It is the JR Sport Brief Show here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. Coming to you live from Atlanta, Georgia. Much love to everybody tuned in and locked in all over North America. I'll be here with you for the next two hours.
This show gets started every single weekday at 6pm Eastern, 3 Pacific. You can consider this to be the start of the third quarter. No choking in the second half of the game. Just winning.
That's it. Like the Yankees are doing right now against the Guardians. Bottom of the first. Man, Bybee has already thrown 26 pitches.
Damn it, this guy is not going past four if he gets lucky. Yankees are leading one to nothing right now. We'll keep you up to date.
You've already had a busy show because there's been so much to talk about from earlier today. Amari Cooper now a member of the Buffalo Bills. Devontae Adams now a member of the New York Jets. We do have some teams that were left out.
Teams that need wide receiver help still don't have it. Get into that. Hey, thank you by the way to our guests for joining us last hour. Zach Rosenblatt joining us from the Athletic. He covers all things New York Jets and in about 20 minutes from now we're going to have a chat with Ray Fittipaldo.
He covers the Steelers for the Pittsburgh Post Gazette. So we'll keep you up to date on the baseball. Got some basketball news I alluded to earlier in the show. I don't know if it's news when the Sixers are getting hurt but regular season hasn't even started yet and we got a bunch of these dudes just not even prepared to play. It's sad sad sad. So we got a lot to do.
If you want to holler at me you want to be a part of the show it's simple. The phone number here is 855 212 42 27. That's 855 212 42 27. You can also find me everywhere.
I am online. I am at JR Sport Brief. That's at JR Sport Brief on all of your favorite awful terrible social media platforms. What a day. Hickey nobody getting traded tomorrow. You don't think right?
You wouldn't imagine that? No I think we're safe tomorrow. They can say yeah we are. Man bills get a wide receiver. I'm still taking the bills to win. The Jets are crazy man. Jets will get in via wild card like Zach said and if they don't I'm just gonna laugh. Hickey the reason why I don't care so much I don't I don't think the Jets will win the Super Bowl and maybe they will.
Maybe they have enough talent right now. I just don't think it'll happen and so because I don't think it'll happen I don't care if they get in or not but there's only one way to see and that's to watch them play. That's true although so I'll go back to what you said yesterday then 24 hours later with Devante Adams now in your team are you happy the Jets lost yesterday or sad?
Well you take me back to what I said yesterday. I don't care. I'm ambivalent.
I really don't. I am huh let's see oh man I'm happy they got Devante Adams because if they don't win with him it's a bigger train wreck. Okay so you want to build it really build it up here so we're either way it's a giant crescendo either you win and you're happy or it's like the biggest so you're like Jermakris Russell.
If you're going to be a bust then you're going to be the biggest bust. Oh I want that for the Jets. Right right not you right for the Jets.
I do my job I show up right earn my money. Yeah yeah yeah you put you put all of your faith in Aaron Rodgers now you have to go all in with Aaron Rodgers and now you're stuck with him and whatever the hell it is that he wants. Why not what else does he want is there anything else he can ask for at this point not not today right I guess he's done for the year. Yeah can you bring Randall Cobb back again? Oh my god he retired officially right?
He did but we've seen plenty of guys retire then retire. I know where's Donald Driver what's he doing? Greg Jennings is he around? Oh I know him and Greg Jennings hate each other. Oh really oh I did not know that. They do not get along. All right so never mind. You're not Greg.
How about David Bakhtiari you need a left tackle. Did he officially retire? I don't know. Which Jordy Nelson at?
That's now we're talking. Did he just run all of these guys into the ground? He got them all touchdowns. Devontae Adams is next you stick around for a few years and then go quit 8 5 5 2 1 2 42 27 8 5 5 2 1 2 42 27 not everybody got their hands on a wide receiver some guys are just just gonna work out pretty bad let's think about a team like I don't know the Steelers.
We'll have this conversation by the way with Ray Fittipaldo in about 15 minutes. We heard so many conversations about oh yeah watch the Steelers they're in on this to get Devontae Adams. Oh even before the the season started we heard about the Steelers trying to get their hands on another wide receiver who now has a new contract and Brandon Iuke it didn't happen. If you take a look at the Pittsburgh Steelers they got a 4-2 record.
