Danny Kanell, former Florida State football player, now a member of CBS Sports joined Adam to discuss the expectations of the league after a successful showing in week one. He feels that the conference has been criticized for its lack of talented teams, but in two nationally televised games, Florida State and UNC represented well. Now, it's up to the other schools to do their part.

Sirius XM does morning radio. I can't believe you're still awake and I know you have three kids, so he's on the radio with us right now. Danny, have your feet touched the ground after Sunday night? No, not at all. I'm still like walking around my house doing the tomahawk chop, you know, singing the war chant.

Oh, don't do that. You know, all over the place, man. I'm still on cloud nine. I was actually in Tallahassee on Tuesday night to speak to the Tallahassee Quarterback Club.

Wow. And man, what a good day I picked because it was the easiest talk I've ever given. Everybody was in a great mood. It was awesome.

It was. But we're going to talk a little bit about State Notre Dame here in a second. Danny is joining us, thanks to our friends at BET Online. We'll talk about the Wolf Pack as a little bit more than a touchdown home underdog. But I know how you have tried to carry the flag for the Atlantic Coast Conference in football for a long time. It was a lot easier, even though we can spin Duke Clemson as, hey, Duke's good. I think Duke is. But it was certainly a good weekend, especially when you couple the FSU game with North Carolina's win over South Carolina.

Yeah. What the heck's wrong with Virginia? They couldn't complete the trifecta and get a win over Tennessee. We'll take it easy on them that we got a long way to go. Can't can't be greedy out of them. What we want.

You're 100 percent right. Like it feels, you know, it's kind of been a quiet story. And I think it is a story because the ACC has been battered so much and criticized for the lack of talent. And one thing that I've always heard is, well, you've got to win those big games.

You know, you've got to win those. Well, didn't we see that, you know, to nationally televised games and prime time, you know, with North Carolina coming up big. And it wasn't close. Right. Like the dominance with which they played.

And again, Florida State, LSU, which wasn't close. Like, we can't get that. And you know what else?

You know what else, Adam? That was refreshing. There were no duds, you know, like because in the past we've seen, you know, Virginia Tech lose to Old Dominion.

Instead, they beat him by 20 points. You know, like there's just a couple duds out there. Well, in Boston College did have a dud, but we'll just overlook that one. But you know what I mean? Like, there'd be several of those and you'd be like, oh, what happened?

But no, the ACC handled their business. And I thought it was a good weekend. And boy, I tell you what, I'm just gonna give you a little preview. If, and this is a big if, if you see Miami beat Texas A&M, I got some, I got some drafts already composed in my Twitter feed. Like, they are just ready to get fired away and take some shots at the SEC because, man, do we hear about it when they dominate, you know, non-conference matchups. At Danny Connell on Twitter, the machine gun tweets should, should the Hurricanes at home, by the way, beat Texas A&M. Look, hey, if App can go to Texas A&M last year and win, then Miami should be able to beat the Aggies on their own field in, I guess it's not Carl Gables. They play in wherever the Dolphins are. Yeah. But if middle Tennessee can go into Miami Gardens like they did last year and get a win, I'm kind of worried about the Kings as well.

So we can play that game both ways. Danny Connell is joining us here on the Adam Gold show. I want a big picture this about ACC football because for the last several years, and by the way, when you were at Florida State, you know, when, you know, Florida State was running roughshod on the ACC for, you know, how until they finally lost the game, was it at Virginia? When was it more?

Sorry about that. Never heard the quarterback once, I hope. Warwick doesn't stop at the goal line. But, you know, when they weren't losing ever, I mean, Clemson went through that for the last several years. And most of the time, you know, we're looking around the ACC going, where are the football schools? Where was Florida State? Where was Miami? Where was Virginia Tech?

You know, you guys have to help out. Don't just leave it all to Clemson. But now that Florida State looks like they are back, and you'll have to speak more on that, you know, maybe Virginia Tech is the portal's been good to them. And maybe they will have turned it around and start on their road back. If the football schools can play well, there's a lot of good football schools in this league.

