman Bryce Baker.

Due to injury, Max didn't participate in the spring. He had that ugly injury. opening night against Minnesota last year. Bryce, meanwhile, he's still very green. The pride of Eastforsyth High School in Kernersville, America.

Thank you, Stephen A. Bill's first signing. As a collegiate head coach. If Geo starts the season slowly, Then you have a discussion who the number two would be. Maybe Bryce, because he has a higher...

Upside. But Gio Lopez, he should be viewed as the starting quarterback. For the best sample. of what Gio Lopez can be in college, his best work at Soal, Look no further than last September. In a three-game stretch.

He did the following Game one Put up 87 points. In a game. A football game. Tackle football. 87 points against an overwhelmed FCS team.

Then In prime time at The Rock. At App State, hung 48, three touchdowns, no turnovers. in a rout against the Mountaineers. And then the following week, went to Death Valley at night. Faced LSU 17 of 23 with the touchdown pass.

Yes, they lost the game because. It's South Alabama against LSU, but he looked pretty good, and looking the part at Tiger Stadium likely caught the attention. of Bill Belichick and Mike Lombardi.

So don't overthink this.

South Alabama, Transfer QB, Gio Lopez. He should be viewed. as the Tar Heels starter going into the year. On X at Josh Graham Show and at WSGS Radio. That's where you can watch the show in addition to listening to it.

It's where we're streaming video in addition to YouTube and Twitch. Will Dalton, the executive producer of the show, Jay Davis, writes in. LOL boy, you snuck that Orioles update into the beginning of the show. Yeah, you caught that, didn't you? Got the O's gear on.

Yeah. Yeah, you do. You're pretty fired up before the show started. Was thinking about shedding. the jersey, if the Orioles did it.

hit that eighth inning home run because We have An unwritten, unofficial rule that if the Orioles are coming off a loss. We're We're not wearing Oriole gear, or I'm not. You don't wear it anyway, but I'm not. But they did win. And who knows?

Might win a second one later today. We shall. Find out. Shifting things. Enjoy Vegas Summer League.

And Cooper flag. While you can. Vegas Summer League. Tips off tonight? And if you watch any national sport show.

They are making Cooper flag against Bronnie James seem like the Super Bowl. That's how it seems. Whoa! Can't wait. Fire it up.

No way that this isn't going to meet expectations. Cause yes, the first primetime game Is Mavs Lakers eight o'clock tonight? ESPN, Cooper Flag, Bronnie James. A matchup between two teams that, of course, were involved with the Luka Donkic trade that made. all of this possible Expect Probably.

that these teams will open up the season against each other. Can't you see that? The season tips off.

Well, it wouldn't be TNT anymore. But NBC or Amazon It's the Mavs playing the Lakers. How fun would that be? We were hanging out with Chuck Cooperstein, who's been working with the Mavs for a long time. who was in town as the Texas Sportscaster of the Year with the NSMA.

And I told him it'd be a lot of fun if the Mavericks next year or in the next couple of years played the Lakers in the playoffs. Like if you had Luca Against AD, Cooper flag. Against LeBron. Get your popcorn out. Don't think Bronny would hit the floor in that setting.

But he will be on the floor tonight. Oh boy, can't wait. The first two or three days of Summer League, that's really all you need to watch. With all due respect. W D's been consuming the California Summer League in Watching the Salt Lake City Summer League.

Had not watched a minute of any of that. Don't plan to. The first round stars. They are likely going to play two. Maybe three games?

Cooper's second game is going to be. Also on ESPN, 4 o'clock Saturday. Against the San Antonio Spurs. Fingers crossed. That Cooper plays in a third game.

That'd be Monday night against the Charlotte Hornets. But it's not just Cooper against Bronnie James tonight. Game two of the doubleheader running ESBN. You can watch. The number two and number three picks face-off.

Dylan Harper's San Antonio Spurs meeting Vijay Edgecombe's. Sixers.

Now have not watched, as mentioned, Any summer league ball, but apparently VJ Edgecombe looks really good. He's been putting up some numbers. And Would it be fair to expect Hunter Salas to be on the floor tonight for Philadelphia? Oh, yeah. Oh yeah.

Can maybe fire that up too. The hornets They open up tomorrow night on ESPN. This'll be fun. Based the Utah Jazz? You got Both teams picking in the top five, and both teams had two first-round draft picks.

So a lot of familiar names on ESPN. Tomorrow night. When Darren Bott joins us, we answer unusual questions, yes, but we also talk. Baseball. D One baseball, ACC baseball, et cetera, podcast.

Yes. There it is. Darren. Which baseball event are you more interested in this weekend? The draft, which starts Sunday, or the actual all-star festivities, the home run derby, field?

Filling out for Monday and the actual game Tuesday night. I like the All-star game a lot. It is something that, um I think I'm not alone. It's very nostalgic for me. Um It's one of the best of the all-star games among the major league sports.

It is the best. It's not close. What would even be second? Yeah. Right.

I don't know. I don't know. Um And I love the home run derby. Like. I don't know.

It doesn't change a ton from year to year, but who doesn't love seeing bombs? Do you have a rooting interest between Cullowee, North Carolina, native Cal Raleigh facing Ronald Ocuna Jr., his third go in this park or third go in the home run derby is in his home park? I think I've talked about my mantra of when going to sporting events, always root for the home team. Just like life's too short, root for the home team. Unless you've got like a deep-seated.

Like, if you're going elsewhere to watch the Orioles, you're rooting for the Orioles. But if you're going, like, You know, I've got little league work in the Detroit area. Later this summer, I'm going to go to Comerica Park. I might buy a Detroit Tigers cap just for the game because I'm going to be a rented. Tigers fan for the day.

Like, that's it.

So, that being said, Acunya's the home guy.

Well, is he? He's the home park guy. Taurali's from two hours down the road in Cullowy.

Okay, listen, like there, if you're going there. You're rooting for a Cunha. I would like, that would be cool. It would be cool to see. And we've seen it happen in guys' home parks before.

