It is the JR Sport Brief Show here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. I'm coming to you live from Atlanta, Georgia. Thank you to our Super Producer and host Ryan Hickey in New York City. And thank you to you for listening. I hope you are having a tremendous Wednesday. I hope your Wednesday is full of humps. I hope you're getting over the hump. I'll help you get over the hump. I'll be here for two more hours.
Time flies when you're having fun. I just sat down in my fancy new studio chair. My back feels, well, it still hurts. Yeah, if you know how to fix a back, call me 855-212-4227.
I need a good... Hickey, what's a back person call? They call them spinal doctors. What do them people call? Yeah. They rob you.
They make you come back every week and take your money. Oh, man. Why the radio making me and you sound stupid right now? Oh, my goodness. Oh, them spine people. Oh, people are laughing at us right now.
Oh, they're calling us idiots. Oh, my God. Oh, what are those? Orthopedist? No, that's for bone doctor.
Oh, man. Somebody told me to go there the other day. I'm like, I'm not doing that.
They're just going to take my money. Physiatrist? I didn't want to Google it, but I'm going to do it. They do the alignments and things. They got a name. What are them spine people call? What are the spine people? Oh, my God.
What are they called? Oh, this is bad. People are still yelling at us. Oh, oh, oh, oh, okay. I got it. I got it.
What is it? Chiropractors. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. That's who we're looking for. You want to know why?
I didn't think because they're not doctors. Yikes. Oh, you have to go there, huh? What? What? What? What? What? You have to go see one.
And you know what? If I was a chiropractor in the Atlanta area and I'm listening, I'm not taking you know, I'm actually taking your business to make sure that injury is worse when you leave. You're going to readjust my back in the wrong way in the wrong way.
Yeah, I can think about from the studio. I could think about four or five chiropractors that I got to walk by every day. A damn shout outs to the chiropractors out there. The good ones, not the ones who destroy your back, looking for more business the next week. That's like a plumber. He's like, I'll fix your pipe. She comes over, fix the pipes in the boiler room, the bathroom under the sink, whatever the case may be.
She's like, in the back of his head, he's going to say, I'm going to, you know, unintentionally put this piece on. So they have to call me back and then I'll come back next week and I'll charge them some more money. Like we got chiropractors that do that. I don't need that chiropractor.
Don't need them. It's called good business. Hustling the customer, hustling the customer. That's how you hustling the customer, hustling the customer.
That's how you, uh, create worth. Damn. Oh, we're not hustling anybody here.
Impossible, right? No, no. We just keep people coming back because they want to come. Okay.
All right. I'm not selling them anything. Well, nobody, the show is free by this show is free. So you can't scam anyone when it's free. Like I said, for two more hours, we get started 6 PM Eastern three Pacific. You can also hit rewind on the free Odyssey app. If you want to start from the beginning, a Trevor Lawrence is out for the year. Likely he's on injured reserve. Good for him. Good for the Jaguars. Let him heal up.
Let them continue to tank. Talked about the college football playoff. Thank you so much to Dan Walken from USA today for joining us. And so we got a lot to do. And so to not waste any more time, cause I do want to get into Juan Soto and where he might go.
There are rumors that he is pretty much narrowing down his list as to where he's going to continue his career in major league baseball. So we'll get into that. I do want to talk about national signing day because I think it doesn't hold the same significance that it did in the past. And we're going to keep talking about the college football playoff because today is Wednesday.
What the hell does that have to do with anything? Every single Wednesday, I bring you a new top six list. And because we have the conference championship game starting over the weekend on Friday and Saturday, because we have the final rankings and the final seedings of the playoff on Sunday. For today's top six list, I'm going to share and deliver to you the top six contenders for the national title.
These are the teams that I think have the best odds of walking away with the championship. I know they only let 12 teams in 12 teams. Ain't worthy.
Come on, man. For years, we only have four. Now we got 12. I'm supposed to believe 12 teams actually good enough to win.
No, sorry, but I'm going to give you six because that's what I do every Wednesday. So let's not waste any time. It's a new top six list, top six contenders for the college football national championship. It's time to get JR's latest top six list only on the JR sport brief. It is the JR sport show here with you coast to coast on the infinity sports network time for a new top six list, top six contenders for the college football championship. You can only be one. There can only be one, but it's a top six. So I got to start with this number right here.
