You just getting locked in? You can always listen every minute, every second on the free Odyssey app. You can tune in on your local Infinity Sports Network affiliate. Thank you for listening live on the radio.
If you got Sirius X-image channel 158, and if you got a smart speaker, ask the speaker to play the Infinity Sports Network. We'll be hanging out for three more hours in minutes. We're just going to find out the top 25 teams in the latest edition of the College Football playoff rankings. What's up with these teams in the SEC? What's up with BYU?
Who's falling out? LSU, sorry, had to put that one in there. I love LSU, but they suck right now. Anyway, we'll give you an update on the College Football playoff rankings as they take place minutes from now. If you want to be a part of the show, it's simple.
855-212-4227, that's 855-212-4227. Thank you to Trey Wallace from Outkick for joining us last hour to give us a preview of the College Football playoff, and we've already discussed a lot. The Dallas Cowboys disaster from last night, the New York Jets disaster from earlier today as they fired their general manager Joe Douglas, and there's more for us to get into. You know, we talked about how bad these Cowboys have been. Gotta absolutely show love to the Texans, and Texans actually doing some winning, getting back on track here. Good for the Texans. I want to show love to some rookie quarterbacks in the NFL. We got people saying right now that Bo Nix, he might end up winning Rookie of the Year over Jayden Daniels. I think it's a possibility.
Man, there's so much more to get into. The Cavs and the Celtics tonight. Cleveland Cavaliers undefeated start to the season. The Sixers are a disaster. Got a 2-11 record.
Joel Embiid is just, they got this guy until 2029. Oh my goodness. I can't, I can't believe it.
And we got so much to get into. 855-212-4227. That's 855-212-4227. Greg has been waiting patiently for Michigan. You're on the JR Sportbreeze show. What's up, Greg?
Hey, JR, Mr. Positive. Hey, real quick, the young lady that you had in the first hour that was telling her about your maturity and how you're so great, she forgot one thing. It's obviously, it was fantastic what she said. Your insight and your humor. And when you just know when to make, say something humorous, it's just even makes your show even greater.
I just had to, when I heard her say that stuff, I was just like, yeah, that's spot on. Real quick, the Lions and the Bills, I think, are arguably going to the Super Bowl. But I gotta ask you, the MVP, I know it's a little bit premature, but right now, who would you say would be the MVP? For me, it would be Josh, Jared, Lamar, and then Mahomes. Who do you think, as of right now in this juncture, is the MVP of the NFL right now? Well, I wouldn't even put Patrick Mahomes in that space right now. I think given what we just saw this past Sunday, I would think Josh Allen has probably jumped Lamar Jackson, being the fact that the Buffalo Bills just beat the champs. Lamar Jackson and the Ravens, they took on a team and the Steelers that they could never beat. Josh Allen has continued to improve as a passer. He lost his number one pass catching option in Stephon Diggs, who he went down. And so he's cut down on the turnovers as well.
So I think as it stands today, it would probably be Josh Allen. Oh, JR, I'm glad that you said that. Hey, thanks for taking my call. Please, everybody go for your dreams.
Thank you so much. Thank you, Greg, for calling from Michigan. Yeah, I don't think it could be anything else, right? It's still early. If you asked me last week, I would tell you Lamar Jackson. If they decide to kind of trudge on their head throughout the course of the year, I wouldn't expect anything different in that regard.
Hickey, what are your thoughts? It is early, but they're going to start rounding this out and start really driving home. Who's MVP?
We're going to hear more about it over the next month. You're right. I would still give it to Lamar. I think with what he's done so far in the overall body of work of this season, I think it's been more impressive. They won the head-to-head matchup for however much that matters back a few weeks ago. And I think right now, for me, I'm not going to penalize Lamar for one bad game against the Steelers and raise Josh Allen's stature after one good game against the Chiefs. It is, to me, a season-long award. So I think Lamar had the edge, a giant edge coming in. That lead has shrunk for sure. I think now it's clearly two men raised to Lamar and Josh Allen, but I still think Lamar has a decent cushion based on what he's done. I mean, he's having a career year, J.R., and this guy's won two MVPs already. It's unbelievable. Yeah.
