You're listening to the JR Sport Brief on CBS Sports Radio. Welcome to the JR Sport Brief. I'm your host, Atlanta, Georgia, super producer and host, Dave Shepherd.

He is coming to us live from New York City, holding it down on the boards. We appreciate you. We'll be hanging out for one more hour.

We get started every single weeknight, 10 p.m. Eastern, 7 Pacific. We've had a busy day and a busy night. Wild Card Wednesday in Major League Baseball. Sweep, sweep, sweep, sweep. The Rangers sweep the Rays. The Twins sweep the Blue Jays. The Diamondbacks sweep the Brewers. The Phillies sweep the Marlins. And yeah, if you want to consider beating somebody two consecutive games of sweep, then that's fine.

I prefer three games, but it is what it is. Wild Card is over. The next games will take place on Saturday in the divisional round and then we'll see what takes place.

I like this. Saturday, the Rangers get going against the Orioles. The Twins get going against the Astros. So Carlos Correa is going to take on his former team.

That should be a fun storyline. The young Diamondbacks are going to take on the Dodgers and then the Phillies are going to take on the Braves. Phillies eliminated the Braves from the postseason last year.

The year before that, the Braves go to the World Series and win. And so that should be a good one as well. We've had a busy day, a busy night. We talked about some of the NFL coaches on the hot seat. Matt Eberfluss from the Chicago Bears. I don't know why.

Well, I can understand why, but I don't agree with it. We got a lot of Steeler fans upset at Mike Tomlin. I think as the season goes on, we're going to hear more about Bill Belichick. Probably the Patriots needing to move on from him.

Busy, busy night. James Harden showed up to work. How long is that going to last before he throws somebody under the bus? Drew Holiday showed up for the Boston Celtics, his new teammates with Porzingis and Tatum and Brown. And then we heard from Marshawn Lynch. And about how he had, I assume still has, no relationship with Pete Carroll and Russell Wilson. This is what Marshawn Lynch told Shannon Sharp.

He's like, man, I have no relationship with those dudes. And it prompted us tonight to share with you a top six list. To look at some of the best athlete hosted podcasts. I'm not talking about, you know, just any podcast about sports. Don't give a damn about that.

I'm talking about athlete driven. Shannon Sharp getting this information and story out of Marshawn. A matter of fact, here he is. Marshawn Lynch on Shannon Sharp's podcast, letting everybody know, hey, I ain't messing with Russell Wilson. Russell Wilson didn't even mess with me.

Listen to this. I wouldn't be the right person to speak on their relationship because I didn't, like, I didn't, I didn't, you feel what I'm saying? So you didn't mess with who? I didn't with Pete.

And then, I mean, you know, Russ was like, there's a quarterback for me. Right. I mean, so it wasn't as, you didn't have no relationship. You didn't have no kind of relationship. Y'all didn't like go to a, go, go to a party. Y'all didn't get together. Y'all didn't do it.

Y'all didn't kick it like that. I mean, I mean, I mean. Yeah. Well, his face, you can't see his face. Obviously this is the radio. His face said it all. Marshawn Lynch looked at him like, man, we ain't have no type of relationship.

None, none at all. And then he even told more of a story about how Russell Wilson, you know, didn't even provide or would give him his cell phone. You had to talk to the equipment manager and the equipment manager wouldn't give Russell's number. And Russell called him and, but he called him from a blocked number.

It's like, man, why are you so complicated, bro? Marshawn Lynch is going to give you a number out. Marshawn Lynch is going to start prank calling you like, come on, get over it. Anyway, Brandon Marshall is someone else who has a podcast. Hey Shep, I remember they started that podcast and what was it? It wasn't the pivot.

It turned into the, no, they split up. What was it? What was that called? There's so many of them now. The one with Brandon Marshall and yeah, but I know exactly what you're talking about. He was with Ryan Clark and then they didn't have the ideas and then they were like, let's split up.

They did a great job too. But anyway, hey, Brandon Marshall actually, he spoke today and he was just like. I'm an athlete. Yes. I am athlete.

I am athlete. That's true. Yeah. Brandon Marshall spoke and he was actually saying, hey, well, if you guys didn't treat Russell so bad, he didn't have to be like that, but I don't agree. Let's know what Brandon Marshall said. It's like, think about all these people that standing up saying, well, Russell Wilson is I play with him.