They have these awesome runs in the home run derby. The Cal Raleigh story is fantastic. But he doesn't need this home run derby for it to be fantastic. Whereas with the Braves and Acunya individually this season, it feels like, okay, this might be. As cool as it gets this season.

So, yeah, I'll pull for Acunya there. Getting to the draft. To answer the original question, though.

Sorry. I just realized I didn't do that. I love the draft and even the futures game. More than just about anything. Then let's talk about the draft because at the very top, you got.

Ethan Holliday, brother of Jackson, son of Matt. Probably going to go number one to Washington, but then again, Washington just fired their general manager less than a week before the draft. And you got these SEC fireballers. Kate Anderson, who we saw in the College World Series, throwing 100 plus. Plus, for the final two plus innings of the clinching game, Tennessee's Liam Doyle is a crazy person.

You got him. Do you, as we watched. Paul Skeens two drafts ago. We watched Chase Burns from Wake last year. Are these guys.

In a similar class, guys we're going to be talking about a year from now on Major League Rosters, the kid from LSU and Liam Doyle. I think it depends. I mean, Doyle has been. rumored at what, like number four to the Angels. That's an organization that has.

Really fast-forwarded guys through the minors.

So if Doyle goes to the Angels, He's going to be in the bigs next summer. And I have some unique perspective on that. I was there the night that Christian Moore made his debut, also from Tennessee, for the Angels. And I said, hey, is it crazy for you? I was talking to Ron Washington.

I hope he doesn't mind me saying this on the field about it. And I was like, hey, Wash, how crazy is it this guy was playing college baseball last year for the volunteers? And he said, not crazy for the Angels. It's not. I mean, we saw Campbell's Zach Netto got pulled up in the past couple of years in the same fashion.

And it was so yeah, like Doyle's got stuff. If he goes to the Angels, for sure, he's In major league play next season. Um Tate Anderson could get there. He's probably more like a two-year track. to be honest, which is kind of the norm for a really good player now.

Um I don't know that e either is Paul Skeens. I think Tennessee's number two starter is a guy named Marcus Phillips. He's going to be. Probably a late first rounder. I see him as a better pro prospect than Liam Doyle.

personally so So but they're good. Like they're good. Paul Skeens is just an impossible standard. Chase Burns, though? Is that kind of closer maybe?

Kind of. And I guess that's probably fair because Chase. Chase has Really two major league pitches right now. Right. And if he's going to be a starter at the major league level, they would like for him to develop a little bit more of a repertoire.

But the fastball and the slider are so good. That you can run him out there now and he's relatively successful. Whereas Paul Skeens had like a legitimate four-pitch mix. The second he signed a major league or a pro contract.

So, yeah, I think that's a more fair. Comparison.

So, yeah, like a fast ride through the minors is for sure possible for either of those two: Anderson or Doyle. Darren Vott's with us: D1 Baseball, ACC Baseball, et cetera, podcast.

Now it's time for us to answer unusual questions. But last week, guys, everybody made it out that I got mad at Josh and I left the press conference. That's not right. I thought it was an unusual question, and it's okay. It's time for unusual questions with Josh Graham.

I gotta go here to start. Over the weekend. Oasis got back together. I love Oasis. I experienced intense levels of FOMO.

Watching Those videos of Liam and Noel Gallinger just banging it out there and Cardiff. And it just had me thinking. If you could construct a show Like if is there a show that is the absolutely top? Of what you would want to do, regardless if they're touring currently or not. Or a band that's no longer together that you'd like to see get back together.

If Darren Vot. could go to one Show. What show would that be? Or or W D. It's a really good question.

I've checked off some bucket lists. shows in the past couple of years. I saw the Foo Fighters I saw Blink 182. Um I've seen Green Day, which actually you mentioning the Oasis reunion reminded me. Did you see the video of the Green Day concert where at the end, Billy Joe Armstrong?

Famously, regularly invites someone on stage to play. Good radiance. Yeah. When they performed that song. This past weekend.

Yeah, the individual that gets up there. it turns out, does not know how to play good riddance. on the guitar, so he just starts playing Wonder Wall. And Billy Joe gets security to get the dude off. I mean, it wasn't like a mean-spirited thing, but it was almost like laughing it off.

He was just like, come on, get this clown. Like, get him off, get him off the stage. But, like, Legendary Fan participation there. Pretty good. Yeah, I don't know.

I can't believe I'm about to say this, but. I want to know Will Dalton's answer on this question. BAHA! I mean the problem with mine is there was a time in fact I'm I may have talked about it on the show. There was a time that I wanted to see Lincoln Park.

You just saw them. But.

So there was a time that I wanted to see Lincoln Park and Because of what happened with Chester, I didn't think I would be able to. Ah, right. And that would be.

So you just checked one off. That's great. I just checked that off, and it was a great show. I loved every minute of it. It was a lot of fun.

This is why I was fascinated by your answer now. It's because I knew you love Lincoln Park and just saw them. I'd love to know what Will Dalton's answer is now. To that question, I mean, it's not possible, but I would have I would love to be able to go back in time and see the Jackson 5. Oh, I thought you were about to say you would love to go back in time and see Lincoln Park with Chester.

I mean, that would be cool too. But yeah, I mean, Jackson. That's the only other one I can think of where it's like. That's the only one you can think of? Going back in time and seeing Michael Jackson and the Jackson kids together?

That's all you could think of?

Well, yeah, because any other band, like. I feel like I could go see. Like, I could probably go see Nickelback if they. Then that's the answer. But don't they still, like, aren't they still together?

I didn't say they had to be broken up.

Okay, then Nickelback's. Nickelback is the answer. That's an incredible answer to the question, though. And it's very relevant to this segment. Look at this photography!

Sometimes you just, as a tastemaker of doing this show, know when something's going to deliver, and that delivered, Derek. It delivered. It's better than Dua Lipa, which I thought was the answer. She's an artist, not a band. I said artists.

