If you got a smart speaker at home at work, ask it to play the Infinity Sports Network. A busy day in the world of sports and about an hour from now, Luka Doncic and the Los Angeles Lakers. They're going to host Luka's former team, the Dallas Mavericks. There's been a lot of promotions already. There's been a commercial from the Jordan brand basically saying Luka is coming for that ass.
Okay, we'll see what Luka Doncic does in about an hour from now. Also, the NFL, everybody's descended upon Indianapolis, Indiana for the NFL Combine. We got coaches, we got GMs. They're saying, they're saying crazy things. Some are telling lies. Some are being honest. Most are saying nothing. They're not showing their cards. They're not telling the truth. They are not being honest.
I think the closest thing we got to honesty was the clip that we shared right before we went to break. And we'll talk about, you know, a lot of the comments made today. Falcons talking about Kirk Cousins and his future with the team, basically saying he's going to be an expensive backup to Michael Pennington.
Junior. Yeah, sure. We got the Cleveland Browns saying that we're not trading Miles Garrett. Okay. Yeah, sure. So we've had some some crazy things that have been said.
But this one, as I just mentioned prior to the break, this one appears to be the closest thing to a fact that you can get. The Ravens shared a few more words about Justin Tucker, who's been alleged by 16 different women to have behaved inappropriately during massage therapy sessions. I'll leave that up to your interpretation.
What inappropriate is use your imagination or maybe not. Eric DaCosta is the GM of the Baltimore Ravens, and he said that we will decide what the hell happens with Justin Tucker after the NFL does its investigation. Listen to this. The allegations are serious concerning the amount of allegations are serious and concerning. I think we're fortunate that the league is doing an investigation. We'll wait as patiently as we can for as much information as we can. We'll make our decisions based on that. Man, Justin Tucker, they about to kick his ass on out of Baltimore.
Okay. And they're just waiting for the NFL to come out with the information and they're going to get him out of there. Coach John Harbaugh spoke to the media as well, and he said, yeah, we're looking at kickers in the draft.
Look, Justin Tucker will be 36 years old at the end of the year. There's not an NFL team for a guy not worth it. He's a kicker.
Come on now. We saw what lengths an NFL team will go for a quarterback. You can take a look at the Cleveland Browns, the Cleveland Browns, and now it's kicking them in the ass.
Okay. They got the second selection in the draft, but for a kicker, it doesn't matter. And a hall of fame kicker, he ain't worth it. Justin Tucker will be going from the team sooner than later.
You can pretty much bank on that one. Speaking of the other team, another team in the AFC North, let's, let's take a look at those Cleveland Browns because their general manager spoke earlier today. And Andrew Berry, he was asked a few questions, not only about the draft and what happens and what won't happen. He was asked about Miles Garrett. Are you trading Miles Garrett?
This man famously put out an entire post and message before the Super Bowl, before media week started. He's just like, yeah, I don't want to be on the Browns anymore. Y'all are looking for a rebuild.
I'm looking to win championships. It's kind of crazy what the Browns are doing right now. They need a quarterback.
They probably don't. Well, who wants to get rid of Miles Garrett? The answer is probably nobody. And Andrew Berry, he says, yeah, we ain't trading this guy. I don't care what he wants. So Miles, uh, as you guys have all heard me say, he's huge part of our organization.
Um, really good person. He's an awesome player. Um, understand the trade request and everything, but our stance really has not changed. Um, you know, we can't imagine a situation where, um, not having miles as a part of the organization is best for the Browns. Look, he has two years left on his contract. If the Cleveland Browns said, Hey man, we just going to pay you that that can be the only way that I see him sticking around. Now having said that, I don't know, do they draft Cam Ward and he's excited about that?
I don't know. And if you're another NFL team, the reality is what team has given up a couple of first round picks for miles? Is there a team?
I don't know anybody that stands out to me right now. Like is, is Washington going for it? We heard earlier in the day that Washington, they, they got a, they got a player on their, their defensive line. Who's thinking about moving on as well. We don't have to look any further than Jonathan Allen. Like he wants out of Washington.
