I get started 10pm Eastern, 7 Pacific every weeknight. And I'm coming to you live from Atlanta, Georgia.

Hello, Las Vegas. You could be in Oklahoma. Shop name of state. Name one.

Name one. Arkansas. Yeah, Arkansas. Shop, when's the last time we got a caller from Arkansas? More recently than you would think.

Okay. Where the hell are you? Where are the people from Arkansas at? Where they at? Fayetteville? Little Rock? Yeah, good. Good answer.

It's like family view. At a fake Bobby Petrino rally? No. Oh, what?

Wearing a neck brace? Exactly. Good call. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Good job. Talk about the opposite of Deion Sanders. What, him? That lion? Yeah. Leave everybody in the dust, Mr. Petrino?

Yeah, yeah. The guy that I know Atlanta fans are not too happy about either. Don't, listen. Who else is in? Oh, is it Joey Harrington?

I was about to say, that's the one time people actually liked and sided with Joey Harrington on anything. Hey, listen, man. I'm drinking my tea so I can finish up this hour of the show. Don't make me spit my tea out on all this equipment in here, okay? Fair enough, because Bobby Petrino has had worse reactions for people like that, yes. I think he's had worse reactions to a lot of things, but that might get me in trouble.

Anyway, let's leave his personal business alone. It is the JR Sport Brief show here on CBS Sports Radio. Yeah, I've been hanging out with you since 10 PM Eastern, 7 Pacific.

Thank you to everybody tuned in all over the country. You want to talk to us, it's simple. 855-212-4CBS.

It's 855-212-4CBS. I'm also at JR Sport Brief all over the damn place, everywhere. As a matter of fact, I'm retweeting the top 6 list right now if you want to go ahead and take a look at it. Tonight we talked about the top athletes, some of the best athletes to turn into some of the best coaches. And typically we don't see it happen that way. If you're at the top of your game and then you move on into being a coach, it doesn't always work.

Expectations are too high, you're wound too tight. Some of the best coaches actually are role players, middling players. And so tonight, with all the hype around Deion, and we even got Warren Sapp saying that, man, I'm going to go coach with Deion next year in Colorado. I'm like, damn, Deion's bringing in everybody. Maybe Tom Brady will come in next year and coach the quarterbacks when Tom Brady isn't calling games for Fox. Before I get back to your calls and before we go through more of the top 6 and I give you a recap, this is Warren Sapp, NFL Hall of Famer, human bowling ball for Tampa Bay in the Raiders. This is what Warren Sapp told Rich Eisen about getting into coaching with Deion.

Listen. So what 2024 Colorado Buffalo staff, is that your target day? Is that what that would be for you? I want to be there next year. I want to be there next year. I'm going to get everything, the paperwork, and I'm going to go to work because sitting on my couch watching tape, tapping the labs, I'm going to go tap into class.

Sounds great. I'm going to go get this degree and then we'll go out and teach these kids these five steps to the quarterback because I know something about this game. When you have a quarterback like Chidora, and if my D line will go hunt the other quarterback, our chances of winning just went through the roof.

Yeah, he ain't lying. Everybody coaching, look at that. I wonder who's next. And we're going to answer a question as well that Shep had. What NBA player could have the impact that Deion Sanders is having? And let's just say college basketball.

We're going to answer that as well. Let's get back to more of your calls. But before I do that, here are the top six lists that I shared with you. Top six athletes who turned into coaches, good athletes, solid athletic career, accomplishments, great coach as well. At number six, Mike Ditka. At number five, I gave you Larry Bird. At number four, I gave you Joel Torrey. At number three, Phil Jackson. At number two, Jacques Lemaire. And at number one, I gave you Lenny Wilkins. And if you missed the full explanations, if you missed the fancy audio that accompanied everything, hit rewind.

It's on the free Odyssey app. 855-212-4CBS. Let's go ahead and get back to the phone lines. Let's go ahead and talk to Larry from Cleveland.

You're on the JR Sport Brief Show. Go ahead, Larry. Hey, how's it going? How you doing, JR? It's going very well.

What's up? Well, I'll tell you, I heard, oh man, there's been one guy called Craig Council. That brother's back in bad memory. It was back in 97 there at the Marlins. When they beat us at the World Series. Great choice to let Coach Wilkins there, too. I remember watching him back in Cleveland, too, while he came to existence. Clean Cavaliers, JR. Back with him and Austin Carver, the same backcourt together. That was a pretty good memory. Great coach to see how super psyched, too. Won the championship, too.