There absolutely are. And unfortunately, this has driven me nuts. You know, in my career as a broadcaster, brands matter. You know, like I don't like that because a lot of, you know, conferences thrive on their brands. And you get, when a big brand is good, it just feels better. And when you get beat by another brand, it doesn't hurt as bad. Like, so when a Florida State loses to a Miami, right? If Miami is good, it's like, well, that was a tough game. They're both good. You know, but like one of them are down.

It just doesn't, it doesn't resonate as well. And you mentioned Virginia Tech. It's a great example. Like when Virginia Tech is good, which hopefully they're on, you know, took a step in the right direction.

Like that's a great thing. You need to showcase, yes, your brands, your top brands, you also need to showcase depth. And I think that's what Florida State, or excuse me, that's what the ACC is showcasing early, is a really deep conference. You know, that, that the where, because I, you know, in the national narrative around the ACC is, oh, it's a cakewalk. No, what an easy, you know, look at Florida State or Clemson forever. Clemson's schedule, they're like, oh, look at this cakewalk. They can't lose. If they lose one game, they're out.

They can't get into the playoffs. Well, now you're starting to look at it and say, well, man, if Clemson gets beat by Florida State, that's not an awful loss. Like, yeah, they should, big, big, they could win, you know? So like, it's just the perception of the conference because of the brand.

It does matter. So a weekend like the ACC just had should be celebrated and, you know, shouted from the mountaintops. As much as I don't like it, you kind of have to just, you know, to brag on the league a little bit because it helps everyone. Like, it helps everyone in the conference. No question about it.

It really does. Danny Cannell is joining us. Cover three podcast, Sirius XM, CBS Sports.

Here, thanks to our friends at Ben Online. Let me get to the Wolfpack. NC State, I watched the game against UConn. You were in the studio for that game.

That was, that was a fun treat. And all I could think of was, hmm, Notre Dame's going to run the ball a lot on the Wolfpack. How do you see this one?

I know the, the line is what, just seven and a half. So not a, not a mismatch, but Notre Dame is a road favorite. And Sam Hartman is certainly familiar to a lot of Wolfpack fans. He absolutely is. Do you know how many times Sam Hartman has won at Carter Family Stadium? I mean, he's played like 18 years already, you know, at Wake Forest.

But he has not won yet and he has not fared well. So like that is a very, I love this game. I think it's awesome. I think it's a fun game. That seven and a half, I would take the Wolfpack with the points for like an official pick. I also like the under, which is something I don't know.

It's 51, which is a little bit lower scoring. That was probably the surprise to me watching NC State UConn was one of the biggest off-season hires, I think, in the country was Robert and I, you know, hired as the offensive coordinator for Dave Doran, reuniting with Brendan Armstrong. Sure story you guys have been all over. But like when he was, when they were together at Virginia, he threw for 400 yards a game and they were like, oh man, this is going to be fun to watch.

They're going to open it up. And we didn't see Brendan Armstrong lighten it up in the passing game. He was lighting it up on the ground. Like he led the team in rushing and they're like, where does this come from? It was a little bit clunky.

I think that's normal. I think the one thing I love about Brendan Armstrong is he did whatever it took to win. And I think that's probably like the best testament, best testament you could play to a quarterback is like he got some gritty yards, ran over a dude in the end zone.

Here's what I love. That's a pretty good test for NC State. They passed it. Notre Dame's had two really, it's not a slight to Navy, but I don't think Navy's going to be very good this year. Then they came out against Tennessee State and FCS opponent blew them out.

They're all of a sudden, they're going to get tested on the road. Carter Finley is a tough place to play. And Dave Dorn has a, you know, he's a defensive minded coach who knows how to prep his team. They're physical. I think they'll do better because I clearly think Notre Dame is going to try to run the football.