I don't know. Is there a, is there a player swap? Is there a first rounder that's a part of that? Jonathan Allen will certainly cost less money than having miles Garrett on the team.
There's so much to figure out. Adam Peters, he's the GM of the Washington commanders. He said, yeah, we're allowing Jonathan Allen to seek a trade.
Another disgruntled defensive tackle. Going into last year of his deal and, and, um, wanted to give him and his representation, uh, Blake Bratz, who's a really good agent. Um, they just talked about it and said, wanted to be able to explore opportunities. And so, um, we let them do that and we're, we're staying in contact with them, you know, like every day, just texted with them this morning. And, and, um, you know, really everything's still on the table in terms of whether it's a trade or, or staying here.
Hickey, uh, it's tricky. Like how can you move miles Garrett without giving up a player? The closest thing I do is see them swapping defensive lineman.
Is that realistic? I mean, I guess if the thing I'll say though, if you're the Browns, I think I'd rather have the extra first round pick just because miles Garrett is the top player at his position, right? So like if you're getting a player back, it's not going to be anywhere near for the most part as good as Garrett. So it's like, would you rather have a first round pick? And let's just say for this argument, like we just played Jonathan Allen or drive to first round picks or a first round pick in a second round pick. I think I take the picture. Just all the picks are not Allen.
Yeah. Cause I like at this, I think you can get better value in the draft in the first or second round than you would for a guy in Jonathan Allen. Who's been fine. He's been fine. He's been hurt last year, ripped his chest.
And so I would rather, whether it's him or a player of his elk, I'd rather take the picks over a lesser player that I think can value wise hurt you. So if you're the Browns, you just, Hey, we're used to the toilet. Let's just hit it all the way, right?
I mean, you still got Deshaun Watts on your books for two years, right? At that massive number. So how. Right. No, you're right. And just like how competitive then can you expect to be at least in the next two years, at least this year, maybe the last year you could spread it out.
Right. So it's like that point in drafts, some younger players, the roster starting to get a little bit older anyway. So I think having one or two premiere picks to get some younger talent in will be a smart move for a, you know, maybe if they hit a quicker turnaround, I just think, yeah, if you're the, if you're the Browns, you're trading away your cornerstone piece, the best player in your team by far one of the best players in the league, getting players back, I think hurts the value in a trade. And I think just getting two first round picks a first and second round pick just helps your team in the long haul better than getting a player would the Browns. Well, the Browns are going to suck. This is why miles Garrett wants out. I don't see a scenario of him staying unless they just going to pay him.
That's it like, why, why else? And I don't know, it's miles Garrett going to make a huff. Is he going to puff? Is he going to say, I need to get out of here.
I just, you already did it. The only way that the Browns can only fix this, if they pay him and said, and to Hickey's point, are they going to go as far to pay him? What are they going to pay him? What can they pay him?
Because the Sean Watson is going to get the boot, man. How to Hickey? What are the odds that the NFL has two guys doing massage stuff?
Like what are the odds that this happens? I'm just laughing at the way it was phrased massage stuff. I can't, you want me to get into graphic descriptions that were available in the accusations? No, right? No, no, thank you. I think don't do that. Okay. Right. I think we've all know what that means and probably have read most of what, what that means. I don't, that's, I mean, that's a great question.
I don't know. Every athlete gets massages, right? So it's not just like all only football players in this position, every athlete and every sport is in this position. Why it's two creeps in football and not any other sport. I have no idea, but yeah, it's bad, man. Justice is coming rightfully so.
Oh my God. Well, Justin Tucker will get the boot Deshaun Watson. It looks like he, his career very well might be over and Oh my God. Is that not the worst contract? Hickey, we, we talk about this a lot.
I don't want this to be the top six tomorrow. I think we did a couple of weeks ago and it's gotta be, this is the worst contract in sports history, right? 200 and $230 million for what? That's not even including like what you gave up to get him to sign that.
