where this happened. Uh that this happened. Being that Damian Lillard has been traded to the Milwaukee Bucks. Um So I immediately got a text from Paul Imig. Who has been the one, like we just talked about this the other day.

And this is this is such an emergency pod. That not only is it a live YouTube, it's going straight. To the Blue Wire Spotifies. Whoa, whoa, whoa. Yeah, so double decker day.

All right. You don't care about that. They got dame. I don't know shit about what happened yet or what's going on. Um I know that we've been talking about this and I've just been downplaying it at every turn.

Yeah. And I kept swimming last week. He gave no indication that this was coming.

So Damian Lillard's been traded to the Bucks. Woge with the bomb. His account Talk to me.

Okay, so first off, I was extremely, I think I'm gonna be extremely wrong about CJ Stroud. I'm extremely right and have been right about Davia Lillard and Giannis. Drew Holiday. A day after telling the Journal Sentinel that he wants to retire a buck. is not a buck.

He's going to the Blazers. but he'll likely be rerouted to another team. Um Grayson Allen is gone. And I think Grayson Allen is a Phoenix son. He just changed his number.

What the fuck? I just bought a new jersey. Yeah, I'm sure you did.

So basically, it's, I mean, you gave up Drew Holiday, Grayson Allen, and picks and pick swaps. For Damian Lillard. And I do not want to go to the next step yet because the Bucks just acquired Damian freaking Lillard.

So we should stay focused. But, Bart, and this is a big, big, big, important thing. That Damian Lewitt has four years left on his contract. Yannis can sign an extension.

Okay. This could be What sets the stage for Giannis to sign his mega super extension to keep him in Milwaukee for six years, so four or two plus four. And like this could have been the thing, right?

So like if you're John Horst, and again, we should not overly jump the gun because the Bucks just got Damian Lilla. We don't have to focus on Giannis, but this could be step one to the Giannis mega extension as part of the like, hey, if we go get Dame. Will you write your signature on this line? This is monumental. Like, forget the Giannis extension for the moment.

Damian Lillard. Yes, he's older. He is wow. He's a top. 30, 40 player of all time?

I'd love to go look at some lists. I've not had time to digest any of those all-time. NBA player list. He's in the top 30 or 40. I'd be very surprised if he's not on most of those Top 40, 50 lists.

He's a Milwaukee Bach and this is Incredible. Because like just yesterday. You're seeing all these things of like, well, the Toronto Raptors have this long-term vision. Were they gonna? Get Lillard and then they're gonna convince The Giannis would come in a year or two, and so it's like these Dame and Giannis things.

And the heat just kept balking and balking at giving up too much. And so it's not only that the Bucks. Get Damian Lillard. It's that the heat don't. And Bart, you can, I know you kind of like have poo-pooed that in our other conversations and not made a big deal out of it.

If the heat had had, Butler, Bam, and Dame. I would not put the Bucks roster as it currently was, as it was previous to this trade, ahead of Dame, Butler, and Bam. This is. This is incredible.

So I have so much to say. Let me pause. Oh my God. God. It actually happened.

And this is. Amazing. M Shark says, I don't want to be a downer. I don't know how much better this makes the Bucks.

Well, then don't even read that. That is a stupid thing to say. It makes them a lot better. There's a reason that on the Dan Shaney YouTube stream. We got the parade chairs out, okay?

I mean, I I think that would be this is when I bring back that bit. is today I go in rain soak Milwaukee. Go right back to this spot. And throw a parade chair. Down.

So Damian Lillard. is coming to the box. Hot take Jake has jumped in. Hot take Jake, there's a lot of backlash to your awful brewers take. that many have suggested a five-day ban for you.

So, what I will do is, you have a lot less leniency today. The minute you say something stupid, you're gone. People hate the truth so much, man. It's hilarious. That is a sweet talk.

Let's talk about Dame. You've been wanting to talk about Dame for a long time. I always say, no, waste of time. Not today. Yeah, I mean, what?

Me bringing up Dame on your show has been a bit almost like this is fucking nuts. I can't. I can't wait to smile off my face right now. Um Besides Giannis and Ray Allen. Maybe Grant Hill, Damian Lillard, is my favorite NBA player of all time.

Like, I can't. I don't know what this means for the team, what they look like. I don't really give a shit right now. This is crazy. They did it.

They I'll give God, my goodness. John Horse credit. I didn't think he had the stones to pull off something like this. He did it. And.