You just don't listen. I love WD. More than anything, almost. My wife, Daniel, Willow the Dog, W.D. High up on the list.

Um. Did you actually assemble an answer though? You were trying to work it out. D do you have an answer? Uh I'd love to see The killers.

A big one for me was McCartney. And I saw McCartney. It'd be great if you could get the McCartney and Ringo together. That would be pretty cool. But since I've seen McCartney, the answer probably, again, is the Killers, or I know.

I'm not supposed to say this? But if I'm guaranteed being the tastemaker. That it's not going to be any music that's come out in the last couple of years. Kanye? Like if I know Kanye's playing the hits...

Are you kidding? If you're just getting the hits out of Kanye. Then I If he's not allowed to speak other than saying, singing the songs. Kind of blank. Boom.

That's it. That's it. No commentary. Don't need anything that's come out in the last two years. At least.

Kanye. Like, it's like... I'm not. Where's Gary Hahn? Just get me out of this one completely.

But that is the answer. What is your unusual question, Darren Bot? I do want to mention, I have no idea if he's capable of playing music anymore. Neil Young would be fantastic. He is, actually.

I mean, I don't know if he's still playing. I think he is. I don't like The idea of going to see dudes past their prime physically to play these shows, I would still go see Neil Young.

So, maybe that's one I need to work on. Anyways, my question. Over the past week or so, I've been in Southern California with my girlfriends, family.

Something of a vacation spanning through July 4th. It was great. It was awesome. Um, At one point, riding with It was The her two parents My girlfriend and me riding the same vehicle. Her dad ran over something.

that slashed The back driver side tire. Mm-hmm. This is the second time I've ever been in SoCal with her family. I have not really spent a ton of time with her parents. Had to help her dad change attire.

On their Toyota Highlanders. Wow, what a way to try to leave an impression. On the side of the road in San Bernardino, California. Wow. Wow.

So I'm curious if you, with Sarah Bradford's family, your in-laws, have like a Like a seal of approval moment. Um I don't know if it's a seal of approval moment. But I remember the first time I met her parents. I didn't know anything about them. I didn't know.

Like Which side Of the political aisle, they stood. You know me, I'm not a very political person at all.

So we're at dinner, and at this time, Colin Kaepernick is a talking point. It's a conversation. And since I'm in sports, I get asked by her dad, what do you think about Colin Kaepernick? Of course. And this is where my communications degree was put.

And to really, really good use. I think I said something like, Well, you know, I met Colin when he was with the 49ers, and when I dealt with him during that controversy, he was great with me and really respectful. And I also have my dad's a police officer, and a lot of people in my family are police officers.

So I have great respect for law enforcement. And, you know, I just always look at myself as somebody that could see like both sides of it and completely understand.

Something of that sort. And He heard what he agreed with, whatever that would have been. And I never re-approached. That conversation again. I don't know if that was a seal of approval, but I certainly had a chance to strike out early on.

And I did not, I don't think. That's good.

So W D, do you have a good answer for this? I mean, have you gotten to the point where you're meeting parents? It's been a while, but yeah, I've gotten to the point where I've met parents. Um. I had a particular girlfriend when I lived in Raleigh at the time.

and was a DG show intern at at this particular time. And her dad was. Oh, you were.

Sorry, hold on. You were an intern. Not her. Completely. I thought maybe some things flid right by my nose.

No. No, that's no. Uh her dad was a big caniac. Big Keynes fan. And when he found out what I was pursuing, what I was doing, and the fact that, you know.

Was going to a fair amount of Kane's games because DG would take us down there a good amount. That was a pretty good stamp of approval that I got.

Solid. Nice work. What's your unusual question, WD? By the way, did we get the tire changed okay? Did you pass the test?

We were in a hurry.

So, you know, my girlfriend's doing a residency at Duke. She is in a mode now where she's kind of. Interviewing, doing informal interviews at hospitals, and she wants to go back to Southern California.

So, we were on our way to drop her off to do one of those.

So, like, there was a little bit of a time crunch. Man, we were back on the road in 15 minutes, got her there. Wow, they had the tire replaced when they, you know, after they got back home that night. No, it was good. WD, what have you found to be the best use or your favorite use of AI so far?

Oh, I thought it was going to be something like more food-related or dramatic because the music. Died right as you started delivering it. And it kind of came off as the radio equivalent of the awkward moment when you're talking about somebody in the loud bar, but then the music dies down in the middle of the sentence. And you're like, oh, everybody can hear what I now everybody's looking at me. Whoa, sorry, I didn't mean for that to be louder.

Can we get this music back up? Maybe Mr. Bright side, one more time. Favorite use of AI so far? I'll be honest, I'm just the type of guy that Well You know.

Fire up. Cooper flag, Charlotte Hornet type of photos or. Taylor Swift in a UNC basketball uniform when we did that song. That's probably the best use of it. Like these comically, obviously AI photos, those are the ones that I seem to enjoy.

I tell you what it's not. It's not. the thing that you see on social media all the time where they have like Cartoon characters singing pop songs. Yeah, so out on that. It's bad.

AI music is the worst. AI music, whether it's like Toad from Super Mario Brothers singing Sia. Or um You know, the president singing Taylor Swift. Like, the fact that part of the algorithm includes the original person singing the song, and there's not a, like, it's not a scientific constant, it's not a sterile version of that song. It always just leads you to hearing the original song.

Whether it's altered, sure, and it kind of sounds like, but it's so uncannily. artificial, I'm out on it. W D?

So, I'm kind of with you on this when it comes to like making just obscure pictures of things and just seeing what. This thing spits out like I told it to make Darth Vader with a piece of pizza, and it did it. Why did you do that? I just wanted to see what would happen if it would do it, and it did. But.

in in terms of a practical use for it and a u a useful I've asked it to, like, hey, like, I want to work out my chest today and I want some, like, can you give me a workout to follow? Because I like to follow a workout and have a plan. Buddy, have you seen the AI Google overviews? You're probably getting bad advice. No, I use chat GPT.

Okay. All right.