They got a 4-2 record. They're doing this with George Pickens, Pat Fryermuth, Calvin Austin and whatever the hell is left of Van Jefferson. Come on now the Steelers are not they're not moving the ball. Maybe at some point they get I don't know Deontay Johnson. Maybe they get him from the Carolina Panthers. What the hell they need him for? Send him back Deontay Hopkins.
What is this man suffering? There's a lot of suffering and then now we mentioned Mike Williams on the New York Jets okay. Maybe if he goes to another team where the quarterback is not going to throw him under the bus maybe he'll have some success after he blew out his knee last year but the Steelers man if they want to do anything this year they they they have to get somebody else to throw the ball to right. Especially now that we've learned that that Russell Wilson is going to be getting some of the the reps with the ones the first team.
I want to throw the rock. We know one thing about Justin Fields is his legs do the job first. I mean even this past weekend against these awful Raiders. Fields only passed for 145 yards but he rushed for two touchdowns and almost 60. Yeah there'll be a game where he throws for 300 and he'll fumble one game and he won't fumble another but we know he is not going to consistently drive the ball down the field.
What does this mean? I know there are a lot of upset Steeler fans that Russell Wilson is seemingly getting ready to take over against the New York Jets. That's their next opponent.
The Jets got to win this one of course they will. Matter of fact let's listen to Mike Tomlin. He told everybody today Russell Wilson he's going to be hanging out with the first team. Last week we were scheduled for Russ to work in totality. He did that over the course of the week I got comfortable with his inability to display his health.
Now it's about you know knocking the rust off. He did some of that last week. He is in consideration this week.
We'll see where that leads us man. Both guys in quarterback position are scheduled to work tomorrow and we'll just walk it day by day all geared toward putting ourselves in in best position to win the football game. That football game takes place Sunday. Sunday night football in Pittsburgh.
It'll be a fun watch. Russell Wilson hasn't and this man hasn't been active from like before the preseason. This man initially hurt his calf like at the beginning of training camp and he re-aggravated it again as they were getting ready to start the year.
It's October. Who's supposed to believe in Russell Wilson? I hope he stays healthy.
I hope his his calf injury is behind him. And so you got a lot of Steeler fans who are currently taking a look at a 4-2 Steelers team. And of course you got a lot of Steeler fans who live and die by every loss. Every loss they need to fire Mike Tomlin.
Why we got the world's greatest cheerleader? He can't coach worth a damn. That's what the fans say. Mike Tomlin explained and the only way Mike Tomlin can, why the hell they're not keeping Fields as the starter when he has a 4-2 record?
Listen to this. Justin has been really good and we've been really good at times but not to be confused with great. But not to be confused with great. Man this is a competitive league man. We're trying to position ourselves to be that team. And we got a player with talent who hasn't had an opportunity to play so we're going to potentially explore those things. Sometimes it doesn't necessarily have anything to do with what Justin has done or has not done. Justin has been an asset to us man. So we're appreciative of that.
We're appreciative of how he's taking care of the ball but we're just looking at all the people at our disposal the same way that we do at any position. That's what you're doing this thing. You better have your foot on the gas at all times.
You better look to to divide the labor up in the most appropriate way based on who's available to you and healthy. And that's just simply what we're going to do. This is the art of deception.
Best of both worlds. That's it. If you have Russell Wilson able to start and you can have a change of pace by bringing in Justin Fields.
We already knew that he was going to have his own package of plays. This is what it is. The Steelers win games by quote unquote mucking the game up. They want to get down into the muck. They want to get into the dirt. They want to get into the ground.
They want to get into a rock fight. And you can do that with Justin Fields certainly Russian quarterback. But you add another element that the defenses the opposing defenses have to prepare for when you have Russell Wilson. This team is peak. Let's be real. I'm not saying they peak. There's a whole lot more to the year, but they are what they are with fields. But when you have both of the quarterbacks and this was the plan from day one.
