It's the JR Sport Brief show here with you on CBS Sports Radio. I'm coming to you live from Atlanta, Georgia. Shoutouts to you wherever you're living, wherever you're traveling to or from, wherever you're at. I thank you for tuning in. Thank you to super producer and host, Dave Sheppard.

He's holding it down in New York City. And thank you to you, most importantly, again, because there is no show without you. This is where I'll be for the next two hours. Two hours in the books, two more to go. Listen very, very carefully.

I don't think people do because I get asked this question quite a lot. Hey JR, how can I listen to every minute? Hey JR, I missed the first hour. Hey JR, my station doesn't play this part or this second. You got access to the Internet.

If you do, it's the free Audacy app, A-U-D-A-C-Y. You can go ahead and hit rewind. You can start the show from the beginning. Yeah, from the beginning at 10 Eastern, 7 Pacific, where we talked about Clemson losing to Duke. Where we talked about a lot of the blowouts that took place over the holiday weekend. As we talked about Florida State beating LSU, as we talked about Team USA Basketball. Oh yeah, they're playing. Yeah, early in the morning they're playing in the FIBA World Championship.

But they beat Italy early on Tuesday. We talked about Deion Sanders. Of course we talked about Deion Sanders. That's the biggest news in college sports, college football over the holiday weekend. And Colorado coming out on top over TCU 45 to 42. And so last hour we took a look at what Deion means to Colorado. Where he can go ahead and take the Buffaloes and then what the rest of the season would make. And then we'll see some even cooler scenarios about what might ultimately happen if the team continues to be competitive.

Or I should say continues to grow. Not just over this season but in the future. Could Deion Sanders be an NFL head coach? One of our callers brought up Jerry Jones. And we established that, I don't know, maybe there's not enough space for both of their egos or their personalities in the metroplex.

But it would be interesting nonetheless. And I reiterated that what we're seeing right now with Deion Sanders is very, very unique. I mean from being a Hall of Fame caliber player to being someone nicknamed Prime Time. They're now calling him Coach Prime.

It's centric and just he's a star in every sense of the word. And to go from playing in the NFL at the highest level, being one of the greatest football players of all time. Coaching high school, doing television, going from high school to then coaching an HBCU at Jackson State. Now moving on to coach Colorado, you would think at this point the sky might be the limit. And let's also keep in mind this hasn't gotten a lot of attention because why would it?

And hopefully it's not the case. He's also dealt with major health complications when it comes to clotting and potential amputation. Which makes everything that he's done and the success that he's been able to have even after one game. Or forget that, even being alive and going from Jackson State to Colorado, it's amazing what Deion Sanders has done. I'm real interested to see what he can continue on to do. I think he would be a few seasons away from the NFL or even having that shot or chance or opportunity.

And then it's a matter of fit. Jerry Jones is one hell of an example, but let's be real man. How many GMs would feel comfortable hiring a personality?

They're people that walk into a room and they're the boss. You know, to what team would Deion Sanders potentially go to where the GM is going to kind of, you know, put his hat or put his hat in the ring or say, hey, I'm going to I'm going to go ahead and and go for this dude. A little dangerous. Just a little bit.

A little risky. Deion is different. What he's done is different.

He doesn't take away from his accomplishments, but there's nothing conventional about it at all. Big personality. Huge, huge star. And so as we continue on with the show, yes, the phone lines are open.

If you want to give me a holler. That's eight five five two one two four CBS. That's eight five five two one two four CBS. We do know that.

And how about this? Damn it. If you're on the East Coast, it's Wednesday. The NFL season starts on Thursday.

You don't you don't got to wait too much longer. We're going to talk about this potential injury that might keep Travis Kelce out of the opener against the Lions. I don't know what the Arizona Cardinals are doing. Maybe they'll hire Deion Sanders to run the whole thing. I mean, they got a dude right now who's calling Kyler Murray the captain. It sounds like a pirate ship, but that's what the Cardinals are doing. And then we got a bunch of dudes who still haven't shown up for work. Nick Bosa, Chris Jones.

And so we have a whole lot more to do. But before we move on, since we're talking about stars. Chidor Sanders, who went out for his dad for Colorado, threw for a Colorado record 510 yards and four touchdowns. He showed love to Tom Brady, who text him after the victory. And then Tom Brady on his own show, Let's Go.