But, you know, these awards tend to be given out as, you know, there's always stories related to it. And so the Buffalo Bills record is going to come into account. They're 9-2 right now. The Ravens have fallen to 7-4. I think the fact that Lamar Jackson has won it two times already, I think that's something that's going to factor in.
I think people or the writers will expect for Lamar Jackson to have a dominant a dominant performance before they just go ahead and hand him over the award. And so I agree with you. Yeah, you got to take a look at the the full body of work for the rest of the year. And it's been quiet for the Buffalo Bills.
I've been saying this for weeks. They were a quiet, you know, eight and this. They were quiet, eight and one. Well, now they are quiet, 9-2, and they just made a lot of noise by knocking off the Kansas City Chiefs. And we know internally, and I would say all things, all intent and purposes, if anybody cares, they're going to have to win a championship. But if they keep on rolling and Josh Allen rolls as well, and let's say they don't lose another game, I wouldn't be surprised if Josh Allen walked away with this MVP. The rest of their schedule, you take a look at the Bills, they got some losses here. They ain't going to, ain't going to win out. The 49ers, as disastrous as they've been, they're next up on December 1st, once the Buffalo Bills finish up on this bye, they then take on the Rams.
I don't care what the Rams are doing. They'll always be somewhat competitive. The Lions and Bills will be a must watch.
That's a toss up game. They have the Patriots, they have the Jets, and they have the Pats again. And so if you look at their schedule, man, they could, they could literally maybe go 13 and four. And I think if that's the case, it's going to be tough to overlook Josh Allen and what he does the rest of the year. And we know that when it comes down to the Ravens, they think they got their issues, especially when it comes to the defense.
And so does that mean Lamar Jackson is going to go out there and try to do too much? Well, the Chargers are next on Monday, the Harbaugh Bowl, that's not going to be easy. The Ravens then have the Eagles, not going to be easy. They have the Giants, it should be easy. The Steelers again, not easy. The Texans, not easy.
And then the Browns. And at that point, they may decide to just rest Lamar Jackson. Who knows what that that final game of the season looks like?
I think things might be leaning in the way of of Josh. But this is why we have more football left. They got about six games to go. And we'll see what happens. And speaking of seeing what happens.
Hey, how about this? We got to there the college football playoff rankings have already started. We had a bunch of unranked teams that have jumped into the top 25. Illinois at 25, UNLV at 24.
Oh, my goodness. Arizona State at 21. Iowa State at 22.
Picky, these are the. I hate to call them loser teams. These are the teams that that they're going to make the top 25 rankings, man, but they ain't getting no higher. They're not sniffing top 12. No, they're definitely not sniffing top 12, but still, I mean, it's a nice reward to have a number by your name like for Arizona State. They're playing really good football right now. It's a nice.
That's a nice accomplishment that you're getting recognized for your good play of late. And by the way, they could still I mean, Arizona State could still go to the cultural playoff. They're going to be 12. They got two losses. They played BYU this week. BYU.
Yeah, but we it'll it'll pretty much be between BYU and also probably Colorado. The Tulane jumps up. I may have to wear my Green Wave shirt next couple of days. Roll Wave. Yeah. Is that do they do? Is that what they say?
I don't I don't know. Yeah, I don't think I don't think they say it's too close to to roll tide. Yeah, I don't think I've ever heard that Army jumps up 19. Yeah, that's good for Notre Dame this weekend.
Army noted aim. Not bad. South Carolina is 18. It's seven and three here. They jump up three spots. See, now we're getting close to the teams that have fallen out of the 12 range. Clemson jumps up three spots.
They're barely beaten pet to move at 17. Yeah. Eight and two record here. Army 19. There we go.
Colorado. They move up one spot. To 16.
And now now we're getting Hickey. Are they are they going to take a break? Is that what they're going to do? They're going to take a break, right? Oh, no doubt about this shows.
Oh my God. You think they're going to know they're actually sorry. They're going to reveal probably two more. They're going to go to 12 and cut it off. Oh.
This is great production right here. They still going. OK, Texas A&M. That's the Maggie's at 15. Wow. Yeah. Well, that's sorry.