Ow. Just, wow, in a vacuum, I like the value. I would have rather kept. True to keep with Dame, but Either way, I think you bring in a guy that It's kind of what you were lacking offensively was somebody that could just go and get his own shot and create offense. And I also think that Jesus Christ.

They got some weird fire engines out here in Buffalo. You also have somebody that I think is underrated as a point guard. And now that he has a lot of viable options, I think you'll see him probably progress a little bit more than he was with Portland as a true playmaker for his teammates.

So a couple of better details here. Um a couple minor details.

So the Bucs did send out two players. And got back one, which means Cameron Payne or another player, there's now a roster spot. There wasn't previously a roster spot to sign Cam Payne or anybody else for that matter. They now have that roster spot. Also, just to your point, Jake, you know, you wish they could have kept Drew and still done this.

That's impossible because they can't trade Middleton until February. They can't trade Brooke until February.

So, not to be all technical about it, but you could not have done this trade without trading either Giannis for the salary slot or trading Drew for the salary slot. I think we can appreciate what Drew was. He is part of, I think, the most iconic play. in my lifetime for sure. Oh, they don't win a title without Drew.

I don't want anything to turn into Drew slander. We don't have to do it right right.

So Drew is an iconic. He will like he's a pivotal, probably the second most valuable player of the Bucs championship. I think that's. Accurate, right? We should not forget what he did, but to be able to turn an expiring.

Drew holiday contract, who, by the way, coming up in February, you would have had to extend. Or let walk for nothing. And I don't know if you guys were ready to give holiday at age 33 a four-year, $160 million extension. You turned that holiday expiring, and Grayson Allen. And yes, draft picks, and that 29, that 20, 29 bucks first-round pick.

You know, post maybe Giannis is gone in six years. Damian Lillard's probably retired in six years. Like, the Buck could be terrible. They could be giving up a top three pick in 2029. Right now.

You finished. You can finish. I'm clarity.

So, all of it, but who cares? Who cares? Because none of that matters. The Bucs just paired. Damian Lillard with Giannis to compliment already then Chris and Brooke.

So I think Drew had some really, really iconic moments and clutch plays in that finals run. But The truth of the matter is, if you kind of take away those three or four moments, his playoff history with Milwaukee is kind of similar to Bledsoe.

So, I mean Hey, there's that. What? I'm not hating on him. I'm just saying, if you look at his overall numbers, even in that run in 2021. Yes, he was, you know, behind the Value Oop and he made some great plays, but From the broad numbers standpoint, he didn't have a great run that year.

Does it matter? Drew came here. Again, I don't want any Drew slander. I'm not slandering him. I'm just saying if people are, you know, I'm trying to make the trade even better.

So we'll see what happens. But today is a day of celebration. But I did pull up the projected salary for Damian Lillard.

So he gets 46 million this year. But it's not. Forty nine million and twenty four twenty five.

So, I think it's a very good idea. And $63 million the year after Giannis' contract expires in 2026-27.

So that's that's a huge contract for somebody who hasn't played a lot the last two years. I think last year was by choice and by design. But he's an older player. I'm very excited to see what can happen if we stay healthy. But we're kind of taking on a new risk.

But this contract will be very tradable. Um and I guess what's a bummer is we do with those swap right trades, I don't think we can trade those picks. anymore.

So like they are on the shelf. Because of the swaps.

So, like, our ammo for next year is gone except for like unloading. Game or Yannis or Chris. But that's my analytical brain. My My Bucks fandom is so excited. Like, I'm going to get a Dame jersey tonight.

Cannot wait for the home opener. This is going to be no. I got to get credentialed to Media Day now. I got to go see Dame, dog. I mean, what did Vegas just do to the odds?

Like, are we first yet? Like, how do we not? It's got to be. I don't know, but there's going to be a lot of those NBA writers that. Go goo goo for Coco Puffs over the Celtics that their finals prediction is going to switch real quick.

Oh, yeah. Yeah. Even though, even though, to be fair. You know, this is only the second biggest transaction in the NBA today. The Golden State Warriors are signing Rudy Gay.

I'll take off video so I can just read it to you rather than trying to recite it from memory. Um The Bucs get Damian Lillard. The Blazers get Drew Holiday, DeAndre Ayton, The Bucs 2029 first round pick and Bucs draft swap rights. The Suns, because they traded Aiton, get Yousuf Nurkic from the Blazers, Nasir Little from the Blazers. The Suns traded Ayton.