I think we can finally put this to bed. I'll let you hear this in a minute. Tom Brady is talking about looking at football in a different way before that. Let's listen to what Deion's son, Chidor, had to say about his communication with Tom Brady after the win versus TSU. Working with Tom, it was just talking to him and understanding, OK, how to improve each week. He texted me after the game.

Don't be satisfied. Like, it's cool. So it was cool hearing from him knowing he's still watching and stuff like that.

But just working with him, it really helped me just understand. Don't focus on the good things. We did that.

That's that's night and day. We're going to do that regardless. Focus on the bad things. Focus on the things that we wasn't able to do at a high level. So improve that.

Then you got a full armor everywhere. But if you just focus on the good, the things in the light, knowing, OK, Dylan had a lot of receiving yards, but it's OK, Dylan, on this one route, you got to you got to make this decision. So it's just really just like highlighting the bad things that we did and watching it over and over and over and giving us that bad feeling like we can't make that same mistake. Yeah, well, not not bad to take advice from Tom Brady, Dylan Edwards, one hundred and thirty five yards, receiving three touchdowns, Travis Hunter playing offense and defense, one hundred and nineteen yards in the air. That big interception at the end of the game. And so what's the focus next for Colorado?

Their next focus will be against Nebraska. I mentioned to you, Tom Brady with the eve or let's just say the beginning of the NFL season upon us, the start of the season upon us, the Lions and the Kansas City Chiefs taking each other on on this Thursday. Tom Brady is going again. His Let's Go podcast on Sirius XM.

And we heard from the focus of Chador Sanders. What is Tom Brady's focus on now that he is no longer playing? And if you're happy that there's new blood in the NFL and Tom Brady is gone, take a listen to Tom Brady. This is what he looking forward to. Now, I'm out there in the backyard throwing around last night. My daughter's got me kicking the soccer ball and really enjoying this new experience. And there's so much to life, you know, that that is here to live. And, you know, I was very blessed to play for as long as I did.

And I loved it. Now I get to see other guys do it. And I also get to see football from a different perspective. And, you know, I'll be on Fox next year. So I have a chance to really sit back and watch and and and learn a different a different career.

And, you know, I'll need a lot of help from a lot of different people. OK. If the guy who called a week or two ago is listening from Massachusetts, who swore up and down that Tom Brady was now going to come back and help the Patriots, if that guy is listening. Have you quit the idea yet? I'm sorry, Chef.

Jay, I should ask you a quick question when you're done. OK. Do you still think that that Tom Brady is going to just just walk out of bed and just leave the model and his kids? And yeah, he's dating a new model.

I don't know her name. You think Tom Brady is just going to wake up and all of a sudden now join the New England Patriots? Can can we let Tom Brady rest in peace? Can we watch him? I don't even know. I saw him in a commercial selling rental cars like let this man enjoy his new life. He doesn't look physically able to play football.

I'm not saying able, but he's smaller than what he was even from last year. Let him sit down and talk about the game like me and you. Go ahead, Chef, please. When he is literally old and gray, we can officially say Tom Brady will no longer play in the NFL. JR, you were around for this. You remember 98, 99, 2000, 2001. Who was not playing in the NBA that you might reference in the fourth and final hour? You know where I'm going with this.

The guy was out for three years. You can you can do you can you can do whatever you want. There's a couple of things I know a guarantee.

Yes. One day I'm going to be dead. That's the one thing I can guarantee a long time from now.

I don't know when it's going to be because I can't predict the future. I cannot predict with 100% certainty that Tom Brady is not going to come around and throw a football. I would not compare it to Michael Jordan playing basketball because the last time I checked, yeah, Michael Jordan took a year and change off to swing a bat. Michael Jordan also never got tackled into the chest by Karl Malone or Dikembe Mutombo. You know, he wasn't out there getting his ass whooped in a contact sport. There's a difference between stepping away from the NFL and the difference between stepping away from the NBA. Man, your body over time is used to in the best way that it possibly can because we're not built to get thrown around like rag dolls. But your body hardens up.

You have to get used to the punishment. And sure, yes, the man plays quarterback. Yes, he's a protected quarterback. Yes, quarterbacks are protected, but that's not going to make a hell of a beans when it's time to get hit.

Nobody wants to do that physically and mentally. And so as much as I could say so, I think Tom Brady is done. The more that he stays away from the game, there is no no no Michael Jordan. He is gone for three years and he decides to come back at 48 years old to play him. And even at that point in time, I don't know if an NFL team is going to say, oh my God, this dude's been gone for two or three years.

