It is the JR Sport Brief show here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. I'm coming to you live from Atlanta, Georgia. Super producer and host Ryan Hickey is coming to you live from New York City. And thank you for listening, because if you were not here, if you were not tuned in, there would be no show. So we'll be hanging out with you for one more hour.
The show gets started every single weekday at 6 p.m. Eastern, 3 Pacific. Yeah, we've had a hell of a show, too. Sean Merriman came by, former NFL defensive rookie of the year, and Pro Bowl or All-Pro Mr.
Lights Out came through. Charger, Buffalo Bills. Johnny Damon joined us last hour, or two hours ago.
And Tom Flaws, when you're having fun. Thank you to Johnny Damon for coming through, former Boston Red Sox, former New York Yankee, two-time World Series champion. And Johnny came through to talk to us about, well, the Yankees, who right now at this moment, this second, in Game 5 of the World Series, the New York Yankees lead the Dodgers 4-0. The Dodgers had a 3-0 series lead. They now lead 3-1 after the Yankees beat them last night. This is the top of the third inning. The New York Yankees are in a very good spot right now, up 4-0. Aaron Judge hit his first career World Series home run, a two-run bomb. Jazz Chisholm followed up with his own home run. And Alex Verdugo, he scored Volpe on a single.
The Yankees lead 4-0. We'll keep you up to date. And then, of course, it's Wednesday. Every Wednesday I bring you a new top six list. This afternoon, this evening, I'm deciding to share with you a top six list of some of the most disappointing quarterbacks this season.
If you missed the full list and the explanations and the fancy audio and what have you, you can go ahead and hit rewind on the free Odyssey app. At number six, I gave you Dak Prescott. At number five, I gave you Deshaun Watson.
And number four, I gave you Will Leviss. Number three, Anthony Richardson. He spoke today. You know, a matter of fact, let's take a listen to Anthony Richardson. We know he was tired.
We get it. But today he actually spoke to the media. And this is his reaction that Richardson had to being bench.
Take a listen to this. Maybe he learned his lesson. It hurts as a competitor. You know, definitely don't want to be told that, you know, you're not the guy anymore for the upcoming week. But, you know, it's all good. I'm using this moment as an opportunity to grow and just learn from my mistakes.
Would you do anything differently with the tap out play or say anything differently about it? You know, regarding that play, you know, I know I can't do that as a leader, you know, especially as a quarterback of this team, especially as a football player in general. You know, I can't necessarily just bring myself out of the game like that, especially in key moments like that. But, you know, you live and you learn, you just got to grow from it.
Oh, wow. Maybe he is going to learn. Maybe he is going to learn from a damn.
Damn, damn, damn. Joe Flacco got the job, though. Anyway, Anthony Richardson selected number four overall last year. Bench for the rest of the season. Anthony Richardson, number three on my list of disappointments. And number two, I give you Bryce Young and number one. And give you Aaron Rodgers. Shame, shame, shame. Well, we know why Aaron Rodgers is here on the list. He's supposed to be the New York Jets quarterback Messiah, except for he has driven them straight into hell.
Misery loves company, so maybe they deserve each other. Anyway, eight five five two one two forty two twenty seven. That's eight five five two one two forty two twenty seven.
Oh, did I? Hickey did it. Another home run.
OK. John Carlos Hickey. OK. The Yankees are going to win this game, right?
John Carlos Stanton just had a home run. Wow. They are. They're playing a lot better in this game than I thought. That's for sure. Now, if you're Dave Roberts, you already made it yesterday, right? That he basically mailed in game four one to save his best relievers for this game.
It's getting to that point where you can probably save your best relievers now for game six. And he's going to just keep on kicking that can down the road. You think so?
So you just leave your bums in like somebody has to go out there and take the beating. So do you say you concede this game? You think he's going to concede this game and just go back to L.A.?
I think he will. Yeah. Dave Roberts. And I think sometimes there's a balance, but I think he is given no indication that he's going to go for it here. I mean, he was down. He admitted yesterday down 6-4. He conceded the game essentially.