Two finals, yeah. Yeah. Real quick, there's a guy up off the list. And you're the man from Atlanta. And he played with one of the greatest home run hitters of all time there. Hank Aaron, yes.

And that one talks about Dusty Baker. Well, yeah, but you said played with the greatest home run hitter, your friend Hank Aaron, yeah. Yeah, he played with the Dodgers, too. He was a good ball player at the time, but Dusty Baker's done a great job there, too, with the Houston Astros.

And what other team, too, JR? Did he win the championship with any World Series? Was it somebody else?

A man? No, it was, no. He just won the first one with the Astros. He won one as a player with... I don't remember. Yeah, he won one with the Dodgers, and then he just picked up the other one with the Astros, yes.

Basically, a clean-up job. Yeah, but, yeah, he played, that was a great line-up back there in Atlanta. A great ball player and just wanted to give my props to Dusty Baker. Yeah, no doubt about it. No, yeah, he had coached the Giants, but he didn't win it ultimately when they took on the Angels. And people had to think about whether or not he'd ever get that opportunity, and lo and behold, the opportunity came where he actually won it, just about 20 years later.

Yep. Alright, take care, JR. Alright, thank you, Larry. No, it's a great story. I thought about Dusty Baker putting him on the list.

Excellent story. The man had to wait forever to get his hands on the championship as a coach. We know it didn't happen all those years where he was managing the Giants, but as a flip side, man, Joel Torrey, multiple-time All-Star MVP, and the success he had with the Yankees was nuts, but it was nice to see Dusty Baker finally get that championship, because let's be real. He got the championship because it was mop-up duty.

They wanted to bring in someone who had managerial experience. He wasn't going to get slapped around with all the negativity that they acquired over the banging on trash cans and all of that stuff. And lo and behold, one man's, I don't want to say trash is another man's treasure, but what was an unfortunate incident ended up being a positive for him. Good on Dusty Baker. And who knows, he might walk away with another one.

No trash cans. 855-212-4CBS. That's 855-212-4CBS. Robert is here from Annapolis. You're on the JR Sport Brief Show.

Hey JR and Shep, thanks for putting me on. Steve Kerr was a far superior player than Phil Jackson, and I think he probably has the most combined championships as a player and a coach. I think he had five as a player, and Shep could clarify this. Phil's got 13.

Alright, but mostly as a coach. But Steve Kerr... His two as a Nick and 11 he won with the Lakers and the Bulls. Okay, but Steve Kerr had five as a player, and Shep, how many as a coach? Kerr's got nine total. Okay, four as a coach, right?

Is there any harder job than being a coach of an NBA team? And he was a very good player, maybe not a great player, but he was probably the best three-point shooter of his time, so I think he certainly deserves recognition to be on any such list. Shep can clarify that.

I wouldn't... You want Shep to do what? Clarify that, because he's an NBA guy. I'm not really an NBA guy. So is JR for some reason. Yeah, I've actually worked on NBA TV.

I know Shep really focuses on the NBA. Hey, how about Billy Martin, too? Can we go Billy Martin?

The NBA has actually hired me, Robert, for multiple years, yes. Hold on, can I answer the damn question? Yeah, go ahead JR, I'm sorry. Hold on, hey Shep, hold on a second, too, okay? Hold on, I'm just gonna take a sip of my tea while Robert stops talking for a minute. I stopped talking. No, you didn't. You're still talking, hold on. Alright, buddy. You can't help yourself, there you go again. I can't, I can't. Okay, there we go.

Now what was your question, Robert? I'm throwing Steve Kerr out there. What do you think about Steve Kerr?

I have no problem with Steve Kerr being thrown out. Okay, that's all I wanted to know. How about Billy Martin?

I think this is JR being silent. Am I still on? You're definitely still on. Oh, okay. No, that's what I had.

That's what I had for tonight. Thanks for putting me on. Of course. I don't know if you knocked JR off or not, Robert.

I don't know. Where'd JR go? Did JR?

Thank you very much for the call. Alright, buddy. JR doesn't put me on a lot.

No, no, he does. He loves you, Robert. We'll take care when we get to the next call.