Russell Wilson that these are guys that every day was totally disrespectful to Russell Wilson. And so now he built a border around himself to like protect himself in that environment. And now in the Legion of Boomer is gone. Now he can, he can morph and evolve into the leader. Now I'm the guy. And so I say that because I feel like, you know, there came a time where he had to figure out how to survive in that locker room.

And then once those guys was gone, it's like, okay, now who am I the leader? So I just think there's more to it of why Russell Wilson moved the way he moved. Oh, stop it, man. Russell Wilson is a grown man. He don't need no excuses. He's trying to get him on his podcast.

He's knows what he's doing. But Russell Wilson ain't going on no podcast. Brandon Marshall thinks he is. Oh yeah, right.

Possibly. Come on. Like Russell Wilson's a grown ass man. Marshawn Lynch talking about how he couldn't even talk to him if he had something to address in practice or film, et cetera. He had to go to a coach. The players were instructed, don't go talk to Russell Wilson directly. You have to talk to the coaches first. And then the coaches can then share that message. What are we talking about?

Like, is he, is he that soft? And the stories don't stop in Seattle. We heard the separation stories in Denver. What does it have to do with Seattle? Nothing. And so I'm sorry, Brandon.

There's no, no excuse for that. What was he so shell shocked by the Legion of boom that he became reticent and crawled into his shell and needed to be protected for the rest of his career. Like, come on, man, a grown man. And so Marshawn Lynch spoke something that he doesn't typically do. And he did it with Shannon Sharp. And so sometimes in some cases, a lot of cases, we get great stories when the athletes just, you know, shoot the, you know, what amongst themselves.

And in a lot of cases, they say a whole lot of nothing. And so I gave you a top six list of athlete podcasts that I enjoy. And so at number six, I gave you knuckleheads with Quentin Richardson and Darius Miles talking to everyone from Cheryl Miller to Derek Jeter to yes, even Kobe Bryant before he passed away for you English aficionados. I spoke to talked about Paul George.

Great host. Paul George could sit down and be Geraldo if he wanted to. And then before I gave you all the smoke with Matt Barnes and Steven Jackson, basketball players that'll punch you in the face.

And number three, I gave you Mike Tyson. Yeah, Mike Tyson has a podcast, he gets high. And he does interviews.

I wish I was joking. I don't know if Mike Tyson is high right now. But uh, I'd be deathly afraid of the man if I were in front of him. And he was talking like this. Listen. I know the art of fight. I know the art of war.

That's all I ever studied. That's why I'm so feared. That's why they feared me when I was in the ring. Because that's all my I was annihilated. So I was born for. Now those things are gone.

It's empty. I'm nothing. I'm working on being the art of humbleness. Can you be with me? That's the reason why I'm crying because I'm not that person no more. And I miss him. Because sometimes I feel like a because I don't want to. I don't want that person to come out because he comes out. Hell is coming with him.

And it's not funny at all. Sound cool. Like I'm a tough guy. It's just that he think I'm scared of him. Listen, if Mike Tyson is afraid of himself, I'm afraid of him too. I had Mike Tyson number three here. Top six athlete podcasts. Number two, we just talked about Shannon Sharp, Club Shay Shay.

And number one, I gave you Draymond Green. I mean, who the hell else is playing at the highest level in the NBA Finals and is doing podcasts after games? Even if he sucks, he's saying that he sucks. And then I also love the fact that he's not just telling the truth on himself. He's even killing guys like Dylan Brooks. I loved when he said this.

Listen to this. If you ever wondered why the Memphis Grizzlies is not ready to compete for a championship, look no further than this idiot right here. They're actually depending on this guy to help them win a championship.

And he says his game is cool. Quite frankly, that just shows how little you know about basketball. And yet y'all, you running around talking about dynasty. The dynasty starts after you.

Not with you. I guess Draymond was right. Memphis Grizzlies didn't want this guy no more. Now he's playing for the Houston Rockets. This is amazing.

This is what you get in 2023. This is almost like if Gary Payton had a podcast in 1996. Oh my God. And I know Gary Payton.

And I talked him in the conversations with him behind the scenes. Oh my God. Gary Payton and Kevin Garnett together. No thanks. No thanks. I don't. Oh my God. That'd be a mess, Shep.