Use a little bit of both. The Steelers are going to mix it up. The Steelers are going to get into a heavyweight boxing match with you. OK, on one round, they might go for the body. The next round, they might go for the head.
Go for the head. They might alternate. They're going to say, hey, we're going to pepper you with jabs. They have to switch it up if they want to be competitive. We know what this team is. It's these Steelers. Let's be real.
And if you're a Steelers fan, please also be real. If they can get better, you might as well see if you can compete for a championship. Come on.
See something. Can you compete for a playoff spot? Can Russell Wilson ignite them? Can they have a one, two punch? You know, can Justin Fields be like?
Slash. Do they have a Cordell Stewart esque player there that can help take him to another level? I don't know. Is this is he going to be a wide out? We heard about the joke about him returning kicks. That's not happening, but come on. You might as well see what you got.
8 5 5 2 1 2 42 27. Andrew is here from Michigan. You're on the JR sport reshow. Hey, how are you? I'm excellent.
How are you doing, man? Good. Good. If you hear a police radio, that's my work. So I apologize.
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. You, you saving people? Well, trying to, trying to, but I want to talk to you first. Okay. Well, okay. Thank you.
Police officer. Go ahead, Andrew. Um, so, uh, my prayers go out to hodge, you know, that's an unfortunate thing that happened. Um, but I was gonna hoping to get your opinion on who the lines might replace him with. Uh, they, I know they, they pick, go ahead. I don't think they're going to replace them with anybody, right? Like what's the rush at this point in time? Like you think they're going to trade away an ad and I get it. The lines are all in on trying to win a championship right now.
Yeah. Why do they need to replace him? I, I, I feel that the offense is going to keep them afloat, but who's, who's available that you want to bring in? Like what schmuck is on another team? Maybe we can figure this out in another two weeks, but a, a premier past Russia, do we have an angry one?
I mean, besides the Simonic and why would it sound Riddick move? I don't know. What are you thinking? I mean, the only person that I, the only rumor I've heard is they would trade hand and hooker away with a couple picks for a Crosby because that seems kind of done. Um, well, so how are you going to pay max Crosby?
He just signed a contract himself, I believe last year and maybe early this year. It's tough, right? Absolutely.
And I don't know what you think about that woman, but I'm getting called. So thank you, Jerry. I appreciate it. Okay.
Save some lives. Thank you, Andrew. Damn.
Oh, hickey. That's not good, right? Not good. Not good. At least he didn't deny the call.
That would have been worse. A police officer call. Hey, shout out to all the police officers out there. The ones doing their job correctly. Good.
Thank you so much. I don't talk to anybody, but just do your job. He's getting caught. Yeah. I don't even want to know what does a police officer ever get a good call? Like there's no such thing, right? No.
Yeah. I don't think anyone's calling 911 to say hello. How are you?
Good news. I got donuts down the corner. Come over. You know, you can have some grandma turns one 103 come, come over.
No, that doesn't know. We got cake. We got ice cream. Come over. Yeah.
I don't think those happen. Just need a couple of cops. Damn.
The shout outs to the good officers out there. Damn. Now that I think about it, he's getting a call. That's nothing good. I don't even want to think about what he got called on.
It was awful. 855-212-4227. Ray Fittipaldo is going to join us in about five minutes.
Montos from Arkansas. Go ahead. Quick. Hello, sir. How are you doing? I'm excellent. What's up? Have a great day in the city of Texarkana. Well, my question for you, sir, good new Orleans.
Please get a new coach and a new office coordinator. Also, when you make your introductions, is it possible to hear some empty land? You want to hear MC Wren? You want to hear? Yeah. Well, you, did you, did you, you, you miss my ghetto boys from last year? Come on.
I love the ghetto. Yeah. Your mom playing tricks on me. We'll stay tuned Montos. We'll, we'll work on that for you. Okay. We got to keep it, keep it clean here. Okay.
But, but anyway, here's the, here's the answer to your question. The saints stink. You know, they stink. They don't just need a new coach. They need a new quarterback. They need a new everything.
They're just treading water until they get blown to smithereens and they're bad for a few years. Montos. Absolutely true. Sorry about that. But we'll, we'll work on MC Wren for you. Okay. Thank you, man. Thank you, sir. Thank you.