Well, I'm saying that the search engine aspect of AI is not. By any means, foolproof. I just don't want you trying to toss up a barbell and catch it because.

something nefarious told you to. This was a nice distraction from Orioles baseball. Darren Bott, D1 baseball, ACC baseball, et cetera. Good to see you. And we'll talk to you next week.

Alright, see you guys. There are a lot of so-called sports talk guys who don't do anything but flap their gums. Yeah, exactly. But not Josh Graham. He doesn't even like gum or flapping for that matter.

He's so talented. You're on the drive with Josh Graham. It's not yet official. that Patrick Ajumang The Budding superstar American national team forward from Charwood FC. is being transferred to Darby County FC.

In Europe?

So Charlotte FC Head coach. manager, head coach. Dean Smith. was just meeting with reporters in the last hour. And Seems pretty sour.

about the whole situation. W D As we speak out. As I speak. Is combing through some of that sound. We got Will Pelagic that's going to join us in about 15 minutes, who was in the room listening to what Dean had to say.

If anything stands out from that sound, WD, let me know. We can get to that in just a second to set up our conversation. with Willie P in a bit. Today is Thursday, July the 10th. Three weeks.

On the dot. From today. We'll be The final day. of July. It will be Thursday, July the 31st.

And on several counts, or more specifically, a couple of counts. It'll be a day worth circling. Number one. It's The Major League Baseball Trade Deadline And W D? The Baltimore Orioles They seem ready to have a fire sale.

Why should you care?

Well, if your team's better than my team, and odds are they are, the Orioles. Their last place in the AL East. Only two teams. Are worse in the American League than Baltimore is. They are the most disappointing team in baseball, a team that won more games than anybody in the American League the previous two seasons and now probably not going to make the playoffs.

Even with today's win 41 and 50. If you are a good baseball team. Odds are your team's GM is calling Baltimore about the players that they have. And this morning, three weeks ahead of the deadline. The Orioles have already made a trade.

They traded their setup man reliever. Brian Baker. And not only did they trade him, they traded him to another AL East team. See I'm an Orioles, an Orioles group chat that follows every transaction that the Orioles make. Uh make very closely.

We've been discussing all the possibilities if they sell to the type of guys that could trade. Brian Baker's name didn't come up. Or if he did, it's like the sixth or seventh name down the line that you're bringing up that might be traded.

So the fact that three weeks before the deadline, this guy's already been moved. tells you it should tip off to you, yeah. This team is about to go on a fire sale. And there is no other team with the capability to sell. such as Baltimore.

Again, if you're not an Orioles fan, this is the part that you should care about. When you look How about we just look at things broadly in baseball? Will. Would you say if you are less than four and a half games out, within four and a half games, of a wild card spot that you are in contention to make the playoffs? Absolutely.

Take a guess.

So the Orioles obviously are not in that position. Take a guess out of the other 29 teams in baseball. How many teams right now on July the 10th? Are within four and a half games of a wild card spot or are currently in a playoff position? out of the 29.

I'll guess. Maybe eight, eight, nine? W D. 12 teams make the playoffs.

So you have 12 teams that are in playoff position already.

So it can't be less than twelve. Were we talking about just the wildcard position? No, no, no, no, no. I said how many teams in baseball out of the twenty nine other teams are either in a playoff position or within four and a half games of a wildcard spot? Which is to say, in the mix.

In that case, I'll say I'll say maybe sixteen or seventeen teams. That would be a fair guess. The answer is 20. The answer is 22. Yeah.

Let me make sure we got our math right. Carry the two. Yeah. 22 Of the other 29 teams in baseball, Will. all feel like they can make the playoffs right now.

And When you look at the other teams that are not in that position, Will. It's the White Sox. It's the Rockies. It's the athletics. who have very good young players and other than Brent Rooker is going to be in the home run derby.

Don't really have players that you're really looking to add or that they're looking to move. This is to say, if you are a contender, Will, say you're Yankees. How many players from the Rockies and White Sox do you want? Off the top of my head, none of them! None.

No, they're awful. They're not good. The Orioles We're supposed to be good. There are a lot of players on that team. that good teams are going to want, including A player that will be starting the all-star game.

Ryan O'Hearn is the starting DH He is available. He is on the trading block.

So That's the Orioles. The Orioles are the team that every team in baseball is calling. To try to make deals, it is a seller's market.

So they're going to sell high. And then turn the page to 2026. and try to win there. Have you found anything good on the... Dean Smith, Sharwood, FC Front.

Yeah, I thought this was pretty good. Dean Smith has had.

some conversation with uh Patrick about whether or not he should go and You had some thoughts on that. I've had the conversation with Patrick and, you know, my answer was I don't think he should. I want him to stay here, but, you know, it's up to the player to make that decision. And as long as he's the player he's making the decision and not his representative, because I did remind Patrick that remember, you know, agents work for you, not the other way round. There you go.

Yeah. That sounded Cheeky. It did, didn't it? Usually A British accent will make something sound. It will add cushion to something.

Thus, if somebody were to say something really mean, but it's in a British accent. It doesn't sound as mean. That sounded passive-aggressive and cheeky. But With the British accent. Imagine if it didn't if he wasn't British Yeah.

How that would come off. Like imagine an NBA GM. Or an NBA coach saying, yeah, I talked to that player. And uh I told him I don't think he should go. And I told him that, you know, I hope you're making the decision and not your representatives.

They work for you. Woof! Crikey. No, that's Australian. Oh, that's great.

That's excellent.

So Wilpalogic will be joining us. In just a bit, we'll get to that. Certainly. Also three weeks from today, Will. It is the triad's biggest.

annual party The Wyndham Championship will be starting At Sedgefield. What? And looking ahead three weeks to the Wyndham, there are some big names that could wind up in Greensboro. Based on the FedEx Cup playoff standings right now, There are potential first timers. That could.

Potentially. be playing the event. Only the top 70, remember. Make the playoffs. Make the FedEx Cup playoffs.

