After closely watching CJ Stroud while he was in college, does he see CJ coming to Carolina? Does he believe he’d be a good fit for the Carolina Panthers? What did Ohio really not want him to do, but it just came natural for him? Was he different heading into big games compared to others? Will the players mesh well with him, looking at his relationships with his former teammates? What is it about Ohio State that helps to prepare guys for the next chapter? What stood out to Cameron about Stroud? Were there moments that made Cameron think he’ll definitely be successful in the NFL? How does CJ handle pressure? How did he handle the pressure of leaving up to previous Ohio State QBs?

Every mock draft, seriously, every mock draft that I've looked at has CJ listed as the first pick to the Panthers. Your thoughts on that?

Yeah, no, it makes sense to me. This is kind of what expected, especially after the pro day he had and especially with the Panthers here in town, sending so many people. I think CJ would be a good fit there. I think it's a good talent for him to be in or CJ for him to be in. I think it's a good situation to put weapons around him.

I think if you see this shot, I think that's the perfect situation for you. CJ Teague, CJ underscore Teague on Twitter. Did you change your Twitter handle because of CJ's crowd? I bet you it seems odd. No, no, no. My middle name is James.

So my family back home always called me CJ. All right. Well, maybe you were the first pick in the athletic draft. Who knows? Yeah. So we have heard over and over and over again. Well, you know, you know what they say about Ohio State quarterbacks. I think all of that is BS. But people keep saying it. Why would they keep saying it?

So tell me why this will be different. Yeah, no, I mean, I think you look at CJ and you see a very pro ready quarterback. I mean, he he makes throws into tight windows.

I mean, I think you every Saturday he made a throw that just made you just your jaw drop. I think that's what he is. He's a guy who can sit there in the pocket and really dissect the defense because he has really good accuracy. He has really good IQ. But I think he can move better than what people say. Like, he didn't have to move a lot. I don't know how they want him to move a lot because they want to keep him healthy. When you saw him against Georgia, like he has mobility.

I just think he's a pro ready quarterback right now. When you when you when you watch his tape and see him on a day-to-day basis. What was he to cover? What was he like to cover on a day-to-day basis? Yeah, he was good.

I mean, he I mean, he's I mean, he's the highest in the quarterback. So he did a good job with understanding. He had interviews after every game interviews. I think we talked to him trying to remember what day we talked to Ryan Day. The Jim Knowles defense coordinator than CJ usually like every Tuesday.

So until like towards the end of the season, they start giving CJ a day off in their time time. So but he was good. He was good.

He was good at the media for sure. Does does he embrace that part of it or was it a chore? I don't think it didn't seem like a chore to him. I thought he did a pretty good job embracing it. He was pretty good with it with everybody on the beat. He would take time. He would do his presser and then sometimes he would hang around and just kind of chat with people whether it was system coaches system coaches or some media hanging around just to talk. So no, I thought I thought he did a good job of that.

How was he in was he different heading into big games? Were was there a same guy? Yeah. Yeah, same guy. I mean at least for us from our perspective and then you talk to everybody around him.

It's the same thing like she did the same guy. He would be when they play Toledo as they were when he when they would play Penn State or Michigan or going into Georgia. I think that's just how CJ is. I think it's why he's so good in fourth quarters like I think what you saw last year especially in the first half even towards the middle middle of the season when the house they needed him to put a job together.

He did. I think the game that stands out the most for me was Penn State game like that offense was struggling that second and third quarter. They had scored a touchdown since the first quarter and Penn State made a game in the fourth and he did he led three straight touchdown drives. I mean I I think that's just he's just that kind of calm guy. He makes everybody else around him calm too.

Cameron Teague from The Athletic covers Ohio State on Twitter at CJ underscore Teague. From your observations how is he with teammates? You know kind of not that you see him away from football but in the the interpersonal interpersonal part of what he will be asked to do.

Yeah I I don't think you'll find a teammate around there that has a problem with them. I think he helps them like I said I think his calmness helps the whole team. I remember asking Marvin Harrison about it after the Penn State game he said when when CJ is out there so calm they had to calm everybody else down and nobody really feels like they need to panic. I think that's just I think he's been a good leader for this program and I think it's reason Ohio State was so good last year or in both of these years. I mean Ohio State's a program that's always going to be good but I think CJ helped them in those type of ways.

