Good afternoon, everybody. Welcome into the Winkler Verse. I have to get myself. more charged because of the little half nap I just took. Really fucked up my day.
I've had a very productive day. This is now the second podcast taping. Of the day tomorrow. Episode tomorrow's episode possessive will feature a first-time guest into the Winklerverse. Trevor Thomas of Wisconsin.
Is going to make an appearance.
So that will drop. On Wednesday. This episode is with Grant Bills. And Paul Imig, it's brought to you by Carl's Place for all your golf simulator desires. I've got one for you off the top.
I'll just get into it if I may. Please. You may have seen. The Photos. That Aaron Rodgers has.
been reacquainted with his family. Wow. All right. Let's go. His mother, his father, and the like.
His w his folks! His folks! All right. There was one person not in these shared pictures. Olivia Muslim.
So, what I'm asking you, Aaron Rodgers reuniting with his family. actually makes it less Likely that he's actually married. Come on. If she. Mm-mm.
Where is she? If she wants to live a private life, he's not going to put a newsworthy story. This is a newsworthy story. Packers reporters reported on it, national media reported on it. It's something you send to friends that are Packers fans.
Whoa, like this is a thing. Um If she wants to be private, you certainly can't put her in these photos. Doesn't mean. I mean, I keep my family private, but. Also, a lot of people have met them.
And also I You don't think Jordi and Devante and David Bacciari have met the Mrs. Rogers? I don't think she exists.
So how could she have met? I think that she. I think that she exist in a way that we can't understand. Are you familiar with the musical Avenue Q? I'm only familiar with the Winkler verse special guest.
Yeah. There's the song, I wish you could meet my girlfriend, my girlfriend who lives in Canada. Because The character's girlfriend didn't exist. George Glass. George class.
What is that reference? That's from Brady Bunch. George? What does she say at first? George lemonade or something.
I don't know. Sure, Jan. I have a boyfriend, his name is George Glass. George Glass. He's from Canada.
Is that really how it goes? Yeah. I think it's pretty much movies very underrated if You don't Oh, that was the movie one? Do they go to Hawaii or something? Yeah, I think that's the sequel.
Okay. And then there's a third where The Brady Dad becomes the President of the United States. What? Yeah, but like no one's even seen it. Anyway, Grant, you were saying.
I was just going to say, on the subject of Aaron Rodgers' alleged wife, I think. I share the disappointment of many listeners to this podcast that somehow we got infrastructure week from Aaron Rodgers before we got it from Bart. I would not have predicted that. Um What do you mean? I.
Yeah. Who do you want on the show? I think he's married. Because I think, why? Why go through all of this if you're not actually married?
What does he stand to gain from this? You know what I mean? George. Tropicana. George Glass I never heard of a George Glass at our school.
Skuel. Um S K E W L School.
So we're on infrastructure week. Let's put it out in the open. We're. Who do you want on the show? Comments, chat.
Because I have reached out. To some of these people. Let's name them. Who's been a no thank you? Steve Zabin.
Yeah. Was it a cordial no, thank you? Yes. I bet he was cordial about it. Bill Michaels?
No, Mike Heller I tried and then Maybe I'll try again. Does he need infrastructure? He, I think, needs infrastructure with me more than I need it with him.
Okay. Or or that makes sense the other way. Don't know. Jason. I don't have any problems with Mike Heller.
I think. Mike Heller doesn't like the cut of my jib.
Okay. Smart guy. Jason Wildie. Wildie, I haven't reached out to yet. You should just do a roundtable episode with multiple Packers people.
You should just do a Green Bay roundtable Winklerverse. It should, honestly, it should be a-man, Wildie, Domofsky, Bart. Yeah. It should be a roast of you by them. That might be the way to get them to do it.
But would anyone agree to that? I mean, come to my podcast and just tell me I'm the worst. That's what I want. I want. Come shit on me.
Everyone else does it. What makes you guys any more above it? The problem is how do you reach out to them if you're blocked by all of them? I don't know. You think Mike McCarthy influenced Rogers getting with his parents?
Probably not. I don't think it's a zero possibility. I think if you're. Grant, you said this about Rogers. Like Before the time of Roger siding with the Steelers, the MacArthur Steelers, I was right.
You were totally right. How did you phrase it? Like, he's a nostalgia or something. He's so nostalgic. He's a romantic, he's a nostalgic.
He wants to just, you know, of course, he's now going to be able to hang out with McCarthy and his guys and remember Tua Days and remember Brady Papinga, and like, it's, you know. We all long for that. The difference is, and not to psychoanalyze Rogers, this isn't entirely fair, but. A lot of people Get past that by getting married and having kids. Sure.
And you stop obsessing so much over your college town and what you did because you just create something so substantial. It drags you. Your wife and kids, it drags you away. You don't have time to sit and wistfully think about the past. Rogers doesn't have that, at least Right.