Now I want to throw him back into the mix. This isn't Michael Jordan with a post up game, old man strength and a turnaround jumper. I get that. I just think that come November and December when we saw 49ers team and literally drag out interest in Philip Rivers on kid number 10 and Philip Rivers is no Tom Brady. In the right situation, J.R., I get what you're saying about the kind of hits these guys have to take stand in the pocket, even though, like you said, a more favorable error than we've ever seen at any time in NFL history.

And nobody gets rid of the ball faster. Now, with all that being said, he can withstand a month and a half of football, a full season. I'll give you he's not coming back. But when the right coach calls with the right opportunity, I think he needs to be hard pressed to look at that Cowboys loss and say that's the final memory he wants to have in the NFL. I don't I think when you look at the totality of his career, I don't think he goes to sleep and summarizes his final memory.

I think he looks at the breadth of his career and looks at the fact that he's had more success than anybody in NFL history. I think he can rest on his laurels there based on everything he's done. I'm sure there's a a a dream scenario that might exist. And so if you want to put that at five and 10 percent, then knock yourself out.

I myself would look at this dude and say, hey, man, there's there's there's so much more to enjoy in life while you can still get up and walk without having your ass whooped. We'll see. We'll see.

There's no time at the same time. Also know he'd have to get rid of a lot of his his equity in the Raiders. Is he just going to be able to walk out of bed and say, I want to give this up and sell this just so I can play? I don't know, man.

It's a it's a different level of stress. It really is good for him. If he wants to be Brett Favre, then then so may it be eight, five, five, two, one, two, four. CBS is eight, five, five, two, one, two, four. CBS. Let's go to Ron. He's calling from South Carolina. You're on CBS Sports Radio. Hey, hello there, Jay. Ron, what's on your mind, man? You you clouded the water up when you start talking about Jerry Jones and Deon Sanders and the Cowboys. But after you clouded the water up, what I meant, it made my conversation even more interesting. The first thing I got to say is make sure you understand that I am a Dallas Cowboys fan and I am also a Deon Sanders fan. One thing that I got to give constructive criticism on both aspects of the conversation.

The first one is. In order to Deon Sanders to make it. The high caliber level. From experience. He won't need to.

Stay out of the chat room. And stay focused. As a coach.

In order to go down to the deep depth. Now, talking about Jerry Jones. Jerry Jones is an interesting character because. As much as he wants the Cowboys to win. To the higher level, he's in the way. All sounds like five corn, Leghorn.

Yes. He's going to have to understand. He's going to have to let his ego go and let a coach be a coach. As long as he's going to be a GM. Over the Dallas Cowboys and don't let the coach be a coach. My Cowboys will never be able to make it to this level that of expectation. Yeah, well, I don't think that will ever be the case, given the fact that that Jerry Jones is about to be 81 years old.

And thank you, Ron, for calling from South Carolina. He's he's in too deep, man. When is this dude ever going to wake up and say, I'm giving up the reins? It's not going to happen.

That that can also be wishful thinking. He has to let a coach be a coach. Look, Mike McCarthy is taking his money and he's going to take the money and hope Jerry Jones doesn't just give him the boot one day. And he probably will.

He probably will. Hung on to the last coach way too damn long. And Mike McCarthy is over here running around with Jerry Jones is saying, oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, sure. I got I got Dan Quinn here. Dan Quinn can take your job any day.

Like that sounds like a a nice work environment. Jerry Jones is putting together the the best scenario and situation for him to work in. Eight five five two one two four CBS. John is calling from Lincoln, Nebraska. You're on the JR sport brief show. JR, quick question for you. A couple of questions for you.

Give me give me your best. We got a lot of people. All right. Fair enough.

Really interested in this game coming up on Saturday. Of course, I'm a big red fan, but I hate to say this, but I'm absolutely impressed with Coach Prime, what he did to T.C.U. But do you think that T.C.U. was even that good? And I felt like the T.C.U. coach just called a terrible game.

And I just want everybody to remember. It's great to have a three or four or five stars, but there are a couple injuries away from not being any good again quickly. So I just I wanted your take. That is that we can say that for for any team you're referring to Colorado, right? Yeah. Yes. So, yeah, that that could be the case with any team. And then when it comes down to T.S.U., we talked about this a little bit at the beginning of last hour.