Thank you. I hope you didn't knock JR off, in all seriousness. Did we lose him?

No, I hope not. Hold on for one second, Robert. JR, we still got you?

Okay. Apparently we don't have JR, but we're going to continue the show. We're going to make sure we continue to take your calls. Number to get aboard is 855-212-4CBS.

That's 855-212-4227. We love everybody who calls during the top six list. JR's top six list, of course, we know, is greatest athlete to then turn into head coaches. Now, number six, we all know who that is, obviously, at this point. It is none other than Mike Ditka.

Number five, Jalen Rose, etc. So we appreciate your calls. We're going to effort JR as we get back to the phone lines. Let's get to, let's get to Alan. Alan, always a good friend of the show. Let me see something. Go for it, Alan.

What you got for us, man? Toe Blake. I'd like to use Scottie Bowman, but Scottie was never a player. Incidentally, Scottie just turned 90 three days ago, and I wish him a very, very happy birthday. But Toe Blake, five consecutive Stanley Cups from 1956 to 1960, nine first place finishes, and eight Stanley Cups. And as a player, he was on the punch line with Elmer Locke and the legendary Maurice Rocket Richard. Rocket Richard was the Babe Ruth of hockey, and his records were broken by Gordie Howe and Wayne Gretzky. Alan, I think Wayne Gretzky is the, Alan, I think Wayne Gretzky is the, hold on, Alan, hold on, hold on. I think in fairness, I know you know your hockey, if Wayne Gretzky has more career assists than anybody else has career points, don't you think it's fair to say that Maurice Richard, as great as he was, shout out to the Rocket, is nowhere near Wayne Gretzky in terms of being the Babe Ruth of that sport?

Yeah, we're not talking about that. We're talking about his career. He was a Hall of Famer as a player. He was a Hall of Famer as a coach, too. I mean, there was no better coach, 14 years as a coach, 13 years as a player.

And, you know, Wayne Gretzky broke his record. I know that. Yeah, but we're not talking about that. We're talking about legendary coaches. Oh, no, no, Alan, no, I totally get that.

I agree with your premise. My only point was, if we're going to mention Babe Ruth and put him in the same sentence as Toe Blake, we have to be fair to the history of the game. There is no closer figure to Babe Ruth in hockey than Wayne Gretzky. And Wayne Gretzky, you and I both know this, Alan, had his back held up, he would have been by far and away the most dominant statistical figure we've ever had in professional sports. If he had the longevity of a Jaumeir Jager, a Marc Messier, a Gordie Howe, can you imagine the way we would talk about Wayne Gretzky, considering the fact that he actually retired in his late 30s? You know, in contrast to those guys that were playing into their mid, late, and ultimately Gordie Howe in his early 50s? In 1960, he was called the Babe Ruth of hockey. In 1960, he is not now, but he was then. I'm talking about then. You're going off trumpet when you're starting to talk about Gretzky, but I'm talking about at that time. And Toe Blake was on the line with Elmer Locke and the legendary Rocket Richard.

So he scored 235 goals and 297 assists for 597 points, which was a lot back then. Oh yeah, that's true. Al, listen man, we appreciate the call. I gotta do right by you though, I gotta be fair. I believe we have JR on the line, and so just very quickly and very briefly, and JR, I believe we have you now.

Yeah, I'm here. I got a bone to pick with that guy from Maryland, but go ahead. So Alan, I want you to give JR just a very quick rendition of who your top six guy is that was not on JR's list. Toe Blake, because he had five consecutive Stanley Cups between 1956 and 1960, and those teams were absolute powerhouses. And he had nine first place finishes, eight Stanley Cups, and he was never fired as a coach. He coached for 13 years and was never fired. And he had some very lean years between 1961 and 64. They didn't fire him, they kept him on there. And Jacques Lemaire was a rookie back in his very last year of 1967-68.

This is his last year as coach, and Lemaire was a rookie back then, and he wound up having a career coaching. Okay, so I know you're a Canadian. I know you're in Toronto, you're not in Montreal. Are we not splitting hairs on that right now? Are we going from one Canadian to another? Yeah, okay. I'm asking, I'm asking.

I'm not a Canadian, I'm just asking. Yes, you're right. Okay, we are splitting hairs, okay. Alright, well thank you for calling, Alan. I'll talk to you soon, okay? Sure.