He doesn't have kids, you know what I mean? Like, even his marriage seems to be a good thing.
Well, you just, you said something that made me think of something. The likely generally how conversations work, but it was a, it was, it triggered like what I think is a really good follow-up. Mm-hmm.
Okay. Rogers reunited with his folks. As a direct result of the fact that he's got a baby coming and he wants to make sure there's a reunion that happens before we want you to be a part of our lives. See? You got to be able to have the grandparents, if you got to have his own parents so that the grandparents can be a part of the baby from the birth on.
Football season will be over no matter how far the Steelers go. By that time period, nine months from now I don't think Rogers is having a child because I don't think he has a wife. Why, again, what does he have to gain by lying about? having a wife. I think he has I think he has.
Someone in his life. Or, like, someone's in his life. Yeah. I think he has the concept of a wife, but it's not an actual person we can look at. You're still going with the piece of paper legal terminology concept.
You're not doubting that he has a significant other, you're doubting that they have. I think he believes he's in a spiritual relationship with something. But there's not a piece of paper that says that this. But we can't understand it on his terms.
So he's dumbing it down for us and saying, I have a wife. Because we wouldn't understand otherwise. We won't understand. And his wife might just be. himself.
Yeah. It might be a circle of friends. You know what? You've not said it might be his massage. Or a therapist.
What you've not yet said in this discussion, though, is this sounds like it's coming from a person who's still anti-Rogers. But you're not. But you still sort of have like these little misgivings about Well, how could you not, Paul? I like him, but I'm just saying if you were brand new to this pod, or you tuned up for the past year when Bart was previously very vocally anti-Rogers and you came back now, you'd say he's still anti-Rogers. But in between, there is like Bart coming around on Aaron.
And now it's there's just like I'm just clearing up like the potential for well. Let me let me let me have this retort. To our friend Bodie. Who posted on my Twitter Imagine Dumping Rogers stock, but holding Giannis stock.
Okay. And I'd like to say this about Rogers. I Love. Aaron Rogers right now. I love that he got us this title.
I love all the good times. I love that he's back with McCarthy. And I love That I'm going to root for him and the Steelers. But to get where I am now. I needed to go through.
The not love. Ah. Because where I would be not, I loved hate. And then come back to love. Where I would be now is indifferent.
If I never hated. Oh. That actually makes a ton of sense. Thank you. Mm-hmm.
Thank you. I think that's tackled in a Louie episode, isn't it? Where it's like, no, the love is the love is about the hate or the longing.
Sometimes to love is to feel bad and to be unhappy. Like, that's that's part of the whole thing.
Well, it means if you're indifferent about somebody, you're not, you never probably felt particularly strong. Love and hate are very extreme emotions, just on different sides of the spectrum. But I also don't know if I get there without the McCarthy. It's a nice tie. McCarthy really does it for me.
It's a nice tie-in. It really is. It's like putting on rose-colored glasses. McCarthy is like putting on a certain or another ingredient in the recipe that makes you rethink the whole thing. You know what I mean?
Like, it's just that little element does really. Uh There's very much a Marvel component to this season for the Steelers. Like Rodgers and McCarthy had their end game. And then they both tried phase four and five, and it was wildly rejected by the audience. And then, so now.
They come back and as doomsday. By bringing back the characters people actually loved the Rogers and McCarthy duo. You gotta be together. Clip that, Tim. And they just kind of skipped over any of the Kang Dynasty stuff that didn't work out.
Can I do a minute on Marvel? Sure. Yeah, well. It's our verse. Go.
Did you buy any merch yet? It's flying off the shelves.
Some guy bought four items. Of what? My merch. Oh, nice. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
You wanna see some? Is he a subscriber? Here's we got we got a polo We got a tank top. Nice. I should probably put this link out so people know where to go.
We got uh sweatpants. Hell yeah. They got a flat brim on there. Why are you not wearing your own merch yet?
Well, I also have to pay for the merch. I don't get free merch. Mm-hmm.
So basically People are going to buy it, and then I'm going to use those funds of profit to buy merch. I mean, you had enough money for that SummerSlam hat or whatever it says.
Well, this was $4 from Fanatics, man. Are you saying the hat or the shirt? SummerSlam 94. The hat on there. I'm excited for Doomsday.
I'm very excited for Spidey next week. I'll be their first showing. Doomsday, I saw a lot of people excited right away with the trailer, and then a lot of backlash. Which always happens because that's where the farming comes. Biggly.
Dude, Danhausen was all over Raw last night. He was in like every angle. Jeez. Like, he's in the women's title picture. They're going to burn him out?
Yeah. Well, they were holding him for a while, and then last night they're just like fucking released the Danhausen. Um Alright, backlash, a lot of backlash. My problem with these movies. is I go into them wanting way too much.