And that's why he left the guy at the total. That guy who just got shelled for what it being like seven runs in the eighth inning. Yeah.
Yeah. They left him. They could have given up 20 runs. That guy was not coming out of the game. Dave Roberts said, buddy, you are pitching this inning. We are saving everybody else for the next day.
You're eating this one. Yeah, it's the odds. Giancarlo Stanton hits his 18th career postseason home run tied for the third most in Yankees franchise history. He's going to be appreciated.
You know, either way. But if he if they win, I guess, because if if Giancarlo stands in next year, he's like running the bases in April and he pulls a calf and he's out for a month. The Yankee fans will hate him again. They won't care too much. But for his sake, they better win something now.
Yes. And they'll hate him a little bit less if he's got at least a ring on the finger next in May when that inevitably happens. And at least those those two jokes of a fan that they got to watch on television somewhere. The New York Yankees leading five to nothing.
It's the bottom of the third eight five five two one two forty two twenty seven. Let's go ahead and hit the phone lines. Let's have a chat here with of course, Alan in Toronto. Alan, you're on the chair of sport.
We show us up. Your expectations were too high for Aaron Rodgers. Don't forget, he's 40. He's going to be 41 next month.
And he's coated with rust. His statistics aren't that bad. Eighteen hundred ninety six yards, 12 TDs, quarterback rating of eighty five point one.
Slow down. Don't don't tell me what my expectations were. He's not a disappointment. Have you heard him? Have you listened to me?
Have you heard him talk about his own game and his own performance? Do you do you know the expectations for the combination? So here, Alan, let's let's try this. What was the expectation for the New York Jets and Aaron Rodgers getting together? What was the expectation? It was too high.
No, no, I didn't. I didn't ask you where it was on a scale of one to ten or the level. What was the expectation for the New York Jets and Aaron Rodgers getting together? What was the expectation? It was supposed to be pretty high. It was it was pretty high.
Yes, I guess it was pretty. Oh, OK. And what has happened by past performance? They're not present reality. No, no, duh. But what has Aaron Rodgers said about his own game? He's disappointed. He's frustrated.
Yeah. So how the hell are you telling me my expectations to line that he's not a disappointment? He says he's a disappointment. He says he needs to get better. He said it every single week. Yeah, but he's what he's a very determined man. So that's that's why he's a very determined man. But I did not expect him to do well at all when you're coated with rust and when you're going to be 41 years old. And as you just said, I just mentioned that.
So which one is it? He's not a disappointment at all. He's doing he's doing much better than I expected. Maybe.
Oh, wow. But I expected him. No, I expected this to be kind of the floor on what he would be. Did I think he was going to go out and win an MVP?
No, but I think in a best case scenario, he would have really pushed the New York Jets into 30 plus touchdown range and not turn the ball over the way that he hasn't been able to move. But he can. He's cooked. And the one I consider a disappointment is Gino Smith. Too many sacks.
And it's his fault. He's just not standing back in the quarterback. He doesn't have I mean, in the in the pocket too much. Maybe a lot of his risky throws are pretty bad.
Late in the day, maybe we're both confused on on what expectations are. Who had expectations from anything from Gino Smith? These are 34, almost 35 year old quarterback. A couple of years ago, he was the comeback.
He was the comeback player of the year. Like, in order to be a disappointment, there has to be some level of we expect something out of you. Like, who expects anything out of Gino?
I expect him to be a decent starting quarterback, but nobody to get you over the hump. I don't think everybody looks at Gino the same. Yeah, he looked terrible. They've lost five in a row and they look terrible against Buffalo on Sunday. So 31 loss, 31 to 10 loss.
They look terrible. There's a reason to point it in many ways. It is a reason why they have adjusted things with Gino the way that they have or at least this contract.
