The Bible promises that God's grace is greater than sin, and that Jesus Christ, the Messiah, would come to provide salvation and redemption for humanity. This is demonstrated through various prophecies and promises in the Old Testament, including the promise of a Savior who would bruise Satan's head, have dominion, and be rejected by men. Jesus fulfilled these promises by coming to earth, being wounded for our transgressions, and providing salvation through his death and resurrection.

Welcome to the Kerwin Baptist Church broadcast today. Our desire is for the Word of God to be spread throughout the world so that all may know Christ. Join us now for a portion of one of our services here at Kerwin Baptist Church, located in Kernersville, North Carolina. All the promises of God in Him REA. You know, last week, We read numbers twenty-three and we established the fact that.

God said this, that I tell the truth. I'm God, I'm not man. Men lie, God doesn't. And he said, I'm not even the son of a man, let alone a man. I'm God.

I am Self-sustaining, self-existent. And he did say this, that if I've said it, I'm going to do it. And he said, if I've spoken it. I'm going to make it good. But I wanted you to see today the New Testament version of this verse in 2 Corinthians chapter 1.

And it makes this simple statement: for all the promises of God in Him, in who? In Christ. are yea. Yay, which means, yes, all the promises of God are good. God keeps his promises.

Numbers exclaims that. 1 Corinthians exclaims that. Notice this. And in him. Amen unto the glory of God.

of God By us. It means this: God makes promises, and He's made promises to us in His Word. And those promises are good. And when you and I believe the promises, claim the promises, God keeps his promises, we then give glory to God for the promises that he has kept. And God gets glory by us.

Everybody understand that? Say amen.

So our whole series, this is week eight on the series on the promises of God. And today, this being the Sunday before Christmas, I want to just spend a little bit of time. Just want, I would almost call this a little bit more teaching than preaching because I just want you to see the Word of God and the promise, since we're dealing with promises, I want you to see what I believe are the greatest promises in the Word of God. Let's pray, and we'll jump right into it today. Lord, I love you.

Thank you for all that you've done. Pray that you would bless us. And God, you've given us a good Building full of people. Lord, some of our folks are away traveling. Keep them safe.

And Lord, I just pray you'd give us a good week, a good candlelight service tonight. A good Christmas this week, that you would bless our people. They've been faithful. and generous this year. Um in their giving to missions, to church and In attendance to meetings and special meetings and regular church services and activities and All kinds of things we've thrown at him this year.

Lord, I think all the way back to Church in the Park that we did. And God, our folks were so faithful and helped and involved and Lord, you've given us another year and we thank you for it. And Lord, If it be your will, you're giving us another year ahead. To serve you. Lord, I pray.

You'd give us wisdom. Bless this church. As, Lord, with your guidance, we map the future of this place. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.

All right, we're going to start in Genesis chapter 3.

Now, I have these verses on the screen, but here's what I'd like for you to do. I want you to turn to Luke chapter 1. I want you to find your place there. We're going to end up there. It'll be a little bit before we get there, but that's where I want you to jump in.

It's not going to be on the screen. I want you to read this with me here in Luke chapter 1 here in just a little bit. First promise that this is really the first mention. About Jesus. And when I say about Jesus, I mean he was involved in the creation of the universe.

But I'm talking about literally the first mention that there would be a Messiah, that there would be a Savior coming who would defeat Satan. We want to start in Genesis chapter 3.

Now, we all know what kind of happened to Genesis chapter 1, 2, and 3. We have creation, we have the first sin, we have all those things. But notice, if you would, Genesis chapter 3, verse 13.

Now, Satan had come in the form of a serpent to Adam and Eve, and Eve had sinned, and Adam partook of that, obviously. And so we know that was the fall of man, that was the introduction of sin. Notice chapter 3, verse 13. And the Lord God said unto the woman, What is it that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, And I did eat.

And the Lord God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed. Above all, cattle. And above every beast of the field, upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days.

Now look at verse 15. And I will put enmity. Between thee, Satan, And the woman and between thy seed And her seed.

So we have the mention. Of literally the lineage of seed here. Notice this: it shall bruise thy head. And thou Shout Bruise, notice this, his. Heal.

This is the first mention. that Jesus would come. Because of sin, because of what had happened. God was going to put enmity. God was going to provide hope through the seed of a woman.

And obviously we know that Jesus was virgin born, the virgin birth of Jesus Christ. And this is the first mention that Jesus would come, that Satan would bruise his heel on the cross, but he wouldn't defeat him. He wouldn't kill him. Jesus would rise again on the third day, but Jesus would bruise his head. Which would mean put him to death.

Are you with me so far? Say amen.

This is the first promise. That the Messiah, the Savior, was coming. What does that mean, preacher? It means this. Listen to me.