So I don't think, I mean, I'll enjoy the movie. But I want every character in it. Yeah. And I'm worried they're not even going to put like Captain Marvel And Miss Marvel And Monica Rambeau from the Marvels. Who made a fucking incursion, which is what this movie's about.
Go on, Paul. When does that movie come out? December 18th. I went on to the lest you think I haven't bought my ticket yet. I have.
Tickets on the Marcus website yesterday to get tickets for the Odyssey, and it was all Doomsday out. The traffic was slow. And I'm like, I'm just here for the other. The other one. Yeah, I feel like I need to see the Odyssey in theaters.
I was going to wait, but then I remember, as much as I love Christopher Nolan, I've never seen Tenet. And I've never seen Oppenheimer. I've never seen Oppenheimer either. I've never seen Oppenheimer. I've also not seen...
Interstellar? That movie is so fucking good, dude. I don't want to watch it. Never got it. Never was into it.
Not for me. Really? It's too much. It's like, geez, the universe and time. It's like, can we...
Yeah, so I'll never help me for a grounded Spider-Man instead of a. That's it. You want more? I wish all of it I wish all of the Marvel stuff stayed a bit more grounded. And not so like.
constant multi-versing where you have to I mean, you have to be. To truly get what's happening, you have to be really involved. I'm not, that's not a bad thing, but if you're trying to make a giant blockbuster, you're going to have a lot of people who are. Casually to, you know, somewhat above that. Watching it, but then be like, wait, what?
Because even I texted you, I said, wait, remind me why Steve Rogers was such a shock to see. When Thor saw him in the trailer. And by the way, maybe that's not Steve Rogers. I'm sure you've seen, like, the, that's a. I think it is.
Yeah. I mean, I know the proof is that he was able to. Wield what you'd want to say is he was able to wield Molnar. I thought it's Mjolnir. Is it Mjolnir I say it wrong?
Hey, it's Ryan Reynolds here for Mint Mobile.
Now I was looking for fun ways to tell you that Mint's offer of unlimited premium wireless for $15 a month is back.
So I thought it would be fun if we made $15 bills. But it turns out That's very illegal.
So there goes my big idea for the commercial. Give it a try at mintmobile.com/slash switch. Up front payment of $45 for three months, $90 for six months, or $180 for a 12-month plan required. $15 per month equivalent to taxes and fees extra. Marvel should know how to pronounce the. Um Well okay, uh sidebar, before I ask you my brewers mm-hmm. Why is Giannis reinventing his own history and redoing bits? Because he's nervous. And so when you're nervous, you lie.
By the week. And it's not like he left my team. Like, I wanted to try. I think the Bucks, you know, should have done it two years ago. They would have, but like.
I don't I've I've told you this before like I'm really No one likes liars. I'm really turned off by that kind of stuff. And it's not like.
Well, you know, he's nervous, like, no, but like, that's. Really, yuck? You know, I'm really, really bummed.
So, is there anything else besides lying about having an Oreo, or is that? There was the story that he of how he met his wife that he told on some stream, and it was completely different than the way he had previously told the story. In multiple times.
So, like, I don't. Maybe he doesn't maybe he thinks Because the lying about your first Oreo. Is such a minor thing. But it's a revealing aspect of a person's health. But it's such a big, like, it is a big fucking deal.
It's just, it tells you what else is not. True. What else have you completely so it could be where. Like When I Had the national show. It's a new audience from the Milwaukee show.
Yeah. So maybe I have to retell stories. For the first time, and you're like, well, why is he telling it that?
So maybe he thinks he needs to like do all his bits again. Interesting. Because he's got a new audience. That would. That would better connect if your toilet wing story was: oh, I just ate chicken wings in the work bathroom and not 20 years ago.
In the brother's bathroom. Right. You know what I mean? Like if Giannis went to his press conference and said, I'm so thankful to be here. I can't believe I'm on another team.
When I got to America, I hadn't even had an Oreo. Same story, but it makes sense. And like, it fucking makes sense. You know what I mean? I think it's the same thing of, so again, when I.
When you see someone lie about something inconsequential, it probably means they're lying about consequential things.
So I think back to like when he. injured his calf. Like Now, I have more grounds upon now which to doubt anything that you've said or done. I mean, even going back to, like you said, was there anything else besides the Oreo? His w after he had clearly asked out.
He's now admitted to having asked out in the reporting. He's still doing like these. I'm not fucking going anywhere, Wolf of Wall Street memes and stuff.
So, like, my point is: this is a person. Who is lying repeatedly about multiple things that you just don't need to lie about? Like, if in mid-February you want to put out a reassuring tweet about, like, I'm not going anywhere, or like, Milwaukee's my town, like you did after game seven of this past season. Like, okay, like you're gonna try to be uplifting and try to You know, maybe help your teammates. Battle through the whatever.
