I'm Tony and this is the Tony Kornheiser show. Wow, that makes it sound a bit more serious than it really is. So what exactly is the show about? It's been almost 30 years and I still don't know. Right now we have some of the best voices in football come on to explain to us what we need to know in the college and pro world and we get weekly picks from a monkey.

Do you really need more than that? I might just tell you about my bunker game and the latest failed entry in my quest to find the best coffee ice cream. No schmutz please. Listen on the Odyssey app or wherever you get your podcasts.

It is the JR sport re-show here on CBS Sports Radio. Happy Monday to you. Hope you've had a good day so far, a good afternoon, a good evening. I'm gonna be rolling with you for the next two hours.

This is a four hour show. I get started every single weekday at 6 p.m. Eastern 3 Pacific. I hope you're well, hope you're safe, hope you're cool.

I'm just happy that you're here. Thank you so much to our super producer and host Ryan Hickey and everybody listening all over North America. On the free Odyssey app, your local CBS Sports Radio affiliate, Sirius XM channel 158 and everybody tuned in on a smart speaker.

Just ask it to play CBS Sports Radio. Thank you oh oh oh so much to John Crispin from Westwood One. Calls games NCAA basketball games March Madness games for Westwood One. He came through last hour and we talked about storming the court. We also got some insight as to what might happen in this year's March Madness tournament. John says that it's really really open and he says it's a lot of parity.

There is a lot of parity because of what a shock. There's so much movement going on in college athletics right now with the transfer portal. Man you have teams that go straight towards the tournament.

They're still trying to get used to playing with each other. I guess that's why we have so many miserable ass coaches like Rick Pitino who just I don't enjoy this team. I don't enjoy this experience. This is my worst year coaching in college athletics. It's like bro relax damn. And then he apologized after you realize he hurt his players feelings.

Anyway thank you to John for joining us. Me I guess I'm the no fun police. I don't want to see nobody storming the court because I know one day someone is gonna get seriously hurt seriously injured. That's just the fact.

I don't care what work around wrap around you have. If you're gonna allow fans, spectators, students to run onto the court like a bunch of nuts. Hey bad things are gonna happen worse than what happened with Kyle Filipowski. We talked about running backs in the NFL.

Why? Because there's a report that came out today that says Saquon Barkley, Tony Pollard, Austin Eckler, Josh Jacobs. All these running backs that got smacked with the franchise tag last year. They're not getting tagged again.

No 20% increase on your pay especially for declining production. If you want to think about running backs taking another hit in the wallet, this was it. They'll all be free agents.

We'll see about whether or not they stay with their current teams or whether they move on. Running backs continue to lose leverage in the NFL. A couple of individuals have a lot of leverage and they're using it.

They're wielding their power. Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, Marvin Harrison Jr. They're all skipping at least the physical portion. The physical skills portion of the NFL combine. And if you got a Heisman like a Caleb Williams more, if you got one like Jayden Daniels, if you're just a boss like Marvin Harrison Jr., the hell you need the combine for? Like how are you improving your draft stock when you're already considered to be one of the best of the best of the best?

If anything you put yourself at risk to fall a little bit further. And so we're gonna get more into the NFL combine. So many athletes skipping it and it's not just the athletes. We'll talk about this. They're coaches who are also saying, I ain't going to the combine.

I can just sit down and look at film. And so we'll get into that. There's an NFL coach who looks like he's about to get some big bucks.

I just told you about the Los Angeles Clippers. They are going through a rebrand and a refresh as they get ready to move into their new stadium, the Intuit Dome. So there's just a lot going on. And as we continue here with the show, speaking of a rebrand and a refresh, I don't know if Cam Newton needs one.

I tried to beat this man up at a youth camp. And then Russell Wilson, I feel like he's always trying to go for some type of rebrand. And so as we continue on, we will talk more football, more NFL, more combine. But now that I mentioned this Cam Newton quote unquote fight, I can't ignore it.