He was a Hall of Famer as a player and a Hall of Famer as a coach. That's what you wanted, that's what you got. Okay. Well thank you, Alan. We'll talk to you later, okay? Okay, sure.

Okay, thank you. Have a good night. Hey, shut up. What the hell happened to that other guy?

Oh, Robert in Annapolis, Maryland? Well, I had to put him on hold, because he might have knocked you off. That's what I think happened.

That's what I'm trying to think. I'm like, I'm over here having a conversation. I say, let me sip some tea, and the guy's talking my ear off, and the next thing I know, I'm gone. Like, what was...

Right. Let me tell you something. Where did the conversation end? No, it was just basically, I said, Robert, I think what happened was you knocked off... I think JR tried to be silent, and apparently his line got silent because of what you said to him. So this is your fault, Robert. No, Robert, in all seriousness, if you are listening, totally messing around with you.

Just sometimes technology is funny, but credit to JR for getting right back with us about two minutes later. So we appreciate you, man. Yeah, listen. No, you can be nice.

I'm just going to blame him outright, and we can go ahead and stick to that. Hey, Chef, who else we got on the line right now? Well, we got a lot of people. We do have Matt in San Diego, and obviously, we can get him as soon as you want. Yeah, let's talk to Matt from San Diego. Now, what's on your mind, Matt? Hey, JR.

Thanks for having my call. Sure. Well, I'm just bringing up, Bill Russell is one of the... It's kind of more, obviously, on the player side of that equation. Right. But 11 champs, defensive MVP five times, I think, and then as a coach, also helped them go to two more championships. And obviously, such huge achievements off the court as well with civil rights advocacy and everything. Oh, well, yes, that's 100% correct. But we're just looking at the plan and the coaching.

And who am I? And I sure as hell am not bashing the great Bill Russell. But the man was a player coach in the last two years with the Celtics, and then when he stopped playing those last two years, they didn't even make the playoffs, I don't think, for those next two seasons. It took two, three years after that for them to get back into championship contention. And by then, he wasn't coaching no more. He didn't coach again until I think he was out in Seattle. Right.

No, yeah, in Seattle. But where do you weight the player combination versus the coaching combination on this list? It's impossible to just give like a scientific formula. You know, I'm not sitting around going, man, this is the QBR rating for XYZ player. I just think as an overall, I wanted to find some balance between folks who were contributors on championship teams or, you know, excellent players who are able to have just great success as coaches too. So that's the balance because everybody's career is different. You know, Joe Torrey is obviously different than Phil Jackson, Phil Jackson different than Jacques Lemaire. You know, everybody on the list is different in their own way, you know?

Yeah, for sure. And like maybe the only like fair comparison there is Larry Bird. He is like just straight up. And he only coached three years, which is crazy. He had so much success. It feels longer.

He only coached for three years. So, you know, everybody's different. For sure. Yeah.

No. Yeah, that's all that's all I was talking about. I was just like, maybe Phil Russell, if you like took his player side of the thing, he could be back.

He could be over Larry Bird a little bit. But yeah, I think And he certainly had his own. It was very interesting what he did. Well, thank you so much for calling up. We'll talk to you later. Okay. For sure. Thanks, man.

Have a good one. No doubt about it. It's the JR sport re-show here with you on CBS Sports Radio. I'm going to get some more of your calls on the other side of the break. Shep also had an interesting question. You know, what player in the NBA? What superstar in the NBA could potentially have the same impact that a Deon has had at the college football level?

Who can do that on the basketball side? I'm going to get some more of your calls. Shep and I, we're going to have that conversation. You're listening to the JR sport brief on CBS Sports Radio. They are. I gotta say you are the smartest guy in radio. You are.

You know what? If I can give you a SP tonight, you deserve a SP for this toxic list. Call in now at 855-212-4CBS. It's the JR sport re-show here with you on CBS Sports Radio. 855-212-4CBS.

That's 855-212-4CBS. We're talking about some of the best athletes who had, who, what athletes had some of the best careers and turned into being some of the best coaches. At number one, I gave you Lenny Wilkins.

You know what? For anyone who's just tuning in, here's a quick recap. At number six, I gave you Mike Ditka. Five, Larry Bird. Number four, Joe Torre. Three, Phil Jackson. Number two, Jacques Lemaire. And at number one, Lenny Wilkins.

