This is good Truth Network, she will not why founder and president of apologetics and research what is found on law Z car the other day over there which refer to salvation than they also in the same verse reference people being appointed and sort of like pretesting so I don't know the exact birth exiting all right but okay sounds right now, just in general. Can you shed some light on that because you know we were taught we always kind of understood salvation to be through faith and grace than anybody because they but these other passages seem to like kind of implied that there some sort of no predestination. And Paul is hoping you could make… The reason is the idea predestination is there is because it's true, and to give you versus if you want to go check it out. Check them out but predestination is a biblical doctrine. Now explain more about it, but I want to say that when a lot of people hear me talk like this. They don't want to listen to Internet radio or whatever it is because I don't like that idea of God pretesting people to salvation because it means that God is not predestined everybody the selfish and what people generally say is that it's completely up to the individual is free or her free will to be able to choose God. And that's is not biblical. And when I talk like this a lot. I know a lot of people are just taken aback but let me defend what I'm saying. I did remind you that I've been doing apologetics for 40 years and it doesn't mean I'm right really study these issues. Line and so the Bible says that the unbelievers, a slave of sin. Romans 614 through 20 in the room 310, 11, 12, it says that the unbeliever is doesn't see for God can do no good in prescriptions 214, it says that the unbeliever cannot receive or understand the things of God for the foolishness to him and he would go to Isaiah 64, six, or practice, teacher, filthy rags.
We go to Ephesians 21 or did not send Ephesians 23 where by nature children of wrath.
There's just all kinds of things in the Bible that talk like this and the effect of that reality of biblical reality that the unbeliever is a slave of sin, the hater of God can do no good to us and seek for God cannot receive the things of God's deadness since this is what the Scripture say I'm quoting literally go to Scripture if that's the case, and it is, then it would be necessary that we would be caused to be born again.
Which is exactly what it says in first Peter 13. It would be as it says in export 1348, as many as had been appointed to eternal life believed were there a point to the Greek is tossup and tossed so is used in some ancient writings in military context to to weigh in general would put a certain group of people in certain places. It's a direct arrangement of things that Ms. had been appointed to eternal life. Jesus said in John 644. You cannot come to me unless the Father draws you in John 665 says you cannot come to me… Been granted to you Mrs. what it says in John 113 talks about being born again, born again, not of her own will. When I quote these two people who have been raised in the standard church that of free will is him now. I believe in free will, but I'll explain when it is here.
What happens is they usually react very negatively because they don't like the idea that God is the one who chooses people for salvation.
It has to be up for our own choice, but you won't find it in Scripture that is a a man-made humanistic doctrine that has crept into the church and is very unfortunate that is the case is not to say that God is and is our people to be safe, but he certainly does God want to save anybody all he has to do is move the heart of the king where he wishes it to go.
Proverbs 21 Mike is born again, not of her own. Well John one freak or grant that we believe Philippians 129 or grant us repentance second Timothy 225 so the question becomes, why doesn't God granted everybody well the answer to that is found in Romans nine 9023 and the summation of that is God does what he wants and you can answer back to him or people so that's not fair will, who are you to say back to God a thing multiple knots in the mold.
Why did you make me like this will, and it goes on in Romans nine and addresses these issues. But the funny thing is that when we pray the prayers of a righteous man affect God avail much with God. James 516 says the house at work. I don't know to pray for people salvation and its way beyond our understanding, to build explain all this, but our prayers matter so we can affect God because God says so but yet from all eternity.
As it says in explain a few more things here is says in Ephesians 1 starting in the verse four just as he chose us.
That's the Greek word X like them.
I chose just as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world that we would be holy and blameless before him in love he predestined us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ himself. According to the kind intention of his will.
The baby's what we have here is being chosen before the foundation of the world that we would be holy and blameless and the only way that's possible is if Christ died for us. This is an in love he predestined us he predestined, that's what it says election and predestination go together, or the choosing of God. Now there are three main Greek words that are used for calling in that sense lexicon efficacy for both the click of my eclectic costs. Excellent gay.