With the initiation of sin. There is the introduction of a Savior. As soon as sin entered, The Savior was promised. The first time man produced grief. God promised grace.

With the entrance. Of suffering. There was no suffering. until sin came. But with the entrance of suffering, God Promised.

A solution. You talk about the greatest sign of grace. The grace of God in the Bible. Man did not deserve this. Man chose to sin.

Man caused this. But immediately, God says, I'm going to bring something. I'm going to do something. There is still hope. Yes, sin is going to bruise his.

His heel But my son. The Messiah. is going to conquer Satan once and for all. The promise that grace is greater. than sin.

You know what? God made that promise years ago that sin might bruise Jesus' heel, but Jesus would bruise Satan's head. That is the promise that God's grace is greater than your sin. And I want you to know today that is still the case. That is still the truth.

Promise number two. We're going to go to Numbers chapter 24 and make our little journey here. We have the promise here that Jesus. not only would come, but would have dominion. He would rule.

Notice Numbers 24 verse 17. I shall see him. But not now. Notice, I shall behold him, but not nigh. There shall come a star.

Sound familiar? Out of Jacob. And a scepter shall rise out of Israel and shall smite the corners of Moab and destroy all the children of Sheth. Out of Jacob, the lineage, the line of Jacob, shall come he that shall have dominion. and shall destroy him that remaineth.

of the city. I want to remind you of something today. We are promised. That the Messiah is coming and that he would have dominion. And can I remind you of something today?

It doesn't matter what it looks like to you on the news. It doesn't matter what the newspapers say today. I want to remind you that there was a promise that Jesus is going to rule and reign on this earth, and that's exactly what he's going to do. As we celebrate Christmas, listen, we're not just celebrating a baby. We're celebrating the king of kings.

and the Lord of Lords. And before he ever even came, it was promised that he would have dominion. I want you to notice promise number three. In Isaiah chapter 7, as we continue to journey on, we have the promise that God would come to us. Isaiah chapter 7, verse 14.

Therefore, the Lord Himself shall give you a sign. And here's the sign. Behold, a virgin shall conceive. A virgin shall conceive and bear a son. Listen, the Savior is not a woman.

It doesn't have anything to do because women are less than men or anything of that nature. Obviously, not. It's just that's who Jesus is. That a virgin would conceive and bear a son, notice this, and shall call his name Emmanuel. And what does Emmanuel mean?

God with Us. It was promised. That God was going to come to us. We couldn't get to God. God couldn't look on us.

We're sinners. All the way back to the first promise when Adam and Eve sinned, and now sin entered, and God is a holy God, and He can't look on sin. But now we know that literally Jesus is going to come, born of a virgin, God Himself coming to us because we could not come to Him. And I want to remind you that was promised. And he fulfilled his promise.

Can I go even better than that right now? He's here today. He's here today. Say, what do you mean?

Well, I brought him with me. I have the Holy Spirit living inside of me. That is not just God with us.

Now we have God. In us. Notice If I can, Isaiah chapter 9. Verse 6, same point. Want you to see this.

For unto us a child is born, God will come to us, and unto us a son is given, and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace. Boy, every one of those are a sermon, aren't they? Of the increase of his government and peace, there shall be no end upon the throne of David and upon his kingdom to order it and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts promise will perform this. God will come to Us.

I want you to notice this next promise, the promise that Jesus would come from Bethlehem. No, it's just Christmas season. We're talking about the promises of God, so we have to go here. We might as well talk about it. Notice, if you would, in Micah, the book of Micah, chapter 5.

This is Old Testament. This is promises before Jesus ever came. Notice Micah chapter 5, verse 2. But thou, Bethlehem Ephrata, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee promise, shall he come forth unto me, that is to be ruler in Jerusalem. Who are we talking about here?

Whose goings forth have been from old. Notice this: not to everlasting, but from everlasting. Do you know that Jesus is in the eternal present tense? That means there was never a time that he wasn't there. Look at, listen to me, and there will never be a time that he's not already there.

Everything in the future, he's already there. To us, that's That doesn't make sense to us. But Jesus is from everlasting to everlasting. Jesus would come from Bethlehem. Isn't it amazing that here's Jesus growing up in Nazareth?

Flying under the radar because of traveling. They end up in Bethlehem. and prophecy is fulfilled. I want you to notice in Isaiah chapter 53 we have the promise. Not only that Jesus would come, that he would have dominion, that he would come from Bethlehem and.

We have the promise that Jesus would be rejected. And by the way, he is still being rejected. Can I tell you something worse than that? It could be that even today, Before we leave, he'll be rejected in this room. Sad.

