Yeah, channel 158. I'm here every weeknight starting at 10 p.m. Eastern, 7 Pacific. Super producer and host Dave Shepherd.

He's joining us live from New York City. In a few seconds I want to ask him about an athlete with a major comeback. But we've been talking to you and it's been a busy night, a busy day. I know tomorrow we got some more Thursday Night Football which should be fun.

We get into that tomorrow night. And then this evening, today, we've had a lot of comments from the commissioners. The commissioners have spoken. Roger Goodell chatting it up about the turf and the grass and having really no major concern but always trying to improve it. A matter of fact, here's a refresher before we get back to the top six. This is what Roger Goodell had to say earlier today to Stephen A. Smith on ESPN about the field and the turf and the grass and did it lead to an injury?

Did it not? Roger Goodell is like, listen, people are getting hurt on grass and turf. Get it together.

Listen. Unfortunately, we had two ACL injuries. One was on grass and one was on the turf. By the way, a new turf that was just put in because there were some concerns about the slick turf that's been changed out of the Meadowlands. So from our standpoint, that's something we'll look at. We'll look deeply at it.

You always want to try to get the best surfaces. FIFA will be in here. I'm meeting with the head of FIFA next week.

They'll be playing World Cup. They will not be putting grass in. They'll be putting in a mixed grass, mixed grass with artificial surface. Something that we're working to try to see.

Is that a better surface for us? All right. Well, he talked about that and he talked about Jim Trotter and his lawsuit basically said, yeah, we'll figure it out in court. And yeah, we know we need to do better, but we have done better. Just your typical, typical defense of a multi-billion dollar entity. And that's in the NFL. Adam Silver spoke today as well. The NBA owners have put together some parameters to try to limit the amount of time that star players are out. Whether you want to call it load management or what have you, the NBA is going to punish teams who don't have their star players out.

A star is considered someone who's made an all-star team at least one time over the past three years. And this is what Adam Silver had to say about the move in these new rules. Yeah, the NBA is going to start looking at medicals. They're going to start finding teams who don't adhere to the rules. And there are going to be some exceptions for players who are older, not playing on back-to-backs. NBA teams can't have two stars sitting out of the same game. There's a few more intricacies and it's a good driver knowing that teams can be punished financially and that the NBA will look at medicals. But this is going to be driven by some of the younger players who've really, really been against sitting out games where they can play. Guys like Jason Tatum and Anthony Edwards who have been very vocal about giving the fans their money's worth. And so that's some of the news coming out of the NBA and also the NFL today.

Aaron Rodgers saying that he plans to rise again so I assume that we're going to have a return of Aaron Rodgers next season. And then in baseball, some good news for the Braves fans out there. They beat the Phillies 4-1 today. But that's not even the biggest news dealing with the Braves. They won another division title.

The sixth consecutive. Listen to this final call courtesy of the Braves radio network. He's digging around. Cast his eyes into his catcher. Murphy gets the sign. Ball in his glove. Right at the tomahawk again. Ready with a 2-2.

Here it comes. Got him swinging strike three. And the Braves are National League East champions for the sixth year in a row.

What an amazing era we're in the midst of. As it has been a six year run of dominance in the East and the Braves can celebrate right here in Philadelphia on the Phillies home field. And maybe they bludgeon their way to another World Series. I mean Matt Olson beating people up 50 plus 51 home runs. Acuna likely to be the MVP. It's just wild what the Braves are doing. The lineup is abusive.

Anyway, as I continue on, last hour was also busy. I gave you a top six list inspired by Aaron Rodgers as we took a look at some of the biggest injury returns and comebacks in the world of sports. If you want to hear the audio and all the fancy stuff bells and whistles that came with it, you can hit rewind on the free Odyssey app. But in number six, I gave you Peyton Manning returning from multiple neck injuries and surgeries and fusions to win a Super Bowl on his second try with the Denver Broncos. And number five, I gave you Adrian Peterson tearing his AC out one of the league's most violent runners before and after the surgery. He comes back and says, Hey, here's an MVP. Here's 2000 yards rushing.

It made no sense. And before I gave you Tiger Woods, you all that torque and swinging on his back the drugs, the leg issues. And despite it all, he won another Masters in 2019. And he had more surgeries and then he had another car accident and he's just all over the place.