As I'm minding my damn business over the weekend, especially yesterday, I saw some grainy footage. It wasn't Bigfoot walking through the mountains, hills of Washington. This was not the Loch Ness Monster, uh, hickey. What's what's another mythical creatures?

Am I missing one? Sasquatch. This is not a UFO, right? An alien.

No, sir. It's Cam Newton. Cam Newton at a youth football league seven on seven getting assaulted.

I'm looking at him like this is kind of grainy. Like who shot this footage and and what phone is this? Who shot this? On what phone did they use a VCR to get the footage? But without a shadow of a doubt, it was Cam Newton and Cam Newton.

A matter of fact, don't don't take it from me. Let's listen to the news. This is actually a WCNC report from up in Charlotte about Cam Newton getting jumped at a football event that he helped host the video surface yesterday showing the former Panthers quarterback at a youth football tournament. The video shows Newton being shoved by at least three people. Police and security officially breaking up the altercation. The event all supposed to help train young athletes in his hometown of Atlanta. Uh, he wasn't just pushed and shoved.

No, no, sorry. Uh huh. There's a guy who came in a swinging at Cam Newton. I don't think he connected with him.

But man, that dude came in swinging and Cam Newton was swinging the dude who got a hold of him. And before anything ridiculous or crazy happened, they were separated. The police were on site. There was security on site who separated them. And it was reported that everybody involved in this little melee was removed.

I'm sure if you have internet access, you can easily go ahead and search the video and watch all, I don't know, 20 seconds of this this nonsense take place. And Cam Newton, as we know, not on an NFL roster right now. Last time we saw him, it was on the back end of his time with the Carolina Panthers. Is he got another chance of an opportunity there following his first go around with the Carolina Panthers. He ended up on the New England Patriots and he is someone who speaks his mind. He is very expressive.

If you needed to realize that that was Cam Newton in the video, you didn't need to look any further than his hat or his hair, where his hair extends past his hat. He's a giant man. They tried to jump him.

I say try. And he was swinging one of them dudes around like a rag doll. I guess that's what happens when you are 65. And I don't know what he weighs right now. What?

2 52 62 70. This man, he ain't no small dude. And he reportedly got into it with folks that he used to coach with on this youth level. And Cam Newton here in Atlanta, Georgia, where he's from, he's out in the community. He is. He has a cigar bar, actually a very nice cigar bar.

I go into every now and then right here in downtown Atlanta. You know, he is holding, you know, youth camps and youth leads. And as I told you, he's expressive from his time in the NFL. Whether you agreed or disagreed with him, I never agreed with how he handled himself following a Super Bowl loss where he pouted or whether he's speaking to kids. I want you to listen to this from a few years ago when Cam Newton was still a free agent. One of the campers stopped him, felt bold enough to tell him, man, like what's going on with you? And he's like, Well, I'm not on the team, but I'm rich. I mean, that's a hell of a comeback to tell a child.

And just just listen to this interaction between Cam Newton and the kid. You ask, you free agent. You free agent. You're about to be pulled. You're about to be pulled. I'm rich.

You're about to be pulled. I'm rich. You're a free agent. You're a free agent. I'm rich.

He's a free agent. Where's your daddy at? Let me talk to your dad. Let me talk to your dad. Where's your dad? You're a free agent. Where's your dad?

I feel like that's the correct me if I'm wrong, Hickey. Is that not like one of the lamest excuses? And I think it's even lamer when you're telling it to a kid, like to have any argument with somebody and just go, Well, I'm rich. That's just I get it. You're you're the former NFL player. Isn't it easier just to say, Man, I've played in Super Bowls. I'm an MVP.

To say I'm written that kind of lame. I guess you're right. He has other more impressive accomplishments than just I have a lot of money. Like you said, MVP, Super Bowl. I mean, honestly, anything anything outside of choking him choking him out for saying that I think is impressive. Yeah, it's just what choking out a kid. I mean, if this kid's talking like that to you, I'm not saying I would have hit him if I was Cam Newton.

