Brett Pesce, Carolina Hurricane, on getting married this summer and being up on the chopping block at the same time.

How do you explain what the feeling is being back in the Canes locker room, especially when the option of him NOT being a Cane was a real option? What went through his head when they signed Orlovsky? How prepared does he feel going into this year for the team’s chances on going for the Stanley Cup again? Vegas has the Carolina Hurricanes as favorites. What’s the significance of that to Brett? What’s it like for Brett just to do simple things, like go to the grocery store or grab dinner? Is there a responsibility for, not only being the favorite, but to come through this year?

ChumbaCasino.com. The Carolina Hurricanes will open up the preseason tomorrow. I have no idea if Brett Pesci is going to be in the lineup. I spent Thursday pretty much all day out at Hurricanes training camp.

It was the first day. Mostly because I wanted to have a sit down with Brett Pesci because this has been a really interesting summer. There's been a lot of great. He got married and then the rumor mill because he is entering the final year of his contract.

And everybody thought he was going to get traded. Anyway, here's my, at least part of my conversation with number 22. This had to be A, the best summer of your life.

Congratulations on getting married. But at the same time, there's the hockey side of this. And I know this had to be kind of a difficult summer for you.

So in the words of Brett Pesci, what was the summer like? There's obviously a lot of ups and downs. Talked about the ups first.

Yeah, the ups. Yeah. Got married. Chilled out. Played a lot of golf. Went day to day.

That was awesome. Yeah, I really just enjoyed my time away from the rink for a bit there. And yeah, the downs obviously. Why did you go right to the downs?

Talk to me more about the ups. Explain to me. I saw this video about you as a kid relieving yourself in your hockey uniform. Yeah, when I was a kid, my brother gave me a speech. That was pretty interesting. Why was that on Twitter? I don't know why. I'm assuming it had something to do with my father's Twitter.

I think it was. Yeah, when I was younger, I had a weak bladder. You don't have to get into it. I don't want you to get right to the stuff that's kind of a bummer. And it's not a bummer yet. And I hope it's never a bummer. Appreciate that.

I know that when we have this give each other a hard time type of relationship, and that's cool. But I care a lot about the fact that you were the first guy here. Jordan was here, right? But you were the first of the core. You got here before Jacob. You got here before Turbo.

You got here before Sebastian. All these guys. That should mean something, I think. Appreciate that.

What are your thoughts on Brett Pesce and the future of the Carolina Hurricanes? Yeah. Obviously, this is all I've known. And this is where I want to be for the rest of my life. And my wife loves it here. And I really can't picture being anywhere else, to be honest.

But obviously, stuff happens, and it's kind of the crappy part of business. But I'm here, and I'm excited to be with my brothers and my teammates. And I'm just kind of taking it day at a time. And at the end of the day, I want to compete for a Stanley Cup with these guys. And like you said, I've been here for a while. I've been through the ups and downs, for sure. And I want to see this through. I mean, again, people should know. You were the first.

You got here, what was it, two weeks before Jacob? So when you walk into that, it's not a defenseman room, because it's one big room. But all the D, basically, are on the same side.

How do you explain that core? Oh, my God. It's incredible. Just looking around, you see, obviously, you got Orly now, and we got Tony D back.

And oh, man, it's cool. We got nine guys that can play. And it's going to be exciting. Obviously, you don't expect injuries, and you don't hope for that. But it's a long year, and stuff happens. So I think everyone's going to get to play. And you need that depth to go far in the playoffs. And I think over the years, we've learned that, guys getting hurt and whatnot.

So yeah, just super excited about this decor, for sure. What went through your head when they signed Orloff on the first day of free agency? First of all, I'm like, what? The Hurricanes did what? Because free agency has not been something that this organization has dipped into, at least right away. I mean, there have been free agents, but certainly not, wait, the number one defenseman and one of the top two offensive, gritty goal scorers.

Who is this team? So what went through your mind when they signed? No, honestly, I was super pumped.

Obviously, throughout the whole summer, I was always hoping to be here and kind of expected to be here. And that was my mindset. And he's just a great addition. When you can get a player of that caliber, you're only going to increase your team's odds to win it all. And you're going to be that much better. So yeah, I was excited.

I mean, again, I told this to Tony. There are seven guys in your room that are top four NHL defense. Seven.