They put it together in a certain way where they could dump them because they know it don't matter if you win comeback player of the year. I think we know what Gino is, you know, and no different than and thank you so much, Alan, for calling from Toronto. It's a pleasure.
Thank you very much for taking my call. Absolutely. I mean, look, nobody's going to wake up and look at Sam Donald and go, oh, my God, we have to bestow upon this man a gigantic contract.
There's nobody trying to do that. Everything in due time. Thank you, Alan. It's it's just interesting time for QBs. Eight five five two one two forty two twenty seven. That's eight five five two one two forty two twenty seven while world that we live in here now.
New York Yankees look like they're going to keep things are rolling here and end up back in Los Angeles. What a time. What a time. What a time. What a time.
Eight five five two one two forty two twenty seven. As we continue on with the show, we're going to have Kenny the Jetsmith. You'll come through and join us in about 10 minutes from now.
Of course, at the end of this hour, I'm going to share with you a few things that took place this day. And what the heck is that? Is that Alan is still there? I thought Alan thought Alan got. I don't know. I don't know. It's sort of screech.
My bad. That was Alan. I think he took a deep breath. I had to turn him off. Oh, he's quiet for a while.
He's just we just breathing, breathing and listening. Why do we got to pay? Do we got to give him a check now?
I guess so. No, we ain't every Wednesday. No, no, no. No, Alan, no check for you.
If Alan gets a check from us, he has to pay taxes in America. Does he want that? Oh, you're right. No, I definitely did not want that.
Not that. He should already be. He should already be taxed for as much time that he spends here.
I don't want to sound mean, but it's the past customs. How does he do? Just what does he tell the customs agent? I'm just going to a sports museum.
What does he do? We're going to the boxing Hall of Fame. They're probably OK, buddy.
Yeah, you're the only one. We saw you last week. Just go on ahead. We saw you last week.
Go back. What did they change? What's what's new in the museum week to week? He's like, I don't know.
A new glove in 1860. I probably saw it. Yeah. Yeah.
I was in my first fight. I witnessed it possibly. I love the sweet science. Oh, my God.
You know, this is actually a good thing. They've run these commercials into the ground. And Jake Paul and Mike Tyson, is that next week or two weeks from now? Do you know off the top of your head?
I've seen that commercial probably five times. I could not tell you the date. I have no idea.
I don't know either. I forgot about it for a long time. That's yeah, because Mike Tyson had what he have indigestion ulcers, upsets stomach diarrhea, upsets.
What do you need, a Tums? It's up anyway. Yeah, I've seen that. Now, you know, it's a bad commercial.
My apologies to anybody listening at Netflix. They have been running the promo, that commercial for like, I don't know, two, three weeks now. And the only image I see is, oh, there's Mike Tyson.
Oh, there's Jake Paul. Oh, they're fighting. But the date is not it's not prominent. Like I'd have to Google it to see when they fight.
Not that it's and now that I know it's free on Netflix, maybe it's not all that important. Let's see. It can't be this. It can't be next weekend. What a crap show of a fight that's going to be.
Hickey, when I Google it, it doesn't even come up. Oh, my God. Terrible. I mean, if you think about it, you have to put it like Thanksgiving weekend. Right. Like that Friday. That's Friday. That seems like the perfect date for people, but not NFL, man. NFL number one game, though, either a nighttime, maybe the lead up like seven o'clock. Oh, Friday night during during a holiday weekend, Black Friday. That seems like the time where most people are in the house ready to chill.
It is much to it. It's beat up each other Friday, November 15. Oh, it's going to be on a Friday. So what we can probably after we get off the air, these guys are probably just getting ready to fight.
Mike Tyson going to be awake that late. Oh, boy. Ouch. Hopefully he's not listening.
He could still beat me up. So this is not a challenge. Please. Yeah. Yeah. Four match card set to get underway eight p.m. on Friday. And so they'll probably have real boxers while we are on the air.
Yep, they do have they have real boxers. Nope, nope, nope, nope. Oh, what a great catch.