All the best call anytime. Shout out to Montos from, uh, Arkansas, MC Wren, you know, a little West coast. It's the JR sport here with you on the infinity sports network. We're going to take a break. When we come back, we're going to find out what the Steelers are doing. Starting Russell Wilson telling four and two Justin Fields to take a seat. Ray Fittipaldo is joining us from the Pittsburgh post Gazette.
You're locked in. It's the JR sport re-show coast to coast from the West to the East on the infinity sports network. You're listening to the JR sport brief, our sport re-show here with you coast to coast on the infinity sports network. Davante Adams. He's a jet Mari Cooper.
He's a Buffalo bill. The Pittsburgh Steelers. Well, they didn't add a wide receiver, but it looks like they kind of swapped out QBs. Looks like Russell Wilson might be gearing up for a return, a debut with the Pittsburgh Steelers. That means that Justin Fields, his role will definitely be altered to talk about the Steelers, what they didn't do, what they did do, what they could do the rest of the season.
Now that they've started four and two joining us right now is Ray Fittipaldo covers all things Steelers for the Pittsburgh post Gazette. Ray, thank you for the time. Absolutely. Good to be with you tonight. Thank you.
Thank you. Looking at this four and two start, understanding how they have won and lost some of the games. Now that Russell Wilson is a go with that calf, a little shocked that he's kind of being elevated into playing with the ones.
No, not really JR. If you look at that last game, probably Justin Fields is worst game of the season. Once again, 145 passing yards, which is really kind of like his average for the first six games of the season.
He threw an interception that was negated by a roughing the passer penalty and he was missing wide open guys all over the field. So when you look at it like that, I think Mike Tomlin made this move because the Steelers are 28th in the league in passing offense. You know, you're going to lose a little bit with the running stuff with Russell Wilson, a quarterback, but I think they're betting on Russell sparking the passing game and especially with Arthur Smith. You know, the Steelers run play action. There's only one other team that runs more play action than the Steelers and Justin Fields just isn't very good at it.
Russell Wilson has made a living off that for his entire career. So I think that aspect of the offense will improve as well. So, you know, we'll see what happens with Russ.
He's going to be knocking some rust off. But I think in the end, if they want to be a true playoff contender, they have to have a better passing game. Well, Ray, even outside of that calf injury that pretty much got him all summer long, wasn't this always the plan from day one? Yes.
Yeah. I mean, they signed Russell Wilson in March, and then I think a few days later, two or three days later, they acquired Justin Fields in a trade with the Bears. But the only reason they made that trade was because Kenny Pickett asked to be traded. So that move necessitated going out and getting a backup quarterback.
So, you know, it worked out. You know, Justin Fields was tremendous, I thought, throughout training camp when Russ couldn't play. Obviously, he led the Steelers to a four and two record. There's just something left to be desired when it comes to his accuracy, his decision making, his ability to see the field. They don't let him audible with a line of scrimmage.
I mean, that's a huge untold, you know, factor in all this. The only way that Justin Fields can audible is from a running play to another running play. They don't even trust him audible to a passing play. So that's going to change with with Russell as well. So, you know, I don't want to say Arthur Smith was handcuffed with Justin Fields. They just didn't trust Justin Fields. And I think there's going to be a lot more trust in Russell Wilson.
Ray Fittipaldo is joining us from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. The fans, the fan base, you hear a lot of people who say, well, look at their record, or why would they make this move? What would you say to them?
You gave a lot of strong arguments and points and reasons as to why. Why do the fans feel this way? It feels like a steel of fans don't trust management or the coaching.
Yeah, I think it's the younger fans. I think the younger fans who grew up in this era of football, I mean, football is different at the college level now. There are more Justin Fields entering the league now than there are guys like Russell Wilson. You know, those guys who run pro style offenses are few and far between now. And you have this different style of quarterback.
And I think that's the portion of the fan base who wants to stick with Justin Fields. They like the ad lib. They love the athleticism. But the way the Steelers want to play under Mike Tomlin, and really Arthur Smith as well, is they just want to run a pro style offense.
