It’s a tragic reality that many marriages fall apart after a dramatic and sudden loss, like the collapse of a business or the death of a child. So how do we keep it together when our life seems to be falling apart? More importantly, how do we keep our faith through all the pain? Pastor J.D. answers those questions as he concludes our series on family and relationships titled, Home Wreckers.

Today on Summit life with JD Greer the blessing of God as if it were applying okay is applied and you got different pieces in this piece right here represents like a blessed marriage in this piece represent a blessed family. Kids wrote about Jesus and so here represents great ministry. This represents a great job and financial blessing Jeremias about any of our faces, but I got the best fees because of God himself. I'm your host Molly benefits have you ever noticed this tragic reality that many marriages fall apart after a dramatic or sudden loss like the collapse of the business. The death of a child or an injury that leaves one permanently disabled. So how do we keep things together when our lives seem to be falling apart and more importantly, how do we hold onto our faith through all that pain today.

Pastor JD answers those questions as he concludes our series on family relationships title homewrecker's. He called this message. Despair. Despair is overwhelming, suffocating, but life is not to get any better. The body can aggravate what is going on in the soul. Here's the thing, what commissions of the body do aggravate spiritual conditions, but usually don't create. That's the thing to remember, hope come from somewhere different from not answering the question about medication. What I am showing you is that there is hope, and hope for something a little bit different. If you have your Bible, what should open them to Lamentations Jeremias try to show you that he is giving you the experience of suffering from a deceit that's over scholars that you do it. There is the experience of suffering from a to C is a wise Jeremias suffering Lamentations chapter 3 verse one I am the man from the same affliction of the rod of his wrath. He has driven and brought me into darkness without any light verse three surely against me, he turns his hand again and again the whole day long was he talking about. By the way he talking about talk about God. God, he has made my flesh and my skin waste away is broken, my bones is besieged and envelop me with bitterness and tribulation. He has made me dwell in darkness, like the dead of long ago you called me about so that I cannot escape the is made by chains heavy though I call a cry for help shuts out my prayer, a lot of you have gold dart shoppers and you have thought these very things and you have shut your self up and said no I cannot say this, I cannot feel this will Christians don't feel like this Jeremiah was a real Christian is encouraged yet you bless you before I go on and did you learn something very very important. That is, that God chose to include this in the Bible even after we get edited this out. Thank you for choosing Lucas put all about what profit yelled me.me accusing me of things no one up, but not the Bible does not want to jeopardize bookable treachery but about me dancing over people with no singing outlook was people like that while Solomon's wisdom is really hot right now.

We can keep a sex manual.

We can keep that on the shelves now drive ourselves up with put another one of those in their no God put this book in there for you who suffer because God knows how you feel.

And God needs you to know that he knows how you feel, and it is okay for you to express that in fact I would tell you that you need to express it like were entirely too quick.

Sometimes our answers and think positively Christian jargon. Sometimes what you need is not theological reasoning. Sometimes what you need is a God walk through this with you because here's what I believe.

I believe is all my heart. God can handle your doubts again.

He can answer your questions. In fact, I would tell you that in asking the question and expressing the doubt. You're actually giving real faith, a chance to grow up and told you. Doubt is a foot that is poised to go forward or backward, you might pick up foot up and you might go backwards and I believe that is certainly possible, but you're never the wall forwarded to you pick up your foot so your faith is shallow because you've never really struggled through these things. You got domesticated God who gives you purpose and make you feel warm and fuzzy, but you don't crave him. You don't stand and amazed at him passionately follow him deep struggles like this one of the way that God often changes that took the prophet essays like not been struck by the rod of your route, I would never learn to follow you write this down. Real faith grows out of honestly express doubt. Real faith grows out of honestly express doubt until you have experienced deep pain and deep questions. You never know how much deeper God is in pain. How much more glorious he is in the questions deep experience deep pain, deep doubt is how God deepens your understanding and makes you stand amazed it takes you from a casual Christian to someone who praised him when David said of Psalm 42 as the deer pants for the water so my soul longs for you. What I'm trying to tell you is this the biggest lesson you need to express your lamentation even write it out. I'm right that put that up right now my limitation assured that your homework assignment you need to write it out. I mean literally write it out and not some sanitized positive, encouraging Christian radio version of it but a real person like Jeremias Searcy. This is a Christian soul. Imagine hearing this on Christian radio positive, encouraging because I compare malls may write about. Then you go somewhere and read it back to God's going back to him grieve over a shattered dream, a messed up marriage lost child. Allow yourself to feel the emotions and the sadness in the put them in the words and remember that God is listening to you.