Yeah. Max Duggan ain't there. Quentin Johnston ain't there. We saw what took place in the national championship game. They got trounced.

Sure, they got in on merit. But the reality is, OK, they beat Michigan and got destroyed by Georgia. I mean, anybody with expectations that T.C.U. was going to go out there and all of a sudden go back to a national championship.

Yeah, man. Ain't nobody expecting too much out of them. People weren't expecting nothing out of them from last year. But that's not to take away at all. You know what they accomplished and that they they were good. I don't want to say they did a good litmus test for what Colorado did for a team that won one game last season and brought in almost 100 new players. Yeah, I think it counts for something. Hey, I totally agree with you.

I don't I don't think you're I think you're spot on there, but I think everybody needs to take a step back here. And I'm not saying Nebraska's. Hey, listen, I'm praying Nebraska just doesn't find a way to screw something up.

But I think we're getting way ahead of ourselves with Coach Prime here. I don't think T.C.U. was all that good. I thought their coach called a terrible game.

Now brought to Colorado the 21 point underdogs. They won. Well, I think I still think it's. Yeah, go ahead. No, I think in all honesty, I don't. People are looking at at at the good and the potential bad. So I don't think it's a pump the brakes. I think if you really take a lot of steps back and look at it, there are people who are going, oh, man, OK.

It was one game, which it was. And there are people who are seeing the optimism. It's probably going to fall somewhere in the middle. So I don't I don't think.

Do you have folks in a general sense who are overreacting both positively and negatively? So what took place? The answer is yes. But the answer is probably somewhere in the middle, I think, if you're being a little bit more objective. So the only thing that is going to tell there is this time.

And that's what we all have to wait and see how the rest of this season bears out. Eight, five, five, two, one, two, four CBS. That's eight, five, five, two, one, two, four CBS. I'm going to get some more of your calls on the other side of the break.

Now, man, this is crazy. I did mention Tom Brady has a piece of the Raiders. Tom Brady may have to flex a little bit of that influence because Chandler Jones of the Raiders decided to go on social media and trash the team. I'll get some more of your calls on the other side of the break.

I'll explain what this situation is about, because, of course, the Raiders are going to Raider. It's the JR Sport Brief show here on CBS Sports Radio. You're listening to the JR Sport Brief on CBS Sports Radio. Hey, JR, I appreciate you taking my call.

I just want to say that you got an awesome show, man, and I enjoy it very much when I'm out, moving about at night. Call in now at eight, five, five, two, one, two, four CBS. This portion of the show is brought to you by Wesley Financial. Stuck in a timeshare and want out?

Contact Wesley Financial Group now and get a free timeshare exit information kit at WesleyFinancialGroup.com. Tom Brady starting his seasonal show, Let's Go, and talking about how he is now looking at football from a different perspective. We also know that in the past he's worked with Deion Sanders' son, Shadore, and maybe a few of those tips have worked out for Shadore as he threw for a Colorado record 510 yards.

This past Saturday, his Colorado beat TCU 45 to 42. Tom Brady, something else keeping him busy right now, is the Raiders. We know that he is a part owner, a minority owner. He's not running around with a bunch of say-so. He's not the GM. He's not going out onto the sidelines to coach. He's not doing any of that, but he is a part of the Raiders.

He gets to see the train wreck from up close and personal, and so he can't fix everything. If you were privy to what went on the internet earlier today, and I'm going to get back to your calls momentarily, 855-212-4CBS, you can't have a Raider season without some type of dysfunction. The season hasn't even started. They haven't played the Broncos yet, and today, over the past 24 hours, Chandler Jones was active on social media. You might recall, the Raiders decided to give him a contract last spring, and so he played his first season with the Raiders, 15 games, 4.5 sacks, underwhelming given what you would expect from Chandler Jones. He went on social media, and he basically said, Josh McDaniels and the GM, Dave Ziegler, have basically said, hey, we don't want you at work. He put up these posts which he deleted and said, man, that the team is making him work out at a private gym, not allowing him access to the team's facility. He said that the team is trying to provoke him by keeping him out of the facility. He said that, man, eff it, I don't want to play for the Raiders if that's my head coach or GM, and then he deleted the messages. This is the Raiders, ladies and gentlemen. If you thought Jimmy Garoppolo was the biggest story, when is he going to get hurt, when do the Raiders fall apart, you can go ahead and just thank Chandler Jones. And the messages have been deleted, so that means he's OK now, right? Is that what that means?