But when you start going down the Oreo path, now I just you've red-flagged everything. I know Grant gives me like a smile, but like. You're now a person who is capable Of lying about things that just have no business being lied about. And, you know, I don't know. This is a much more like existential discussion about how.
People operate in the world for the long form. I'm not laughing at you. You are right to be frustrated about the Oreo thing. I'm laughing that you used the words the Oreopath. That's what I was laughing at.
I think your greater point is very good. I was just laughing at that connect, that string of words. And insert the Oreopath for the inconsequential detail in one's life that they would find the need to. I mean, and honestly, this is why I thought of it in parallel to what we were saying with. Rogers actually reunited with his folks.
Like, it's intentional misleadings.
Now, Giannis' is not as like. Word choice. I'm going to say folks, people will think I mean parents, I meant friends. It's, but it's in the same path where, I mean, Bar, I keep thinking about this every time when I saw Yana step off of the private plane in Miami. And he looked.
Very You know. Like corporatey, like it's the same thing that actually really bothers me about new WWE CM Punk. Where it's like CM Punk is not the guy who wears the fucking suit and tie and like has the hair and like says all the right things. That's just not you. If that's you, you're lying to yourself, you're lying to your audience, you're a fake, you're a phony.
You can't do one thing and then be the other one. It's like, well, you know, got to get paid. You know, like, you be true to who you are. Tell the truth and just, I mean, it's kind of when we had our authentic conversation, Bart, with you the other week. Like, yeah, well, I mean, like Bart or don't like Bart, it's like he's being authentically himself.
There's no like bullshit. And that's. I wish that was more common amongst people. I think there's with Rogers. There was some He was meticulous about it.
More planful. Yeah, um Although that's the word I'm trying to think of.
So you're manipulative. I think I think you're either giving Rogers more credit. or Giannis not enough credit for being able to like. Workshop. I mean, it's the idea that when you go on a night, a late night talk show.
And then you act surprised by the question that the host asks. Like, you know, come to think of it, when I was on set, I dot dot dot, it's like it's just contrived. I know you've been traveling a lot lately. Yeah, I actually have the perfect joke about it's funny that you say that. I just have like the bitch.
I have a four-minute story on that.
So I think what you're saying is that, like, Rogers would have spent more time coming up with the folks manipulation than Giannis would have spent with a PR team or some management team bullshit of like, hey, you should tell that Oreo story as if it just happened. Rogers always wanted you to think. With Roger, again, I think he thinks he operates at a higher level, and we can't understand it. Yeah. See, but I also think okay, so This is my, this is great.
We don't need like the brewer's topic. When Mark Murphy would go on. We've talked about this before, but like when Mark Murphy would go on during the WIA girls basketball tournament and say something as if the only people listening are the people who are ever going to see this comment are the people currently watching the WIA state basketball tournament. Either He was Foolish. Or he's like, I'm gonna say it here.
I know it's going to get blasted, but then I can just claim, oh, I was just. saying that during the broadcast of this game, you can't blame me for this being. disseminated afterward widely. Um So, like, the manipulation of, like, I guess it just depends how much credit or lack of credit. you're willing to give to A Rodgers or a Giannis or a Mark Murphy.
I still think Giannis is pretty clear. He wants. to know He wants to live two lives. But he can only, you only get one life. He wanted a life where he's in Milwaukee forever.
He also wanted to. Live a life where he goes and explores different things. I don't think, I think he's going to look back. The way that like I look back at college or you look back at anything. where it's like, I was not sure of the decisions that I was making.
So it was I was I was like sloppy with the way that I handled it.
So The story I started saying three minutes ago that I almost forgot: when he stepped off the plane in Miami and he's presenting himself a certain way. I think I keep going back to what you said, and I've got the pencil and paper out now, like you liked that I did the other week, so I could write it down and not forget, is that was Giannis Incorporated. Yeah. When Yannis Became Giannis Incorporated, and there was more to it than just the player. Grant's got his pen out.
Now, this is good. Let me find that when you again, when you become like a brand. You can still choose not to behave like a brand. You can still choose to behave like an individual who just happens to. You know, be of celebrity status, but when you completely, again, this is my this was the thing when we had the LaFleur conversation.
And, like, why did you look this way when you were an assistant coach? And now you look totally different, you present yourself totally differently now that you're a head coach. You're putting on a play, you're a facade, a fake persona that just CM Punk with the suit and tie. Like, you're fucking lying. And now I'm grounds to question everything that you say and do.
JJ Watt missing a guy for a picture and deciding this is the one guy I'm going to go back for. You know what, though? I have to, we have largely agreed on JJ Watt. And like the two and a half, what the bang, the big bang theory stuff. That's That's that that is Does he do that for everybody?