But let me tell you, JR, it would have been a close call. Yeah, the kid. If you didn't hear the kid called Cam Newton ass.

Yes, he said he's ass. He sucks. He's no longer good. He's a free agent.

And Cam Newton's response was, I'm rich. And this is the part that that I have thio. And maybe I don't know. I ain't no better human being than anybody else. Like, why? And I get it. It's sports.

People talk trash to each other all the damn time. You're an adult. He's a child, and I get it. He's not an infant. This is a high school aged young person. He's being close to being an adult, going outside and making decisions on his own. But the fact is, at what point do you say to yourself? Why am I arguing with this kid? Isn't there a better way to have a conversation? And unfortunately, when it comes to Children, especially Children that are not your own, in most cases, it's best to just ignore or at least just just try to keep things even.

It just sounds very childish to go. Well, I'm rich. I'm rich. I'm rich. I'm rich. I'm rich and reportedly, allegedly this this whole melee started. If you asked TJ and Steph Brown, who are the opposing coaches with Cam Newton, who used to work with him, it pretty much said that that he was trash talking with them throughout the entire weekend and demanded that they put some money on the game.

Now, is this a surprise? If this is true, I don't know if it's true. If it is true that Cam Newton be trash talking. This man was dancing and trash talking when he was playing when he was an MVP. We just heard the man yelling at a kid telling him how rich he was.

And this is not the only time that Cam Newton was telling kids, Hey, I got a lot of money. Like, what's that proof? They come into your camp to learn something from you. And it seems like when you talk trash, what do you think comes back to you? People are gonna egg you on. People are gonna push their buttons because they know they're gonna get a response. I've never heard of such thing with anybody else. Maybe Cam Newton should I don't know, maybe chill on the trash talk, and I'm sure he's gonna have a response that is very artsy and very thoughtful on his podcast, and he will paint it however it is.

Man, there's enough evidence that we've seen throughout your career, throughout your public life. Sometimes you just you say whatever to whoever, and it doesn't matter. You know, Shannon Sharp. He was actually on the Night Cat podcast that he does with Chad Johnson. And Shannon said, Man, it's embarrassing the way kids talk to Cam Newton, as opposed to talking to somebody like I don't know the Mannings.

Listen. So what I tell you what you've never seen. Peyton and Eli been having a camp for 20 something years.

You ain't never seen no kids be disrespectful to Peyton and Eli. Tell me, tell me the footage. Tell me the footage that you've seen out there. Show it to me. What Peyton and Eli asked these kids or the Drew Brees because a lot of times they take up a lot of these pro quarterbacks and sometimes upper level college quarterback. Show me the footage.

It's us because we think it's cute. I show a man I went out there, man. I told Carol to shut up. I told him he was trash.

I told him he was garbage. Y'all think that's cute. It's not. It's not.

And you wonder why I don't. I've been stopped wondering, right? It's embarrassing.

It's embarrassing. But this this kids and as adults, you as an adult set the boundaries for how people respond to you, whether it happens to be an adult or a child and everybody got free will. People can go around saying whatever the hell they want to do.

But what you have control over is your response. Okay, there's another instance that we can't share here with you on CBS Sports Radio because it's more visual. Cam Newton pretty much gave the same response to one camper one time at a different situation. And he also had a hand gesture to a kid that pretty much said, Yeah, I got more money than you. Ha ha ha.

Look at me. It's just so two rights or excuse me, two wrongs. Don't make a right. And if I'm gonna place blame on anybody, am I saying Cam Newton deserved to get jumped? Hell, no, I'm not gonna say anybody deserved to get jumped.

I don't know the full details to say enough. What I do know is that Cam Newton has never been shy and expressing himself. He's never been shy and being him.

God bless him for doing that. Cam Newton has never been shy, but put himself out there and opened up his mouth. And unfortunately, if what took place is true that he was talking trash and then they tried to jump him and I don't know, maybe he'll never learn his lesson. I'm not saying he deserved an ass whooping, but there's enough evidence that this guy can push buttons and I don't know. I think at times he is needed to grow up and thank God what took place yesterday was the extent of it. Thank God it wasn't worse because in a lot of cases folks aren't just so quick to throw punches.