Oh, and judge. Now he's going to be out for the year with ribs. No, he'd be OK. I hope not. Yankees. Did you see that? Oh, I see now it's jogging away. Freddy Freeman. Everybody has signs. Freddy, please stop. Like it's Nightmare on Elm Street or something like that. It's two feet away from going yard again.
Yeah, it is bad. Oh, man. I just watched Aaron Judge flying to that wall. He landed OK. He landed all right.
Until his hip is hurting right now. Geez. Better than running into the wall with the foot first, like in Los Angeles.
In Los Angeles. Yeah. How about that? Eight five. He's a big man. I hope he can absorb the pain. Only a couple of games left.
Give him a needle. Eight five five two one two forty two twenty seven. Patrick is calling up for Michigan.
We're talking about quarterback disappointments. Patrick, what's on your mind? Hey, how you doing, Jerry?
Great show as usual. Nice top six as usual. I just thought maybe you could squeeze Daniel Jones into that top six. Maybe eliminate Will Welles. I mean, I don't think Welles was, you know, on the track to start him from the get go, you know. But, you know, Daniel Jones, I mean, this is I mean, what's your opinion on it, Jerry? I just you know, I mean, is he like seven then?
Well, you know what? I had I chose between both Dak Prescott and Daniel Jones. And the reason why I didn't put Daniel Jones on the list is his expectations. What are the expectations for Daniel Jones?
What are they? Just like not do what he did the last couple of years. I mean, he had a great career before the last couple of years. And I don't know what.
No, no, no, no. He did it. He's been I mean, I'm talking about with, you know, with Duke in college. And then, you know, he he looked really good to me, you know, at the beginning. But I don't know what happened. You know, you don't run the ball like you used to. And, you know, I don't know what happened with that. Yeah, it's called it's called injuries.
And then also not having Saquon Barkley and not having good wide receivers and and also making poor decisions. That's that's that's what he does. Well, I mean, he deserved to be on the list there, at least number seven. But hey, quick, real quick, where you are as far as Jameson Williams.
A little breakdown on that, you know, a little farther on that. You know, he was riding with his brother. His brother was driving. They both had guns.
Oh, great. His brother's gun was in the back seat. But he has a CPL. They were both registered. But Jamo had his under the seat, Jameson Williams, in the passenger seat. And that's what started the whole thing. Well, the reason they let him go. I'm just I'm starting to learn is because there is a dispute about whether his brother's CPL covered both guns in the car, which I've heard two sides of the story on that now. So, well, well, Patrick, well, to save us to save us time, let's wait until everything is unfurled.
Not what is pretty much piecemeal. And let's see what happens. But either way, this is just another poor decision by him and a long line and a long line of them. So we'll wait for all the details to come out and then we'll share them here. Thank you so much, Patrick, for calling out from Michigan. It's the J.R. Sportbreeze show here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. We are going to take a break when we come back on the other side. We're going to have a chat with two time NBA champion and current analyst on inside the NBA on TNT. Kenny the Jetsmith is going to come through and join us. And of course, at the end of the show, we're going to walk through quite a few things that took place this day in sports histories. The J.R. Sportbreeze show Kenny the Jetsmith coming up on the other side of the break. You're listening to the J.R. Sportbreeze. It's the J.R. Sportbreeze show here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. Right now, we're being joined by someone who has two NBA championships. You could catch him on TNT inside the NBA, and he has a new partnership.
He's doing some work with the Harlem Globetrotters in season three of this series about Planet Forward. Joining us right now is Kenny the Jetsmith. Kenny, how you doing, man? I'm doing great.
How are you, man? Listen, we're going to talk basketball and of course, so much going on with your partnership now with the Harlem Globetrotters. I know you're in New York. I'm in New York.
I got to ask you this. Them Yankee fans gave us a bad name last night, man. You're ripping the ball out of Mookie Betts' hand.
