It is the JR Sport Brief Show here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. I am coming to you live from Atlanta, Georgia. Thank you to everybody tuned in and locked in all over North America.
This is when the show gets started every weekday at 6 p.m. Eastern, 3 Pacific. I'm being joined by super producer and host Ryan Hickey. Ryan Hickey is in New York City and thank you for tuning in regardless of where you might be.
You could be in Georgia, you could be in New York, you could be in New Orleans. Yeah, everybody is waiting on the Super Bowl. We're getting closer and closer folks.
Shout outs to people on the West Coast, my people tuned in in Alaska and Hawaii enjoying the weather, all them good places. Thank you for being here. We got a busy show.
How about this? We got a Hall of Famer who's going to join us in about 20 minutes. Champ Bailey is going to be here. Former Denver Bronco, former Washington Commander, or at least at that time Redskins. Champ Bailey is going to be here.
Of course, we're going to get the prediction. Of course, I'm going to ask him about the Broncos. I'm in Georgia, he's in Georgia. I'm going to ask him about the Bulldogs. I'm going to ask him about Travis Hunter. Champ Bailey is going to be here in 20 minutes. We got so much more to do.
How about this? Solomon Williams is going to come through and join us. Oh, he always has great musings. Solomon is the best. He's the greatest. And then we're going to have Trevor Lane. He's going to join us later in the show from Lakers Nation. Yeah, Luka Doncic had his introductory press conference today. Let's just say he had plenty of opportunities to take a dump on the Mavericks.
But the Dallas Mavericks, let's be real, with their behavior, with their trade, the Dallas Mavericks have basically been the best of themselves. I hope you're having a better Tuesday. We got a lot to get into. Thank you to everybody listening on the free Odyssey app. Tune in on their local Infinity Sports Network affiliate. If you got Sirius XM, it's very seriously simple. You can just go to channel 375.
And if you got yourself a smart speaker, ask the speaker to play the Infinity Sports Network. We got a lot to get into. We got one break and enchant Billy is going to be here with us. So let me let me just get this the hell up on outdoor a couple of things. You want to call me easy 855-212-4227.
That's 855-212-4227. You can also find me on the internet everywhere at JR Sport Reef. That's the first order of business.
The second order of business is super producer and host here on the Infinity Sports Network, Ryan Hickey. Ryan, how are you? Well, JR, what's going on today? How you doing? I'm I'm good. It's 75 degrees every day this week, bro. I feel good.
Wow. Well, it's like 40 almost degrees here. So it feels like spring to me. When you were here, the weather sucked. You left. We had snow and now it's gorgeous.
It was freezing. I was there. So I'm never going to hold that. I'm never going to forgive Atlanta for that. I'm never going to hold that. I'm never going to forgive Atlanta for that. I'm a pre was not had. I'm not going to forgive you. I'm going to blame you. What? That's the easiest thing to do. You brought that cold crap down here.
I will say the weekend before when I was in Florida, Chile. Oh, boy. Oh, boy is right there on the jinx. I am just trying to blame you for everything. Can I get a little bit of a bone thrown here? But no, I'm great.
I'm good. I'm excited for the show today. This is pretty fun. I'm going to say this is pretty funny. You saw you saw Luca get introduced earlier today to the Los Angeles Lakers. Oh, I did.
Man, it was funny. So on one hand, Luca was introduced to the Los Angeles Lakers and the media in the city. They did it at their practice facility in El Segundo and they used their basketball court, threw up a big step and repeat and boom, there you have it. Anthony Davis was also introduced and spoke to the Dallas Mavericks. I didn't see a massive press conference.
Picky, correct me if I'm wrong. I only saw Anthony Davis talking to a media scrum. Yes, to defend the Mavericks, I guess for a second, they are on the road. So they're going to have a big old press conference when they get back to Dallas? I would hope.
Is Nico going to have a big show and introduce Anthony Davis? I mean, he has to, right? I mean, I don't say save face.
You can't do that. But like, you have to at least be all out on this move. You can't just have that little rinky dink court side press conference today and then have that be all.
You got to roll it all out there, bring some legends back. I don't know if Dirk's going to go in, but like it's today, just the imagery. And thank you for providing some more context to the Dallas Mavericks in their how stupid they look today. Again, it looked like they just put Anthony Davis in a Mavericks sweatshirt and said, here, man, let's talk to three cameras. That's what it looked like to me. And Luca had a whole, you know, they welcomed with open arms like he was a king.