People do a lot more violent things that could have much more dire consequences. So Cam Newton, maybe you might want to relax on the camps or maybe you may want to set the standard for how you allow people to interact with you and how you respond back. 855-212-4CBS. 855-212-4CBS. If you have any thoughts on what the hell I just said about Cam Newton or what happened to him, feel free to go ahead and call up. Also, Cam Newton wasn't the only quarterback in the news over the weekend. Cam Newton's not in the league right now, probably won't be back in the league, but there is a guy on a team.

The team probably doesn't want him, but does he want the team? We're gonna talk about Russell Wilson on the other side because he was in the news as well. It's the J.R. Sportbreeze show on CBS Sports Radio. You're listening to the J.R. Sportbreeze on CBS Sports Radio.

It's the J.R. Sportbreeze show here with you on CBS Sports Radio. Listen now, don't let me get you in trouble with your wife. I don't have nothing to do with that. I can't help you out with an excuse, an alibi. I can't help you. If anything, it's a simple solution. Put the free Odyssey app on your phone and you can literally go from your car into the house.

I don't know if your wife wants to listen to me, but hey, I guess it's all about compromise, right? Get some headphones. 855-212-4CBS.

It's 855-212-4CBS. Right before we went to break, we talked about this fight that took place yesterday here in Atlanta, Georgia with Cam Newton. Reportedly, Cam Newton was talking trash at a kid's camp as his students or his athletes participated and they were talking trash and they were going back and forth with each other and then Cam Newton got attacked. You know, we don't know the details. We don't know the truth. I wasn't there.

I can't tell you. Cam Newton didn't walk away seemingly hurt or injured. We haven't got a full statement from him or anybody related to him that I've seen, but allegedly he was talking some trash and they tried to jump him and the police intervened, security intervened before anything got bad or worse and it's just sad and Cam Newton has always been controversial. I'd say he's always been a polarizing, always never shy and sharing his thoughts and his opinions and yesterday, thank God, nothing worse happened at all.

Things could definitely be worse. We don't have to look any further than some of the violence, violent acts that we've seen just here over the country. Just look at the Chiefs and their parade and speaking of violent acts, this was just reported as well. Travis Kelsey's girlfriend, her dad punched a paparazzi in the face.

I just saw this. She's still in Australia and doing her heiress tour, allegedly, reportedly. She got off of a yacht surrounded by security and the paparazzi was there. What a shock and her dad reportedly punched one of these paparazzi camera guys in the face and there you have it. Now when you're Taylor Swift, I guess you can get away with it.

Dad has the money, she has the money. 855-212-4CBS, Paul is here from Rhode Island. What's up, Paul? Hey, thank you for taking my call.

They, you know, told the brothers to take in your call. Listen, here's the deal. Your NFL is changing, okay?

So my home is not gonna win the division. You know, very well. Paul, hold on a sec. Paul, your connection is not good. I'm gonna have to let you go.

Paul sounds like he's calling me from, I don't know, a tin can somewhere. That was just, that's just bad. And the first thing he said is the NFL is changing, my home's isn't gonna win the division. I don't know if I even necessarily want to quote-unquote have that conversation. Do you know something that I don't? Are you just automatically gonna slap the Chargers into the top?

I mean, if something happened, it just, I don't know. Maybe it was a good thing that Paul's connection was, was not good. Anyway, speaking of quarterbacks, not named my home's, not named Cam Newton, Russell Wilson has started or continuing to start his, uh, his Woe is Me tour. Russell Wilson is starting to help paint the picture and the story as to, you know, what his career looks like post Denver Broncos.