Is he ever going to do that for another fan again? Maybe, probably not, but like that's what about when he got mad at the MLS team for not mentioning his wife in the tweet. He was right to do that too. Fuck that. JJ Watt is on a fucking roll right now.
He got Freddy a hotel room. I don't know this story. I'm not sure if I know this story. That German guy that won't show his face that everyone thinks is a psyop. I don't know about that one, but I do know.
That the soccer team Did it wrong? And I do know that him meeting up with that guy again was. Great. Agree to disagree. Last thing.
You know. This isn't the other note that I took with my pen and paper. We've talked about sports and stuff. You know, and like, how do you, how do you talk about sports, but have it not talk about sports? These past 30 minutes are like the shining example where you can say, like, oh, Giannis is this.
And we didn't even mean to do it, right? We're just talking. But it's the idea that. It's all in the context of what's happening in sports, and it turns into this larger, broader topic. And if only, you know, that was a.
thing that more Folks could folks could um successfully navigate. This is why we're the best. The Winklerverse, you're home for sports and stuff. But meaningful stuff, like that's actually connected to this. I am pro the stuff.
Stuff is good. It just has. How do you say it? It has to just be, you have to know your detour or your, but you don't. Plan the stuff.
Right. Like, I'm not going to come here and say, all right, first topic: when it's too early to mow your lawn. But if it comes up, I got up today, mow my lawn at 7:30, and one of you goes, What the fuck? That's too early. Respect your neighbors.
Follow how it's laid out. All right. Ready for mm-hmm. Very. Yeah.
Best record in baseball. It's time to take the Brewers seriously. As a World Series I don't want to say content. It's time to take the burrows seriously as going to the World Series. We should start to really say.
Yes, the Dodgers and yes, the whatever and they're always blowing the playoffs. But At the hundred-game mark at this point in the season. It's time to take the Brewers seriously as the National League champion. Mm-hmm.
Or mm-mm. What kind of question is that? You don't like it? That's nine to noon material. But I, but I, but.
Mm-hmm.
I'm struggling to get there. Let me do it. I have a way to frame this.
Okay. Go for it. Are the Brewers I wanted you to convince me, Grant.
Okay. Of a World Series contender. Where they would be your make-or-break team if you're taking a few teams and the field. Oh, that's like if I say Dodgers, Yankees. and the field, you're taking.
The field. Yes. But if I see Dodgers, Yankees, Brewers, well, then you're like, oh. You're saying to obviously to win the World Series. Yeah.
Because just on that alone, I'm Well, I'll let Grant go. I can't unlock that door yet. See, and that's why I, I mean, it's not like my most, you know, beautifully wordsmith question that you've. That I've ever come up with, but I would have never publicly shit on it. Like, Granted, he's an ass.
We all know that he's an ass. But the idea is like if you were just Grant later and said that question was bogus. If you have no context. Of anything that's happened prior to the season, you're not like a. You know.
a Brewers fan who's been down this road before, including very, very recently. You couldn't not see what's happening and say like, oh. But because we just, you know, it's hard to get your hopes up because of the existence of the Dodgers and just the baseball playoffs being what they are.
So. Grant, you have how about this? You're ready to try to talk me in or others in to the idea of taking the Brewers seriously as going to going to. World Series this season, yes, because people talk about last year's brewers like they got to the playoffs and tripped over their own shoelaces in the first game and blew it. Guys, they were in the NLCS last year, right?
They were in the series to go to the World Series. They had an exceptionally good season last year, yeah, and succeeded in the playoffs. But because they got swept by the Dodgers the way that they did, people they fell on their face. They beat their rival. In a nasty back and forth five-game series, and then played against maybe the best baseball team I've seen recently who were playing at the top of their game.
Like they ran into Yamamoto, Shohei, and Snell, and all three of those guys pitched the games of their lives. It's like, Sorry, man, you're just, you're probably not going to win that series. I think on balance, big picture, yes, absolutely. Like, this team could make the world series. I have concerns about this specific team.
Relative to like last year, the year before. Like, I don't think their offense is that good, and they haven't been. For five weeks. Um And I have concerns about their pitching, but just in a general big pitcher setup, absolutely, yes.
So The the counter to that is but they have the best record in baseball. Yeah. They're really good at winning games, a lot of them in the regular season. In the regular season. Sure.
But what the s what the Dodgers series showed you. Was Because it is different baseball. Yeah. Yeah, yeah.
So the brewers I don't think they ever give up. I don't think they ever have a mental break. I don't think they ever say scheduled day off. I don't think they ever think travel day. I don't think every team tries 100% all the time or has the focus and the mental.
Like, we have to win today. But the Brewers, they're trying to win every day.
So they are a good team. But then the flaws that they have. that would show up in the playoffs. The Woodruff injury hurts, but also I know. On this Mm-hmm.