What are your thoughts on the World Series? I know you're a Mets fan. No, I'm a New York fan. And so, yes, that's classic New York. We got to take the ball out someone's hand. That is classic New York. That's like every cab driver, every person on the subway going through.
You're fighting for every inch. So it wasn't a bad name. It was very typical, unfortunately, at times in terms of the sport. But as you're calling it, the Yankees versus the Los Angeles Dodgers, I'm saying it's the Yankees versus the Brooklyn Dodgers. Oh, what a shot, Kenny. You had to throw a shot at the Dodgers.
I'll leave it to you. Do you think they're playing right? No, they were Brooklyn first. They were Brooklyn first.
We know what they are now. Do you think these Yankees have a chance to come back tonight, Kenny? I think, you know, of course they have a chance. But the difficulty of being down 3-1 in any sport, you know, from basketball to baseball, it's those are far and few. So the great thing about it is that they're back to back, where typically in most sports you have a space in between, between games. So these back to back games, I think, may help the Yankees.
Kenny, the Jetsmith is here with us on the J.R. sport re-show Coast to Coast. You talk about the playoffs and we know the NBA season just started. This is a controversial subject in the NBA.
It's Joel Embiid. We don't know what they're sitting him out for. Is he good? Is he bad?
Is he playing for the playoffs? They've just been fined 100K for not disclosing what the situation is. What are your thoughts on how they're handling him? Well, I think the one thing for Joel is, you know, being healthy. But I also think for the Philadelphia 76ers is having a clear transparency that, you know, that what's going on. Because I think that they owe that to not only to the league, but they owe that to fans around the world to understand what's really going on and to be receptive and understand when he will and will not play.
So for me, it's transparency that's really important. And I think that's big if you're the Philadelphia 76ers. Well, Kenny, with the season starting, we know that the Celtics are the favorites.
People are looking at them. Is there anything else that's taken, like, really caught your attention this part of the season, I guess I should say? Well, you know what? The funny thing is, like, some of the usual stories, you know, the Yankees, I mean, the Lakers. Nobody's going to take the ball out of LeBron's hand, right? That's not happening?
Exactly. LeBron is, like, the only person, if you really think about this, if you didn't know that with LeBron James, right? And you only looked at him physically, the way he moved, you would not know what year he's in. That is, like, the most astonishing physical specimen that I've ever seen and what he's ever done, doing, and what the Lakers are doing now early with A.D. To me, it's surprising that they got off to such a fast start, 3-1 with a new coach and LeBron and all those things as well. Well, we've heard your thoughts on inside the NBA as it relates to Bronny James. Do you think even later in the season we'll see him, or is he just going to be parked on the bench pretty much on the Lakers' side? Well, he's a second-round pick. He's going to go through what all second-round picks go through. They go, you know, back and forth to the G League, and a lot of first-round picks forget that as well. They go at the end of the first round. They go to the G League.
They come back. They have to earn their minutes and earn their time, and you're really there to develop. When you're a second-round pick, most of them, you're not looking to be key contributors in their first year.
You're looking at them to be contributors in their second and third year specifically. So he's no different, and he has an opportunity to do that with the Lakers. Kenny, the Jetsmith is here with us, the JR sport re-show Coast to Coast. When you think about both the East and West, who has the best chance of stopping these Celtics from repeating? Ooh, the East is tough this year, you know, Jay. I mean, like, if you look at the Knicks, what they've done out in cat, you look at Philadelphia if they're healthy, you look at still Milwaukee, you know, these teams are primed. And any of them, if they win the NBA Finals, you wouldn't say you're surprised. So the Eastern Conference has gotten a lot more top-heavy than it's ever had, and so all of those teams have an opportunity.
And then you have teams like Indiana, who is trying to, like, break through and be one of those teams that really becomes contenders and not just playoff teams. Well, Kenny, outside, while I guess still sticking to basketball but more applicable to you, you're doing some work with another New York entity that's become a global brand, the Harlem Globetrotters. Tell us about your relationship with them, the project, the series.
