And we do welcome you to the CNC Auto Show. I'm your host, Aaron Clemis, and here with two co-hosts, Jamie Bridges, and also Charles is here with us today. Thank you for having me. Charles, welcome back. You've been with us several times and always give a good bit.
And Jamie is the main co-host. Yeah, we kind of host this thing together, keep everything rolling. We talk about cars. We talk about anything to do with transportation. We have some fun.
Throw a tech tip or quiz around every now and then, and we have some good times. One of the things we'll be talking about today, along with answering those automotive questions that we love to answer, we will also be giving a few little back-to-school safety tips. Most in most areas, people are going back to school. Of course, some school zones. Have it set up to where you almost go all year.
You just take the breaks, more breaks in between. But traditionally, people take most of the summer off, and that's what a lot of kids did. But it's getting time to go back to school. Yeah, it's that time again. Yeah, so we'll be giving a few tips on that and a few other things.
Now, of course, one of the things we always like to do is toss a Tech Tip quiz out there. And I guess that would be a good time for us to go ahead and do that. And the winner will win the coveted water bottle that changes colors along with all the little other paraphernalia that goes along with that.
So be prepared to win. Here's a question. Cindy has two kids. One is in the third grade, and the other is in the fifth grade. She was planning to take her kids to school, which was about 25 minutes each way.
She was listening to this show on facebook.com forward slash CC Auto Show, and she heard the answer to this tech tip quiz. That's pretty deep now.
So told her heard the answer to this tech tip quiz about doing something with her car that saved at least $25 a week. And that's over $100 a month. That adds up. Yeah, it does. Yeah.
So she saved some money. What did she do? And if you know the answer to that, you give us a call. And again, the number 800-224-9090.
Now, you can use that same number to ask your automotive questions. If your car is making a little twinky noise, or let me say, I drove in one yesterday and it's a little roaring noise.
So if it's making a noise, you give us a call and we'll give you an answer on what's going on. And we have some people here, Jamie and Charles, both are.
Sort of more in the truck side of it.
So, if there's things come up that has to do with a larger truck or parts to do with a larger truck or parts in general, because along with other car questions, because you both have been in the car industry for many years. Yeah, that's uh you know, you're talking about Just people describing the sounds that the cars make, that's one of the my favorite things to have somebody come in and do is describe that describe the sound. Dude, my time as a writer, that's the That's always the best part of your day is how they're going to reiterate what is going on with their car. And then how you get to type that onto the RO for the technician.
Sometimes you can have some fun with it. Yeah, you got to be creative. You do. But I really love it when they do that because it really and truly helps you to understand what the car is doing. Like if they were just say a roaring noise, it's one thing.
But if they were to say it goes mmm. You got it. You know that that's the noise that's my favorite. As silly as you feel, a lot of it, you can decipher what it is. You can interpret it most times.
Yeah, you can.
Well, last week, I had an AC class. And the reason I want to mention this part is I want everyone to know what most technicians go through. Technicians, automotive technicians and truck technicians, no doubt, it's not an easy job.
Now, it's a fulfilling job, and I love the industry and I love what I do, but it's not one of those type jobs that you're able to just go into and do every year and not worry about trying to learn something new or do something new. If you're an automotive technician and you want to be Be good at what you do. You have to continue to go back to classes on a regular basis because the cars are changing and trucks are changing so fast till there's no way that you can possibly just not. Continue to learn and stay current. And so, this class last week, it was really neat.
We held it here at our downtown location, CNC Automotive, and that's in Augusta for those listening in different areas. But it was an AC certification class and they talked about the new type, some of the. laws involved in refrigerants and gave some tips on air conditioning refrigerant. And we had roughly over 40 people here go to some classes. We have some here that's 50, 60, 70 or more that's in there.
But it was really a good class. I think Bosch put it on O'Reilly Auto Parts was part of the deal because they kind of hosted it. But things like that's important. And I just want to, I'm going to speak to the automotive technicians out there just a little bit. From what I understand, if you get caught working on an AC or using an AC charging machine and you're not certified, you could get a $10,000 fine.
And of course, the fine would more likely go to the shop from what I understand. But But you need to get certified, know a little bit about the refrigerants that are going out there. But also, another big thing having to do with that same deal, certain AC systems, if you put the wrong oil compressor on them, yeah, if you put pag oil, supposed to take ester oil or something like that, or cross-contaminate those type of oils, it can be very expensive.
Well, they come in different viscosities like engine oils for the 134 system, you have three main viscosities in R12 with something different. I'm not really sure what a 1234YF is even thinner. Yeah.
Yeah, and that brings up another point there, Charles. The 1234, it's even more expensive, much more expensive than the 134A. And because of that, it used to be if someone had a little leak, they could say, well, just fill it up and I'll get it done again in another month or so, and that'll get me through the summer. That's not the case anymore. And that's something people need to understand as these refrigerant systems change, because it'll change again.
The cost of these things is just going up exponentially. And you're 100% right. In the day, you could almost check AC systems like with 134 at an oil change.
Now you can't afford that to give that refrigerant away. No. And and And not hundreds and hundreds of dollars each time. Oh, yeah. I mean, they take it.
Just for the refrigerant and to see it just fly out into the atmosphere, it's well, it's not good for the atmosphere, but the main thing is it's not good for your wallet also. It can be very expensive.
So now there's great systems on being able to check for leaks on the AC system.
So if the AC is very, very low, you may lose a little bit over natural permeation on many cars. But if it's real low and you had to add some to it before, you might as well have the leak track. Traced down, found, and repaired. Because if you don't, then it's going to get expensive as time goes on to keep it recharged.
Well, those. Pre-the bottles, you can just run in the part store or Walmart or somewhere and buy with the hose on top, the leak stealer. If you add, keep adding those, adding those, adding those, you're going to fill your system up with all that crud that's in there. Please, please don't use any of that leak sealer stuff. Here's what happens: you use that leak sealer in your car, and then we hook our AC machine up to it, and it tears our machine all to pieces.
If you put it in there, let us know so we can tell you that you got to take all the stuff off and put new stuff on. But these AC machines are anywhere from $5,000 to $10,000. And when you shoot that contaminated refrigerant in there with leak seal type stuff, it stops up our machine. And then also it stops up the car because then you have to replace components on the car.
So it is much better to go ahead and have the leak. Located and then repaired. And I'd rather see you refill it on a regular basis as opposed to put that leak stuff in there.
Okay, wow, it's time to take a real quick break. When we return, looking for automotive question 800-224-9090. Also, have a story about stolen cars coming up. We'll be right back after this. Autozone knows that as a professional, you have to manage a lot of moving parts to run your business.
Fast track your Bay turns with thousands of parts available just up the road, ready to deliver. More parts, easy ordering, and fast delivery so you can keep it moving. That's AutoZone's professional edge. Use not Much time left today. We are back with you at the CNC Auto Show, and I am here with Jamie Bridges and Charles.