I don't know. Anyway, the Raiders are going to Raider, and they're going to stink this year. 855-212-4CBS, that's 855-212-4CBS. Good luck to Jimmy Garoppolo, though. I hope he stays healthy.

I really do. What do we have here? Tom is calling from Pittsburgh. You're on CBS Sports Radio, the JR Sport Reef Show. Hey, JR. I just want to say, big fan. I'm a night owl, and I hear you all the time, and your show is just rocking. The reason I'm calling is, you know, Deion Sanders, prime time, he's blown up this college game.

I watched it Saturday, and probably wouldn't have watched a Colorado game at all. And those kids are quick and fast, and it was an exciting, exciting experiment. I'm just really happy for them. And, you know, the biggest problem I see for prime is not the team, it's not the players, it's not the coach, and it's his health. When he's limping around on the sideline, he needs some medical support to get that leg back in place.

And that's why I called up. Well, thank you, Tom. I had mentioned that, and yeah, there were times throughout the last game he had to take a seat and sit down. He's no longer rolling around on the scooter.

Let's be honest here. It's not like the condition is going to improve. I mean, he's dealt with the clots, he's had some surgeries to relieve the clots, he's had some toes amputated. They've unfortunately talked about it, ultimately at one point amputating his foot if the condition didn't work. What's to get better?

No, this is the deal. When you're in pain, your mental faculties, they decrease, they don't increase. And the reason I'm calling is, you know, like our name, I gave it to your assistant, but we can actually help him on some of the medical side. This is some newer therapy.

But I, you know, I just feel so bad when I see him limping around, and he could get some help. It's just... Okay, well, what are you trying to... You selling something? You selling something? I tell you where I'm at, JR. Okay, I'm a Carnegie Mellon University scientist, African American, and we've developed this patented oxygenated water device that increases your red blood cells. Okay, well, Tom, you need to call Colorado.

Yeah, but I've tried to do that. And if you kick me back out and your guy can take my name, and then we'll just leave it at that. But I will tell you this, exciting, exciting, exciting. Those kids play their behinds off.

And I've really enjoyed the speed. They're quick, JR. Yeah, yeah, that's what happens when you're young. Yeah, Tom. So JR and Tom. So JR, you already know this type of thing. Tom, go to Colorado's website. They have the information of the sports information director. They have the information of the athletic director.

JR's show might be a difficult conduit for that. So if you want to skip the middleman, just go directly to the school's website. Tom, Tom, hold on, Chef. You don't need to be, you want to be nice about this. Tom, you ain't giving me no money and I ain't calling Colorado on your behalf. Go find them.

They're not hard to find. Okay, all right. Well, I tell you this, when I was, I was ready to go to bed. When I heard this, I stayed up and you guys took my call. So I'm smiling. I'm going to bed happy tonight, okay?

Hey, hey, not the first time I heard that. Thank you, Tom. You have a good night, okay? You too, bye bye. All right, thank you, Tom, for calling from Pittsburgh. That's good. Yeah, come on. Thank you.

You're such a nice guy, Chef, and I'm a jerk. But yeah, like, that's nice. I care about, listen, I want everybody to be healthy. But I mean, what do you want me to do? I'm going to call in Colorado to say, hey, one of my callers has a mechanism to increase your red blood cell count. Hey, my back hurts right now, okay? Help my back.

Help me out first. No, that's not well and good. But when Tom said, hey, I feel a lot better when I go to bed tonight. And then you said, that's not the first time I heard that.

That was gold. Yeah, good. Somebody will email me and say, hey, JR, you're disgusting, which is fine by me too. That's cool.

8552 is true. 8552124CBS, Kevin is here from Louisville. What's up, Kevin? What's going on, JR? How are you? I'm doing well, my friend. How are you and Dave doing? We're good. Football is back. It is. Thank God. You didn't like summertime, huh? No. Well, I had a vacation.

I'm getting ready to go on a vacation, so I'll be gone for a minute. But anyway, let's put that plug into Cocoa Golf. Oh, Cocoa. Yes, Cocoa. Yes. No, hold on.

Second teenager, I think, that won a, get to the Final Four other than Serena. Correct. We have props to Cocoa. Yeah. Yeah, great. Well, we got football coming up. Golly, it's crazy, JR. You know what? You and Shep, you are a comedy.