Notice Isaiah 53, verse 1. Who hath believed our report? And to whom is the armor of the Lord revealed? For he shall grow up before him. as a tender plant.

and as a root out of a dry ground. He hath no form nor comeliness. This is describing that it's not that Jesus would be impressive, that people would follow him because of the way he looked or because of the way he acted or because of some superficial thing. Notice this: he hath no form nor comeliness, and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him. He is, not will be, he is.

It's as if it already happened. This is a promise. He is despised. and rejected of men. A man of sorrows and acquainted with grief.

And we hid, as it were, our faces from him. and he was despised. And we esteemed him not. Here is the promise. Listen to me.

Here is God promising before God showed up that God would be rejected. Here is God promising before God showed up here on earth, he was promising that God would be rejected of men here on earth, and he still came. Right. Goodness gracious. a promise that he would be rejected.

And he still is. Listen to me, dear friend. If you're here this morning. You're not saved because you know a lot about the Bible. You're not saved because you come to church.

You're not saved because you're a good person and you've done more good things than bad things. You're not saved because you ever even just visited an altar. You're not saved because you put money in an offering plate or because dad or grandpa or mom or grandma were Christians. You're saved when you put your faith and trust in Jesus Christ. You're saved through a personal relationship with Him.

And if you've never been saved today, don't reject Him again. He was rejected. We were told he would be rejected before he ever came.

Now he's come. Please. Don't reject him now that he has come. I want you to notice this next promise in Isaiah 53, right where we're at. There's the promise that Jesus would be wounded for us.

Not just that he would come and not just that Hey, he's going to be rejected, but he wasn't just rejected. He was wounded for us. Isaiah 53, verse 4: Surely he hath borne our griefs. That was grief we should have borne, but he took it. And carried our sorrows.

Those were sorrows that should only be ours. We're the one that caused it, and yet he took that, he carried it. Yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities. Here is the past talking about the future as if it's in the past.

He was bruised.

Well, what is was? Was is past tense. Here we are in the past talking about the present, and when talking about the present, it's used in past tense language. It's promised. He was wounded for our transgressions.

It was promised that he would be bruised. For my sin. For your sin. He took our punishment. Wouldn't you notice this next promise in verse 5?

Isaiah 53 is just a fantastic passage. Promised that he would be rejected, promised that he would be wounded, but notice this third, promise that he would provide salvation. Look at verse 5. The chastisement. of our peace was upon him.

What it would take. For us to have peace. that we couldn't provide. Was put on him. He took it.

He did it. He made it happen. Notice this. And with his stripes, his being wounded, his being beaten, with his stripes, we are healed. Salvation is peace and healing.

It is peace with God. It is healing from sin. And Jesus provided peace with God and healing from our sin by His stripes. He was wounded for us, and it was promised. Yes, he was rejected.

Yes, he was wounded. But he also brought salvation. I want you to notice this next promise. The promise that Jesus would be honest. And he would be humble.

Now, let me bring you up to speed. You say, well, why is this important, preacher?

Well, I'm going to be honest with you, when I describe everything that the creator of the universe, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, our Messiah would come, it would be one thing if he came and he showed up for us and all these things, but can I tell you something? What if he was just a jerk? A lot of kings are. Hello? A lot of rulers are.

In America, you don't even have to be a king or a ruler. You just got to be famous to be a jerk. Even some famous preachers are jerks. Thank God I'm not famous. Notice this.

Zechariah chapter 9, verse 9. Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion. Shout, O daughter of Jerusalem. Behold, thy king cometh unto thee. Promise, he's coming.

He is just, he's honest. and having salvation. lowly, humble. And writing, and of course, I do this for the sake of the crowd we have here today to not say a word that would be confusing to children. riding upon a donkey.

and upon a colt the foal, of a donkey. Here it is prophesied not just that Jesus would come, not just his triumphal entry into Jerusalem, not just the fact that instead of riding on a king's horse, he would come on a lowly donkey, but this is the prophecy, the promise. That he is just. that he is lowly. Aren't you glad we you and I serve a God like that?

Aren't you glad we serve a God who is not full of pride, but full of humility? Here's a God who has every reason to be proud, who is humble, and he died for us who have every reason to be humble, but we're proud. Man. Let me give you this promise. You say, well, you already said, preacher, that he was going to be wounded, but notice this: the promise that Jesus would suffer.

He wasn't just wounded. Here is a promise that he's going to suffer. Psalm 22. Look at verse 16. For dogs have compassed me.

You see, they're talking about Jesus in Psalms 22. Oh, yeah. For dogs have compassed me. The assembly of the wicked have enclosed me. They pierced.

My hands And my feet. as they did on the cross. I may tell all my bones They broke bones. They look and stare upon me. And when I say, you know, their feet and and the nails and different things.