Oh my God. Right? Like three first round picks, plus a fully guaranteed deal. He sucked every part of the way. Now he's hurt. There's no escaping and nobody wants him. For a pervert.
For a pervert. I mean, it's number one, I think by a long shot. A long shot. Man, what a, how, how do you think he feels? Does he feel bad or he feels like, Oh my God, I can't believe I got away with this hustle. I hate to say it.
He seems like a guy who probably cares more about the latter. He's like, man, I'm making 230. Yeah. I want to play football, but Oh my God, I, I got 230 for doing nothing. Yeah.
I cut my, they had to cut my leg open twice and Oh man. He can just buy an Island and never be seen again. Yeah. He could disappear. He was such a, he was such a good guy, right?
Everything from Clemson all the way to Houston. He's a great guy. He's a great dude. And he seems squeaky clean.
And then we got this and the same thing with Justin Tucker. I'm going to start doing bad stuff in public. Okay.
I don't need nobody telling me, Hey, Jr. Such a nice guy. Look at what he did.
I'm not doing it as freaky stuff, but I mean, damn. Yeah. Justin Tucker is supposed to be a family man, right? A religious man.
And then see how he acts behind the scenes. He's a man, allegedly, he's a man of a, he's a man of the community. And so was the Sean Watson. Remember when he got that big deal from the Texans, he's like crying and Oh my God, everyone, you know, the youth in the area is very happy for him.
He's done a lot there, boys and girls club, like, yeah, right, right. It's not like a guy who had red flags coming out of college to begin with and people are like, okay, well, and not that surprising. This is two guys, like you said, two guys, like you said, were built up and all of a sudden these bombshell reports come out of nowhere.
It's like, Oh, wow. Not so good after all. Yeah. Both of their careers, uh, appear to be over. This just plenty crazy all the while and talking about careers that are not over. No allegations for these guys. Maybe one guy's a liar.
One guy's a pompous ass. Uh, Aaron Rogers and Kirk cousins, a lot of news surrounding them coming out of the, the combine today, at least in the case of Aaron Rogers, we, we got what we knew already. The New York jets, they told us what last week or week and a half ago publicly that they're moving on from Aaron Rogers. Well today, Aaron Glenn, the new head coach of the jets, uh, he addressed them moving on and he addressed some of his players and their social media posts pretty much saying, here we go again, the New York jets restarting. Here we go again.
Aaron Glenn says, I used to play. I understand where my players are coming from, but I'm now the coach. They need to understand me. Listen to this. I understand, um, the reaction of the players, but I will say this, every decision that me and Moosh make is to win and to win now. So I understand it. But again, listen, this is not going to be the last decision I make, right?
That's not good. That's going to upset some people and that's okay. Right. But as men, we talk about it, but make sure we keep it in house that we're going to continue to do. Talk about it like men, man, everybody wants to win. Nobody wants to keep going back to no rookie ass quarterback.
I get it. And we have no idea what the New York jets are going to do at the quarterback position. The New York jets are just, they treat the quarterback position like spinning the bottle. Like I'm gonna close my eyes. I'm gonna spin this around and see where it lands.
Most times it lands them in the toilet. Let's see what happens with the jets. Meanwhile, here in Atlanta, we talked about it earlier in the show, Kirk Cousins is still here and the Falcons plan on keeping this guy on as the highest paid backup quarterback ever.
They got to pay him approximately $30 million this year. It's a backup Michael Pennix Jr. and Terry Fontenot pretty much said that, yeah, he's our backup. And he said he did a good job as a backup last year. Okay. Kirk handled that, um, really well, uh, at the end of the season and, um, and, and, and obviously curbs, uh, he's, he's a really talented player. He's a great man, all those things. So, um, and again, he handled that role well at the end of the season.