That was not the wow for A&M. It's the team after them. What they put. Oh, you're ahead of me.
They had 14 already. Oh, wow. My apologies. I didn't know I was. Oh, wow.
Damn, damn is right. Your BYU has fallen off the face of the planet. BYU. After losing to Kansas, 17 to 13. BYU is now ranked 14th. They have fallen eight spots. And he just told you next up for them, Arizona State and then BYU ends the season against Houston. Wow.
Wow is right now. I think they still, if my math is correct, right? Because Colorado, we already talked about what, 16, right? Yeah, I think BYU at 14.
Well, no, I guess no. This would look at these BYU standings. This is going to put Boise State right now as the fourth seed. Again, so long way to go. But I believe BYU is the highest ranked Big 12 team in these rankings.
Once I'm just egregiously missing so much, I don't think I am. Which means you're going to see Boise State slide up right now to number four. Well, to get that by, right?
To get that by. Yeah. SMU is here at 13. So are they going to take a break or do they already do 12 since you're ahead of me? They just revealed number 12.
I won't ruin it for you, but my assumption would be now that 12 is on the board. It is Boise State. Time out.
We're going to break. Yeah. Boise State at 12 and now they go to commercial. Yeah. Wow. That's huge for the Broncos. Not a long way to go, but genius, genius production here.
Not, doesn't take a rocket scientist to give a good tease. I wonder what sponsors they're going to put in between the break. What the, the four, the four key sponsors for the playoff. What is it?
Typically a candy, a car and somebody, Oh, it's not a break. What are you talking about? I know I was wrong.
Look at that. They're going right into it. They're plowing right through. We're getting the top 12. Hey, Tennessee falls, Tennessee falls a four spots. They were ranked seventh. They are now ranked 11th. The Georgia Bulldogs only jump up a two spots. They're 10th. Wow. I thought Georgia would be a little bit higher than this.
Me too. Ole Miss. They're behind Ole Miss. Oh, you gotta be kidding.
Ole Miss to beat them. Yeah. Touche. Okay. You're right.
Touche. But there's also an argument that Ole Miss has two worse losses than anything Georgia has. I mean, Kentucky has one conference win. It's at Ole Miss.
Ole Miss was in 11 last week and now they're in the nine spot. The hurricanes. Oh my God. Oh man. Hurricanes at number eight.
What a waste of time they are. Okay. One man squad. They need Ray Lewis to come out and help on the defense. Alabama jumps from 10 to seven. That big one of our Mercer really impressed the committee. I see.
Oh my God. What was that? 50, 52 to something? To quote you, JR, who cares?
That was one of those scores. You could have told me anything I would have believed it. You could have told me a hundred to three. I said, oh, it sounds about right.
A lot to a little. And we got Notre Dame at six. And now we're just going to move into, you know, what we expected as common. Ain't going to be too much shifts here in the top five. Indiana sitting at five. What do we have here?
Let's see. Penn State. This is just from, this is, this is it, man.
This is it. There's no new surprises here. Indiana at five. Penn State at four. Texas at three. Ohio State at two. Oregon. The Ducks are going to sit around here again at one. No big surprises, right?
Would you say? I mean, I'm shocked to see how far BYU did fall. I get they've not been playing well in Kansas. I mean, it's a three win team.
I get it. I guess to drop from six to 14, I was surprised at that steep of a drop. That was, that was the surprise. And also, I mean, I'm surprised in terms of the four SEC teams that are eight and two. Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, Ole Miss. I'm a little surprised, like you said, Georgia only moved up two spots. I thought for sure how well they played at home against Tennessee who was number seven. They would get a little bit more love than that and be above a team like Notre Dame percent. I guess to your point, you, you just said it as well with, with Mississippi beating Georgia, you can't shift both of them up. You know, like what, what was going to be different? I guess the tough part is like, now that they're all equal with losses, right?
Don't you have to look at the whole body of work? And I know, I know, what do you mean for Georgia? For the SEC teams? Yeah.