Well, what's the good word? Well, we're in our third series on NBC, Play It Forward is the show. I'm the host, and I've had a long history with the Globetrotters. At 11 years old, I won a contest to shoot at Madison Square Garden, free throws for Curly Neal in front of 19,000 people, so I did that, and I made them.
I'll just say that. And the second part, you know, I was all, you know, in Houston, they used to train in Houston when I was at Houston Rockets, so I used to recommend players that would play pickup with us that could possibly make the Globetrotters team that did. I was a general manager for the Washington Generals, the team that played the Globetrotters, so I've had a long history. This is nothing new, so Play It Forward is just another avenue that it is. It comes on Saturday mornings on NBC, and the one thing it is, it tells about the benevolency and the goodwill that they do outside of the game, not just showing all the tricks and all of the baskets and the hook shots from half court.
It shows all the things they do from going into a music conservatory, which was owned by Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and they actually brought kids there to learn music. They do haircuts for the homeless. You name it, they've done it, and they do it around the globe. Well, talk about just the sustainability of the Globetrotters brand because it's been around a very long time. It's now moved into the social media era.
It's not just America. They travel globally, worldwide, Europe, all over the place. Talk about how big the brand has become and still is. When you think of sports franchises, you think of the Yankees, the Dodgers, you think of the Knicks, you think of the Celtics, you think of the Lakers, and you think of the Globetrotters. They're one of the historic and iconic brands in sports, and it hasn't changed.
And probably it's done it longer than any of them. So for me, you know, being part of it and being part of it again is just an honor and a lot of fun. Well, listen, you talk about iconic brands and franchises. You've been a part of a multi-Emmy award-winning show on Inside the NBA. We get a chance to enjoy you the rest of this year, hopefully into the future as well.
Talk about how that has helped shape what you've done career-wise over the past 20-plus years. Well, you know, being a player is one thing, but, you know, I think the four of us between myself, Charles, Shaq, and Ernie, we've arguably been the voice for the NBA, where people turn to over those two decades, and they get most of their information, a lot of their ideas, and a lot of their, you know, thought process about what the league is. So it's been fun to be part of that. We don't take that lightly.
We take it seriously, even though we have a lot of fun, but we do understand that our voice carries, and it's important that we not only have fun, but we're super informative at the same time. Well, Kenny, it's good to see your voices continuing, helping to elevate the Harlem Globetrotters as well. Where can people follow you on and off the court in a series as well with the Globetrotters? Well, if you watch Playing Forward Saturdays on NBC, you're going to see me there having a lot of fun with the Globetrotters, but also you always catch me on your show. Hey, Kenny, I'm going to catch you soon in person, man. Always appreciate the time, okay?
No doubt. You're listening to the JR Sport Brief. It's the JR Sport Reshow here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network.
Thank you so much to Kenny the Jet Smith for joining us in the last break. He's right about those Yankees right now, as you just heard from Peter Schwartz. They lead the Dodgers five to nothing. The bases are loaded. A couple of errors, one in the outfield, one in the infield by the Yankees. Garrett Cole is dealing, just struck out Shohei Ohtani and he just got Mookie Betts to, they conceded a run, a little too fast there.
Five to one is the score. Yankees still in command here at the top of the fifth, two outs here. A New York Yankees trying to hold on and force a game six and force a game seven in Los Angeles. Regardless, this is going to be the final game for the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium. They want it to be a loss and they want it to be where their season is extended. 8-5-5, 2-1-2, 42-27.
That's 8-5-5, 2-1-2, 42-27. Hickey, the game got interesting here in this inning. It got it, Judge dropped a catch in center field and Volpe missed one heading towards third base and now Freddie Freeman is up with the bases loaded. This is what makes baseball fun. I wish we had more moments like this, but you can't force them. It's the championship series, really. It would be a hell of a time for Freddie to extend his already record six home run streak to seven, huh? Is that what you want?
Game tying grand slam. Is that what I want? I'm going to be a bad guy here.