We all heard the story. Russell Wilson stood in front of his locker and told everyone that the Broncos requested that he alter and readjust his contract and he declined with good reason because it's not something that would just affect Russell Wilson. This would also set a precedent for future players and active players to rework their deals, especially when they have all this guaranteed money left. And so what was been alleged is that the Denver Broncos took the approach of you adjust your contract or you get benched. And so between Sean Payton, what he said about Russell Wilson when he arrived last year, how the team performed, what Russell Wilson has done, what he said, it looks like Russell Wilson is gonna be out of the door and it looks like the Denver Broncos are gonna eat his salary and that Russell Wilson will have an opportunity to play on a minimum for a competitive team.

Well, Russell Wilson sat down with the I am athlete podcast and he said a few things. I would love to stay in Denver if they have me, even though he put his house up for the market, not to say that they won't buy a new one in Denver. But hey, I think where there's smoke, there's fire. And then he continued on. He's not done yet. Russell Wilson still wants to go out and win no matter where it is.

Listen to this. I got more fire than ever, honestly, especially over the past two years of what I've gone through, whether it's in Denver or somewhere else. I hope it's in Denver. You know, I hope I get to finish there.

I committed there. I wanted to be there. You know, I want to be there for me. It's about winning over the next five years. I want to win, too. I want to feel the chill of that trophy again. You know, I love the city and everything else, but you also want to be a place that wants you to. So the thing that I want to do is win. That's all I care about.

It's like an R and B album listening to Russell Wilson. I like his language. I wanted to be there like it was past tense, and he tried to clean it up. I wanted to be there. I still want to be there.

And now he's in the case of wherever it is, and I just want to win. Well, he's 35 years old. Russell Wilson is going to be 36 years old at the end of this year. Do I think Russell Wilson is done? No, I don't think he's cooked. I still think he can play. Do I think he's the same dude that he was a few years ago?

No, I don't. But I do believe, and I've said this, I think here in Atlanta would be a good spot for him. Not that I care who the Falcons bring in as their next quarterback. I just believe for a young roster that is full of talent, offensive talent that Arthur Smith could not cannot utilize. I think Russell Wilson would be the best and most experienced. You know, is this gonna be the team that now goes back to the Super Bowl and actually wins it?

I'm not going that damn far, but I still believe that Russell Wilson, whenever he exits Denver, would be an ideal fit here in Atlanta with the Kyle Pitts and the Drake London's and to be John Robinson's of the world is all they need is a quarterback. 855 2124. CBS Randall is calling from Oregon. You're on the JR Sport Reef show.

Mhm. Hey, Jr. How are you? What's up? Very well. Good. Every everything's good up here.

A little snow. I just wanted to let you know I like your show. Listen to you a lot. Thank you.

And I had a thought on old Cam there. You know, he's had his troubles over the years, but I think he needs to step aside and talk to himself about how you should treat people and one is one thing I advise is talking to young people. Just tell him to hold on a second.

I'm in front of a crowd. Let me talk to you here in a minute and I'll give you my whole heart and you can tell me what you think. Oh, that's that's very con Randall.

I don't know if the world operates that way, but it'd be nice if it did. Yeah, I know. I'm just trying to help for the long, I guess. Yeah, see, but here's the thing, Randall.

A lot of the I don't want to say issues. A lot of the videos that we've received and we've seen of Cam Newton interacting with campers. This is this has been at at at football camps. These are like seven on seven football camps. It's not like he's going to a high school and he's giving them an inspirational message and the kids are like, boo, you suck. You're a free agent.

You're not going to make money like this is a football camp. So it's already a competitive atmosphere. And then in most case, you know, they're not they're not treating him like, oh, my God, that's an MVP. They're looking at him as someone who is quite frankly, one of the kids said, hey, your ass. They called him ass.

And why is that? You know, what is he giving off? What is he saying? What has he done? Well, he continues to provide ammo for this every time he responds to one of these kids. So I think he needs to do a better job and just all his interactions.

But, hey, not everybody changes, you know, Randall? Yeah, well, hopefully he's listening and maybe he can get the message. Unlikely. Maybe I run into him at his cigar bar here in Atlanta. I'll let him know.