The Lakers, let me tell you, they well, they know how to do showbiz, obviously. And yeah, they made it a very nice presentation today. Good for Luca. Did you see Rob Palenka's jacket, by the way?
Yeah, I wasn't going to mention that, but I think Rob Palenka has been in Los Angeles too long. No, no, no. Nobody's going to call me a fashion plate as I sit here in my my purple Nike hoodie and Nike shorts. Nobody's going to call me a fashion plate. But where did he get that jacket? Was it too small? It was too small. The sleeves were up to his elbows. He couldn't zip up the front. Is he?
He's been in L.A. for too long. Kids are us, right? I think that's where he got it.
That gap one of the gap baby guys will say gap kids, baby gap. Yeah. Yeah.
Yeah. He's too old of a gentleman. Look at me passing on fashion tips, but he's too old of a gentleman. He looks like he's wearing Michael Jackson's jacket except for it's not red from Thriller. That's what it looked like.
And it was in the wash or I guess in the dryer too long and shrunk by two sizes. I saw it, but I didn't see it on social media. Was it trending? I saw a few people talk about it. Yeah.
It's hard not to kind of see him roll up like that. All righty. Interesting. Yeah. Well, at first I was disappointed in the press conference, you know, because it was it was basically what you call a Twinkie Munch.
Everybody is throwing daisies and flowers. Oh, it's so good to be here. And all this opportunity.
I was waiting on somebody to get the brass tacks. I was waiting on somebody to ask Luca about being fat and out of shape. And they don't believe in you.
And this is why you're here. And it took about 30 minutes into the press conference before somebody stood up and said, what do you think about the fact that they don't want you? What do you think about the fact that they called you fat? What about the fact that you're no longer in Dallas? You're in L.A. because they didn't want you.
Somebody finally asked that. And Luca said, come on, man, I'm I'm now motivated. I have the motivation now to prove people wrong.
Listen to Luca. At some point, I knew this was going to happen, but I would say I always take the high road. You know, I had my amazing moments in Dallas with all my teammates, coaches and the most important defense, you know, that always supported me. And it was it was it was an amazing journey. Oh, it was in a minute. You knew eventually it was going to happen. OK, all right. OK, that little something. Nothing lasts forever. I think we all know that. But then Luca, what about all the facts about all the quips about you being out of shape and being fat? What about that?
I may mess up your jar. I just played that one. That was on me. Oh, what about the other one where the motivation? I wouldn't say pressure. It's excitement. It's motivation. You come here, you see all the all the names, all the trophies. It's it's a big motivation to be a part of something this big. And I'm very excited to get to start working and get in the championship.
That's all there is. Well, we know the Los Angeles Lakers and to Rob Palenka's credit, Hickey, he admitted that we got to get a center. I didn't expect them to admit that we may not get a center now or the off season, but he admitted that they still have some work to do. And speaking and speaking of work, Luca Doncic says I am excited to get to work because it is a dream come true to play with LeBron James. Just like a dream come true. You know, I always look up to him. There's so many learn. There's so many things I could learn from him. And I'm just excited, you know, just to learn everything. And now I get to play with him.
So it's an amazing feeling. Yeah, Luca Doncic said LeBron called him right after the trade and just they said they had a short conversation. Lucas said it was a short conversation.
And then at that point, he pretty much told him, yeah, we look forward to having you here and playing. This is what I understand about Luca Doncic being traded to the Los Angeles Lakers. We know who LeBron James is. We know who LeBron is.
He's 40 years old. He's one of the greatest of all time. You could put him right there. I would behind Michael Jordan. I'm not putting him in front of Michael Jordan.
But I'll tell you this. This is Luca Doncic's team now. It said they got a 25 year old guy in Luca Doncic who is going to replace LeBron James. They were able to go from magic and then they stunk.
No disrespect to my guys, Eddie Jones, Nick Van Exel and no disrespect to them. They stunk until they had Kobe. And then they were able to have Shaq. And then after Kobe, they were waiting for the next guy. And then they had to wait for LeBron to sign with the Lakers.
And now they were able to trade for Luca Doncic. It's clear. LeBron James is going to take a little bit of a backseat because LeBron James has a little bit less of a basketball shelf life. That's just common sense. 25 years old, 40 years old.
