Heather O’Reilly, World Cup and soccer Olympic Champion, on this fast paced tournament and the opportunity at a HUGE amount of money.

How much fun was it to play in the soccer tournament? How does she feel about the team and their chances at bringing home the win? How does she feel about the US getting another win any time soon in the World Cup?

Hey, that's pretty mean. There's always a new reason to play. Cash prizes every day of the week. P-U-L-S-Z.com. Pulse in your pocket, you can play anywhere.

P-U-L-S-Z.com. Next, well I guess it's next, June 7th through the 10th at Wake Med Soccer Park in Cary. A pitch she knows very well and she joins us on the Adam Gold Show. I watched you guys play last year. I was at your match.

Hi Adam. Yes, well thank you. And too bad you weren't the lucky charm last year, but perhaps this year you will be the difference maker. I will be there.

I like our chances a little bit better this year. I will say that. I just want to say, because I was at two of your matches, but I was at the match against Rexham. And the best performance I saw of anybody in that tournament was your goalkeeper. And she gave up.

I think that is a very fair and accurate assessment. I don't know how many goals she gave 10. Did she give up 10 goals? It could have been 30. It was 12 now. It was 12 now.

It could have been. I mean I can't believe how many amazing saves she made. My son who is, I reference him all the time, he's a goalkeeper. He plays for a different club. But we were sitting behind the net and he was laughing at how good she was.

So I hope he had the same keeper. Lindsay Harris, she's actually applying her trade right now in Saudi Arabia of all places who have a new women's league and are paying some nice contracts. So Lindsay's been training in the desert and she thought that maybe it was just a one and done opportunity. But now she's getting the call back for year two, Adam. And we're excited to have Lindsay because yes, I'm a competitive person, but I can definitely humbly say that she was our MVP.

And she was the first person that I called to get back again. I mean we were out there for three full days and I didn't see anybody play better than that. I mean we saw great players, but what she did was absolutely bonkers how good it was. How much fun was it to play in the soccer tournament?

People who don't know, let me just quickly set it up. It's smaller field, fewer players, smaller goals, faster pace, shorter games. It's almost like indoor soccer, but outdoors for how quickly.

And then if it's tied, they take players off the field every couple of minutes. We saw matches get down to two on two, which was just hysterically fun to watch. What was it like to play in the event? Yeah, it was awesome. As soon as I heard about the event, I was interested last year and that was even before it was in Cary.

And then I read that Cary was going to be hosting it. I'm like, I was all over it. I was like, this is like a dream come true for somebody that's especially a retired player, but I still like to knock it around. You know, I still play lunchtime. We call it noon ball, even though we play at like 10 30 in the morning. Still called noon ball here in Chapel Hill with the men's soccer coaches, women's soccer coaches. He must be out there a few years ago, but he's he's retired from noon ball. So, yeah, I still love the game and I love to play any opportunity that I have.

So what a dream for me that this this event was in my backyard, more or less. And last year was a blast because I put together, you know, it was called U.S. women. So I put together mostly players that played for the U.S. women's national team. A lot of current players just contractually could not play. Right. If you're a professional player right now with the courage, for instance, for instance, you know, you have contractual obligation. Then, you know, just in case you get hurt and things like that, most clubs would not release a player for something like that. So it was mostly an amateur event, you know, mostly and and players that were maybe in their off season.

Like Como FC was a team or Como 1907 rather was a team on the obviously men's team that came over from Italy. And they were sort of they made a summer summer trip out of it to compete, try to win and and had a good time over here in North Carolina. So we had a blast here to answer your question, Adam. We had a good time.

We you know, it's a good promotional opportunity. It's exciting soccer for the fans is a good way to connect with the community. And like you said, it was like gold galore. And the scoring was it was super fun. So, you know, we miss Golden Goal. Golden Goal was the best in soccer. I think when you score at the end of the game and everybody rushes onto the field. But we've recently gotten rid of that in the professional game and we play out the overtime.