Both of you are. But I don't know. I'll take Deion on my 49ers in a heartbeat because he won a Super Bowl there. You know, Jerry? You want Deion Sanders to coach the Niners over Shanahan? Well, I don't know. We need a quarterback, first of all.

You don't like Purdy? I mean, what else do you want from the guy? Well, we'll see.

We pay your Pittsburgh Steelers week one. We will see what happens there and then go from there. According to what I'm hearing in the camp, he's not been very good. I don't know.

They've had him on a quote-unquote pitch count to keep him healthy. I know. I know that, JR. And we'll figure it out.

I think the Niners will be okay. Where are you more about when Nick Boles is going to show up to work, okay? Yeah, get his contract.

He needs a contract, you know. Alright, JR. Have a good night. I love you guys. Take care. Thank you, Kevin.

Always a pleasure. Shout-outs to Kevin from Louisville. Hey, he mentioned Koko Goff moving on into a semi-final. She'll be in action tomorrow.

Big deal. Koko Goff continuing to grow and get older. Beat Ostapenko yesterday.

She is on her way. And she, Koko Goff, she talked about being older and her maturity and I remember her bursting onto the scene and getting into the public conscious a few years ago. Very likable. 19 years old. The first American to reach the semi-finals since Serena. First American teenager, excuse me, to reach the semi-finals since Serena Williams did it in 2001.

This is what Koko Goff had to say about her maturing and not just age, but her game. I think it's just putting my life into perspective. I mean, at first I used to think negative things like, why is this so much pressure?

Why is this so hard? Blah, blah, blah. And I realize that this isn't like in a way is pressure, but it's not. I mean, there's people struggling to feed their families. There's people who don't know when their next meal is going to come from.

There's people who have to pay their bills. And that's real pressure. That's real hardship. That's real life. And this, I'm in a very privileged position.

I'm getting paid to do what I love and getting support to do what I love. And that's something that I don't take for granted. So really, I just put my life into perspective, especially in New York. I just feel like you see that perspective a lot more, especially compared to where I live.

Oh man, let me tell you something. 19 years old for her to say that, I say this all the time, all the time. Whether people want to hear it or believe it or not, one of the best teachers in life is being able to pick up and have different perspectives, being able to experience different things and be around different people. Perspective is one of the greatest teachers that anyone can ever have in life.

And if you can have a perspective and be able to just understand what's going on, instead of looking at things in a narrow way, it's such a beautiful teacher. So to hear her say that at 19 years old and have that understanding, it's something that a lot of people don't get at any point in their life. So good on Coco Gauff. There's a lot coming her way at 19 years old. It'd be a beautiful thing to see her walk away and win this U.S. Open, but she is continuing to climb, continuing to grow as a teen.

And she hasn't even fully matured, not even physically and certainly not even in the game. So good on her for advancing into the semifinal. 8 5 5 2 1 2 4 CBS. That's 8 5 5 2 1 2 4 CBS. Kevin just mentioned those 49ers and we're going to get into some of these guys who have yet to show up for work.

Somehow, someway, Kyler Murray was named a captain of the Cardinals to show you where that organization is. I'm going to get some more of your calls on the other side of this break and we'll talk about some of this other crap going on in the NFL like Kyler Murray. It's the JR Sport Reshow on CBS Sports Radio. You're listening to the JR Sport Brief on CBS Sports Radio.

First of all, I just want to say I've been listening to your show for the last few months and I really enjoyed listening to you speak, so thanks for taking my call. Call in now at 8 5 5 2 1 2 4 CBS. It's the JR Sport Brief Show here with you on CBS Sports Radio.

8 5 5 2 1 2 4 CBS. We all know that the college football season is underway. On Thursday, we have the start of the NFL regular season as the Lions take on the Kansas City Chiefs. And unfortunately, we have some players who have a either not shown up for work at all because they want some money and then we knew this was going to be inevitable. We got some dudes who have gone down due to injury already here before we have even played a game.

So here's the deal. I'm sure by now you've probably heard earlier today that Travis Kelce hyper extended his knee in practice. And at this point, he is day to day ahead of the head of the game on Thursday night against the Lions. You want to know who spoke about this?

Well, the only man you would probably expect to talk about this. It's Andy Reid. He did tell everybody Travis Kelce is hurt and he don't know what the hell is going to go on Thursday.

Listen to this. As far as injuries go, Kelce hyper extended his knee today. So we'll just see how he does going forward. Good day of practice for this challenge of playing the Lions.