One or the other. And I think Kevin Garnett has his own podcast with Showtime. Just like Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson. To be honest, I don't listen to Kevin Garnett. No, he's too much.

I can listen to him in bits and pieces. He's just too much for me. I think TNT felt the same way. I mean, they don't get rid of a lot of guys. And I think they got rid of Chris Webber, who's really good just because he got a little too political, I think, in their eyes. But TNT doesn't get rid of a lot of guys.

So for them to get rid of Kevin Garnett, a big name like that, after just three years, you're right. Area, what do you call it? Area 21?

Area 21, right. And they had to have a cuss button. And I thought that was demeaning to Kevin Garnett. Because I think he's actually a very well-spoken, intelligent human being. But he was trying to play this character that they were trying to make him out to be early on in his media career. No, I mean, that's how he is, though.

I don't think he's trying to play nothing, man. But you've seen him sit down with John Thompson, the late, great John Thompson. You've seen how well-spoken he is. It's not a matter of whether he can be well-spoken or not.

That's in one setting versus another. In most settings, in the casual sense, he's loose, man. He ain't got no problem saying whatever comes to his mind.

And that's good and great, but sometimes it's like, damn, bro, just tell me how you really feel. He did that. How he played and how he spoke as a player really ain't no different than how he is in front of the camera. JR, is there a more famous, and I know Richard Sherman, your good friend had one with Aaron Andrews. Is there a more famous post-game commentary than Kevin Garnett in 2008 with Michelle Tafoya? Oh, what did he say? Anything is possible.

Anything is possible. And then he shouted out everybody and he broke down. Joe Namath doesn't count with All-Star. Was that Michelle Tafoya?

No, right? That was Susie Culver. And that was a sideline interview because the Jets suck that year.

I want to kiss you. I don't care about the game. That was a sideline interview, the middle of the game. And you could, I mean, if they had interviews back then, you know, Broadway Joe didn't just have to stick up the number one figure running to the tunnel, but Joe, he would have said something worthwhile. Joe Namath needs a podcast today. With Zach Wilson.

No, not with Zach. Joe Namath needs a podcast today so he can diss all the quarterbacks. He also needs an apology tour because I didn't hear him apologize to Zach Wilson on the Michael K show a week following his comments. He gave his opinion after one game. But he was, but he was wrong, JR. He was wrong. It's one game. He could be very, he could be right in the grand scheme of things.

JR, you, you said it. Patrick Holmes has been a starter now for six years in the NFL. There is one guy to have more passing yards, more passing touchdowns, less interceptions, and a better passing completion percentage than Patrick Holmes in the history of Patrick's NFL career.

That's Zach Wilson. That wasn't just one good game. Uh, it was, it didn't matter who it was against. He had one good game. I hope he has more good games. I hope that Joe Namath is ultimately wrong, but Joe Namath ain't say nothing, ain't say nothing wrong.

He said in his opinion, he has seen enough and he's sick of them. And I think it's not about, Oh my God, he can have a good game. I don't think Joe Namath would disagree with the fact that Zach Wilson could have a good game or that he doesn't have talent. That's not what he said. He said he's seen enough of him and that, you know, as a New York Jets QB, he don't think he has it. And so it was one game and he got, I don't know what he played four games. He has 13 more in front of him and I'm sure he'll have another good game. Is he going to have enough of them?

Let's see. They should do a podcast with Paul Bissonnette and Wayne Gretzky and make it at one in the morning. Why? Because they want to go to sleep. Has nothing to do with wanting to be up at 12 one in the morning. He was miserable during the hockey telecast for the playoffs. He was, he did not want to be there after 11 o'clock. And it was hilarious because Wayne Gretzky was very honest and transparent about that actually during the broadcast.

Yeah. Wayne Gretzky doesn't like hockey. He wants to go home and knit at this point in life.

It's just what he wants to do. 855-212-4CBS. That's 855-212-4CBS. We're talking about the best athlete driven podcast. Let's go to Meech. He's calling from Cleveland. You're on CBS Sports Radio.

Go ahead, Meech. JR, what's going on? How you doing, man? Good, man. What's up? What's up, man? Hey, I want to say I got a menu of sports podcasts. I was.