All sitting around eight and two? Yeah. And like, don't you have to look at the whole body? Like, look, not to play the good loss. Georgia's a better team. We know Georgia's a better team. The only reason why Ole Miss is in front of them is because they beat them. You said it.
And is that a good enough reason? I don't think so. Not when you lose at home to Kentucky. And then by the way, the LSU loss looks worse and worse now as they just continue to free fall. Yeah. LSU, we knew that they were, they were not going to exist at all.
Just period. We, we knew that was going to be the case. And then as, as you mentioned, you take a look at, at Ole Miss, lost to Kentucky back in September, lost to LSU about a month ago. I don't know, but this is why, this is why everybody debates. This is why everybody gets angry.
This is why everybody gets mad. But the fact remains that, okay, finally, you know, you, you got Ole Miss that beat a team worth a damn in the SEC and took them forever and Lane Kiffin to go out there and beat Alabama and or Georgia. It happened to be Georgia.
And so I guess he needs to enjoy the, the fruits of his labor. But when you get to brass tacks, if they got to look at them again, I'm going to take Georgia every single time, regardless of how crazy and how bad Carson Beck looks. So no, no big shocks here in the latest college football playoff rankings. The Georgia Bulldogs, unfortunately, I mean, I say, unfortunately, from my own perspective, they don't move up much. Tennessee was seventh and nobody moves or neither of the SEC teams move into that spot. Not that it was to be expected. We're going to talk more about this on the other side of the break.
Nothing moves at the top. If you take a look at the current rankings and who would get a buy, you have Oregon, you have Texas, you have Miami, and then you have Boise state in the fourth spot. It's the JR sport re-show here with you coast to coast on the infinity sports network. We'll talk more about the college football playoff rankings, the latest edition on the other side. You're listening to the JR sport brief. Thank you.
What type of message are you trying to send to me? Huh? Heck is this?
This is going back to Cali LL Cool J. Maybe not the best version. Yeah. I know, I know who the hell and what it is. I know. I know. I know the words to this song. I know. Come on.
You're not vibing with it? I love LL Cool J. I do. Oh, okay. I love LL. Shout outs to LL. How many, how many songs you want me to rattle off right now? Can you give me a top five real fast? Top three, top three.
Let's really make it difficult. Top five. Okay.
What my song? Like ones I like. Yeah. Your favorites. Oh man. I like a bad. That's number one. All right.
This sounds terrible. I like Love You Better by LL Cool J. You know that one?
I don't. Is it a slower song? It is. I think it was, uh, I don't, I forgot. No, there was no woman on that. It was one of those, uh, is yeah. I, you know, LL rapping to the ladies.
I like Around the Way, girl. It's tough. It's tough to go three.
This man has been rapping for like almost 40 years. Hard for me to pick a top three hickey. I'm trying. Okay. That's why I asked the question. You know, it's tough.
It's tough. But bad, bad is, is yeah. I love bad. Oh yeah. I love that. You, you got, you got three favorite LL songs.
Um, I don't know right now if I could name you three LL Cool J songs. Oh, the melon, mama said, say mama said knock you out. Okay. Uh, you know that one, right? Yes. Yeah.
Don't call it a comeback. Okay. Uh, let's see.
Uh, you know bad, right? I'm not sure. See, this is my problem.
I know a lot of songs, but I can't tell you who the artist, so I may know like honestly 10 LL Cool J songs, but I could not tell you that it's his song. Okay. Um, I'm trying to think of one that, uh, that I didn't name that you, you wouldn't know fatty girl. No reason if you don't know that one. Um, why not?
You say I'm not hip, fatty girl. Yeah. I don't know. Do you know what I'm talking about? I have no idea what you're talking about. Okay. All right.
So I guess that checks out for you. One of his hits. He had a song with Jennifer Lopez. Oh man. Crossing over. Oh, my love. Yeah. Something like that. Uh, here we go. Anyway.
Good, good, good choice on going back to Cali. Not one of my favorite LL songs, but yes, uh, an LL hit, uh, nonetheless speaking of hits, did the college football playoff rankings? Well, damn it. They just hit.
Did they hit accurately? Yeah. I see no problem with anything that just came out.
