The Carolina Hurricanes had some ups and downs this past weekend in their games, but how are the bouncing back for tonight's game against the Washington Capitals?

Rod Brenda Moore that was an interesting game Saturday night. Well, I just want to start there I thought the first period was really good. So I thought this the second and third kind of Surprised me a little bit.

What are your thoughts on how it all? Shook out at least in terms of style over those two periods. Yeah, I didn't I mean we had one line for sure played Well the whole game Obviously, they got a couple goals and really were It's effective every time they were out there.

I didn't love everybody else's game But you know, it wasn't wasn't terrible. Just we gave up some weird things It kind of happened in both games or just mistakes. You don't normally make Then they end up in our net. So yeah, it wasn't wasn't the best effort But you know the day you got the two points a lot, you know We came back at least and you know, Marty made a hell of a play that To get us back You know give us a chance to win all the time and then I'll shoot you Guys and that showed in the overtime, you know, you know, it's funny I was at the end of the game I was hearkening back to a conversation that you and I had during the first year of of your tenure as head coach in that you kind of thought you were a forward short like a dynamic forward short and that dynamic forward for the all-intensive purposes is natures and And he has the ability and so does aho and svechnikov and terevinin But he has the ability to turn no points into two and that's basically what he did Yep.

Yeah, you said it. I mean, that's been his really That ability all you know Every game he's playing I think one of the problems I think maybe he's had and positive he's relying on that You know thinking that okay, I can go in there and every shift and you just it's not it's not there There's a time and place for it, you know I think back to the playoffs in the Nashville series where he picked one up and went all the way around wrapped it in like In a crucial time like those are the times when you definitely need to wear down a goal or whatever like, okay Now's the time but I think he's learning that but we know he's got that ability. Let's just you know, you can't force the plays so You know to this point anyway early in the year He's been really good. Has he been in the middle of the ice more than he has been in the past? No, I honestly don't think there's much difference other than he's picking his spots a lot a lot better And you know, I think it helps to that success has been playing really well to those two guys have really set off each other you know, there's definitely a little bit of chemistry there between the two and Definitely, you know keep that roll as long as you can Rob Brenda more with us here as we get ready for the canes in the Capitals. This is indoors The next time you guys will play here will be outdoors what was going through your mind when Derek step on left the ice because he took a puck to the hand and When he when he leaves and doesn't come back I was worried because you don't have too many right hand face off guys and he's played really well Yeah, he's been good and you know, you're always worried guys get you don't have to leave the game And it was pretty precautionary though. So we kind of knew that it wasn't serious But like again, we're you know, we're gonna totally feel like a different age with with handling injuries and everything I just think everybody's real cautious with stuff, you know, he'll be in the night though So that's that's a good sign. No, Paul Stazny did not skate this morning, but he's good to go Yeah, yeah, he'll be he'll be ready. So we're just you know, again, it's a this three and four for us So I'm just getting the morning off All right real quick about the the way this I guess the alignment that you finished the game in Moving Sebastian in between Andre and Marty. Are you gonna start the game that way? It looked pretty good in terms of Creating chances and dominating possession. They obviously had the puck a lot Wow again, we go back to yes, you know with fashion Marty out there.

I was pretty You know think that's gonna be a good line. And if you throw your best player in there It's gonna be a real good line Yes, you do got to worry about the overall depth of the of the group when we do that but I think we were it was a little more about a necessity in that game to try to you know, generate something and You know, I don't know that I'll go with it right off the start But you know, we always know that's a line you could go to if we if we're who are in need Are you at all concerned by the slow start of Tevo Taravana? I Don't know no more concern that I've been before when he's kind of gone through, you know little walls there You know, and it's really You know, I don't know that it's just we always base his game on point production, you know He's still done some really good things. He had a he broke up a back check The other night on a you know, mess up that we had and would have been a tap in there So there's a whole realm of his game that we it's not just the offensive part But I mean that we obviously need him clicking on all cylinders here to be effective So no changes at all.

You don't have an extra forward. So this the forwards are the forwards Calvin is Calvin ready to get back in No, he's not He's been out for well, I'm against almost a week now as in practice. So today was first time on the ice I think if we had to play him we could But we're gonna give him another day Back to Freddie. Oh Yeah, yeah What have you seen from you two goaltenders so far? Yeah, they've been fine. I mean, you know, there's a couple of goals that you definitely I mean That we don't want to let in and we've had a couple gas You know with the puck handling and there's you know Some things that we definitely know we get to be better at but you know, it's funny, you know rants, you know We give up one right away in overtime, you know Just kind of like Scott sleeping and yeah, they make a huge save there Give us a chance to win So he and then there was one earlier where the deep walk down the break down the pipe too And he made a save late in the third So he you know, he's been made some real big saves for us and his starts and we know Freddie would get him gone I think we're gonna be a good shape It wasn't just the D. It was Tony DiAngelo that he robbed I thought rats made some really really big saves in the third period an OT Yeah, that's what I believe.

That's what you need, right? When you're especially if you're not Not creating a ton of chances, you know, you just you can't give up that extra on You know that he was able to keep us in the game in that way and obviously got the win My final thing Alexander Ovechkin is still still humming along is what 18 behind Gordie how? The the mission tonight is what? Well, you better not pass Gordie how tonight That's a for sure but You know, it's the same old story It's a tough player to fend because he hangs out those areas and he's got the ability to score from those areas where a lot Of guys can't and so listen, we know he's out there They're a lot tougher team than people give him credit the as far as their team game And so we've got to you know, we've got to worry about him But there's a there's a whole host of other guys make it tough to play. So we're in one here tonight for sure Yeah, it's a big physical team, Washington Yeah. Yep. They are and they got a lot of skill to like they're big guys. I'm just watching more skate here You got you know, mantha is just I mean the guy's monster out here, but he skates like the wind and he's got great hands So yeah, you know, they got good players That's why you know, they've been in that playoffs feels like forever.