Who are you hitching your long term wagons to? We notice they talked about how Luca is now going to be working with the Lakers conditioning team and Luca's conditioning team. They talked about how the agent and everybody is going to be working all together. I'm not saying LeBron James is getting pushed out by no means. LeBron James will move and leave as he chooses.
He still holds those cards. But the Lakers are going to be kissing the ass of Luca Doncic. What the Los Angeles Lakers have to hope for is that the ass of Luca Doncic does not turn into a fat one, because that's why the Dallas Mavericks got rid of him. That and maybe complaining to the referees. I think Luca and LeBron will work out, but they got to fill out the rest of the roster.
It's impossible for me to look at this and say, championship contender, championship team. Where the hell are the rest of the guys? That's what they have to figure out. This is Luca's team moving forward. Luca continued on when he initially learned about this deal. He said he was asleep. He said he was shocked.
They had to wake him up and tell him, imagine this. Listen, I mean, everybody was surprised. So you can imagine how surprised I was. I was almost asleep. So when I got a call, I had to check. It was April 1st.
I didn't really believe it at first. And it was a big shock. It was hard moments for me.
It was home. So it was really hard moments for me, especially the first day. But as I said, I get to play in the greatest club in the world. And I'm excited for this new journey. I'd be excited, too, if I was playing with LeBron. This is going to be interesting. I don't know that there is a potential story and touched on it last night. I don't think it'll come true where LeBron James and Steph Curry and Kevin Durant are all playing on the same team. I do not think that's going to come to fruition.
I don't. I want to see success. The Los Angeles Lakers are a Tiffany franchise in the world of sports. The Los Angeles Lakers are the cream of the crop. They are one of the most valuable, most famous sports franchises on earth, especially when it comes to basketball. I'd say for basketball and Chicago Bulls have certainly fallen off. Hickey, a small fact. When I've been to India, you want to know the most famous basketball team out there? Oh, yeah.
Let's hear it. The Chicago Bulls. Makes sense because of the cows. Yeah, they worship they worship the cows. Oh, oh, not because of Michael Jordan.
No, bro. Because the actual animal, the mascot. Because, you know, the cow is sacred in India.
I did not know that. Hickey, I would be riding on the back of those rickshaws and the tuk-tuks and I'd be like, why? Why are there Chicago Bulls stickers in the middle of Bangalore, India? I'm like, why is there a Chicago Bulls sticker here? And I'm like, oh, and it took a cow walking by for me to go, oh, that's why. It's not because they love Michael Jordan or they give a damn about the Bulls. They love, they love the cow. It provides life, Hickey. Interesting. I did not know that. Wow.
Learn something new every day. Every place else, Lakers or Celtics? Probably Lakers. Lakers, Dodgers.
This is like everything in Los Angeles is the center of the world. Luka Doncic is the boss. And there's so many rumors. No, Luka won't necessarily sign an extension right away. Long term extension. Listen, that man is going to maximize his money. He's going to be hanging out on Sunset. He's going to go to the beach. He's going to have a nice home somewhere.
And God bless everybody that's still recovering from all the fires. I think Luka, I think he's going to be happy in L.A. I don't know, just a hunch. I don't know why I have this thought or idea, but I think somewhere between the weather, the lifestyle, the people, the fame, I think he's going to enjoy himself. Maybe he will enjoy himself too much. I think he's going to sign an extension. I don't think he's going to go anywhere. People were saying that Chandler Parsons says he just bought a 15 million dollar house.
I wonder what the hell that looks like. I don't think he's going to leave L.A. And now we got a Los Angeles Laker to watch for the next, I don't know, 10 years. And then we can complain about that Laker. And then I wonder who's next.
Hickey, is Victor Wenbanyama finishing his career in San Antonio or is he bound to be a Laker as well? I mean, unfortunately, right now, doesn't history say he'll be in the gold and yellow, yellow and gold? Yeah, purple, purple, purple. You got to be careful when I say yellow and gold. Wow. You did. You know, one day I said something about the silver and black, black and silver.
They looked at me, Hickey, like, bro. Like, well, give me a break. You're a bunch of losers. It doesn't matter what order you put the colors, OK?
And that's I would not say that to the black hole. I would absolutely. We met them. Come on.