No, no, no, no, no, Meech, Meech, Meech. No, I'm about to, I'm about to, I'm about to let you know. I'm about to tell you.

Well, no, wait, wait, wait. I need to preface this because we got a lot of callers that have been waiting very patiently. Okay.

I got you. What is that number one athlete driven podcast? The number one athlete driven podcast is it is what it is.

And I'm going to tell you. That is not athlete driven. Who's the athlete? Cam.

No, no, no, no, no, no. He ain't playing college. He didn't play in, and no man, we talking about professionals. He played JUCO.

He did. And then they also have OJ. Hold on, hold on.

They got OJ. No, no, no, no, wait, wait, Meech. All right, go ahead. Go ahead. That is a podcast driven by two dudes from Harlem that played basketball. Hold on. Yeah.

I'm talking, let's hold on. I'm talking about guys like Travis Kelsey, Draymond Green, Shannon Sharp, Mike Tyson, but these guys played in the pros, man. I know Cam'ron played in Harlem.

I know that because I grew up in New York. Okay, but I wouldn't, I'm not talking about them right now. I know they're funny and they, they make pause jokes and all types of other things, but nah. But I was trying to, I was trying to incorporate the fact to hear from, from voices like Maurice Claret from the, from the college football perspective, OJ Simpson, even Antonio Brown, wacky self. You know what I'm saying?

You know what I'm saying? Those are their guests, man. They ain't the hosts. I'm talking about the hosts. All right, cool. I'm sorry.

If we were talking about rappers who had podcasts and then, yeah, I guess we could, but I'm talking about like, like pro athletes, man. Okay. I know he, I saw him with my own eyes.

I saw him, but thank you Meech. All right. All right, cool. No doubt.

Yeah. He decided to rap about selling drugs and other things. 855-212-4CBS. Tim is from Portland. You're on the JR Sportbreeze show. What's up, Tim?

Hey, what's going on, JR? I, first of all, great list, man. I either agree or I want to hear the shows that I haven't heard, but I, there's one other one that I wanted to mention. Mookie Betts has got a great podcast where he, he goes on the road and will typically interview a player of color from the other team. Really, really funny interviews.

I think just because of his naturally approachable personality tends to get a good interview out of people and they're at ease and willing to be funny. Why? You know what? It's relatively new. He started it this year, didn't he? He did. Yeah.

This is the first year. I would recommend anybody listen to the Kike Hernandez one for a particularly good baseball story. We'll get the Kike in a minute.

Okay. Why do I feel like every episode of Mookie Betts podcast, I'm looking at Julio Rodriguez. I mean, who else has he sat down with? Jazz Chisholm. I think, I believe Trout.

Sorry, I'm cooking food while I talk to you. Mike Trout. Mike Trout did a podcast instead of playing? He did, man. He did.

He found time for a sit down. But yeah, man, just a good group of guys for the most part. You said Kike? You said Kike Hernandez has a podcast too? No, Kike was on Mookie's and they went into a particularly funny story about a particularly funny accident and I'll just leave it at that. It involved number two? It did indeed.

I think I heard that story. I'll let people Google Mookie Betts Kike number two. I'll let people do that on their own, okay? Yeah, definitely. Hey JR, can I go off script for about 15 seconds real quick?

You got 15, go ahead. I love you. I love Shep. I can't do this without the two of you guys. I think of us as a three-man team.

We may have to have an intervention for Shep. There's no possible way, like I actually was a little bit nervous for his safety when he was talking about Mike Tyson. I'm of the age, you know, we actually remember.

Unless you're a certain age, you actually might not appreciate this. Tim, I'm in my late 30s. I remember Tyson losing to Douglas.

I remember him versus Lennox and Holyfield. I'm well aware of the guy's history. Okay, fair enough. I appreciate where you're coming from, but I know what I said and I say what I mean.

You know I love what you said and I love the chutzpah, but it gave me a mini heart attack at first. So you sound too young for a mini heart attack, Tim. I'm 53.

You sound younger than that. Appreciate it, man. I'm cooking burgers too right now, professionally. Anyway, thank you guys so much for letting me on the air. Hey Tim, what's the restaurant?

I need to see you when I get to Portland. I need to eat, man. You want to tell us what it is?

No, bad idea. Tell Shep. Tell Shep and then tell me, okay? Okay, will do. All right, thank you, Tim. Yeah, I don't need Tim getting yoked up in a burger place and then blaming me later.