So for me to have that target scoring was super fun because it's going to end with a goal every time. And this year, the first ever women's tournament. So last year we got our butts kicked as we were the only women's team. But this year there's a women's bracket. So eight teams are they have eight spots. So I have a one in eight opportunity, Adam, to win a million dollar purse.

Not just myself. I'm not going to get every every every cent of it myself. I got to distribute it to my team and staff and things like that. But one in eight chance to win a million dollars. So that means, like we were just saying, somebody is going to kick in a goal worth a million dollars. Oh, I hope it's going to kick in a goal.

I hope we do get a golden goal. That's right. It is. It's an Elam ending type thing. So there there is a target score. I was trying to remember why we got down to where they take players off. It's that when we get to a target score, which is a great way to end. I actually think it's a good way to end basketball games so we don't have trips, you know, parades to the foul line. But yeah, this is a great way to end a soccer match and a goal ends it.

Goal ends every match. It is a brilliant thing. We're actually going to talk to John tomorrow.

John Mugar, the the guy who created this whole thing. But this is so much fun. You have a twelve point five percent chance. That's the most math I can do without a calculator.

Twelve point five percent chance of winning it. Probably better because you're going to stack the team, right? I'm going to try. You know, I am the captain and the GM. And of course, you know, I will insert myself into the lineup as well because I'm just, you know, and I'm not just competitor like that. I'm going to try to assemble a great team, right? Like there has been recently a lot of household names, Carly Lloyd, Ali Krieger, Julie Earth. I just retired from professional play.

So obviously they are not as rusty as somebody like myself and retired three years ago. So I really hope that I'm able to get them. They've all shown a lot of interest. You know, everybody is like, oh, I'm not sure what's going on in my schedule in June.

I'm like, guys, this is a million bucks for four hours of soccer. You know, we have group play and then a semifinal final. And so we have a really nice chance of winning. So I hope that they just agree to do it.

It's going to be awesome. We had a blast last year from a social level, but also U.S. women is a special entity, right? I mean, the U.S. women's national team, like it stands for something.

It means something through the years. We've been carrying a mostly winning culture and a culture of, you know, game changers. And in a lot of ways, whether that's equal pay or standing for some social issues and different things, right? The U.S. women's national team through decades has led a lot of charges. And so I'm super proud that I put together a team last year of a lot of my former teammates, Mia Hamm, Michelle Akers, Carla Overbeck, they came out on the staff. And so this year, not only will I get the gals back together, like I said, but this year it's it's for an equal prize as a men's team.

And so good on the tournament, just a near to to say, like, we want to do this. We want to do it right. Let's have equal prize money for the women's and men's side, which we know has been a big topic in global soccer.

In terms of a World Cup payout money right now is very unequal and FIFA at the World Cup. So the tournament organizer said, we're going to do this. We're going to do it right. It's going to be a women's division.

It's also going to be a million dollar purse. And yeah, right now there's only 18 spots. So, you know, get your team in there if you're listening to this and you want to take part in it. But I'm sure that that number will grow next year and the tournament will continue to grow in popularity. Heather O'Reilly is joining us. The men's tournament is already going from 32 to 48 teams, if I'm not mistaken. So that field is getting bigger.

Yes. The women's tournament will get bigger and bigger. I want to go back to something you, whether you glossed over it or not, you almost put past tense. It sounded like past tense when you said a winning culture with the women's national team. And I don't know that you meant that necessarily or not, but that's the way I heard it. So my mistake, if I'm not, if it's not true, but it didn't go well at this most recent World Cup, right?

It obviously what they scored what one goal in group play. Right. And so there was a lot of a lot of things said. And there is a new head coach. So Emma Hayes is coming over from Chelsea. She's, I think, the highest paid women's coach in the world now. So there are going to be a lot of expectations there. What do you think changed or was it simply the natural evolution or the natural gap between eras of this incredibly successful multi-decade run? And now there's just almost entirely new players.