Of course, people are going to yell and scream. And the one thing that I might take issue with from what we saw, by the way, BYU is basically falling off the face of the earth. Let me go ahead and pull this up one more time. A BYU taken a, a big old fall. There's so many lists in front of me right now.
It's ridiculous. BYU is at number 14 right now. And as you continue to climb up Georgia, despite beating Tennessee, Tennessee falls from seven down to 11. Georgia is now in the 10 spot. Tennessee follows them. Mississippi beat Georgia.
They are in front of them at number nine. And then the sec school that jumped in front of them all in Tennessee's former seven spot is now Alabama and Alabama lost to Tennessee. Alabama also lost to Vandy back in early October. And so I guess the thought process is Alabama loses to Tennessee, Tennessee, but then Alabama beats Georgia. And so, uh, Hickey, I guess that math, math's right, I guess, right. If Georgia beats Tennessee, but then Alabama loses to Tennessee, but then Alabama beats Georgia, that, does that make sense?
Does it? That's where it's tough, right? That's where, like, I just don't know if you just go straight on the head to head because it doesn't check out. Like if that's the case, it was straight up head to head. And like, like, I don't know how you sort the three teams. You just mentioned Tennessee, Georgia, and Alabama. Then where's Ole Miss come in where they only played one of those three teams. They beat them, but worse lot, like it's not, I will say it's not easy, but everybody knows Ole Miss is the weakest link out of them all. Right.
Am I bugging there? I know. I agree. And I don't see, like, I don't think it's right to look at Tennessee who came in as the highest ranked team of those four. And they were competitive against Georgia. They lost by two scores. Well, well, damn it. After the beginning, they were not right.
Yes, fair. But at the end of the day, look, you lost by two touchdowns. They were in it for most of it right on the road where Georgia's, well, I think 48 or 49 and won the last, you know, at home over the last few years, they've been dominant. And now you're going to drop them all the way now, beyond everybody else, despite the fact that like, that's a quote unquote, good loss. And you're going to reward Ole Miss for losing to Kentucky at home. Like it doesn't, that does not compete with me. Yeah.
I use, I thought Georgia would be higher. But if you, well, when is Ward man, you're going to talk, are you going to chat? What, another 10 minutes trying to explain this?
I hope so. We're not going to get an answer. And that's all, he's the King, all those, you know, committees, spokesmans, they are the Kings of non-answers, but it should be soon here at some point to try to justify or explain what the hell they were thinking. The only, the only answer for Ole Miss being in front of Georgia is that they beat him. That's, that's it. That's it. There's another reason.
And nobody, nobody could justify anything different on that one. I don't know. Alabama was at 10.
I don't know. I would have, I would have Georgia behind Ole Miss. And if you're from Ole Miss, what are you going to do? Argue and complain about that if Georgia was in front of them? Like, what could you possibly say besides we beat them? Well, I don't know. This stuff is silly. Here's your, here's your top 12.
I'm going to, I'm going to say it again. No surprises here at the top. Oregon at one, Ohio State at two, and Texas at three, Penn State at four, Indiana at five, Notre Dame at six, Alabama jumps up to seven, Miami, even after, you know, getting smacked around by Tech, they're sitting around at eight, Ole Miss is at nine, Georgia 10, Tennessee at 11, and Boise State at 12. And because of the conference champion, which they, Boise State would be situated at right now, they would be the fourth team here to get a bye. There's some unranked teams that were, weren't in the rankings last week that jumped up, Illinois, UNLV, Iowa State. Arizona State is here at 21, Tulane jumps up five spots from 25 to 20. Also this upcoming weekend, a big matchup between Indiana and the Ohio State University.
Very, let's just say interesting, what will happen with this one? Because is anybody looking at Indiana? Is anybody favoring Indiana over Ohio State? And so what happens in that game on Saturday? What happens when you take a look at that five spot and who shifts up and who shifts out?
And I don't, I don't know about that one. Hickey, what are your thoughts on Indiana? I feel like they, I'm not going to say they got the same, you know, future as BYU in front of them, but it's not going to bode well for Indiana.