All right. Well, we'll see if they keep Kirk Cousins. There's no reason for them to publicly say, we're trying to get rid of the guy. I don't know if the team wants him back. I don't know if his teammates want him back. He pretty much, he told the fib about whether or not he was healthy or not. Maybe he didn't want Michael Pennix Jr. to take his job away fast enough, but Kirk Cousins hasn't necessarily endeared himself to the, uh, the ownership group. He hasn't endeared himself to the fans, maybe his own teammates by saying or lying about his health. Well, maybe this is Kirk Cousins way of getting back at the Falcons for drafting Michael Pennix Jr. I mean, everybody in the NFL, man, you got to look out for yourself before you dare look out for anybody else. Even another squeaky clean guy like, uh, like Kirk Cousins. I hope this is the worst of it from Kirk. I certainly hope so.
I don't expect him to be with the Falcons later this year, but the Falcons are the team that gave him all this money and then decided to draft the QB. So, Hey, you, you get what you ask for. As simple as that. It's the JR sport brief show here with you coast to coast on the infinity sports network 8 5 5 2 1 2 42 27. That's 8 5 5 2 1 2 42 27. The phone lines are open. If you want to give me a holler, we're about 45 minutes away from Luca Dontich trying to embarrass the Dallas Mavericks, his former team at the end of this show, of course, we'll share with you a few things that took place this day in sports history. And we'll check out the phone lines on the other side. And then I want to talk to you about another team playing in the AFC North. They have some decisions to make as well.
At least they don't owe a pervert money. You're locked into the JR sport reshow, the infinity sports network. You're listening to the JR sport brief. It's the JR sport brief show on the infinity sports network. 8 5 5 2 1 2 42 27.
That's 8 5 5 2 1 2 42 27. This little appetizer before Luca Dontich and the Lakers take on the Dallas Mavericks. This game between Cleveland and Orlando.
Oh my God, it sucks. Cleveland leads 92 to 66. The fourth quarter just got underway.
They're only about 15, 20 seconds in. And it's just, I feel like some of the fans in Orlando have already decided to leave. I don't blame them. Who wants to sit in that traffic leaving the Amway Center or whatever the hell they call it now, Kia Center. Not me.
Not at all. I was just there about a month ago. I'm not trying to leave that place. Anyway, we're waiting for that game. Right before we went to break, we talked about, well, we talk about one team in the AFC North that, or two of them that have some decisions to make. One, the Ravens, when it comes down to their kicker, Justin Tucker, I think they're going to give him the boot. And I think they should like, who wants to deal with that type of distraction? They already said that they're going to be looking at kickers in the draft following all of his 16 allegations of being perverted at the massage place.
Okay. Meanwhile, the Browns have some major decisions to make. Do you keep or trade Miles Garrett?
Can you convince him to stay? Are you giving him a contract? You know, what do you do with the number two selection in the draft? And they're not the only teams in the AFC North that have to make some decisions. As it stands right now, the Pittsburgh Steelers, man, they don't have a quarterback.
They don't. Russell Wilson eligible to go where the hell he wants. Justin Fields is eligible to go where the hell he wants. And then you just got a wide receiver in George Pickens who, well, he's expecting a new contract. And is it safe to give it to him given some of his past behavior showing up late to work penalties on the field fighting is saying wild things to the media being a little too honest.
Hey, I got no faith in the offense. Like George Pickens is a wild dude. But before we get to him, let's listen to their GM Omar Khan, who has to, you know, lightly carry the bags for Mike Tomlin. Omar Khan says, yeah, I got to choose between Russell Wilson and Justin Fields. And I'm hoping to get one of them signs sooner than later.
Listen to this. I think ideally, I think, you know, like to, to sign one of the guys that we had last year. But the reality is they're both, they're both free agents. So until we get one of those guys under contract, you know, all options are on the table.
Of course, all options are on the table. We know Justin Fields is going to cost less. Do you want to say he has more of an upside?
Yeah, probably given his age. I think Russell Wilson is going to end up on the Raiders with his old coach Pete Carroll. I mean, if there's one quarterback who will kiss the ring of Tom Brady and be happy about it, it'll be Russell Wilson. Hickey, I could write the speech now.