No real formula. I tried to find some balance. People who had success both on the playing field, maybe they weren't a superstar, but they contributed to a winning team. You know, every guy on this list is a little different. It's not a one size fits all here. And also, Shep brought up a great question.

I want to talk about that before I get back to the phone lines. Shep, you posed the question of, and correct me if I'm wrong, what basketball player would be able to have the same type of impact that Deion had for college? Like, what NBA star could we look at and say, this guy could kind of have the same impact and attracting talent? Is that the thought?

A hundred percent. Like, what major NBA former great could go to college and usurp every other college coach in their first year, because this is Deion's first year at a Power Five conference, and not just be the story of that college, not just be the story of college basketball, but be the story of all basketball. Oh man, you said Allen Iverson, and I think from a cultural standpoint that might be the case, but the man was notorious for not working hard. I don't know if that would equate the same way.

From a pizzazz and style and cultural influence side, I think you're right. I think he might be the equivalent for like a Deion, but we know Deion worked. I mean, there was no way in hell that he'd be able to work the way that he did. He's playing in World Series games and going and playing in NFL games and he's doing it all.

And we know Allen Iverson, his work ethic, for as hard as he played when the whistle blew, outside of that? He'd rather have a drink with me at 2 a.m. in the morning. You know, he wasn't working hard. Maybe. I don't know. Is Kevin Garnett likable?

I was thinking that. That was the guy, yeah. But do people like him? I think anyone that plays for him will swear up and down by him.

They'll even say he's probably the greatest teammate that they've ever had. Now if you were in opposition to him, you hated his guts. Yeah. It's tricky.

Huh. It has to be someone with cultural impact. You see, Kevin Garnett isn't a touch point. I think in his younger days, he was. But then as he got older, he became more of an old man sage slash agitator. He didn't have that cool factor as he got older.

Allen Iverson, even today, he still has like, man, I just want to hang out with AI. That's fair. There's three more I can think of very quickly.

You'll go ahead. One is no longer here. And he would have been the perfect coach. I know he coached. If he wanted to, I don't think he ever would want to.

But yeah, he would have been an excellent coach, I think. Flash. Which Flash? Dwayne Wade. No. Because he's... I don't think he's... You see, there's... Just think about dudes who... Allen Iverson didn't ever, ever, ever, and I'm not saying that Wade had to try, but there's a concerted effort by Dwayne Wade to just, I don't want to say be cool, but he's conscious of what he wears, where he goes. If you think about the history, Allen Iverson is just like, yo, I'm here. And he changed the world.

I mean, that's how he is. He had such an influence. I know we think about musicians and how they affect things. He had such an influence on pop culture and black culture, which things trickled down from there. Unlike any athlete, I would say he's in that category with Dion.

And it's exclusive, an exclusive category if I got to think about the past 25, 30, 35 years. Yeah. Now, so the ultimate trump card to all of this, who is by far more famous, more popular than Dion Sanders and Allen Iverson combined, that you want to talk about changing the world, I can't think of an individual in our lifetime that is more recognizable, that would instantaneously go into a locker room to this day in his early 60s and have everybody silent whenever the hell he wanted to speak. Is he just 60? He is, yeah, yeah, yeah. He just, you know exactly who I'm talking about. Is Michael Jordan? If he wanted to.

That's the one guy. Yeah, he got too many billions to count. Well, Dion's a rich man too, you know.

Yeah, he ain't no Michael Jordan. How many people are Michael Jordan rich? A couple hundred people on earth? I mean, Oprah, Bill Gates, Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos.

Yeah, there's a couple hundred people on earth. Donald Trump, if you ask him. Well, we don't know what he got. He might have one, I don't know.

Maybe he stole it, I don't know. Yeah, he wasn't going bankrupt in the meantime. How many billionaires in the world? Let's see.

Oh my God. There's over 500 billionaires in the world. Oh man, there's 3300. Right, but Michael's one of the few, but there's very few self-made.

Michael is completely self-made. And the third, hey, Forbes, I don't know how accurate this is, I don't know. Globally, 3,000 or less. 25 to 3,000 billionaires. Huh. Okay. That's a lot of billionaires. Yeah, it's more than I thought, right?