Tiger Woods is indestructible. And number three, Mario Lemieux returning from cancer, returning from back injuries and surgeries and hips to come back and win a scoring title and also be one of the most influential athletes in a business perspective and as an athlete that we've seen here in North American sports. And number two, I gave you Alex Smith, 17 surgeries to save his leg, to save his life, to stop infection. And despite it all, two years later, he still made it back out onto an NFL field, led the Washington commanders or football team to a five and one record in his six starts. And then he decided to walk off into the sunset. And now he's inspiring others. And the number one numero uno dude I talked about with a comeback and return. It's the guy who actually died on the field about nine months ago.

That's Damar Hamlin. He hasn't played in a regular season game yet. That will come and happen sooner than later. But the fact that he's alive is enough to have him here at number one. And we've already taken some calls. You can't fit everybody into a list of six. One person that wasn't mentioned.

And this is an interesting injury. I mean, it's Monica Sellez. Monica Sellez got stabbed, man. I was thinking that too, JR. Yeah, she was able to come back. She missed three years. Yeah, and she got stabbed out in Germany. Was that who you were going to think of or say? Yeah, there's one more.

No, no, it's okay. I can't believe that nobody said Monica Sellez because, you know, I remember watching tennis even then in the early 90s. She was going to be the greatest player to ever live. Well, she got stabbed.

What are you going to do? I know, and she missed three years. She still made three slam finals, including winning one to reach number nine.

But what a shame. She was winning slams at the age of 17 years old. She came along the scene, was better than Steffi Graf.

No one thought that was possible. And then some maniac, when there wasn't enough security as there should have been, stabbed her in the shoulder blade. And good for her for recovering, JR, and being a professional as she is and being able to come back three years later. There is one more I have in mind. Is it going to be Nancy Kerrigan getting smacked in the leg? No, so it's a golfer, too. You know who this is. People in our audience probably have heard of this man. Considered one of the greatest of all time. Near fatal car crash, and he ends up winning six more majors because of that. Basically, almost every bone in his body, people thought he was going to die.

They'd never play again. The name is Ben Hogan. Not necessarily the most liked golfer to ever live, but certainly one of the most successful to win three slams in an entire year. Remember, most guys back then, JR, did not even play the PGA Championship, so he probably would have won all four. He was Tiger before Tiger Woods in terms of dominance.

You got to put Ben Hogan in that conversation, too, for greatest comebacks. I was going to say, not with the blondes, though, right? Tiger's an equal opportunist when it comes to going out. Is he?

I thought he was just the blondes. Tiger Woods? I don't want to sound disgusting and crass here, but let's just put it this way. No, I'm not going to put you in trouble. No, I'm going to be reserved when I say this. Let's just put it this way. If there's a certain body part that an individual has, there is no off limits regarding what Tiger would do back in the early to mid-2000s. Let me leave it there. He just liked chests. Is that what it is? Yes, and lower parts to chests. Any woman who breathed or walked?

Anyone with a pulse. He wasn't in a morgue. Maybe that's why he's handing out feminine hygiene products on the golf course in front of cameras. He can't... anyway. 855-212-4CBS. That's 855-212-4CBS. That's another dude lucky to be alive.

Can't get out of his own way a lot of times, too. Who do we have here? Let's go ahead and talk to Big Travis calling up from Fairfax, Virginia. You're on CBS Sports Radio. What's up, Travis? Hey, brother.

Much love, man. I got to your show late. I was hanging out with my boys, and I heard you. I was first going to talk about just being a person who has an issue in the business because I'm a transplant person.

I'm on the transplant for a heart transplant the past few years. So I was like, oh, I'll be talking about something about, you know, you know, you have an issue going on. You're being a player, and all of a sudden you can get back in the game. Well, what you were talking about, I thought about it. So your people are always meant like Marlon Mew, the punk-ass name Alan Strong, but I thought about it.

I'm an older head. Clint Malarchuk. Do you know what that name is? The name is familiar.

Explain. Buffalo Sabres, 1989. I didn't see the video, but this dude had his throat cut by a player from the Blues.