Now we met him in a docile setting. Yeah. One of them is an accountant. What's he going to do? You're going to put the IRS on me? Come on.
Come on. Remember that guy? He gave me his business card, Hickey.
He was an accountant. The gorilla, right? No, not the gorilla. The black dude with the spikes. Well, the gorilla was with him. OK, you got that guy.
There were like three or four of them there. So now all of a sudden you're calling out the black hole for maybe being softer than we think. Again, I'm not going to mess with them. I was on the radio yesterday and I almost called the Cleveland Browns the brown hole. OK, so I'm not afraid to say anything. OK, clearly not.
I'm not afraid to say nothing. Good luck to Luka Doncic in L.A. I can't wait to see what this looks like with him and LeBron. Who the hell they put with them. I have no idea. We know the trade deadline is going to be Thursday afternoon.
And so the world keeps on it's turning. Myles Garrett hasn't been traded. You know, later on in the show, we'll talk about how nobody now wants Jimmy Butler.
That could also be that might be a stretch. Looks like only the Suns want him and that's the only place he wants to go. I hope it doesn't happen. That'd be a great story.
And so we have a lot to get into. I told you Solomon Wilcox is going to join us next hour to talk some NFL. Trevor Lane from Lakers Nation. He'll be here later in the show to talk about Luka and his introductory press conference. But we're going to take a break and we come back. We're going to have a chat with a pro football Hall of Famer, a Georgia Bulldog, a former Bronco.
And now he's just doing amazing things great in the community. We'll talk about the Super Bowl and Travis Hunter. Coming up next is Champ Bailey.
You're locked in. It's the J.R. Sportbrief show coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. You are listening to the J.R. Sportbrief.
It's the J.R. Sportbrief show here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. We know it's Super Bowl week. It's already been crazy in the NBA. It's been crazy in the NFL.
People are asking for trades. But right now we got a Hall of Famer here. He's a Hall of Fame everything. Hall of Fame in Canton, Pro Football Hall of Fame, Georgia, everything. Former Bulldog, Pro Bowl, all of this.
It's Champ Bailey. Champ, how you doing? I am great, J.R. Good to be with you, bro. All the time.
We know Super Bowl week can be crazy. So I certainly appreciate the time. Yes, sir.
You're always doing something positive. We're going to get into that in a bit. Let's just get into the game right away. I know people have been asking. You already saw your answer. You going with the Eagles.
Why? Defense. Defense. You know, I feel like they should have beat them the first time a couple years ago.
Right. I think there was a couple of plays here and there that kind of changed that game. Now it's hard for me to bet against Pat Mahomes.
Hard. But I just feel like they got a shot this year. It's just something about that defense.
A lot of dogs, too. So, you know, that gives me a little a little more reason to root for him. But but at the same time, man, these dudes, they've been playing great ball lately. I can't get away from how dominant they've been on defense. Well, Champ, it's hard to ignore what Saquon Barkley has brought to that scene this year. Yeah. Even if they had an average running back, do you think they'd be able to run that offense with Hertz and the two wide receivers and Brown and Smith the same way without him? No, Saquon.
Average. Well, no. Are you kidding me?
No, he is that team. And I think they know it. And you don't rush for two thousand by accident. Like they got to feed you. And man, he showed out.
I think there's at least one organization that's killing themselves right now. Right. And everybody would love to have this kind of talent. We all knew what he was capable of when he got drafted.
He just was in a bad situation, has a couple bad injuries. The dude is special, man. Special. They would not be anything without him.
Trust me. I love the defense. That complements that run game. But I feel like they had a good run game back then. It the defense is really better now. Hall of Famer Champ Bailey is here with us on the JR Sport Reshow Coast to Coast.
Coast to Coast. I'll say it. You didn't want to say it. It's the New York Giants, OK? Yeah. Saquon even made a joke last night about it. Told James Winston, you need a job.
Oh, yeah. I see the Giants need a QB. I mean, he's making assessments from the Philly locker room about his old team in the same division. I got to give it to him.
That's that's a bold statement coming from him, but I agree with him. We know how great you were in defense. That's why you're in Canton. You had to look at the quarterback. You have to look at the wide receiver.
You have to look at everybody back there. How has the game changed when we got these these quarterbacks that are so mobile? The running backs are like slot wide receivers, the Kamaras, the Saquons.