Number six. Hey, I know we spoke to Dan Walken last hour from USA today. He said this team is not going to win the national championship. He said that this team, their quarterback is not a finished product.
They're not developed enough. And I would happen to agree with him, but I also agree that damn it. Would I be shocked if Alabama just turned it on at the end of the year?
Hell no, I would not. We've seen flashes of Jalen Milro. We've seen this man take over games, two Russian touchdowns, two passing touchdowns, 350 plus yards, a hundred plus yards rushing.
We've seen this guy light it up and I get it. This is a different Alabama team. There is no Nick Saban sitting on his porch with his wife eating her cookies.
This man is sitting on college game day at the desk on Saturdays. He doesn't want to coach. Well, now they got Kalen DeBoer. He went to the national championship last year.
He did not win, but that accounts for something. I get it. It's not the same Alabama team.
They are nine and three. They lost to Vandy. They lost to Tennessee. They lost to the Sooners a couple of weeks ago, 24 to three before they beat Auburn. But it's Alabama.
I mean, damn it. They're here. Probably likely going to be in the playoff because let me say it again. They're Alabama. They did beat Georgia, by the way. Ward Manuel, he said, listen, Alabama, three and one against top 25 teams.
Alabama. Well, Kalen DeBoer, the man who wins everywhere he goes, he's like DJ Khaled. Yesterday he spoke and he says, you know what? We can win it all.
That's what he told the SEC network. I know what that looks like in championship teams. And, you know, we're very capable of that and have that. I also know what it feels like, you know, from a resiliency standpoint and going through a season, especially these guys from, you know, taking it back. And I know January, February through August doesn't matter to anyone else, but knowing what the course is that we've been on. And this is more of a prideful thing for me that the resiliency we've had to come out and, you know, back up who we are and what we stand for each and every week, you know, when it's good. And even when we had the times at different points in the season where we struggled just a little bit.
So I'm, you know, just feel like we have all that makeup of being not just a top 12 team, but a team that could win it all. Okay. As he should. What's he going to say?
We're a bunch of losers. What is he going to say? I need to call my daddy. Nick say, like, what is he going to say?
I'm not going to say any of that. No, I got Alabama here. Number six. I don't think they're winning, but I got them at six. Hey, there's six.
What's the next number? Number five, the top six contenders for the college football championship. And number five, it's Notre Dame. This is a team that's currently ranked fourth in the college football playoff rankings.
They're only lost with 11 victories. It's the Northern Illinois. How sad was that? Right?
Well, not for Northern Illinois. Their coach was crying like a baby. I hope he got a big old bonus for that. Notre Dame, their biggest wins. I know not all that great, right? They beat army. They beat Louisville. Marcus Freeman is getting NFL looks. People are impressed with him. Riley Leonard. Somebody's going to draft that man in the defense for Notre Dame is absolutely amazing.
That's going to keep them alive. But is Riley Leonard going to be able to go out there and help them deliver? Let me tell you, Marcus Freeman, people are saying he needs to go coach the bears. This past Saturday, he was asked when he knew his team could be a damn good one. It wasn't after that Northern Illinois loss. I'll tell you that I've known from the start of training camp that we had the chance to have a special program. But it's a process.
You got to build it. And we had to go through the highest of highs to the lowest of lows in the first two weeks of the season. But they continue to just prepare. And they chose to put the work in and not feel bad about themselves.
And they believed in themselves, too. And so I've known his team has been a really good team. I told you guys earlier that it was one of the most the most talented roster I've had since I've been here. But we had to become a good team, right? Roster talent is one thing we've developed to a good team.
And it's because they're hard work. Oh, yeah, whatever. Picky, why do you say nothing about the loss in a week, too? He won't. He wants to ignore that one, right? Didn't exist. Of course. Bury it. Pretending it never happened. Didn't happen.
Northern Illinois. What? OK, I got them at number five, though. Defense is great.
Offense can well offensive use some work, but I'd rely on the defense. OK, top six contenders for the college football championship. Notre Dame five. What's next?