These are the three words that I get to that one in the second and if you notice a repeat of the first syllable was at EKL Eklund getting glassy or skinny click of my eclectic tiles with a word for church in Greek is Cliff Sia where the called ones.
The chosen ones is a Greek word for called in the present tense as collateral in Greek. When you go to the past tense you putting E epsilon on the front of the word, we put ED on the back so that we would get his click again those who are called so the church is the called ones, the ones who were given by the father to the son.
John 637 through 40 talks about that Jesus is all of the father gives me will come to me and he talks like this.
So when we see these things in Scripture to because it's true he predestines us from the foundation of the world and her son is really interesting. A lot of people don't understand. I will show you this this is just Scripture of you notice I am coding versus I'm quoting scriptures. I know that a lot of people don't agree with this and that's fine. You don't have to agree, but I'm quoting Scripture. And if I'm wrong then show me the Scriptures that contradict this but how could the Scripture contradict the Scripture does make sense. So a God only knows believers is no unbelievers. Now this is me. He's doesn't know who they are in his state of omniscience.
He knows all things police as I know you. A major save is because I don't know you mean you're not saved that the Greek word can also go as many guns as I know you your meter saved and I'm show that the romantic time for the break. I shall if in Scripture, but the word for Forno is Pro can also go it says this in Romans eight 2930, which is really interesting for those whom he foreknew he also predestined the door for knows Pro can also go but God only knows ghettos go people that are his in the saving weight of the phrases used in Scripture so to me, foreknew he also predestined her the same group. This is Romans 829 this is what the Scripture says those of the foreknew he also predestined through the same group.
The four known ones are the ones he is known as salvation way from before the foundation of the world. He predestined them there.
The same group for those whom he foreknew he also predestined to become conformed to the image of his son so that he would be the firstborn among many brethren and those whom he predestined, that's past tense. He also called that's past tense, and those whom he called, that's past tense. He also justified. That's past tense those we justify the also glorified Orphic glorified to the past tense, but it's something that happens in the future is because were so secure in him because we been elected, chosen, redeemed, predestined that we belong to him that help yeah yeah very interesting.
I there's a lot there so I hope you know posting the recorded version yet one more hold a break. Hold on, get that if anybody is a lovely day folks we write back after these messages, everyone this is Matt slick from that slick live and I wanted to let you know about my fellow I got one a few weeks ago I gave it a try and after the first night I said that said, I am not getting difficult. Matt, let's get back to Chris from Raleigh, you still are yeah mere fact that so yeah so sort of related to that question then is it possible from a scriptural point of view. For those who are appointed to reject their salvation through three will what it was free will was renting my account they can. Everybody will real. Everybody has the ability to reject God over and over and over when it's time for God to regenerate you then be saved on the given example something we would teach that regeneration precedes faith logically not temporally so there's a light switch and I turn on electricity. The light is instantaneously there, but it is the electricity that causes the light even though some simultaneous so to logically prior God regenerates us and gives us the ability to freely believe and we do, it's our free will that we do that, but God changes us so that were no longer slaves of sin were regenerated and so far, then God's work is in us and we can believe when it comes time for that active, nobody can resist because it's God's sovereign act of regenerating us once were regenerated. We freely choose God. That's how that works okay great thank right but God bless will see you thank you. Okay let's get to Dave from Florida. Dave welcoming on the thank you Matt. I appreciate your time to have a quick question about General Securities burger with paint and I believe it myself but I did. A lot of people make the somebody living a lifestyle of continual man be at whatever lot property adultery, alcohol, whatever like that about colony network is not truly a leader or that a believer struggling there. Let the cyclist a good thing because their degrees of struggle and degrees of of the this issue. Let's say there's a man and he struggles with the porn once a year. Let's just say it averages to once a year. He goes to church does the stuff and envious what year he falls into it and it offered less a day and then he repents that he's remorseful, etc. would you say he saved me to get her that he was as once a year make it. Mom saved what if it's once a day. Not now. It's because of a different issue because now it's a habitual thing that doesn't seem to have any manifestation of repentance, not on. I'm certainly not saying to anybody out there is people often misrepresent me. I'm not saying it's okay to do that once a year, never saying that, but was giving illustration. So when we talk about this.