A good example to CS Lewis agreed observed that is not been the articulation of a Christian doctor by Christian theologian that is a Christian theologian preaching against God knows what enclosure Bible school that were sermon ever. Verse 21, but this I call to mind. This is one of the most profound transitions in all of the Bible.

I want you to see Jeremiah in prison thinking about apparent that he watched killed in front of a child. Maybe they watch murder. This I call to mind. Therefore, I have the steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, his mercies never come to an end. They are new every morning great is your faithfulness.

Lord is my portion, says my soul therefore I will hope in him Lord is good to those who wait for him to the soul who seeks him is good for one wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.

There are two partially correct answers that Christians seem to gravitate toward in the midst of suffering. First is their group account of personal account of Christian minister suffering tend to gravitate toward this idea was a mistake like well, God is enough. You're more the doctrinal time or the reform type seminary type.

This is you, well you know God enough God never promises thing that will be easy. Note that he thought he said in this world you will have tribulation. That's one group of you, but others argue you gravitate more toward answers like why God is.

You might not be seen. It now. But God is working God turn your tragedy to triumph by Joseph just couldn't see it. But when he was in that prison. God was preparing him for the palace. You grab more.

The charismatic time to gravitate toward outside both those answers are partially true, but both of them are incomplete. This text addresses them both verse 24 the Lord is my portion.

Therefore I will hope in him. Think for a minute of the blessing of God as if it were a pie. Okay, it is a pie you got different pieces in this piece right here represents like a blessed marriage in this piece represents a blessed family, kids, you grow to love Jesus in this piece over here represents a great ministry. This represents a great job and financial blessing. Jeremias is not on any of our faces, but I got the best fees because it's God himself. God is the best piece of his own pie means when nothing is going right that I will rejoice in the Lord, the Lord, I will take joy in what the blessings God is giving and the promise of future blessings know I will take joy now in the God of my salvation now because God the Lord is my strength now. There's nothing wrong with prayer praying for the blessing of friendship and romantic love or marriage.

But you know what God is better than that blessing. Earthly marriage is just a shadow of the heavenly love that we craved the arms that we long for.

In marriage when his arms, the tenderness and affection that we long for was found in the God who gave himself for us up across I want to be married, but if I'm not, but not in a good marriage. Think God is my portion God is better than marriage. There's nothing wrong with praying for the blessing of money but you know what Jesus is better than money. It provides more meaning and more security than all the money in the world and God never crashes or dips below 10,000 loses a AAA rating.

God promised to provide for all your needs and the pie of God's blessing God is the best piece God himself is the best of all his blessings God himself. The presence and approval of God is my portion of the pie got yourself verse 25 but the Lord is also good to those who wait for him and is good for one to wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord. A lot of people go to Senate first one will sing to get. I just got God. Salvation is something he does here in the earth. God is working good for his people on the earth. I love this phrase in the Psalms.

A lot of people like me what my friends a lot of those of us in the more doctrinal before can little bit flexible and probably never will read this verse and really like draft some 2713 this I shall look upon the goodness of the Lord where in the land of the living. So don't tell me about how awesome heaven is going to be. Don't just tell me about how awesome having to be honest, he got kind is now God loves to give it the overflow's love for his children to Jeremiah save his mercies are new every morning. Job is a great example of both of these points.

By the way, Job number Job jobs got lost everything loses fortune loses friends wife tells him to curse God and die.

Mr. is about as bad for Job to get Job goes through plumbers, wretched experiences.

