Kingdom Pursuits, where you hear from ordinary people instilled with an extraordinary passion. Together we explore the stories of men and women who take what they love and let God turn their passion into kingdom pursuits.
Now, live from the Truth Booth, your host, Robbie Dilmore. How fun today we are. You know, coming straight off to Christian Cargas Show, where we know about passion for cars. How about passion for trucks and truck drivers? And we've got George Palmer and Tony Pershala with Faith Road Ministries.
And we also have Ramona Tuma, who is the author of Prisoner of Hope: Captured by Grace. How cool a song? How cool a. Title is that.
So we're going to be getting. her shortly, as well as we got George Palmer. Who is again with Faith Road Ministries.
So, for our listeners that have never heard of Faith Road Ministries, George, share.
Okay. Uh and I'm gonna just pull a a quick one on you here and have Tony answer that question. 'Cause uh he's been with with it the longest and he's the director. All right.
Well, Tony. Yes. Go ahead, Tony. All right.
Well, we started, uh Uh two thousand eight. We I it was a national organization, Transport for Christ. And about seven years ago and Is it just a A truck Perfect. Convert it into a chapel? Truck trailer.
Right, Erica. And so They Yeah. the our purpose and their purpose was to evangelize truck drivers Because truck drivers are the least evangelized group in the United States. That when you say that again slowly, the truck drivers are the biggest what group? The least evangelize group in America.
Really? Yeah. You know, I mean, there's three million people with uh Class A license. And No, I'm not saying there's three million drivers. There's just three million people with drivers.
But like every day in uh The TA truck stopped there on exit one hundred thirty eight. Um We have different trucks almost every day. You know, sometimes they'll stay two days when they're Uh you're under a furlough kind of You know, they gotta be off for twenty-five hours. Right. We have different drivers all the time.
That is so cool. Again, we're going to find out what Faith Road Ministries does. Does. I know they have worship services and stuff like that, but there's a whole lot to it. We're going to get to that in a minute.
But also, we have Ramona. Um Tuma? And Ramoma has got this amazing, amazing ministry. Uh And the book that she authored, which is Prisoner of Hope Captured by Grace. And so there's really a story behind that one, right, Ramona?
Yes, there is.
So I read something that I know is going to grab the listeners attention.
Something along the lines of you were sitting there playing with your family and friends one night, and all of a sudden you got a phone call. Yes. And there was a contract put on my life. And they were telling me that uh they had taken the money to take my life. $37,000, I've just received $37,000 to kill you.
Is what it said? Is that right? Yeah. Light. Does it seem I I can't even imagine what went through your head right that second.
Yeah. Oh, what I did was I screamed for my husband and I slid down the wall. Yeah. And I went. Oh, Carrie.
Somebody's trying to kill me. And uh We went from there.
So I assume it just seems like to me, if I was going to kill you, I would not call you and tell you. But Yeah. Yeah. Well, he was This guy that received the money Had taken the money and went to Italy with it and decided to call me to see after he got back to see how bad of a guy this was. That one of the kill me and did he think he was in trouble.
And my husband said, Well, what do you think? you know. How how how how serious do you think he is? He just gave you the money for it. Captured by grace.
You can see there's quite a story here with Ramona Tuma. And again, going back to you, George.
So, your association with Faith Road Ministries, how did you get involved?
Well, I uh Tony from And I'm not sure exactly. George, do you have your radio on? No, I'm most of them. Are you on speaker on your phone? Yeah, I am.
Yeah, you can't do that.
So 'cause it's it makes it making Unfortunately we end up with next to no right.
Okay. How how's this? That's much better. Yes. Yeah, Tony and I uh went to church together and he asked me one day if I might be interested in and helping out um I did the speaking uh on on occasion.
Yeah. And he said, How would you like to come down and? do a little sermon for our truckers. And in those days, sometimes we would get eight or ten would come in.
So I went on down there and gave them my testimony. And then we talked afterwards, had a great time. And uh I've been working with them off and on. As I said as he started to describe to you, Uh he he left the original uh Okay. Yeah.
to bought the trailer that they were working in. and put gave it his his own name, which is Faith Road Indust uh Ministries. And um What they what we do is in the evening And sometimes in the morning, I guess on Sundays, but Um in the evening We'll make the rounds to the trucks that are parked out there and ask uh guys if they would like to to come to a service. Tell them it's going to be at the chapel. And we give them a handout too.