I think it was Steve Tuttle. I've been watching hockey since the 80s on Long Island. The man lost his throat, got cut on the ice. The blood on the ice was disgusting. Nothing in sports in my life. I'm by you.

I know you're a little younger than me. Have you ever seen that in your life? Of blood gushing on anything? Wasn't there, wasn't there, wasn't there someone else after that as well who got sliced? Yeah, but wasn't on the throat. The throat. Do you know what a throat cut is? That's definitely, like, you know. No, I've never seen a horror film. I have no idea what getting sliced in the throat is.

That's what I'm trying to tell you. This was to me, as a young man, 19, 20 years old. When I saw that, I was like, holy crap. That's the nastiest thing I've ever seen in sports, and that brother came back. Well, what was his, what was his comeback like when he returned? Well, he wasn't that player. I mean, he wasn't like, you know, Marlon Muir, Gretzky, whatever.

Well, who is? The fact he came back is my holy point. The brother came back in the game, and that's amazing to my heart that that brother was able to come from where he is and say, hey, I can still play? And almost died on the scene with a cut throat? That's amazing, brother. No, no doubt about that. That typically, that puts you out for good.

You lose enough blood, and you can't breathe, and there's one way to go, and that's gone. And trust me, as a man who's waiting for a new heart, you know I'm talking the truth, you know what I'm saying? Well, thank you.

Well, damn it, I'm glad to cheer here, Travis. Thank you, man. God bless you, brother. All right, be well. Have a good night. Yeah, what a good person to come and deliver that message.

Chef, what did he say? He had a heart transplant? Yeah, man. Good for big Travis. Tyler Sagan? Is that the guy you're thinking of, JR?

Well, who got there? There was another dude. Yeah, I thought it was Tyler Sagan. He wasn't just cut. He was also cut in the throat, wasn't he? This wasn't the throat. I can't think of someone else that was throat.

I think there was somebody. Where did he get cut at? Where's Alan or Rick from Toronto when you need them, big hockey guys? Tyler Sagan was with the stars at the time. He's obviously still with them. It was very recently.

Well, let's see. You said Alan from Toronto? Well, he knows hockey.

I mean, you got to know hockey if you live in Canada. Here he is. Alan from Toronto. You're on CBS Sports Radio. You know who we're referring to, Alan? No, no, I've never heard that guy. Hold on, hold on. Damn it, Alan.

That's what I get for stereotyping Canada, knowing hockey. Alan calls up and recites everything all the time. And the one time we asking him, he's like, man, I don't know what y'all talking about. Anyway, let's bring him back. I had to get that laugh out. Alan, you're on CBS Sports Radio, man.

Go ahead. I'm going with Giancarlo Stanton. On 9-11, just nine years ago, of all days, 9-11, he got hit in the face with a Brewers fastball, with a Mike Fiers fastball. And he did not return the rest of the year. And then he only played 74 games the following year, and he still got 27 home runs and 67 RBIs. And he eventually got 59 home runs in 2017. He played only 19 games in 2020 and 2021. But then he came back in, yeah, 2021, he came back, sorry, 2019.

In 2021, he hit 35 home runs in 19. Alan, Alan, let's slow down on his many injuries. I think if there's any injury that would matter the most that he came back from, it'd be when he got hit in the face with a baseball and then he started wearing that plate on the side of his head.

If you want to start telling me about Giancarlo Stanton coming back from calf injuries, man, I'm sorry, I'm not impressed, but getting hit in the face, yes, absolutely. And his father accompanied him to the hospital, too. His father, Watson Horry, he came on the field.

His father was there, too. Mike Redman, they asked him if he's through for the season, and he got very tested. He says it doesn't look like he's coming back, does it? He got very testy, and he just became the 58th player to crack the 400 career homer mark. So he's not going to hit 500 because he's hurt too much. Who are you saying?

And those injuries have nothing to do with his face, but it's working out for him because he also just dates models all over New York City. Something that you know all about, Alan, right? Yeah, exactly, yeah. I've been to New York quite a number of times.

Yeah, picking up all the models. Well, thank you, Alan. Appreciate you for calling from Canada, man. Yeah, always great to be on the line with you. Thank you.