They want to pound the rock with Najee Harris and Jalen Warren. They want to play action. And they want to get a little bit more out of the passing game. So that's the style that they want to play. And I think that's the style they're going to play with Russell Wilson.
Let's face it, guys. When he was with Seattle, he wasn't throwing the ball all over the field. They were a ball control team that fed off a great defense as well. So Russ is used to playing in this type of system. And I think Mike Tomlin is backing on Russ being effective in the same manner now with the Steelers. How often do you think we'll see Fields? There's a thought that he might pop up here or there as they approach the red zone.
What do you think? This is more options, more things for the opposing defense to think about. But is this going to vary week to week?
Or what do you think? Yeah, I mean, I'm sure they're going to have packages for Fields, probably in goal to go situations. That's where he's been most effective.
He leads all quarterbacks in the league with five Russian cut styles. So I wouldn't expect much, you know, in the middle of the field. In terms of when they're going to do it, I think that's week to week, team to team. I think maybe a team like the Raiders were more vulnerable to that. And we'll see what transpires this week with the Jets.
Probably a much better defense and a much more traditional defense than what they're facing on Sunday night. So yeah, there will be some packages, but it's hard to say on a Tuesday or a Wednesday just how much Justin Fields will play on Sunday night. Just how much Justin Fields will play on Sunday night. Ray Fittipaldo is joining us here from the Pittsburgh Coast Gazette.
It's the JR Sportbreeze Show Coast to Coast. We know that the Steelers wanted to get their hands on another wide receiver dating back to summer, whether it was Brandon Iuch. More recently, Davante Adams has been reported that they were kind of poking around there. Is there still a possibility that they can bring on another wideout between now and November 5th at the trade deadline?
I mean, they were shooting high, guys. They went after guys who could be number threes. They wanted a number one to come in here to pair that guy with George Pickens. There's just not too many guys who are available right now. Davante Adams was probably the last one, and Cooper as well today. But the Cleveland Browns were never going to trade Amari Cooper within the division, let's face it.
So, yeah, there's probably a few lesser names out there. But I think the one thing that goes unsaid with Arthur Smith, he loves his tight ends. They are in 12 personnel. That's their base offense. I mean, they play two tight ends, probably as much or more as anyone in the league. They play with three tight ends more than they play with three receivers. So, that's another aspect of this as well. Would they love to have another, you know, good receiver to pair with Pickens?
Yes. But if you go back and look at Arthur Smith when he was in Tennessee, he got by with, I would say, a relatively average receiver group. I know AJ Brown was there. But beyond AJ Brown, he didn't have much there. He made it work because he utilized everyone within that offense. And I think that's going to be his perspective now.
That's the way he wants to play. And I think there are ways to get around not having a true number two receiver. Well, Ray, you talk about the two wide receiver after Pickens. We know what Pickens can do.
I remember him here in Georgia. At what point do the Steelers look at George and just go, when are you going to grow up? We've seen this before with Steeler wideouts. Is he reaching that point?
Are they ignoring? Like, what's the deal with him? Yeah, I mean, it happened with Antonio Brown. It happened with Martavis Bryan. It happened with Chase Clayton. That's just three off the top of my head. It's probably happened more than that. And you being based in Georgia, listen, you knew there's a reason George Pickens fell to pick number 50 in the middle of the second round.
There were questions about his character and his behavior at Georgia. So the guy's got all the talent in the world. They have to try to harness it. They have to try to get him more involved early, I think.
They've really had a hard time doing that for whatever reason. I really think, guys, with Wilson taking over now as quarterback, a professional passer, a guy who knows how to get other guys involved, I think George Pickens could be the biggest beneficiary out of this move among everyone on that offense. I'm not saying it's going to be perfect, but I'm just saying that with Justin Fields as a quarterback, he never really did figure out how to incorporate George from week to week.
I think Russell will be much better at that. Well, Ray, we know the defense has been handling business led by Mr. Watt, putting the clamps on the opposition. The Bengals having an off year. We know the Ravens are always going to be hanging around. We know the Browns are absolutely awful, awful, awful.