They part my garments, which we know happened to his garments when he was crucified. They part my garments among them and cast lots. upon my vesture. And understand when I say they did their best to break the body of Jesus, but. They didn't Break him.

They didn't break his bone. Promised that he would suffer. Spitting, shame. Making bets. Toying and making games with our Savior.

Look at Isaiah chapter 50, verse 5. The Lord God hath opened mine ear, and I was not rebellious, neither turned away back. Here is prophecy that Jesus would not turn away. He would not quit. I gave my back to the smiters.

Remember the cat of nine tails. I gave my back to the smiters and my cheeks to them that plucked off the hair. They literally pulled the beard out of Jesus' face. I hid not my face from shame and spitting. For the Lord God will help me, therefore shall I not be confounded.

Therefore have I set my face like a flint. And I know I shall not be ashamed. The promise that Jesus would suffer. Piercing hands and feet. Shame, spitting.

Then we have in Zechariah chapter 12 as we've made our journey through the Old Testament. We have the promise that Jesus would not just come. But that he would die. Zechariah chapter 12, verse 10, look at this. And I will pour.

Upon the house of David, that's the lineage of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications, and they shall look upon me. meaning Jesus whom they have pierced. And they shall mourn for him. Death. as one mourneth for his huh.

Only Sun. And shall be in bitterness for him as one that is in bitterness for his. First born. In that day, Shall there be a great mourning in Jerusalem? As the morning Of that word in the valley of Magiddon.

I'm just joking. Hadadrimond is what it's called. The promise. That Jesus would die. There'd be great mourning.

Hey, you remember Jesus foretold to his disciples, Jesus said, Listen, I'm going to have to die. We're going to look at this in just a minute. But when it did, they mourned. They thought this was over. I thought it's done.

Here, not only had he suffered and been spit on and shamed and beaten and pierced and turned his back to them and they literally ripped the flesh from. You say, Preacher, this isn't Easter. I understand that, but do not think that Jesus came to sing Christmas songs. Jesus came to die. That's why he came.

That's what our trio just sang about. The only way that he is going to give us peace with God and heal us from our sins is if he was the sacrifice for our sins. Zechariah says. He's going to die.

Now I want you to look at Luke chapter 1 where you are today. We have all these promises, all these prophecies. And now in Luke chapter 1, verse 26. It all comes to fruition. I just want to begin.

We could read Luke chapter 1 and 2 and different things. Just going to read these verses. Look at verse 26. And in the sixth month, the angel Gabriel. Was sent from God unto a city of Galilee.

named Nazareth. To a virgin. Oh, we remember that promise. Behold, a virgin shall conceive. To a virgin, espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David.

Uh-oh, there's the house of David. There's the lineage of David. We just read it, we just saw the promise. And the virgin's name was Mary. And the angel came in unto her and said, Hail, thou art highly favored.

The Lord is with the.

Well, we remember that promise, don't we? Blessed art thou among women. And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be. And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary, for thou hast found favor with God. Remember, all the way back when Adam and Eve sinned, that God said, Listen, listen, you old serpent, you old Satan, you're gonna bruise his heel, but he is gonna bruise your head.

Grace. God provided a way. of salvation. Right in the presence of the first sin. What did he say?

Thou hast found favor. with God. And behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb and bring forth a son. Remember the promise of a son, and shalt call his name. Jesus.

He shall be great. Remember that promise. He shall be called the Son of the Highest. We remember that promise. The greatest news that anyone can receive is the news of the free gift of salvation found in Jesus Christ.

It is our desire for you to know him personally. Would you take a moment to hear this to-day? Every man is born with a sin nature. Romans 3:23 says, For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. No matter how hard we try, We're not good enough to obtain God's glory.

or to get to heaven. Because of that sin carries the penalty of death. Romans 6.23 says, For the wages of sin is death. But the gift of God is eternal life for the through Jesus Christ our Lord. The wages of our sin, or the payment of our sin, only equals death and separation from God.

But it's only through God's gift salvation through Jesus Christ that we can accept Him as our Savior. Jesus Christ paid for your sin debt. The Bible says in Romans 5:8, But God commendeth his love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. All you have to do is receive Christ. by faith as your Saviour.

Romans 10.9 says That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. Verse 13 continues, For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. It's as simple as admitting that you're a sinner believing that Jesus is the only way. and calling upon his name. Bible says whosoever that's anyone can call upon the name of the Lord to be saved.

Have you accepted Christ as your personal Savior? There is no greater day than today to take care of this. Would you accept Christ as your Saviour? If you have any questions, please give us a call at 336-993-5192 or visit our website at Crowin Baptist Church. Dot com.