Okay, well, you should one on one. I will, Randall. Thank you for calling from Oregon. All right, thanks. No doubt about it.

No problem. Camp Newton was actually I actually missed him by a few minutes. A couple of weeks ago, a month ago, he was doing a live show here in Atlanta. I was on air, so I couldn't make it.

It's tough. Hey, Hickey, what are your thoughts on, uh, on on cam? And it's just like even in retirement, he's in the midst of something. I mean, obviously we don't know, right?

Like what sparked this in terms of what exactly was said and who was more of an instigator. But I mean, if you're the kids like I mean, Ken Newton, right, is putting this camp on for them, right? Like, isn't this a chance more on this?

I'm mistaken. Is this more of a chance for them to kind of have a platform to show off and get noticed and, you know, be in front of a guy who's won an MVP and knows what it takes. Like, wouldn't you want to be there to learn from cam and how to improve versus trying to one up him and try to fight him? Like, I hope this is not like one of those things where, like kids just have no respect and almost to hate to say this, but this is also a trend to where you're trying to get famous.

And so you're gonna do stupid things. And hey, let's fight Cam Newton because I can now tell all my friends I fought Cam Newton and have it on video. Um, I think just from this, from just looking at the videos that and kids got to learn more respect and realize what cam is doing in terms of giving time. He doesn't have to do that and be more respectful versus trying to be like the cool guy and try to chirp a guy who's accomplished way more than most of these kids will ever accomplish. Yeah, I think in in this regard, just by looking at the grainy video and looking at the statements that were released and eventually we all know cam Newton is going to say something.

It appears to have been between adults. You know, it appears that these were coaches that he's worked with and that they got into it and they got the, they got the beef and they got the scrapping and they attacked him. I don't think cam Newton is someone that's going to initiate or start a fight, not physically, but I think we all know he has no issue with chirping back at someone. Uh, I think he needs to put himself in better positions, especially given, you know, what's happened and you know what they say about respect.

I don't care who you are. And I think in a lot of cases, the way that he's conducted himself, he's put himself out there to get some of these comments back. You know, I see Shannon Sharp. Oh, well, you know, nobody's saying this to the to the Manning's. You know, I've never seen Eli Manning like talk crap to anybody. You know, if anything, he's just all the all shucks, goofy ass guy. Nobody thinking about him and talking trash.

I don't see uh, Peyton Manning or Eli or Drew Brees or any of the people that that he named running around saying, Oh, yeah, well, uh, tell me I suck. I make more money than you. I think a lot of times what you what you put out is what you get back. It's the story of life.

855 2124 CBS 855 2124 CBS. Speaking of getting back what you put out. Yeah, Russell Wilson's looking for his next gig, trying to set himself up for whatever his next contract looks like a minimum somewhere else. There's somebody is gonna be making a lot of money in the NFL.

He doesn't have to do anything but stand around and yell at people. I'll explain. And there is a guy who was in the NFL.

He's not on his way to college. We'll talk about that. We'll get into the combine. 855 2124 CBS is the number. That's 855 2124 CBS.

Mhm. You're listening to the J. R. Sport Brief on CBS Sports Radio. It's the J. R. Sport Reshow here on CBS Sports Radio. Think O'Reilly Auto Parts for all of your car care needs.

You're guaranteed low prices and excellent customer service from the professional parts people at O'Reilly Auto Parts. It is the J. R. Sport Reshow here with you on CBS Sports Radio. Mhm. Right before we went to break, we talked about a cam Newton and what took place here in Atlanta, getting into a scuffle with some of the coaches. The coaches have said that he taunted them and started with them, and we haven't heard from him.

I know we will. Ultimately, we also heard from Russell Wilson. He sat down with the I'm athlete podcast. He talked about how he still wants to be in Denver.

We know that that's unlikely to happen. He also said that he still wants to win at least two more Super Bowl sets. It's kind of an odd number to throw out there. I would just say, Hey, I want to, you know, win more. I want to win the championship again before I go.