What are your thoughts on what the Steelers can do the rest of this year, realistically at the end? Yeah, I mean, to me, guys, for the last really since 2017, you know, they were 13 and three that year. They probably should have been the one seed if not for a bad call in that Patriots game. But really, since then, they've been like a six or seven seed every time that they've made the playoffs. And I think this year, if you want to do better and you want to finally win a playoff game for the first time since 2016, you've got to win the division. And that means beating the Ravens.
So you've got to get a top four seed. You got to, you know, play a home game. And, you know, they're tied right now with the Ravens. We'll get the Ravens twice in the second half of the season.
You know, kind of a scheduling quirk. They have all six division games, I think, in the final seven or eight weeks of the season. So they're going to have a chance to, you know, to accomplish that.
So that's where they are for me. I think right now they're kind of like in the same boat as Buffalo and, you know, some of those other teams that are in wildcard position. I think they're a step below the Ravens, the Texans and the Chiefs. And who knows, maybe this switching quarterback, maybe that'll get them up to that upper echelon. But right now, I think they're probably a wildcard team if they want to win a playoff game.
Like I said, I think they got to go out and win that division and top the Ravens. Well, Ray, we always hear about how Mike Tomlin has yet to have that losing record. And we hear players, whether they're retired or active.
Aaron Rodgers, the latest. Oh, I love Mike Tomlin. The players, whether they play for him or go up against him, they love Mike Tomlin. Every time I step foot in Pittsburgh, my Uber driver tells me, oh, I can't wait to get rid of Mike Tomlin. He just got an extension. Please describe the relationship between the fan base and Mike.
It's like they don't appreciate. Yeah. I mean, listen, this is the longest playoff victory drought for the Steelers since the NFL, AFL merger in 1970. This is the longest they've gone between playoff wins in that time.
So that's over 50 years, guys. So, you know, in 2017, they were the two seed. They lose at home to Blake Bortles and the Jaguars. 2020, they lose at home to Baker Mayfield and the Browns. And that was a much lesser version of the Baker Mayfield that we see now. And it's just there are some bad losses in there in the postseason that I think that has soured the fan base.
Now, I'm not going to argue. I'm going to tell you, Mike Tomlin is a really good coach, but he hasn't produced in the postseason. And when you're the head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers and their six Lombardi trophies in that trophy case, that's all that matters. So, yes, it's a spoiled fan base, but they're not going to change.
And Mike Tomlin has to win a playoff game or make another Super Bowl run if the fans are truly going to be happy. Well, Ray, I appreciate the time and certainly the insight. Where can people follow you and all of your work with the Post-Gazette?
Yeah, www.post-gazette.com. My Twitter is Ray fit, R-A-Y-F-I-T-T one. That's my Twitter handle. So appreciate it, guys. Well, thank you, Ray. Have a good evening. We'll catch you on down the line.
All right. It's the J.R. Sport Reshow here with you on the Infinity Sports Network.
We're going to take a break. Phone lines are open. 855-212-4227.
That's 855-212-4227. I'm going to get to your calls. We're going to talk about some of the other teams that are missing out on some wide receiver help.
And we have so much more to do. You're listening to the J.R. Sport Brief.
It's the J.R. Sport Reshow here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. Thank you so much to Ray Fittipaldo for joining us from the Pittsburgh Post Gazette. It looks like Russell Wilson is going to get the go ahead and start this Sunday against the New York Jets. And Justin Fields, he has to take a back seat.
If you missed that interview with Ray Fittipaldo, go ahead and hit rewind on the Free Odyssey app. He brought us some excellent points. Pittsburgh Steelers passing offense. It's been pathetic. The efficiency, the winning.
Yeah, you want to run something? You got to put Russell Wilson back there until he can't play anymore. Until he pulls his other calf. That guy got some big old legs. He got some big calves. OK. 855-212-4227.
That's 855-212-4227. I also asked Ray Fittipaldo about George Pickens. Because that man, he acts like a child. Like, why are you putting curse words on your eye black?
I didn't know I couldn't do it. What are you stupid? Pick, you ever seen a kindergartner teacher, I don't know, show up to work with a shirt that says, I hate kids? You ever seen that before? No.