The Suns traded eight. This is a three-team deal with DeAndre Ayton going to the Blazers. Oh shit. And Nurkic going to the Suns, along with Grayson Allen. The uh Merkich and Grace and Mark.

That's you. But I mean, the meat of the deal here is the Bucs lose holiday graces 2029 first and a pick swap. for Lillard. which is terrific value.

So just to call it a couple of things like so Q, yeah, the 63 million dollars. You, you, you and Q have a conversation. Uh my computer's not I'm probably going to be here a while, so I need to go get my charger. You go do that. Oh, Q, I don't know if you were saying this, you know, just like from your brain of fandom, but like they couldn't have traded Middleton.

Right. Like that's because the math didn't work out. Yeah. Well, no, no, because they just re-signed him.

So then you can't trade a guy who, like, for six months that you just re-signed.

So they could have done it like in late February, I think, is when they could first trade Middletown. Yeah, or it might, yeah, right around that time period, they could, for the first time, trade Middleton.

So, the only salary matches that the Bucks had that they could trade, because same thing with Brooke Lopez. You couldn't trade Brooke Lopez to fit salary.

So, it was either Giannis' salary slot. Or Drew plus either Grayson or Drew plus Pat or Drew plus Bobby. Like those are your only options. And I know like some people might just be joining late. I if we're gonna read the tea leaves.

Giannis, as of last week. was able to sign an extension. With the box. And the assumption was that it would be in Giannis's, not in Giannis' best interest. to do that, right?

Is there any chance that this is the first, like this is like? The thing that happens, the Damian Lillard trade gets announced, and then tomorrow. Giannis exigns his extension. That horse calls Giannis and says, Hey, I can pull off Dame. But I'm gonna have to pay him $63 million when he's 37 years old.

If I'm going to do that, Giannis, I need you to sign your extension tonight. Which would be huge. Right. That'd be a two-for-one. It'd be a two-for-one trade.

And the best part is, my understanding is you lock. In the contract at this year's cap.

So, like, The growth rate is off of now instead of like next year, Giannis would be making like. 60 million Um Like base year, and then it grows to like 75 or 80 or whatever ridiculous number.

So, yeah, if this is a two-for-one trade, it's huge. And I'm just, I pulled up the Durant trade.

So Phoenix. Traded Malik Bridges, Cam Johnson, Jay, four first-round picks, and a 28-draft swap. Comparing that to this, I feel like we got Dame for a steal. And the best part is. before I drop off, he didn't go to another team in the East, which like.

If he went to Chicago, we would have been so upset. If he went to Miami or. Sixers, or even Toronto, like they'd be another contender in the East.

So, like, we kept him. Yeah. In In at Pfizer.

So I don't know. I'm thrilled. I can't wait to see. How do you feel about this? There were some comments that I haven't gotten to yet that.

um speaking of comments Dan Shaney commenting on the Dan Shaney YouTube stream. Talking about Drew. A misspelling Dan on Drew. But well We'll uh We'll let it slide. Um My guy's sweet Sassy Evan Massey says, no, Q, I need you for this.

Per source. Heat are expected to pursue a trade with Blazers for Drew Holiday. Yeah, I mean, it makes sense. They still get better. Evan Massey or otherwise, if Holiday goes to the Heats, they get better.

Well, so we've allowed ourselves to get better, but we've also allowed them to get better. He's going to have revenge on the brain. Sure. I will happily, as I think You know, as much as we can think positively about what holiday meant and the value and all the stuff. Miami would have much rather to have acquired Damian Lillard than had the opportunity to maybe acquire Drew Holiday.

from Portland, it makes sense that that will happen. But I mean, I don't even know like how much. How much if it's like so Tyler Hero and Nicola Jovich for I mean, I don't know. I mean, it may it will make Miami better if they can pull something like that off, but. Not Damien Lillard acquisition level better.

So So, I again, I'm Paul. We've been talking about this. Paul Emmig, Tim Shea, and Bart Winkler, we've been talking about this and. I just I You know, I maybe could have allowed myself, like, there was smoke here. There's a lot of smoke here.

More directing than normal. Drew, it was almost like this Drew article now is like a last-ditch effort. Like, no, don't trade me. I want to be here. I didn't mean the retirement thing.

I'm sorry. I wouldn't doubt that at all. And by the way, like I said, Lillard and Giannis have been flirting with plane together somewhere. for at least a couple years. The problem was like they both wanted the other guy to go to their city.