And Sedgefield's the last regular season event. This year it's coming. It's going to be happening the week. After or two weeks after the Open Championship, you have the Scottish Open this week, and then it's the Open Championship. Uh the fourth and final major of the year in golf.

But looking at the standings Xander Shaffley. He's never played The Wyndham Championship, he's ranked 57th. Got to make sure you're in the top 70 to be in the playoffs. Tony Finau, where he be now? Fifty fifth?

Tony Finau is a top 50 player in the world. Xander Shafley is the third ranked player in the world. Neither has played Greensboro before. How cool would it be if they were at Sedgefield? There just might be two recent U.S.

Open winners there. Matt Fitzgerald. Seventy-third. outside the cut line right now. Wyndham Clark.

seventy ninth. Fitzgerald finished. 36th? The one time he played the Wyndham Championship, that was in 2018, seven years ago. Wyndham Clark, you would expect that Wyndham Clark would be at the Wyndham Championship every year.

Yeah, I'd I'd want to win that one more than any. He hasn't played the Wyndham Championship since 2021. And he, frankly, despite the name of the tournament, Not too fond of Sedgefield. Here are how his three starts have gone. at the Wyndham.

Two missed cuts and I did not finish due to injury. Not great. Also worth noting, U.S. Open Champ this year. JJ Spawn finished tied for third.

at the Wyndham last year. There it there are um Normal. Regular uh regulars that love Sedgefield that are having good years. Russell Henley tends to play the course really well. Keegan Bradley, they're both currently ranked top ten in the World Golf Rankings.

Sung J M, Brian Harmon, check those boxes too, both top twenty five players. You got the local kids like JT Poston and Cam Young and Webb Simpson, those guys that generally are at Sedgefield every year. It's shaping up to be a really good field. How many clips do you have of Dean Smith? Anything else good? Or was that The best of the lot. I got about four clips.

Okay, we're gonna come through that. There are new developments here. This is all happening in real time. It's live action, Tracy. And it's regarding...

Patrick Adjumong. Will he stay, will he go? Drama with the club. Dean Smith, the manager, making comments. Will Pelagic was in the room, voiced the Charlotte FC.

He's going to join us, provide some more clarity on the situation. Maybe we'll have more sound as well.

Next on the drive. It's the drive with John A scrail. W A S J S Okay, let me set the scene here. Before we welcome Wilpilagic, voice of Charlotte FC, to the show. The Gold Cup just finished up.

The last major competition for the United States national team until the World Cup that they're hosting next year. The first match is on June the 12th. And during the tournament, Patrick Adjumang of Charwood FC. Has become a bit of a polarizing player to the point where we played some sound yesterday, landed Donovan and. Tim Howard, U.S.

soccer legends, are standing up for the guy. They feel like he gets too much, he's received too much grief. As a 24-year-old player that has scored already five goals in a short period of time internationally, So we're thinking, oh, this is all good news for Charlotte FC. And then we get the reports of Darby County SC, which isn't in the EPL. They're one leg below the EPL.

in uh the UK. Reportedly Acquiring Patrick Ajiman, eight million dollar transfer fee and Then we see Will Pelagic, who joins us now, updating us yesterday that he's At training, and then there's a medical where essentially a physical. where that's a multi-pronged process of trying to go through things. And then Dean Smith in the last hour or so. Met with reporters.

We played some of the sound that Willie P was kind enough to send our way. WD says he's got even more of it to play, where apparently. Dean Smith isn't sold that this is going to go through, which would be news to a lot of people in the UK. I'll be surprised if he goes to the championship in in the UK, as has been reported, but that's just my own personal view. Um I think a team I think you know, the championship.

Is not too much different from the I don't think this is a major league over here that you're going to do to a second league in the UK. There's not gonna be loads of time for development because they play Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday, Tuesday. There's forty-six games a season. I think For him to remain one of the big players for the US national team as well, you know, probably. stay here would be better.

So Two days ago, this seemed like a done deal with the reporting, or this might have been. Yeah, a few days ago, and then you had him show up. To Charlotte FC's training, and it seemed that it was in doubt. And then there was reporting after that that said, Oh, this is just part of a medical. It seems like it's a done deal.

And now Dean Smith is saying these things where he says he'd be surprised if it happens, saying that the league he's going to isn't all that much better than MLS. Will Pelagic. Just how fluid of a situation do you believe this is? That's difficult to say, Josh, because I think a lot of this, and I want to be very, very clear. I don't think Dean's beef is with the player.

I think, and he mentioned this in a couple of different instances. He thinks that this is something that's being pushed by Pat's representation. And Pat's representation's. Yeah. Their job A lot of times, it is to get Pat the most money.

And this comes down to the fact, and it's been reported that, you know. That the deal that Patrick was offered from Cheryl LFC is below the market value of where he should be. I don't know that 100% for a fact, but there's been some reports out there that it was significantly lower than he would make at Derby and lower than even people on his own team would make. I don't know that to be true, first off. But second off, If what Dean is basically saying is this is a money move, then he thinks that, that's the wrong move from what he's what he's saying.

He thinks that not all EFL championship teams are created equal. Darby County, for context, Needed a win on the last day of the year a year ago at the end of the last EFL championship season to stay in the championship. They were in danger of being relegated to League One.

Now, to give them credit, they have. Increase their investment. They got a brand new head coach who's got Premier League experience in Tony Eustace.

So it's not like they're not trying to make moves to be a part of that upper echelon of the championship and eventually earn promotion back to the Premier League. But it's one thing to be joining a team like Ipswich, who got recently relegated and is probably going to be contending for promotion once again. It's different than doing a team of that ilk or to join a team one of the top leagues in another country. Like I know Gank was out there possibly looking at them. I don't know if they were able to max the same kind of money that Darby was, but.

I guess what I think Dean is trying to say is that If that's the best deal. then you're only doing it for money and not necessarily a step up in competition. We've been doing this segment. During the Charlotte FC seasons, the last few years now. And I feel a lot of people have learned a lot about MLS and soccer, just how things work through.