They got a good football team and our guys have had a good week of prep and we're looking forward, like I said, to the challenge of playing a good football team. Is there any idea of Kelce's status? No. No.

They're just, they're looking at it now. So I just, you know, just see how it goes. Do you expect all those injured guys on your list? I'll tell you what with the injuries. I'll give them to you tomorrow or game day. And I can't say everybody's good to go.

You'll see the acts when we get there. Well, damn, it sounds like Andy Reid, is he going to be available for the game? Like he had the run up to the podium. Poor guy. 855-212-4CBS.

That's 855-212-4CBS. I wouldn't be surprised if Travis Kelce decided to give it, decided to give it a go. If we saw him for a few snaps, it's the beginning of the season. I think he'll try to go. And I know it's a long season. They're trying to win another championship. And he is getting older. But I think he's going to try to give it a go this upcoming Thursday. What do I know?

We'll see. 855-212-4CBS. That's 855-212-4CBS. Kareem is here from Cali. You're on the JR Sport Brief Show. What's up, JR? Thanks for taking the call.

Sure. So yeah, man, you know, I think Kelce will give it a go, as you said. The Lions is my sleeper. I think the Lions are going to be a formidable opponent in the NFC North. We know what they did last year in Green Bay, stopping them from getting into the playoffs. And you know that coach is a hell of a coach.

That team has run through a wall for him. So I like Detroit to probably come out the North this year. Yeah, I don't think anybody would be shocked about that. Minnesota will probably still put up a million points and disappoint. We have no idea what Chicago is going to do, but we would expect or think Justin Fields can take a few steps forward. And then the Green Bay Packers would love. They're also a mixed bag. You don't know what you're going to get.

Exactly, exactly. Now getting to my point I wanted to make about the Niners. You know, this is going to be a tough game regardless if you got both of them or not. You know, Tomlin always got his guys ready. TJ Watt coming off a great year, you know, if that guy can stay healthy.

That was the thing with him and his brother JJ, you know what I'm saying, just staying healthy, staying on the field. But I'm a Niners fan, but I actually, you know, took Pittsburgh money line when I made my little parlay over the weekend in Reno. I think this is going to be a tough situation for the Niners to go into Pittsburgh. Time zone difference, early start, you know, I think Pittsburgh wins that game. I think the Niners, as you said before the break, will be okay. I like where Purdy is. I'm not going to touch on the Trey thing because that was a couple weeks ago and, you know, I was disappointed in that.

I just didn't think that gave him time to really develop. But overall, man, I'm looking forward to the season. I think the Niners, Philly, and Dallas is the three teams that look out to come out in the NFC. And I think my Niners man got a good shot to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl and I want my homies back. I want my homies back.

I got to get that 2019 rematch. Well, they've been there. Thank you, Kareem, for calling from Cali. They've been there. They've been knocking on the door. They've been to the Super Bowl. They just have to get over the hump.

I mean, it would have been nice to see seen a competitive game between them and Philadelphia. But we know Hassan Reddick helped stop that when he ran into Purdy's arm and Purdy basically had his season and the Niners season go down the toilet. And now you have to think about, OK, well, when and where is Nick Bosa going to show up? He wants that Aaron Donald money. He ain't trying to jump in front of T.J. Watt and figure out what he gets. He wants to jump in front of Aaron Donald's thirty one and a half million dollars in salary. Is Nick Bosa worth that?

Where's the where's the line stop? It's one thing to be the highest defender in the league, flattened period. It's another thing to say, oh, man, now we're going to pay you so much more than Aaron Donald. I do believe the 49ers will be perfectly fine.

They have so much talent on the team. I know one thing nobody wants to see, though, and if he can go out there and carry the load. Sam Donald, nobody. I don't care what he's done in preseason. I don't care who he beat out and who they traded away. There's not a Niners fan who wants to see Sam Donald throw a football.

Nobody. It's the J.R. Sportbrief show here with you on CBS Sports Radio. We're going to get ready to take a break when we come back.

Believe this. Nick Bosa isn't the only dude who has not shown up for work. Where's the other guy who plays for the Chiefs? Yeah, Kelsey might be hurt. Where's Chris Jones? We're going to talk about him. I'm going to get to your calls immediately. And then I got to talk about a team that that ain't going to be competing for nothing. The Arizona Cardinals, they named somebody a captain.

He ain't even playing. Facts are facts, like how contributing to employees financial security makes them want to work harder for their company.