Number four. Oh, man, you want to talk about forgetting this team. They want to forget this past weekend. This team, they want to act like this weekend did not exist because at number four on my list, I got Ohio State.
I'm sorry. I know they lost to Michigan. I know they looked clueless. I know they put up no damn points. I know they just fell from two to six. I know Ryan Day look like he wanted to cry, like he wanted to put his head down on the table and just boo hoo. They just got so many weapons on Ohio State.
I don't care for it. It's the defense, the offense. They got that young dude, Jeremiah Smith, Ibuka. They got Quinshaun Judkins that they brought over.
Man, they got too many people, too many pieces. I wouldn't be surprised if they just turned things on. I don't know.
Maybe maybe losing to Michigan is going to light a fire under Ohio State. Is it possible? Yes. Yes, it is. Am I counting on it? Is it likely?
I don't know. Ryan Day sound. He sounded miserable over the weekend, like somebody took his dog and kicked it over the bridge like that movie.
I think it was Anchorman. Let's see if Ryan Day. This is from today. Did he have a brighter day?
Did he have a sunny day? He says that even though we just lost to Michigan, I lost again to Michigan. He says our goals are still right in front of us to know that their season isn't over and that the last time they played with each other isn't over and that they still can achieve the goal of winning a national championship certainly is right there. And and, you know, they are I think with every day they're getting more and more excited about that. But again, you don't just wake up and say, OK, on to the next thing.
It just doesn't work that way. But but we're getting there. That's why we're getting on the field today to get moving around and make sure everybody's together on this thing. And and then, you know, that you get to get that first win, you know, in the playoffs, you've got to get that first win.
You know, in the playoffs, you've got to get that first one and then you just continue to build from there and grow. But I know the seniors are going to do a good job leading here the next couple of weeks. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's that a boy.
Yeah. He sounds so much better. I'm happy for him.
Really? He doesn't sound better. Oh, he sounds to me very depressed.
He still sounds. He's not like, you know, you go to the doctor's office is like on a scale of one to ten. How does what's the pain with the happy faces and the sad faces?
Right. On on Saturday, his pain was out of 15. It was off the scale. What was his pain level right there?
I would say an eight out of ten. OK, man, this surgery is still necessary. OK. All right.
All right. Well, let's see how sad he is on on Saturday. Well, not Saturday.
Let's see how sad he is on Sunday. Hey, Ohio State still contenders. I have that number four on the list. Now we're moving up the list.
Now we're moving. I got Ohio State at four. What do we got next?
Number three. Oh, real contenders for the national championship. I got to go to Austin. I got to go to Texas. I got to go to the Longhorns.
I got to go to when you was even though I cannot stand this guy. They finished with a record of eleven and one and not too shabby for a first year in the S.E.C. didn't work out for the other team. Sorry, Oklahoma. And the only loss for Texas came down to Georgia and lost to the Bulldogs. That's it.
The last game when you were so-so versus A&M. And he might be that the reason why they don't get the job done. But I think they also have enough offensive weapons. They got to say a bond.
They got helm at tight end. I think Texas would start especially I think they can get things rolling if they could beat Georgia this go round in the S.E.C. championship game. I think the confidence is going to go through the roof. Now, my own personal feelings.
I've said this made this very clear. I would love to see I would like to see Arch Manning. Is it going to happen?
Probably not. But I'd love to see him. Let's save the day. Sarc, he spoke this week.
He says, you know what? We lost to Georgia. And if we beat them, I think it'll help us. A matter of fact, the time we lost made us better. It was smooth sailing there for a while. And then when you when you get hit in the mouth and you stumble and you fall, you know, as I touched on, we had to get back up.
We had to get back up quickly and we had to go compete again. And I thought that this team did that. Well, we're going to find out on Saturday. Sarc is very familiar with Georgia, Atlanta. Sarc knows what the hell is going on. I would not be surprised. You've got two good teams like this.
If they split. And unfortunately for Georgia. Yeah, Georgia knows how to get to a big game and lose. Let's just put it that way. Thank God.
Sabin and them fell apart the past few years. But anyway, hey, I got Texas number three on my list. Legitimate national championship contenders. Texas at three. What's the next number?