This segment and then following the team. You could listen to Charlotte FC facing New York City FC, my wife going to her first ever match on Saturday. Excited to do so this week. And thus, when certain things happen, we learn about how the postseason works with Charlotte FC being a part of it the last couple of years. How you might pull the trigger on getting rid of a manager, bringing another one in.

There are a lot of things we've learned in a short period of time. This is the first time we've really learned at a high level about. Transfer fees and how those dynamics work. What is a misperception people might have about? transfers and what Patrick Ajuman is going through right now.

Well I'll say this much. It can be hurtful for Charlotte FC to lose the player. But the kind of business that they're doing By selling Patrick Ajuman for the fee that they are reported to get, which again is in the neighborhood of $8 million, is an incredible amount of business financially for the club because that is money that not only will give them some salary cap relief, but is also some money that will allow them to spend money on other players directly with the $3 million of general allocation money that they'll get from this sale, but also just cold hard cash that they can invest on trying to get a bona fide player. And let me hold you up for one second. Let me hold you up for one second because I think it's an important point to bring up.

When you say it's good business that they can then invest. It's not because David Tepper's hurting for money that, oh, no, he has 8 million. No, there are specific rules built in that you have certain advantages if your players are acquired at a certain cost, correct? Of course, of course. And again, you can only spend.

Unlimited funds on three different players, up to three players for a league. And Unfortunately, given where Charlotte was, they had to basically go up against the cap to account for some of their injuries this season. The Jaquil Marshall Ruddy signing basically put them out of cap.

So they've needed to actually shed some roster spaces. They've already taken two players off the roster, and Jiao Pedro and Yuri Tavares. One was not even playing with our club, and the other, I think, had maybe logged a couple of games, five games this season.

So there was always going to be outgoings from Charlotte's perspective, but it comes down to the fact that. In order to get Opportunities to add, sometimes you have to subtract. And it's not to say that they wanted to necessarily subtract Pat, but. This allows them the opportunity to go out and get a DP nine striker, a bona fide goal scorer, which again, and I and I hate contextualizing it in this fashion because it means like I'm saying something against Pat. But if there was a knock against Patrick Ajuman, Is that his productivity was not always consistent?

And you could say that for his. Club career, and you can say that for his very limited international career, too, as well, is that. While he creates opportunities and he's very, very dangerous from a build standpoint, and there's a lot of hope behind him. He's a very young 24-year-old. He's not the same 24 years old like a European would be, but he's still very, very raw.

And To wait on that productivity to rise might not be something that if Charlotte wants to win, they can afford to necessarily be a part of. They have not had a bona fide. Contend for the golden boot goal score in their entire history of the club. And if they get this type of sale for Patrick Ajuman, they can use that money to go get that player in this upcoming window, which begins two weeks from today. Will Pelagic with us?

You could listen to him and Anna Witte on Saturday as Charlotte faces New York City FC. Let's actually look at this and use that as a segue to the American national team. They lose their gold cup final. And my immediate reaction was. We should be feeling somewhat optimistic about American soccer, considering they got out of the group in 2022 after missing the World Cup in 2018.

And you didn't have a lot of regulars out there in the Gold Cup, yet you still are leading one to nothing against a Mexican national team that has a lot more of their regulars out there, it seems. But really, the feeling, and you're hosting the World Cup, so you're gonna get a favorable draw, you would think, in that 1A draw, whenever we learn that later this year. But yeah, it's it doesn't There doesn't seem to be that much optimism. And I think for me, and I don't know how you feel. The root of it is lack of identity, where it feels like last year you and I were talking about the management change.

And what was likely to come from it was, well, a more aggressive tactic, a more creative tactic coach in an approach and a mentality. And we didn't really see that against Costa Rica. We certainly didn't see it when they went up to nothing against Guatemala and then just sat on it and nearly allowed Guatemala to come back and tie the game in the final 15 minutes. They ended up getting a goal and then nearly had the second. And they had a similar strategy, it seemed, after scoring five minutes in against Mexico and then sitting on it and allowing the Mexicans to dominate for the rest of that match.

So I don't know what the identity of this team is, is my problem. I don't know what our strengths are. I don't know what our style is intending to be. That's the root of my. Um My my my lack of optimism.

As it stands, how do you see it?

Well, the reason why I don't think you see a lot of optimism is because. Number one, the absences and how the players who were part of this. tournament Fit in with those players who are not here and how. Uh Mauricio Puccettino. Thinks that those pieces fit together.

I think the reason you're saying that is because we didn't really learn anything. And the next competitive match, the next non-friendly match that the United States will play. Is the first game of the World Cup. That's the next competitive match. They will be friendlies in September.

There'll be friendlies leading up to the World Cup, but there are no World Cup qualifiers, and there are no games that have any real juice in them other than to. Have Mauricio Pochettino be in the lab, try different lineups, and do these different things. And I think part of the reason why this disappointment is because the teams they beat. They are significantly better than they are not, they didn't beat anybody in the tournament that would be a threat to them in a World Cup. group stage.

The teams they lost to, two in the pre lead up to the to the gold cup and the one in the final Those are teams that are on the caliber of level that they're probably going to see in the World Cup, even with an expanded field. And so that's the part that I think is most discouraging. And again, We have to take into account, this isn't the full squad. You didn't have your two top strikers. You didn't have Pulissic, you didn't have Timothy Way, you didn't have Anthony Robinson, Sir Junior Desk, and go on and on down the list of players that you would have loved to have in this tournament.

And I think that there are some players who differentiated themselves: Diego Luna, Patrick Ajuman, Chris Richards, and the like. I'm not saying that there weren't positives that were gained, but. I don't think you really know how Mauricio Puccutino really feels about where this squad is and how he feels about employing this squad. And you also don't know how the full squad stacks up against the rest of the world's best. And I don't know if we'll even know that before they actually take the field next summer.

Sorry about what Gunnar Henderson did to that baseball an hour ago, by the way. Can we talk about this, by the way? Like, I don't like playing the Orioles every year. Like, I don't, I don't, I don't need to have this. Really?

