Your voice is more cultural and spiritual revolution Michael Brown is the director of the coalition of conscience and president of fire school of ministry get into the line of fire now by calling 866-34-TRUTH. That's 866-34-TRUTH here again is Dr. Michael Brown well our office building is required, but our core team is here to view the broadcast welcome welcome to our special Memorial Day show this is Michael Brown. We are live. Maybe your listening live in you only have to listen by podcast, store, or afterwards by archive on our website because of your work schedule your unable to listen live at this time. Well, maybe this is your opportunity to call in 8663468663487884. Anything you want to talk to me about anything you want to ask Leung to be taking calls answering email questions weighing with my thoughts on what's happening in our society today so give me a call. Let's talk and will have a great broadcast today.

Let me.

Of course honor our veterans and their families of veterans.

Many of you right now are still in the recovery mode, having served recently, having lost a loved one, having had your own life radically altered. Some have been in the recovery mode for many years because a hole was left in your family that can never be filled in this world, our hats off to you. We are indebted to you for your service for your sacrifice for our country.

My dad served in the Korean War. My mom served in World War II. She's 93 years old today. She served in secretarial capacity obviously not let combat capacity so my own parents served. I was of the Vietnam war generation, but the draft ended shortly over right around the time when I came to faith so I was never called over to Vietnam. Many Vietnam vets still carry the scars. My son-in-law Ryan lost his dad to agent orange as a result of his dad service in Vietnam and was striking to me soldiers those in all of our different aspects of military, Air Force, Navy, Marines you you are serving a country and you're paying an ultimate price, or potentially paying the ultimate price is for something in this world and its worthy.

Many times it's a necessary evil. In other words, nothing that we would just want we don't just want to be at war.

We don't want to be killing enemies. Sometimes there are enemies symptoms they want to destruction, and that they want to hurt harm and there are just wars and their heroes and heroines who sacrifice themselves for the good of the country and Paul writes to Timothy and says in second Timothy to endure hardship as a good soldier of Messiah Jesus, that we who are followers of Jesus are called to live with the mentality of soldiers know that doesn't mean going out and killing enemies. It means being strong means having moral resolve. It means standing firm. It means being on Shay couple and immovable. It means enduring hardship, difficulty with courage so you who served as earthly soldiers are reminders to everyone would cost what it means to be a soldier.

We are you this Memorial Day and I speak to all followers of Jesus.

Let us take Paul's words, Paul's words to Timothy to heart in our own lives. Let us endure hardship as good soldiers of the Messiah, Jesus. Let us be toughened for battle of compassion for the love for the gentleness full of kindness, but full of courage for strength men and women of backbone men and women of conviction men and women who are in this for the long haul will persevere in the midst of suffering whole lot to talk about today, 866342. Anything you want to ask me phone lines are open file line of fire with your host Dr. Michael Brown get into the reminder fire now by calling 866-34-TRUTH here again is Dr. Michael Brown so I I spoke about the message and put it on an article form in the next week or so on the end of cultural Christianity in America and at the end of the service.

I was chatting with some folks may be listening.

Now it dad and his daughter, and he turned her onto the line of fire broadcast and she was saying that when she's leaving work that you space to get a 10 minute commute sit until she gets home. And that's the only time she gets to listen to the show and are very conscious that Sunday was about podcast literally two hours a day relisten live in your radio show as much time as you get or online for two straight hours but not many of you just like this young woman in the same situation that you're in the car for a few minutes and this is the time that we get to chat and I remember New York driver that used his driver and the delivery he told me that he prayed for traffic when he was out so he would get to listen to more of the show on W MCA in New York City, how must the others appreciate his prayers for traffic but hate if they were turned onto the broadcast to that they could be blessed along with him. While this young lady said she also prays for traffic so she's of the car longer and is inferred from other shows shall sit in the driveway until we get to the to the break and then go inside you know what that means to me. You know how much that blesses me and and how sweet that is, to my years and how meaningful it is to know that that we can play that role in your life so so thanks for letting us share together in this journey of life and in the sacred mission that we have here sent by the Lord to be agents of change in the time that we have this week is going to be. Chris, welcome to the line of fire Dr. area very well, thank you.

I want to I want Dr. Mark back to all the people it back apart.

The light brought great country and I feel even don't even bring up personal product, but a hollow day and I'm really grateful the family and their adult men and women flip. The light brought I called. I just struggling. I have been for quite some time now and praying whatever I'm supposed to learn from the lesson be able to learn them to remain in fate. Oil II just get quiet at the question I get. I received no answer and I just I'm I'm just old and I know that I'm black but dumb anyway and I just don't understand I don't understand why feel so isolated that I just can't seem to develop union anymore with the Lord.

I just don't know what to Chris. These are our very challenging situations.

The me first say that that most everyone of us at one time or another in the Lord and sometimes several times in our journey will go through seasons like this, they can last for months. Sometimes they can last for seven years and in the midst of it it it it seems like were not encountering God the way we used to.

It seems that you pray for an hour and and all you did was stop from drowning him and you can barely even catch your breath, and breathe freely and sometimes it seems that you you're running through needs mud up to the knees.

Everything is an effort, and that when you think the breakthrough comes.

It's it's not there. What I want to encourage you. Chris is is that, as James Jacob writes to us, the, the, the trying of our faith produces something wonderful and as Peter tells us the same thing and that's why James even tells us to rejoice in the midst of it of Paul tells us that that the things that we suffer produce in us perseverance, which then produces character, which then produces hope so. So here's my counsel to Chris if if we know their sin in our lives if we are walking in disobedience to God, then obviously the difficulties that we encounter.

We understand or direct result of of God pushing back against us and bringing us to repentance, obviously. But when that's not the case went as far as we know it will basically our life is right before the Lord. These things are going on and you have questions.

They Lord what's going on and I don't understand if you give me insight than I could know what I'm supposed to do or how we proceed to get answers. This is the time that in a spiritual sense makes boys into men or this is a time when we really become soldiers or this is a time when we really grow in faith. Well, what encourage you to do. Chris is the same thing that I've done at times like this, which is to go after God.