We'll find out where the burger place is and I'll go eat there. It's the JR Sport Brief Show here on CBS Sports Radio 855-2124 CBS. I'm going to get some more of your calls on the other side of the break. We're talking about the best athlete-driven podcasts. Yeah, guys who play professionally here on CBS Sports Radio.

Don't move. You're listening to the JR Sport Brief on CBS Sports Radio. You're listening to the JR Sport Brief on CBS Sports Radio. Longtime listener, huge fan. Oh my God. I'm so fiber gassed that I even got on.

I'm always driving home from work when I hear you. I just want to call and talk about the game tonight. You're listening to the JR Sport Brief.

Call in now at 855-212-4CBS. It is the JR Sport Brief Show on CBS Sports Radio. Not every athlete needs a podcast to get their thoughts out. I mean, we talked about this game the other night. New York Giants getting smacked around by the Seattle Seahawks. The offensive line being terrible.

Offensive lineman Evan Neal. Initially after the game, he said, yeah, we as an offensive line need to do better. But more recently, during an interview with New Jersey Advanced Media, he basically said that, hey, the fans booing us. He told them to boo louder sarcastically. And then he pretty much said, why are you the fans booing us if you want us to win? He said, why would a lion concern himself with the opinion of a sheep? He's talking about the Giants fans. He said, the person that's commenting on my performance, what does he do?

Flip hot dogs and hamburgers somewhere? I'm like, wow. What a way to ingratiate yourself to the fans.

That is just terrible. He later went on Twitter. He said, sorry tonight. I am wrong for lashing out at the fans who are just as passionate and frustrated as I am. I let my frustrations in my play and desire to win get the best of me. I had no right to make light of anyone's job. And I deeply regret the things I said.

We are working day in and day out to grow as a team. And this was an unnecessary distraction. I apologize. You can apologize, brother. Fans ain't gonna forget that. Every time you give up a sack or man, you don't do that.

It's sometimes too sensitive. See, not every athlete needs a podcast. A traditional interview will allow them to put their own foot in their mouth. 855-212-4CBS. We're talking about the best athlete-driven podcasts. Let's go ahead and talk to Tim from Nova Scotia. You're on CBS Sports Radio. Hi, Jerry.

Thanks a lot for taking my call there tonight. Sure. First, I want to start off by saying, Shep, please don't step in the ring with Mike Tyson. That would be like throwing a goat at a T-Rex in a Jurassic Park film.

You are the goat and Mike Tyson is the T-Rex. Anyways, talking about podcasts there and sports podcasts. Podcasts I want to talk about actually had a... I didn't like your one to six podcast there. Okay, what is yours?

Go ahead. Podcasts I'm talking about actually had a recourse on the sport it was talking about, which is hockey. Podcasts I'm talking about is Spitting Ticklets. Okay, I've heard of it. They got a coach, Mike Babcock, they're fired from Columbus.

Just signed a tier deal for 8-0. I don't know if you heard about it, but he was making kids. He was literally making kids look at their phones. He was like, give me your phone.

Looking at the pictures on the phone and Spitting Ticklets got that. They aired it. NHL did their background checks.

Babs, you can't be doing that. They got rid of them. It's the only podcast, but you didn't even mention it, that actually had a positive recourse.

So I guess my question is J.R., sorry, it's a long-winded question. Sorry, buddy. Why didn't you mention Spitting Ticklets in your one to six podcast for sports? Because I would say the majority of our listeners don't necessarily have a full interest in hockey. That's what I was thinking, dude. Honest to God, I was like, I know the numbers, I know the numbers. Yeah, do you listen to the show?

Yeah, all the time. About the only time we're going to mention hockey is during the Stanley Cup Finals. Yeah, there you go, Sam. Well, thank you for calling from Nova Scotia.

In all honesty though, it did have a positive. I'm glad, I'm glad, but I got to get to some more callers. You were talking about long-winded. You have a good night. Thanks for taking my call. Cheers, God bless.

No doubt, thank you. Like, yeah, I mean, you know you're long-winded. Let's, let's keep it rolling here. Sorry. 855-212-4CBS, Keyon is calling from Chicago. Go ahead, Keyon.