Like, Damian Lillard never really wanted to. I mean, up until very recently, didn't he tried not to leave Portland. He kept trying to recruit guys to come join him. What if the trade was. Milwaukee gets dame.

And Portland gets the Brewers. Would you do that deal? No. Yeah. Yeah.

Hold on, Tim, do you have, you're live outside of Pfizer Forum? Do you have any, are there any rallies starting? Do we have any counter rallies? Is anything going on there today? It's empty out here.

Nothing. And that's exactly how the beer district would look. from October through April. All right, so I'm gonna go, but this is amazing.

So. You're going to go. You're like my expert. It's more than amazing. I think I've shed all the light on this I can.

Um Yes, I think you two need to be credentialed Monday for Media Day and go down there. Come down here. I think the chances of the Bucs not being the overwhelming favorite in the East from an odds perspective, as of whenever they update their odds. It's going to be. I think a universal agreement from NBA people that The bucks are the Absolute clear-cut, no-question favorite.

In the East at this point.

I don't know. But it doesn't matter. It's the same thing like Lillard. Like, we have to enjoy this for what it is. And it's an unbelievable piece coming to a team that can take them to a level that they didn't even approach two years ago.

I mean, two years ago was an unbelievable run, but there were still flaws with that team. There's still going to be flaws with this team, don't get me wrong. But this takes them to a different level of expectation and possibility and enjoy it. This is unbelievable. I can't believe it.

And so, the fact of the matter is, when people bring up Giannis, though, the only thing I would say to that is, He can sign whatever deal he wants to tonight. For as long as he wants, and he's still. Effectively, a year-to-year player because the instant he causes a problem, just like Lillard did, and says, I'm out, then you have to deal with the reality.

So, I don't think that's a bad thing either. I'm glad we started a live stream so we could just pour water on the whole fucking trade. I'm not, I think it's unbelievable. I'm saying people are denigrating the trade by being like, now we got to see what Giannis does. Forget that.

It doesn't, that part is reality. Enjoy the moment. I'm enjoying the moment. I can't wait. I got my tickets.

I was excited for the season. I got over last year. But now, like, I am very excited. How that's not negative. That's saying quit being negative.

Grayson's gone and Drew is gone.

Some picks are gone six years from now. And as Rami is so rightly saying, none of that shit matters. They essentially, I mean, to get like, if Tyler Hero was going to go to the heat, or if Tyler Hero was going to go to, this is almost like that. This is barely better than that deal. Bucks for Dane.

I don't even. Bart, I didn't even believe this. You texted me this and said, jump on the podcast. I was mid-workout, as you can see. And I still had a half hour left.

This is the best thing that could have happened. This is the absolute best thing that could have happened for Milwaukee.

I don't even care what they gave up. You could have told me holiday or Christmas. Mm-hmm. And I'd have been okay with that. They didn't give up either of those two guys.

And to have the organization respond this way, this is like the ultimate F you for all the small markets in the playbook on how to keep a player long term that's already won a championship, is going to be one of the greatest players of all time.

Well the day Yannis had those comments. Um You, I heard from you. I heard from Decell. I heard from a couple other. Of the CBS guys being like.

Oh, he's got Manny, Manny thought. And I'm telling you guys: no, Gianna says this stuff all the time. Um I didn't expect it to have this sort of Impact. And even, I don't know that, I don't know that they maybe they did. I don't know how much the comments, like, were they fine going in and then thought, okay, Giannis is a little more aggressive this time.

We have to go do something. Was the dame situation too good to be like, he's just sitting there waiting. The whole league knows he's going to Miami for nothing. And so at that case, just like, it's just like the Big Ten getting Oregon and Washington. They don't need them.

They don't want them. They're fine with what they got. But if you're going to get them for nothing, go get them.

Well, I'm just shocked. Like, I don't know, like, everyone's shocked on this because it was a foregone conclusion. He was going to Miami. I thought this was all a bunch of noise, and the player, right, and the NBA always gets what they want, player empowerment. He wanted to go to Miami, snap the fingers.

I thought it was Miami or everybody sort of retreating back to their corners and he ends up back in Portland. I saw the report from that the Bucs were in on this about a week ago from that dude who was scooping all the NBA free agent news before Woge and before Shams were doing it and before he had his account closed down and I was like This dude has been onto something, and since then, I was like, there might be something there, but I did not, I did not necessarily expect this to happen. This, this is, this is completely out of the blue to me. Uh, this, and, and, and, and. Just mind-blowing, quite frankly.