I am nervous. I like Indiana a lot. I think they're a really good team. When you see how far BYU fell and Indiana's resume up to this point is nowhere in, I mean, it's not as good as BYU's was, and I get Ohio State's better than what Kansas is. I still believe if Indiana plays them competitively, like if they play competitive, if they play Ohio State the way Tennessee played Georgia, I think Indiana is in the playoff.
I don't think they dropped from five to 13 or 14. We're talking about 21 points and it's really never close. They don't feel in it at all. I would get nervous that you would hear all the arguments of they played nobody, the biggest game, you know, they got blown out. They don't deserve to get them out. Put another SEC team in there.
No, no, no, no. We don't need no more SEC teams. I would be nervous, especially if you look at two weeks from now, if A&M can beat Texas at home, slide them up. Slide them up, kick Indiana out, and you could see an 11-1 Hoosiers team out. I think they're in, but I'm nervous. I wouldn't be surprised if that were the case.
It depends on, like you said, if they're competitive. Hey, speaking of Ward Manuel, there he is. He's on the screen.
Picky, help. Can you get that man a shirt that fits? He got a lot of money. Right. That neck is about three sizes too big, it looks like. Yeah.
Why is the shirt? You look at the, what's that guy on the left? I can't remember his name.
Reese Davis. Yeah, I never listened to that guy. Uh, wait, wait, doesn't he, does he call the games too? He calls games, right? Hosts, college games. He calls a few sometimes here and there, but mostly just the college game day hosting. I feel like the majority of time I hear his voice is like, he's, he's, he's, well, it's not play by play, but he's calling games, right? Isn't that him? He's the college game day host. No, that's, that's, no, that's a pregame.
I'm talking about for the actual games. He felt like for Chris Fowler a little bit, like usually once or twice, he doesn't do a lot of play by play. Yeah, really? I'll tell you, I don't listen to these people. I know you're very anti-broadcaster. I am. I got the, I got the TV on mute while I drink a beer.
I do not want to hear nobody. Do you have music out in the background? Music? I'm typically reading, music, reading, doing a bunch of stuff. So you're not sitting in silence watching these games at least?
No, I'm not a mime. Well, picture now you at home, like all the lights off, TV's on, on mute. You can hear a pin drop and you're sitting there watching the game. I may, I may have music on. Listen, sometimes I might be outside of the bar. I can't hear nothing, right?
True. Even if the sound's on, you're not hearing anything. Don't hear anything. So I've conditioned myself over the years.
Maybe the last broadcaster I listened to really is, I don't know, and John Madden. That's a long time, bro. What? A long time. That's like 20 years ago. 15 years. Wow.
That's a lot. So you love the mute button every now and then, you know, every now and then I'll hear some, I'll turn it up if I need to hear a, what do you call this thing? You know, an explanation, but I don't need this stuff. So you rather listen to the rules officials than Joe Buck, Reese Davis, Kirk Herbstreet. Well, when they explain it.
Also, let's, let's also keep in mind for the past four or five years, during the majority of all sporting events throughout the week being on Hickey, you know where I'm at? You know, I've been sitting right here in that seat you're in and a box. I can hear myself. I can hear you.
You know what else? I hear nothing. I got all these stupid TV's on in front of me. I don't know what Ward manual is saying. I gotta, I gotta rely on you to tell me what he says when he's done. And then we both listen to it.
I have no idea. And so it's not a foreign idea for me to see people move and not know what any of them are saying. That's fair. Touché. Okay. All right.
Yeah. I mean, five days a week when you're sitting here, like you said, watching games on mute, you become accustomed to it. I could turn the sound up on all the TV's. I don't know how that'll go on the radio, but it sounds like a mess.
That would not be good. How about this in a few minutes? I don't know if this game started, but one of these TV's I'm gonna put on the Celtics and the Cavs. I don't know who the hell are calling these games. I don't hear them.
I have no idea, but I can see what my eyes. Ward manual shirt is too big. Don't need volume for that. I don't need volume to see a shirt.
Maybe he lost weight. Good for him. Come on now. You got money.
Oh, come on. What's that? What's on his tie? What is that? Are those eggs? I don't know what those are. I can't tell, but it's better than a certain shape that you see in a lot of ties that looks kind of weird. So I don't know if it's, yeah, I don't know what that is.