And um It has a lot of information about Faith Road Industries and And uh faith in general. And uh Tony, how many have we we handed out this year? Um eighteen sixty-six. Uh uh magazines. It allows January 1st.
1866. Have you ever been handing those out and people didn't want them and they were pretty much made you aware of the fact that you've interrupted 'em? On your mic. Yeah. Yeah, we've had a few, you know, and uh Uh and some people are are just uh an anti uh religion, period.
But that that's not s not very often. We've had guys come in there that had never been in a church. But you know when you're on the road in a truck, it's hard to get to a church and and a lot of these guys have to t uh they go cross country and They're traveling on Sundays.
So you don't have the opportunity. Right. And you guys are in Whitsit, North Carolina, am I right? Yes, a T and A truck stop in Wixet. And for those who aren't familiar with where Witsit is.
What interstate is that on? to forty and eighty five when it emerged. We're 40 and 85 merged there just south of Greensboro. And Greensboro, and you go towards Burleson. We're between Greensboro and Burlison.
Right. Right. And, like you said, it's a TA truck stop right there. And I can even remember seeing that chapel right there. That's pretty awesome.
And what an opportunity. R Ramona, uh Getting back to the Prisoner of hope captured by grace. Um You know, where did it fit into the situation that these people were trying to kill you?
Well, um my ex-husband uh had taken taken my children. We didn't know where they were for about a year and a half. Oh my god. Severely abused. And my son ended up in a hospital and my daughter in a foster home.
And then I got a uh anonymous phone call. telling us where where they were. And then from there We went through four and a half years of court trials. I was determined to terminate my exciting parental rights Because he had stolen my children. Oh my goodness.
And And so, um, after four and a half years, Uh we thought we had Um Oh, I hate we gotta go to a break, Ramona, when we come back. We're going to hear a lot more from Faith Road Ministries and Prisoners of Hope. Captured by Grace, we'll be right back. You're listening to the Truth Network and TruthNetwork.com. Welcome back to the United States.
Kingdom Pursuits where we hear how God takes your passion. and uses it to build the kingdom today. We're so blessed to have with us George Palmer and Tony Pershala with the Faith Road Ministry. That's to truckers there in Whitsit, North Carolina, as well as Ramona Tuma. Prisoner of Hope Captured by Grace.
What a story that is. Uh sounds like God. Um Some real challenges in all that situation and spoke. You know, you guys may not be aware, but on Kingdom Pursuits, we always try to play shenanigans. And so speaking of challenge.
Cause now the fun begins. Cause now it's time to play shit. Oh, yes, it is. And so you now have an opportunity, guys. George and Tony and Ramona to try to answer these riddles and then the the audience has a chance at the end.
So Here we go first one And I know Nick is ready, Randy's ready. I'm ready. Why should you never challenge death? to a pillow fight. Why should you never challenge death?
To a You got any ideas, Romana? No, not a bit. No, how about you, Tony? No, I'm a love. You'll get smothered.
Oh, that's pretty good. You could get smothered. But how about you, Randy? You got any ideas? I don't have a clue.
Well I've heard they're a reaper Cushions, cushions. Yeah, that's you. He that's what he uses, reaper cushions. Yeah. Yeah.
I wouldn't have to do it. I debated with myself about this next one, but the more I thought about it, the more I liked it.
So we're going to go ahead and go with it.
So. What do you do when your wife challenges you to a game of strip poker, and it turns out she just wanted to do the laundry? What do you do? when that situation happens. Nick.
She just wanted to do the laundry and she used this strategy. What is your role? I don't know. I don't know, I'm not even married. George, you want to try that one?
Well, I'm I'm stumped again. Randy? I'm a wuss. I just poker player. You know what you do, you fold.
Yeah, that's what a poker player would do. Very nice. Yeah. And speaking of challenges, why should you never challenge? A German sausage maker to a competition.
Why should you never challenge a German sausage maker? This is the easiest of the bunch. I'm really thinking you can get this one, Nick. I feel like you said this one before, and it's on the tip of my tongue. Oh, yeah.
I didn't use it this way, but it it's a similar joke. But it's always fun.