Yo, what up, J.R.? Uh, it's Keyon. No Chill, Keyon. Keyon, I can't hear you, man.

Try again. I, I said, what's up, J.R.? I said, No Chill is the best podcast out right now. Oh, with Gilbert Arenas?

Yes. Oh my, he's, he's too, a little too loose for me. I know he had a conversation with Zion, but he's too much. He's too, he's smart, but he's just, he's like, how old is Gilbert Arenas? Like 40 something?

Like 38. He's only 82. He just, he probably, he's uh, he's 41. Yeah, he's 40. He, he, to me, listening to Gilbert Arenas most times, when he's not acting intelligent, which he is, I feel like I'm listening to, uh, a 13 year old who just realized what, I don't know.

It's just, at times he's too immature for me. I can't do it. Yeah, I feel you, buddy. Yeah.

Being the number two is Podcast P. Okay. All right. Well, thank you, Keyon. Appreciate you. All right. Y'all have a good night.

You too. Joe's calling from Miami. You're on CBS Sports Radio. What's up, Joe? J.R. What's up? I apologize. I don't have a favorite athlete driven podcast.

That's what you're calling for? Well, I only listen to you guys, so I don't listen to podcasts, but I'm calling to take up for you, J.R. I didn't appreciate that guy who called with the before his death comments, before he died. Oh, the school teacher who wanted to, uh, hey, look, I actually, uh, well, I got a degree in, in, in business and marketing, man. I've studied English. If anybody can or can't tell, I've studied language diction in English.

Okay. And so when I sit here for four hours, I ain't sitting around teaching a class. I'm a, I'm a shoot the, you know what?

So look, he was a school teacher. What are we supposed to do? Right?

I couldn't agree more. I listen to you all the time. And who is he to call and call? And who is he to call and point out a mistake?

Even if you did make one, um, and you do a show for hours every night for five days a week, you're entitled to make a mistake. But I would say this by saying before he died, I think it gives it's not redundant because you're referencing that this occurred somewhat prior to his death and not early on in his career. So I would say it's not redundant at all. Well, I didn't, I didn't, I didn't find it to be redundant. My point in saying it was to, to make a point of emphasis that, Hey, the Kobe Bryant didn't, well, obviously this took place before his death. It was a point of emphasis to say that this is something that they were able to do. I'm highlighting them in the fact that they spoke to Kobe.

Kobe didn't run around doing a whole lot of shows and such. So yeah, of course we know he's not here anymore, but it was more so a point of emphasis, but Hey, he's a school teacher. Now what they do, they pick you apart.

They do. I mean, he probably, uh, he didn't give enough people an F tonight. So he needed to call me and tell me how bad my English was. Agreed. And thanks to you and Jeff for all you guys do. Oh, well, thank you, Joe. We appreciate it. We love you in Miami. Well, thank you. I love you in Miami too.

I love, uh, Ocean and all them other places that charge too much money for me to eat. They sure do. Thank you, Joe. Be safe. Okay. All right guys, have a great night.

No doubt about it. It's the JR sport reshow here on CBS sports radio. Hey Kevin, I know you, uh, speaking of speedy Claxton, do you have a favorite athlete podcast? Well, my favorite athlete podcast is a recently retired athlete podcast.

Does that still count? JJ Redick's podcast, the old man and the three old man and a three. Yeah.

Hey, he's a, he does that out of Brooklyn, doesn't he? Yep. I was listening on the right here to, uh, on the right here tonight. Did you, who, who was the guest? Was there a guest? He had a Andre Iguodala and Evan Turner on.

It was a good list from a week or two ago. He's not on the team right now. I think he has his own podcast too.

He does. Everybody has a podcast. The NBA players I think are, are dominating the podcast space. We didn't even talk about a guy that's still active. That definitely has a podcast and many people consider him to be LeBron's greatest rival.

That's a great point. He's had a podcast for like three, four years now. Nope, but no one ever talks about it.

Who is it? Uh, the ETC, the, uh, et cetera, et cetera. Well, it's Durant. Um, right. It's called like, yeah, he still does. Yes, he definitely still does it. Yes. With him and rich climbing. I don't know who he does it with is rich climbing.

Which climate is his manager was agent, right? Yeah. You were a business partner. Okay. But there's someone else he does it with. I'm like Joe something. I don't know.