What is it about Ohio State that might actually give CJ an advantage maybe not over you know just say Bryce Young because they're both at very high profile programs but what is it about OSU that helps or prepare guys for the next level? Yeah I mean I think something Ryan Day mentioned after pro day was that like he said if you can handle being a quarterback at Ohio State you can handle going to the next level and I think he meant it from like a criticism standpoint. Like there aren't many positions in the country in college football that get criticized as much as being quarterback for Ohio State. Like you mentioned Georgia you mentioned Alabama there's Georgia there's Clemson I think DJ Clemson got a lot of criticism but like those there's like five or six programs where you really look at and say that quarterback gets criticized every single day for everything um and that's what the NFL is like. I mean you go to the NFL like the quarterback is the guy who gets criticized and gets praised um how you handle that at those levels you can't really mimic that at other like mid-tier small-tier programs it's really hard. So he just heard it all the time every time they lost to Michigan anytime they won a big game anytime they they lost in the playoff he heard all of it so um he did a really good job with all of it I think.

Cameron Teague from the Athletic covers Ohio State is joining us here on the Adam Gold Show. All right what is his best quality as a quarterback in your in your opinion? I think he's just so accurate I think some of the times where he just puts balls and windows that you don't even think are open and he finds a way to do it um that's what stood out to me all year I just thought he was just just so accurate um all the time all the time. You uh you pointed to the Penn State game are there other moments in covering him that you just went this kid is just beyond what we have seen here before? Yeah um I think man um there were some pros this year that were outstanding but I I think the Michigan State game kind of sticks out a little bit to me um because he threw a pick six I want to say it might have been the first drive might have been a second job but it was like Michigan State was like it was the first quarter Michigan State the place was going crazy because they were still in the game and he came back and they just was flawless the rest of the game. I discussed that like that that stands out to me because he had such a short-term memory um which you need is that position um but it's just the way he does it um that that was impressive all year. Is it would it be fair to say that the the best part of CJ might just be the consistency of him like maybe there aren't though the eye-popping wow plays but that he just does all of the things the way they're supposed to be done? Yeah no I agree I think that's fair um I think that's what you I mean you kind of you put CJ on the field here to say you kind of expected okay this is what you're going to get from CJ this is what the offense is going to do it became a thing of like how many points are they going to put up how much are they going to beat this team by right that's that's kind of what it was um so yeah I I think I I think I mean I even look at the Michigan game I thought he did play well in that game the defense really struggled but I thought you even those drives he leaves down the field he throws a pick off a pit ball he throws a pick trying to force something in the end zone towards the end of the game but I thought he played well in that game um it's just that consistency you know what you're going to get from him you know what you're going to get from the offense um now um will it be enough to win the game on that day is kind of where you come from. All right final thing for Cameron Teague at CJT underscore Teague on Twitter uh there is a there is a legacy to uphold uh as a quarterback at Ohio State with all of the guys who came before him uh and just really even just as great college quarterbacks um how do you think he handled that? I thought he had it well um I know he wanted to do more um you could tell after the loss to Michigan he was really hurt um he wanted to win that game he wanted to go to the Big 10 championship game especially after like I mean you think about it like he started two years didn't win a Big 10 championship that's I mean Ohio State is known that you have to win a Big 10 championship you have to go win national championship so he didn't have that win he didn't have the playoff win last year so he wanted more from those games um I'm not sure there's more he could have done against Georgia he was nearly perfect in that game I thought um but I thought he handled the legacy well I I mean obviously his numbers speak for himself but in terms of being a quarterback at Ohio State what that means I thought he handled it as well as he could have um like I said before it's hard to hear all the criticisms every day um and still go out there and perform and still not let it get to you so I thought he did he handled them pretty well. Well a very good chance that he's the first player off the board when the panthers make their selection uh Cameron Teague you'll have to stay uh at the athletic unless you move up I don't know maybe maybe you'll get drafted by the panthers too I have no idea and if your name is CJ if they call you CJ you have a good chance of that at CJ underscore Teague from the athletic covers Ohio State hey thank you very much for your time appreciate it.