I don't know. I gotta find one. Let's find one and I was gonna say let's find one and rob him, but that's... We can always have one on the show.

A guy that likes to hear himself talk is Mark Cuban. Oh yeah, we can do that. Can we? Yeah, we can. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Every time I'm free. I have his number, by the way. Well, hit him up.

Well, unfortunately, if you're not a big time host like yourself, you gotta go through the proper channels, you gotta go through their team's PR, and the team's PR's job is to always say no thank you. One of my friends is a friend with his. I can get one. Okay, that's great, man. Yeah, I'll reach out.

You know what? Yeah, I'll reach out to him and then Adam Silver owes us some time too. Hey, Rudy Gay, I don't even think Rudy Gay's on the team right now. Rudy Gay wants to come on the show again too. Rudy Gay's not playing in the NBA this season?

No, I didn't say that. He's not on the team right now. I find that hard to believe.

Why? Because he can still... I mean, I know he's going into year, I wanna say eight. He's a rookie in 2006. He's going into year like 40. He's been around. But he's still 6'8 and can shoot the rock and has always been a complementary player.

He can play to 40 if he wanted to. He's like Jeff Green. I feel like I watched Rudy Gay play basketball at UConn in like the 90s. I'm being a jerk.

Almost. Him, Ray Allen, Rip Hamilton, and Donnie Marshall. I'm being a jerk. And now Rudy Gay's gonna curse me out later. Hey, shout outs to Rudy Gay representing for the DMV. We're gonna get some more of your calls. 855-2124 CBS. That's 855-2124 CBS.

We're talking about some great athletes who turned into great coaches. It's the JR Sport Brief Show here on CBS Sports Radio. You're listening to the JR Sport Brief on CBS Sports Radio. You're listening to the JR Sport Brief on CBS Sports Radio.

JR, first of all, I gotta tell you something. I have been blind for 40 years now. I lost my eyesight when I was 19 years old. I've been listening to sports radio for 40 years because it's more informative than television to me. You, my friend, are the most realistic broadcaster I have ever heard in my life and I thank you.

Call in now at 855-2124 CBS. Oh, nah, man. Thank you. Thank you for listening, man. That was, that was touching.

That was deep, man. Thank you so much. Look, I sit here and just try to paint a picture.

Whatever picture anybody wants to come up with, I just try to paint a picture. Thank you so much. 855-2124 CBS. Oh, 855-2124 CBS. I'm gonna get to some more of your calls before I have to roll out, before they tell me to shut up and leave. And so let's not waste any time.

Let's get to it. We got Leland calling from Houston. You're on CBS Sports Radio, the JR sport brief show. What's going on, Leland? Not much, JR. Long time listening. First time caller. No doubt about it.

What's up? Uh, I just wanted to say Rudy T. Oh, no, you're right. You're absolutely right. I mean, he was an all-star. He won them championships with the Rockets. You got a good point, yes?

Yeah, I think he still holds the record for most rebounds at Michigan. Well, I don't know that, but okay. We'll look into it. Yep. I just wanted to let you guys know and, you know, I listen to your show every night when I'm on the road, so thanks for taking my call.

No problem. What you doing on the road? You transporting something? Nah, I'm delivering pizzas.

Oh, man, I could go for it. What type of pizza you delivering? Papa John's.

Papa John's? Okay. Never mind, Leland. Thank you for calling from Houston. Leland's right about Rudy T., by the way.

So what happened, chef? Leland's right. He's got the most rebounds in the history of Michigan basketball.

In Michigan? Yeah, I wouldn't know that. Now I know it. I won't forget it, but I wouldn't know that.

I could. He said he's delivering Papa John's. I was too busy looking up Rudy T., but I don't think that's what he said. Yeah, he said he's delivering Papa John's. If it was something else, I'd be like, where the hell did he just call from? He called from Houston, right?

Yeah. He called from Houston for sure. It explains the Rudy T. Yeah, there's no way in hell he's going to deliver pizza to Atlanta.

Not happening. It might get here tomorrow, but that's a little too late. 855-212-4CBS.

That's 855-212-4CBS. Brandon is here from Myrtle Beach. You're on the JR Sport Brief Show. What's up, Brandon? Hey, kind of a new listener, but I appreciate you having me on. As much as I hate to admit this guy, because I'm a diehard Clemson fan, but Steve Spurrier, Heisman Trophy winner and national champion as a coach.