And there's not a team in the league that has that. All right, so wait, are you gaming on a Chromebook? Yeah, it's got a high res 120 hertz display, plus this killer RGB keyboard, and I can access thousands of games anytime, anywhere. Stop playing. What? Get out of here. Huh? Yeah, I want you to stop playing and get out of here so I can game on that Chromebook. Got it.

Discover the ultimate cloud gaming machine, a new kind of Chromebook. I'm not sure you're aware of this. The hurricanes are the Vegas favorites to win a stand. What is the significance of something like that? Honestly, it doesn't mean anything to me. I mean, let's be real.

But I guess it's, I don't know. I guess it's cool, you could say, just for the start of the year. Just, you know, everyone has a lot of respect for us clearly. And I think we've deserved that up until this point. But at the same time, haven't gotten over that hump yet. So boys are excited and we're ready to roll and hopefully we can get the job done this year.

The, because I mentioned that you were the first one here, so no playoffs year one, year two, year three, right? What has been the evolution from when you got here to where we are right now? Just a complete 180, man.

I mean, it's, I try to talk to it, talk about it just with friends and family sometimes. And it's kind of hard to believe where this organization has came from, right? And, you know, and my first few years it's, you play the New York Rangers and it's almost like a neutral game. Right. And at times it still is.

There's a lot of Rangers fans who wear hurricane jerseys the next night. Yeah. We don't like those people, but no, man. I mean, even going downtown, I remember, you know, you wouldn't get recognized. You could blend in, just kind of do whatever you want. Now it's just, it is totally different. You walk into a grocery store, there's people coming at you and just the energy around this, this city of, you know, how everyone's behind the canes is just, it's, it's incredible. And that's just, that's another reason why I want to stay here so bad.

It's just, I've seen the change and I think it's only going to get better. Do you think you'll have to pay somebody to do your grocery shopping? No. Yeah. I enjoy talking to the people. I don't mind.

I mean, cause like I've got a little time in the afternoon and I would be happy to do Brett Pesci's grocery shopping. Nah, my wife does that anyway. Okay. So does she get recognized now too? No, she does.

She lays in the weeds. All right. Is there a responsibility for being not just a favorite, but everybody knows this team is good. Is there a responsibility to come through?

Yeah, a hundred percent. We owe it to the city. Obviously our ownership has done a heck of a job and management of getting the talent that we have in this room and we're at the cap every year where, you know, they, they want to win just as bad as us. But like we have, I thought personally we've had the teams to do in the past, the past few years now and haven't gotten done.

So we definitely owe it to this city who has been behind us now for a while and with us every step of the way. You need to score more goals. Yeah. I think it's, it's, it's been a Brett Pesci problem. Not enough goals.

I agree. Not enough goals from you. I got to score more this year. Hey, thanks for sitting down. All right, Adam.

Appreciate it. Brett's awesome. He sounds fun.

Oh man, it's absolute. I can't tell you how, how I'm rooting so hard for him, for it to work out here. And I've said this before, that to me, there's not a lot of loyalty in sports. Loyalty works both ways. And I know that a lot of times people want their favorite players to be loyal to their team.

It is a business, but the loyalty works both ways. This is not about going forward. This is not about next year.

Business decisions will be made on both sides and we want the business decisions to be fair. But this, if this team wins the Stanley Cup, what would be fair is if Brett Pesci is a part of it. Of the core, he was the first one. I think he deserves to be a part of it. And I'm rooting for that. Again, he's also a super stand-up guy.

And so I'm rooting for Brett Pesci. I used to be ashamed of my toenails. I thought I was destined to wear socks and tennis shoes through the heat of the summer and hide my toes in the sand at the beach. But then I heard about Nonex Nail Gel. It tackles the problem of unsightly nails by clearing out yellowing keratin debris buildup. With regular use, Nonex Gel breaks down and removes this debris so nails look clear. I confess I was skeptical in the beginning, but I stuck with it, using Nonex Gel twice daily. Actually, I was surprised how generously sized the bottle is and how long it lasts. A while ago you could look at my nails and, well, glance away.

But not anymore. Now my toenails look better than ever, and I'm wearing sandals again, thanks to a simple, natural gel. If your toenails are an embarrassment, try Nonex Nail Gel. It's available in the foot care aisle of your drug store, mass retailer, or supercenter.