Good for him. He's explaining away a lot of, a lot of nothing. We'll pay attention closely, even though we can't hear it.
We'll figure out what he's saying and then we'll share it with you once we have a better idea. Oregon one, Texas two. Oh, this is a production. Yeah. Miami three, Boise state at four right now, those four teams would get the buy. I'm sure he's being asked what the hell is going on with the sec teams. We'll get into that.
And you know, speaking of Oregon at number one, let's show love to a former Oregon quarterback because Bo Nix, he has jumped his way up into the rookie of the year conversation. We'll talk about that on the other side of the break. It's the JR sport re-show here with you coast to coast on the infinity sports network. You're listening to the JR sport brief. A lot of Michigan connections there.
A hickey question. Now where's where's Michigan on the college football playoff rankings? I think they just were left out.
I think they are 26th. Oh, okay. Just on the outside looking and knocking on the door JR. Yeah. Mm-hmm.
Yeah. Shout outs to Chris Webber. Anyway, it is the JR sport re-show here with you coast to coast on the infinity sports network. We just got the college football playoff rankings. Nothing, nothing new at the top Oregon, Ohio State, Texas, Penn State. Indiana is still sitting at five.
We'll see what that looks like when they take on the Ohio State University. Notre Dame at six. Alabama has jumped up to seven replacing Tennessee. Where's Tennessee?
I'll tell you in a second. Alabama at seven. Miami at eight. Ole Miss at nine. In front of the Georgia Bulldogs at 10. Tennessee behind Georgia. Boise State at 12. SMU at 13. BYU falling off the face of the earth. BYU.
Now at 14. Wild, wild stuff. And we just, yeah, Ward manual just spoke. We found out a few of the words that he just shared on the airwaves.
And when you think about why in some of the hows, he was asked about why. And he said that style points is all on ESPN. He said style points, they matter how you win. We watched the games and we see how teams are playing each week. And so we assess their body of work. And so when we see a team, you know, as close wins struggles, comes back, but they win the game. Those are great wins, you know, as a, for, for that team. But it also tells us a lot about where that team is playing. And so we're going to evaluate it each week based on how a team plays from that week, but also their entire body of work. What?
Hickey, we could play that every week the rest of the way. And it would be applicable to any situation. That's what they do. They speak in generalities.
They don't pin themselves in a corner. They basically throw a 30-second word salad, an answer to a question, and they hope that it's satisfactory. What the heck? Oh, I was going to ask what this commercial is for, but then I found out.
Yeah, I think you're watching the same thing. Thank God you didn't ask me. I didn't want to explain. I was like, this commercial looks like chewing gum. And then it said ED gel. And I said, oh, whoa, okay. All right. Well, well then it's like, what new chewing gum is this? Not the one that I want.
No, thank you. Anyway, Ward manual continued on ESPN. Ward manual continued on ESPN in between their interesting commercials. You just heard what he said about style points.
And so this is a very important question. If style points matter, what about strength of schedule? What about the final score? What about stats?
Listen to what he said for that. Watching the games and watching the teams play carries the day for most of us. We look at the data. We look at the stats. We see how other people compare and strength of schedules and all of those things. But we also have to watch the games and see how teams are performing in all facets of the game. And that really lends itself in the discussion of how people see the teams perform. And it's a lot of debate, a lot of discussion. People see it different ways. But that's the value, as you say, of having 13 members of this committee in a discussion that goes on. There's a lot of stuff.
There's a lot of stuff. There's so much confusion as to what the hell is going on with the SEC and who gets in and where they get placed and where they get ranked and who beat who. And we discussed this earlier in the show when we had Trey Wallace on from from Outkick. You know, a lot of of who gets into the playoff and where they get ranked and what have you is going to be based on conference championship games. And so this is a very good question, especially you take a look, whether it's the big 12 or you take a look at the SEC, it's crowded at the top. What happens if we get a close game and let's say the SEC championship game, let's say we get a blowout. We get a blow out in one of the championship games in the big 12. What happens to the loser? Are they getting smashed down by BYU? Is it more or less taken into consideration that they made it all the way, that they were one of the top two teams in their their conference?