We have degrees of things about how people sin and frequently or are the frequency I should say will then how would we do with this if they sin once every 10 years with that particular thing would you sooner not say, but neither they just blew it, but once every day all the Recite within what were saying is, other than the frequency is what makes us save are not saved by evidence. What is there some truth to that.
Well yes and no.
Because yes, it should be. There should be some manifestation of repentance and struggle with her is no manifestation then then no but there is a struggle even daily, wilderness and evidence of Celtic CC. This is not an easy thing to answer because their subjective issues here normally speaking, someone who abides in sin without any repentance without any conviction. That is a sign that they're not regenerate that they are a false convert we I do know of people who have struggled greatly with that particular center use as an illustration, I get kids in the kids in the car subjective and not say to me words and so they struggle will what it's are struggling once a week once every two weeks and and I'm in my 60s. Let's just say I counseled some young men over the years about this particular show this year's assessment Continued with it and let's say once a week once every two, three, four, five weeks different young men of different struggles and they are remorseful and so what I say or not Christian at St. no, there's a real struggle going with the struggles because their life in Christ. Some people say what you should never sin like that wouldn't what sin is okay to sin as the recite method settings okay this really becomes a difficult issue.
So we have to say, normatively speaking this in this but when it comes any particular individual with a look at the situation look at it any conviction look at habit look at confession and have the elders of the church in their wisdom and go from there. That's what really has to happen if that makes it chemical audit. Early that help that I know with biblical doctrine that the only people I think that view that families are hurt.
Maybe not trying to be today. They are struggling but I it's hard to answer those who oppose it. But believe you can do whatever you want to be a Christian home yard without having the other day the text but I see that angle. It is true I do do whatever I want and so do you. Everybody does what they want. That's why they're responsible for their actions. So the the the those who hold to the position that you could lose your salvation also have to maintain the idea that you keep your salvation, what you do and then they accuse someone like myself, or you can sit all you want.
What's true, but I don't want to sin because you're divorcing regeneration from the issue of our belief and trust in Christ and security is not okay to send. Let's say that it is it is not a license to sin, in spite of what Mr. Korner wants to say in his error is heresy. But the thing is though that is if he's listening. The thing is that the security and crisis of security in the work of Christ is not a license to sin is not licensed to sin and God do that which is evil is not what were advocating for those who do say you it means go sit all you want right will I ask you sin yes is it because you do it on purpose or accident with a state either one Allstate was it your will to do it with will then either way, you're the one performing the action with her was on purpose or by accident near held responsible for your actual so therefore you're sitting all you want. It's the same thing people don't think these things through infancy that there is is rooms to once a you're guilty of what you accuse others of antibiotic that I appreciate that oil and also for the for those who I know that I'm dividing some people here are no littleness say this a lot = now you can lose your salvation if that's the case on Colossians 214. In my opinion, destroys that Colossians 214 for the best verses in the Bible for this Jesus, having canceled out the certificate of debt canceled the sin that he did it by nailing it to the cross. The last people when did he cancel the certificate of debt that the sin debt and most of the process of the Scripture says okay you cancel all of your sin on the part of will have to be all that you canceled all of your sin that can you go to hell otherwise is not canceled is good point, which is as real sample and so that they'll do it when you accept it or them. It is a sin of accepting us as canceled issues. It's canceled. Is it canceled.
I had him finally said yes it's canceled.
Okay this cancel can you be judge for that which does not exist in your sin will know we got accepted except what if it's canceled there's nothing to accept, it's gone, you will accept nothing good is not there anymore.
People don't know what to say this, that they don't think clearly a lot when it comes to things like this. They think emotionally.
They think with an agenda going on a just just think this is tried, like the my opponent last night that this debate was to do this kind of a thing, but he did what he wanted nothing to do with that what is nothing do with serious examination of the text only superficial level.
Nothing super deep nothing deep in it. That's what happens a lot.
I as you know, Felicity, for while I try get people to think I want to stretch the stretch. I want to get irritated at me even some type that can't be right. Look the word of God to see from same is true that's what I want doing writing for 15 years and one of the things people say to me the most is you don't you just irritated me, but you kept quoting Scripture.