He's introduced. How could I turn down, you know, playing for the greatest of all time and extending my career? You know, we all want to play later and my health and being back with Pete and we didn't have the best, but we made it good. Now, everything with Russell Wilson is always positive. Even when things are bad, he makes it a positive or at least he tries. He's going to go back and kiss that ass. That's what he's going to do. Oh, no doubt about it. He doesn't know any other way. And he's someone who I don't think likes confrontation, is comfortable in confrontation. So, yeah, he's going to bow down, kiss the feet, kiss the ring, make sure all is well. I love Pete. Never disrespected him. He's my guy. We're going to go, you know, I'm glad we can do this again.
Both new chapters of our lives. I think you nailed it. He has to be the good guy in every scenario. Wait till he shows up in a a black suit with a silver and black tie. He already has it hanging in his closet right now. I know he does.
He's waiting on it for his introductory press conference. I'd be surprised if Russell Wilson was back with the Steelers. I think Justin Fields might be that guy, potentially. And then I told you about the wide receiver, George Pickens. This man is talented.
Now, let's not be confused. Is he one of the better young wide receivers in the game? Yes, he is. Is he, you know, Justin Jefferson? Is he Jamar Chase?
Hell no, he's not. He's someone who can be a pro bowler, but he's also a big old headache. I mean, this past season, and by the way, he turns 24 years old next week.
This guy was fighting in the hedges here in Georgia. Like when he was playing for the Bulldogs, he was getting in fights. His rookie year, 800 yards receiving four touchdowns. Last year, more than 1100 yards receiving to along with five TDs this season for Pittsburgh.
And we know this season went to the toilet at the end. 900 yards to go along with three touchdowns. That comes with the penalties, comes with the fighting, the lateness showing up the work. Mike Tomlin somehow, some way always ends up with a wide receiver who is just pretty nutty to say the least. But Omar Khan, he said today, we want to give this guy a contract extension. What?
I had a really solid exit meeting with with with GP. And I can tell you that he has a desire to be great. He has a desire to be great here.
We have a desire for him to be great and to be great here. We'll see with respect to the contract. You know, we won't discuss that publicly. And, you know, usually those things are addressed at a later date. All right. I don't know if that's going to work out.
I'm just being honest. You start giving that guy what he ain't going to make that thirty five thirty six mil. But you give him 30. Are the problems going to get better or worse?
And the steel is kind of stuck. This is one of those issues when you get to professional sports where you got a I don't want to call him a problem child, but I am. You have someone who has so many issues with just being a professional. Mike Tomlin publicly said that he needs to grow up and mature. The reality is some people never grow up, some people never mature. I don't think we've seen a change in his behavior. He's getting ready to turn 24 next week. That's and I think in a lot of cases, age is an excuse.
Man, you could meet some 14 year olds who are more mature than people who are in their 40s, 50s and 60s. George Pickens hasn't proven to have any changes in his behavior dating back to his time as a Georgia Bulldog. And now they're going to start throwing him approximately, what, 30 mil ish a year. Oh, the Steelers, they may have another crazy wide receiver on their hands. Speaking of money with wide receivers, we talked about this a lot.
And I guess this is the final team in the AFC North. The Cincinnati Bengals are known for being cheap, cheapskates. They got Joe Burrow. They got a Pedro Mar Chase. They tag T Higgins, have to figure out a deal and a contract to get him.
It's not easy to do when you're cheap. Oh, I can't forget Trey Hendrickson, the man who led the NFL in sacks last year with more than 17. They got to pay this guy, Duke Tobin. We know who he works for. Mike Brown owns the whole team, 90 years old. Duke basically said we want to keep T Higgins on a long term deal. And then we want to make Jamar Chase one of the highest paid people not throwing the ball in the entire league. Listen to what Duke Tobin had to say about T Higgins. I think you guys all know what I feel about T Higgins. I think T Higgins is a fantastic football player and I want him on my football team. Whenever I'm in charge of a football team, I want T Higgins. And so I'm going to do what I can to get T Higgins.