So, why should you? I bet, George, you got this one. Why should you never challenge a German sausage maker to a competition? I can't help it. Couldn't have no It brings out the worst in them.
Very good. Very good. Very good. Good stuff. All right, so you guys now, you can't answer this last one because this is for listeners to call it in win at 866-348-7884-866-34 Truth and tell us.
What was Abraham's biggest Challenge. What was Abraham's biggest challenge? And it may have seemed Ba Yeah. What? Oh.
866-348-7884. What was Abraham's biggest challenge? And it seemed bad. Nick, if they can guess that, tell them what they'll win. Absolutely, Robbie.
Yes, you'll be winning a prize from Arcanine Pursuits Prize Vault. If you know the answer to Robbie's riddles, give us a call at 866-348-788-4-866-342. We got prizes just spilling out. They're spilling. They are.
We. We have the ever-famous King of Retreats. Back scratcher with you know gospel beads to help share the gospel, you need that at a truck stop. You know, the gospel backscratcher. Or what is it called?
Narcan? Yep, Narcan. Narcan.
So if, you know, we had a race for Christ ministries come on. They gave us some Narcan if you happen to be around some people who might have overdosed, right? Nothing like having that available. We have, oh, we have wonderful books like Prisoner of Hope, Captured by Grace, and other amazing books from all the authors that we've had on the show over the years.
So you call us 866-348-7884. What was Abraham's biggest challenge? And it really seemed bad. As that joke is. Yeah.
So Moving back to um George and Tony and So I am, man, I just, I love what you guys do and the courage, right? of going to those different trucks as they're sitting there and and offering this opportunity.
So have you guys got a story about somebody that wandered in and maybe received Christ or something cool? Um We sometimes People come in. And you could tell right away. They they want to get saved. Really?
And and and they're just hungry for everything you say. you know And Sometimes we'll have people f uh from church from the north, like uh Methodist Church or Catholic Church. And they believe in Christ. but they never made a public commitment for Christ.
So I'll just say this in this prayer with them and tell them, you know, and I'm not saying they weren't saved. But they made a public confession with something and they made it, you know Covenant with them. You know. You know, people need Jesus. And but I emphasize the Lordship of Jesus, you know.
It's easy to say the sinner's prayer. But to follow Christ and be Lord. And we give 'em usually we give 'em scripture every uh Bible every time uh They come to the Lord. What survivals do we give them? You know what I mean?
I have a ministry Tony to I guess you could call it a nursing home ministry. I do it. Just God made the door open for me and I get to do it. And usually What I actually do is I have a whole bunch of jokes, you might imagine. that I open with and I they're on sheets of paper so I'm known as the man with the papers 'cause I have these sheets of jokes but You know, I'm I'm sharing to people a diverse faith systems, just like you guys do.
And it's amazing to me. I've been doing this, I guess, 25 years, a long time. and um on two different nursing homes that I get a chance to do it with. one's connected to my chur or right by my church. And People of the Catholic Faith struggle, or I've noticed several of them struggle, and I don't even mean to tell them about their struggle, but they they essentially, at some point in time, want to talk about purgatory or they want to talk about their struggle with salvation.
that they're not sure that they're saved. Right? And in that, not saying that I don't, I know some unbelievably wonderful Catholic believers that know that Jesus is the reason that they're in heaven, that they will be in heaven and they're saved by grace alone and faith alone. I understand that, but what I'm saying is, it's amazing to me. to how How those folks struggle and how easy it is to use, like Romans, you know, to say, hey, you know, if you believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, that they raised him from the dead, you know, and it's so simple that you will be saved, right?
And like you say, confess with your mouth and believe in your heart that Jesus. is Lord and same kind of thing, right? Again, I will emphasize the Lordship that if you love Jesus, you obey him. John 14. Right.
Yeah, I know. It is the point of we've got to follow through. And when I do with the trucker, he'll give me his name and address. and I'll take a zip code and I'll go on the computer in all churches and say this zip code. And several usually come up, and I'll call a church and get one that's re very receptive to us, 'cause we can't follow through, 'cause they're gone the next day.
Right. you know But it's cool that you that's really that's really an awesome thing, George. That really, really is. And so getting back to our The story with Ramona Um I mean, it sounds like you are really in a difficult, difficult situation with your husband having. Uh Kidnapped your children, left them abused and in a hospital and all that kind of stuff.