All the more earnestly and to know that seeking him is seeking the solution and the answer that even when you don't get specific answers to questions if you will continue to go after him. The longer the delay, the greater the blessing the longer the test, the greater the fruit of the. The longer the sense of being out of his fellowship, the more glorious the breakthrough will be when it comes.

So read James I chapter read first Peter the first chapter and begin to rejoice, even by faith even when you feel nothing and it surely is God is God.

Chris, he'll bring you through the end will say it was all for the good plan by the Expo line of fire with your host Dr. Michael Brown of your voice and more cultural and spiritual revolution. I will go back to Westchester County, New York.

Roger welcome to want to fire hello Dr. Brown hello about 10 days ago, I heard you say that you believe that we could walk away. Lord and I want to know how is God glorified by the can I ask you question this interview general beliefs Roger and did you believe that God is glorified in everything but which her own view, why believe that love never fails right but I guess that could you believe that God is glorified in everything that happens only in certain things that have inserted thing okay yeah so what I I don't follow your question, then God is grieved when people walk away on God does not rejoice over that God is grieved over that I'm in Scriptures warn us about walking away.

There many many passages that talk about Israel's apostasy that Telus don't make the same mistakes they made many passages in the New Testament urges to persevere to the end and warn us of the danger of walking away from God, but that grieves God God company was endurance for the correct everything great secure. If it's all about him, but don't get better, but we respond to the gift and in other words, God God holds us responsible when he says believe he doesn't make us believe and that's why over and over in the New Testament.

People are rebuked for unbelief. The rebuked for refusing to believe they reviewed for hardening their heart. So God gives us a gift that we can despise like it doesn't make us believe this it may help us somehow respond my own personal experience of a woman friend of mine from Times Square church walked away from Lord and she stopped by one. One night on a Sunday night service at your door to Caroline's comedy park across the street and want to stop by but she was like. Let about a year later I met her again and she come back to church your place, and she got she chose to walk away. She chose to come back in and God was convicting her not to walk away but you harden your heart and God is configured to come back and she softened her heart.

What you think it means Roger when the Bible says today if you hear his voice, don't harden your heart to God is greater art. Test someone's talking about there that's completely mixing two different verses went when God says don't harden your heart.

What is that mean does that mean you had that you can harden your heart right and what you're doing right now okay when it says pay careful attention to this. Lest you drift away. The 70 you could drift away. All I know that in my early walk I got into a legalistic ministry right and it drove me to an accurate guidebook of ministers and I got nearly over the same, trying to obey God as an extra material and the fear and then I discovered the word of the books are Charles Spurgeon and I just turn my whole life around.

But the thing is is that is that God is glorified by his grace and mercy and love and excitement. Roger elitist MPs also glorified in bringing judgment on sin he got was how I was gone that none on nonautomated know in the future. God will be glorified in judging sinners when you're Jesus at house and fight a lot. Roger, can I speak I speak are inasmuch, it is my show sir yes McQuesten I'm trying to help you. Okay, if you call out all right see that's it a listen. Friends you give folks a shot you dear best to help, but you can always tell in the attitude when people are calling with the question and when people are calling with an attitude so Rochester to try to help you if you listen right you've gone from one extreme to the others what's happened if you listen to my teaching on grace. You know, I teach against legalism. I teach against performance Christianity.

I encourage every believer to be so secure in the love of God that on your worst day you know he loves you just the same and that you not say because you pray to ours today you not say because you didn't think a lustful thought about your neighbor today. Your say because of what Jesus did I say that day and night.

And if you've read the hyper grace or the grace controversy or go and sin no more. When my older books you read any of those.

You'll know that we say it's all grace and we teach grace. The weights taught biblically, grace with responsibility. Grace with accountability to God disciplines those that he loves and he is glorified as the judge of the wicked, and Spurgeon.

We teach that as well sir, you've gone beyond Spurgeon teaches. I can assure you, because I too have been blessed by Spurgeon's writings. In fact he help me be a Calvinist, from 77 to 82. I'm not a Calvinist anymore haven't been since then, but I've got great respect for Charles Spurgeon. I love his writings and he preached holiness, you better believe he preached soul winning. In fact, he preached daily confession of sin and the importance of that before the Lord, although he absolutely believe that if you were truly like you would persevere in holiness to the end.

But he preached anything but a cheap gospel. As I'm sure you would agree, so that thing said God will be glorified in any Calvinist would teach this and Spurgeon would teach this God is glorified by judging the wicked in the future when Jesus returns in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who don't know God, he will be glorified as the righteous judge when he does that. And God is absently promised to keep us to the end.

He is infallible. His saving power.

He simply will not force you to stay in the house and if you walk away their consequences. This is all because of the weight glory of God's grace Roger. I pray you have years to hear my friends one more reminder. All this week beginning tomorrow, special testimonies, special phone calls words of encouragement as we share with you in the special sheriff on week.

Trust me, you will be blessed and encouraged and stirred over the course of this week and your gift of any size to help us. As you share with us participating partner with us the gift of any size so critical this week.

Thank you in advance to ask Dr. Brown a escapee or brown.org. Click on the only one to send you that special mini book 7 secrets of the real side it's the line of fire with your host activist, author, international speaker and theologian Dr. Michael Brown voice of more cultural and spiritual revolution get into the line of fire now by calling 66343 here again is Dr. Michael Brown. You can never America the beautiful. There is a steep price that is been paid for our liberties. It's up to us now as Americans without those liberties and agog glorifying way, not in a fleshly destructive way, this is Michael Brown were live on Memorial day. Any questions that you have of any kind that you want to ask me anything you want to talk about phone lines are open 866-34-TRUTH 87884.

I do want to comment on some news items as well that I want to get to some email questions I read a fascinating article yesterday about the Arab revolution.

The spring revolution from a few years back as I and others pointed out the the the spring revolution had become a sharia fall that many of the nations that experienced a people, many of the Muslim nations experienced if he will be at Egypt Viet, Algeria Viet, Libya, the Yemen that many of them saw a more radicalizing element, rise up and then of course pushback and division destruction. A lot of these nations marked by tribal factionalism.

So the tribal factionalism, sometimes even deeper than this Sunni Shiite divisions. Let's just say that this contributes much more to the dynamic of the country and the difficulty of holding some of these countries together. In any case, one of the points that was made in this this article was that there is a mistake that countries make in times of upheaval where they they end up looking to a political savior and it was it was a very articulate article and read it on national review. Just grabbing it here and hang out when you get the right one here by MG are Priya and six is read on the Federalist.