Our preference with T Higgins is to do a long term agreement. Always has been. It continues to be and we'll work hard to get that done. You know, we are fortunate. We've got a lot of really good football players, fantastic football players. And we're fortunate to be in a position to where we can fit them all in. We've managed our cap well. We've got low dead money. We want a high payroll and low dead money so the people that are in Cincinnati playing for us can get all the money. That's what we want. Okay. They want them to get all the money. All right. Now, I've never heard the Cincinnati Bengals say anything like that.
And so maybe there's a first time for everything with this situation. But historically they have been a cheap. I can't wait to see which player they don't keep. You got Burrow.
You got to pay Chase. A T Higgins might be the best candidate to go. Maybe Trey Hendrickson is the one to go. Maybe the Cincinnati Bengals say screw defense, even though we already suck on that and might as well go further into the toilet. Decisions, decisions for all of the teams in the AFC North. Let's put this down on the scorecard. Hickey, help me out if I'm forgetting anything here. The Baltimore Ravens have to figure out their kicking situation.
That's one, right? You have the Pittsburgh Steelers who have to figure out their quarterback situation. The Cleveland Browns have to figure out what they do with the number two selection in the draft. And the Cincinnati Bengals have to figure out how the hell they're going to pay three of their most important players. Is that what's going on in a nutshell in the AFC North?
Perfectly summated. Yeah. Giant questions for the most part surrounding each of the four teams, four good teams that are playoff contenders, if not Super Bowl contenders with a giant cloud, if you will, of questions hanging over their head going to this off season.
Biggest, who has the biggest problem? The Browns, right? Yeah, because they need a quarterback. And I would say that just gargantuan contract of Deshaun Watson plus their best player wants out. Yeah, I think the Browns. Although Bengals are not much better. I mean, how much they have, they have to figure out to pay.
Good luck. At least they got the quarterback in. He might be miserable for the next 10 years. We'll see.
That would really suck. I hope that's not the case. I hope he didn't peak. I hope they didn't peak. And I expect them to be back in the playoffs and have success, but sustained success. It'd be a shame if what we saw in the Super Bowl with Joe Burrow is the only time that we see him there.
That'd be, that'd be a shame. But the Browns, you're right. They, they got it the worst, man. Just they got things to figure out. Maybe they'll trade Justin Tucker to the Browns just to, uh, let me, let me just leave this alone.
It's the JR sport re-show here with you on the infinity sports network. The fans would welcome it. Hickey. Remember they welcomed into Sean. They didn't care.
Remember a lot of them. A lot did not care. I think a lot more will care because Justin Tucker stinks even stink at the end.
That's true. We did it some kicks. He was shaky.
He was the shakiest of his career. I'm not sure that, um, as many fans that welcome to Sean Watson open arms because of the stats they were looking at, the highlights they're looking at are going to have the same welcome for Tucker. Well, the Ravens did admit that they didn't find out about the allegations against Justin Tucker until they basically came out of the newspaper, like right before they got the, they got the alert, Hey, this is coming out. You got any thoughts? And you go, what thoughts? And they go, well, you'll know in 10 minutes.
So, uh, what, what a world that we live in and shout outs to technology. Sometimes it's the JR sport re-show here with you on the infinity sports network, eight five five two one two 42 27. We are going to take a break.
We come back. Of course, we'll share with you a few things that took place this day in sports history. You're listening to the JR sport brief. It is the JR sport re-show here with you coast to coast on the infinity sports network. Eight five five two one two 42 27.
That's eight five five two one two 42 27 in a few minutes. I'm going to share with you a few things that took place this day in sports history. I'm still awaiting.
I think a lot of people are waiting. What is going to be the most must see match up must see game in the NBA this season so far. And that is Luca Doncic and the Los Angeles Lakers are taking on his former team of the Dallas Mavericks. That game is scheduled to tip off in about 20 or so minutes from now. And so we'll see what takes place right now. TNT is broadcasting an ass whooping as Cleveland is beating up on Orlando one twenty two to eighty. I mean, there's just a track meet in this game right now.