And we are ready to answer automotive questions. We're also giving a few back-to-school tips and just automotive tips in general. We talk about anything to do with transportation because we absolutely love it. It's what we do. Ready to go to the cause?
Yeah.
All right. Let's go over here and talk to. Let's see here. We got Susan, I believe. Oh.
Uh oh. Hello, Susan. Welcome to the CNC Auto Show. Thank you. Good morning.
Good morning. Okay. I've got a question about C V T transmissions. I heard they may be more expensive for repairs or any type of work on those. Could you give me a A general idea of that?
Yeah, I would say when now I'm gonna give you my opinion and then I'm gonna let Jamie and Charles chime in there. But on my opinion, when they first come out for the first year or two, there were some issues. And I Really feel like part of the issue was that they were saying you never have to change the fluid on them. And so people never changed the fluid. And sure enough, the transmissions were going bad.
They were having a lot of problems with them. And the big, tricky part on that was there was really nobody had a way of rebuilding them in-house. Whereas, and most of the rebuilders wouldn't build them.
So the only thing you could do is, in most cases, get a new transmission, and that was very expensive.
Now, over time, two things are happening, or three things. One, they started making them a lot better than they did. They identified a lot of the problems that were with the CVT transmissions. Two, they said, yes, let's change the fluid on these jokers after a period of time because fluid gets dirty. If you got something building up heat and spinning around with fast-moving parts of lubricated, it's going to lose its ability to lubricate and it's going to contain contaminants.
That's got to happen.
So, They started changing the fluid. And then after that, there was a. The other TSBs and other things that they did, software-related, that just made them much better. And so now I'm seeing. CVT transmissions last much, much longer than ever, and actually do good.
They've turned out to be a good option. Jamie, you're next.
So I have a 2006 Nissan with a C V T transmission in it. And at this stage and the age of the vehicle, if that C V T transmission goes out. It's it's just it's More worthwhile to scrap the whole car than it would be for me to put another transmission in it. It's just not worth it. Um, because of the age of the vehicle.
I mean, the engine sound is 160,000 miles, but I But the price on these transmissions have come way down from what they were. Even a factory, and of course, I like to tell it like it is, but at one time you could even buy them from an OE transmission, and it was very, very expensive.
Now they're fairly reasonable, even getting them from the dealer. And we have bought a fair amount of the transmissions straight from the dealer because the prices are so competitive now. On my side, you know, I have. More vehicles at home than we need. But the way the cross member runs under the transmission, it's just that.
to me is not Worth it in that particular vehicle. I know what this sounds like. But Jamie wants a new car. Jamie needs a new car. Throw the whole thing in the trash.
But It's I mean, there there's and it's not just Nissan. A lot of people have made these over the years and and they people they keep toying with them and they are getting better and better as time goes by.
Well, the C V T came from I mean, it was in the motorcycle industry for a long time, especially in Europe. Most of your scooters and stuff they ride over there are C V T.
Now, when they made it bigger, obviously, anytime you make anything bigger and you change things, it goes through a. I don't know, teething phase, would be a way to put it. I would this is my feeling on CBT transmissions. If You are just driving. To groceries, get groceries and drop your kids off, and just using it as a truly commuter car.
A C V T is going to be just fine for anybody. I, myself, I would like to say I'm a more spirited driver, maybe. I like to have a gear and I like to have the selection. Yeah.
But I would say any more nowadays, a CBT is just as good, if not better, than a standard automatic. Yeah, I agree with that. Susan, are you having any problems with this vehicle or are you just wanting to make some decisions on whether to think whether to be prepared for other problems that might come up?
Well, right now I don't have that vehicle. I'm shopping for some type of SUV and I. I know if a lot of the Hondas, I think the CRV has that.
So, you know, And I wanted to know about the miles per gallon. Is it better with a C V T or absolutely it's better because you actually have an infinite number of power band. It's never struggling. Yeah, it's all related to software because they can put it anywhere they want. Whereas when a vehicle has gears, you have this kind of power curve.
You kind of get it the best you can up to this RPM and then you get it the best you can with that. You can get it the best all the way across the board, all related to how you want to program it. If you're, unless you're pulling a boat or doing something really heavy duty with it, or you like to drive wild like Charles. Then I wouldn't hesitate to get a CVT. I mean, myself, I'm not sure how a lot of other people feel, but I will say that I think it was Nissan that had the problem with the transmissions the most.
And to me, they did very well on going in and taking care of people. They covered them for a lot of years under factory warranty as they were solving these issues. And when I mentioned this, Susan, now remember that all the things that we talked about, it's kind of in general. You may have some specific gear makes and models that may have had an issue. But in general, I think overall, the overall view, I think CVTs are fine.
And Susan, you can never go wrong with a Honda. Yeah.
You just, you can't. They're a good car. Yeah.
Oh, and Susan, I'm going to leave with this because we run out of this break, but I got to tell you that the number one stolen car in the U.S., Honda CR-Vs, so park it where you don't take your eyes off of it. Park it somewhere secure. Yeah.
I'll put a big dog in there. Honda or Honda. Hey, Susan, thank you for the call.
Okay, thank you for your information. Bye-bye.
Okay, we'll be right back with more of the CNC Auto Show. Formulated for use in all vehicle makes and models. Peak All Makes All Model Anna Freeze Plus Coolant delivers superior lifetime protection. Learn more at peakauto.com. We are back with you with the CNC Auto Show.
I'm here with Jamie and Charles, and we are answering automotive questions, talking about cars, talking about transportation. Even during the breaks, we're talking about cars and transportation. And I'm going to go ahead and open this thing up here. Charles, we were talking about the Some of the studies that Ford had done as far as air on a vehicle in. And how it was, cars are already, ICE engines are already very clean.
Yeah.
So there's a There was a A study done. An album. I want to say it was Porsche. It was a twin turbo Porsche that they took through downtown LA. They drove it for three hours.
And at the end of the study, the crux of the whole thing is that the exhaust coming out of the car was cleaner than the air hitting the air filter. You said he's trying to say the air in LA is dirty? We got clean exhaust or we got dirty air. It was more to the fact that that that was a city that was chosen. I mean, I'm not gonna.
Speak on the cleanliness of LA. It's amazing to me. Yeah, we're still Fighting the ice engine Everybody still wants EVs. This isn't 1955. No, I'm not running everything on leaded fuels and no-cats and.
Just the wild west of automotive, you know, stuff, but Anymore. I feel like the automotive industry has done a beautiful job of stepping up to the plate. Oh, they've adapted it every day. Cleaning and cleaning these vehicles, not only the gas engine, but also the diesel vehicles. Oh, my gosh.