How did God put it on your heart to write a book about all that? It was definitely God because I had no interest in writing a book and really I also had yep. permission from my children who are now adults. Because It's their story also. Sure.
my son at first said absolutely not. I don't want you to. And after We had dinner together and I talked to him more about it, that people's lives would be changed as a result of this. He said, Okay, mom, write the book. And I wrote the book to show that people can survive.
really horrible circumstances. and that God will see you through. and brings you the other side. My children were very broken when we got them back. Yeah.
Um So we were dealing with these broken children. And I even had a psychiatrist tell me there's no way you can raise him. You don't have the tools to raise your children. from this experience because they're both horribly abused. And I looked at the te the team that was there to confront me and I said, You don't know my God And that's exactly what it was.
They didn't know my God.
So it was through the Lord that brought my children out of that and now I'm the grandmother of six No. And um And both my children are very strong in the Lord. They have very strong relationships with the Lord. and our family is whole, probably more whole Then the average family out there. Because Jerry and I had to work so hard to bring them into fullness.
And Jerry, by the way, is my husband. I gathered, yeah.
So. I love that idea of captured by grace. I want to explore that, explore more about Faith Road ministry in Whitsitt, North Carolina. Maybe you. have a chance to help out there or know more about it.
We're gonna Go to that shortly, but we're still waiting on somebody to call to tell us what was Abraham's biggest challenge. It seemed bad. All you got to do is call. Call 866-348-7884. You're listening to the Truth Network and TruthNetwork.com.
Welcome back to Kingdom Pursuits, where we hear how God takes your passion. And uses it to build the kingdom. We are so blessed to have with us today George Palmer and Tony Pershala with the Faith Road Ministry there. It's a chapel for truckers in Whitsit, North Carolina, and Ramona Tuma, who is the author of Prisoner of Hope Captured by Grace. And you can find out about more about both of these at kingdompursuits.com.
I have them both there today. And you can order Ramona's book right there. Get it for yourself. And I'm sure that. Like she said, it's going to change a lot of lives.
Or maybe there's somebody you want to give the book to based on you know their story as they've got similar challenges.
So we got. Another Ramona on the line. We got Ramona Tim, who has the answer to our. Riddle.
So Ramona Tim. What would bring Abraham's biggest challenge? Yeah, you told her. I was like, oh, my husband, I wasn't going to call. But you know what?
When nobody called, I said good night. I know the answer.
So it was Abraham's biggest challenge. Because He was told Guy. told him to go to Mount Moriah. And sacrifice yourself. Done.
His only son. On an altar that he would take the wood and take the fire and everything And I just must add very quickly, it's That story is very special to me because I learned, of course, years ago the significance of Mount Moriah. and that uh threshing floor Um where which became a threshing store that King David bought. Yeah, it's the place that's where the temple mound is, right? Yeah.
And I I have to tell you a personal story of mine, Ramona, since you mentioned it. Do you know? I've got to finish my story because I won't.
Okay, go ahead. Go ahead. My husband and I in twenty twelve I believe or 2014, I can't remember. We did a fly-in to Washington DC. with a uh nonpartisan political group.
And I told my husband, We need to go to the Bible Museum. Oh, wow. We need to take this opportunity to go. And it was an amazing Experience, but when we went to the gift. Shop.
and saw this one Gift shop that was all things Israel, I was like, whoa. taken aback. And we looked at some of the things that were in the gift shop, this one little section. And this lady was wearing these beautiful gold earrings. With a spray.
stone in the middle. But the thing that absolutely blew me away. Was it in? Uh encased by a circle of gold and a small precious stone in the middle. was a Stone encased in this these earrings was a stone.
that was the diggings under the temple. from Herod's temple. And I was just so blown away, and my husband said, Those are yours. That's all he said, and I'm wearing them this week. Oh memory of what happened.
And I wear them once in a while, but this week I'm wearing them. the whole week because of October 7. That is That exactly right, 'cause that was this week. And um I got a chance to go under that temple mound. in the Temple of Hezekiah with my wife.
And we also sifted through some of those diggings to find Oh.