If you never read all the way to the book of Job will make it about chapter 20 the maiden crush. All the way through it, which I would encourage you to what you find in is two things happen to Job number one source to know God in an entirely different way. For the first time in his life. He starts to worship not, but because he has all the answers but because he experiences a God that is deeper than the pain. He knows God he actually begins to worship you been a Christian before, but he never really worship second angle finds that God restored your seat at the end, it looks like the last verse just got restored to him everything, even more than he had at the very beginning.

Both of these things, God's kindness at work in what is going on in your life and God also preparing you to know them because his mercies are new every morning so I could just see what God is doing for this dark hour if I could just see that I could make it belong in this business. One thing to Trevor touched on last week but let me just let me give you three things we know God is doing in the darkness for you okay three things we know God tells us they all start with P because you just can't get the Southern Baptist ottoman have tried, but it just won't leave you.

Also, the one he is pursuing his agenda.

God is pursuing his agenda in your dark hour.

When the things of Scripture tells us very clearly is that God uses pain to bring salvation to the world what he did with Jesus.

Jesus did not bring salvation to us by being a political ruler. Jesus brought salvation by going to a cross, he said. Likewise, his followers would bring salvation the same way, what is pretty interesting is that we can see something about Jeremiah's life he could see and that is the guy was use this exile to actually bring about something much better than the nation of Israel itself, and that is the Messiah, God would use the exile to bring about the birth of the Messiah pole when Paul began to follow Jesus started to say. The reason that were going through all this is because death works in us, but life works in you. God chooses to bring his salvation to you, your family into your world through the cross.

Just like you did when Jesus just like you did with Jesus.

So you hang on, and that's about some things. I can only be done this a payment can be done in this prosperity is not a popular message but that is exactly what the New Testament says that the new work life and other people.

Secondly, he is purifying your heart is pursuing his agenda. Number two is purifying your heart to see what God is doing is he's tearing down your own kingdom so that you will be able to understand whether or not you live in for yours or his got to do that you does that to me will shadow some drain just so you can expose to you that this was never really about him. It was about you that Raven guy was praying a prayer that sounded like thy kingdom come, but what really meant was my kingdom come, what God did is he frustrated my prayer he shattered my dream so that I would be forced to see who I was actually living for. Because I can see some things by disappointed dreams that I can't see when they're all coming true strategy which really care about the first commandment is that you should love the Lord your God with all your heart, your soul in your mind. I said, many of us in here have no real concept of what that is not saying you're a bad person or monsignor not a good Christian you come to church in time to do all the stuff you first to do but you don't raise you not like David, Psalm 42 one. As the deer pants for the water so my soul longs for you. What we have done that verse. We put on like a coffee cup with the deer jumping over a broken axle, but that's not what is being expressed in that verse only for God. What God does sometimes shakes up what you care about so you can see whether or not you love a great God God is not supposed to be an afterthought, is not supposed to be somebody that you serve occasionally on Sunday I'm talking hypocrites here.

I'm talking to casual Christians who don't think about God all the time God is not the dominating reality of your life that you crave him like a man whose been in the desert and has a drunk water for 30 days. David is expressing God is purifying your heart. Thirdly, he is preparing you for ministry ministry like I do ministry the lives of others. So Paul says in second Corinthians. He said you know what God has frustrated our ministry at every possible turn and he did that for a few reasons.

The first reason I got did that to us is one you want us to know him better. You want us to know Christ and his sufferings better. The other reason God tore apart our ministry is you wanted you to know you wanted you know that it wasn't about the power and eloquence of Paul was about the power of God. And so God made you like a full sometimes, so that he would increase through my suffering is but the third reason that God, God put these things and pour down our ministry is because he wanted me to be able to understand your pain is about never been to Pena.

It's hard for me to understand yours and God sometimes will wound you so that you can understand and speak the people who have been wounded by a dip your toes or says this is God before God can use a man greatly.