Number two. Yep. I got to go. I got to go with the Bulldogs. I do.
I do. Yeah, they beat Texas 30 to 15 in October. They did lose to Alabama. They lost to Ole Miss. Now Lane Kiffin is running around tweeting about it today.
He's like, yeah, yeah, we being disrespected, whatever. It put us in. And then Georgia also, by the way, it took him a million overtimes to beat Georgia Tech. I was looking at that game. I got sick of it. I was like, ah, these stupid Bulldogs are going to lose.
What are they doing out here? They still have an amazing defense. They still have Kirby smart. And if Carson Beck isn't throwing a damn ball to the other team, the Georgia could do some damage, but they cannot. They can not lose to Texas in the championship game on Saturday. They can't.
Then they're going to be cooked. I don't think there's no turnaround from that. Matter of fact, Kirby smart earlier this week, he says, you know what? Yeah, yeah, we beat Texas. It wasn't the best showing. Watch us be better. They're areas that we have played better in and then areas that we haven't.
And it's almost gone both ways in terms of games. We played better in certain areas than games. We didn't play better in certain areas. Um, you know, we, we, offensively, we didn't run the ball real well against these guys. Uh, we, we, we kind of succeeded off of their mistakes, their turnovers, and we scored points off of their turnovers. Um, but we played well offensively at times since, and we've played well defensively at times, uh, since, but we've also not put a complete game together. And, uh, that's probably what we're trying to do best now is play our best when our best is needed. Then it's crazy. This is why we have so much parody right now in college football.
Like every team has this war. It's like, uh, like being in high school, every there's something wrong with everybody. There's persons too hairy. That person has acne. That person's too short. That person's too small. That person needs glue.
Like there's something wrong with everybody. Welcome to the college football playoff right now, where I got Georgia here at number two. And if they got experience, come on now and Kirby smart has experience. They need to use this game as a launching pad. Hey, go beat them Longhorns and good luck to Carson Beck.
You don't got to worry about Hickey. Does he, I think he drove, what does he drive? Do you see his car? Uh, he got multiple cars, huh?
Oh, he got paid a lot of money to, uh, to come back and stay at Georgia. Man. Some of these guys, I would never, I would never leave college.
This is the best. They're going to have it in life. Well, unfortunately, no matter how bad you want to stay, rules say, you got to go. Oh yeah. Break your leg a couple of times every now and then, but who wants to break legs to stay in college? Nobody.
I was going to say you see Oklahoma state's quarterback today, guy granted an eighth year of eligibility. Oh, I see. I see. I see. I see. I see.
He's coming back to Stillwater next year. Are you trying to go up against a rising? Is that what he's trying?
They trying to have a battle. Trying the first 30 year old quarterback, I guess. Oh my God.
Just stay home and dock the quarterback. That's, that's going to be the name that many years in school. It's the JR sport show here with you coast to coast on the infinity sports network. When we come back on the other side, I'm going to give you number one numero uno.
What is the team most likely to win the national championship? I will tell you that on the other side. You're listening to the JR sport brief. It is the JR sport re-show here with you coast to coast on the infinity sports network. I need you to think O'Reilly auto parts for all of your car care needs.
Get guaranteed low prices and excellent customer service from the professional parts people at O'Reilly auto parts. It is Wednesday. I'm in the process of sharing and giving to you a new top six list. We're going through the top six contenders for the national championship in the college football world. We're heading into championship weekend for the conferences. We're going to head into the final rankings and bracket for the playoff come Sunday. And I'm letting you know the top six teams that I believe have the best chances of winning it all. And I'm about to share with you numero uno. If you missed, you missed the list.
You want the audio, the fancy stuff, hit rewind star from the beginning. But anyway, quick recap and number six, I gave you Alabama. Yeah, I know Nick Saban's not there, but they got killing the board. Now it's still got Jill and Melrose and it's Alabama. I mean, damn it. They're already in a playoff.
A lot of people don't even think they should be here, but they are. I got them at number six and number five. I gave you Notre Dame Marcus Freeman helped turn them around after losing to Northern Illinois. I still can't believe that happened.