What happens, Ward Manuel? Tell us. Well, we have a we have a lot of value. You know, we're not going to, you know, speculate on what will happen, but we have a lot of value of the with the teams that make a championship game.
That says a lot. Playing 12 games in a season, making your championship game is a really invaluable data point, number one. Number two, we're going to evaluate the games and how teams play and the performance on the field.
That's what the commissioners have asked us to do. They didn't ask us to stop right before the championship game. They asked us to to rank the teams through the championship game. And I think you could see over the years how the committee has valued those championship games and and who stays in and where they're ranked. But this year, we're not going to speculate. We're going to let the season play out.
But I think teams who make that championship game, the committee looks at them and puts them in high esteem. Wow. Wow. Crazy.
No, not nothing that he said. Nicky, I can't believe the first round is exactly a month away. Like, that's crazy.
The first round is November, not November, December 20th already. Damn. How crazy is that? I don't know. Coming quick. December.
Man, that's nuts. And with how these seedings are, by the way, with a lot of Big Ten teams hosting games, bundle up. It's going to be cold. Yeah.
Then Midwest cold is different. Feel it in the middle of your damn bones. You feel it. Think about some of these these schools playing and participate. Well, can can we get Miami to help on that? They're going to make the playoff, but is it when you take a look at the current rankings? Unfortunately, there are a few teams that I look at and I just go, they're not winning a national championship. It's nice that they're there.
Like Penn State is there. Who believes in them? Not even you. Right. I'm correct.
You don't even believe in them. Let me tell you this. If George is coming to Happy Valley next month, it's going to be a bad day to be a dog. Oh, wow. Are you going to go? You going to go? I don't know. I would like to. I'm not sure yet. OK, wow.
But I'd like to be there to boo Kirby Smart and usher him out of State College to send him back home a loser. I'm not one for bets. We got to make a bet at that one, right?
Oh, absolutely. I don't know. What do we bet? I got to think, you know, I don't know either. You send me I was going on and we don't want that.
No, thanks. Send you what? This is, I don't know, a stripper exchange.
I don't know this. Wow. I was going to say I thought you're saying a Penn State sweatshirt. She's OK. I don't want to go through that one. All right. Yeah, I don't want no Penn State sweatshirt.
I probably you know what? If the logo was better, I'd wear it. That that line is that line is ugly. You want to tell you ugly logos. George's is ugly. It's a G. It's ugly. It's a gigantic G. No creativity. It's oversized. Oh, black and red.
Black and red is cool colors. The outline of the Nini line is sick. It looks like a puma. That is clean. It looks like a puma.
Georgia. Giant G. Real creative. Wow. And the letters, the black letters with George is badass. It's intimidating.
And no, it's not. A Nittany lion? What is that? Looks like a puma.
Oh, you're a satyr. Good luck. Chum in the water as I see for next month if this breaks out. I'm just saying. Make sure to play that for everyone in Penn State. Play it for James Franklin. Get him fired up.
Whatever. What the Nittany line? What is it? What is a Nittany line? Is that the color? What is Nittany?
What is that? There is a mountain right next to the university. It is called Mount Nittany. And back in the day, unfortunately, no longer around. They're extinct. There used to be mountain lions that roamed Mount Nittany.
Hence the Nittany line. And who killed the lions? The university? Expansion?
Overexpansion? They always talk about the story like that. They never mention who made the lions go extinct. The university probably did.
Expanded all over their territory. Here's the trade off. We're going to kill you all off, but we're going to make sure your legacy is remembered. We're going to name our mascot after you. Your lions in Pennsylvania are no better than the tigers in Louisiana. I'm putting you all in the same boat. You're going to bring out a lion to the football game? You know what? If Georgia comes to town, might have to.
Intimidate him. We'll bring Ugga. Ugga eight, nine, and ten. Okay. I don't know which one is alive.
I think ten. I can't keep up. Enough of the animals. It's the JR Sport Reshow on the Infinity Sports Network. We're going to talk some more football and college. We got it all. So don't move.