That has to cost somebody a lot of money because the items that are put on these diesels to clean them up is a huge amount of money. And I think people have done a very good job of maintaining that also. But see, that's the thing: all of these after-treatment systems, whether it's the after-treatment, the DPF system on a diesel or the catalytic converter system on a passenger vehicle, a gas engine. They're making a difference because you remember old pictures of LA or New York City or any big city, like in the early 90s. You know, it's a picture of the skyline, but it's cloudy because of the smog.
But now there's not the smog isn't Like it is, you know, or like it was. I remember there used to be it, so. I lived from the west coast. Yeah.
There used to be. With your regular weather forecast. They would give you your smog forecast for the day. Really? On TV with it right after the TV?
Yeah.
But it's not like that anymore. Look at the skyline of. Dallas or LA or any of them, and it's not the same anymore. I mean, these manufacturers have stepped up and they've done something. And like right now, I did trade my Z3 because I loved it.
I had a great time with it, but I needed to be able to pull the CNC auto show trailer because we've been doing so many remotes, been having a great time with those, by the way. But bought a canyon, a GMC Canyon, 2017. And that son of a gun will pull the trailer.
Well, we rode to Birmingham, Alabama in it a while back. It rode really well, even with the trailer behind it. It pulled like a camp. You couldn't even tell the trailer was back there. And without the trailer, this vehicle gets 29 miles to the gallon.
It's a four-cylinder diesel engine in this truck, and it's beautiful. And the air has to be, I mean, you, you, it. Yes. They show that they're burning very efficiently. And so it has to be very environmentally friendly.
They really are. And that's, you know, you can thank that to. Thurbocharging.
Software, R D. But it's not even the same as it was 10 years ago. No, no. The cars that are out now.
Now, I'm going to mention something on it kind of going a step further than that. It seems that Japan's introduced the world's first biomethane engine, and that's signaling a significant shift in traditional from traditional electric vehicles. Yeah.
Because think about this. What if they were able to make fuel out of trash? Because as much trash as we throw away, it has to be a huge amount because in the mornings I carry out three bags.
So, and they're heavy. And so, if there was a way to have an engine that could run off of a lot of the things that are thrown away anyway, and that would almost be like. Converting trash into fuel, then to me, that would be an answer to a lot of issues. Yeah, I mean, we have a lot of good alternates out there that. Make a little more sense than electric battery packs.
At present, battery. Technology levels.
Well, this was developed by Toyota Suzuki Nissan, and it uses biomethane derived from agricultural waste, positioning it as a cleaner alternative.
So, and I guess agricultural waste could be food scraps or cows. All that's methane. And most of that, like if you run by waste manager or something out here, you can see the stacks where they just burn that off. Yeah.
So if you can harness that and then turn that into a fuel. I guess and they may they probably already are. But I guess the main thing we're trying to say is there's a lot of other alternatives that we should. Explore along with the electric vehicles. Continue to explore that because it can be a good source of energy for a lot of vehicles, but there's other alternatives, and we should keep our eyes open for those other alternatives.
I think so. I think, you know, I don't know if you remember, you remember the Fisker Karma? Yeah.
That was. Probably the most efficient way I've seen batteries and ICs together. They took the technology basically from diesel locomotives. And they look awesome, too. They did look awesome.
Yeah.
But it's a more efficient way of using hydrocarbon fuel, is to use it as a generator. The motor's never taxed, the engine's never taxed. And all it's doing is sitting at a steady RPM. To charge the batteries, the batteries, and keep going.
So you can run on battery power for 300 miles, fire up the ice engine, charge everything. And then keep going.
Well, that's uh on the heavy truck side. There's a company in Canada. It's called uh Edison Motors, and they actually do something similar. It's a battery bank, but they use a generator to recharge the batteries and the the truck can just run All day, and just when the batteries get low, the j generator kicks on and charges it up, and she's using microscopic amounts of fuel to do it. And that's and that's straight out of the train ind you know, rail industry.
Yeah.
So a lot of things can be done there. Let's switch gears. All right. All right. We're going to move into stolen cars.
This has got to stop people. Stealing. We have to this. This car theft is hurting so many people. We've seen a lot of those come in during the last couple of months.
It seems like it's more so now. My guess is people's out of school. They're bored, looking for something to do. And so they will literally steal these cars. Here's what happens, though.
You got just like this was just yesterday. Yes, it was yesterday. Two girls come in. They shared a vehicle together to get back and forth to work. The vehicle was stolen.
And they kept the vehicle for. Less than a day, tore it. I mean, flattened the tires, hit, tore the column up, broke the windows, broke, did body damage, all this. And now those two girls are going to be without a vehicle for a pretty good period of time in order to get all the parts to do that. Over a joyride, over a simple little wanting something to do for a few hours, and now they're going to have to spend weeks and months trying to get back to normal and get back and forth to work because insurance will only pay for so many days.
Yeah.
This is terrible. And here's the reason I wanted to mention this. This person that I know, very good customer, he said, he called me. He said, Aaron, my car was stolen. He said, they watched the car all day.
They called me and told me that they were looking at my car almost all day. They said it's here. And they said, we found somebody else, but we hadn't got yours. We see where yours is at. They waited until the person got through with the car and parked it and then called him and told him where his car was.
They knew that the person that had stolen it was driving the car the entire day.
Now, that's not going to deter that person from doing another car the next day.
So we really and truly need to address that issue with people. And in the meantime, I wanted to make sure that people know to please secure your car some way. Make sure you have an alarm system parking in well-lighted areas.
Well, about the most foolproof thing. Besides the security that comes on the car, those those club steer wheel locks auto seven still. I know I would hate to put one. Yeah, but you know, you can't drive it, you know, if if the steering wheel is coming. I'm gonna be go.
The steer wheel locks? Yeah, you haven't seen it? Is there an easy hack to get those off? Yeah.
Well, never mind. Disregarding. Yeah, you can just saw the wheel and you don't even have to do that. Most steering wheels anymore. You can flex the steering wheel enough to get it to pop.
Yeah.
I think you should do that. We could do that, actually. We'll finish discussing that when we get back. We'll be right back with more at the CNC Auto Show. The CNC Auto Show is brought to you by Blasta Products.
They know Rust. They know how to stop Rust with PB Blaster, even how to prevent it from ever happening in the first place with Blaster Surface Shield. Get to know Blasta Products and work it like a pro. Two hands on the wheel, I can't replace the way it made me feel and I would press that clutch and I Keep it. right he said Little sore sign, yeah.
Doing just fine. Yesterday. Roads with trash on each side but I was Merry old when daddy let me drive. And we are back with you with the CNC Auto Show. I'm here with Jamie and Charles, and we are answering automotive questions.
Number to call 800-224-9090. We have a tech tip quiz on the table, which I'll go ahead and read real quick. Sydney has two kids, one's in the third grade, another in the fifth. She was planning to take her kids to school, which was about 25 minutes away. She was listening to this show on Facebook and heard something that gave her a tip that would save her $25 a week.