Thank you so much. 855-212-4CBS, we're talking about athletes who have bounced back in a major way. Bill is here in Georgia. You're on CBS Sports Radio. What's going on, J.L.? How are you, Bill? Go ahead. I'm doing good, man. Another night in paradise.

I love your list, man. Hamlin can't nobody outdo that, man. Bill, Bill, you got something on in the back. Can you turn it down or off? Okay, there you go. Thank you. Go ahead. Yeah, but the more Hamlin, man, I sat in front of that TV like that was my child, man.

I was yelling at the TV, get up, get up. Right. My player is Jamal Murray. Okay, all right. And then he came back and got an NBA championship. Yeah, blew out his knee. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

All right, that seems kind of, I don't know. I don't want to diminish anybody's injury. I don't want to diminish anybody's return, but came back from an ACL and shot threes. You know, it's nice.

It's a nice story. But I mean, he had to put in a lot of work to get back, man. You're right. A lot of people have, but you're right. You're right, Bill.

And not my ACL, so I'll give him respect, okay? All right, thank you. Yeah, that's it, man, but you said only one choice, so that was my choice. I have a bunch of them, but that was my one.

I could dig it. You guys have a good night, man, and all I can say for everybody, God is good. All right, thank you, Bill.

Appreciate you for calling from Georgia. Yeah, I ain't mad at it. Jamal Murray, yeah. I can start naming dudes who've come back from injuries and surgeries and ACL. This is just a great story. It is. You can put Klay Thompson there, too, if you want, right, I guess.

You can start going down the list. Hey, Shep, what happened? Did we find a guy who got slashed or somebody else?

Yeah, I should remember this. It was the Winnipeg Jets' Morgan Baron, and for anyone that gets a little queasy about blood, I would recommend not watching that clip on YouTube. He got 75 stitches to the face when a skate cut his face open.

Ah, so it wasn't the throat, but it was the face. Yeah, I mean, 75 stitches, I mean, that's no joke. Yeah, listen, man. That's why I sit in a chair, man. I talk. I sit in a chair every now and then. I stand up here in the studio, but yeah, man, I just sit down. I'm not doing this.

It's too dangerous. Jerry, you know another one that I'm surprised no one's brought up, and no one's going to say this on the phone, because I know what everyone's going to say, is no one was able to come back the way Kevin Durant was from his injury. The Achilles and the knee?

Well, no, that was Klay Thompson. Yeah, well, Kevin Durant was able to come back, and that was the Achilles. You think of guys like Amari, Kobe, Kevin Durant in year 14, coming back in his mid-30s with all the wear and tear on his body to put up 30 points per game just getting out of bed, because people thought there was going to be a dip in his game, JR. Oh, yeah, sure.

There has not been. I wish that there was an actual comeback, though, man. I don't expect him to play 70 games anymore, but he's older, so you can't expect too much out of him, but what he has done is amazing, and I've said this before. He's one of the most unique basketball players that I've ever seen in my life, and if there's one human being that looks like he fell out of the womb and he was going to play basketball, that was his life predisposition for him. It was Kevin Durant, so let's see what he can do with the Suns this upcoming season. A big shout-out, again, to Josh Okogie, a Phoenix Sun, who joined us on air a few weeks ago. It's the JR Sport Reshow here on CBS Sports Radio. I'm going to get some more of your calls about some of these amazing comebacks from injury on the other side of the break, and speaking of going for a championship, Giannis Atetokounmpo, he's doing a lot of talking about, yeah, if the Bucs don't try to go, then I'm going to leave. We'll hear that audio on the other side, plus your calls. It's the JR Sport Reshow, CBS Sports Radio.

You're listening to the JR Sport Brief on CBS Sports Radio. Hey! Get out of here.

Get out of here. Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey!

You are listening to the JR Sport Brief on CBS Sports Radio. I'm a Packers fan. I'm from Wisconsin. I want to see the Buccaneers come back in Green Bay. I want my Packers to get revenge and beat Tom Brady, because to be the best, you've got to beat the best. Ric Flair, huh? Ooh, Nature Boy.

Call in now at 855-212-4CBS. It is the JR Sport Reshow here with you on CBS Sports Radio. Not necessarily tied to Green Bay.