So I taped an interview with Magic Johnson this morning, and now it's like totally. Kobe's owner. Kobe loves the Commanders. Yeah. So we did talk a little bit about the Commanders in the future, but I asked him about Giannis.

And he said that Giannis is the hardest working player he's ever seen. And in regards to the message, he goes, he put the organization. On blast, and said, if you guys get complacent, if you get to a level, I don't feel like everyone's all in, I will leave. And he even said, Giannis loves Milwaukee. Giannis wants to stay in Milwaukee, but he has to feel like he's won a championship, and now it's up to the organization.

To get the job done. And then look what happens like five hours later, they go get Damian Lillard, who Giannis and Dame together are like the perfect combo in terms of. Dudes that are just likable, have gone about it the right way, and this should result, as long as everyone stays healthy, this should result in another championship. I'm d these count. I'm going down.

Okay, so John Horst. Can I talk about this for a second? John Horst. has always had one mission, and that's to keep Giannis in Milwaukee. Um In his tenure, John Horst has gotten Yannis.

It's one thing to draft them. It's harder to read. Signed him, so he's done it at least twice. He brought in Drew Holiday for nothing. They won a championship.

And now he's brought in Damian Lillard. I mean, if that, if he hasn't already claimed. Clamped on executive of the year. Like, who else could it be? See Bart, I don't think, and like you said, and like we've said in many conversations we've had together when Giannis has made comments like the ones he made recently in the past.

He's He, those comments were nothing new, and he's going to keep on putting that pressure on the organization. But I don't know that that's necessarily what. You know, spark them to go and make this trade. I think that's just how they operate. They don't necessarily need Giannis to light that fire under them.

This is an organization that wants to win championships and. And actively seeks them, doesn't hope to get luckier for the ball to bounce the right way or for a draft pick to fall in their lap. I mean, Giannis, in a sense, fell in their lap to a degree, but they're not going to be... They're not going to be lax or lackadaisical in going and getting championships. They actively go and seek championships and they got the right price for Dame Lillard.

That's why they ultimately went and made the deal. I don't think they needed Giannis to scare them into making a deal to go and trade for Dame Lillard. This is just how this organization operates. And that more than anything is what should thrill you as a Bucks fan. I used to tell Packers fans in all my years around here that you should, yes, Rogers is great and Favre was great before him, but what you should really be appreciative and glad about is you have a great organization.

And that's what you have with the Bucs, man. I don't think this is Giannis making them go and make this trade. This is just what they do. And that's pretty awesome. Yeah, and for John Horse to get him for essentially swapping Holiday and Damian Lillard and then throwing in a couple first-round picks in the future when who really cares?

You can figure that stuff out later. And Grayson Allen, like, can you ask for a better deal than that? Because you didn't have to sacrifice Marjon Bochamp, who might have to play a bigger role this year, especially defensively. You didn't have to give up Chris Middleton. Like, you could still keep Giannis, Chris, and Damian Lillard together.

You kept a lot of the core still, and you gave up a couple first-round picks.

So it's a heck of a trade for the Bucs. They didn't have to mortgage everything. And a couple of first-round picks you'll live with for Damian Lillard because he's a huge upgrade and he gives you a legit scoring option other than Giannis. Like, I mean, if things go poorly and they can't get anything going, he was Portland's offense for so long. He can do the same thing in Milwaukee.

Like, if Giannis can't hit, all right, dame time. Let him do his thing. He can go get you 30, 40, 50 points. And, you know, the best part. Is you have multiple guys who can do that.

So now I don't know how you stop a pick and roll with Damon Giannis. And I think Rami's point's right on. Like people out here in DC were like, oh man, Giannis wants out. No, that's the same comments Giannis has made time after time. And he's basically just keeping the organization accountable, saying, if you don't feel like trying anymore, then I'll leave.

But I don't think this is something where they saw those comments and immediately thought that they need to go trade for Damian Lillard. I think this has been the works all offseason. And it's getting closer to the season.

So maybe Portland's like, well, we might as well pull the trigger while we know this is there. And looks like they're going to try and flip Drew Holiday again so they can try and rebuild. But I I really like this deal and I love the fact that they didn't have to give up as much as I would have thought to get Damian Lillard.