Every time I said, I got to go, what did that happen? Yes, yes, it did. Let's see if Riley Leonard can actually help lead them to a victory. Hey, and number four, you want to talk about playoff contenders for a championship championship.
I still got the Ohio state university. Yes. They just lost to Michigan. Yes. Ryan day is miserable. Yes. He still sounds and looks miserable.
Yes. He'd probably be miserable at the end of the playoff, but they have so much talent. Offense defense, Ohio state, but still has a good shot. If anything, the only thing that brings them down is the, uh, the feelings of their coach.
He's pretty down. And number three, you want to talk about a playoff contender, a championship contender, a legitimate one. I give you Texas. I mean, this is your first year in the sec only team that knocked them around.
Well, not even that bad. It was Georgia. It was a Bulldogs. Let's just see if Quinn Ewers can make it through the playoff healthy.
Damn it. Let's see what he does in the conference championship. That's kind of crazy. It's Texas sec championship game, but it, Hey, new world.
This is what it is. And number two, the team that beat them already going to try to beat them again, has won a national championship or two. It's the Georgia Bulldogs.
Well, at least more recently, they still got Kirby smart. If Carson Beck isn't turning the ball over, Hey, maybe, Hey, look, if, uh, ETN can come back, I think they'll have a better chance because Carson Beck won't have to throw a ball to the wrong team. I got Georgia at number two. Now, if we want to take a look at the team that is best equipped, most equipped to win a championship, I give you this number. Number one, it's the ducks. It's Oregon.
How could I not just give it to the ducks? They're the undefeated team 12 and Oh, the closest game. That was that one against Ohio state beat him by one 32 to 31. It's almost hickey. Sorry, but it feels like a waste of time for them to even be playing in the, the big 10 champ. Hickey does still sound, this sounds dirty to say like, why, why these two teams playing against each other in the bigs? I know why the answer is money, but this is stupid. You're telling me that geographical rivalries and history of how these conferences are made for so long, it feels weird that Oregon and a team from central Pennsylvania are battling it out. Yeah.
For a championship game. Yes. This is yes. Very stupid.
Anyway, picky. You give, you give your team a chance. They got a chance, but do you favor them? Uh, no.
Oh no, no, I do not. I think, yeah. Oregon's the best team.
I think they'll show that on Saturday. Um, if Penn state keeps it within 10, I will be very happy. Yeah. And by the way, if you, you haven't been able to tell your Penn state, not on this list, they're currently ranked fourth in the, in the playoff rankings. They are, uh, not on this list. Uh, sorry. They're third still not on the list.
Not helping them at all. Dylan Gabriel, sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. Yeah. Dylan Gabriel, speaking of numbers, this guy's, this is his sixth season.
He's been around. This is, this might be Oregon's year. You want to know why? Cause Washington is not around.
Okay. Killing the boys in Alabama. Michael Pennix Jr. is sitting behind Kirk Cousins waiting to, to play a Roma Dunesy is trying to figure out when he's going to get the football from Caleb Williams or when they'll put together a system to do so. And so Oregon is in a, in a great spot. Couldn't get by Washington last year. They have an opportunity to legitimately win the championship this year.
I mean, in the last game, prior to this stupid big 10 championship game, Hey, they just lit up Washington 49 to 21 at Dan Lanning. People are looking at their head coach and they're saying, Whoa, well, not only can he inspire people as Deion Sanders in the buffaloes, this man, he might also be a coach worthy of the NFL. Now, Hickey says, and great point a while ago, why would this man ever want to leave? The world is his oyster, but listen to him just from last week, hyping up his players.
If he can do this with college students, I think he could get a message across with grown men. I think we talk about the hammer and the anvil. What's that look like? What's the anvil do? That's our defense. They set the wall. They build a clear, clear line in the dirt and they let the opponent know they're not crossing that line.
What's the hammer? That's our offense. That's our special teams attacking them from every direction. Tomorrow we bash heads and I'm not talking about that bull after the whistle.
I'm talking about the BS talk. I'm talking about you go execute in between the whistles every snap. And when you get your opportunity to swing the bat, you swing and you do it for the love of the people in this room, your teammates, because that's the difference.