Kind of sort of in the same state of Wisconsin. Giannis Aetetokounmpo for a dude who's just, you know, coming off of the injury in the postseason and the Bucs having to deal with injuries, it seems like, for the majority of the year and then losing to the Heat. He's been doing a lot of talking about his contract status, of which he's locked up, but more so about the future and the fact that he is eligible to sign a contract extension, but he's not doing so, and he wants to make sure the Bucs are going to be competitive, and he's stated that quite a few times. And now he's verbalizing it even more. He was more recently on the 48 Minutes on Believe podcast, and Giannis said it again. He's like, I want to win, and if the Bucs aren't going to win, then I'm going to go elsewhere to do so.

Listen to this. As long as we play and we approach the game every single day the right way and we all sacrifice for a common goal, I can see myself being a Milwaukee Bucks for the rest of my career, but the moment I feel like people are not committed as I am to get that golden fin in the back, I am not. I am a Milwaukee Bucks, but most importantly, I'm a winner. I want to win, and I have to do whatever it takes for me to win, and if there's a better situation for me to win the Larry O'Brien, I have to take that better situation. He could, if he wants, he could play two more seasons with the Bucs and be an unrestricted free agent. He could, if that's what he wants.

But he wants to see whether or not they're going to ante up cash and stay competitive. Look, the Milwaukee Bucks are getting older, man. Drew Holliday not getting younger. Chris Middleton already busted up and hurt over the past few years.

Brooke Lopez making some major money on a contract year last season. They're going to have to get younger. That's definitely, without a shadow of a doubt, especially Giannis. It's crazy to think about it. Giannis is getting ready to pull up on his age 29 season.

It sounds weird to say Giannis almost 30, but it's the reality. Let's get back to more of your calls. 855-2124 CBS talking about some of the best injury returns and comebacks that we've seen in the world of sports.

I had Damara Hamlin number one on my list. Let's go ahead and talk to Ellie from Chicago. You're on the JR Sport Brief Show. Hey, JR. How are you? What's up? Not too bad. How about you? I'm good. Do you have an athlete that you'd like to share? Yeah, I think 2016 Kyle Sorber.

Okay. He came back. What happened with him? He collided in the outfield in April of 2016 with Dexter Fowler. Go ahead.

I was back by October to help win the World Series for the Cubs. Okay. Yeah, okay.

The curse. Well, thank you. I appreciate that. I remember it now that you brought it up.

I didn't think about it for the list. I appreciate the fact that you did. Well, have a good night.

Well, you as well. Thank you, Ellie. I was about to think it was past Ellie's bedtime.

I appreciate Ellie coming by and dropping that knowledge. Man, I've seen so many collisions in an outfield, to be honest. I can't remember them all. Is it Mike Cameron and Carlos Beltran running into each other? Breaking faces. 855-212-4CBS. Ryan is here from North Carolina. What's up, Ryan? How you doing, JR? I love your show, man. Thank you. Thank you. What's up?

I was thinking I want to throw this out there. Thomas Davis of the Carolina Panthers, who went through three ACLs and then still came back and got, you know, won Pro Bowl, or he went to the Pro Bowl. He got All-Defensive Player of the Year and all that and went to the Pro Bowl. The linebacker, right? Yeah. Yeah, yeah. At what point do you tear ACL and not have nothing in there no more?

I don't know. He tore three of them, had three ACLs, and he came back better and stronger after all three of them. He must be hanging on by, like, a spaghetti string at this point, man. He had a solid career, man. Real solid. Yeah.

After his three ACLs, he still made the Pro Bowl, and he made two All-Defensive Players of the Month, and he was just amazing. Yeah. He needs to give some advice to Max Scherzer, who... Anyway, that's a different story. Max Scherzer can't stay healthy for a damn thing.

He can't get his arm to work anymore because he's so old. Well, thank you, Ryan. All right. No problem. Love your show, JR.

Thank you so much. It's a different situation when you're the one handing out the abuse, and that's what Thomas Davis was doing. He was out there handing out the abuse.

Everybody. Brian, it's calling from South Carolina. You're on the JR Sportbreeze show.

What's up, Brian? Yeah. Hey, JR. I want to throw out a name that probably could qualify at least three times for this award.