Some of those things, you know, God just really. But the thing that I wanted to share, which I won't go into a lot of detail, is my youngest daughter We named Mariah. Oh my word. But at the time we named her that, we had no thought of what we were doing and that Well, number one, I had I had had cancer, and I was not supposed to be able to have any more children. And so it was 10 years actually after my cancer.
that Tammy had this child. And it was like very miraculous to begin with.
So, there was one aspect of the story. Another aspect of the story was that. Other daughter name, who's ten years older than Ryan, is Tess. And so we always used to go to Tweetsy Railroad and the guy up there would always sing, they call the wind Mariah. You know, the rain is Tess, the fire is Joe, and they call the wind Mariah.
And so When we were trying to come up with a name for our youngest daughter, Tess said, Oh, we got to name her Mariah, because then we'll have two of the three names out of the song, right? And so that's what her name was.
Well, I went to. A play at our school not long there after Mariah was born. And I am sitting there knowing how badly we wanted to have this child. And then all of a sudden they said, and they called it Mount Moriah because the Lord will provide. How absolutely beautiful.
Right. Isn't that amazing?
So thank you for your call and remember reminding me of all that That that Mariah really is, and I'm so grateful for you. You're listening to Pig. You have a great time. We're grateful for you too. Thank you.
You too. Yeah. Bye-bye. Bye-bye. So Miss Ramona, who wrote again, The Prisoner of Hope, Captured by Grace.
Um I I I'm still just Like, I have to know how were you captured by Grace?
Well, the subscription process that does refer to is First is Zachariah 9. twelve and it's returned to the stronghold. you prisoner of hope. Even today, I declare that I will restore double to you. And encaptured by grace comes from 1 Timothy 1.16.
I was captured by grace. And all this time of turmoil and heartache and loneliness and um disappointment I still had to go to the stronghold. That I had to return to the hope because I was a prisoner of hope. and he captured me by his grace. He held me fast, to the truth of who he is He captured me.
And to me it's captured. This was the epitome of being bound to God. Being Um Absolutely. tied to him. And that's where that title comes from.
It's I was bound to him. And that if that doesn't wet your appetite, if you just heard the rest of her story through the show today for Like, oh my goodness, you can see that this book is tied to the Scriptures, It's tied to what God did through her testimony, but also, like we talked about, if you've got somebody that's been through like gigantic, unbelievable custody battles and those kind of things, what an opportunity this book would be for you. Prisoners of Hope. Captured by Grace. Getting back to George and Tony.
So. Uh Tony I am still fascinated by the opportunity that you guys have to reach such a community. What were you hoping by coming on the show today? You would help motivate people to help you or get the word out to truckers. What were you hoping?
Uh yeah. Um, in the trucking community, um, You know, like if they're gone you know, two, three weeks at a time, four weeks at a time. you know, j there's not a lot of strong family ties.
So, you know, people need to, you know, pray for truckers. That, you know, they stay with their families. They're the second highest divorce rate in America, second only to the military. Really? Yeah.
I did not know that. Yeah, and like it's not unusual for me to have a trucker come in. I didn't go to church in five ye years or nine years, you know, it It's not unusual for that. And like you said, they were on the It's hard on families, and it's hard, especially over-the-road truckers, right? Yeah, yeah.
'Cause there's a lot of different you know, folks that You know, stay around all the time. But you're right, the people that are long-road, long-haul truckers. And so a lot of times you speak to these guys and you never see them again. You don't know what's. uh whether you had effect or not.
But this talk about children so much this morning has reminded me of a wonderful incident. One time I was there with Tony And this young man came in, I'm going to say he was in the late twenties maybe. and he had come before and receive Christ. And now then this time he came in with his two little daughters, The cutest little girls you ever saw, and they were just smiling and happy. They got to be on the road with daddy.
They had uh pictures that they've drawn of of Christ or other biblical scenes. And uh It it just uh just over flowing of uh with love for everybody. Yeah, well there you go. It's generations that are being changed. And what an opportunity, what a challenge, right, Tony gave us.
Let's be praying for these truckers, praying for this ministry. We'll be right back. With a whole lot more, Kingdom Pursuits, stay tuned. You're listening to the Truth Network and TruthNetwork.com. Welcome back to Kingdom Pursuits.
where we hear how God takes your passion. and uses it to build the kingdom and I am always amazed. Amazed. And how God brings us such amazing people that He is. chosen to um give ministries to and work.