$25 a week. $100 a month. All right. Hey, that's a hamburger.
So if you know the answer, give us a call at number 800-224-9090. Let's close out the part we were talking about, the stolen vehicles. The main thing we want to say. Is uh is don't assume that your car is always safe. If your car has an alarm system, go ahead and activate the alarm system.
That's a great deterrent. If you're pulling up, getting gas, or going into a store, or doing something, Be aware of your surroundings before you get out of your car and kind of glance even inside your car as you're getting back in. And it don't hurt to do that same thing around your car. Just look and make sure your tires look normal. Do a little short walk around before you get in your vehicle to get in and be aware of your surroundings.
Be safe. That's the main thing because it's not a good thing for us to see people that have had their car stolen and torn up because it not only the financial damage is done, but also emotionally. It affects you emotionally.
Okay, next thing. We are running out of time and we want to make sure that we do cover some tips having to do back to school because that's what we talked about doing. Jamie, have you had the experience of the drop-off line where you drop the kids off or pick the kids up? I hate the car line. It's So, the school, they're going to have their criteria for the car line.
Make sure before school starts, you know what the plan is for the car line, how it functions, how it weaves through the rows of parking spaces at the school, or what the flow is. Always the worst thing with the car line is the first couple weeks of school when you have all the parents that didn't. Look up how the car line was supposed to function, and then they're just everybody's all over the place, and it turns into a nightmare that takes a lot longer. That it's supposed to. It's usually on school websites.
Just Look it up. I mean, you know, just go to your school's website is your best place to get the information. That also will cut down on idle time if the line moves. Efficiently, then you're not sitting there wasting gas. To you, do people get yelled at if they do something wrong?
I've seen some police. Yeah, there's line police. I've seen some angry, angry glances and, you know, sh head shakes and you know the zipper method. And nobody wants to zipper because they always think that they're giving something away. Just zipper.
I mean, it's not that bad, but. That goes to everybody, everywhere. Pro construction, school lines, just different methods. But no, just look it up beforehand. That way you're prepared.
You're not the one sitting there causing the problem with everybody giving you the side eye. What if they they don't tell people they're number one? Yeah, they're a little bit better about that because of the kids in the car. The kids in the car still more Disney project. Yeah, there's not a whole lot of number ones at the car line, but you know, there's some side eyes.
All right. Well, know your procedure, your drive-through procedure.
Now, of course, we're getting a little late to be able to do that in some areas because you've probably already, if you didn't know the procedure, you've probably already been yelled at or told you were number one, wanted a two. But you need to know that procedure of the car line. And here's a big thing. Slow down. I mean, you got car, you got school zones now.
A lot of people are used to the summertime to where you breeze through them. The lights are not flashing. You don't have to worry about much. And you may not get a ticket if you go in a little faster through there. But with the school zones in, you got kids running around in there.
Slow down. Be careful. And you don't want to get a ticket in the school zone. It's not pretty. No, no.
I've never had one because I always definitely respect those signs.
Well, you don't want to have an accident with a pedestrian either. That would be a child. Oh, my God.
So slow down. Be careful. Respect the signs and know the drive-through procedure.
Okay, we're ready for an email. Yeah.
All right. I don't remember if this was. I wrote this down right after I talked to the person. I don't really. Remember all the details there, okay.
Jill wrote in about her 2006 Ford Escape. She said that she dreads the shorter days because she cannot see to drive very well at night. She recently drove a rental car for a few days and she could see much better when she was driving at night. Uh, I've run into that before many, many years ago. I had a uh, I was uh, I was very young and driving a tow truck, our first tow truck that we had ever had, and and I drove the tow truck and and He I couldn't see very well.
I couldn't make out the lights and to, I mean, the addresses on the houses. I couldn't see. And it was killing me because I dreaded getting on. A pull at night. And finally, after a lot of checking, I found that the windshield, I cleaned inside of the windshield, I could see grime or smoke or that was part of it.
Yeah.
But the other thing that I find on a regular basis: one, the windshield, clean that windshield, because you think that your windshield wouldn't be dirty. You say, well, why would it be dirty? I don't do anything, but the inside of the interior puts off a certain amount of fumes.
Well, it's all plastic. Yeah, and that creates a film on the windshield. And most everybody goes to car wash, drive-through car wash now, which is fine. I love them. I go myself.
But you normally, you very rarely clean your inside of your windshield because you run through there, you'll take the vacuum and hit through it, and then you'll go. Most of those car washes have the little table to where you got the windshield washer. Go ahead while you're there, wash the inside of your windshield. And you'll be amazed at the difference that'll make as far as what you can see and especially on that. Morning when the sun's hitting straight at you when she'll so do that.
But also, I was going to mention to Jill. That it's a good idea to look at some stronger headlamps or some brighter headlamps. And Power Vision, Peak Power Vision is my favorite. They make some stronger or some brighter headlights that go. Yeah, they do.
And so that part is a great idea to go ahead and check on some other type of headlights. And there's several different options that you can get, but you can go to Peak Auto or most any parts house that you go into. You can go to O'Reilly AutoZone. Peak's a trusted name, though. Oh, yeah.
So, I mean. Yeah.
You're going to be safe with it.
Well, what I like about Peak, they make so many great products. Like we did just yesterday, the 2017 GMC I was telling you about, Peak Death Fluid is what we put in there. Yeah.
And a lot of coolants are coolants are excellent. The coolant is, oh, I love it because you can get the all makes all models on there, or you can get OE specific. Yeah, they do a lot of specific. That's what I like.
So clean inside of the windshield, get some brighter headlamps. And then if you need a headlamp restoration, so many cars now they get the foggy headlights. And so instead of replacing them, many times you can get them restored, which is sanding layers off of it and then putting some new seal coating back on so it So it seals good. Yeah, I mean, and they've some of those kits are DIY. You can get them at AutoZone, and then there's.
There's a lot of places that'll do it professionally and save you the time of having to redo it. The DIY tits. Really not bad. But I've already told Jill all of that, so she knows it. But I thought it might be good to share.
Okay, we are running out of time on this first hour. We will be back with another hour very shortly.
So hold on. I want to say thank you, Jamie. Thank you, Charles. Thank you. Hey, Jason.
Jacob, thank you. We'll be right back after this. The CNC Auto Show is brought to you in part by K-Seal Ultimate. It offers more sealing power plus engine protection. And did we mention the 100% money-back guarantee?
K-Sill Ultimate is now available at Walmart. And remember, don't just seal it, K-Seal it. Hey, we do want to welcome you back to the second hour of the CNC Auto Show. I'm here with Jamie and Charles, and we are answering automotive questions. We're having a great time.