How is the game different from when you play? I think you mentioned one aspect of the game that's changed a lot, and that's the mobile quarterback. Yeah, we had Michael Vick a little bit here.
A couple other guys I can't even remember because it wasn't a lot of them. But now everybody has to run. If you're not a mobile quarterback, everybody has to run. And I believe that's a testament to the defensive coaches. And you got to think what it takes. If you want a pocket quarterback, you got to be so accurate.
You got to be on time. You got to be able to take a lot of hits in the pocket and stand in there. They just don't survive like they used to because they haven't found another way to beat defenses. Because the defenses have caught up to it. That's why they're always changing the rules for offense, offensive explosion. Yeah, more illegal contact down the field.
So for me, this is all a testament to the great defensive minds out there who made it so hard. And now you got to have a quarterback that's always a run threat. Where it goes from here, I'm not even sure. Maybe they just start running all the time because they can't throw it to the right team. So we'll see. We'll see.
Well, champ, you got my mind moving. You started talking about penalties and defense, and it automatically makes me think about Patrick Mahomes. Yeah. You know, you played in the league.
There's no script. Do we got bad refs? Is it hard to ref these games? Like even Goodell had to answer questions media day. Like, are y'all kidding me? You think I'm rigging these games?
What are your thoughts on that whole conversation? I don't, I don't believe it's happening, but it, it's hard to not buy into it. If you're the average fan, it's hard because you see, you could see how they get calls in certain situations. But I think it all goes back to Mahomes, Kelsey, and that experience that they have, because they're always asking for certain calls, pointing out things before they even happen. Those conversations with refs before plays, after plays, after games, before games, those, those little moments create opportunities because now the ref is thinking about calling the play that you might've talked about three weeks ago or three years ago. So that experience always helps because those relationships are there.
It's just like any business, right? They know Mahomes. They know Kel. They know all these Andy Reid.
I mean, you got to, everybody's a vet on that squad. So that's usually how it works. It happens in basketball. You see it a lot more clear in basketball, right? Oh yeah.
You see it. Hall of Famer. Champ Bailey is here with us.
The JR sport reshow, the infinity sports network coast to coast. You talk about Mahomes. There's so much conversation about already his legacy and people are throwing around.
Oh my God. If he three pizza, is he already better than Brady? What are your thoughts on that conversation?
Where do you lie on that? Well, let the guy finish his career first, but you know, it, I think it's warranted. I think on some level you have to look at him as one of the greatest by what he's done in such a short period of time. I mean, this dude and, and think about how the year he's had this year. And that's what I think people miss a lot about him is you don't have to put up big numbers to win games. Oh, he's, he's a game. He's turned into a game manager.
He don't throw for four or 5,000 yards anymore. He just, he wins games. And if you ask anybody that coaches in football, you were in certain situations, you will have w that's it. And it's all about winning those moments and they're the best at it. So I, I, it's hard to bet against that. And that's why this dude is one of the greatest ever.
And that's why people talk about him that way. Champ, you're one of the greatest ever. We're going to watch this super bowl on Sunday and see if your prediction rings true, but we've also had a lot of news from a lot of teams that ain't playing right now. Oh yeah. The Rams want to get rid of Cooper cup. And then miles Garrett is just like, uh, I'm not trying to go from Cleveland to Canton to win a super bowl. And the Browns are like, we still ain't moving him.
That's just a bunch of bluff. They got to move him, right? I think so. I mean, his value couldn't be any higher. Think about it. He's coming off of, he probably went defensive player of the year. Probably.
I hope my guy, Pat Sertan wins, but this dude is a problem right now and will be for the next three to four years. That's almost guaranteed born injury. What you get after that is just a bonus. He's worth everything you want to throw at the Browns right now. And if I'm the Browns, I'm shopping hell out of them.
I'm shocked because their, their situation is more dire. You need a quarterback. You've had miles Garrett, you need a quarterback.
So what does that look like? You got to get draft picks to give yourself a chance. They're about three or four years away from turning that program around, or at least that franchise around miles. Garrett knows his clock is ticking and I got to give him a lot of credit for sticking up for himself and saying, let me get out of here.
Cause a lot of football players don't do that. Well, champ, you talk about being able to turn a program around. You mentioned Pat Sertan. Let's talk about your old team, the Broncos.