Okay. And the point she made was this, this is what I want drill home. It is dangerous to put your trust in one political leader or one person, be they military leader, whoever they are. During times of social upheaval. She says but whatever party or people put their hopes in one man. The promises of democracy begin to fade into the background. It's very, very true. Just think of this. Think of the excitement, hope and change this young Sen. Barack Obama hailed as the one and crouched thronging to hear him that years later there's pessimism is discussed so many of the changes that have come about have been negative and even destructive now many Americans are looking to another political savior Donald Trump. He's the man he's going to make America great again.

I prayed and said many times that my prayer for Barack Obama that he would be the greatest president in American history still happened in a few months it's would have to be pretty dramatic few months to turn things around. Obviously Donald Trump is elected or Hillary Clinton was elected or Bernie Sanders was elected I would pray the same prayers for them and all of the concerns that I have about each of them as candidates. I would hope that I would be wrong on each one that they would govern in ways that would be very different.

But what I can say with certainty.

Is this.

We are in dangerous ground. We put our trust in one person to turn things around to repeat whenever a party or people put their hopes in one-man promises of democracy begin to fade into the background. I say we need to take.

He that warning will be voting for both educated wise reason behind it but don't put your trust is right that this is Michael Brown. Here again is Dr. Michael Brown. I so choose a homeless guy as I just say in rainbows and ballet of green arrays Michael Brown, welcome back to this memorial day broadcast live on the line of fire 866-34-TRUTH I want to get to some email questions. Angela hi Dr. Brown this is my very first time contacting you. I'm a big fan of your ministry. Thank you for all you do, Angela.

You are quite welcome.

Thank you.

As requested through the first three questions are mindset questions my husbands is not a believer but the lease is asking many questions about God in the Bible but seems like he just likes to start an argument more than he wants to learn. He listens to your show almost every day, husband of Angela, thank you for listening and whatever reason, it is that you listen whatever motivates you to listen.

Thank you for tuning in. That means a lot to me. All right, so number one. I have a free care, Angela. I have a pretrip view. I know you do not explain why you do not have a tree, a pretrip viewpoint yet.

In short, Angela. Although the church which I was saved, taught that so that's what I knew out of the spiritual womb, so to say that was normal to me. That was the only right teaching to me. Initially I realized that I didn't learn it through reading the Bible alone.

I learned it through people telling me it's what the Bible taught you see by the time I was saved old two years read the Bible cover to cover about five times and I had memorized about 4000 versus restrictive six penses to memorize 20 versus every single day. So I I was in the word and the word in the word and the word and the word and if you asked me about anything that I believed I could give you Scripture. After Scripture if the Scripture of Scripture. But when I was asked for the rapture and the second coming. I did I go up why they didn't have a lot of verses to give you a certain point I began to wonder about that instead that's interesting. I can tell you everything else that I believe straight from Scripture, but this I can II guess I need to read more. So I started reading other books and that the books help me laid everything up within that IRS wait, wait, I got this from books not from the Bible was everything else. I believe I got just reading the Bible over and over so that raised serious questions and I I daresay that if you left 100 people along with their Bibles. They didn't they didn't have prior teaching on the second coming, they could read the Bible fluently. In Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek it if you left 100 of them alone for 10 years each in the rooms reading the Bible. Dan Knight, none of them would come up with this theory on their own. I do believe it is you. You wouldn't get the idea that there were two different phases to the second coming, the rapture and the second coming, separated by seven-year.

You might get ideas that there is future trouble, you might get ideas as a future telecommuter seven years.

You might get ideas that there's some special protection or exemption for believers. But here's the problem that the the versus that speak about the Lord's return verses that are allegedly rapture versus like first Thessalonians 4 right that that when the Lord returns, we we are here at the coming of the Lord, that first the dead in Christ will rise and then we will rise after them. That word is power see and Greek. That's the word that's used for the second coming. That's the word that's used speak of the Lord's actual arrival. When does the plane arrive I get on planes tomorrow to go to to to Italy. What what is the plane arrive not one visit get near the airport but when does it arrive. This is this a word. Speaking of an arrival that the rapture Jesus never arrives on earth. He he gets near earth and catches us up to me to be significant. No, I'm not because the word is actually speaking of an arrival.

And here's the big thing elsewhere. That same workhouse is used and an those who believe in a pretrip rafter say yeah that's that's the second coming. So the same word is used for the rapture, the second coming, which is completely confusing, such as that. What are we waiting for what we long for second Timothy the fourth chapter is a crown of righteousness for all those who long for his appearing. Second Timothy 48 right one for his peer rating, not a secret event not a hidden event and if he was nine Hill of peer the second time for us for for the people of God and all of these verses, verse after verse after verse. What were looking forward to is a visible event not a secret event so other Greek words that are used to are up a call Is revealing the revelation of Jesus. This is can be public open scene as the lightning shines from the east to the west of the coming of the Son of Man will be the whole world will see him at once. Somehow, and another with the family at this. This is a shining forth so the main Greek words that are used. To speak of the second coming his arrival. His revelation is shining forth.

They are all word. Speaking of him actually coming to earth and being seen visibly and have a second Thessalonians chapter 1, when does relief come to those who are suffering when the succumb comes when the Lord Jesus is revealed in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who don't know God, so that's when we are delivered when he comes in flaming fire. Now he's given us promises to protect us in the midst of tribulation. Didn't he say John XVI chapter, didn't he say that in this world you will have tribulation John 1633 the be of good cheer. I've overcome the world.

So in him we overcome but he promised 30 tribulation in this world. So we've been in tribulation since Jesus died and rose until he returns will be in tribulation. In this role. The Greek word is used many times in the New Testament.

Acts 14. We must through many tribulations enter the kingdom of God.