Think about your prep, all the preparation you've done. You have an opportunity to do something that nobody else in the nation has done. Let's finish this thing the right way.
Damn. He then proceeded to smash a Washington helmet. Man, I don't know if that's going to work in the NFL, but he's had success.
He could go to the league one day if he should choose, unless he falls off the face of the earth with the Ducks, which I don't think will necessarily be the case. You want to talk about teams that have a legitimate chance of winning the championship? At number six, I gave you Alabama. And number five, I gave you Notre Dame. And number four, too much talent on the Ohio State University. And number three, I gave you Texas. At number two, I gave you Georgia.
And number one, I gave you the Ducks of Oregon. We're not going to give that Duck some pants. He don't wear no pants.
Uh, maybe when you win a championship, you get pants. That's a wide waist. What waist size is that duck going to wear? I don't even know. 60?
I don't know if 60 might be too small. Good look. You got any thoughts, anything wrong with my list? I screw up somewhere.
What do you think? Um, I mean, in terms of teams on the list, I think Georgia, too, is very high. Uh, Texas, Texas above them in Ohio State. I bare minimum just because, I mean, I think Texas wins. So let's just say that plays out. Oh boy.
Damn. Georgia then goes on the road in round number one. I don't, I mean, unless I don't think they're winning their road game to be honest with you. I'm giving Georgia to victory. And then even in that case, you're trusting Carson Beck, even this defense, by the way, I know no one is watching. They allowed 21 points to UMass a few weeks ago.
UMass JR. They let them drive for 200 yards. That defense we saw in Austin is no longer the same defense we see today.
To ask them for three straight games to play at a high level and need Carson Beck to not turn the ball over. I believe that Georgia at this point, and I don't know, maybe it's because I'm too close to the situation. I think they played down to the level of competition.
I've seen them over the past few years, pretty much beat everybody, not named Alabama. And so I think these are just lapses of here we are, the game doesn't mean anything. I think that's what it is. So am I concerned?
Yes. I'm not concerned with the amount of points that they're giving up. I understand.
It seems like every year half their damn team goes into the NFL, especially on the defensive side of the ball. They will be fine. I got them beating Texas. Okay. I wouldn't be surprised if Texas won.
I got them with it. So you put Texas above them. Would you put Ohio State in front of them?
Or is the coach too sad? I think I would. I think I would put Ohio State depending.
Yeah, no, I would. I'll say right now, I'll plant my flag. I would put Ohio State above Georgia. Georgia has in terms of talent. You could argue the second, maybe the first most talented team. Their ceiling is as high as anyone. Problem is they rarely get there. Okay.
All right. Well, what was Penn State going to be? Where they at? Well, well, look, I mean, if they lose, I'm not wishing this happened. I want them to be Oregon on Saturday. I'm fully going into the game, wanting them to win. Yes, they lose. And they dropped down to the five seed. Let's say Nelson, you got Arizona State or maybe Iowa State coming into chilly, happy valley. And then you got a second round matchup against Boise State. You feel good.
I would feel pretty confident in Penn State's ability to be in the final four. This is a prime example of needing a little bit of help. Good luck. Good luck. It says, well, it says how much you feel about Penn State that they need so much damn help from other people.
I'm not saying help. I want to beat Oregon and I will be fired up if they beat Oregon. I'm just saying, and you brought up a Dan, there is a huge discrepancy that is noticeable when it comes to, you know, the path for the five seed, let's say, versus the one seed, which right now, if Oregon wins, let's say they get the one, they're facing the winner of Ohio State, Tennessee.
A little bit different than facing Arizona State and Boise State. That's touche, touche. But if you're number one, you're number one for a reason. Go out and beat the best of the best. Even, even if you got to get it out the way sooner than later, just make it happen. That's true. There's no hiding this time of the year.
No running, no hiding. I love the fact that we have so much parity. We don't know who's going to win. I think Arizona, excuse me, now you got to talk about Arizona. I think, I think the Ducks, I think Oregon, they are, they are best and most equipped to win the national championship. Is it a guarantee that they do it?
No, no, it is not. Let's see. And Dylan Gabriel, no more years of school left for this guy. So you got to get it done this year. No more transferring either. So we'll see what happens. 855-212-4227 is the number. That's 855-212-4227.