And we are giving a few back-to-school tips. I think we did a little bit of that. Last hour we talked about cars that have been stolen and how terrible that is for the person and gave a few tips on that part. And so now we are ready to answer more automotive questions. And the number to call is 800-224-9090.
You give us a call, and I'm going to have to lay the tech tip quiz. Back on the table that we had before, because I would really love to give the answer to this or someone to answer this because. Uh, it may help some other people. This one must be tricky. I'm surprised we haven't got a phone call for this one yet.
Yeah, we should have already got a phone call on it. Cindy has two kids: one's in third grade, the other's in the fifth, and she was planning to take her kids to school every day when school starts back. Uh, and because it was about a 25-minute ride, um, but she heard this show, and someone answered the TikTok quiz on telling her how she could save $25 a week with her car. And how did she do that? What was the tip that Someone is going to answer to give this.
Jamie, can you think of a tip?
Some type of, I mean, a. a hint that you can give somebody on this one. Oh We gotta think of. Think of something. Probably to make friends with other parents in your neighborhood.
I like that. That's a good tip.
Okay, make friends.
Okay. All right. So if you know the answer to today's tech tip quiz, you give us a call. And again, that number: 800-224-9090. And during the last hour.
I also mentioned that I went to an A C class on Thursday night. And that was a good class. And it was something that a lot of other technicians came in and we all got certified. We took a test at the end. It wasn't a tough test.
It was a pretty easygoing test. But of course, some of the things it talked about, and I want to mention that one more time, how important it is to make sure to correct refrigerant oil goes back into a system and the exact amount of refrigerant has to be exact. It can't be guessed at, and there's no getting close. Or damage can occur in the right refrigerant oil going back in. And then also, if you suspect that you may have a leak in the system and you're having to add refrigerant on a regular basis, you're going to have the leak checked and repaired because refrigerant is very costly now on some cars.
Now, some it's not near as bad.
Well, even the older stuff, the 134 is. Two or three times more now than it was two, three years ago. Yeah, it is more expensive, but that one, two, three, four is very expensive. It is very expensive. All right, ready to go to calls?
Yes, dude. All right, here we go. Let's go over to.
Okay. Yeah.
Cliff, Cliff, welcome to the CNC Auto Show. And what can we help you with?
Well, I just turned you on. I caught the ending of the tick-tick question. I figured I would just. Do one slot. Oh, wow.
Well, let me put you on stage. Where's my little thing here to summon our. Trumpet player. He's going to come inside the door. You can come on in.
All right, there he is. All right, you're on stage. I'm going to read the question real quick. Sydney's got two kids. What's third grade, one's fifth grade?
And uh she Heard something. She wanted to take them to school, or she needed to take them to school every day. And she heard something on the show that made her be able to save $25 a week with her car. Cliff, all eyes are on you. What is the answer to today's tech tip quiz?
Well, this is probably not quite accurate. I didn't catch all the questions before, but I was going to say, once you just far pool. Charge one family a certain amount, or don't charge nothing, and in one week you're going to take your kids, that would save you the $25 in school. Oh, wait a minute.
Now, is there a chance? Did Jamie's hint help you a little bit? I didn't hear her. I had to come out. All right.
Well, let's see what the judges say. What did they say it? Oh, there they go. Oh. Ought to go incredible.
Cliff, you are absolutely right. And. That's the tip that we thought would be important because my wife did that with our kids. She had a person in the neighborhood, and that person would, I think, one would carry the kids and one would pick the kids up. But however, you want to divide it up, you might want to say, well, pick up, drop off and pick up for two days and the other two days or whatever you do, split it up and save that money because there's no need in two people staying in that line waiting to drop off their kids when you could have one.
Yep. And and that would save that would save a lot of money. Save a lot of everybody a lot of time, too. Just time, gas, money, all of it. Yeah, yeah.
Then your car line shorter. Oh my gosh, dang car line. Yeah.
No. Yeah.
So in doing that, because everybody consider carpooling with the kids and you can split it up.
Now, of course, a lot of times kids are riding a bus and we'll give a few tips on that part a little bit later too. But right now, we have to recognize you, Cliff, because this is a big deal for you, man. You are the winner of the multicolored water bottle with the CNC Auto Show on it. And all of your friends would look at you in awe when you stand in there with that water bottle. I am, Cliff.
I've been here three times. I don't even have one. Yeah, it's going to be kind of amazing.
So I'm going to get you to stay on the line. And then either Mason or Jacob in there will, they're not even watching this. No, I don't know what they're doing in there. They will write down all of your information and they will make sure that they get you that thing shipped out. And we appreciate you calling in and answering our tech tip quiz.
Well, thank you, and y'all have a great weekend. You too. All right, we'll go. Put him right there on the whole part of it.
Okay, the number to call 800-224-9090. If you have a question about your car, your truck, your SUV, or if you just want to give a comment in there, and I guess that we need to give another tip having to do with the kids going back to school, those that are riding the bus and things like that, which is still good because, I mean, that can be an exciting time for kids to kind of relate to each other, talk with each other. But make sure that they as the especially as the night Time. It's still dark in the morning sometime as that time approaches. Make sure they wear some well-lit clothes.
Kind of walk out and instruct them on where to stand and how to get on the school bus. From what I understand, you should be about four or five feet in front of the school bus so the driver can see you really well if you have to walk in front of the bus. Oh, yeah, that's why they have that little arm that comes out. It's just to keep the kids in the line of sight.
So just go through a little class with the kids and make sure that they know what to do while they're standing there waiting on the bus, not run out in front of in the street, things like that. And also how to behave on the school bus is important. All right. Exactly. Yes.
Absolutely.
Okay. I'm going to mention something that I feel like will help everyone. With cars. If you're a professional automotive technician, and Jamie and Charles, I think you two are going to like this because you deal with a lot of shops. If something goes wrong, you get called usually, whether it's the part's fault or not the part's fault.
But Let's say that if you this is going to be something that if a person is a professional automotive technician, it's going to help them a huge amount. If they just work on the weekends on cars, it's going to help them a huge amount. And also, In a lot of other ways, even if they don't actually work on the cars, it will save them.
So. Here is the tip. Oh, wait. We need to take a break. You're about to yell that.
Well, now I know I want to know what it is. Build it up and then cut it off.
So, wait right here. And as soon as we get back, I'll give that tip that's going to help a lot of people. We'll be right back after these messages. The CNC Auto Show is brought to you in part by Optima Batteries. Optima batteries are up to 15 times more vibration resistant than traditional flooded batteries.
Optima Batteries, the ultimate power source. Learn more at optimabatteries.com. And we are back with you with the CNC Auto Show. If you got a question about your car, your truck, your SUV, you give us a call, and that number is 800-224-9090. We have some interesting conversations during the breaks, too, it gets kind of crazy.