No, I have not. If a teacher did that, what do you think would happen? She would probably or he would be fired. Oh, my goodness. Postal worker goes to work with a shirt that says, I hate customers. What are you doing? And I get it.
It's football. Why are you going to put that on your face? Always bleep and open whatever version he had.
What are you doing? You can't do that, man. That was idiotic. You know what? A matter of fact, I want you to listen to Mike Tomlin, because Mike Tomlin, he said that the wide receiver position, he didn't name any names, but he said the wide receiver position needs to improve.
Listen to this. You know, at times we've gotten open, at times we haven't. That's just a function of football. And so, you know, say what you want, Will, about, about, you know, that I just think that's always a component of football.
There's always, you know, plays left out there for a variety of reasons. Uh huh. Uh huh. Goodness gracious. It's sad, man. It's sad. Well, George Pickens is sad.
Let me be clear. 855-212-4227. Ian, he's calling from Ontario. You're on the JR Sportbree show. What's up, Ian? Hey there.
Thanks for taking my call. Um, first off, I wanted to talk about Amari Cooper and I think, uh, he's been a pro bowler five times. I think I heard in his career. So I think I'm going to love that move. Um, the Bill's number one move in the off season for the most part in terms of free agency was getting, um, Curtis Samuel and he hasn't done much except played poorly. So I think I'm going to love this, uh, Cooper move to the Bills. And in terms of Demar or, um, not Demar, um, Devante Adams, I feel like that's just going to be another distraction for the New York Jets, um, and for Aaron Rogers to deal with.
Well, damn it. Aaron Rogers is a walking distraction by himself. He doesn't even realize he's a distraction. Yeah. Yeah. And, and I'm thinking that, uh, Adams is just going to be another, another distraction, um, for him. Okay.
And then it is his friend. Okay. Yeah. But, um, and then I also, I was listening to a Ross Tucker, uh, conversation this afternoon on a WGR 550 in Buffalo. And he was saying that, um, he thinks Russell Wilson, um, starting is just the Steelers, um, playing mind games with the Jets. I don't know what you think of that, but, um, no, it's not so much, it's not so much mind games.
And we discussed this in our last call, uh, not last call, but yes, we spoke with Ray Fittipaldi from the Pittsburgh Post Gazette. This is what they've planned from day one. It helps in their favor because you don't know. And I say it and it's true. You got two quarterbacks.
You don't have any. And if you're the Pittsburgh Steelers, you've got both of these guys on basically expiring contracts. This is a show me what you got here is a high probability that both of them will not be back next season, probably fields, depending on what happens. And yeah, there's, there's deception.
And so there's some benefits there. We don't know how much we're going to see fields. We don't know how much we'll see, uh, Russell Wilson.
So it's to be seen, this is going to work in their favor all season long until it doesn't. Okay. And then, uh, one more thing to go ahead.
Um, we, what you were just talking about when you came back from the break, just a funny little story. I did have a teacher when I was younger who, uh, she would wear a hat, um, pretty much every day into work that had a heart with the word kids in it and an arrow through it. So.
Well, he loved kids. Yeah. That's, that's, that's nice.
He's a teacher. You think there's something, well, no, I don't think that's something going wrong with that. I think that was just amazing. And yeah, thanks for taking my call. Absolutely.
And thank you, man. Bob, I don't know how that works in 2024. I don't know how that works. Yeah.
Hickey. I can't walk around with a shirt that says, I love kids. I can't do that.
Right. And I hope the teacher put the hat on maybe when he got in the building or if he drove only in the car, because yeah, you can't wear that. You're inviting a lot of questions wearing stuff like that.
Hickey. I don't know. I don't know if I can walk down a block with my own kid with a shirt that says, I love kids on.
I don't know how that'll work. I think it's a positive. If I have my own kid and I wear a shirt that says, I love kids, it should say, I love my kid, not kids plural. Yeah. Yes.
Especially if you're walking with one kid and you have kids plural. Yes. Okay. Definitely.