There's a minute left in the game and they can't get it out of here sooner than later. Hickey and looking at the Los Angeles Lakers warming up, Nico Harrison has been lingering around on the court. He is not hiding. He's not shying away from anything. I just saw a video of Luca, you know, getting shots up on one end of the court. And Nico Harrison is on the other end, you know, still giving away, you know, hellos and slaps and high fives and hugs. So it doesn't appear that he's he's hiding from this decision at all. I mean, again, to go back to right at the end of the day, he made this call because he thought it was the right move for the Mavericks for them to be better and to win a championship right now.
So I mean, I, I, I can't. I was going to try to give him credit, Jarv. Just like, oh, he's out there. He's being seen. He's still still confident, but standing by what he's done. Who like, who are you fooling?
Like I'll say if he drops 40 tonight, Luca, like it won't happen, but I think it's justifiable for the Mavericks to fire him like right now. Oh, well, I think ownership is dumb enough to have had gone along with what he said, which is it's kind of, it's kind of crazy. I mean, the two stupid people, Hickey, two stupid people getting together. They're gonna have a stupid baby.
Okay. I guess that baby's ad in that trade. Well, that's the dumb result.
At least he was taking, he's taking layups and standup jumpers today. I don't know. We'll see him in a month. I guess you talk about decisions. You know, I popped open prize picks. I don't know. They asked me if Luca is going to have more than 31 today. I don't know. Hickey.
I don't know. He's either going to go, he's either going to like blow past that. He's going to get around that range or he's going to have a, a quieter big game. I think he's going to have a big game. The Lakers should get the W that's a tough one. Would you take the over on that? I've gone back and forth actually a lot of all day. Cause my friends have been talking about as well.
I think I would take the under, I think under 31 under 31. I think everyone is assuming, oh, he's going to shoot every shot. Right. I do think being at home where you're not back, like in like in with the Mavs fans and, and what that arena is going to be like in again, about six months, six weeks or so. I think because of that home, the Lakers should win this game pretty easily. I think it's easy for them to take the foot off the gas here, have them coast 25, 10, 10, something like that, where he's a facilitator and just kind of has the game come to him compared to, I think when he goes to Dallas, I think that's when it's like, okay, you're going out there, you're going to hit 50 and you're going to really pour it on them. I think being at home kind of maybe makes it a little bit more of a normal basketball game where you're still going to be in the rhythm of the offense. Yeah.
I found two selections. I agree. When, when he goes to Dallas, he's going to go out for blood and tonight he's just going to try to win the game and still, uh, still move them. And so I got LeBron James with more than five assists. I think that'll happen.
He'll be passing the ball to Luca, however many points he ends up with. And, uh, you know, I'll figure something else out and kind of go from there. Anyway, that's for the future. It's time to take a look at the past. It's time for this day in sports history. You see, back in those days, we had radio and you couldn't see anything and it was primitive and lousy and we liked it on the JR sport brief show.
I wish I was 50 years younger and I'd kick your ass. It is the JR sport show on the infinity sports network. Today is February 25th.
The year is 2025. It's time to take a look at a few things that took place this day in sports history. Let's go back to 1964 because a young man by the name of Cassius Clay, he beats Sonny Liston to win his first world title in the heavyweight division.
Of course. Hey, let's take a listen courtesy of TNT And the signs are now, as we come to the seventh round, that that's just what he might do. And what's happened? Clay has won! Clay has won! Something has happened in Liston's corner.
They're not going on. And Cassius Clay has won after six rounds! And there's the champion, the ex-champion, sitting abundantly in his corner.
A sensation, an all sensation. It's all over at the end of the sixth round and Cassius Clay is the new champion of the world. And so Clay at the time was 22 years old when he became champ. Now only a few days later on March 6th, he officially changed his name to Muhammad Ali after joining the nation of Islam. Cassius Clay, this day, 1964, winning his very first world heavyweight title.