We talked about Pitching in October. And I said, Well, Woody's gonna be hurt and you guys said, Oh yeah, duh. Like we knew that was right, we did. Yeah, you're right. Right.
They have to do something. They have to do Something they have to stop being presented with these opportunities. You can't They're winning every race until the last 200, some fucking guy comes behind them and sprints ahead. What's something at the deadline you mean? At the deadline.
And they got a I know it's against, and I know. I mean, I love 95 win baseball. We've got to win 100 games this year. 102 is the pace. But to what end?
Grant, do they need someone? I mean, because again, the it it plays into the fans minds about Yeah, but the Dodgers are in your way. I mean, the players are human too. If they see the Dodgers in the NLC, yes, again, those players who are on the team last year, which is many of the Brewers. That can't not be like some sort of mental roadblock.
Does someone else need to beat the Dodgers before that matchup comes? I think that's the difference. If I told you someone else is going to beat the Dodgers. In the play, like, how much does that change your if we could get the Dodgers in a five-game set and not seven? What you won't because of, well, actually, uh, Probably won't at this point.
Probably. Two other pitchers have a bad outing and you win. Or you could win. Yeah. Well then then if it's a then you have to see Shohei twice.
You know, you have a moto twice. God, I hope so. It sucks that Shoe is having knee issues. I just, I really hope that doesn't become a thing that prevents him from playing at a high level in the postseason. I just hate the thought of some of baseball's biggest stars not being healthy in the biggest games and the biggest series.
Yeah, what a bummer. It breaks my heart, truly. I'm sick even thinking about the possibility. What was your question, Paul? If another team beat him, yeah, but does that change your optimism?
I mean, maybe a little bit, because I think the Dodgers are the best team, but the Braves are also really good. Like, the National League is awesome, the National League is really good. And the Phillies, I I don't believe in the Phillies as much as the Braves or the Dodgers, but they're really good too. And I think all of those teams have. More star power and more slug than the brewers.
And that's that's the Bryce and Stott lead Phillies? Yeah. All-star second baseman. My kid just got a card of Bryson Stadt. I was going to take a picture.
I had my phone and I was going to press to take a picture and send it to you. And then I deemed it not important enough to do that. But it still was deemed important enough to bring it up. I've done that before. I'm going to send this picture to my phone.
No, I fucking don't. Then you put your phone down. Yeah. Um Well, so let's let um What's the concern?
Well, let me ask you this. I think the Brewers being the Brewers. Hmm. I can't separate that. What does that mean?
The past history of the Brewers not getting to the World Series. Sure. That's why I'm trying to see where the amount of convincing that I or others who are. Dipping a toe in the water of, like, yeah, this may, you know, but then you did that last year. I dipped the toe in the two years ago of this is this is the time, 2019.
This is the time. This is the place. 2018, I guess I should say. I guess I don't need the history. Like, is Mizurowski dominant?
And full bore, he's down right now. Is Kyle Harrison healthy in the picture we saw in the first half?
Okay, even if that's the case, which seems like. Maybe it wouldn't be who's number three now without Brandon Woodruff. I think they have two relievers I trust right now. And Abner Uribe is good, and I trust him, but he's not as good as he's been. And their lineup doesn't.
Our lineup's good. They they have a they have a fine lineup. But I um I have no more thoughts on that. I actually would like to propose another question. Let's go.
I just thought of it. And it's something I've been thinking about for a long time. I woke up this morning thinking about legacy. Yeah. Stupid.
How about did you wake up this morning thinking like. This wasn't a failure. This was just like a step in the process to getting better.
Well, didn't I tell you guys I tell you guys last week that like...
Sometimes You know, the musicians that die. Young. Between the musicians that hang on and then put out you know, three-chord opera. Mm-hmm.
Like Neil Diamond. The movies. The movie show. Let's go. There's an alien invasion movie.
who be time. We need someone to save 'em.
Okay. Wish I wouldn't have brought that up. God, it's bad. It's so bad.
So I saw somebody tweet. Or say or write. That messy Should have never been in this World Cup. Because Argentina became Vargentina, VA Argentina. Which is a great name.
It is. They just, I don't think the fix was in, but they did get benefited on. Most of the bullshit. um that happened in this tournament. And then the way they played in the final.
They did nothing. They had no shots, maybe one at the end. But Messi, that's the last time we're going to see him on the World Cup stage. Maybe, I mean it'll be 43 next time, maybe. But if he would have retired at 35, he goes out a winner.
Do you think if you were an athlete at the peak of your, if you were an athlete, Do you think you would be someone that went out on top? Or would you hang on? Like, Rodgers could have gone out, not on top. He didn't win anything, but like, always the example. He won, well, he won a Super Bowl, but then he came back, okay?