Phone lines are open if you want to give me a holler. What team do you believe is best equipped to win the national championship? I could tell you about one coach who is not happy because as of right now, his team is on the outside looking in. I'm going to tell you who he is on the other side of the break. And then also, we have some other words. I want to get into national signing day.
We got a lot more to do. It's the JR Sport Brief Show. You're listening to the Infinity Sports Network. You're listening to the JR Sport Brief.
It is the JR Sport Brief Show here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. I just gave you a top six list. We took a look at the legitimate contenders for the national championship of college football.
The phone lines are open if you want to give me a holler. It's 855-212-4227 and number six, I gave you Alabama. At five, I gave you Notre Dame. At four, I gave you the Ohio State University. At number three, I gave you Texas. And number two, I gave you Georgia. Number one, I gave you the Ducks of Oregon. That number again is 855-212-4227. Let me get to your calls.
Let you hear from a few coaches that are not happy. Talk about national signing day. We have so much more to do. Damn it. I'm only going to be here for about one more hour.
Might as well have some fun. Oh, how about this? Richard is calling from Atlanta. You're on the JR Sport Brief Show. What's up, Richard?
My brother from another mother. How are you? How are you?
Doing good. You're not calling to, you know, put me behind bars or nothing, are you? Oh no, I left Henry County. Okay, nice.
Yeah, for anyone not familiar. I left Henry County because of an incident about a year and a half ago. Oh boy. And he's down the road and I left. Okay, I hear you. I was done with it. Okay. Well, how are you and the logic? I'm down at the VA hospital now serving my brothers and sisters in arms. Okay, beautiful.
Shout out to everybody in VA's all across the country. Hey, what's up, Richard? Hey man, I just, first of all, I wanted to tell you, I miss you, man. Um, I miss Shep, but then again, I read, I talked to Shep about a couple months ago when he was on the Bart Weigler show before he got his own show. And he was also shocked and surprised to hear me too. Well, it's good to hear you, Richard.
What's up? Oh, like I said, I told you, man, it looks like the dominant of the SEC. It can be anybody's game.
Yeah, no, absolutely. Looks like we're going to have four SEC teams in it. Uh, and then we, we have one SEC team, SEC team that is likely not going to be in it.
And now the head coach, uh, Lane Kiffin is not too happy. We're going to hear from him, uh, in a second. Hey, Richard, thank you for the time, man. You call me anytime. All right. Well, I'm a definite man now that I got you on RC. Yes, I am. Oh, listen, I'm here.
And like I said, I work now on evening from 3 15 to 11 45. So yeah, I got my own spot and I can talk with you. I love it, man. I love it.
Hey, tell them other people in the hospital to tune into. Okay. Okay.
I will. Yeah. Right. Yeah.
You right around the corner from me. Thank you, Richard. I'll talk to you again soon. Okay.
All right. You take care. And I love you, man.
I love you too. Shout out to Richard for calling from here in Atlanta, Georgia. Yeah.
He listening on the Odyssey app. Yeah. The VA house. I know what that VA hospital. I go by there. Well, I don't go by there. I drive by there all the time. I go by there. If Richard give me a reason, I'll say, what's up to the folks.
Hickey. I should go do something. I'm going to go volunteer at the VA. I'm going to stop by this.
Uh, I got to call Richard back and see what I could do. Go by there, play some games at the VA. That'd be very nice. Offer some words of inspiration. Bring your positivity.
That sounds like a great day for all. No, I'll just go play games. No positivity. That's just not pleasant.
Or no, no, no, no. No. What did he do? What did he do? Back when he was at Ohio state, he visited a children's hospital.
Okay. And he played allegedly, this is all by story. Uh, he played a kid in like Madden or college football, whatever.
Uh, I heard this and he won like 73 to seven. Yeah. No, I don't think the folks at the VA going to be playing Madden with me.
Well, I would have probably agree with that. They got, uh, they're going to beat me in, uh, uh, let's see. It's going to say Jenga.