Rob Manfred has committed a lot of sins as commissioner. The balanced schedule being, I think, the most grievous among them. I want to play the Orioles. I like it. I don't.

I don't want to see the Sacramento Athletics. I don't want to see the Tampa Bay Rays. I want more games against my divisional opponents because those games are the ones that matter. And he has de-emphasized what it means to win your division, which is like. Just the root of enjoying baseball.

Again, I know divisional play has only been in use. Since 1969.

So it's not like we've completely eradicated 125 years of baseball history. But, like, I'm sorry. I I don't need constant interleague play. I don't need to see Six games against the Kansas City Royals and Baltimore Orioles before the All-Star break. The Mets don't play a divisional opponent in the last two, three weeks of the season.

They didn't play the Atlanta Braves. Can you believe this? They did not play the Atlanta Braves before Memorial Day. Hmm. But and under and how does that make any sense?

It's not your fault. Gunner Himmler. No, I would have given you this random if they won. I really would, because that's like, I really don't care. 5'10 first pitch for game three of a rubber match.

Will Pilato. God bless it. You and Grace Grill can clap with each other. You guys can do that together. The Baltimore fan and the pseudo-Baltimore fan, who is still obviously hiding all of her Yankee gear.

Shout out to Grace. She's better than most of us. Very, very good friend of mine. Not saying anything bad about her. Just angry.

You shouldn't.

Well, Pologic, you should be. We'll talk to you later, and we'll see you on Saturday night, my wife included. Thanks for doing this. I hope you guys have a fun time at the soccer stadium. Oh, welcome back to the Happy Circle.

The drive with Josh Graham. I was thinking about Hayes Permar last week. near the hotel bar. At the Grand Over Resort in Greensboro, because they still have that piano sitting there. And there was an image about a dozen years ago that is seared in my mind.

of Hayes being shirtless at ACC football kickoff. And Larry Fedora walking by and witnessing it, maybe, or seeing it on social media, and early the next morning giving you your props. Is that how it went? You're on mute, Hayes Permar.

Now I think we now we have you.

Now we don't. Had. Had you a second ago. No, we don't.

Now we have you. There we go. What's up?

Sorry about that.

Sorry, sorry. Yes, Fedora came by, and I think he was like, I need to party with you more. Like, it was something along those lines. I need to hang out with you at night. The real teller was, though.

You know, people claim not to be online at all times, or I barely even look at it, especially at that time, Twitter was still, you know, who knows what it's, you know, if it's okay to be on. That picture went up. At like two or three in the morning, I don't know, sometime in the middle of the night. And there were a lot of people that came by. I was like, I just happened to be, I woke up and was going to the bathroom, and I looked at it, like, there's a lot of people on their phone in the middle of the night.

So if you ever think you're the weirdo who's on their phone in the middle of the night, there's a lot of other people on there too. I use that as a segue to say that you know the lay of the land at ACC Football Media Days. And two weeks from now, we're going to be there for three days. And for the first time, Bill Belichick is going to be At ACC kickoff. Just got a message, by the way, that there's...

We we have been told We have a very strong chance of having Bill Belichick on the show. Don't know if that means Radio Row or some other way that we'll figure it out.

So it's confirmed he definitely will be there. Bill is expected to be there, is what we learned. For the purpose of this conversation, let's assume that Bill's going to be there. How is he going to do in that ecosystem? What most interests you?

Um I don't know.

Somebody will go with, does he make a move for barbecue? Does he go for the Chick-fil-A snack or the ice cream snack? What's he eating? What cultural things is he interacting with? Is Jordan there?

Uh no. No way. No way. I think they've wised up and been like, let's limit her part of the story. Will she be in Charlotte?

Very possibly. Will she be Visible by you clowns? No, absolutely not. She's going to be hanging out at Graham Street Pub, like on the rooftop bar, like a few blocks from where we're at, as this is all happening. I'm I mean I'm I'm thinking of like a Toby Keith Sewing of my head, like I'm not as good as I once was, but like, put me down there at ACC Media and tell me Jordan's in town, and I will find a way to like get her a message of where we're going to be.

Uh, you know, just to like, I mean, I know Bill's not coming, but hey, if you want to come hang out, the local media is way chiller than national. Come meet some folks. Um, I'd like to think that I could uh could make that move. We'll see. You got to figure out a way to be there the day that Bill's there.

Just do it. I just think here.

So, here's my thing: I think he is back to understanding that, like, yeah, being as boring as possible is what plays well. And so, I think. To to your to your point of you saying We're going to know exactly what shows he's going on and not going on, right? And I'm not saying that whether it's you or Adam Gold or Obius and Julio, I'm not saying people are just going to lob softballs, but nobody's going to be disrespectful. You know what I mean?

Even if you try and ask, you do a great job of asking sometimes the question that everyone sitting at home wants asked, but nobody seems fit to because they're scared of the person answering the question. But usually that person's like, you know what? I expected this question because it's the one on everyone's mind. Seriously, you do a great job, but you're not gonna be disrespectful, right? And so I don't mean you're gonna kiss his butt.

but you're not gonna like try and clown him or gotcha him or whatever. And anything that he feels like, if you try and ask. A Jordan question, or even not Jordan, just a more funny, open up a little bit to us question, he's going to be prepared to direct it and be like, you know, here's my thing. There are so many things that you could ask Bill Belichick. Asking him questions that he doesn't want to answer just seems like such a waste of time.

Like, I just, there are a million questions coming at the top of my head right now. I'd love for him to tell me stories about.

Okay. Film room sessions ahead of Super Bowl 38 against the Panthers. I'd love for him to give me breakdowns on that. I'm sure if I asked him about Julius Peppers, he'd go on for five minutes, and that'd be good actually. That's a great question.

And if you ask those, people are going to say, oh, you're soft. You didn't ask Bill Belichick. What do you want me to ask? Oh, dude, no, no, I know you. I'm not calling you soft.