Oh yeah. Who exactly is who expected bone next to do this. And the first year Sean Payton got his guy, they even making a playoff appearance. What are your thoughts on what the Broncos are doing and how they continue to move forward?
Well, they, they, it starts at the top. I mean, you get great leaders in there who know how to run a business and, and run a team. I mean, he put people in the right place. You got Sean Payton, who's a seasoned vet. So now it's all about getting the right quarterback and you can't shy away from what it takes to win championships.
You got to have steadiness at the quarterback position and you don't expect rookies to play that well. The fortune enough for Bo Nix, he came in with a good head coach, good defense, and a lot of good veterans in a classic organization. It set him up for success. And I think for him, it was a blessing in the skies going to Denver because he could have went somewhere else. I guarantee his year wouldn't have been the same.
I know it's hypothetical, but when you surround people with the right groups, they're going to have success. And I think that that's really what it boiled down to. I could venture to say if he was on a Jacksonville jet, well, the Jags or the Jets. Yeah. To name, to name two. Yes.
It's only two, but you know, there's a lot more out there. Champ Bailey is here with us on the JR sport reshow. Someone who people compare and parallel to you when you were playing for the Bulldogs is Travis. So you want to talk about rookies coming in. What are you thinking and how can he told that line between playing defense and offense and not kind of burning out?
You know, I told him personally to try everything, you know, just, you know, you want to let them know I'm open to playing everything if that's what you desire. But it's going to be timing. It's going to be about timing.
What coach does he have you know, how bad they need him at one position over the other? You know, so it's, it's, it's all those things have to align. And if they align perfectly for him, like, like I promise my freshman year at Georgia was because in the way my career played out, it was because of the coach I had. I promise I would have went somewhere else.
I probably wouldn't have done half the stuff I did at Georgia. But that's how it is, man. It's all about timing and can he stay healthy and stay healthy and excel? That's that's all it's about. He will work. I'm not worried about that.
He has that kind of mentality. And that's basically what I encourage them to do. Just focus on what you can control.
Let them know what you desire to do and let the chips fall where they may. Champ Bailey here with us on the JR sport re-show. There's something real important outside of football, but tied into athletics that you're doing. Tell us about positive athletes. Positive athletes.
Well, I joined them this year as a, as their lead athlete and what it is, it's a recognition platform and it's for those 90 something percent of athletes that won't go to the next level. But it's all sports. It's not just a football thing. Mostly what I do is surrounded by the game of football and rightfully so that's what I did and excelled at. But it's sports in general that I care about all these athletes.
What do they do when they don't go to the next level? So what we do is we recognize those with high character, hard workers, great teammates, those that will excel outside of sports and just give them the tools and resources that they need to excel outside of sports. So it's all about supporting that next level, whether you become a athlete at the next level or not. It's, but it's mostly for those that don't. And you know, I'm happy to be a part of it because I'm always trying to figure out ways to give back. And it's only so much I could tell you about what I did on the field. It's like, how do I help you in life?
And this is one of the tools I'm using. And correct me if I'm wrong, this is something that started in Georgia, but this is something that's spreading out all over the country. Yes, yes. We just went national.
So we're all over the country. And you know, how it works is coaches, administrators, athletic directors, anybody that's in these kids orbit parents, they can nominate any kid with high character, hardworking, just a great teammate, great person. Nominate them for awards. They get awards, scholarships, sponsored scholarships, and there's, and the idea is to get them all in one central location so these companies can find them and offer them opportunity.
And we can also provide them with the leadership tools and the resources that they yearn for. So it's, you go to positiveathlete.org, anybody can nominate an athlete at the high school level. And I encourage everybody to do it.
It only takes five minutes. And I think anybody in this room or outside of here can find a few athletes that they would nominate for something like this. And I'm looking forward to seeing how that grows. What doesn't Champ Bailey do? There's a lot I don't do.
Trust me, even with this, I can't do it all. I'm just talking about it, right? We got a great team. We've hired a lot of people across the country. I just want to see where it goes.
Absolutely. Where can people follow you and your work with Positive Athlete? Well, you can follow me at the Champ Bailey on Instagram, uh, the Champ Bailey on, um, Twitter or X or whatever they call it. But, um, but positiveathlete.org. I mean, just, just click on the website and just follow the instructions.