I went look at the Scriptures and Garnet. You're right.
That's what it says there you go in a window don't blame it on the messenger. All right mischief over to Wally from Des Moines, Iowa. They will only.
Thank you for taking my call. Sure my question my question at the very heart of the caller you very similar worktop, but you not think your show an offer for while they be maybe a year. I like talking about. I really enjoyed it.
I've heard affect up a lot but my partner communicating airtime, aggression is the I know what Mike got that I cannot be good enough for validation.
I know that works. Don't make me. I know I know I asked try to give me several times and I just feel like I'm not regenerate man I feel like my favorite. Many times, almost all the time my faith. It academic and I did I get I guess one thing I learned so that when a younger one night when I bought. I believe very few cards. I don't member the date I want want to start want to start with your satellite character whole bit about Jill Jesus, that Christ God does the picking and choosing for salvation, not the people in it was a new thing to me outside. I don't anyway want to refute that. But it was clear to me and thinking about how I know I got a technique I know that she was an accident that I know I need some encourage money. Sure sure you make sure that my faith is not academic shortfalls in my life that you jump in and try to help you out here okay and let me tell you I you know I have asked burgers and we ask these aren't all that emotional. In some areas. We certainly can be.
But I'm assuming they may figure out a very intellectual so I have to battle with the same thing is just an intellectual acknowledgment in the intellectual faith. Hey, I understand that issue. I understand self-examination is something we all do. And we ought to do what is the evidence of salvation and us. There's two kinds orthodoxy or the proxy orthodoxy is an intellectual faithful trust in the truth. The doctor, the Trinity, Jesus Christ is God in flesh. She died the cross rose from the dead. He died for our sins. These are things that while an atheist could list out an answer on a test question?
This me believes it was only asking do you believe these things, you trust in Christ the best of your ability. Understanding do you okay all right okay so this is something that the unbelievers cannot do now.
Some will say will do. I really believe I made up thinking on believing I'm not really believing that's another issue right well the solution I found when I went to my professor in seminary and I asked him this very question. How do I normally believing not just thinking on believing and deceiving myself about my belief. First of all John one flick is 129 God grants me beliefs or belief comes from God to the say.
We don't believe this is a God granted to us when he did, it came from God, then it's efficient with the professor told me was this asking will be given you seek and you will find knock and will be open to you.
For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. What man is there among you when his son asks for a loaf, will he not give him a stone or he will not give us totally or if he asked for official not give mistake. Willie. The reason that this is actually stone and bread loaf discussed in that culture. We may bread it looked like a stone in a flat round thing and there's a fish in the celibacy galley that is long and skinny look like a snake so stuck be faking think it of fakery here. What man among you who when his son asks for loaf will give him a stone. If you asked for fish won't give him a snake. If you, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your father in heaven who is in heaven give what is good to those who ask him if we have to do is trust that when you ask God that the faith that he's given you to be able to ask comes from him and he stuck a fake UL you to trust your own heart. You trust God's heart.
You trust what he has. This is orthodoxy with the proxy is good practice so you don't go stealing. You don't go lying and having no problem with it. If you do various sins, you say ouch.
That's not rights. This is the sign of the Holy Spirit and you could convicting you for the practicing is doing those things that are right now I'm not saying perfection here, but it should be. But what is not perfect, but the idea is there's a manifestation of truth in you the truth that manifests and works in good works of James 22 James 242 26 talks about this. This was going on.
If you have orthodoxy with the proxy and you trust that Jesus said in Matthew 77 through 11 that he'll give you good gifts. If you ask if you're asking for salvation you're asking God. He is the now gives it not you who has to receive it aesthetic to your ability to receive because God grants to be believe the goods 129 and were born again, not of our own will. John 113 don't know that okay and are believing is the work of God. John 620 29 and you can become the Christ granted to the father. Evidence of everything you said Robbie Gilmore here in the Truth Network podcast of help make my pillow the company it is today, and now Michael and Ellen by the way, I've met is a great guy, inventor and CEO of my fellow wants to get back to our listeners for the first time you can get the discounts on all modular products you go to my pillow.com right now, and click on the new radio listeners who never thought that my dream job would be selling my fellows are sleeping and get deep discounts on my mattress toppers bedsheets, and so much more. Met Micah from Salt Lake City. Micah here is I can flick him.