Okay. I was thinking more along the professional ranks. I know he played, but he can't really play. His coaching career in the pros and his playing in the pros didn't really add up, but college-wise, he's one of the best.

Yeah, he is. Have you been to his restaurant slash museum in Gainesville? I have not. I haven't been to Gainesville at all, actually. But I did go to some of the games where he coached against Clemson. Yeah, if you ever go, he has a beautiful restaurant, and it's actually like a walk through his entire history.

I did a show live from there either last year or two years ago. It's a beautiful place. Good food, too. Yeah, what kind of food? American food. Just all types of food, man. But like southern food or more burger-type? Nah, this ain't no slimy, greasy spoon thing, Brandon, okay? What are you, a picky eater? You won't go?

What do you think this is? Nah, I'm not a picky eater, but I do appreciate good food. Listen, the place is sterling, okay?

He has a studio built in the middle of, it's like a museum. He's not serving, you know, fat burger, okay? Right, word. And I also want to tell you that an easy show to listen to at night while driving, like the last guy said. So, yeah, thank you for having me on.

And no doubt, Brandon. You drive safe, okay? Yeah, have a good night, guys. Hey, Chef, I never expected that question. I mean, it's a legitimate question. It's just like, hey, you can go to Steve Spurrier's restaurant. He's like, what type of food do they serve? I should have said Indian, right?

I don't know if Brandon would have believed that, though. I'd be like, hey, they serve, he serves Korean food. I mean, it's American food that he serves. I wouldn't expect him to serve Jamaican food. Is it southern food? No, it's, I mean, that was a legitimate question.

He's, it's American, man. What am I supposed to say? You get a steak and, I don't know. Go look at the menu.

It's called Spurrier's. 855-212-4CBS. Ron is here from San Diego. What's up, Ron? Hello?

Yes, you're live on the radio. How you doing? I'm doing great. First time, long time. Love you, JR. Shout out to Chef. So, when I was 14, the day after the Sonics won the championship, I was on an airplane going to L.A. to see my grandparents, and Stewart said, someone wants to meet you.

She takes me up, and there's Lenny Wilkins by himself. Yeah, wow. Where was this at? Where was this? Well, I was in Seattle, and he was heading to L.A. for some reason, I don't know, and he was sitting there with a briefcase next to him, and gestures me to sit down across from him and start asking me questions. He says, what did you think of the game? So, I'm like, I was kind of a little starstruck, 14, you know, most famous man on the planet, and I said, I love them, and he says, awesome. What's your favorite player?

Who's your favorite player? And I said, downtown Freddie Brown. And he's like, but his eyes were almost, he was so tired, his eyelids were just so, I had that moment with him. You calling him old or nice?

Which one is it? No, he was nice, he was very nice. He was just tired, you know, he was probably up all night after winning the world championship.

Right, right, right. So, he asked me to come up there and talk to him and ask me the questions, and the stewardess went, yeah, he's ready to fall asleep. So, I just wanted to share that story, and kind of one honorable mention to your six list is Bruce Bochy. Oh, what, where is he at right now? Is he still coaching right now?

Wasn't he? He got fired in Colorado, wasn't he? No, Bruce Bochy is a Texas Ranger coach right now, he won three championships, world championships with the Giants, yes sir. Oh yeah, well he just got hired, okay, well damn, he just got hired by the Rangers.

Shows you how much I'm watching them, not at all. The fairness, they've fallen on tough times, the Rangers. Well, they were hot, and then they fell apart, and then they decided to trade for that guy who can't even pitch anymore right now.

Right, right. Well, I'm unfortunately a Padres fan, so what are you going to do? Oh, well you'll spend a lot of money to have, what's his name with the big ears, Miguel, what's his name? Musgrove, Joe, no, no Joe with the big ears. No, what's the one that went from Baltimore, my brain is drawing a blank, he went from Baltimore, the shortstop turned through the basement. Oh, Manny, Manny Machado. Yeah, Manny Machado, they got all these stories out about how he's a jackass in the clubhouse and he's screwing everybody up. Yeah, that one, that was controversial, that could be, he's a team leader, he's just got some, he's going to be out for quite a while with surgery.