But like, that's why I like the under, but in a lower scoring game, I do think NC State can keep it within that touchdown. And you know, I know you're a fan of the cover three podcasts. There might have been a money line sprinkle or two on the wolf pack. So yeah, I think I like the wolf pack where they sit. I'm a regular to the cover three podcast.

I'm an absolute regular. You know that. Danny Kanell, before we have to say goodbye, let me get your thoughts on a couple of other games. While neither of these colleges matter here, there is a former coach of the Carolina Panthers, Matt Ruhle, who is trying to turn Nebraska around. They are at Colorado and we all know that Deion Sanders means what he says. I have enjoyed Deion as the coach of Colorado. He is certainly giving people a lot of reason to root against him and that's fine. Deion has always kind of done that, but they were so impressive, maybe not defensively at TCU. I'm in love with Travis Hunter. To me, he should be one of the Heisman favorites at this point because he's going to play both ways all year long unless he gets hurt. How do you see that coming out? Adam, I don't love Travis Hunter one bit.

I'm like a scorned woman who's just bitter. Oh, that's right. He was the number one ranked recruit coming out. He was a Seminole all his life. He's like all garnet gold and then to everybody's surprise, Mike Norvell is included at Florida State. He flipped at the last minute and went with Deion to Jackson State and I guarantee you part of that deal was just follow me wherever I go and he did. He is a phenomenally talented player. It was so much fun to see what he did even though I was bitter when I was watching it.

He played over 130 snaps. It was insane. Now, I know I'm on here with Ben online and I want to promote people to go there and check out the lines and and and make your wagers but I don't know if they're going to like this Adam. I am running as far away from this game as I can because it scares me. So here's so like there by the way, there is a ton of money coming in on Colorado. Sure line swing has been unlike anything we've ever seen before the season Nebraska's look at line was about a touchdown maybe even over at eight or nine points. Now we swung 10 points around to where Colorado is a favorite in this game. And this scares me because I still like I love what Colorado did I was wrong, but I am not going to double down and say well, you know prove it to me again. And yet I'm not just completely sold that all of a sudden they're going to walk through every opponent.

They have you know, like so nothing would surprise me in this game. I don't have a really good lean on it. I would guess maybe the under because I do think Nebraska their quarterback struggled mightily.

I mean Georgia Tech former Georgia Tech quarterback. I think they've got to try to slow the game down to have a chance. So I think they'll try to run the ball Colorado's defense didn't look great against TCU especially against the run. So I lean the under but I don't like a side because I just you know with the on just sit back grab some popcorn and enjoy it like so because I would be pissed off if I took one side was wrong in this one, but I think a lot of people are emotionally betting it because a lot of people love them, but he's also got a lot of haters and that's you know, that's fun. But my goodness don't bet with your emotions.

No, you should never do that. By the way here people are betting against Matt rule. That's what that is. What people do do here real quick thoughts on Carolina and App State over minutes of 58 the total I go over this one all day. Remember this game last year is a ton of fun. And I am when you think we would have said that maybe App State is a tougher out than South Carolina. I think South Carolina could be in for a long year.

Their offensive line was atrocious. You know that credit to Gene Schisick thrilled that they got that offense ironed out, but this game I think is a little bit of a trap game. Although the way last year unfolded. I think it really helps Mac Brown and getting his team down right back dialed in but I know Drake may and his weapons. Hopefully we get test Walker situation cleared up because that's ridiculous.

I know you've talked a lot about that. But I think it'll be another higher scoring affair. I really think UNC will put up the points that we expect to see and I think App State will too.

I like North Carolina to win, but I think it'll be a higher scoring affair once again, but it won't quite be 63-61 like we saw a hundred and twenty five or whatever it was last year. Yeah, I think it'll go over the total. Danny Canell, I appreciate your time cover three podcast Sirius XM bet online. I appreciate it, man. We'll talk again down the road. Best to you and your family.

I'll talk to you soon. Thanks, Adam. Appreciate it, man. Have a great weekend. You too.