That's what I would say to you. People will do that. And A, there's people who don't understand the role of the job. Like, this is not the. If you have some great sit-down hour-long thing, then maybe you get into some things with them, but also, like, this is ACC kickoff.

There's an understanding of what we're here about. Yes, I think that is a perfectly regional football knowledge question that is a little bit beyond what do you think about your upcoming schedule, or what do you think about your recruiting class? Like, yeah, I think that's great, but also it's not going to try and be some like. I'm trying to get a gotcha moment with Bill Belichick and get him to either be mad or snip at me or talk about his girlfriend or ask about. Robert Kraft or something like that, you know?

I'll break some news that we just learned in the last 24 hours. We will that week be visiting with Frank Reich, Ron Rivera, and Dave Canalis. Three Carolina Panthers head coaches. At ACC get go.

So that will be all be in Charlotte? Yeah, Frank Reich, the head coach of the Stanford Cardinal. Ron Rivera, the GM of the Cowbears. Oh, God. I didn't even think about it like that.

See? Frank Rag, I almost forgot he was the favorite jug. See, now you understand the game. We got to be ahead of the game here. Let's.

This is another game that we're playing. Speaking of games, Haze Permar. It is we are in the middle of summer. And you need to grade what W D has highlighted as songs that are starting to be deemed Songs of the summer. You got to grade these.

Let us know if they're any good. I need some help with this because I don't want to turn into Josh Goodson, who basically has said Desposito has been the song of this. His theory is there's not a song of every summer. It's the song of this summer has got to knock off. Whatever came before it, or the other one just rained.

Gotta win the belt.

So he's got Desmosito still in the sky. Wow. Song of the summer 2025.

Okay, it's time for Skipser Plays with Hayes. Hayes Permar is somewhat of a Renaissance man, an expert in the finer things, but he hangs his hat on music. Today Hayes will decide if this music is smash or trash. Glows or blows. It's time for skips or plays with Hayes.

RIP Smash Bounce.

Alright, WD, what is the first air quote song of the summer that Hayes gets to grade?

Alright, so Benson Boone. Has been pretty hot for the last little bit. Oh, the guy who has the Yellow figs that I love That. That guy. That guy who did the flip.

I'm kidding. I'm kidding. At the graveyard. Let's see what Hayes thinks of mystical magical.

Sounds like Harry Style a little bit. I didn't want to, but I started grooving to it. Like, even when he first started singing mystical, I was like, like, this guy's songs, y'all sound the same. I don't like people who write to their own style, and that's what this guy seems to do. Like, Imagine Dragons, like, they're trying to write Arena Rock.

But don't pull that back up. I think I wanna hear that. I sense a play coming. Yep, you know what? If that comes onto the pool, I'm not unhappy.

That's a play. Yep. Here. Pace permanent. Mystical Magical.

That's a play. We're off to a good start. What's the next one? All right, Morgan Wallen. Mm.

Got some stuff going on. I'm the problem. This is on his new album. I guess I'm the problem. And your mess never do no wrong if I'm so awful.

Then why'd you stick around this long and never fix the whiskey? He's the it guy in country right now, right? Yeah, I know he is. We're not looking at me. I've had some tunes of his I've liked.

What Seven Summers, great song. I know that's his older stuff, but I'm just trying to let the people know that I'm not a hater. I'm open-minded. He does have good songs. This sounds like a Taylor Swift song.

It sounds like somebody told him like Hey, break up songs could sell both ways, but like, uh...

Sounds like a Taylor Swift song. You gotta be yourself. Doesn't sound like Morgan blowing up skipping. All right, we got one hit. Wow.

One pass. I'm not hating Taylor Swift by saying it sounds like a Taylor Swift song. Sure. Taylor Swift sounds great singing a Taylor Swift song. Morgan Wallace.

Sing Morgan Wallet songs. That sounds like a Taylor Swift song.

Okay. What are we closing with? All right.

I think this is going to be a good one. Espresso was the song of the summer last year by Sabrina Carpenter. Can it be dethroned? Let's see if man-child can get the job done. Oh, another one of hers.

I hope this is clean. It is. Want to run in the same woman be never heard of self-care. Have your brain just ain't fair. All right, a couple things.

Uh, this is gonna be too much break. There's more breakdown than you want, but she also sounds like she's writing to like. A certain style, I don't know, and like this one feels like it's like formulaic and doesn't work and. And this is true of a lot of music. It feels like she's trying to pre-write in The memes or the or the TikTok trends.

Like, and you've seen the stupid. Whatever. Like, you know, it's like. Are you writing a song, or are you writing a TikTok trend? And I'm an old man, and I love TikTok, but I don't like music that's written for TikTok trends.

So, look, I'm a huge Kabrina Carpenter. I'll watch every one of her freaky positions. You know, I'm in. I'm here for it. And I'm not doing any of these top espresso for the summers.

They're like, don't, again, I'm not a Sabrina hater, but I am skipping this tune. Get it out of here. Hate it. That might be the funniest thing that anyone said the entire show. And I don't know if it'll be top.

No, no, no. WD just jumping in. You won't ask Bill Bell check about it. W D. Hey, oh, no, no.

Oh, no, I got this. I know you gotta go.

Sorry. Ask him what his favorite position is. No, yes, you gotta be like, hey man, you're really good. Here it is. Dude, here's the question.

Hey, we've seen you gotta do the research to put it in there. We've seen you exploit the rule book with players in different places, you know, whatever. Like, do you have any like. Freaky positions that, like, you're like in the college rule book, that you're the sidelines. You gotta ask Bill Belichick about freaky positions.

That is it. You know, I'm right. You know, I'm right. That is a good idea. But what I was going to say was the funny thing that was said that I think you missed was WD's slight interjection there, where he said.

Have you tried this one? Yeah. Hey, Servar. We love you. Oh, that's a video.

We're going to make that a video. I'm going to do an Abelijack video with freaky positions. It's done. It's done. We'll see you.

Bye.