It's very, very easy and very quick. And last question for you, man. Every time I see you, it's been a few years. You always in shape. You now on television.
There's no, there's no hopping back onto the field. No, nothing. No, no, I'm 46. Okay. All right.
Let's shut that down. Right. Okay.
Yeah. Champ, Champ Bailey, the shutdown corner just shut me down on the JR sport reshow. Champ, thank you for the time. Appreciate it.
Always bro. Make sure you go ahead and check out Positive Athlete. It's the JR sport reshow here with you coast to coast on the infinity sports network. You're listening to the JR sport brief. It is the JR sport reshow here with you coast to coast on the infinity sports network. Hey, thank you so much to pro football hall of Famer.
He's a hall of Famer and really everything he's in every hall of fame possible. Thank you to Champ Bailey for joining us in the last break. He's going with the Philadelphia Eagles to win the super bowl. He's looking at that defense. He's looking at Saquon Barkley. He, these is favoring the Eagles.
If you missed the conversation with Champ, go ahead and hit rewind on the free Odyssey app. You want to holler at me? It's simple. 855-212-4227.
That's 855-212-4227. Hickey, we got enough time to dive into our own predictions. What do you, what percentage of people do you think are going with the Eagles? We know they're the underdog in the situation, but what percentage of folks you think are rocking with the green? Like in terms of picking them to win, I would say 40%. 60-40 huh?
I think 60-40. I think that's, I think that's accurate. I think to be accurate. I'm not going to say I'm a little surprised. I mean, Champ is somebody, he played defense.
He was one of the greatest defenders of, of all time. I'll tell you one thing that, that was, and this wasn't surprising at all. And we, we touched upon it last night. Hickey, there was almost nothing of note out of that opening. What do they call it? The Superbowl opening night.
Is that what it is now? You know it. Do you think there was anything of note? I mean, of real significance that just, there was nothing newsworthy out of it.
Like there were blurbs. Okay. Andy Reed and, you know, they talked about the officials and Kelsey's like, I'm not going to quit, but there was nothing of note from both teams.
Nothing. Outside of right, outside of some futures of Andy Reed and Travis Kelsey, I would agree. And I think if you're a fan of the team, like that's what you want. And also, I think that's what kind of the night kind of gives anyway, right?
Cause a lot of these questions aren't serious or thought provoking for the most part. Yeah. And they've been, I mean, and they've been, they've done this. The Kansas city chiefs are trying to win their fourth championship. When in this era, they're trying to pick up their third straight. Philadelphia Eagles were just here two years ago. Jalen Hurts never gives you anything. Saquon Barkley's never given you anything.
And so it was just boring. Hickey, I tell you at one point in time when we were on the air last night and I looked up at the screen at everything going on in the Superdome, I saw Guillermo from what late night show is he from? Jimmy Kimmel.
Yes, yes, yes. The Mexican fellow from Jimmy Kimmel. And he was handed, I don't know. I think it was Jalen Hurts.
I think or Saquon. He might've handed him something, some stupid gag that they probably ran last night or will run tonight on the show. And I'm just like, this is what it's for. Like there's nothing of substance that comes out of opening night.
And there's, I don't even know if I want to say hundreds, there has to be more than a thousand credentialed media that's just there. And we got absolutely nothing. I told you the news was that Kelsey had to reiterate to everybody. I'm not going to retire. I'm not going to quit. I know people think I'm washed up.
I'm not getting a thousand yards, but look at what I do in the playoffs. Kelsey, he tried his best to put the retirement talk to rest. He said he doesn't plan on quitting win or lose after Sunday's game.
Listen to what Travis Kelsey had to say. Where will I be in three years? Oh man.
I don't know. Hopefully still playing football. I love, I love doing this.
I love coming into work every day. And you know, I still, I feel like I still got a lot of good football left in me, but we'll see. We'll see what happens. I, I know I've been setting myself up for other opportunities in my life and that's always been the goal, knowing that football only lasts for so long. You got to find a way to get into another career, into another, you know, profession. And I've been doing that in my off seasons, but for the most part, I plan on being a Kansas city chief and playing football. Man, he's been planning for a celebrity life before he even made it to the NFL. So not a surprise to God bless him. He is turned into one of the greatest tight ends that, that we've ever seen. That's just the fact, whether you want to put him with Gronkowski or Tony Gonzalez, it's he's up there. And so I give him, I give him credit and I don't think he's washed up and I wouldn't be surprised if he had a big game on Sunday.