That's our lot here in this world tribulation. Even great tribulation. It's our law here in this world, but God's promise to preserve us through it or to protect us from his wrath. When his wrath is poured out. Second Thessalonians 2 says that day. The day we will be caught up to me and will not come until the rebellion happens first Greek word there does not speak of a of a catching way the saints. It's the rebellion and the man of sin is revealed, so these things will happen and will be here to see them happen before the Lord returns, but will be protected from God's wrath in the midst of a period of the outpouring of his wrath on the earth. Those are just some of the reasons that I don't hold your pretrip rapture, the things that I will divide over II don't get into fights with other believers about it and I work with people around the world that may hold your pretrip rapture effect many I don't know what they hold to because it's never got the way of our ministry or partner together for the gospel. Let me let me also say this disabled is coming with his saints Kate number one. That could mean with angelic beings in certain cases, number two, we will be caught up to meet him and will escort him back to earth. Think of that for the whole world to see will be caught up supernaturally and will return to earth with a more wonderful more extraordinary, more unbelievable than any Hollywood movie, and yet that will happen.

So rather than him coming all the way here stopping before hitting the earth, catching us up to meet him and then returning to heaven and then we feast for seven years and have all the Jews were slaughtered on the earth. Nono were right here in the thick of it to the end glorifying Jesus being witnesses preserved by his power in the midst of all hell breaking loose on the earth. Some of us paying with our lives for the gospel is happens in the regeneration when he comes the whole world season. We are glorified instantly caught up to meet him.

We escort him the rest of the way back to earth right from anxious husband where it will there be an opportunity for people to be saved. Once the churches rapture the world goes through the tribulation. A wonderful question.

The fact is I don't believe that there's going to be a rapture were taken out. In any case, it's the same gospel the same way of salvation. It's gonna be the same message Jesus saves the same message turn to God be forgiven and cleanse and be washed turn from our sin. God will have mercy on us and the biggest is were alive now. How you respond now that's what we do know reliably gonna die. How we respond to this time we have in the line of fire with your host Dr. Michael Brown voice of moral cultural and spiritual revolution. Here again is Dr. Michael Brown, like so I think what was behind her husband's quest was, let's say this whole rapture thing is true and maybe you're not sure about no wife believes it might believe you. Not really sure and okay then the rapture happens that you educate is true will to be time to get save them. I appreciate that question. Obviously many will realize all know made a mistake.

I've I've mock this message of missed this message. Now it's true and if that were the case if there was a pretrip rapture that I believe that multitudes would wake up to reality, and we cry out to God for mercy and many would be safe. However, others who said you don't know the hell it's going to break loose on the earth or the level of deception that's going to be on the earth, and many if you are deceived. Now you will be deceived. Then second Thessalonians 2 says that the God will give people over to a strong delusion is the refused to believe the truth of the words rather than embracing the Christ will embrace the antichrist and who knows what type of rationalization can be given another things like that. This this is what the Bible does say to day if you hear his voice to hard to day if you hear his voice to hard heart.

We don't know what tomorrow holds. And you're not responsible for someone else's life in terms of forcing them to believe or stopping them from believing or ultimately it's an individual and God. Each of us individually got the day we stand before God as I can be anybody else there holding our hands and we can hire a high-powered attorney and there is no U-turn and okay the meat legal back in and do this again are in golf terms.

Can I get a Mulligan here is to get a good shot at no none of that. So this is what we do know today if we hear his voice. We should not harden our hearts are part three grandsons question I do have any plans to come to Virginia preach of.

I preached in Virginia many times I'd outnumber the last time I did, and we have the right invitation to go gladly go and from where I live so far, but if you check my website asked Dr. Brown.org France if you haven't visited there visit lately. Please do we completely revamped. It's it's 100 times more easy on the I and and user-friendly and so so many ways so please visit the website and when you're there you will have access to all of our resources.

All of these articles. All of this information.

All of our videos, etc., but you also have our itinerary you see it right there on the home page so you can see were going to be next June a very exciting month, Italy and Australia will begin the live updates from Italy will be broadcasting live from Australia cobbling alright so those are my answers there and let's see. Sam has asked a question, Matt just make a mental note, I need to do a short video on this on one of her teaching videos. What exactly does it mean to blaspheme the spirit of safe spiritual, but I'm concerned they may have committed that my family was sick.

I was angry about like a praying for healing and thought to myself God. I believe in all the stuff and it's not working. How do so-and-so famous Mr. with a miracle working ministry do this you must be using some mystical stuff to do this many afterthought pseudo-no. I think I just attribute the work of God to Satan that I Sam.

If you harden your heart to the point of blaspheme in the spirit, then you would willingly and knowingly attribute the works of the Holy Spirit to Satan in a way where you have no interest in God. After that if you harden your heart to that level you not be writing unitedly using the word saved her spirit filled, you would be rejecting God mocking God away from God with no interest in God whatsoever yes rule we can see in Mark three.

The blasphemy of the spirit is to knowingly and willingly attribute the works of the Holy Spirit to Satan. That's what it's it says they're in Mark three he said this because they some the religious leaders were saying he has a demon, but those who have blaspheme the spirit have committed the unpardonable sin, meaning that they're gone, they have walked out. They turned their backs on the truth, they have no interest in God and the last thought on their mind is all my did I do something wrong know they they are even glorying in their hardness, so fear not in a in a difficult moment praying and expecting God to do good things, as he promised, and they didn't happen. You wondered know so is somebody else's charlatan site committing blasphemous sin. That's an honest question from a hurting heart and in a humble heart that wants to be right before God. Job said many things that were rash many things that were rash and ultimately God stood with Job, Job repented of his of the words but God stood with Job because God's God saw his heart, which was a heart to honor God either try to grab one more question about Rudy and Frederick, Maryland. Time is short but go for Dr. Brown I would wander negative. I that we will always our tribulation, but what what you have to say about market or 21 nine about a great religion felt the you think that already happened or what were you Buick local two things.

The first context has to be the destruction of Jerusalem in the year seven. The first context is Jesus speaking to his disciples there. So there was hellish suffering and in that sense I just like that the Babylonian captivity. There, there are many things that have happened in history. Regards, said nothing like this will ever happen again. The Jacobs trouble and inch in Jeremiah 30, which first and foremost respond first refer to the destruction of Jerusalem terrorized a that was an event that happened in a way that was never repeated the same thing. Matthew 24 then will be great suffering, unlike anything that is happened from beginning the world with the tech until now, or ever will happen there. There is something unique with that okay but then it seems that this is not fulfilled yet that it was partially fulfilled with the destruction of the temple, and that at the end of the age there will be another time of severe tribulation and testing all around the world of let me say this, the Rudy for those who have been beheaded by ISIS for those who have watched their families, their daughters raped to death for those who have been buried alive and burned alive and dropped into vats of acid until there organs were just gone till they were just a massive of flesh.