That would be a red flag, which is good. Let's name some people that shouldn't wear a shirt that says, I love kids. Let's name some.
You start, Hickey. Go ahead. Your turn. I'm going to pass, actually. I'm going to take a quick pass here and recircle back at the end.
So JR, the floor is yours. Okay. All right. Yeah. I'll let everybody, let everybody, wherever they are, have their own. Anyway, what are we doing? 855-212-4227.
That's 855-212-4227. You're damned if you do. You're damned if you don't. You can't wear a shirt that says, I hate kids. You can't wear a shirt that says, I love kids.
If you're a teacher, just wear a shirt with nothing on it. Andrew is calling from Alabama, my next door neighbor. You're on the JR support. Re-show us up, Andrew. What's up, JR? What's up?
Not much. I was just going to let you know I'm a long time listener. Second time caller. Oh, thank you. I was going to ask, sorry to change the subject on you, but I was just going to see if, what you thought, who was going to win the Texas Georgia game. Have you seen the Bulldogs try to play? Yeah, you're right.
But I mean, I don't know. I feel like people play down to the certain level that it doesn't matter who you are. You play into the level of competition every time you step on the field. So you think the Bulldogs are going to step up, not that Texas is going to step down?
For sure. I feel like a lot of teams are like that. It doesn't matter if you play in Saint Mary's school, the women, Catholic women or whatever. I mean, you play down to that level and it's a close ball game, but then you get into a conference game and you're playing close game. Well, look, we know it can be a close game. I'm not telling you that the Georgia Bulldogs can't go out there and win it, but overall, can they keep up with the scoring? Is their defense that damn good?
I feel like they've sent every one of their players into the NFL over the past three years. Like, can they score with Texas? Is that what it boils down to?
And I think we know the answer on that one's no. And so if you're asking me to pick a team, I'm going to pick Texas. But the reality is that Georgia, absolutely they can win, but I ain't going to bet on it. Not at all. I feel that.
All right. One more though. Would you, after seeing Ohio State lose to Oregon, would you think that Ohio State could still play in a close game with Texas? Who do you think would be the winner of that game?
Yeah, I think that one, I think we're too early on. That literally might be the national championship game. I'm not throwing Ohio State out of the window. Now, I'll tell you some of the teams that we've seen already that I'm not high on.
You named, you just asked me about one of them. I'm not high on the Georgia Bulldogs. Tennessee, you could throw them out the window. Ole Miss, people were killing me earlier in the season. Oh, I'm like, yo, they can't even beat the top, top competition and now they're losing to the lesser competition. So the two teams that you just asked me about, Ohio State, not all that worried about them. We might have some combination of Texas and the Ducks, the Ohio State University.
That's what it might boil down to. Yeah, I feel that. I think the Oregon Ohio State game is a sham. I think if Ohio State had to play them nine more times, I think it would be one to ten.
Are you blamed? You don't think Danny Lanning is a genius for manipulating clock? You don't think that? I mean, he might be, but still, I just think, I think Ohio State is dominant. I think they, and I'm not even an Ohio State fan, but if you're being realistic, it's either Texas or Ohio State. Well, they got so many young receivers. I feel young. Maybe I can go out there and help them out.
Probably not, but we'll see. All right, Andrew, thank you for calling. Good talking to you. I'll call back some other time. Oh, please do. You have a good evening. Okay. Yeah, you too.
No doubt about it. 855-212-4227. That's 855-212-4227. The New York Yankees have the, well, dammit, Garrett Cole has the bases loaded. There are three Guardians on the base paths. There is one out. The Yankees lead a three to nothing, and it can change in one swing. It is the top of the fourth. It's the JR sport re-show here with you on the infinity sports network coast to coast. The phone lines are still open.
If you want to give me a holler, it's 855-212-4227. Oh my God. Wow. We heard, we heard angry Jerry Jones earlier. We heard angry Jerry Jones. He is still angry. He has doubled down with a statement on how angry he was. We're going to talk about that on the other side. I'll get some more of your calls. Me.
I'm not going to be angry because I'm happy. It's the JR sport re-show. I love children. I love, I love kids. I love my kid on the infinity sports network.