I would expect him to have more of a big game than a bad one. I know people want to talk about him disappearing in certain aspects, maybe ages is finally catching up to him. Well, damn it.
Age catches up to everybody. Unless you're Tom Brady, while LeBron James and Travis Kelce wasn't the only guy who said, I'm not going anywhere. We heard from Andy Reid today. Andy Reid said, yeah, I'm 66.
Yeah. I like to eat, but yeah, I like to win. I'll be back next year.
I enjoyed teaching. So I don't get caught up too much on all the stats and all that, all the records and all that stuff. But I enjoy being around the guys. I enjoy football, the game. You can't put in the hours that we do and not enjoy it. So I really, I love the game.
Yes. I'll be back. I'm glad he's going to have me back.
Man. He is a, I don't want to say this is a tough thing to be, but he is a likable NFL coach. I don't know if it's because he looks like Santa Claus. I don't know if it's because he's mild mannered when he talks to the media. He doesn't come across as a jerk. Even at times when he, you know, he's asked the tough questions or he needs to be Kurt or short with the media.
It never comes across as, as disrespectful. It's just, you know, he's in the same space of, of Pete Carroll. Like he's not abrasive, but if you listen to his players and you listen to people who have played for Andy Reed, everybody will tell you like, he's a hard ass. Like he's going to get after you, but he just comes across publicly as, as so likable hickey is my, like, if I got to think about a first year coach, who's no longer a coach, Antonio Pierce, who was a player, he had his one year and everything just seemed like it was, it was grading every conversation publicly was like he was running a cheese grater across your face. And it's like talking or listening to Andy Reed.
He's offering you cookies. I think it definitely is made easier when you have Patrick Mahomes and also, you know, a what 20 year run of 25 year run of success. Like, I think it's easier kind of, I don't say let your hair down, but like, yeah, why be mean, you know, like, why, like you said, be bristly or be Kurt when you can just say, look, I got a great quarterback.
I got a great life, got a great career. What's that'd be upset about? But I would venture to say, and yeah, everybody changes over time. Years ago, even with the Eagles, I just, I never remember him being a complete jerk to anybody.
And may, of course, maybe somebody can pull up a clip and we can look at it. But even back when he was in Philadelphia, it was just, he's always brusque and to the point, and I don't know that you don't have to be a jerk when you talk to the media or when you try to communicate your point, because everybody has a message that they're trying to get out. And especially during Super Bowl week and through the course of a season, it is beyond stressful. Like, I don't even want to know what, what does Andy Reid's sleep patterns look like?
I don't know. I don't want to think about it, but the fact is how he carries himself, I guess you can certainly mellow out after success. He's one of the greatest coaches of all time.
And I think one of those reasons is just how he communicates. 8-5-5, 2-1-2, 42-27. Ben from Maryland is here. Ben, go quick.
What's up, JR? Thanks for taking my call. Sure. Sure.
Go quick. Yeah. So I was just talking about why I think that most people, I mean, I don't know about that, but the Chiefs are just the team that is more likable in this sense. And you were saying about Andy Reid is so likable. So is the whole team. And the Eagles team is so unlikable. Jalen Hurst can be a big jerk. So could the rest of the team. AJ Brown sitting around the sideline reading books, that is not good teamwork. The Chiefs, no matter what comes in their way, they're always there to make the wins.
And we've been saying all season, everything has been blocking them and they've always just been coming out on top. Okay. All right. Well, thank you, Ben, for calling from Maryland. Hickey, that's the first time I heard somebody say any of that.
Am I bugging? Because most people that we talk to, most people that have called up here, they can't stand the Chiefs. They're sick of them. I think the entire show Monday after they beat the Bills was about how the Chiefs are so unlikable and they hate them and they get all the calls. Yeah. I don't, I don't, I don't know. Maybe Ben has a more positive friend group, but Ben, he says the Eagles are unlikable. I don't, I don't know about that one.
They don't, they don't seem to say anything. We'll talk more about that on the other side. We got Solomon Wilcox coming up next hour. And then how about this? Speaking of, of quarterbacks, not likable. I don't think Kirk Cousins is making friends here in Atlanta. I'll explain.