February 25th, 1987. Let's go down to Dallas because SMU, their football program was suspended. Yeah, back in these days, you weren't supposed to pay the players, at least to, not so publicly. You gotta hide it illegally. Well, that's why they got suspended.
I want you to take a listen to this. This is courtesy of Fox 4 Dallas talking about this death penalty that their program received. The sanctions levied against SMU go beyond the one-year death penalty. The NCAA has tacked on another two years to its current probationary period. SMU will be on probation until September 1st of 1990 and the university has been instructed to conduct annual audits of its football players during that entire time. Next year, when the Mustangs are allowed to play football, SMU will be limited to seven games, none of which will be home games and none of which will be televised live. The university has also been prohibited from so much as teaching the fundamentals and techniques of football this season and SMU is limited to using no more than one head football coach and five full-time assistants until August 1st of 1989. Athletic scholarships have been nixed this season and no more than 15 student athletes will be allowed financial aid next year. In its report, the committee on infractions says severe penalties have been levied to make up for the great competitive advantage SMU has gained over the years.
They are meant to serve as an example for other universities that are tempted to follow in SMU's footsteps. Man, it's crazy. It took them almost 40 years to turn things around and they took an expanded playoff for them to get back to that. Damn it. How about that? What a world.
Well, you know what? Let's stick to Dallas because on this day in sports history, we got to go back to 1989. Yeah, February 25th, 1989. Some guy named Jerry Jones purchased the Dallas Cowboys and yeah, we know about the championships that they won. I also know how long it's been since they won their last championship, almost 30 years and it's kind of crazy. All this time, Jerry Jones still thinks he can run the Dallas Cowboys. It was only at the end of this past season, week 18, Jerry Jones was asked if he would give up running the GM duties, give up his GM duties with the Cowboys and Jerry Jones reminded everybody why he bought the team in 1989 on February 25th. This is what Jerry said a couple of weeks ago, a couple of months. Just know I bought the team.
I think the first thing that came out of my mouth, anybody here was at that press conference? Okay. Somebody asked, did you buy this for your kids? And I said, hell no, I bought it for me. I bought it for me and I didn't buy an investment. I bought an occupation and I bought something that I was going to do.
I was 46. I bought something I was going to do for the rest of my life and that's what I'm doing. Well, Jerry Jones is not the smartest guy. Just because you bought the team doesn't mean that you have to run the team. In a lot of cases, most people, some people are smart enough to say, Hey, I bought it.
Let me bring on some experts who know what they're doing. On the football field, Dallas Cowboys haven't had that much success over the past 30 years, not championship success. Off the field? Yes, Jerry Jones bought this team for $130 million. The Dallas Cowboys have a valuation of more than $10 billion.
Most valuable sports franchise and property on earth. Congratulations, Jerry Jones, but your team still sucks. Hey, listen, folks, those are a few things that took place this day in sports history. I hope you bought something today and I hope you have more success or just as much success, but more recent success than Jerry Jones. I want to go ahead and thank everybody for tuning in to the entire show, talking about the Lakers and Luca and the Mavs, taking a look at everything that went down today at the NFL Combine. Can't wait to hear and see what craziness we get tomorrow.
The players start working out on Thursday, and so we got a lot to get into. I want to give a big old thank you. Thank you to Frank Schwab for joining us from Yahoo Sports to talk some NFL. If you've missed a minute of the show, go ahead and hit rewind on the free Odyssey app.
You can find me online everywhere at JR Sport Brief. We'll be back with you tomorrow at 6 p.m. Eastern, 3 Pacific. Of course, tomorrow's Wednesday. It'll be time for a new top six list so you don't want to miss it. Wherever you are, whatever you're doing, please be well, be safe, be awesome, all of the wonderful things. The JR Sport Brief Show here on the Infinity Sports Network is done, but don't go anywhere.
Bart Winkler is coming up next. Thank you so much for listening, and thank you, Hickey.