At least, at least he's not missing time due to ringworm complications from his drugs, okay? Okay, okay, got me there, yeah, we got, oh, Tatis and stuff, but yeah, we're, but as I try to tell people, we're a 10-year team and everybody one of them wins the World Series, but they're working some things out, but yeah, that's true. But anyway, I just love your show, you're awesome, and I'll never stop listening and I appreciate you taking my call. Absolutely, man, you be safe, okay?

Yeah, I just wanted to say though, yeah, St. Lenny Wilkins, number one, I had to call in. Thank you, thank you. All right, have a good night, sir. Thank you, you too, all right, peace. Yeah, my brain, my brain is drawing a blank, my throat is cooked, hey, shop, what do we got, I got time for one more, two more, maybe, one, probably, maybe?

I think at least one or two, if anyone can do two, it's you. Yeah, let's try, T.J. is calling from Pennsylvania, your CBS Sports Radio, go ahead, T.J., before I pass out. Copy that, hey, I just wanted to give a shout out to you guys, number one for you for the Agents of Reclusions podcast.

Thank you. And my pick, he is from a small town across from where I grew up, and his name is Ken Griffey, Sr. Ken Griffey? Coaching and managing where? Well, he managed, he coached with Seattle after he played. Oh, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, we talking about running the whole team or just being on the staff? No, no, he was like batting, because he wasn't, he wasn't a manager. Yeah, come on, come on, we don't want, I'm talking about running the team, I'm talking about Dabouse. about the balls okay yeah i was he's more yeah i mean his success is more as a player than it was coaching obviously come on yeah well that's that's what i'm talking about he managed single a say again he managed in single a oh that we can't more come on now yeah we can't put him in here we got we got joel torre and we got joel torre's jock but we can't put ken griffey's dad in here like this we can't do that i understand i was just you know giving a little credit to him that's all sir okay it's okay next time we want to talk about the best father-son combinations he'll make the list him and his son okay yes sir no problem you have a good night man no doubt thank you thank you yeah we couldn't put him more come on now i appreciate it it's nice to talk about a griffey hey chef now i really gotta shut up now don't i right yes yeah it's good because my voice is cooked it's done it's the jr sport brief show here with you on cbs sports radio shep said it i gotta leave now i gotta leave i gotta go i don't want to leave but i gotta go right now anyway i'll be back tomorrow 10 pm eastern 7 pacific you know what tomorrow is right it's thursday we got football coming up if you want to find me online i'm at jr sport brief if you missed a minute of the show hit rewind on the free odyssey app thank you to shep the giants are going to get smashed by the 49s tomorrow night we're going to talk about it find me everywhere at jr sport brief don't move amy lawrence coming up next y'all be safe thank you chef walk the dogs school drop-off meetings from 10 to 3 take kids to soccer then no time left for a jog when everyone else is relying on you it's easy to put your needs last federal help connects you with a licensed therapist online so you can show up for yourself the way you do for others visit betterhelp.com slash positive to get 10 off your first month that's better h-e-l-p.com slash positive facts are facts like how contributing to employees financial security makes them want to work harder for their company in fact according to a 2023 study by principle 87 of employers say that better employee financial security means employees are more engaged and productive at work the fact of the matter is that employees want to feel financially secure in their future so consider this principle helps you invest in your employees by providing customized benefits and retirement plans to help keep your employees more engaged and productive when you take care of your team they take care of business that's a fact learn how principal can help you find the right benefits and retirement plan for your team at principle.com slash benefits products and services offered by member companies of the principal financial group des moines iowa for important information visit principle.com slash disclosures i'm here to tell you about pom pom at home where comfort meets elegance pom pom at home is offering 20 off site wide for a limited time see why so many of the top designers use pom poms luxury easy care bedding they have created a timeless beautiful coastal living look that incorporates subtle tones and natural fibers offering a unique touch create your dream bed now get 20 off sheets duvets throws and more right now at pom pom at home.com easy to use easy to love luxury bedding just enter code pom pom at checkout can i get a refill please no one wants to get sidelined by covid 19 including me i've got my work my family i want to be able to keep my plans i'm getting this season's covid 19 shot it helps protect against covid 19 which can cause severe illness and hospitalization learn about eligibility and schedule your covid 19 shot on the cdc site vaccines.gov sponsored by pfizer and biontech oh look look who's here