He didn't, he went, he risked it, but he went out after two Super Bowls. I'm very, I know the answer to your question. And then Peyton Manning. You know, and Eli Manning almost played himself out of the Hall of Fame. You have an answer.
I've never been able to decide what the answer is. We go from nine to noon to Drew and KB here.
Sorry. Is that a question they would do? This is the greatest. Good palm. Paul has an answer, but I just think Paul would look at the analytics.
You would just need to see the graphs. Uh Like, should I have just quit after my national show, or should I keep trying to do this? Is that really what this is that really what you're doing? No, no, no, no, I have not peaked yet. Hold on though.
Hold on though. And this, I want to answer your question, but I'm going to quick tangent based on what you just said. If you had that show. and then didn't do something for six months. Your first show back.
Would be much bigger than any of your one singular shows during a normal week. Like the absence makes the heart grow fonder. Like Bart comes back. Like, I think bands often make the mistake of like, we gotta keep putting out an album. We gotta keep putting out an album.
We gotta keep putting out. No, put out an album, go bonkers for a year and a half, tour the world, and then disappear. And then, when you come back in three to six years, it's going to be a big deal again. If you put out some shit in between and you keep playing, people aren't going to come to your show every four months that you come back to the same area. Stay away.
then come back and every time you do that. I mean, if you're not sure, Leave sports for two years. It made it way bigger when he came back, but it's also the Marvel idea. If Marvel had just said, hey, we're going to do like, One movie every two years instead of like three TV shows in between, and then one shit movie. Like, the Marvel movies wouldn't have the stain on them that they do.
Like the Simpsons. The Simpsons have been on for almost forty years now. I think less. Like the first Eight seasons of The Simpsons would undoubtedly go down as the greatest television show of all time. For sure.
But there's 32 more years.
So Have you been Happy to see those 32 more years? No. But I have. I've enjoyed some of it.
So I would say that's the only thing that's not going to be. But if you here's the thing, though, if you want it to go on forever, you should want to. Yeah. If you wanted to go on forever. then you should want there to be less Marvel.
Because the quality would be better. It would be a bigger deal. But if I attacked, I get what you're saying. In the arts, but as an athlete, Well, I I I'm yeah, as an athlete. None of us can truly say that.
You're basically saying. B Just only play half the season every year.
Well, I'm saying maybe LeBron is onto something, you know, when like February and March, he comes back. No, but the idea, first of all, none of us can actually answer the question because we've never had. Everything handed to us, and like how simple. It's like, oh, would you keep playing? But when you're, I mean, the hardest thing for so many athletes, especially those who are forced to retire early due to injuries.
It's like now you're just A guy in the world, and you don't have a training staff and a nutritionist, and like coaches like asking you, Hey, you should really go work out, or like, Hey, you know, let's do a weigh-in. Like, it's impossible for us to really know because we haven't lived it. Um, we're Like. It There's a tangent there that I would share, but like The uh from my position. If you if you could retire.
Wouldn't you? Just from your Personal situation. Me. Yeah, like in your if you if you could say like I have enough money to just do whatever I want. Wouldn't you choose that over a grind?
Some people would obviously absolutely say, What a stupid question. I love the grind. That's fine. I think the answer is like... And like, for example, you mentioned the arts.
Like, if an actor gets to the point, or a band gets to the point where they can truly tour for fun. That's awesome. Right. Are you doing it for? I mean, it's honestly, it's LeBron choosing his next team.
He's doing it for happiness, not for money. Even if you're continuing for your fun. You're not going to be as good as you once were.
So then people are gonna think you're like you're it's just a matter of I think my answer is. Play for as long as you can. Because we're all worried about our legacy. No, you're not. I don't give a fuck.
Everyone on earth is going to be dead 100 years from now. Yeah. Legacy. This is probably playing on some fucking robot's face right now You know, in 2097. The really dark lyric that I love to quote when that comes up is from the Hamilton musical, which is: Legacy, what is a legacy?
It's planting seeds in a garden you'll never get to see. I think it's wrong. Lynn Manuel Miranda. That's not his name. What's his name?
Lynn Manuel, Miranda? Can you give me that? Shakespearean-esque line one more time. I can't tell what your tone is right now. Yes, you can.
It's not genuine. Right. So I'm not going to say it again. It's more polite than my tone would be.
So I'm glad Barton's. That's a great legacy. Fuck you. That's a great. That's a brilliant fucking line.
If you're writing Sesame Street, I am really bothered that you would dump on that line. Paul, that's like not much different from Well, you're the only 10 I see. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay. Yeah.
Okay. What is legacy but a It's planting seeds in a garden you'll never get to see. Ah. This was the hottest musical of the 21st century. Lynn, if you're listening.
And I know you are. Call the show. I know you have. Hey, hey, we gotta get out of here. We gotta make like a tree and leaf.
Grant, would you? Retire? Or keep going. I mean, Brad works 13 hours a day. He's out.