Okay, before we went to the break, though, I think we were mentioning that I had a tip for professional technicians. And it's also a tip for People that work on their vehicles on the weekends. And it's something that my guess is that both of you would really love for everyone to do anyway, because it would save you a lot of time.
Okay, so the tip is wait for it. I'm waiting for it. All right, here it is. And that is that if you. working on a vehicle and you purchase a part Many times there's a piece of paper in there now with some type of instructions or wordings.
Now, sometimes that can be something you already know. Useless, but other times that can be a very important thing that you should do when you install that part. Have you ever run into that? Does somebody didn't read it? Yeah, some kind of a software sequence or programming data, and then they're just, oh, what is it?
And you'll get the trash. I'm going to go right back to the AC that we've been talking about. Anytime you open a compressor, that's where you find out what oil should be in it. How to prime it before you put it in. And those are those it's important to read instructions.
Yeah.
Some might say this AC does not have refrigerant oil in it, so you have to add oil. Others might say the oil has been added.
So when you throw that piece of paper away, especially if it's bright red with circles all on it, you don't want to throw it away. And I think it's important to do that with almost anything you get. Go ahead and read it. And if it goes into the, like if you start reading it, it says to avoid electrical shock, this, that, and the other. You can then disconnect battery, yeah.
But at least glance at it and see if what's in there might be important. I was a master technician for years at Mercedes-Benz. I still read instructions.
Some of those stuff that comes out, you have to. It doesn't matter how many times you've done it or what it is, a simple part change. You know, part update, and you're not reading whatever pamphlet came with it, and you're doing the job again, you're expensing the part again.
Well, the engine manufacturer that I that we work with were telling me that they had a customer that had bought a remanufactured engine, and on the card, when it on top of the engine, That when you get it, it says you must replace the intake manifold. They had a problem with that particular engine with the intake manifold stuff breaking loose from the inside and going down inside the engine. burning out the engine yeah so the person didn't read the tag and they stuck the in the old intake manifold right back on the new engine probably caused the problem in the first place it did yeah and it ruined the other one within five six thousand miles a whole nother engine and that person says y'all sold me a faulty engine well it wasn't they didn't read the instructions hot riders will probably relate to this as much with camshafts you put new lifters in a camshaft in it an old small block what do you have to add in there zinc yeah every manufacturer wants you to use break in oil break in oil with zinc and then you're supposed to pre-loot the camshaft i've seen it done before i'll put a new camshaft in it won't run well that's because you wiped it out trying to break it in so So read instructions and that's the tip.
So, all right, now, next thing we want to cover. This was a phone call that I got from Brad. Actually, my son, he was getting our side-by-side already, ready to go and getting it all fixed up. And he called, said, Dad, battery's bad in the side-by-side. It needs to be replaced.
And so we, what I mentioned to him is that if we could, you go ahead and go get one because I was still, I was doing something and wasn't able to do it at the time. And he was getting it all ready so we could ride a little bit. And it said, I told him the only thing I'd like to do is make sure we get an AGM battery from Clarios. Make sure it reads Clarios at the top somewhere. And so he was going to do that.
And we did get the battery and he put that in there. And I just, it's kind of amazing how long those last. But the reason I wanted an AGM battery is because they're more vibration resistant. And we hit some.
Some big bumps with those yokers. And, Charles, you say you just recently got a side-by-side. I did. And I switched it to a GlassMat battery for that reason. One, it's a toy.
You're not using it every day. AGM is going to tolerate a trickle charger way better than a lead-acid battery. And, like you said, with vibration. Yeah.
I drive mine. We've all heard in this show I'm a spirited driver. And I just feel more comfortable with an AGM battery in there, especially in the event of rollover or something like that where you don't have just saying it happens. But in that case, it is an added safety feature that you're not going to be leaking lead acid everywhere. Yeah, that's most of the time they sit right under your seat.
A lot of these. And they don't leak like a lot of flooded batteries. They don't. You put a charger on them and they can start leaking. They get all over your floor, your garage floor, and everything else.
And you got this battery acid running everywhere. You don't have to worry about that. No, you don't. Blarehouse is a. Excellent manufacturer of batteries.
So it sounds like you're going to have a good time with your side-by-side.
So far, keep it wheels down. Yeah.
Not so fun when you're upside down. But yeah, no, it's pretty good.
Well, fantastic.
Okay, the number to call 800-224-9090. Want to read another email that we got here. And this came in, this actually came in a couple of weeks ago, but I wrote it down and I didn't get a chance to read it last week. Already gave Answer to this one, also, to someone. But it ties in with what we've been talking about today.
I thought about it and read it. This person wrote in says, I have a 2015 Ram ProMaster, and rodents love to eat my wiring. He said, Last week was the third time, and I've had my truck towed in for chewed up wiring. And I've tried steel wool, trap, stuffed owls, and peppermint oil. Stuffed owls.
Well, I've told a customer to try that before. This was probably. Three, four years ago, but they lived out in the country. Yeah.
And they had a big wiring harness in the right rear of their engine compartment. A bundle of wires got chewed up. And so we fixed them. It was a pretty expensive job to fix. We got to fix.
Well, it was about two weeks later, the exact same spot.
So this time we repaired them again and put steel wool and all that around in it because I heard that would do good. And I told a customer to buy my now.
Well, it did it again, the same spot. They said the only way it stopped was they had to start parking the car in a different spot. It was a nice cozy place for a nest. But here's what I mentioned to this person. And again, this was several weeks ago, so hopefully they've already tried it.
I told them to go to nhoilundercoating.com and order some rodit defense vehicle protection. And the rodents hate it, but he would love it. And it's got a lot of different chemicals, predator, uh, Avoidance or whatever it is. Rodents hate it. That's what it amounts to.
Well, if it smells scary, they're not going to touch it. I mean, it's wiring it with. What is it, a soy-based coating that they're using on wiring now? It's nice and tasty for so they start making wiring harness insulation out of soy food. Yeah, it's just snacks.
Yeah.
Hey, we'll be right back after these messages. And that was a little what in the world was that song? That was Janice Joplin. I never heard that one before. Yeah, you lucked out.
Something. No. Okay. Very, very popular at the time. Very, very popular song.
I missed that. I missed out. Also, if you have a question about your car, your truck, your SUV, you give us a call and we will be there ready to roll.
Okay. We. Let's talk about the EV car sales. Seems like the honeymoon's about over. No, I'm just cutting off.
It seems that the electric vehicle sales growth in the U. S. continues to slow down some. In the first quarter, Americans bought two hundred sixty eight thousand nine hundred nine electric vehicles, and EV's share of total new vehicle sales in quarter one was seven point three, and that's a decrease from quarter four. Seems like sales are starting to go down some.
I think a lot of people are real.
Some people are realizing that, hey, this is a great option. They're buying them and they're turning out to say, wow, this is a good deal. It's just what I need. Other people are finding out that this would not be necessarily what they need. They may travel and they may not want to take these breaks that you have to take to have the recharging done.