Does that sound familiar? See, that's the point. Well, so you can be an all time great player, but if you don't have the right sponsorship, if you don't have the right platform, you can still not really be that relevant. And he's not as relevant as the other guys that do this. But see, there's this, that's why I had Draymond green number one, like there's Draymond green.

And then it's like everybody else. Like Kevin Durant, I don't think is all that invested in fair. I'm going to sit down like he don't care, but, but, but, you know, but with Dexter was saying is, is, is spot on JJ Reddick breaks a lot of news on that podcast.

Now he's a former player. We get that, but he breaks a lot of stories on that podcast. Yeah. I don't listen. I, I wait until in most cases, a lot of these podcasts, like I told you, even the ones that I named like every now and then I'll pop it in. Oh, I want to listen to this. Like I'll probably listen to Cheryl Miller with Steven Jackson and Matt Barnes. But most of the times, like I'm hearing what goes viral. Like I'm not, and here's a dirty secret. A lot of the podcasts, it may not be a secret, but most people aren't listening to the whole thing. Like people are seeing what goes up on YouTube or X or Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, what have you, the, the, the, the clips that go viral, get more attention than the actual full show. So you think that let's go gets as most as they can out of letter Fitzgerald and Tom Brady. Is that really a pod? I know that it's a podcast.

I find that to be more of a serious exemption that gets repackaged. Got it. And I mean, who's listening to, I mean, we played a clips from Tom Brady. Do we care what he's, what else is he saying for 30 minutes? Well, we, we, we understand that and you understand this very well. There are certain names, Brady, LeBron, tiger, that no matter how far we get removed from those guys' careers, and you can make an argument, even though tiger is still active, we're very much removed from his career being tiger. They're always going to be relevant. So we, we, so, but just by that definition alone, Tom Brady is going to have a popular podcast.

We're always going to have to play him. I don't, I don't know if it's pop. My point is, I know it exists. I don't know if it's popular by what it's pretty pop because he's Tom Brady. He could, but what, what metric would you say is when I think about popular, I'm thinking about people going, Oh my God, what was said and what happened? Well, because, because he's Tom Brady, he's got over 3 million followers on Twitter.

He's probably got close to, he's got at least 10 million on Instagram. And so by that alone, by that metric, you talk about views, you talk about likes, you talk about comments because he's got such a big, it's like, okay, I look, I know there's a lot of people that are not big fans of this guy, but Stephen A. Smith has such a big presence on his podcast because he already had a huge platform to begin with. But I'm talking about nobody is waking up going, Oh my God, I need to subscribe to Tom Brady's podcast.

He's not saying anything of relevance. I mean, especially now that he's not playing like that ship has sailed. A lot of, a lot of the key points that he has ever made on his podcast have been about his career. Well now he's done, he ain't playing.

And so when I talk about popularity, yes, we can look at, at social media stats and numbers of metrics. If I'm just flat talking about what's hot, Tom Brady's podcast ain't hot. He's sitting around with an old Jim gray and it's just like, what are they saying? What did they say this week, Shep?

You're asking the wrong guy, JR. I don't listen to that. My point exactly. If there was something worthwhile that was coming out of it, we would have heard about it. Then we would know, but we don't listen to it.

I get that point too. And it's not even listen. You wouldn't have to listen.

You wouldn't know about it. Last week, the biggest thing out of Tom Brady's podcast or two weeks ago, it's Tom Brady saying, man, I ain't thinking about playing for no jets. Okay. And that was it. What else came out of that podcast?

Nothing. And that was two weeks ago. When it's going to be relevant again is when the conversation becomes can Patrick Mahomes, after three Super Bowls, start making a case to be the greatest of all time. That's when that podcast is going to be more relevant. Let's wait a few years when he's no longer doing it. But it's not hot.

It exists because it's Tom Brady, but it ain't, it ain't nothing hot. You're listening to the JR Sport Brief on CBS Sports Radio. You're listening to the JR Sport Brief on CBS Sports Radio. JR, how are you? You are amazing. You should be called a sports professor. Anybody ever call you that? Call in now at 855-212-4CBS. No, no, they haven't. But thank you.

Your first time for everything. It's the JR Sport Brief Show here on CBS Sports Radio. We've been talking about athlete podcasts and we're back tomorrow. We're going to be talking Thursday Night Football. The commanders are going to be taking on the Chicago Bears. Let's see if the Bears can actually pick up a victory.