I don't know. He just wants his smoke alarm to not go off. I need to do something. I couldn't just- Bart, I think you'd be exceptional. I think both of you would be exceptional at doing absolutely nothing.
I don't think I would be. No, I couldn't do nothing, but I would, but this is actually a perfect example. And I've thought of it many times. Like, Grant, Grant, Grant, why are we doing this right now? You and me?
because I enjoy it. Right. So that's the point is like, if you can do it and it, whether or not you're. Doing it because you like it for free, or you're doing it because you like it, but the only way to do that from a network is like, hey, let's just give. You know.
At former athlete X, three million dollars a year.
So he comes and joins our network. But, like, Shaq, who you know, you see all these clips online about how lonely he is and whatever else, like, he would probably do it for free. He doesn't like it, it's not the money that he's doing it. Yeah, he's like, sure, ESPN, you can. Pay me to come, but he would probably do it regardless, just like we do this regardless, because it's just fun to get together with people that you like talking to.
So if you can, if Rogers or Jordan or LeBron are doing it for that reason, That's great, right? But if it's like, because, but if it's motivated from like, well. you know I've gotta prove for sure that I'm The best longevity quarterback or star basketball player.
So, I guess it depends on the motivations. I think Rogers is definitely going to enjoy this year because it's All of his friends, a lot of his friends.
Well, that's probably why he's kept doing it. That's why when he's with the Jets, he's like, hey, hire this former offensive coordinator. Hey, go sign my best, my former wide receiver. And he probably, the other thing is when you do retire. And you lose the thing you've been doing for 25 years.
I'm not talking about myself. Grant just gave a look. I want to investigate this look.
Well, I think my tone, I have the tone of this direction. Yeah, I need the tone of his setup. But it was not a setup. It very much sounded like I know, I know. That was the look then.
Okay, I got it. I have that problem too.
Sorry, go ahead. But I was going to talk about Tom Brady. What is this motherfucker doing? Yeah, so that the thing, so I'm actually really. Truly Aikman slapping.
Logan Paul? Great. This is great. See, this is what I don't get. Like, is the limelight just that?
addicting and that important That you have to be as Unbelievable. He's already Tom Brady. He's acting like he's trying to be Tom Brady. I don't see that right. That does not make sense to me.
Like, I truly, you see that, and you're like, okay, like, now they're in talks for like a WWE segment or something. Like, Like, act, it's not act your age, it's like act your celebrity status. And he's like taking Saudi money to promote flag football bowl, which is more embarrassing than the WWE thing, by the way. It's all embarrassing. You're Tom Brady.
What is the purpose of anything? He's promoting food he's never going to eat. Like, like, similarly, like, why is Ben Stiller in a grocery store hawking soda or whatever the fuck? Like, you're like, act like Ben Stiller. Ben Stiller shouldn't be in the fucking grocery store hawking his Adam Schefter shouldn't be tweeting out fucking other people's tweets for garbage Elon money.
Like, you're already Adam Schefter. What are you doing? Ben Stiller made night at the museum. He can sell some cookies or whatever. He directed Severance and he shows up at Knicks games and all of a sudden Ben Stiller is fucking Tom Cruise or whatever.
You're too young. You're too young. He did, wasn't he in meeting? No one's son, Grant. No, he's too.
If you think Ben Stiller is like the knight at the museum/slash director of Severance Guy. You're forgetting along came Polly, Grant. You are forgetting a long cane poly. You're forgetting the Ben Stiller show. Mm-hmm.
Never seen it. Look. Mm-hmm.
I gotta go wrap this up.
Okay. When he gets asked about his soda, it's like... Oh, I just have such a passion for, you know, I think, no, fuck you. You threw your name on a fucking can. All right.
I had to get that out. Paul, thank you for your time. Thanks, Paul. He said he had to go. I fucking meant it.
He has disappeared from the street. Were we too mean to Paul about his Hamilton line? It's such a dog shit line. Oh, hey. It's not how you laughed.
I was here just listening, just waiting for you to start being an asshole again. Did we cross a line? No, I just think you're wrong. I can live with that. Yeah.
I don't know. When there's three of us here and two agree, the majority does rule, I think. Tell that to Lynn's bank account, man. Legacy. Legacy What is legacy?
Not a great. I'm very discouraged. I may not trust either of you with art ever again or poetry. Or literature, like you might have just proven. It's Hamilton.
Don't use the L word. And it's, it was nice. We had a moment. No. If there's anyone you're going to trust about art, it should be me.
You might just sell me on this. Spell my name! I be art. Yeah. Now that's a fucking line.
Yeah, that's some shit they'd have to do. Jim clip it. That's a fucking lie. I be art. Hmm.
Yeah. Thanks for stopping into the Winklerverse. Don't do it. Yeah. Good morning students.