They've experienced great tribulation to the million and half Jews slaughtered Jewish children and baby slaughtered in the Holocaust that experience great tribulation.

In other words, there have been periods of horrific human suffering throughout history. Each one in certain ways unprecedented and unique and at the end of the age, I believe we will see the finale of that as well. As God moves in unprecedented ways, and is the devil moves an unprejudiced and unprecedented ways and is God's wrath is poured on us in world and yet God's people are protected from God's wrath is not from the wrath of man (which is more time but the hours of thank you sir for an important question. My bottom line today on this Memorial Day. Remember the hell more. Remember the hell in this world. Remember God's promises are sufficient were live on this Memorial Day. I have a special guest and Old Testament scholar who's going to talk to us about some of the difficult thorny passages in the Old Testament.

It's time for the line of fire with your host activist and author, international speaker and theologian Dr. Michael Brown your voice of moral cultural and spiritual revolution Michael Brown is the director of the coalition of conscience and president of fire school of ministry get into the line of fire now by calling 866-34-TRUTH. That's 866-34-TRUTH here again is Dr. Michael Brown for joining us on this memorial day. We are live on the line of fire, take your calls and with a special guest about to join us. 8663 for eight 784 lumber, call 8664 truth.

I will be having a good day.

Hope you're getting some rest and some family time and to all veterans all families of veterans. Thank you for your service. Thank you for your sacrifice. Thank you for your courage. My dad is a mention. The first hour served in the Korean War. My mom served in the secretarial capacity in World War II and you know, things were different then in terms of military personnel coming back from war and receiving a hero's welcome being honored by the society that this day. To this day when when I'm flying and just any day of the year and we have serviceman on the flight and there in uniform, they get cheers they they get treated with respect and in fact the one person universally who will get treated with respect. When when they come on a plane in their uniform and their garb.

It's it's not a priest or or or or some monk or some person just just wearing there.

The uniform that identifies them the one they could specially audit is military and of course if if they have military ID they can board early and things like that.

The airlines seek to honor them and sometimes will have a special announcements also just returned from service of everybody sitting there to get claps so there still is honor and respect.

But those who came back from Vietnam war came back from unpopular war and you know you got anything but a hero's welcome and those who come back from Iraq and Afghanistan. It it's not the way it was with Vietnam. But there's so much division in the country over the wars that you made great sacrifices and sometimes come back unrewarded but I firmly believe there are far more who appreciate the sacrifice those who don't. For more who honor the courage of serving in the military, and ultimately this much we know America is far from perfect. With the wars we've engaged in what we've sought to do so with honorable purposes. I don't believe personally that we went into Iraq just because we want an ulterior motive to get get our hands on Iraqi oil or mess with the Middle East. I believe we we sincerely thought as Democrats and Republicans believed up to that point that Iraq did have weapons of mass destruction even in are trying to rebuild Iraq in a democratic way. I believe the intentions were right, even if the approach was ill-conceived, but where we have served and what you have sacrificed even in the midst of America's failings and even as you come back to the country and see so many things that are grievous. Just know that your services never in vain that we are indebted to you.

8663 foray 87884 is the number to call if you have some questions in a few minutes we will be taking questions and calls but first I went to speak with a fascinating author who's written some fascinating books that I have personally benefited from David Lamb Old Testament scholar and it's a discussion that you certainly don't want to miss and I hope and pray will be a blessing to you on this Labor Day and all the rest of the week beginning tomorrow.

Excuse me tomorrow and then through Tuesday of next week.

We have very very special broadcast for you in Italy for much of the time of any live updates from Italy and very very special plan. Don't want to miss a single one of them. Trust me on that of a more literally the line of fire with your host Dr. Michael Brown your voice of moral cultural and spiritual revolution. Here again is Dr. Michael Brown and let him (one of our broadcast or live in.

I'm thrilled to have on the air with me, David Lamb his newest book prostitutes and polygamists look at love Old Testament style Dr. Lam.

Interesting. Interesting academic background bachelor's degree in economics from Stanford Masters degree in and ended industrial engineering from Stanford then Masters degrees in divinity from for theological seminary and philosophy from Oxford and entered the D.Phil. doctrine philosophy from Oxford University of first book of his that I read God behaving badly is the God of the Old Testament, angry, sexist and racist.

His new book, prostitutes and polygamists look at love Old Testament style hey David, thanks for all what happened.

David, let's find out what happened to David Betsy. We will reconnect was the introduction that offended no one up on things. Introduction offended him was that hearing America the beautiful that offended him.

No, I don't think it was that was that he has a problem with memorial date. No thing is that but somehow we lost him. We have our guests on.

Obviously a few minutes before chat with them and then we are ready to go, so will reconnect with with David in a moment, but we get books sent to us every week for folks who would like to be on the show or from publicists, yet the aliens again that I was talk about them when I preach yesterday morning we had a problem with my Mike for a moment of we get books sent to us constantly from folks who would like to be on the air. We have publicists that send us books. I have colleagues and friends who send me their books and say hey could you do an interview with me on the air. It's, it's quite the opposite with with Dr. Lam. I have read his books and really enjoyed them and I I told her folks say let's let's see if we can get him on the air and it just happened to work out to get him on this memorial day. So David, are you there with us.

Yes, I am sorry don't know what happened but I'm I'm pleased to be with you all here on a more excellent degree to be leisure get you there Here okay still you know every every so often it first happened, David. Maybe this is her next book is well. Someone called in and wanted to talk about alien abductions, which was the last thing I plan on talking about that particular show which led to a flood of phone calls and suddenly all the phone lines were lit up with people wanted to talk about whether this was true or not and I said okay listen no calls after these all the phones lesson when I get the last of these calls were done with changing subjects, and suddenly all the calls disappeared.

So my theory.

My theory was that aliens were about to be exposed on national talk radio and they are not ducted. All those people at the same time so anyway maybe.