Okay. A guy with potential Hall of Fame numbers. That'd be running back Frank Gore. Oh, yeah.

He hurt himself all through college and pros, yes, and still kept on going until he was, like, 80. Yes. I appreciate your show.

You have a good one. Well, thank you, Brian. And, yeah, Frank Gore. Damn it, when was the last year he played? What was he, two years ago, Frank Gore finally called it a wrap? I'm like, damn, Frank Gore is playing here for every team. Miami. I think he played for every team in the AFC East besides, I think, New England. I know, obviously, he played for Buffalo, the Jets, Miami, most definitely. When did Frank Gore quit? 2020 with the Jets. Damn. Like, I think Frank Gore's son, isn't his son playing somewhere?

Frank Gore is just, he's going into the Hall of Fame, just for longevity purposes, and he's climbed up the list, top running backs of all time, because he played forever. 855-2124 CBS. You're listening to the J.R. Sportbrief on CBS Sports Radio. You're listening to the J.R. Sportbrief on CBS Sports Radio. I'm putting a venue in Colorado Springs, Brian, up all night, doing 20-hour days. I listen to you. You have really become a major part of what I do, because, I mean, you just keep it real.

Call in now at 855-212-4CBS. It's the J.R. Sportbrief Show here on CBS Sports Radio. Oh, we've had a tremendous night. Talked about Roger Goodell, talked about the NFL's turf, heard from Adam Silver about the NBA's new rules to help lessen load management, to actually ensure players play. We heard from Chris Jones from the Kansas City Chiefs. He's like, yeah, I showed up to work.

You know, maybe I would have done things differently and not held out. You know what? A matter of fact, I don't need to go word for word on what Chris Jones said. He spoke to the media today.

This is what came out of his mouth. I'll probably change some things. You know, when you have a lot of new guys, it's kind of tough to be away.

Especially in the D-line room, building that chemistry is important to be successful as a group. But, you know, those are decisions you have to live with. I wouldn't probably change it. But I'm grateful for how it turned out. All right, I don't know if the Chiefs are grateful with how the first game went. Maybe he could have been out there to help him out.

Or maybe Kadarius Toney could have actually caught a pass. I have no idea. Anyway, we talked about a top six. I gave you a top six list. Some of the biggest comebacks that the sports world has ever seen. In particular, guys who were injured. Taking a lot of calls on that. We heard from Giannis Atetokounmpo. Giannis telling the Bucs, I mean, what they already know, that they're on notice. If they want him to stick around, they have to be competitive into the future.

New York Jets, not going after Brady, not going after Kaepernick. No surprise or shock there. The Braves win another National League East title.

Max Scherzer gets hurt again. Nothing new here. So let's get some more of your calls before we have to roll out. We got a lot of people on the lines.

So let's try to get on as many people as possible. 855-212-4CBS. Scottie is calling from California. You're on the JR Sport Brief Show. What's up, Scottie?

What's up, JR? You had me hanging on a cliff when you went to a commercial break before, and you said, I got one for tennis. Maga Seltz was a good one. But how about Serena? Almost died with the blood clots, came back, made four finals, four slam finals.

Couldn't do it, but four slam finals was pretty good. Yeah, came back, and the baby was here. Now she just had another one.

Yep. After all that scare, she still had another one. Oh, well, I mean, you got money, and maybe she lived through it. Now she got two kids, a husband, you know, she's doing good.

One of the greatest athletes of all time. Yeah, no doubt about that. Now we got Coco Goff, so let's see how she goes. Let's see how she goes, but man, love the show, bro. Always good. Thank you, Scottie, for calling from Cali. We got Paul. Paul is calling from Alexandria up in VA. You're on CBS Sports Radio. What's up, Paul?

Hi there, JR. Hello, what's up? The gentleman with the heart transplant, I didn't catch the name of the player that he talked about. I think it must have been Clint Malarchuk, the goaltender.

Yes, absolutely. But then subsequent to that, about a few years later, Malarchuk shot himself in the head. The bullet is still in there.