But I guess two is a is a nice goal and number that he has in mind. He's 35 years old. First things first, we have to see if he's gonna be on the team. Seems unlikely he's gonna be a Denver Bronco.

And then we have to see what happens as he moves on. But the benefit of adding Russell Wilson is that he's gonna be playing on a minimum contract because the Broncos are gonna eat the majority of his deal. He might be on any team only making, I don't know, two million a year because the Broncos will pay the other, I don't know, 47 of it. So we'll see what happens with Russell Wilson. But speaking of money, we just heard this from Rich Ackerman, someone who does not have to worry about money because he is on his way to receiving a contract extension is someone who is now currently the oldest head coach in the NFL following the dismissals of both Pete Carroll and Bill Belichick.

That happens to be 65 year old Andy Reed. As rich Ackerman just said, there's a lot of talks going on that he will receive a contract extension that will make him the highest paid coach in the NFL. Unlike player salaries, and we got people who say that the players make too much money. Coaches salaries, they're not shared publicly.

You got to do a lot of guesswork. You really got to be in the know to know what a coach makes. But it's been said that half of the NFL's coaches make more than $15 million per year.

And if you take a look at Sean Payton has been reported that he's making close to 18 to 20. And so if you're Andy Reid, after all the success that you've just had with Patrick Mahomes and Kelsey and getting ready for a three Pete. Yeah, why would Andy Reid leave? Why would he retire?

Especially since they are about to pay even more generations of his damn family. Right before we went to the Super Bowl. So many rumors about what Andy Reid was gonna do. Is he gonna leave? Is he gonna stay? This is before the Super Bowl.

He was asked if he would retire after the game. I haven't gone there. I don't think about that. Um, I'm tied up in the game and trying to take care of that. I'm sure somewhere I'll know when that time is.

It's not today or, uh, won't be Sunday. So well, that was before the Super Bowl. We know what took place after the Super Bowl. The Kansas City Chiefs walked away as champions.

And Andy Reid, who's pretty much giving the same comment afterwards. What do you say after the victory? People keep asking me and I keep saying, Why did Kelly check and Pete retired? You know, those guys that they ask those old guys in the question, but I'm the old guy now. So I guess I'm gonna be asked that.

I really haven't gone there. I haven't really thought about it. Why would he go make a lot of money? He has the potential to do more winning, win more championships, climb up the all time coaching wins list.

Like what? Andy Reid is going into Canton. Andy Reid could quit tomorrow and walk away and say, Hey, I'm one of the greatest coaches of all time because he is and why should he walk away right now? And at least his players actually seem to like him. When Belicheck was winning, who was showing him love and praise?

Very few people. I know the McCordy's loved him. At least Devin did.

Excuse me. Yeah, Devin. Anyway, who loves Andy Reid? Travis Kelsey loves him, even though he pushed him in the Super Bowl. Listen to Kelsey. I mean, I've been here 13 years with him, and he's never got off track.

This has been a constant incline of, uh, of greatness. Him overlooking my career, helping me out both on and off the field as a professional as a human being. And I owe so much to him and his success and or in our success and just extremely, extremely fortunate that Atlanta here in Kansas City. Oh, yeah, that's the that's the normal version of Travis Kelsey, the one who's not screaming and yelling. Somebody who, as an overall, seems to be a little bit more even keeled and level headed is Patrick Mahomes and Patrick Mahomes.

I mean, they like peanut butter and jelly. He had high praise for his coach. I mean, he's one of the best coaches of all time. I believe he's the best coach of all time.

I mean, I know he didn't have the trophies yet, and I have a lot of respect for some of those great coaches. But the way he's able to navigate every single team he has, um, continue to have success no matter where he's at on it for me, he brings up the best of me because he lets me be me. I think that's that's important is he doesn't try to make me anyone else. I don't think I'd be the quarterback that I am if I didn't have Coach Reed being my head coach.