It's it's It's so amazing. It's so exciting to hear your insight. Unfortunately, this isn't the longest segment we have. It's kind of short, and so I just want to make sure you guys both get a chance. to share um something you wanted to make sure you got sh share wanted shared today on the show So Ramona, I'll ask you first.
You know, what was something you thought about when you knew you were going to be on Kingdom Pursuits that you wanted to make sure you got said today to? people thinking about getting your book. That the This is not the end of the story. As a matter of fact, I've written a second book. It's coming out in the fall.
Mm, which is a style called Whisper. whispering hope from darkness to light. And that's my life. We go from darkness to light. And we have to hold on to the fact that you may be in darkness today.
But there's light at the end of this tunnel. And um I've had two strokes and three rounds of cancer. And I've survived all of those, and I'm handicapped from the second stroke But even that is light at that end of the tunnel. There's these two books that are coming out. Results of it.
And uh there is Hope. You know, we are prisoners of hope. When everything looks really dark, We're still Filled with hope. That's so beautiful. Yeah, and so what kinds of of cancer did you struggle with?
I had uh breast cancer uh three times and I had adenocarcinoma. which is uh cancer of the Oh soft tissues of the body. And it was a real battle for uh Out. for a long time. And then but I'm cancer free now.
And the main thing I'm dealing with now is the stokes. I understand. That's a real struggle, too. Yeah. And you know a lot of folks don't realize, but being a cancer sur survivor myself, that you know, the a lot of the medications and stuff they gave you to Help you.
fight off the cancer. It causes all sorts of other complications. with other organs and other other situations that make Um make it a bit of a challenge, but it it's interesting to me How how God um you know, I'm sure you would agree with me that it was the best of times, it was the worst of times, or you could say it was the worst of times, it was the best of times. Like that title is always my thought that God was so close to me during some of those, the worst of those struggles, right? Yeah.
Yes, otherwise we would not have survived. There's no reason to survive. And it's beautiful that that that you know, I don't know if you've ever thought about the different angels but Um You might know there's Michael and there's Gabriel, but there's another one that a lot of people refer to as Raphael, which is mentioned in the Apocrypha.
So God is our healer is Yeah. Jehovah Rapha, right? Yeah, however.
Well, that idea of Rafa, that same root, is how you get Raphael. Like Michael is a is... Is that L on the end of Michael? Or if you got Gabriel, same thing. You hear that L.
In the case of Gabriel or Gabriel. Um Excuse me. All right, Raphael, you see this. pictured like man how cool is that and that when you are experiencing God's healing, his presence is a I mean, like, in his presence is fullness of joy. At his right hand are pleasures forevermore.
Like, Right. And whether he heals us in this life or the next, you know, we are going to be healed, right? It's beautiful.
So. Speaking of that, you guys deal with that every day, right, Tony? It's not just healing guys in this life, but in the next. Yeah. The interesting thing Ah, like George pointed out earlier, it's That Jesus told us to make disciples of all nations.
Oh, yes, he did. And if I put a pitch in for our ministry, you know, if anybody wants to be a chaplain, it's basic one on one evangelism. We invite truckers to the chapel and we either preach or we have a Bible study. And so you don't have to be a rocket scientist to be a chaplain. No, that's true.
You don't And and any guy who loves the Lord could, you know. Share testimony and have a Bible study.
So, how would those people get up with you, Tony, if that's a Excuse me, Antonio. How would people reach you if that's what they wanted to do?
Well, they should go to the chapel.
Okay. Uh and exit 138. Uh and what said.
Okay. And you can see the THRX up from Forty. Oh, easily. You know, is a 40.
So if you're in the Greensboro, Kernersville, Winston-Salem. High point at any of those places, they're not terribly far from Wetsett. And then I realized it was called Witsid, but there's a TA'd truck stop right there where 85 and 40 come together. Yeah. Say, Rob, if I can cut in here, is it permissible for me to give him a phone number?
It's very call who might be interested. Please. Give it your last word. Go for it.
Okay. My number is 336-455. Yeah. 0504. There you go.
And keep calling. Tony and I will be in touch with you fast. Thank you all so much for being with me today. Miss Mona, you are amazing, and I'm so grateful for your healing. We'll be continuing to pray for you guys.