Yes, you do. I want it for you. I like you, JR, and I'm rooting for you. I want to see you happy, trust me. Okay.
Yeah. But for the majority of Yankee fans, I do not want to see them happy. This is what, this is, well, I was going to say this when you just hit the guy, but you can't. You can't hit him.
No one will walk in a run. He's going to strike him out. Garrett Cole has been striking out everybody this entire game. You'll strike him out. He struck out Otani with the bases loaded.
That was a shock. Yeah, he struck out Otani. I think it was months, it was a Muncie before him. I think it was Gavin Lutz. Lutz? Easier to strike out than Otani, but still, nonetheless, bases loaded, nobody out. He went to town. Oh, he's a chopper foul.
Oh, this is the stuff that gives you indigestion. We'll keep you up to date on this game as it continues on. Yankees up five to one. Top of the fifth against the Dodgers. Yankees trying to extend their season. Man, Higgy, what a show. It's been a busy show, right?
There's a lot of guys. Johnny Damon was here. The Yankees could use him tonight.
Maybe not. It looked like they're doing fine without him. And we just spoke to Kenny Smith. Sean Merriman came by. He's going to he's going to do a live tailgate show in Buffalo. I wonder if somebody's going to go through a table.
But it's been it's been a fun show, man. Imagine Sean Merriman throwing you through a table. Oh, crap, a single. Why the hell would you want me? No, no, sorry. I meant like you is like just like a general person.
My apologies. Like imagine like you're at the Buffalo tailgate and all of a sudden there's Sean Merriman. He goes, all right, I'm going to throw you through the table. I feel bad for the ground because you're going right through that table and you're gonna hit the ground hard. He has to do the lights out dance after it, though.
On your dead body. Oh, my God. That dance was great. You know what? It wasn't even crazy of a dance. It just he did the shocker. I don't know what he put. He put his arms out and he did like the electrocute. I don't know what he did. It was cool. I liked it.
It was a little ultimate warrior ish, like shaking the ropes. But he had a he had a he had a solid career, Sean Merriman. And he looks like he hasn't missed a day in the gym in the past forever. Forever.
And thank you. So Freddie Freeman here. Then two runs single. Yankees now lead five to three.
Now, this would be Hickey. That would be an ass way for the Yankees to lose. Unearned runs because Aaron Judge could not catch a ball in centerfield. What are we doing out here?
What are we doing? I would agree. And to be ironic to the night that he actually gets the bat going and finally kind of gets off the snow there. That would be his glove that cost the Yankees here. That would be crazy.
Well, all things considered, the way the Yankees are going, they'll likely get some more runs up on the board. Don't you think? Probably right.
Yes, you would think. But now if you're Dave Roberts, you're talking about saving those arms for later in the series. Now you bring out the real guy. Now I think you start bringing out the big boys. You know, and and we've seen that Yankee lineup struggle.
Well, we'll see what happens here. New York Yankees. What was a five to nothing lead is now five to three at the top of the fifth. Let's see if the Yankees could keep their season going and try to make some history. And speaking of history, it's about that time of the show where we go back in time and take a look at quite a few things that took place this day in sports history. Back in the days when I was young, I'm not a kid anymore, but some days I sit and wish I was a kid again. It's time for this day in sports history. You see, back in those days, we had radio and you couldn't see anything.
And it was primitive and lousy and we liked it. On the J.R. Sport Brief Show. I wish I was 50 years younger and I'd kick your ass. It is the J.R.
Sport Brief Show here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. Today is October 30th. The year is twenty twenty four.
But if we go back in time, October 30th, nineteen forty five. Jackie Robinson, he signed a contract with the Montreal Royals. Yeah, he didn't make it to the Dodgers yet. He had to wait until forty seven for that.
But congratulations. Shout outs to Branch Rickey. Always looking out for Jackie Robinson, helping to move the color barrier forward. Jackie Robinson joining the Montreal Royals in nineteen forty five.