Yeah, I mean, I think I think you said. Cash prizes every day ads up when you play at Pulse Casino, pulse.com over 700 casino style games and counting and no terrible lounge singer promise. That's pretty mean. There's always a new reason to play cash prizes every day of the week. P u l s z.com pulse in your pocket. You can play anywhere. Lucky land casino asking people what's the weirdest place you've gotten lucky lucky in line at the deli, I guess hide my dentist's office more than once actually do I have to say yes, you do in the car before my kids PTA meeting really? Are you feeling lucky? No purchase necessary. We're going to be by law 18 plus terms and conditions policy website for details. It mostly accurately what I would say, Adam, and that is there is a natural evolution. I mean this area and the U S I say this area in particular because Anson Dorrance was such a figure in this, you know, building UNC women's soccer early days, like eighties nineties. And just having this, this history of success and excellence. And that led the U S women's national team to success and excellence, you know, winning.

He was a coach in 1991 when they won the world cup. And so, uh, the U S led the charge for a long time. And a lot of that was due to title nine. And, uh, you know, obviously the opportunities for females to play year round to have good facilities, to have good coaches and that sort of snowballed and led to a lot of success. And as we know, winning breeds winning, right?

You, uh, you know, you do it once you get a taste of it and you want to continue to get yourself back there. And that happened for the U S team for a long time. And I'm not saying in past tens, like it's done and dusted, but the rest of the world has caught up, which is a great thing because now these women are being paid to be a professional athlete. Like even, you know, six, seven years ago when I was over in England, I played for arsenal in 2017 and 18.

And it was still like very much amateur and I'm going over there and I'm like, looking at this, I'm like, this is a sleeping giant. Like, you know, you have the culture for football, you have the facilities, you, these women know about the game. Um, they just need a chance to be professional, like in terms of the way that they're viewed, the way that they train. Um, and believe it or not, like you put some resources in and then the English team is winning the euros and now competing for world cup titles and arsenal. Chelsea man city are, are some of the top clubs.

So, um, the rest of the world has caught up. You know, Spain is fabulous, France, fabulous, Germany, Sweden, all teams that can compete with the U S so listen, it's not past tense as in like the U S will never win again. I think that they have a great chance to win again.

I think they're going to be in the top five for a, you know, a long time. Um, but it's going to be difficult to win, you know, world cups. Like it, it just is, there's a lot of talent across the globe, but Emma Hayes is a fantastic coach. She's been the manager of Chelsea for like the last 10 years. And, uh, and she's a winner, she's a winner, she's a competitor.

And I think that this was the ideal, uh, hiring. And so I couldn't be more excited for the future of the U S team. They, they did dip a little bit with the results of the Olympics and the world cup, but I definitely don't want to say past tense.

Like their time is done. Uh, they will definitely be back and she's the woman in charge of it. She, she has familiarity also with the U S system because she spent a fair amount of time here. So this won't be somebody, it won't be necessarily like a, what a Jurgen Klinsmann was like coming over here and trying to blow everything up. Uh, so she gets what everything here is about. Uh, and I don't know, I guess you, you wouldn't want to see her coaching one of the other T eight teams though, in the soccer tournament. She would be somebody I would be, um, worried about playing it. I would love if Chelsea sends a team over though. Uh, you know, obviously she's not with, she's with them until the end of the season.

Right. But I would love if Chelsea sends a team over, you know, I'm not sure if it would be their first team players or maybe some, you know, um, youth players. Um, but I think that some of these huge global clubs would really benefit from playing in TSD. First of all, for the players, that's a pretty nice payday for, you know, four days of work. Um, and you get to play football with your friends and, um, and you know, enjoy scoring goals in front of a crowd.

I think it's a pretty cool thing. So I would love if Chelsea or Man City or Liverpool would step up and send a team over. Um, I'd say bring it on with, uh, with Chelsea, we'd have to worry about financial fair play, but that's another story altogether. Heather O'Reilly, we'll let you go here. I appreciate your time. Uh, hopefully we'll talk to you again before we get to the soccer tournament because, uh, it's, it's all the way in June. So, uh, I appreciate everything and good luck in the future, but we'll talk to you again down the road. All right.

Thanks, Adam. And as always, go heels. You got to go.