He survived. But the other player, hockey player, that got a neck state injury was Richard Zdenek when he was playing with the Florida Panthers. That was more recent, wasn't it? That was more like in 2028 or something like that. That was 2008. That's more recent to me, yeah. Malarchuk got a tuberous jugular vein. Zdenek got the carotid artery, so the blood was squirting.

There's one more I'd like to add. Please. Wait, wait, wait, wait, Paul. Is it going to be somebody else that got sliced in the neck, Paul? No, no, it would be an eye injury. Oh my God.

Okay, go ahead. Yes? Brian Barad got hit in a follow-through of a shot by another player, an opponent, and he lost his eye, basically. He lost vision in his eye. But he came back. He signed a release.

He said for a couple of years he didn't want to sit on the bench, and he played another several years. So what you're telling... I'm sorry?

No, go ahead. Unfortunately, the same thing can't be said for our boy Hagelin on the Capitals. He's out. He got an eye injury during practice, and they couldn't. What you're telling us is to don't let our kids play hockey, right? No, I'm saying have them wear eye protection. Have them wear... Okay, a visor, yes.

Have them wear... A visor. ...cages. Yes.

Cages. Okay. Well, thank you, Paul. I wasn't being serious about the last part. Tremendous. I was trying to bring some levity to it, but yes, thank you. I know. I know that. I don't want to fall into the cold, but John... You are.

Go ahead. The Capitals had a player, their star defenseman, who got hit, John Carlson, got hit in the head. He had bleeding from the ear.

He was out for about four or five months, and he made a comeback. Well, thank you, Paul. Paul, you know everybody in hockey that almost died. I'm a doctor.

Oh, well, damn it, there you go. Hey, what type of doctor are you, Paul? What type of doctor? I'm a doctor, and I almost died. I'm a psychiatrist. Oh, okay. Well, listen, we're going to need you real soon, okay?

Before I was a psychiatrist, I was a general practitioner, and we have to learn medicine, and winning is in the head, too. It is. Have you listened to some of the people who call me up, Paul? Have I listened to them? Today, yeah, I have. Okay. Well, we're going to need you to call back more often, okay? I love you. I will. I was going to write to you.

There was a point when you were going to be in Washington. Yeah, last week, two weeks ago, yeah. No, this was a couple of years ago, about a year ago, and you said, email me, and I couldn't get my email to work. What type of doctor are you? You don't know how to use email. What's going on here? That I'm not allowed?

I'm a dinosaur. I'm an old guy, and I don't have an IT division. Do I Zoom? Yeah.

Well, sometimes, yeah. You got Zoom, but you don't have email at work. Dr. Paul, my grandma's 92, and she knows email. Come on.

Your grandma's terrific. I didn't say I don't do email. I said I couldn't get it to work.

Oh, well, that's the same thing, Paul. I'm sorry. Well, listen, when you know how to work your email, you do it. You email me, all right?

I got it to work now, but when you can't get your tech to work, then you wind up talking to somebody in Bombay, Mumbai, or somewhere. Yeah, yeah, yeah. They charge. Hey, Paul, do you charge your patients by the hour or the minute? I'm lucky to get paid at all.

I have to... The insurance? Yeah, the stupid insurance.

They run everything. I understand. But I charge by the hour.

Yeah, yeah. You make a lot of money, Paul. Thank you for calling from Virginia, okay? Not as much as lawyers, JR. All right, well, it's not too late.

They like to talk, too. Thank you, Paul. Thank you very much, and you've got a great producer. Oh, yeah, he's awesome. Thank you so much. He is. Thank you, Paul.

Wow. Hey, doctor, my left ear hurts, and he's going to talk to me in my left ear as it hurts. He's going to talk to me for 20 minutes in my left ear as it hurts. I'm like, nah, doc, just fix it. Don't talk to me.

Just fix it. He's a nice guy, though. Real nice guy. Hey, Shep, we should go sign up. One of us should go sign up to talk, then.

Well, we're not going to get many words, then. Yeah. Nice guy. Real nice guy. Very nice guy. Nice guy. Funny interesting sense of humor, too, by the way. Funny doctor. Maybe he should do a stand-up.

It's possible. Hey, listen, folks. Dr. Paul took up all of the damn time here at the end of the show. Sorry. You can thank him. I'm going to be back with you tomorrow.