He must first wound him deeply before God tends use you greatly. He must first wound you deeply God uses pain and Jeremiah's indeed pain and he can't see what God is doing but he sure says to believe that the steadfast love the Lord never ceases that his mercies never come to an end listened despair is not caused by pain and suffering. Despair is caused by hopelessness. Hope is not the lessening of pain, hope is the recognition of purpose in pain, the recognition of God's loving sovereignty and good intentions in pain does not come from God taking you out of pain, hope comes from God. Taking the despair out of pain also is her pain is real. Her pain is deep because we know that the steadfast love the Lord never ceases and because his mercies never come to any and God is working salvation. Even our pain now is a blessed pain because what we are experiencing now is temporary, but what God is working is eternal is eternal. You say, but I can't say that I can't see how God is using my pain for good you're talking about. Did see it. Yes, you can you can't control what you remember but you can choose what you: you cannot control what you remember you cannot control what you feel all the time you are to be honest about that's what I try to tell you, but you can choose what you call the mind and you choose to call to mind the steadfast love the Lord when my favorite British pastors going to be more more judges that made the statement he said, in a sense, in a sense what the Scriptures do is they teach us how to talk to ourselves. I got voices of doubt with him but I overcome them with a lot of words of the gospel. I know the outlook looks bleak and it makes me think that I'm in despair but I trust that with a loud voice of the gospel and this I call to mind to how I live does not turn to my closest to God. What Jesus did, determines my closest to God closest to got it so I live right now. I live right now in Christ God's mercies are new for me every morning because God could not love Christ anymore than he does right now and I am in Christ, seek got his mercies are mine.

So I faced that with assurance and I call it mind one final thing liquid when I say this was a broken heart.

There's you who are outside of Christ. There really is nothing but spare despair is not inaccurate for you.

It's actually very accurate because everything that you're experiencing now. You'll have a hope that goes beyond the grave. If you are in Christ there is no condemnation despair is an illusion. You may feel it, but it's not real if you are outside of Christ that hope is an illusion. And all you have is despair. When you die hello Wayne's my prayer is that for you who are believers.

Your despair would drive you to your hope in Christ and for you were not believers. Your despair would wake you up what you sleep as it doesn't have to be this way.

Christ conquered death for you in the office of you is a gift family then becomes the clear and where we have the capacity to do the most damage, but thankfully the Bible offers us hope you're listening to Senate life with pastor JD Greer and the final message in our powerful series on relationships, titled homewrecker's. If you missed any of the previous messages you can hear them online@jdgreer.com cell pastor JD this week as we wrap up the series and introduce a new series tomorrow. We've also introduced a new resource that's very timely to what's going on in our nation right now.

It's called one nation under God.

Christian hope for American politics, where some of the biggest misconceptions that Christians had about politics today Deborah? Comes politics. Most Christians I think phone wanted to digits on either side of the road here. On one side of this people who just cringe when they hear the word politics. These are the people who say things like, yeah, politics might be necessary in today's world, but it's a necessary evil, right and you the best thing to do is stay as far away from it as possible, and that's what they would do. In fact, a lot of these probably would vote they don't really stay informed. I can certainly understand the frustration coming from that side.

In fact, it comes from seeing the Christians who fall on the other ditch which are Christians who put all their hopes altered her dreams of a politics to black like salvation is given come to earth in the words of Chuck Colson riding on the wings of Air Force One, it's not salvation came in a cradle became in a manger. That's why we say were not people of the of the elephant were not people of the donkey were people of the land and so we have a different hope and when you see people put so much hope in and who selected and and and think that's going to be what determines our future. You have Christians who react to that. So once I get Christians to think politics is like nothing else, get out and stay out but on the other side you Christians you think politics is nearly everything we believe here at summa life based on what we read from the Bible. That's the followers of Jesus should pursue 1/3 way we can and should care deeply about politics, but all the while caring more deeply about the gospel. Yes, politics matters, it's important, but it's pen ultimate, which is a fancy word for meeting right below the ultimate think the only thing that you get our highest hopes.

Our biggest dreams is the gospel profitable throughout the series. That is going to go into a lot more detail on that topic one more. The more helpful books that I've read on this book is called one nation under God. A Christian hope for American politics. You can get a copy. JD Greer.com.