Maybe future toddlers.

No other possible reasons for now know what reason could there be, of course you're an interface like I am right, David. In all seriousness went when I got God behaving badly and with with my degrees and in Semitic languages and Old Testament studies through that through the decades when I got God behaving badly. What what I thought of this is this is too much is it I lost him at sky. There is no other explanation.

It's gotta be aliens figure this out. Wow. Okay were joking with joking it's not aliens don't panic. Is that illegal aliens don't don't panic.

That's not it will will try this again and and if we have some problem will want to reconnect another day. But this is this is very very odd yeah that could be Joey that the phone companies on holiday because it's Memorial Day.

If you have absolute secure connection will will figure out the problem is and yet you know Matt, I think that is the one that is going to be my claim to fame and maybe we can change the intro instead of your voice of moral cultural experience revolution. I can be Dr. Michael Brown, the new Orson Welles I David it's becoming increasingly clear has to be aliens. I think so yeah I'm not sure what happened but I'm glad happy to be here and talk about books so yeah listen as it happens once more will will just have to step back figured out and reschedule another day. But what what I what I really appreciated with God behaving badly and I was prostitutes and polygamists which which I just got last week is that you had on tackle some of the thorniest most difficult subjects in a way where you are 100% standing in faith and believe in the Bible is God's word and the God of the Bible is good and yet not coming up with cheap excuses you're really taking things on head on. Honestly what what got you into all of this in the first place. And how is you feel so at home tackling these kinds of things. What a great question. You know my I doubt you know you were thinking about Edward. Remember moralizing on people that have gone before us all to talk about my mom and dad and I was young. Give me a love for Scripture and an that that developed over my years. I went off to college, got involved in an organization called inter-varsity Christian Fellowship and I was taught how to study Scripture, and I think I loved about both my parents background and my background in inter-varsity. We looked at part of the Bible that a lot of people didn't look at him we would just be through Scripture systematically and pretty early on I realized I love I love old Bible, but I was drawn to the part that I was less familiar with, and we all encounter the purse calls first Timothy all Scripture is inspired and profitable for teaching, I firmly believe that but I don't think the church I think Turk believes that by don't think in reality we practice what were believing there and we don't benefit were missing out. Really, I would say by not looking at the part of get ignored.

I think the thing about it is that tragic is there. This is what Paul was saying it.

We profit it is we profit and we we get equipped as we look at the parts of the Bible that portray parts of God that are things about God that we may not like may not be familiar with, but if that's what God's word is teaching you know we will benefit by not ignoring the story those parts of laws etc. so yeah I don't know I am IIII also. I also it's hard for me to teach on very knowing about the disconnect I got to come up with something really creative, hard for me to be a preacher that just preaching your text but I think I think I think I can come up with something no different or unique.

When I'm looking at the much less familiar story yeah and you know you make the point that all Scripture is that is inspired but profitable.

So it's one single case inspired. I don't see the inspiration of this that we try to figure out how it could still be God's will and some of the defensive posture. But if it's profitable. There has to be something positive in it and I I remember I remember the week we had a friend who was inter-varsity leader for many years and it was probably late 70s early 80s he was coaching us on having Bible studies in our homes and having unbelievers and and his style was such that you could say you know I was reading the Bible and I realize now that Adolf Hitler is actually Bhutto who is actually Jesus and he would like just now the good insight now is nothing with face himself in that environment. How do you see that an attack that might never question your people can come up with whatever they come up with but I'm like okay you did on the text and in and out of the can have a hard time without an idea but it cannot. People are always teach and I'm in a situation of teaching Genesis recently in people with comfortable, like pastors, that's it like okay that's great. And in all of his announcement. After loved God and loves Jesus, but how do you see whatever your pastor was seen. How do you see that coming out Scripture. I think those the questions we gotta be acting even when were sitting listening to a sermon, how this idea coming out Scripture how is God thing in God's word.

I think that's really the question study and study and even the click leave.

The difficult part. Yeah, I will listen. Just this one as we got a break coming up.

But what I want has to come back. How is it that your faith is remain strong in you even written on these things. Looks like God behaving badly in prostitutes, polygamists, others say they've lost faith. They can't believe in a God like that Bible like that will be right back with David T. Lam for the Expo line of fire with your host Dr. Michael Brown get into the line of fire now by calling 866-34-TRUTH here again is Dr. Michael Brown guest on this land, prostitutes and polygamists look at love Old Testament style.

His blog is David T Lam.com and you'll find excellent scholarship presented in a humorous and edifying way in a way that doesn't shy from the difficulties of tax liens into them to bring us to edify conclusion. So David I've I've read accounts of folks recently, a heavy-metal singer that was in a court heavy-metal Christian band city started reading the Bible again for himself and all these passages he had read. But this kind of look the other way of the passages that you deal with your books God behaving badly in prostitutes and polygamists and based on that. He said he could believe in a God like that you'll hear Richard Dawkins, the famous atheist rail against the God of the Bible. Yet you've seen those same passages you've looked at them more deeply than most people have. And yet, rather than losing faith you find that these are scripturally profitable. How did you do that without sticking your head in the sand and just kind of going into blinders on faith mode. Great question. Well first of all I would say everybody approaches Scripture with a plan. Theologians will Bible scholars talk about hermeneutic baby people more skeptical might call it a buyer but a perspective I think I'm in what I'm I'm approaching Scripture. I would say that I'm approaching it from the length of debate and are people out there that would probably say more that the skeptics agnostics might say that my faith is nave, but I am I'm trying to make fence pushing into the problems but I'm also trying to make sense of the contrite of viewing trying to view them from an angle of okay this God of the Old Testament actually ventilated.

God is Jesus.

No, God is one in the same how how can I make sense of and I thought I'd try to push the problem not downplay the problem but also try to view it from the perspective of the entire story and being that there is a God behind even it's really difficult. That is a God of love and a God of mercy, that yes he does bring about judgment. But ultimately the God of compassion great for me that's been a big part of it. I'm giving just I do need to just say a couple of years ago when I started speaking within the year of having God behaving badly, out I went through a very difficult virtual struggle blogger was focusing as you say on some of the nastiest bits of the Bible and that, all I was teaching on an icon of data it actually affected my health. I had never had health problems like that I would not sleeping well at night. I had vocal cord issues, I started having issues with reflux.