Um, and and other than that, he wants to be the best person you can be. And that's something that I think is truly special. Yeah, I mean, Andy reads accomplishments.

It reads like an encyclopedia at this point. When it comes to regular season wins, he's only behind Don Shula, George Hallis and Bill Belichick. If you want to think about combined wins between the regular season and postseason, Shula, Belichick, Hallis, he's right there in the mix of the greats, the best. And then when you think about his his his work between the NFC and the AFC, between the Eagles and the Chiefs, only due to have 100 wins between both. If you think about 25 years, he's been a head coach, three Super Bowl championships, five conference championships, 14 division titles. This man wins, wins, wins. And I guess it took for him to be 65 to finally make the big, big, big bucks.

He's gonna jump to the front of the line. And as you just heard, the players love him. They like him. Got no issue throwing down praise on Andy Reid and for Andy Reid. Ironically, Andy Reid wasn't the only coach in the news today or anyone related to the Kansas City Chiefs. There was a lot of talk over the past month as the NFL regular season wound down as we got into the postseason about head coaches, people coming, people going.

You just heard Andy Reid referenced the older guys who are gone, Bill Belichick, Pete Carroll. Somebody else who finished up this past season still hasn't gotten his head coaching shot or opportunity is Eric Bienemy. And Eric Bienemy, as we know him, he was gonna be gone in Washington.

He was hired with a prior regime. Josh Harris comes on and comes on the board. And now the Washington commanders Ron Rivera is out. Eric Bienemy is out. Dan Quinn is in and Eric Bienemy, his next stop. Well, listen to this breaking news from earlier via CBS Sports HQ. We've got breaking news out of college football where former commanders offensive coordinator Aaron Bienemy is headed to UCLA to take over as the Bruins associate head coach in OC.

That's the latest from our Josina Anderson. The move comes just one year after he bolted from Kansas City to Washington after five years with the Chiefs. Bienemy told our Josina Anderson that he chose to fly under the radar during the hiring process as he was also interviewing for NFL OC jobs. Bienemy last coached college football in 2012 when he was an offensive coordinator at his alma mater, Colorado. And he spent time at UCLA as a running back running backs coach. And then let's let's also be real. Is this the closest that he's going to get to helping to run a program?

We discussed this a couple weeks ago. Deshaun Foster is the new head coach after Mr. Kelly decided to just exit stage left and go to Ohio State. And so eric Bienemy, I'm not going to say he's he's going backwards because he is, but he's going to have more influence here on this program with someone who doesn't have a hell of a lot of head coaching experience. A matter of fact, foster has none. The last time I heard about Deshaun Foster, they were handing him the ball in the NFL and that's been quite quite a while. So eric Bienemy not getting that chance to be a head coach. I'm going to be honest at this stage, is it ever going to happen?

Probably not. He is going to exert a lot of influence on the program at U. C. L. A. And that's probably one of the reasons that he decided to go out and take the job. Andy Reid getting paid. I know there were a lot of talks about, oh my God eric Bienemy, is he going to return to Kansas City? Uh no, he's going back to Southern California and Andy Reid is going to move forward with the highest being the highest paid head coach in the NFL.

855 2124 CBS is 855 2124 CBS. We're going to take a break. When we come back on the other side of the break, we're going to continue talking NFL in college. We know the NFL combine is starting off this week.

All of the big talents. Well, most of them, most of them are going to be heading out to Indianapolis to and try or try to improve their draft stock and status. And we got some superstars moving on from college that want to go to the NFL.

They're not even going to bother. But there's so many conversations about players not showing up for the combine thinking that they don't need to prove anything. Well, they're not the only ones who don't have interest in the combine. So is the NFL combine becoming a waste of time? Who's it good for? Who's it not good for? Is it just a joke? Is the NFL manufacturing this just so you can watch it so I can talk about it?

Well, that's that's for sure. But who's it good for? We're going to get into it. It's the JR sport re show here with you on CBS Sports Radio.