Let's hit the fast forward button to this October 30th. The year is nineteen seventy four. You might have heard of these two gentlemen. Muhammad Ali, George Foreman. It was the rumble in the jungle.
And how about this? Muhammad Ali, rope-a-dope, knocked out Foreman to win the heavyweight title. Take a listen to this final call courtesy of HBO. Yeah, eighth round knockout, knocked him out with that rope-a-dope, wear him out, knock him out. That was nineteen seventy four Kinshasa. October 30th, 2003. Some guy named LeBron James, who's still playing here in twenty twenty four. He made his NBA debut against the Kings in Sacramento.
You might remember this, the chosen one commercials, all of that stuff. The Kings beat the Cavs one oh six to ninety two. But LeBron James, his first game, twenty five points, nine assists in six rebounds. Who the hell does that as a rookie? LeBron James.
Listen to these highlights from ESPN. There is the man of the hour in probably the most anticipated debut of any first year athlete in any sport. LeBron James will put it on the floor for the first time in a regular season game tonight on the run. This is his best part of the game. And there's his first assist.
And it's a beauty. And that's what makes him so good. And that's where his skills are really going to blossom, because now he's able to throw those passes to players that are going to finish. And he starts it with a strong rebound. LeBron James first shot is good. And that's good to see because during the preseason he wasn't able to hit those kind of jumpers.
And for him to be able to consistently hit the jumper, it's going to allow him to be able to have the defensive guy come up onto him so he can use the strength and drive by him. What's your assessment of your first game? You know, I think I could have helped my team a little bit, a little bit more down the stretch. I mean, I think, you know, once they start making it run, I could have been a little bit more aggressive. You know, just try to pull out a victory, you know, try to steal one on the West Coast. You know, it didn't work out our way, but we got another game tomorrow.
We're going to try to get one tomorrow. Eighteen-year-old LeBron James. Hickey got a little bit more bass in his voice now. How did that happen? That is very funny.
Crazy, I think. Ironically, tonight his son played and made his first NBA bucket. The Lakers were in Cleveland.
This will be going down in sports history in the future as well. The Cavaliers beat the Lakers tonight 134 to 110. Bronny James scored his first back basket in garbage time. Got himself a baseline jumper. Five minutes, two points. LeBron James, 26 points in the loss. That was today. Congratulations, Bronny James.
Yeah, OK. Anyway, 2019, October 30th, 2019, the Nationals. They won their first and only World Series. They beat the Astros in seven games. This is kind of crazy.
They won the game six to two. Even even Rendon. This is the last time he was good.
Listen to this. This is Fox and the Nationals radio network. Ponents hitting 176 against him. That's down the right field line into the corner. This ball is gone for a long run. Nationals on top. Howie Kendrick has made it 3-2. The kick in.
Here it comes. Swag and a miss. Swag and a miss. Swag and a miss. And a World Series game seven winning. Curly W is in the books.
The celebration is on. The Washington Nationals are the world champions. It's crazy. You think about where some of those champions are like Rendon is basically injured and cooked. Strauss Berg has been cooked from the minute that that series basically ended. A Scherzer was pretty much pumped full of painkillers just to get through that series.
At least the Nationals won something. Wild stuff this day in sports history. Man, even thinking about when LeBron made his debut, he was playing against Vlade Divac. Vlade was on the court with Peja Stojakovic.
That's when LeBron made his debut. Unfortunately for the New York Yankees. And good for the Dodgers. 5-5. Aaron Judge drops a ball in center field. An easy ball. Look, fell right into his glove.
Couldn't get it. Volpe has an error as well trying to make a throw to third. And the Dodgers have tied up this game against the Yankees.
The Yankees led at 1.5 to nothing. The Dodgers come back to tie it after a series of errors. Yeah, Aaron Judge, he better come up big time. You better hit another home run.
You better do it soon. Yankees are heading into the bottom of the fifth. Hey listen, it's been a fun show.