And then I started having anxiety issues not think I have panic attacks.

All this other stuff in there and I don't going all the details. That's enough that that's a lot but.

But it was perhaps the worst time of my life and I just realized there's no going on here and I did need to have more people prayed for me and I started to cut be more open about my struggles and like to know when I would speak on these issues are taken on and pray for me because there's a way that I'm kind of moving into the trenches.

I got to the front line and I just need more people to be praying for me and actually that, with the turning point for me in the eye I got it that affect the yeah I am being supported and that I'm caught God is calling me into some of these areas and I feel like I'm I want to become a prophet to want families.

Christian people are reading the Bible to take these texts more seriously. But I need I need to not do this navely and I need to help our support of people that can sympathize and try think about that. What has allowed me to but I approaching with a length of faith, but then in the last two years.

More particularly, I need to be making sure that there are people out there that are supported in praying for you and if there is spiritual warfare. There is real spiritual realm. I'm on the front lines day and night, but very little affected by it. For the most part I've I've had my hellish seasons.

Of course, an ongoing warfare, but I I'm sure. Also it's it's because of prayer support David let let's do this.

Let's unpack just one concept you can pick from either but we got about three minutes before the next break where we look at something that that people dissing negative bad judgment heart yet.

You see redemptive side are ending to just to sample us one thing from Scripture right now. Well, okay, we could talk about the Canaanites, which is yeah one of the worst bits. I think that you were God told the Israelites of their leaving Egypt moving into the promised land.

They need to wipe out the Canaanite people, man woman and child horribly, horribly troubling story another pickle. A lot of Christians will focus on well the Canaanites were being judged and I think that's true Scripture make that clear. I think we could talk more about the Canaanites, but I think one of the Colonel's of hope I see in this is just the story of Rahab the prostitute who shows mercy to these issues. She should hospitality duties to spy risks her life to basically become A traitor for her people in order because she'd know the God is given, the Israelites, the land she is. She is a person of faith in the midst of this difficult time and so and as we step back and look at they will direct you to view other people like Rahab. Anybody that shows hospitality is shown hospitality and mercy as well. In this narrative, and as we move over to achieve this with the Rahab the Canaanite prostitute show up and she is the second person in the family tree). Matthew's gospel how can we just be with you the story of the gospel bear how God can work through this woman like Rahab, shows hospitality, not just Rahab, but that her entire family is brought in to the people of Israel and even our Lord and Savior Jesus comes out of her line. I just think what an image of hope and redemption is amazing story. I so there is. There was guilt that was so severe. Let's just say that if Isys troops were being wiped out and people working with Isys were being wiped out. We would all say it's it's rights we don't know how wicked the Canaanites were we know that God waits several hundred years.

According to Genesis 15 and cutting wickedness reaches a certain level, but even the midst of it. God's looking for opportunities to show mercy and I will and to tithing, and ultimately with Jesus. Yet you've you've got to look at the larger picture right friends will be right back. Dr. Lance agreed to give us a few more minutes of his time on this memorial day check out David T. Lam.com for his blog. And if you struggled yet.

What about the slaughter.

The Canaanites were about these other judgments in the Old Testament.

It just seems so harsh, God behaving badly. What about I mean some sexual stuff. The Old Testament seemed got accepted, but it seemed wrong. His newest book prostitutes and polygamists look at love Old Testament style. It's the line of fire with your host activist, author, international speaker and theologian Dr. Michael Brown voice of more cultural and spiritual revolution get into the line of fire now by calling 66343 here again is Dr. Michael Brown and ballad of the Green Berets on this memorial day were live Michael Brown.

Welcome to the line of fire. Thanks for joining us today and we send our heartfelt appreciation to all of you who have served to the families of those who served our nation to help us to be free.

May we honor your sacrifice by living in a way that honors the Lord.

I have a special guest joining me. Dr. David Lam. He is an Old Testament scholar.

His most recent book prostitutes and polygamists look at love Old Testament style before that another book of his that I really enjoyed God behaving badly is the God of the Old Testament, angry, sexist and racist. You can check out his blog@davidtlam.com, a David, thanks for joining us on the broadcast today. Glad to be here all right, let me dive right in to your new book and I'm I'm a Jewish believer in Jesus soul. I'm looking at the history of my people Israel and the Hebrew Scriptures and were not always presented in in the best light and it seems you know that even with the patriarchs have all kinds of sexual scandals in what you got a moan in Moab that are born out of an incest that the daughters having relations with their father but that's looked at as a negative, not a positive and in yet the that the tribes of Israel. The 12 sons of Israel. They come from Jacob being married to two different women and and then with them there thereof. Concubines and that was forbidden by by labor law. Leviticus 18. You couldn't have two sisters so I what we do with this. I mean, it's a bit of a mess. And yet this is the scummy origins that the patriarchs yet is, troubling, I think, although we have the words acute of politics that you know you he is the chief of sinners to the worst of all sinners on and we see that you know what Paul them trying to kill the early Christians and act in the book of acts. I think you know even that the mistake that the disciples are always making and that the gospel I think that the thing I'm it's troubling.

If we assume these people who were chosen by God are going to be completely pure and holy. If we acknowledge like Paul said the chief of sinners.