And so I think it's starting to, it's just working on finding its place in society. I think that's absolutely right. I I think if you're in the inner city. Where your trips are short, and you're, you know, in traffic situations and stuff like that, where you can make a trip there and back. Yeah.
I think an electric car is a great idea. If I lived in Atlanta, great idea. Yeah, as long as you don't get stuck in traffic.
Well, but even then, I mean, most of them have solar panels and stuff on the roof. I like I said, in an inner city situation, absolutely. An over-the-road situation, if you got more than a You know, 25-mile commute every day. Probably not for you. And now we're starting to see some of the other problems.
Like with this last winter. Oh, now we're starting to see that.
Now we're starting to see that.
Okay, batteries don't like. Super cold temperatures. Or super hot. Super hot temperatures either.
So, I mean, now 50 or 70 is where they like to be. Right.
So, I mean, that's where you're saying, finding your place. And I think in mild climates, in Inner-city situations where you're short-tripping it a lot, yeah. I think there is a market for it, I think it's a great idea. And some manufacturers are putting heaters near the batteries now to keep them warm and AC to keep them cool.
So, I mean, you got all these things going on to try to do that. But I think the other part having to do with the city, though, you mentioned EVs in the city, that's a great option if everybody had it. But what would happen if everybody had that?
Well, see, that's the other problem. You talk about some arguments in the line, but what about the arguments in the middle of the night? People that you unplug my car if I plug yours in. And I think you can go a little further with that, too. This is all based on the idea that the grid could handle all of that.
Oh, yeah. I mean, it's... We're not even fighting over chargers yet. Cities can't even supply. To keep up with the heat and the air conditioners running.
Yeah, let alone charging. On top of thousands of EV cars, and then you know, now we're adding buses and trucks from our industry, and that is an insane amount of power to try to charge something. I mean, the requirements are you know, we're gonna have our uh generac that in case your electricity goes off, boom, you'll have something you can run off of. And uh, it might be good to if we got to that point to where all you have was EV to have a bicycle standing by just in case. You know, I have a customer, they ordered some uh electric school buses, but they also ordered a propane-powered generator to charge the school buses so the school bus would be 100% green.
So I guess in that instance, you know, with the alternate fuel. But see that right there? We're right back to where we started with the Fisker and going back to the Diesel. That's how it's going to work. And if it's going to work, the rail industry figured out this and What the 50s?
Yeah.
I mean, they started with the Diesel Electrics. Yeah.
And that's. Propane electric, gas electric, diesel electric. I mean, that's really how you get, how you tap the. Most out of the fuel and get the most out of the battery. It's a hybrid setup.
Yep. Ready to go to calls? Yes. All right, let's go do it. Let's go over to.
Ron and Applin, and hello, Ron, and welcome to the CNC Auto Show.
Well, good morning, fellas. Hope everyone's doing well. Yes, sir. Last week, yep, great, great. Last week, Ford announced that they had to close down their EV plant in Toronto so that they could uh get room to produce more F Super Duty trucks.
So it's an economic issue too as well as just being it and it's like we've discussed before. It has its place. For inner city people that want to go from just a hop around, just a little transporter car. There'd be fives. But for the majority of Americans that has to get out every day and go to work.
and raise a family. we are so consumed with gathering nuts that we can't take to it's just too much stress to worry about is the system working? Is the is it charged? Is my charger working? Am I going to have to replace the charger?
Am I going to replace the battery? It just adds a new layer of stress. When right now, with the gas vehicles, all it got to do is take it down to CNC at Automotive and get it shit. It's right there. I can't watch you, Ron.
We appreciate that. I just wanted to see if I could answer that tech tip about what that woman done 15 minutes every morning besides praying. Absolutely, you can. And I'm going to add one other thing to what you said, though, as far as the vehicles. A lot of people look at the price of what it costs to build an EV vehicle and what they sell it for.
And if you look at it, many times they're actually selling the car for less than they made it for.
Well, there's a reason for that because you have to have an average of a certain fuel mileage. And if you sell a certain number of those at a loss, then that will leave more room for you to sell a lot of your F-150s, which, by the way, that's something I had on my list. I was going to mention, best-selling vehicle in the country is Ford F-150. And the reason that is, they're able to sell those only because they sold a portion of EV cars and even at a loss.
Okay, so Ron, from what I'm saying. Just before we do this tech tip, just since you mentioned that about the cost, What is it? Maybe y'all can explain to me. How can an automotive company advertise on the T V that and it's one of these expensive GM trucks. that they were going to knock off twelve thousand dollars What does that tell you?
you know, as someone that's in the industry. what what does that mean that you know, that they have a vehicle that They're trying to make a profit, and that's great. We're in a free market system. But what does that tell you when they're willing to knock twelve thousand dollars off of a ninety thousand dollar truck? What that is mark it up to mark it down.
Not necessarily.
So it's a loss leader. It's all about numbers, right? If you can sell a lot of them, you can eat most of your profit.
So they're still making something, granted. But If you if you sell 90 of those trucks. If a dealer can shift 90 of them. And make a thousand dollars off each one.
Well, he still made 90 grand. Yeah, he still made his money, and it looks like you got a great deal, but they do it as a loss leader to move units.
Well, also, when you think about it, you sell a $30,000 car and you give $3,000 off, you've got about 10%. You sell $120,000 car, you give $12,000 off, you still got 10%.
So you're giving about 10% off either way. Yeah.
Well, I it's being the being the cynic I am, I just thought it was uh Uh just um overpriced. Oh, no. No. This is this is all. 90 grand for a pickup is a steal.
I'll take two. I'll give it two right now. I think that is a fantastic deal. All right, Ron. Be still now.
We're going to need to put you on stage and read the question here. There we go. Mm-hmm. Hmm. You are officially on stage.
And the question was, Mary lowered her chances by being involved in an accident by a huge, I mean, a huge amount. And it only took her 15 minutes a day to do it. What did she do? 15 minutes, Ron, what is the answer to today's tech tip quiz? She done a fifteen-minute cardiovascular workout.
Ooh. Wow, and that made her much smarter. It gets the blood flowing. It wakes you up. Look, I'm 73.
When I wake up in the morning, the first thing I'm looking at is the obituaries in the paper. You know, you got to have something to get that blood flowing. I mean, medications can take you just so far. Ron, I'm going to tell you, people's like cars now. 73 is nothing anymore.
Just like it used to be, people would worry about 100,000 miles. 100,000 miles, nothing now. It's still getting warmed up at 100. People's the same way. 73, you, you, uh, you, you're still good, man.
You got it. All right. Um, my doctor, my doctor hasn't given me the long face yet. All right, let's see what the uh let's see what the judges are going to say to that one, judges. Oh, man.