I mind that worry about study material from Don Barker bad that they preacher of courtship salvation, and that I can defend that because I didn't know what courtship salvation. What you your Lordship salvation at some it's a problem if it's defined in certain ways. Basically, what means is that in order to be a Christian you have to receive Christ not only as Savior but also as Lord and so it is either a single step or two step process a single step process is by faith alone in Christ alone, and your justified your saved and the result of that is he is automatically the Lord of your life and and that will be manifested through sanctification. The other view of Lordship salvation. Another view, click the variations of it is that you receive Christ by faith.
But you also have to purposely turn from their sins.
And you have to willingly decide to proclaim or whatever it is that Jesus is to be Lord in all areas of your life and that these both of these was necessary to just be Lord as well as Savior in order for your be saved now, though the latter one is problematic because if someone is to repent.
In order to become a Christian and that means then that the unbeliever, the unregenerate is able to do good work by which she is then saved.
And this is where the controversy one of the main areas of it comes into play and we had to make sure that were justified by faith alone in Christ alone.
However, it is also true that Jesus does need to be Lord of our life because that's rightful we been bought with that of the blood of God. Acts 2028. If that's the case then what ought to be, is that Jesus is Lord of our lives so they go together in either view but that the controversy comes in the is it a one-step process of salvation or to step one partner to part of one faith alone in Christ alone, or to faith and you have to make him look or live your life and and then to become a true Christian and is a little bit. We can make Scripture we cook scriptures for both of those because you know if you so you know him until he was commitment to truth is not in you and your liar. First John 240. That means you you you can't just be saved by faith alone.
If that faith alone is a dead faith that produces no works, no goodness, no route is no regeneration associated with not saying that those of us who hold to the oneness deposition.
I believe in justification by faith alone in Christ alone. And then what you regenerated God works this other stuff in you and you freely do repent because of what you naturally to do when you regenerated so you see how the thing is difficulty so ask your friend to to define Lordship salvation and ask him to show where John MacArthur says what courtship salvation is and if he does say there is a two-step process.
Faith must come, and you must also do these other things in order to be a Christian and that will be a false teaching that I believe you teach right so that you II will arrive. Sounds good, but I write you two got blasts was good to Matt from Pennsylvania your life on here yet. I thought/question with regard to Lordship salvation go my perspective over the years is been a lot of confusion on defining Lordship salvation. I feel because automated that you you believe it would be appropriate to tell thinner that they must be willing to turn from sin in order to true genuine genuine repentance course they must turn from her since you write yet and yet that's basically the way I feel bad but I get like you would say oh that's heretical, and he said that that's part think the vacation no neck 1730. God says he convinced everyone to repent. All you doing is he just heard from her since you to trust and cry.
I guess I see the people you trust in Christ you just stop your sins, you do the I did I not saying these are the things that will get you saved is a combination I desire you to do these things and would cut his right, but probably worth saying also that sinner doesn't have to have victory over stand, but they must be willing to turn from their send right yeah yeah I bought a computer not because I even work with this guy. You claim that John MacArthur was teaching easy believe in them, as it is now to give you little book on Lordship salvation issue and out of your even read that book I got my hearing is either agreed to must be like that, but arrival good. We had a call as late as we move along to.
But organic map John Selleck city looking to show you earlier. Thank you. Thanks for taking my call. Sure, you know, I'm a member of the Eastern Orthodox Church that a good friend. It is a member of a nondenominational church, so-called non-and we have a continuous dialogue about the Eucharist and his position is that the Eucharist nothing more than a symbol where in my church. We believe that the real presence of Jesus Christ.