Oh gosh, the people in the Old Testament are going to have some pretty big sin as well and the people what what achieve the stated income for the righteous for the fetters on those respect have no need of admission and the reality is, anybody was a Christian. If that gap. I'm pretty sick I'm I'm really messed up. I cannot do it by myself and we feed out in the Old Testament with the and affect the fact I think that's one of things I love so much about the Old Testament is you know that they're not sanitizing the story. If they're not cleaning it up and often I do a lot of work with some ancient near Eastern narrative that these ancient narratives are always cleaned up yet make the you know what you're talking about Nebuchadnezzar are you talking about Hammurabi are you talking about Ramses the second, that the dispute histories are cleaned up make-believe heroes look more heroic and more faintly of Scripture doesn't do that at all. It did an x-ray just feels real and you think how gathers Jacob not Aiken Jacobson. On one level it is not that bad at least in this regard could he didn't want to have you come mostly just wanted it is wanted Rachel but Laban wanted to hang out and have Leah and then impeach of those Rachel and Lee H wanted him to have more kids through their their handmaid's tale and just jump in there with continua Jacob and the other side of the brace and and then I've got a few questions get fewer minutes with Dr. David Lam visit his blog, David P. His newest book prostitutes and polygamists look at love Old Testament style to work or talk about the birthing of the 12 sons of Israel to become the 12 tribes of Israel and Jacob, not by choice of his own marries to ours, which we know something, nothing that the God desires. It's it's contrary to what he lays out Leviticus 18 which are universal prohibitions for everyone there. And yet, through this and through the jealousy between the wise and the handmaids to become talk advised it. Jacob through this. The tribes of Israel. The bursa what what we learn from this narrative in a constructive way that the great question I would say well I mean I think we often see how God can work despite human God's plan are not thwarted by human depravity and I think that I get the fact that the Scripture tells the story which is not you go back to Genesis to be the ideal one man one woman together forever. That's the ideal, but the reality throughout the rest of Scripture and in optically and in Abraham, defendant, and as it would. Jacob is the reality is it's not ideal. I think I would hope that this could speak to a lot of us today with think I'll gosh my family situation is not ideal. And you know some of us have really on all of us. What we have the great things about our family, but I think all of us because we all come from families that are made up of people were sinners is all all of us have levels of functionality and broke and so when we look and with the gosh, you know, even the people of the Bible have issued you know my mom I am the child of my mom's second marriage and you know, God makes it clear that he hates divorce, but I kinda think okay all of mom with a divorce I wouldn't be here and I think that's that's not ideal, but it is it is reality. Think of people read the stories about people that have not ideal families like Jacobs, the Konica okay dockets to work through Jacob. God can still work through David, the king and you know he had certainly him some really huge issues of whatever else that happened with Bathsheba. I like to call it adultery. I think it's by more like rape that we could not. It's a little bit gray but God still work through David, and I think that amazingly hopeful. For those of us who have in all of us to get off them up on ideal baggage in our background. I think that's an issue in an image of a message of hope yet is a checkered past, God can't do something tremendously redemptive and is again even the genealogy of Jesus to look at that in to see some of the key people included in that how eye-opening that is.

And Solomon ends up being first from David that she records he sends trying but still he was called the loves of the war that was the name he was given so solicit let's look at David and and make this my last probing question here again from the book prostitutes and polygamists look at love Old Testament style and then before that God behaving badly. It will address so many things you've read and wondered about and in a humorous way in a forthright way, but in the redemptive way above all, one on the one hand, we know David was a man after God's own heart was an extraordinary individual. On the other hand, we know that he blew it very severely. Adultery/rape murder for sure.

So it's, it's, you know, if I say so-and-so is a great guy and he loves the Lord he just raped a woman killed her husband is a great cuff and that of course he was the king had power to do what. But most of us think about, he can actually do and yet it second Samuel tells us everything in gory detail in the first Chronicles doesn't tell us the bad stuff. What you make of that. What's God saying through that, what can we learn and how can we not just thing out whatever so whatever scandals the pastor so-and-so raped her dad. No big deal because we we don't hold that we know that leaders have to be held to a high standard Another great question.

I'm actually working on a commentary right now king and one of the problems I'm working through his how David is very reviewed very positively and talked with David completely walking with the Lord like perspective of Chronicles what you displayed out David completely walked with the Lord.

Oh, except in the matter of you with little capital little brief comment on right way, what's up with that so I think that's it that's it hard and it is hard I think Chronicles and kings need to be read in light of Samuel Reiners. As you said just a minute ago. Daniel does portray his very next negatively. I'm named after David so that is my name statement. I feel a bond with him, but I also think Scripture with did not gloss over what he did. You know what the thing is at the end he repented, yes, he made it very clear to Nathan. First of all, and then he writes this on Psalm 51 know it and that connected to the incident with Bathsheba and he was he was a man of repentant acute it was. It was a man after God's own heart, but he was a man that was bare it fell hard, and that in the realm of sexual conduct of scholar that generically and then obviously orchestrating the murder of Uriah TM he repented he repented to make repetitive all 51 I think it's in light of that repentance that we can say okay Chronicles and kings doesn't feel like they need to dwell in but Chronicles and kings needed continued be read in light of that part of the bigger story and yet in the story of Daniel is part of the story as well and it ain't a mentor every point. So Samuel does tell us plainly. The horrific consequences of Davidson so at any of you reading the whole body, not just reading one book so just like some of the Gospels tell us things that the others of his don't.

So on the one hand we see the terrible consequences of sin. So we learn from that and we cemented in the decline in in David's authority or kingship to the struggles that follow we see the death of his repentance is immediate repentance and second Samuel 12 and then articulated as Psalm 51. The superscription tells us to read that against the backdrop of Davidson. So we see the intensity of his repentance.

But now we see God the Redeemer of the Psalms are in the Bible the David's name outside of Jesus's is mentioned more than any human being that walked on the earth over thousand times and and and kings is nothing in and Chronicles almost nothing in terms of the negative so that there is this incredible redemptive message that is no way you can think no big deal if this scandal let's llama could destroy everything.

Your ministry may never be the same again. And yet there is redemption with repentance.

There is redemption with repentance and again it's just it's complicated. There's the judgment of God through the repentance of God. But then, as you say, the consequences are severe and look what happened but text doesn't always say what Amnon does or what Adonijah does or what Absalom does is directly protected and always directly make that link but I think for those with the know the story.

We can feed the Some of the Problems the David House with His Oldest Son, Amnon, and Then with His Son Absalom and with Adonijah Do Seem to Be Connected and I Just Think That You Know There the Way to the Center Now Sometimes God Went to Repentant Sinners, God Will Show Mercy. But the Reality Is, There Were Just a Natural Implication, What David Had Done That, the Path That David Chose Not That Tragic but That's Reality. Yeah so so the Lessons Are Learned and Get the Whole Scene Always Is God the Redeemer and of Course Solomon and Exaggerated Way Than Carries out Some of the Sexual Sins of Us Whose Father He, David, Can You Share for Whom Your Writing the King's Commentary on Yeah I'm Running for Him for Zondervan and That the Story of God Commentary.