Oh, Ron, Ron, Ron. All is good. All right, Rod, thank you. I've already took my medications. Y'all have a great weekend and be safe.
Have a great weekend. You do the same. Bye-bye.
Okay, the number to call 800-224-9090. And we will take a quick break. We'll be right back after this. As a professional, you've got a thousand and one things to track in your shop and zero minutes to slow down. Autozone understands that and is here to help you keep your business moving.

Phoebe ain't much too fast. And we're back with you with the CNC Auto Show Lines Full. And so we're going to go over to the next caller. And that will be... Jim in Aiken.
Jim, welcome to the CNC Auto Show. Good morning, y'all. Like to try to give you a wrong answer to your tick-tick quiz. Say you wanted two more things.
Now, this is pretty awesome.
So, we're going to do that. I'm going to read the quiz real quick, put you on stage. Melody lowered her chances of being involved in an accident by a huge amount by doing one little thing. It took her 15 minutes a day. James, all eyes are on you.
And what is the answer to today's Tech Tip Quiz? My wife is tired of hearing me say, people that are on my butt on the roads. If you want to be there quicker, leave sooner. I think that's what she did. She went to work sooner.
So she was off that gas pad a little bit more, left more room between her and the folks around her, wasn't in a hurry. And That was her fifteen minute investment in Being safer on the road. James, if you like in the morning time, if you're going to leave sooner. What do you normally have to do that morning in order to leave sooner? Oh.
Of course, you. Oh, I see what you're saying.
Well, the whole thing goes backwards. Sure. Had to get up earlier. Yes! Woo!
Oh. Yes. You can just get up just a little bit, get up just a little bit sooner. Get up, get dressed, get the kids ready. You don't have to worry or hurry as much to do that.
And then when you all get in the car and go, you're leaving at a time to where you don't have to, like you mentioned, tailgate that other person. You are the winner of today's Tech Tip Quiz, and congratulations.
Well, good, good. It's always fun. Yes. You talked about some other stuff before about reading the instructions. One of the things you always got to read is when you.
I think you're going to go in and put in one of those blend door actuators. Read those instructions. If you don't install it, before you power it up. You'll roach the thing and it'll be crazy for the rest of its life. I was looking for a good example, and that is a perfect example.
It tells you do not plug in until you've put it in the vehicle because it will wipe out the wipe the system out. Yeah, recalculate it. You can't learn where it is.
Okay, good tip. It's good for all of us to learn where we are. Hey, and I got a question about my battery tender. I got three vehicles on. A battery tender, lead-acid battery, same battery tender, same twelve volts.
And one of them, for some reason, developed so much corrosion on the negative clip from the battery tender, made of copper just like. That it actually ate through the whole thing and went to pieces, but the other two cars sitting right next to it, same thing. No such thing happened. What why why is this one different? I think your battery's gassing.
Gassing out at the negative terminal. I'll agree with that. The battery itself is probably going to be the problem. That's that. And a long time ago, they used to make those little, and I'm sure they still do, but they used to make the little felt type things that you could lay around the battery cable and it would just sort of lay there and it would absorb those gases when they come up through there.
Anti-corrosion washers. Yeah, something like that. And those used to be real common. You don't see those anymore, mainly because batteries are made so much better. But I lean toward it being the battery leaking out through there.
Definitely guessing on Got it. I got that salt ring on that negative terminal and a positive one, so that didn't stop it. Oh, no. You weren't holding your mouth, right? I didn't care.
So I took it off. I'll get a new, I'll get a new clip harness for that and. scrubbed it all down nicely and I put the um battery protectant aerosol on it. Yeah, that little sealant. That's a good good tip too.
I mean, to put that on. And uh and putting both of those on together should take care of it. But if it don't, then you might end up needing another battery. Yep. And I like the nice new round of music you had today.
You even gave a nice Mercedes ones for a special event. I appreciate that very much. Yeah, that was a little different. All right. Enjoy the show, y'all.
Thanks for coming in early to do it. It's for our benefit that you did. Thank you very much for calling and joining the show, James. You bet. Good day.
Bye-bye.
Always good to hear from him.
Okay, let's go to, let's go over to, I think Ron's back on the line here. Let's see what we got going on. Ryan, welcome back to the CNC Auto Show. It's this is a different Ron. Different Ron.
Oh, this is a different Ron.
Okay. Hello, Ron. Oh, uh, it sounds like a hundred percent of all the Ron's in Appling listen to your show. Nobody's gone after before. There you go.
We appreciate every one of them. Nailing it. I've got a 2018 F-150 with a 3.5 Eco boost and it's starting at about 50,000 miles. started getting this this rattle. when you start it up cold.
And it's uh I Yeah. Ford knows about it, and I brought it into a Ford a number of times, and they said, Oh, yeah, it's just software, and they didn't fix anything. And so now I'm at 100,000 miles and it's rattling even worse these days. And Uh tell me uh I know I gotta get it fixed. It sounds like Ford's not gonna ever reimburse me before.
And what all is involved there, and what kind of money is are we talking about And um What what exactly is going on? I'm going to get Charles to answer this because we got about 45 seconds left on him.
So basically what this does is this is actuating your camshafts. For basic Changing the valves, basically changing your valve runner length. What's going to happen is essentially, you're going to do a timing change job on the front of the motor. And when it's in there, you're going to change the phasers.
Now, what that entails cost wise. That's a hard idea. I can give you a rough idea. You would probably be better at that.
Somewhere between $2,800 and $3,200 would be a rough guess. And on this, and again, I'm an open book. I say what's on my mind, but I would use OE parts because they've had some issues with some of the aftermarket in some cases. But yes, all right.
Now go ahead, Charles. Because, well, and to Aaron's fact there, Ford has updated those phasers. Oh. Charles, we're going to be out of time. Let's ask him to stay on the line.
We're going to finish answering your question. I'm going to put you on hold just a little bit. As soon as this is done, we'll come in there and give you the rest of the information. And we've enjoyed being here. Every time.
All right. See you next week, CNC Auto Show. In the shop this week, it was hot. We had a lot of AC work. We needed another AC recharging station.
Instead of going to many different websites looking for different models, I went to AutoZonePro.com and was able to look at six different brands at the same time, side by side. There were charts of the options that each one had along with the price that made it much easier to make a decision on the unit that would work best for our shop. While I was there, I ordered a second leak detector and a new die light. Most automotive professionals know that time is money. Seeing what's available on one site helps me to make good decisions fast.
You can order from the site, but I normally pick up the phone and call my AutoZone outside rep, and she works on getting me the best price and getting it here as fast as possible. As I was prepared for this, I decided to see how many pages of tools and equipment were on the site. I got to page 116 and stopped looking. Time is money, and I had to go. But I do know there's a lot of tools and equipment to choose from at autozonepro.com.