We're probably not Jenga Jenga. No, I used to, I used to go to the VA with my grandpops. That's why I'm very familiar with the VA and shout out to all our veterans out there. Yeah. I'm going to go. I don't know what they're going to be playing Hickey, but I'm going to play and whatever it is, I'm playing.
I will play it to the best of my abilities. And you know what having said, no, I can go to the hospital. I was going to say, well, they let me in. They'll let me in.
Right. Why would they, why would they turn you away? This is, you know, different era, different times. Are we still in that time of can't come in? Who are you? You know, you want to volunteer and all we can have violence.
Are we still in that time? Where's your badge? Who lets you in here?
Trying to arrest you just for trying to do a good thing. Yeah. Well, I'll figure it out.
I'll find, I know I can get somebody at the VA and maybe Richard, I'll figure it out. Anyway, I talked about someone who was angry. He may be yelling, where's his badge? He wants to get in.
He's been left out. His name is Lane Kiffin. Lane Kiffin spoke today, knowing that Ole Miss is sitting at spot number 13 of the college football playoff.
Miami is 12, but they're likely not going to make it in. Lane Kiffin earlier today, not only were his Twitter fingers working or X fingers, whatever you call them now, uh, he gave his thoughts on the college football playoff rankings. Take a listen to Lane. I think probably to surprise you with this, you know, this is, this press comes about signing day. I understand the question. Um, I've been very vocal, you know, social media wise with some things.
And, um, so, you know, um, just want to keep this press conference and not steal from these players. And, uh, you know, that this is huge day for them. Ooh, Lane Kiffin is like, go check my Twitter. Yeah. He was on Twitter earlier today and he was going ahead and he was quite busy.
Lane Kiffin, not happy with what took place and where Ole Miss is and how the ACC fits in and Hickey. What, where does he find all this time? Well, Chloe, you know, where he found it instead of game planning for Florida, he's tweeting away. Yeah. He, he did so many tweets today. I'm trying to pull the tweet back up. Yeah. He did a lot of tweeting today. Oh my God. Oh, I think it was early this morning. If that helps you got to sort through a lot of it. I had to go through 11 hours of tweets.
Wow. He's talking about the, uh, the committee. You guys actually meet for days and come up with these rankings. Hey, college football playoff people, do you actually watch the quality of players, teams and road environments? We played in one of yours this year. Or just try and make the ACC feel relevant.
By the way, one of your teams paid us not to play again next year. The same number 12 spot you guys had Clemson ranked last week, Clemson ranked last week. How did that go against the SCC rewatch UGA Clemson closely? If you want a reminder of the two conferences spot the ball anywhere, ACC football, remember taking the, he's just an angry person, angry, angry, angry, find something better to do like game plan. Hickey this man beat Georgia.
He thinks he could do whatever he wants. You know, it's also ironic about that. He's taking his anger out on the ACC. The ACC is out of the playoff. Like the team he's targeting, at least Miami, they're out.
The team you should be targeting is Alabama. They're the ones sitting in the last spot. That's what, that to me is what makes no sense. He's just looking at the rankings, bro. That's it. That's all he's looking at. But Miami's out just like him. Do you think he, you think he realized that how many people pick up their phone and just say stupid things?
I mean, like if you're going to fire a gun, at least fired at the right target. This is Lane Kiffin. Take down Alabama. Are you surprised that he wrote this? No, I'm not.
I'm not. And I'm not surprised South Carolina did a whole push as well. Like that's what these SCC teams do, which is just sickening. Mike Gundy doesn't have a damn thing to do with nothing right now. Did he tweet anything stupid? He say something stupid over the past couple of weeks?
No, he just fired his coaches instead. Oh, okay. Yeah.
Which is productive with how bad they were. Not on Twitter, right? Didn't do it on Twitter.
No, he didn't. Man, I'm counting down till he says something dumb again. The off season is coming.
Get used to it. Hey, we heard Lane Kiffin talk about National Signing Day. I'm going to get some more of your calls. I'm going to tell you about the farce that is National Signing Day. I'm going to get some more of your calls. And oh, how about this? You said LeBron James was washed up tonight?
He said, no, I'm not. Well, at least for now. The Lakers might be washed up. More of your calls, more football, more everything. It's the J.R. sport. We show the infinity sports network coast to coast.