We don't use the term transubstantiation is using the Catholic Church go use the term real presence and and I'm wondering what you think about that because as I look at the Scriptures. Jesus says take the this is my body and think it's kinda like my body three permits all it is my blood of the new covenant, but I believe there's a real presence then of this morning with what your belief or my belief is that I'm not exactly sure what it is because the Bible doesn't tell us. And when he says it is my body can't be literal because he was incarnated, had not yet been crucified and resurrected and glorified so it could not be his literal body.
Otherwise, we have a potential violation of the incarnation with his physical body bring in more than one place at a time. That's from another problem is that in Leviticus 1711, Arthur seven 2014 says it forbids actually forbids that the drinking of human blood says nothing drink the blood of any flesh so he says my body is my blood. It can't be literal. Otherwise you be asking the Jews.
There is a cycle to violate the law and he wouldn't do that. So what's going on.
Well, I think they analyze and some people say that it's when he instituted the supper that it was a sacrifice body and blood will how can it be as it wasn't sacrifice to and if you want to say well he's outside of time and space and all that kind of stuff. It doesn't work and I could dismantle that so when I look at this I say it cannot be transubstantiation or consubstantiation, but at the very least the very I mean this in the literal sense of at the very least it could be something just a symbol. But let's sidestep and look at what circumcision was in the Old Testament.
Circumcision was in and I say this on purpose. This way, just a simple but was more than just a simple, even though it was just a symbol or something. Something associated with the simple because I think was an exit I forgot 25 forgot where victim or Moses did not circumcise his son supported his wife did that through the foreskin at his feet and blood probably touched up and saved his life will why is it that he was in trouble with God for not obeying that covenant will because the this the circumcision represented the covenant so it doesn't circumcision itself have any power will know but it's a representation of the covenant sign this communion itself have any power delegate ask, what is that mean do we say that it's a means of grace, as in grace is somehow infused into your soul is Catholicism teaches mistakenly know will this have power. While it has an effect on you all.
All our rights in.
I'm not a great cricket live so many are partaking because you get taken unworthily. That's why so many people are sick among us that there must be some power. Yes. But is it power that's inherent with in the communion itself or by the fact that they're not doing what's right and God is judging them in the ceremony. This is the question that we can't answer from Scripture and the Eastern Orthodox, less so than the Roman Catholics will save note it has actual power in it as though you can hold it and put on a scale and measure its heat wave is got power that kind of thing which being ridiculous, but can illustrate that I think power is that it communion with Christ, and Christ has power but I delayed my friend. We talk about. I asked what did Jesus live in your art were stated with the same way Jesus was present in the wind and the bread is done mystical way will.
Here's a question that can you defend that from Scripture that he lives in the communion in some mystical way because he said to Jesus that a bead is my body get some kind of a mystery because obviously, as you said earlier he had not died yet he had not been resurrected yet but he's present there and I'm Jesus that it and stop well yeah you see he's ubiquitous and he doesn't dwell on us.
I said I'll be with you always.
So what is it mean and when I actually talking the Eastern Orthodox people a lot lately and when they say that it we talked about this before this. It's mystical well to me. The games over that point because, well, what is mystical me like you know nothing rude, but it can mean almost anything you want to me because mystical and that's the problem I yeah I wouldn't delete I don't think that I think it means we can go so far intellectually but it goes beyond that, we have a what a paradigm of what it means week.
I have some understanding but then it's a mystery. Just as God as best we can figure out God, here's a question is if you know I was in a room with a bunch of Eastern Orthodox people, which I would love to do when we were discussing this at single. What is it needs is mystical.
It's a great.
I got a pencil and paper detailing with those attributes of mysticism are in the can't on the list. Anything will he's with us simply beyond our comprehension will in Christ there with. I don't think you understand my point is safe mystical is meaningless. It doesn't mean anything. It just mystical ones that mean all stated I think it's a collage of mistreatment when withheld from about time. I guess that's about the Gentile church with the Gentile is a different thing mistreated review again when you would dismiss that you would know the word mystery.
Now I would not because he tells us what the mystery is in weird what you cited the mysteries of the Gentiles will be included in the covenant. I know you know and I appreciate what I have a little bit better understanding of what you're saying even though I I would disagree, but I suspect thank you.
