Scott Dupree, Greater Raleigh Sports Alliance, on the agreement that was approved this morning and its impacts to the Triangle/state as a whole.

How well would a soccer venue work within these renovations? What kinds of attractions may be added to the region surrounding PNC Arena? What will happen to the tailgating areas?

Today has been a great day for the state of North Carolina, and they extended a lease agreement with the Carolina Hurricanes for an additional 20 years. After this year, the Hurricanes are going to develop the land around PNC Arena into something that everybody can be thrilled about. There is going to be retail space. There is going to be a music venue. There is going to be a ton of things to offer for all of the people who go there, for state fans, because it's going to be adjacent to this whole complex. And with it, we're going to get another stadium game within five years, and there is going to be an all-star game coming. And because all of this really matters, I thought, let me reach out and we'll spend about three minutes with my friend Scott Dupree from the Greater Raleigh Sports Alliance.

He's the man in charge. I apologize for being late with you, Scott, but in the couple of minutes that we do have, just your thoughts on what this means for the future of big events. We know we do great big events well here anyway. What this means for the future of big events in our town.

Sure, Adam, thanks for having me on. Obviously, just an absolute historic day for the sports and entertainment industry here in the Triangle and in the region. I'm not sure which is bigger today, whether it's a $300 million investment into the building, or whether it's Gel Force's massive commitment to the development around the building, or securing the canes in Raleigh through 2044. And also going along with that, no more rumors every other day from Canada about leaving for Quebec. So at least that's done for a while. But to answer your specific question, Adam, this opens the door now to more major events in this market. One thing that was mentioned this morning was the NHL All-Star game returning here a few years after this was completed. The All-Star game was not coming back to PNC Arena unless something like this was going to take place. Also, just to throw out another example, NCAA basketball is a priority event for this market every few years, and this needed to happen in this building for us to remain competitive in a very, very competitive world of bidding for March Madness. Those are just two examples of many.

We have about two minutes here before I have to let you go, and again, I apologize. The cities like Nashville or Memphis or Tampa, where their arenas are centerpieces of an entertainment district, how much of an advantage did they have over Raleigh? Well, it would depend on the event owner and the rights holder and how much they valued that piece of it, but as a general statement, those downtown arenas and arenas with development around it, I always think of the battery in Atlanta as a textbook example of it, they absolutely have an advantage over buildings that are more isolated. And that doesn't mean PNC Arena and buildings like PNC Arena could not land events, it just made it more difficult and it sort of shrunk the pool of potential events you could bring into the venue. Scott Dupree, Greater Raleigh Sports Alliance is here.

It's not part of this whole development, but how well would a soccer-specific venue work attached to this at some point? Alarm. Take MitoQ.

Well, that's the first I've heard of that. I think it would... Well, let's put it this way. The more flexibility you have, the more multi-purpose you can be, the more options you can present. In this day and age, it's all good. So, I don't know if that's in the cards for the future here or not, but I do think, again, the more options and the more possibilities, the better. I appreciate your time, Scott. Again, sorry about being late, but it's a great day. Do you have any quick closing thoughts on whether or not you thought this would ever happen? You know, real quickly, after many years of PNC Arena being open, I would constantly say to myself, after 5, 10, 15 years, I cannot believe there's only a Wendy's and a gas station out here.

And I would say that for years and years. And so, I am just over the moon thrilled that this day has finally come, and I'm not sure, honestly, that I ever thought it would happen, but here we are. Yeah, it's a great day for all of us. And I'll just say it's an unbelievable credit and tribute to Centennial Authority, Gill Force, and NC State for making it happen, because they did an amazing job to pull all this together. No question.

It was really a mutual admiration society, which I never thought I would see at a Centennial Authority meeting of that magnitude. Scott Dupree, Greater Raleigh Sports Alliance, thanks, man. I appreciate your time. Thanks, Adam. Have a great day, man. Take care.