We'll find out and we'll know that sooner than later. I do want to get to your calls. We got a lot of people here on the line as we talk about some of the best athlete-driven podcasts. And so let's finish up.

I told you number one for me is Draymond Green. Let's go to Ruben from Atlanta. You're on CBS Sports Radio. Go ahead, Ruben. Go ahead. Quickly. All right. Quickly, mine are the ones I have.

I agree with you, except I play club, Shayshae at number one for me, especially since he has the nightcap now with Chad Johnson. That is always last after game night. And I also got just two more. One more is good.

We got a lot of people here. Okay. Okay.

Yeah, no problem. The Iman Amongst Men, Iman Shumpert. Iman has a podcast too? Yes. It's called Iman Amongst Men. That's definitely worth checking out.

Okay. I've seen him talking. I didn't know it was his own podcast. How long has this been out? I started seeing it earlier this year. The first one I saw was him and J.R. Smith, and that was a good one. And then I just continued to watch.

But yeah, that's actually one worth checking. Well, thank you, Ruben. Appreciate you, man. Be safe. No problem.

You too. Wow. Iman Shumpert, did you know Iman Shumpert had a podcast? I know he's a really good talker. I didn't know he had a podcast though.

I didn't either. I thought every time I saw him, he was a guest on somebody else's. Chris is calling from Jacksonville. Go ahead, Chris. Hey, J.R. I don't know if anybody said this yet, but mine is going to be the Kelsey brothers.

And to put it into perspective, I'm a Jaguars fan, so obviously I'm not a Chiefs fan, and I'm also a Cowboys fan, so I'm definitely not an Eagles fan. But just listening to them banter back and forth, it sounds like just what you imagine. Two brothers just talking about mundane things and making it fun, like whether or not Waffle House is a diner or not, to the most quotable movie lines, to a certain Kelsey brothers relationship. Which, by the way, there's a picture on social media of her being the next cover model for Madden, which is hysterical. That would be funny, Chris. I'm going to look that one up.

No, we actually played some audio from the Kelsey brothers earlier on in the show and talked about them complaining about all the attention that Taylor Swift now gets. Alan is calling from Cleveland. Go ahead, Alan, quickly. First time caller, man. First time listening.

The list is on point, but I have to say for me, I would add the pivot. The pivot in there, because those three guys, they dig into deep stories with different athletes among all type of sports. So check them out.

I'm sure you'll get something out of it. Oh, I listen. Well, I do listen. One of my favorite conversations they had was with Mike Tomlin. I absolutely love that. Thank you, Alan, for calling from Cleveland. Mac from San Diego.

Go ahead, Mac. You get the last word. Oh, man. He had just took my, I was about to say the pivot, man. But I really wish that I am an athlete, didn't break up. That was my all time favorite.

I am an athlete. They did NASCAR drivers and everything else. So what's the new thing that Brandon Marshall, what is the new one called?

I'm not sure. I haven't even looked at it, to be honest. But the main two I go to is the pivot and also Nightcap with Shannon Sharpton and Chad Johnson.

That'd be funny, man. Thank you, Mac. Appreciate you.

I'm going to check them out. Yep. All right. No doubt about it.

Hey, Shup, we got a lot of stuff to listen to. Yeah. I'm not seeing anything new for Brandon Marshall outside of the I am an athlete, which obviously he did originally with the Ryan Clark. Yeah. I thought they split up and I still know that the pivot goes, but I thought that I am athlete ended and the pivot was the new thing. Brandon Marshall's doing something.

He doing something. Anyway, I don't know if I want to hear the Kelsey brothers debate Waffle House is a diner or whatever. I don't know. No, thanks. No, thank you. Anyway, we'll be back tomorrow. 10 p.m. Eastern, 7 Pacific. If you miss us in the meantime, I'm at JR Sport Brief. Shup, where can people get you, man?

At Shep on CBS, JR. Appreciate you, man. No doubt. We'll be back tomorrow. I can't wait to talk about the Bears and the commanders. Hopefully it's not an ass whooping.

It might be. Y'all don't move here on CBS Sports Radio. We're done. The JR Sport Brief show back tomorrow. Amy Lawrence.
